Imagine after Dumbledore dies Mary can remember everything again and eventually she decides to write to Remus she sends the letter to Remus and Sirius' old flat/apartment assuming Remus still lives there only for her to get a response from someone named grant Chapman saying he used to know Remus and has been living in remus' old flat since 1995. Grant also mentions he was still writing to Remus only for the letters to stop at the start of March 1998, as Remus had died. Imagine the shock and pain on Mary's face as she wishes she never got her memories back. And imagine a 19 year old harry Potter getting a letter from a Mary McDonald explaining she was a friend of lily, James, Remus, etc etc, and she'd like to see him. When they eventually meet up Harry is faced with an older version of a face from photo's harry found of his mother and her friends at godrics hollow.

ALMOST MADE ME CRY IN BIOLOGY THANKS

Regulus tried not to show how anxious he was as he waited hand-in-hand with James on Platform 9 3/4, eyes glued on the scarlet train slowly approaching the crowd. He had always been good at hiding his nervousness, but sending Harry to Hogwarts was one of the most terrifying things he'd ever done.

So he'd been excited to greet this son on the platform, to pull him into his arms and see with his own eyes that he was okay (even after the Quidditch incident). He'd been thinking about it for weeks. prepared himself to not completely break down with relief on the platform.

What he hadn't been prepared for was for Harry to come running toward him, a giant grin on his face. He hadn't been prepared to be pulled into a hug that made him want to cry, James's arm around him on one side and Harry's on the other as the three of them embraced.

"Haz! I thought you were happy to be rid of us!" James laughed, unaware of the way Regulus's heart was expanding with joy. "You were so excited to get on the train in September!"

Harry just smiled, pulling back and looking at James and Regulus. "Hogwarts is the best," he agreed, green eye wide. "But..." his eyes trailed over the crowd, locking onto someone Regulus couldn't spot, "I met some kids who hate it at home. They actually," he cleared his throat and swallowed, expression disbelieving, "they're scared to go home. It made me thankful that I can be happy to come home as well, you know?"

The statement his\t Regulus so completely that he almost collapsed on the platform. Memories of sitting on the Hogwarts Express, terrified to leave the train, invaded his brain. Memories of shock when he'd met James's parents and seen a family that showed love. Memories of being terrified to start a family, for fear of continuing the same cycle.

A strong, sure hand wrapped around his waist, squeezing reassuringly, and he felt James kiss his temple, murmuring quietly, "I love you, baby," all while Regulus stared at Harry in wonder.

"I...you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear you say that, Harry," he said tearfully, again pulling his son in for a hug, waves of gratefulness washing over him.

Regulus, 15, rolling his eyes: Yes, but I'm not proud of it.

Regulus, 19: Would you still love me if I came out as a man, burn all the pretty dresses you like on me, cut my hair you are obsessed with, change my name and my body?

James, not missing a beat: I would carry you around after your surgery. I would take you shopping and spoil you rotten. I'd take you to a tailor so you can get your clothes exactly how you want them. I'd pay for every surgery, document change, hormones, clothes. I'd throw you a gender reveal party. I'd call you handsome and beautiful through any and every questionable style choice. I'd make you my husband and I'd be very, very proud of that.

James: I'll love you for as long as I live, no matter what you do or who you want to be, my darling. Always and forever.

Regulus, close to tears: k, just checking.

Regulus stood at the door to James' family home like a statue, clutching onto the only thing keeping him from letting his legs give in and walk away into the snowy weather, a box of cookies he stayed up all night trying to perfect.

He nervously eased his hand up to knock the door when it burst open, and there apeared a fully Christmased up James, wearing reindeer antlers and a light up Christmas jumper. His face lit up almost as bright as the flashing of his jumper.

"Reggie, mi amor!!" He grinned, pulled Regulus into a tight hug that he tried to return without dropping the container.

"Hi Jami-" Before he could get another word out, Euphemia came out of nowhere, "Regulus my dear!! Merry Christmas honey! Goodness get inside its freezing out here!" She hurried the two of them inside, James keeping hold of Regulus' hand as Euphemia closed the door behind her, turning to see what Regulus was holding.

