This is to explain about my fic. I recommend reading it first:

Because I put several Easter eggs, references, and other things you may didn't notice on the first reading.

I try to be careful here, with how/what I write - especially as I'm speaking about religious and culture I'm not a part of. Also, please consider that I don't speak Spanish and that English is a second language for me.

However, I tried to learn and educate myself. I tried looking for mexican writers, and looking more for what PEOPLE said, instead of researchers.

If I wronged anything, please let me know! I'm open to fixing and learning.

More detailed:

2. "As Señora de la Noche ("Lady of the Night"), she is often invoked by those exposed to the dangers of working at night, such as taxi drivers, bar owners, police, soldiers, and prostitutes. As such, devotees believe she can protect against assaults, accidents, gun violence, and all types of violent death."...

"Santa Muerte also has a saint's day, which varies from shrine to shrine. The most prominent is November 1... Others celebrate her day on August 15."

Another reason I focused on Santa Muerta was her being very important to the "lower classes". It works well with the way I see this universe and Urban fantasy. It actually got so long, I had to make it into a whole post.

3. "Catrina" is a version of 'Katherine' - that also means pure, unsullied. I HC her as an immigrant, and therefore wasn't probably originally called "Katherine" - but started using it in USA, as she try to 'blend in', or just as a preferred "mistaken name".

4. Shakespeare quote!

5. Abchanchu - "a legendary Bolivian vampire who shapeshifts into the form of a helpless, elderly traveler. When a passerby offers to help him, Abchanchu victimizes him and drinks his blood" (wiki)

6. la Llorona - ("The Weeping Woman" or "The Wailer") is a Mexican mythical vengeful ghost who is said to roam near bodies of water mourning her children whom she drowned because they had no food.

7. wak-wak - "a vampiric, bird-like creature in Philippine mythology. It is said to snatch humans at night as prey".

Honestly? The moment I read about it, I was like - "yea, it's perfect for the worldbuilding". Why wouldn't people believe Batman is a wakwak? We have here the vampire features (bat), but also birdy, "snatch humans at night", cryptid.

(Another bonus? Remind me of the word "Witwat". If you read my fic "Witwat and the Jin" you understand why I associate it with Batman)

8. Camazotz - In the Late Post-Classic Maya mythology of the Popol Vuh, Camazotz is a bat spirit at the service of the lords of the underworld. Camazotz means "death bat" in the Kʼicheʼ language. In Mesoamerica generally, the bat is often associated with night, death, and sacrifice.

Do I have to explain?

*8. "getting his head turned to a basketball" - there's a story where the Maya hero-twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque go to the underworld. They have to stay for the night in 'the house of bats' and hide themselves inside their weapons. Hunahpu stuck his head out to see if it's day, and one of the bats snatch his head and hang it as a ball for the gods to play with.

(I hope I'm not too wrong here).

So, 1- kids like disgusting things. 2 - think about Kid!Jason, who grew up with this story in his head, being taken away by The Bat to HIS HOUSE. (He was probably terrified af).

9. "Say hi to the big guy for me" - a quote from the Joker. I built a tiny parallel here - it's the last thing he here before he dies (Joker) and before he re-lives (His mom).

10. I sort of use it as an anthropomorphism - I don't go into religion here. I see it as - faith and beliefs and community can turn into something. I see it as one face of Death, but also different. idk. I hope it's understandable.

11. Jason died on April 26/7th. He comes back to life on October 31/November 1st - AKA Día de los Muertos. But, as I understand, Mexican tradition has 2 days - November 1st honors the souls of children (día de los angelitos), and November 2nd remembers the souls of adults.

So - Jason, on the edge of adulthood, comes back to life on the day of the angels, but crawls out of his grave on the day of the adults.

HAPPY 15-16 OF SEPTEMBER [Tales of Arcadia]

A little One-Shot ot the team celebrating a "Noche mexicana" on the Nuñes home.

It was an important day.

It was a very important day.

Even if the calendar didn't market it as one, at least for Claire and the Nuñez family, it was.

