so um, do you have any tips on how to get someone to take your system/plurality seriously?

i "came out" as plural to my counselor a while ago without using the specific terms, but it feels like she just isn't taking me seriously, or acknowledging that these parts are seperate pieces of me. its really frustrating, because its something she needs to understand about us... and she just isnt getting it.

again, if you cant help with this, thats fine! i just though id try. and ofc, if you need more info, i am happy to provide it.

hey, we’re really sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with someone in your life who you should be able to rely on not taking your system or plurality seriously.

we do have a post with tips and advice on “coming out” as a system to loved ones.

at this point, after you’ve already talked to your counselor about being plural, it may be a good idea to send some resources her way so she can start learning about plurality from some outside perspectives. for singlets who haven’t really heard much about plurality, it may take learning from a few resources in order for them to realize that this is a real phenomenon, and an integral part of who you are that affects every aspect of your life. we’re not sure whether or not you have a dissociative disorder, and we’ve included these links in the above post, but we’ll go ahead and add links to the articles that we (a did system) use whenever we attempt to explain our multiplicity to someone new.

we do hope that after sharing some resources and talking earnestly and openly about your plurality and how it impacts you, your counselor will be a bit more understanding and accommodating. however, please understand that this might not happen. sometimes singlets can be baffled, indifferent, or uncomfortable about plurality. facing something that they don’t understand may cause them to ignore it or lash out.

our system personally prefers to be ignored as a system rather than be shamed, fakeclaimed, or belittled due to our multiplicity. your system might need to have some internal conversations in order to make this call for yourselves. hopefully, your counselor will be open to learning and can start treating your system with the respect and recognition y’all deserve. but if that doesn’t happen, we hope y’all can find some validation internally and continue to learn more about each other and work together in positive ways.

I was reminded of the pure delight that is the work of @shitpostsampler, and got the thought that in a modern AU Dustin would absolutely be into tumblr and shitposting, and he would totally ask his mom to put her crafting skill to good use for a gag gift to a friend.

Claudia is not sure what this stuff exactly makes reference to, but she's a good, supportive mom, and she likes that Dustin seems interested in her cross stitching, so she goes along and embroiders a little, weird sampler for Erica's birthday.

And from there, it's a deluge of personalized cross stitched things, each pattern carefully chosen by Dustin, while Claudia takes care of the rest.

Did I decide which pattern Dustin woul pick for each kid, teen, and Hopper and Joyce, either as a nice gesture or a gentle jab at the people in his life? Yes I did, of course!

Yo I was scroll through the splatoon tag and saw that plushie post, where'd you get them from, I've been looking for the squid and smallfry plushies

I got them from a website recommended to me by a friend, it’s called Meccha Japan! They’ve got lil buddy there, as well as a bunch of squid and octo plushies!! They’ve even got the Judds!!

Just a heads up, the squid plush I ordered (plush squid green M) was a little bit floppy and limp when it arrived, which seems to be because it doesn’t have a ton of filling/stuffing inside of it. I’m gonna be doing some surgery (adding more stuffing) sometime this week just to make it a bit more solid. I just wanted to include this detail in case anyone was curious; the plushies are fine regardless and lil Buddy did not have the issue!

Ok, soooo. I don’t really care whether taennie is real, bc idols are people and they have a full right to date, it’s fine. But I’m a bit paranoid about all these AI and photoshop things you’re now able to do. Brings a feeling of gaslighting. And what triggers me in a full story is that on the video there are no faces seen clearly (but I must say the way they walk is quite similar) and on the one and only photo of V with his manager which is “clearly showing face” there are weird blurred spots between nose and eyes when you zoom in. An idk what frightens me is that it brings a real gaslight-like feeling, because from the first glance “it’s V”, but the more you look into that the more moments are questionable: the form of nose and lips (they’re basically crooked on the photo), eyes have more narrow distance between e/o than Tae has

So my whole point is it can be unhealthy for the audience to not clear the whole thing up with a statement, especially when u can construct a whole reality with tools on your notebook. (I mean really, you can copy one design of skirt and replace it on the picture, and it’s just frightening)

Yeah, I understand what you mean I think. I’m not a big fan of ai in general, and fandom using it these days is.. well it has the potential to create a mess. It’s great to play with for fun, but when things like this get used to persuade it gets creepy.