"Oh my lovely you didnt need to bring anything, just you being here makes us happy enough as much as we appreciate it!!" She smiled, Regulus returning it bashfully.

"Well... i thought since it's my first time meeting you id make you a gift... if that's okay of course!" He rushed, not wanting to come off too strong.

"Oh nonsense Reg dear of course its okay!! Ill put those throught he kitchen and you can sit with your brother and James whilst me and Monty finish up making dinner" She smiled caringly.

"Okay, thank you Mrs Potter" Regulus smiled.

"Call me Effie dearie" Euphemia grinned with a wink, making her way with the container to the kitchen.

Regulus could already tell that he was gonna love it here.

Regulus sat in the astronomy tower, scarf wrapped around his neck and gloves clinging to his hands as he watched the snow fall. Tomorrow would be the day everyone goes home for the Christmas holidays, including him. He'd be back in that same old house, with his same old family, with their same old values.

With their same old abuse.

Whilst other families will be spending Christmas cosied up by the fire, opening presents, and having fun with loved ones, he'd be going about his day like it was any other because how dare the thought of celebrating a filthy muggle holiday even cross his mind. He has and never will be aloud to celebrate Christmas.

Just as Regulus was about to start moping some more about how much he was dreading tomorrow's train ride, the door to the astronomy tower burst open, making Regulus jump and let out a small squeel, and who other than James Fleamont fucking Potter to show up at a time like this huh?

James'face lit up at the sight of him, "Reggie, hi!" he said in that dumb angelic voice of his whilst wearing that stupidly gorgeous smile that he hated.

"What do you want, Potter? im busy!" Regulus said, eyes glaring trying to scare him away.

James looked at him, smile fading into a worried frown. "Is everything okay Reg..? What happened?" James makes his way over to Regulus, his eyebrows creased as he looked down at him, taking Regulus' hands in his. Regulus took a shakey breath.

"O-Of course i am?!" He stuttered, trying to keep up a cold act. "Why would it matter to you Potter, its none of your business!" He spits, again trying to make him go away. He was starting to get emotional now.

"Not when you're so clearly upset! I know you, you're gonna pretend like nothings wrong and try to get me to leave you alone, then you're gonna be up here for the next 4 or so hours upset out of your mind. So tell me Reggie, whats wrong?" James stated, still holding Regulus' hands gently. He began to tear up. How could James know him so well?

"I dont want to go home for Christmas" He lets out in one breath. Eyes tearing up at the thought of spending another Christmas without his brother; cold, sore, and alone.

"I-I hate it there James! If one word comes out of my mouth if ive not been spoken to i get hexed! The abuse was bad when Sirius was there but ever since he left its just gotten worse! Im scared to breath to loud around them James!" He breaks down, tears now spilling out of his eyes from all the built up pain and hurt he hasnt let out for the past 3 years.

James pulled him into his chest and held him closely as Regulus wept, holding on tight. "Shhh its okay..." James comforted.

James pulled away and held Regulus' face in his hands, wipping away the tears as best he can, and James' eyes lit up with an idea.

"Come home with me." He spluttered out, Regulus' gave a shocked expression, not expecting such a proposition.

"B-But- I cant! They'll come after me James! Dont be so nieve! If they find me theyll hurt you!" Regulus panicked, how could James think of such an idea?! it would only make things worse... right?

"Think about it Reg! Christmas with Sirius! And me of course but thats besides the point... and even if they do come looking for you we wont let them take you! Trust me Reggie" James says, looking into his eyes with hope and very poorly hidden excitement. And for somr reason, he does trust him. He sniffs and lets a small smile cross his face.

"I suppose... its not the worst idea your brains came up with..." Regulas says, slightly teasing. James lets out a laugh as a huge grin plants itslef on him. Something small, white and fragile catches james' attention, his eyes slowly following it before it lands on Regulus' red cold nose.

"A snowflake..." James murmured, a look of pure adoration in his eyes looking at the smaller boy who was trying to see the snowflake before it melted.

Regulus let out a small laugh before meeting his gaze. He gave a soft smile in return.

"Thank you James"

"Its my pleasure Reggie"
