I understand why people want to use Arabic names for places in Palestine. However, a lot of Hebrew names for those places predate Zionism and have been used continuously for thousands of years. Saying Jersusalem/Yerushalyim instead of Al Quds isn’t necessarily Zionist. There are some places that are exceptions to this. For example, Tel Aviv, Qiryat Shemona, and Eilat are truly modern Hebrew/Israeli inventions.

Fandoms will ship two het men who simply breathe next to each other but god forbid a Black woman has a relationship with or even just chemistry with the popular male lead. And this happens in EVERY fandom (see tags for examples) with a prominent Black female character. They were even vehemently against Miles Morales and the Black spider girl (Margo).

It’s just very telling that certain people are suddenly “platonic love/besties/sibling energy only otherwise the show is ruined!!” when the fem character is Black.

It’s ok to not ship characters, but the overwhelming backlash to these specific ones has been so ridiculous and very obviously racially motivated. There are articles now discussing whether harmless shipping of two fictional adult characters is acceptable, and on the cover of them is typically an interracial pairing involving a Black woman…

one thing I do find absolutely fascinating is the way Buck's negative emotions and doubts are invalidated by the people around him

like, the lawsuit era was a clusterfuck, sure. it was like taking a flamethrower to an anthill, i'll give you that. but the emotions that sparked that reaction were valid, even though no one in the show really admits that.

and now this thing with Abby?

no, we don't really get to judge Tommy for surviving by choosing to hide. but we can judge him for the things he did while putting on that mask. he's valid for protecting himself but he's not valid for the very real hurt he caused by engaging in harmful cycles and punishing others for the loss of control he felt in his own life.

it's not that he dated Abby. it's that he dated her, chose to propose to her, broke it off in a way that we know was messy and hurtful to Abby, and then made a comment about her "taking up with a himbo half her age" as if he doesn't have the same age difference in his own relationship.

as if he's judging her for the way she chose to survive.

If he had given Abby even an ounce of grace in that conversation, if he had expressed any sort of remorse for proposing when he knew she wasn't what he wanted or for the way things ended between them, then Josh's speech would've been given more credence and more weight.

But that didn't happen and instead, Josh's speech just feels like a dismissal of some very valid questions and doubts. instead, Buck is once again told that he's wrong for feeling things instead of being told that while his feelings are valid, there may be a side he's not considering.

and then Buck and his abandonment issues feel so sick with guilt for doubting at all that he massively over-compensates once again by jumping 4 steps ahead in a relationship before either of them was ready for it and it backfired spectacularly
