MattyLovesFootball 2023: My annual outlook at how the NFL will shape up
Welcome to NFL Kickoff 2023. It’s here. For fans of the 32 NFL franchises in play: it’s a clean slate. Even the Texans faithful have reason to be interested in this season (maybe?). I want to take a minute and write a few things about each team and then give you my annual, somewhat unreasonable predications. All records are estimates. I’m not doing the math. Before looking forward, we must look…

MattyLovesFootball: My 2019 NFL Unreasonable Predictions
Welcome to a brand-new NFL season. Just think, in two months we’ll all be saying, “Geez! It’s already Week 10!” So, let’s really saver this Week 1. Watch old games on YouTube. Take another look at your favorite team’s schedule and their counterparts’ as well. Know what you got. You only have one week out of the year to really do this with a positive outlook. Take this chance.
Don’t do it now,…

MattyLovesKISS 01.08.2019: Countdowns... My Top 25 Kiss Cuts - "Final Five"
MattyLovesKISS 01.08.2019: Countdowns… My Top 25 Kiss Cuts – “Final Five”
I know it’s been a couple of weeks since finishing what I’ve started here but the holidays can be wild! Especially when you make plans in advance. Aside from the Christmas break, I went to Manhattan to see Phish for two nights on December 30 and 31. It was out of sight. This past week, I recovered and worked a ton on various things, including this: the final KISS countdown.
When I first wrote the…

MattyLovesKISS 12.25.2018: Countdowns… My Top 25 KISS Kuts #10-6
Merry Christmas! Hope everyone enjoys their day. I was gifted a copy of KISS: Behind the Mask. Thanks, Santa. Here’s the first half of my top ten favorite KISS classics.
10. “King of the Night Time World” – Alive! II
We’ve officially cracked the top-10. This is another song that works in the studio but doesn’t really tear through your sonic sensibilities until you catch the live version. I first…

MattyLovesComics 12.22.2018: Five (or more) Mainstream Comic Book Series You Should’ve Read in 2018
MattyLovesComics 12.22.2018: Five (or more) Mainstream Comic Book Series You Should’ve Read in 2018
I was just thinking the other day how it’s been a couple years since I’ve had an extensive look back on my year of reading comic books. Last year was a transition from school to full-time “adulting.” I got way behind and didn’t feel like I had enough knowledge to confidently review the highlights of 2017. I also found myself burned out in 2016 and 2017. During my time in Florida, I read and wrote…

MattyLovesKISS 12.17.2018: Countdowns… My Top 25 KISS Kuts #15-11
I’m excited entering the top fifteen. There’s a heavy live album and VHS influence from here on out. I can’t stress listening to these tracks as a companion for those of you unfamiliar with the KISS catalog. Enough babbling. Let’s get to it.
15. “Black Diamond” – Alive!/X-treme Close-Up Polygram VHS/DVD
Legendary.
No, it’s not about the most difficult course at a ski resort. I can tell you that…

MattyLovesKISS 12.10.2018: Countdowns… My Top 25 Kiss Kuts #20-16
Like Casey Kasem used to say, “Now let’s get on with the countdown.”
20. “Sure Know Something” – MTV Unplugged
In 1995, KISS’ MTV Unplugged proved one thing the television special advertised, KISS was back (again). When the band busted into “Sure Know Something” for the live taping, you can tell that was the moment the crowd in attendance knew it too. This performance is arguably the best from…

MattyLovesKISS 12.03.2018: Countdowns… My Top 25 KISS Kuts #25-21
During the most impressionable period of my life, KISS was my first “Favorite Band.” I’ve read comic books just as long as I’ve been a member of the KISS Army. What drew me in to KISS, like almost everybody, was their bombastic appearance. KISS are the greatest representation of real life comic book heroes moonlighting as the ultimate rock and roll experience. I took pride as a 16-year old punk…

MattyLovesHaddonfield 10.20.2018: The "Spoilery" Halloween (2018) Review
MattyLovesHaddonfield 10.20.2018: The “Spoilery” Halloween (2018) Review
I left Friday afternoon’s screening of David Gordon Green’s Halloween shaking my head and thinking to myself, “What in the hell has Laurie Strode done on Halloween for the past 39 years?”
The original Halloween (1978)is—in my humble opinion—the most beautifully shot/written/performed film in the history of cinema. The movie is packed with suspense and has a terrifying soundtrack that carries the…

MattyLovesWrestling 10.17.2018: #WaryahWednesday
10.17.2018
What’s shaking, “Waryahs?” I’m back again this week to continue the analysis of The Ultimate Warrior’s promos and interviews during his heyday in the then-World Wrestling Federation.
As I’ve shown you thus far, Warrior was all about pumping himself up in his early work. “The Philosophy of The Ultimate Warrior” had yet to slip through the creative cracks. That would soon change during…

MattyLovesWrestling 10.10.2018: #WaryahWednesday
10.10.2018
Welcome back to another #WaryahWednesday—a weekly blog series where I break down my theories on the philosophy of WWE Hall of Famer, The Ultimate Warrior. I consider Warrior to be one of the most misunderstood pro-wrestlers in the history of the sport/business. A lot of wrestling fans know Jim Helwig as the guy who Vince McMahon saw to be the next big thing, but the plan failed as…

MattyLovesWrestling 10.03.2018: #WaryahWednesday
Hello, “Waryahs.” This week we continue the world’s introduction to The Ultimate Warrior. While breaking down these early promos, one can already tell that Vince McMahon had high hopes from the Warrior right out of the gate. How could he not? Outside of Hulkster and a few others, no one else had a “look” like Jim Helwig in early 1988. The “face paint era” of pro-wrestling was in full swing. To…

MattyLovesWrestling 09.26.2018: “Waryah” Wednesdays
09.26.2018
This week’s “Waryah” Wednesday features a promotional interview with The Ultimate Warrior and Don Muraco. Regional wrestling promotions used this method of advertising to bring people to the arenas and armories. Jim Crockett Promotionsutilized their talent to promote events better than anyone. However, the end of 1988 soon brought an end to WWF using an interviewer like “Mean” Gene…

MattyLovesWrestling: "Waryah" Wednesdays 09.19.2018
MattyLovesWrestling: “Waryah” Wednesdays 09.19.2018
09.19.2018
The Ultimate Warrior is my favorite WWE (then WWF) wrestler of all time. In my opinion, he became the stereotype for all professional wrestlers depicted in other forms of media from the time Warrior arrived on the scene in late 1987 until the late 1990’s. Just for flavor, I would throw Big Van Vader in there as another template for that period.
The look wasn’t the only stereotypical…

MattyLovesFootball: 2018 Unreasonable NFL Predictions
MattyLovesFootball: 2018 Unreasonable NFL Predictions
While watching television with my Dad a month ago, we both realized that NFL Training Camp arrived. Then the scintillating preseason action followed a few weeks later. Last weekend was my second fantasy draft in as many weeks. Now, we’re here, folks. Feel the power.
Look it—a lot has happened since my first fantasy draft two and a half weeks ago. You would think that eventually people won’t get…