And the occasion was nothing less than the 15 & 16 de Septiembre. The date that remembered the independence day of Mexico, their cultural root home, and the origin of their latino offspring.

So, as they used to each year, the Nuñez Family organized a "Noche Mexicana", as they liked to say. That was nothing more than using a fancy Mexican term to say that they were going to trow a small -really big- party, with enchiladas, chiles rellenos, tacos, nachos, and montados, to celebrate the independence day.

Claire took advantage of the situation as an excuse to invite all the team to her home, and pass the night between drinks and laughs with everyone, as the really big family they were.

In the beginning, Aja and Krel were not very convinced at all, they were still struggling with all those "cultural earth traditions", but after a really romantic Steve asking his queen to go with him, Aja accepted exited. She would finally have another opportunity to have more "earth dates" with her Steve. Krel, on the other hand, was a little harder to impress, the "Guacamole" and other traditional stuff didn't steal his attention as Claire thought. Fortunately, Douxie helped convinced him, after saying that they could have a "guitar lesson" during the Noche Mexicana.

The idea didn't upset him, so he agreed.

Toby tried to maintain Jim's mouth close because the trollhunter was very excited, and he didn't stop to speak Spanish, with his horrible accent, and quotes off of context. It was annoying, but dam, Claire loves him too much.

The party began around that of 9 p.m.

Humans and Trolls coexisted happily on the Nuñes Home, even NotEnrique helped his "NotDad" to create cocteles on the bar, while the human prepared Piñas Coladas, Clamatos and Aguas-Locas-con-Tequila, the little changeling was creating his own cocteles for his fella trolls. Everyone in there was wearing a sarape, a poncho, or at least a Sobrero de mariachi, just to stay in "roll".

Even Nana danced a good part of the night with Varvatos, at the sound of the mariachis and las valadas.

Douxie joined the group of mariachis with his own guitar, to everyone's surprise, the songs sounded really good, combining the mariachi theme with rock. Something that no one expected at all. The main singer of the group was happy to see that there was more musician spirit around them, and the two other guitarists adjusted some space for the wizard to join his -now trio- of members, behind the singer.

The trollhunters team enjoyed the music, at least for a couple of songs more, until Jim started to signing. The human theft the singer position with a rose in hand, and looked at Claire with all the love of his heart, at the beat of "La Llorona". With a sweet tone, and his really marked accent, he stared so sing:

"Todos me dicen el negro, llorona. Negro, pero cariñoso-"

Was Jim-? Yes, he was doing a serenata.

A "Serenata" consists of a musical composition sung outdoors, normally a boy in love hires a group of mariachis, to sing outside the house of the girl he loves, as a form to please or praise her.

And he wasn't doing it badly at all.

Claire put her hands over her mouth in surprise and felt her cheeks burn out when Jim offered her the rose.

"Yo soy como el chile verde, Llorona. Picante, pero sabroso..." Jim took her hand. "La pena y la que no es pena, llorona. Todo es pena para mi-" They stared to dance.

Steve rested his head over Aja's shoulder. And Douxie slowly backed away from the love birds to Claire's mom without stopping playing.

"Does he-?" The wizard whispered.

"Nop. He doesn't know the meaning of the song". Douxie nodded with a small and holder a laugh before returning to his place.

"Cuando la vi pasar, hermoso huipil llevabas, llorona. Que la virgen te creí- Ay de mi llorona-!"

Douxie helped with the cores as the rest of the mariachis. "Ay de mi, llorona" They all said.

Slow and sweet steps were the ones of their vals, with their hands together and their bodies against each other, Jim spun her, and when the song finally ended, he planted a little kiss on her lips.

The little and beautiful interpretation of Jim left the bar open to others to sing with the musical group, so the serenata turned into some kind of karaoke. Krel -Diego Luna- was the next one on the file, with the theme of "The Apolgy Song". Steve and Eli sang "Tequila" -while the Mariachis singed the actual rest of the song-. Toby elected a more basic one: "La cucaracha". Claire rolled her eyes by their elections.

