How Smart is Dick Grayson?
Nightwing is highly intelligent. This is someone who learned and became an expert in forensics and criminology within 6 months when he was 8-12 years old. He’s a master detective, with a record to prove it.
And because it’s a feat people rate despite meaning nothing at all, in Nightwing #152 - Ra’s calls Dick detective.

Action Comics #842 - Immediately takes command over a group of meta humans which includes Superman once their group is attacked
Booster Gold v2 #22-23 - In an altered timeline Dick is killed in the past while he was still Robin and as a result the JLA was left without it’s greatest tactician (Batman/Dick Grayson) to come up with a plan to defeat Trigon who ends up conquering earth. This is due to the fact that Dick wasn’t around to replace Bruce Wayne/Batman when he was “killed” by Darkseid during the Final Crisis story

Had to read another Stupid Take about Dick being categorized as someone “Foreign” to Gotham.
Go fuck yourselves.
You guys talk as if Dick spent his entire life out of Gotham. Only 8 out of his 24-28-ish years on that particular earth, was unmarked for. He may have been born there for all we know.
Not that this would matter since he clearly has roots there. His family dead and buried there. He fuckin BUILT Gotham on his childhood. It’s functional only because he was there to stop it going crazy.
Look what happens every time he very very briefly leaves because Bruce clearly does/doesn’t want him there.
Gotham CLAIMED him already.
Get over yourselves.

Listen i like fans who stan him…
But if I have to hear one more person attribute everything that Dick is to Bruce…yet again.
I’m going to scream.
Like it’s a goddamn virus is what I’m saying the amount Dick gets whittled down to
“…for Bruce.”
“Gives hope to Bruce”
“Bends over backwards for Bruce”
“…to Bruce”
“His actions are about Bruce…”
Whatever he says does thinks and conceives is Bruce fucking Bruce BRUCE BRUCE…
I’m asking—no BEGGING people who clearly stan Dick and clearly love him and appreciate him to be mindful here of this fucking shit.
Like you guys make paragraphs DEDICATED to Dick breathing just To Bruce. And it’s…it’s too damn much so I’ll tell you the REAL MOTHERFUCKIN REASON THE JOKER HAAAATES DICK.
And it has to do with JUST DICK. And why it’s sooo FUCKING REMOVED FROM BRUUUUUCE.
Ok ready?
HERE IT FUCKIN IS.
Dick’s EXISTENCE PROVES JOKER WRONG.
There I said it.
He proves this fuckface clown is just another petty, whining fake edgelord cry baby who thinks “waaa waaaaa I had ONE BAD DAY and look what it made me do!!!! Waaaaaa there’s REASONS WHY IM DEPLORABLE AND AWFUL AND the world SUCKS and this is the SUCKY PERSON that it created, so now EVERYTHING and EVERYONE has to just DEAL. I SUCH #EDGY SOCIAL COMMENTARY…ooh look at me! Just anyone can become me with a push…we LIIIIIIIVE iN a sOcIEtY…”
Ppppffffffffttttt
FUCK YOU, you FUCKIN JOKE!!!
Oh you had One Bad Day (tm)
Try a LIFETIME, dude bro. Try a childhood stolen by death. Yeah? And then A fuckface adopted asshole who lifts you up and shows you noble causes and the SHINY HOPEFUL DREAM OF A WORLD where you’re good and righteous and capable and then drops you like a hot potato when you don’t fit his hallucination, when you can’t be his crutch anymore.
Try a lifetime of thankless little shits wearing your dead parents clothes and not knowing why. Try a lifetime of these little fuckers throwing resentments for shit you didn’t even do!!! Your dad-not-dad GAVE THEM THESE FUCKING HANGUPS!!! WTF?!
And then after that try, every PTSD INDUCED NIGHTMARE ever coming at you to kill you since you were 8, while you wear a onesie and slap em away with a pair of sticks.
And because I know you, little bitches. I know how you think in Bruce. You’re gonna tell me, “well Bruce is also proof that one BAD DAY doesn’t turn you into the Joker.”
Listen, you little shit. Bruce is white knuckling it EVERY SECOND OF EVERY DAY to NOT go on a killing spree. It is IN TEXT that the Bad Day came and went and took all his fuckface sanity with it.
He’s MAD.
Joker loves him because he succumbed already. It’s done. That’s it.
Bruce is JADED to the point of no return. He is the joker now. He enables the joker to prove a point to HIMSELF. He’s in a stupid game of keep-away. And he’s not even in the race anymore. He’s on the losing side and keeps doing laps. He is INSANE. Joker won him as a play thing at a raffle.
And Dick didn’t give him HOPE. May that idea just DIE in a FIRE.
Where is the Hope? WHERE?
Bruce has nothing in him to hope for.
When someone does the right thing and shows you up and you’re giving a turmoiled little round of applause for someone who does things better than you could ever hope to do?
Guess what that is?
FAILURE.
It’s YOUR FAILURE.
When you have every chance and are given motivation to do better and you still bitch and moan how that’s for your good son-not-son and not for you…
Guess what?
It sounds like every resentful parents thing where they give you a double faced compliment.
My fuckface mom does this ALL the fucking Time. I never inspired that bitch or gave her Hope.
She does the whole “ugh god my kid is sooooo much more talented than me and amazing. If I had had half their talent what I could’ve done…but that’s not for me.”
Thanks asshole, you just gave a nice compliment about your kid, and made it about yourself.
“Waaaah I’ll never be as good. Waah I’ll never be as bright and shining and righteous”
Yeah asshole. You gave up. You proved the Joker right and NOW you’ve left your son-not-son alone to do battle because you’re too much of a coward to do the right thing.
DO 👏BETTER👏
Joker and Bruce are peas in a pod.
“Waaaah waah waaah this putrid existence is just DOOM and suffering. And I’m doing my monologue about it but I’m sooo different.”
Fuck that shit.
Everyone needs to be hated by the Joker as a treat. I’m doing things the RIGHT WAY if this fucker hates my guts.
#WINNING
#GOALS
I FUCKIN LOVE DICK GRAYSON just for himself. He’s a freakin ROCKSTAR. No one better. No character out there doing this shit.
You’re doing AMAZING, sweety!
The Joker particularly hates Dick out of everyone but it's not because Dick killed him.
He wanted Dick to kill him, that was his plan because he thought he was dying and making Batman's son break his own rule would be the perfect way to go, he wanted it so much, he had a meta amplify Dick's anger.
We can debate why he hates him so much:
my serious answer is that Dick as Robin was the first to bring a lot of hope to Batman and Joker can't have that because it goes against everything he was trying to achieve/his entire ideology, my less serious answer is that 10 years old Dick was a) funnier than him and b) nitpicking his Clownness and Joker could never forgive this.
But the killing is not it.