I think in general we will be able to identify real situations from false ones. There will always be more clues aside from what we can see. And also, the company will make sure things don’t get too out of hand. They don’t want to destroy Tae’s career (although some think so, but I personally do not), so they will want to control the narrative in the best way. If they themselves use photoshop it will only be subtle things, if fandom uses photoshop or Ai to create a certain narrative they will intervene and make a statement.

Although Ai is quite new, there’s always been tactics like this. We’ve had the emerging of social media change things, before that there was regular media making things up.. and we got used to that as well.

In this case, it’s their intention to make fandom and general public speculate. It gives them the most attention. Confirming or denying will make an end to speculations (for a part at least) and they won’t be able to use the high surges of attention for promo much.

I thought this article was rather interesting, because I have also considered this change as well. I don’t see it as ‘companies being more respectful’ though… I see it as leaving room for interpretation.

Based in Canberra, Australia, Marzena has maintained a professional practice in portraiture and landscape photography since the mid-1980s. She is currently a PHD candidate in Photography and Media Arts at the Australian National University.

Negotiating a family portrait (2010-2021)

This is an accurate title for the group of family portraits made over the last decade. It adequately summarises how I think about the act and procedure of making family portraits for public viewing. Each portrait in this group might benefits from a subtitle. I'm keenly aware of the discussions and negotiations of private and public - what to exhibit and what to keep private. (This extends to the decision, not to photograph some event.) Image makers tread this fine line when contributing to the dialogue of family portraiture while revealing something candid but not uncensored.

There is a performative aspect, each person has a sense of contributing to the portrait, simultaneously existing in a private space but aware of being seen publicly.

I love the collaborations with my family. We lead busy, disparate lives - as many families do. These calls to action, for me, exist as very meaningful intersections.

I long for my family members to be the actors in my images but hope that each photograph holds the essence of a genuine, personal event, for each of us.

Continuously fluctuating selection reveals fine granularity of adaptation | Nature Here we generated genome-wide allele frequency data every 1–2 generations from a genetically diverse population of Drosophila melanogasterin extensively replicated field mesocosms from late June to mid-December (a period of approximately 12 total generations). Adaptation throughout the fundamental ecological phases of population expansion, peak density and collapse was underpinned by extremely rapid, parallel changes in genomic variation across replicates. Yet, the dominant direction of selection fluctuated repeatedly, even within each of these ecological phases. Comparing patterns of change in allele frequency to an independent dataset procured from the same experimental system demonstrated that the targets of selection are predictable across years. In concert, our results reveal a fitness relevance of standing variation that is likely to be masked by inference approaches based on static population sampling or insufficiently resolved time-series data. We propose that such fine-scaled, temporally fluctuating selection may be an important force contributing to the maintenance of functional genetic variation in natural populations and an important stochastic force impacting genome-wide patterns of diversity at linked neutral sites, akin to genetic draft.

Plants, Vol. 13, Pages 1130: Fine Mapping of qAL5.2 Controlling Anther Length in Oryza sativa

Anther length is the critical floral trait determining hybrid rice seed production and is controlled by many quantitative trait loci (QTL). However, the cloning of genes specifically controlling anther size has yet to be reported. Here, we report the fine mapping of qAL5.2 for anther size using backcross inbred lines (BILs) in the genetic background of Oryza sativa indica Huazhan (HZ). Gene chip analysis on the BC4F2 and BC5F1 population identified effective loci on Chr1, Chr5, and Chr8 and two genomic regions on Chr5, named qAL5.1 and qAL5.2. qAL5.2 was identified in both populations with LOD values of 17.54 and 10.19, which explained 35.73% and 25.1% of the phenotypic variances, respectively. Ultimately qAL5.2 was localized to a 73 kb region between HK139 and HK140 on chromosome 5. And we constructed two near-isogenic lines (NILs) for #RNA-seq analysis, named NIL-qAL5.2HZ and NIL-qAL5.2KLY, respectively. The result of the GO enrichment analysis revealed that differential genes were significantly enriched in the carbohydrate metabolic process, extracellular region, and nucleic acid binding transcription, and KEGG enrichment analysis revealed that alpha-linolenic acid metabolism was significantly enriched. Meanwhile, candidate genes of qAL5.2 were analyzed in #RNA-seq, and it was found that ORF8 is differentially expressed between NIL-qAL5.2HZ and NIL-qAL5.2KLY.