And when Douxie's turn finally came, there was quiet.

The wizard took a second to think, before taking a deep breath and scream from the top of his lungs the best Mariachi-scream that Mr. Nuñes had heard on years.

Then Hisirdoux started passing his fingers over the spellcaster, moving the strings according to a couple of chords that Mr. & Ms. Nuñez instantly recognized.

The Mariachis began to keep up with the boy.

"Un par de ojitos negros-" Hisirdoux began. Claire opened her mouth, not because of how well he sang, but because he was doing it in her mother tongue. When the fuzzbucket had Douxie learned Spanish?

When the core of the song started, it was a matter of seconds before everyone started signing with him, in group the well-known lyrics of "Cielito Lindo".

"Ay- Ay- Ay- Ay- Canta y no llores. Porque cantando see algran Cielito Lindo, los corazones".

They hugged each other and keep singing. Some of them, with their harmonical voices, others -As Jim, Steve, Blinky, Aaaarghhh & Toby- just screaming on the top of their lungs with all the happiness that tequila had given them.

At that moment, Claire felt lucky. Because she had the opportunity to spend nights like that with her family and friends.

And she wouldn't trade that moment for anything.

Reviewing an old post that never got published. This was back in June 2017 and, for whatever reason, I guess life got in the middle and stopped me from writing.

This is what I wrote…and it feels so relevant right now after #blackouttuesday and #blacklivesmatter

Best day of the week arrives (Friday) and, somehow, I know that I definitely want to watch the latest documentary about Whitney Huston (the 1st of many), “Can I be me?” – apparently one of her favourite quotes ever. What I don’t know it’s how the hell I managed to choose Baywatch out of the other choices available to watch??? Since late April (2017), I’ve come up with this double bill Friday evenings. It something I really look forward to during the week. But, Baywatch? C’mon!!! I will explain later…

I learnt about Whitney Houston thanks to my dad, cause he has always been very passionate about music in general. All kinds and genres, international and national. So I find quite admirable the fact that he doesn’t speak a word of English, but he can still appreciate the music. Her album debut still sits in my dad’s vinyl collection and every time I go back home I play it in the old record player.

I knew it would be a difficult story to tell and very emotional (pretty similar to Amy Winehouse’s). My personal admiration for Whitney began one night watching a music awards ceremony around 1987. Back then (even though I was only 8 years old), the biggest star was Madonna. She had everything, success and a role model for any girl in the late 80’s. How gobsmacked I was left when Whitney’s name came out crowning her as the favourite pop/rock female artist of that year. But all I was thinking was: “Who the hell was Whitney Houston?”

Unfortunately, all she wanted was to be herself and no one allowed that. She was an artificial marketing product directed to white and richer audiences. She was made a pop artist to separate her from the black community. In other words, less R&B and less of her roots (she was a gospel singer at heart). The documentary explored avenues that I din’t know existed. First of them, racism. She was never accepted by her own people, never black enough and she was blamed for singing to white audiences.

Then, the family issues kicked in. Her mother was jealous of her own daughter and directed her career pretending it was her own. So, in a way, sabotaging her. Religion and God also had a special place in her life, that her mother used to keep her under control. I almost fell off my seat when they talked about the rumours of Whitney being gay/bisexual, cause after 2 years after her debut she wasn’t dating a guy. Funny enough that one of her earlier songs was “I wanna dance with somebody”. It pretty much looks like a desperate chant to a future lover. She wanted to be loved. And she was, apparently by her personal assistant and best friend Robyn Crawford.

Funny coincidence that her mother twisted this and tried to bring God into this, because she was a disappointment to God and bla, bla, bla. At the end, she met her worse nightmare and worse influence, in Bobby Brown. The bad boy of the R&B music. He drunk and she did drugs. On top of things, they were competitive, so they sped up each other into a destructive spiral. In 1999, after over 10 years of a three way between her best friend and husband, Robyn left and Whitney just went deeper and deeper into a depression where she would live until the day she died.