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK.
NIGHTWING 👏IS 👏NOT 👏A 👏LEGACY👏
Bruce Wayne, who fired Dick from his own costume, should not wear another costume of his.
It feels pretty obvious and I don't understand why we even have to say it.
Also Nightwing is not a legacy.

i like dick best when he's stylistically handsome and not just... a man who is handsome. does that make sense? i don't want the usuals that combine to make the average handsome man. i don't want the regular european niceties that create a man you'd pass on the street or see on tv and think handsome. dick should be stunningly normal guy handsome. there should be a certain style or fashion about him that makes you look back, take a second look. you should see him and recognize that there's something there, something eerily beautiful, but by the time your brain processes this, he's already turned the corner, or his face is looking a different way, or he's just out of sight. there should be something in his essence that does make you want to look but also something that's a bit hard to grasp in the second he's in your view. there should be something there that lingers in your brain, like some kind of hauntingly ethereal after image
#dick grayson#there was something about him- the way he was drawn -that made me think thats not the dick grayson i know...#idk!!! i couldnt even tell you what exactly it is that blurs that after image of his attractiveness#but its just there#nightwing#meta!wing if you will#tags are everything

1) wow, reading all of your commentary and then seeing all the Sick Grayson stuff everywhere else on Tumblr is WHIPLASH. Also, I think your commentary is really good and is giving me a better understanding of Dick Grayson and DC as a whole
2) can you make a post with comic examples of Garth/Dick? I really like the ship but it isn't very popular. It's fine if you don't, just if you want to and have time
THANK YOU THANK YOU…
oof I feel sooo bad. I got this ask AGES AGO. I’m really bad at writing back to people. But I’m very happy when you guys engage with me so I’m not shaking my fist at the void like some grouchy person cursing out raccoons in the dark night of my porch.
Umm I digress.
I think I’ve got a pretty good compilation of dick/garth started on this blog under that tag or WetWing…or you know what just click Garth and he shall appear lol. I’m sure there’s more…but this ain’t a bad place to start from is what I’m saying.

How do you feel about Garth, dick, and Donna throuple?
Well…it’s not for me, friend.
If I’m gonna be HONEST with you. Just YEET the Donna. Just do it. Just…a gentle nudge to space vacuum. She’ll be ok I promise. It’s ok. We don’t have to include her in everything just because she’s the Titans token female. It’s alright.
You want a REAL throuple with Dick? Then it’d go something like:
Dick X JUSTICE X and Garth thrown in there every Titans reunion.
I don’t mind Garth X JUSTICE X Dick or Dick X Garth X JUSTICE, or any mix therein.
But Dick is sorta a one thing at a time person. So I think Lady Justice would have his FULL ATTENTION with Garth shakin a fin in the background, doing a keg stand and DJ’ing. Cause he’s nothing if not fucking SUPPORTIVE and the more polyamorous of the two.

