All your emotions are vital for your wellbeing.
In My Rose Garden is an uplifting blog to encourage and inspire people who have gone through serious medical procedures, such as amputation, mastectomy or lumpectomy, & life-changing diagnoses, such as cancer or stroke.
I compiled a series of 15 posters about the main benefits of the most prominent emotions that are raging when people receive adverse medical diagnoses that can change their lives as they know it today. Each emotion is important in your survival and to thrive towards wholeness.
My counselling sessions are helpful when you are struggling to cope with a crisis and don’t know how to deal with life-changing trauma. You can book your session at www.aquillasa.co.za. The process is confidential and secure.

Trauma is not a diagnosis. Experiencing emotional turmoil after receiving a life-threatening diagnosis creates an intense sense of danger and leaves a lasting scar. This profound emotional wound constitutes trauma. Enduring pain is a natural part of being human, and our resilience helps us navigate trauma over time. A wise counsellor can assist you through the difficult days. There is always hope.

Managing Your Experience of Medical Trauma Step 1 by @drbarbaralouw.
No pain is insignificant. Suffering is universal.
Many people are too quick to say that "no matter what you are going through, someone has it worse" or "there is always someone with bigger problems". It is emotionally dismissive and conveys the message that your struggle is insignificant and that you are overreacting...my concern is, how is the situation affecting you?

Medical trauma can leave you feeling voiceless. You didn’t choose the earth-shattering diagnoses – you had a stroke, you have cancer, you need an amputation – you could die. Medical personnel speak in their terminology, and you feel lost. Suddenly, you don’t seem to understand the meaning of common words, and the world becomes an overwhelming, too-loud place. Supporting A Loved One 101
Sometimes silence is welcome.
The trauma of an adverse medical diagnosis such as cancer brings an awkward wordlessness because it feels like there are no words to describe what happened. There are not enough words to describe what is on in one’s mind, emotions or body. In a single moment, life changes forever.