I remember coming out of the cinema completely destroyed and in tears. How awful to destroy someone so talented. She would go into rehab and her family became demanding ’cause the whole clan depended on her income. Never allowed her to be happy and always pushing her towards destruction and loneliness. Talented people make the saddest stories in show business. Foreseen this, that’s why I chose Baywatch and it was effective, I won’t even mention anything about this film other than it made the 90’s TV series SO much better than I remember it was.

Revisando un blog que nunca llegué a publicar. Me remonto a junio de 2017 y, por algún motivo, supongo que la vida, que se metió en medio y dejé de escribir. Es irónico que la temática de este artículo tenga tanta relevancia a día de hoy… justo después del #blackouttuesday y #blacklivesmatter tras el asesinato de George Floyd.

Llega el mejor día de la semana (viernes) y, de alguna manera, sé que quiero ver el último documental sobre Whitney Huston (el primero de muchos que luego vendrían), “¿Puedo ser yo?” – Al parecer, una de sus citas favoritas. Lo que no sé es cómo demonios logré elegir “Los vigilantes de la playa” entre las otras películas disponibles. Desde finales de abril (2017), he puesto en práctica lo de ir al cine los viernes y ver dos pelis del tirón. Hace que merezca la pena trabajar y que llegue el viernes. En serio, ¿en qué demonios estaba pensado?… ¿”Los vigilantes de la playa”? No me podéis ver, pero me estoy tirando de los pelos ahora mismo…

Conocí a Whitney Houston gracias a mi padre, porque siempre le ha encantado la música en general. De todo tipo y género, nacional e international, hasta música clásica. Así que encuentro admirable el hecho de que él, que no habla ni una palabra de inglés, aún pueda apreciar la música y el significado de una canción. El álbum con el que Whitney debutó sigue estando entre los vinilos que aún conserva mi padre y, siempre que voy a casa, lo pongo en el tocadiscos. Es como una tradición.

Sabía que sería una historia difícil de contar y muy emotiva (muy parecida a la de Amy Winehouse). Mi admiración personal por Whitney comenzó una noche viendo una ceremonia de entrega de premios de música alrededor de 1987. Por aquel entonces (aunque solo tenía 8 años), la estrella más grande era Madonna. Tenía todo, éxito y un modelo a seguir para cualquier chica a finales de los 80. Aún recuerdo lo fascinada que me quedé cuando en vez de Madonna anunciaron el nombre de Whitney, que la coronaba como la artista femenina favorita de pop / rock de ese año. Yo lo único que podía pensar era: “¿Quién demonios era Whitney Houston?”

Lamentablemente, lo único que ella quería era ser ella misma y parece que nadie se lo permitía. Era un producto de marketing artificial dirigido a una audiencia blanca y con poder adquisitivo. La convirtieron en una artista pop para separarla de la comunidad negra. En resumidas cuentas, menos R&B y mucha menos conexión con sus raíces (ella era cantante de gospel). La verdad es que me enteré de muchas cosas de las que no tenía ni idea. Lo primero, el racismo que sufrió. Nunca fue aceptada por su propia gente, nunca fue lo suficientemente negra y se la culpó por cantar al público blanco.

Luego, surgieron los problemas familiares. Su madre estaba celosa de su propia hija y dirigió su carrera como si fuera la suya propia. En cierto modo, saboteándola. La religión y Dios también tuvieron un lugar especial en la vida de Whitney, que su madre supo explotar para mantenerla bajo control. Casi me caigo de culo, cuando hablaron de los rumores que hubo sobre si Whitney era gay/bisexual porque 2 años después de su debut, no tuviera novio. Luego lo piensas y, que una de sus canciones más conocidas “I wanna dance with somebody”; parece un canto despesperado a un amante imaginario. En fin, que ella quería que la quisieran. Parece que alguien estaba enamorada de ella en secreto y ese alguien era su asistente personal y mejor amiga Robyn Crawford. Esto contribuyó a avivar los rumores sobre su supuesta bisexualidad. Yo seguía sin dar crédito.