See now that would’ve implied he knew he was writing for a A-list Nightwing title, which has its own history and canon and not some C-list Bat character who just appears when they need a Batman-lite character to rehash things already done in Batman mythos.
See…there’s two groups of Nightwing/Dick Grayson writers.
You have the Bill Fingers, the Marv Wolfmans, the Sam Humphrey’s who think Dick has an actual canon to himself, and individual themes and interesting plot points that deserve to be explored, and driven by his character.
And then you have the Dixons the Devin the Taylor who thinks Dick is disconnected from his past canon, is not a leading character in his own book, acts more like a codependent side-character to a VERY Bruce shaped mythos, needs his hand held because he’s getting knocked out STUPIDLY every two seconds, is a performative Leader and is more of a company mascot and kept pet rather than the founding father of DC itself and the man the entire cape and mask community would follow unto DEATH. Doesn’t initiate or push the plots of his narrative, and what’s more whose villains don’t reflect his own internally complex intricacies but always reflect a creepy funhouse mirror of his father-not-father, his creepy voyeuristic stalker who calls itself his girlfriend, and now lately Alfred, oh and mafia boss siblings or girlfriends…they’re interchangeable really…honestly these are the writers who think he’s whittled down to only 2 themes “Daddy issues” and “Manwhore shaped Girl Problems.”
why the fuck did tom taylor choose circ-en-arrh as dick's split mind codeword

Or I dunno pick ANY one of the 80+ years of writing under his belt where he wasn’t a cop for 2 seconds of his existence, and where, admittedly, the writing was pretty bad and late 90’s (possibly early 2000’s) bullshittery.
Y’all wiki-read anything other than shitty Dixon/Devin era?

also i think about Crime Alley as both the physical source for bruce’s loss and also a sign of gotham’s renewal — leslie’s clinic as one example, or bruce’s dedication to social reform in park row. how after twenty years he is still tethered to the cinema, the alley, the gutters. he knows each brick by touch alone, in the dark he can find his way unaided. like the manor it is the foundation holding him upright. does he find comfort there for himself, knowing that he can always return?
but the graysons died in a field, in the ring. the ring is not stationary, it moves as haleys does. its sawdust floor is discarded after the show, its bleachers disassembled, the big top packed away for the next town, the next country, the next show. the graysons died at haleys, but it isn’t anywhere their son can return to. he can stand in the field, knee deep in grass, but the crowd will not be there, nor the tent nor the jugglers. he could travel the world and never truly find the place his parents died. the only way out is through.
#this is beautiful#bruce wayne#dick grayson#robin#batman#robin!dick#Bruce’s loss vastly differs from Dick under this lens#I like where they run parallel and where they’re different#this is why Bruce’s fairytale archetype fits an Orphaned Prince who uses his silver spoon to advocate his city#it wasn’t a man who killed the Wayne’s it was an idea it was grief and the Great Depression and Desperate people turned violent#it was a man who had the city in his hands and in the shadows who killed the Graysons#it was a man who truly owned the city#a mob boss who could murder at will and was like a despot holding the kingdom under fear#the kingdom that was rightfully Bruce’s#that’s what Batman was up against#it was him against this shadow ruler#and in Dick’s story the Vengeance has a name has a face#it’s a villain who thinks he is untouchable#and this boy from essentially nowhere who essentially has nothing is suddenly the FIRST knight Bruce employs in his service#Bruce wills Dick’s belief and molds his vengeance into a Mission a Service#and it’s fitting this boy from Nowhere who has Nothing is the one to bring down this Mob Boss#this pretender to Bruce’s rightful throne#damn I feel so much for this#evey your original meta on Bruce and Boss Zucco being the flip side of the coin of each other is the craziest and most valid thing

Wally/Dick anon here: yes, I understand. When (unfounded, IMO) fanon becomes canon, this is where I'm not okay anymore. As an Elseworld story, this ship being canon might be fun, but it wouldn't make sense/be a good idea, for all the reasons you've given, in the main continuity.
I often nod along reading your posts, and the impression of (often justified) anger mostly comes from the frequent use of capitals, which I always take as someone yelling. I mostly hope things were better for Dick and that you could one day use caps-lock to express your joy about something great having happened to him in the current era (being rightly characterized and in a good story mostly).
Thank you for your answer : )
🥹💖
I like this. You’re a good egg. One Day we shall Capslock like KINGS over Dick’s VICTORY in comics.
It kinda sucks but we can’t just enjoy a crack ship indiscriminately anymore, and lords knows that I’ve had one or two in my day.
It’s really the PROBLEM of Creators and certain Conglomerates that think “oh that’s what the PEOPLE WANT! By Jove we shall SELL THE MOST PANDERING COMICS EVER AND BE PROSPEROUS HUZZAH!” —I’m looking at you Tom Taylor.
And that’s how we end up with murders and life altering injuries and a Ric arc that no one asked for or wanted or a cousin Oliver or two in the Batcave.
Please everyone Fandom RESPONSIBLY.
Thank you for your ask…I’m notoriously BAD at answering things in time and I kinda lose steam and momentum because of #TRAUMA induced DEPRESSION…
I gotta be careful that all the energy I’ve got in my back pocket is from being angry all the time…
So I’m trying to read some Golden Age Dick as Robin to chill out and share The Good Shit with people, like the responsible NERD that I am.
And what I’m trying to say is thank you for being kind in the anon mode.
Keep enjoying my rants lol 😅