Es curioso cómo su madre se las arregló para meter a Dios en todo esto y culparla de ser una decepción para Dios. Al final, conoció a su peor pesadilla e influencia, Bobby Brown. El chico malo de la música R&B. Él bebía y ella consumía drogas. Además, también eran competitivos entre ellos, por lo que acabaron arrastrándose y metiéndose en una espiral destructiva. En 1999, después de más de 10 años de una relación tripartita entre su mejor amiga y esposo, Robyn se fue y Whitney se hundió más y más en una depresión de donde no saldría hasta el día de su muerte.

Recuerdo haber salido del cine completamente destrozada y a lágrima viva. Qué horrible destruir a alguien con tanto talento. Intentó rehabilitarse, pero su familia se volvió exigente porque todo el clan dependía de sus ingresos. Nunca le permitieron ser feliz y siempre acababa volviendo a las drogas y cada vez más sola. Las personas con más talento siempre son las más tristes del panorama musical. Sabiendo cómo iba a acabar, por eso elegí Baywatch, para cnoseguir encefalograma plano. Y, creedme, fue tan efectivo, que, ni siquiera mencionaré nada sobre esta película, aparte de que hizo que la serie de televisión de los 90 fuera mucho mejor de lo que la

recuerdo.

1. TV MOVIE

The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 1930s. Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional MOVIE). A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Todas las diversas formas de idolatría moderna tienen una cosa en su núcleo: uno mismo. La mayoría de la gente ya no se arrodilla ante ídolos e imágenes. En cambio nosotros adoramos ante el altar del dios de uno mismo. Esta marca de idolatría moderna toma diversas formas.En primer lugar, adoramos en el altar del materialismo, que alimenta nuestra necesidad de aumentar nuestro ego a través de la adquisición de más "cosas". Nuestros hogares están llenos de toda clase de bienes. Construimos casas más y más grandes con más armarios y espacio de almacenamiento para guardar todas las cosas que compramos, muchas de las cuales incluso no hemos pagado aún. La mayoría de nuestras cosas tiene "obsolescencia programada" inherente en ellas, por lo que son inútiles en poco tiempo, y así las entregamos al garaje u otro espacio de almacenamiento. En ese momento, Él destruirá todo lo que ha hecho y creará un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva. "Pero el día del Señor vendrá como un ladrón. En aquel día los cielos desaparecerán con un estruendo espantoso, los elementos serán destruidos por el fuego, y la tierra, con todo lo que hay en ella, será quemada. Ya que todo será destruido de esa manera, ¿no deberían vivir ustedes como Dios manda, siguiendo una conducta intachable y esperando ansiosamente la venida del día de Dios? Sólo Él merece ser adorado.Finalmente y tal vez más destructivo, adoramos en el altar del auto-agrandamiento o la realización de uno mismo a la exclusión de todos los demás y sus necesidades y deseos. Esto se manifiesta en la auto indulgencia a través de alimentos, drogas y alcohol. Los países ricos tienen acceso ilimitado a alcohol, drogas (el consumo de drogas de prescripción está en un nivel más alto, incluso entre los niños) y alimentos. Esto conduce a la obesidad, la diabetes y otros problemas. El autocontrol que tan desesperadamente necesitamos es despreciado en nuestro insaciable deseo de comer, beber y medicar más y más. Nos resistimos a cualquier esfuerzo para frenar el apetito, y estamos decididos a ser el dios de nuestras vidas. Si queremos escapar de la idolatría moderna, tenemos que admitir que es rampante y rechazarla en todas sus formas. Es no de Dios sino de Satanás. La mentira de que el amor de uno mismo traerá realización es el mismo que Satanás ha estado diciendo desde primero mintió a Adán y Eva. Tristemente, todavía estamos cayendo por ella. Incluso más tristemente, muchas iglesias están propagándolo en la predicación del Evangelio de la salud, riqueza y prosperidad basado en el ídolo de la autoestima. Pero nunca encontraremos felicidad centrados en nosotros mismos. Nuestros corazones y mentes deben estar centrados en Dios y en otros. “On The Way to a Smile” Official Translations So Far

Since the English translation of the “On The Way to a Smile” novel is about to come out in a two weeks (October 30th), I decided to make a compilation of how LTD significant quotes have been translated in the official French and German and old English versions. This is a pretty large post so it’s going under a read more...

I’m writing this because I know that when the English version drops, no matter what it says, people will be scattering all over the place to see if a certain word, phrase, or sentence was translated the same in the other official versions. To save myself the stress, I just decided to compile all of the LTD quotes now ahead of time.

I own the original English version of the novels and the Japanese of the revised OTWTAS series. I do not own the French or German, so I need help. If you can provide information on either, please include the full quote and a picture of the page (to prove to others).

Now let’s check out all of the official versions.

***Regarding Cloud’s bedroom***

The Japanese version shows the following:

JAPANESE: (with my translation in parenthesis)

「付き合おうか」話したいことがあった。 (“Can I join you” There was something she wanted to talk about.)

「ひとりで飲みたい」(”I want to drink alone”)

クラウドのその答えにティファは自制心をなくして言ってしまった。(Tifa lost control hearing Cloud’s answer and said,)

「だったら部屋で飲んでよ」(”If that’s so, then drink in your room”; literally: “If that’s so, drink in room.”)

There is no possessive pronoun (e.g. “your”, “our”) in Tifa’s reply, but since Tifa is losing control and getting mad that Cloud turned her down, it wouldn’t make sense for Tifa to tell Cloud to go drink in “their” room. So Tifa is telling Cloud to get out of her face and go somewhere she won’t see him, i.e. his separate bedroom (which he pays for).

That said, the official translations published by Square Enix say the following:

ENGLISH (2005, pg. 67)

“Mind if I join you?” She had things to say. “I wanna drink alone.” Cloud’s response robbed Tifa of her better sense, and the words abruptly came out: “Then drink in YOUR room.”

GERMAN (2011, pg. 76 ):

"Ach ja? Dann geh doch auf dein Zimmer und trink dort weiter!"

= “Oh, really? Then go to YOUR room and continue to drink there!”

FRENCH (2014):

“Alors va boire dans ta chambre”

= ”So go drink in YOUR room.”

So the original English translation from 2005 says “your room”, the 2011 German translation says “your room”, and the 2014 French translation says “your room.” If the revised edition of the novel doesn’t say “your room”, then it’s the wrong translation, not the other three.

CONCLUSION: We have to wait until the revised version comes out later this month, but as of now, yes, Cloud has his own bedroom and he does not share it with Tifa. Odd thing for two people who have supposedly confessed love and “did it” just a few months prior.

***Regarding Tifa’s “Do you love me” question***

JAPANESE:

「わたしのこと、好き？」(”Do you like me”) ~ pg. 71 - 72

She uses “ 好き “ (suki), which can mean “like” in a romantic sense, but she also uses it when she asks Cloud if he “likes” Marlene ( 「ねえ、クラウド。マリンのこと、好き？」). So, technically, she isn’t really asking Cloud if he “loves” her, she’s asking if he “likes” her and Marlene. It’s worth noting that Tifa puts herself on the same level as Marlene in regards to how Cloud feels towards them. Again... Odd for a woman to be scared to ask a man, who supposedly already confessed love to her, if he even “likes” her.

ENGLISH (2005):

“Do you love me” Cloud opened his eyes. He looked perplexed. “Hey, Cloud. Do you love Marlene”

Yes, it uses “love” but it is unclear on whether or not it’s “platonic” or “romantic.” Just as above, it’s weird Tifa doesn’t have the courage to ask Cloud if he “loves” her when CT fans expect us to believe that they confessed love only a few months before this moment.

GERMAN (pg. 77):

Als sie sich eines Nachts davon uberzeugt hattem dass Cloud schlief, fragte sie leise in den Raum: "Zwischen uns stimmt doch alles, oder?"

Naturlich erhelt sie keine Antwort darauf, sie vernahm nur sein leises Atmen. Ob die Tatsache, dass er immer noch Nacht fur Nacht hier schlief, Beweis genug dafur war, dass sie noch eine Familie waren?

"Magst du mich?" Cloud offnete die Augen und sah Tifa verwundert an.

"Sag, Cloud, magst du Marlene?"

"Ja. Aber manchmal weiB ich nicht recht, wie ich auf sie zugehen soll."

"Obwohl du schon so lange mit ihr zusammenlebst?"

"Das alleine reicht wohl nicht aus."

"Und geht es dir bei mir da genauso?"

Cloud blieb ihr die Antwort schuldig."

This is what @minaspassion told me is said in the German version. She elaborated on the word used for “love” and said: “So Tifa is asking, if he likes (="magst", "moegen") her. She is definitively not asking Cloud if he “loves” (="liebst", "lieben") her.“

She continued to say: “ You can consider "moegen" as a synonymous sometimes used for "lieben" (love), since it is a verb that can be used to tell that you care about someone/something. When you read the German version of the quote in context however, you will not get to the idea that it's about love in the romantic sense. If you wanted to express love in a romantic way, then you will use "lieben" in most cases. Even if you would talk about motherly love, you will say "lieben" very often. In everyday language "moegen" is platonic nature. The real point is that we should look at the lines in the overall picture in order to bring the context into effect. Tifa places herself on the same level with Marlene. She is uncertain if Cloud even LIKES her“

Another German fan agreed with Mina’s explanation and said: “ Yes, [I] agree with it. It rarely is romantic but platonic to say "mag/ moegen/ magst" unless the context indicates something different. I can imagine a young girl/boy asking "magst du mich" to be on the safe side, it's still personal and one step closer, but ambiguous enough to not know if they mean moegen as in lieben. If you just ask, magst du mich and later you see your crush flirting with somebody else, you can't be angry with them and say "You told me you like me" "Yes, I do like you. We are friends. Am I not supposed to like my friends?"

So the German version shows Tifa asking Cloud if he “likes” her, not “love” and the word can even be “platonic.” Why is Tifa afraid to know Cloud’s answer if they already confessed love? Makes no sense! Also, Mina said that this implies that Tifa stood in the doorway as she spoke to Cloud. You can see what she said here.

FRENCH (pg. 75):

Ce soir-la, elle se rendit dans la chambre de Cloud. Apres s'etre assuree qu'il dormait bien, elle lui demanda:

- Il n'y a pas de probleme entre nous? Bien sur, elle n'obtint d'autre reponse que la respiration reguliere du jeun homme. “Il pass ses nuits ici, mais cela suffit-il a faire de nous une famille?”

-Tu m'aimes?” Il s'eveilla, la surprise peinte sur le visage.

- Et Marlene, continua Tifa, tu l'aimes? - Oui. Seulement, parfois, je ne sais pas comment me comporter avec elle. -Pourant, tu la connais depuis longtemps. -Peut-etre que je ne saurai jamais comment faire...

@cloudxaerith elaborated on Tifa’s wording and said: “Yes it’s a very childish way to ask it. So I would say it’s definitely more platonic than a serious question. It’s clearly the kind of thing a young child would ask to his/her crush (or even to their parents). If Tifa would have wanted to ask it in [a] more adult way she would have asked “est-ce que tu m'aimes?” Which literally is “do you love me?” (“Tu m'aimes” is literally “you love me?”) “

Another interesting thing is that it says Tifa went into CLOUD’S bedroom.

CONCLUSION: Tifa uses an ambiguous word for “like” or “love” in all versions. It’s clear that Tifa is wondering if Cloud has feelings for her, but she is too scared to know his answer.

*** Regarding Cloud and Aerith’s relationship status***

Although we must wait until the 30th of October to see the English version of this quote, Cloud and Aerith’s relationship has been defined as:

French text provided by @cloudxaerith (post), she said that “The “pas de cette manière” (not in that way) made me more think about the fact they have been together to fight someone but know it’s different. So it’s [literally] different.“ Kura of the Clerith forums also did the English translation for us.

***Regarding Cloud being adopted into the family***

This line is important because it proves that the “family” is not built around romance, but rather friendship. It proves that Tifa still considers Cloud her “friend” rather than “lover.”

JAPANESE (pg. 65 - 66):

Toi aussi tu peux en faire partie, Cloud! - Je t'en suis reconnaissant, assura le jeune homme avec le plus grand serieux. Il leva les yeux vers Tifa, qui repondit d'un petit hochement de tete. L'avenir leur reservait sans doute leur part d'epreuves. Cependant, elle decida de cesser de s'angoisser a propos de leur relation.

Thanks to @cloudxaerith for the scan. As you can see, Marlene still adopts Cloud into the family that Barret, Tifa, and Marlene started. Tifa still refers to Cloud as her “friend.”

Once again, we must wait until the 30th of this month to know how this part is translated in English.

***Regarding the Case of Barret quote about “their home”***

JAPANESE ( pg. 82)

あの日。運命の日から数ヵ月後。バレットはティファとクラウドの家造りを手伝った後、親友ダインの遺児、マリンを二人に託して旅に出た。

( That day. Several months after that fateful day. After Barret helped Tifa and Cloud build their home, he entrusted his best friend Dyne's orphan to them and began his journey. )

FRENCH:

Translation: "After helping Cloud and Tifa build the new Seventh Heaven"

I am waiting for the German version. But as you can see, the French version (provided by @cloudxaerith) says he helped them build the new Seventh Heaven, which doesn’t disagree with the original Japanese vague wording at all.

***Regarding the Case of Barret quote about Cloud “being with” Tifa***

JAPANESE (Pg. 97)

二人は近況を報告しあった。「マリンはティファに預けた。なついてたからな」「そりゃいい。世界中が賛成するぜ。で、クラウドはティファと一緒なのか？」「おう。ティファは昔みたいに店を開いた。クラウドはそこを手伝ってたんだが、今は自分の商売で忙しいらしい。荷物の配送だとよ」「クラウドが？商売？」「ティファがケツ叩くんだろうよ」「なるほど。結局よ、女なんだよな、強いのはよ」

The two filled each other in on what happened. Barret: "I left Marlene with Tifa because they're so close." Cid: "That's good, the whole world would agree on that. So, is Cloud [there] with Tifa?" Barret: "Yeah, Tifa opened up a new bar, just like before. Cloud was helping out but he's busy with his business now, a delivery service." Cid: "Cloud... has a business?" Barret: "Tifa's getting his ass in shape." Cid: "I see. Women are stronger in the end/women are stronger after all."

GERMAN (page 105):

"Und Cloud? Ist er auch bei Tifa?" "And Cloud? Is he at Tifa's, too?"

"Ich schätze, Tifa hat ihm Feuer unterm Hintern gemacht!" “I guess Tifa’s got him on his ass!”

@cloudxaerith had this to say about this scene: “So "être ensemble" could also mean to be together in a place which is logical considering the fact that every member of avalanche are spread out on the world. So cloud and tifa being together at the same place is totally a particular case in the avalanche crew.”

Kura of the Clerith forums had this to say: “ sont ensemble definitely doesn't mean romance by itself. It CAN be used to say people are in a relationship and it CAN be used to say where people are physically. It all depends on the context.”

I BELIEVE that is *every* LTD related quote from the novellas, but if I’m forgetting something then please tell me so I can gather the quotes before the 30th.

Other translations to go over...

The French version says Cloud gives Tifa an “embarrassed smile”, doesn’t say he blushed. I’ll find the German/Japanese equivalent as soon as I can.

Here’s the French translation of Cloud discussing how his problem will never go away because lost lives cannot be retrieved. I’ll find the German/Japanese equivalent as soon as I can.
