Hey guys, I know there are already a lot of these, but I figured I’d put this out there as homemade masks are becoming more and more necessary, and I’ve been told this is a pretty good mask. I hope everyone is staying as safe as possible. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO IS WORKING RIGHT NOW.
Cotton fabric means anything from quilting fabric to a t-shirt. Here is really good explanation on how to make your own bias tape without a bias tape maker: https://theseamanmom.com/how-to-make-bias-tape/
Tip I learned after putting the instructions together: folding the middle pleat first makes spacing MUCH easier.

Excerpt from my new fic
Since I’m stuck at home in for the foreseeable future, I’ve decided to actually write something. Hopefully I can get the first chapter onto AO3 soon, but we’ll see how everything goes. Let me know if you like it. I love me some constructive criticism.
The two boys in the story are Chad Taylor and Vince Reynolds from Super Powereds by Drew Hayes. I’m trying to write it so you don’t have to have read Super Powereds to completely understand the story.
Bruce took a long breath. He pressed the call button, and lifted the phone to his ear. It dialed one, twice, then an over-energetic voice picked up on the other side, “Bruce? Everything okay? You never call me. Actually you tend to avoid talking to any of us outside of you-know-what if you can. Everything okay?”
“Barry,” Bruce let out a tired sigh, “Are you available to talk?” He asked this question out of courtesy, and not because he actually wanted to know. It was Barry’s lunch right now, so he had plenty of time.
“Yeah, I’m on lunch right now. Did you want me to come over, or—”
“The phone is fine,” Bruce interrupted.
There was amusement in Barry’s voice when he answered, “Okay, gotcha. What’s up, Bruce?”
Bruce sighed. This wasn’t exactly something he’d done before. But he was out of his depth, and he needed to bite the bullet. “I need some parenting advice?”
“What?” Barry laughed, “I think I misheard you. It sounded like you, the father of who-knows-how-many, asked me, a childless man, for parenting advice.”
“You have more experience with this particular situation than—quite literally—anybody else I know,” Bruce ground out, “So I would appreciate it if you took this seriously.”
“Holy shit. Bruce, did you take in a meta-teen?”
Bruce closed his eyes, “Yes. And no, not exactly. At least, they don’t call themselves that. They’re not…from…here.”
“Meta-teens?”
“Yes.”
There was a few seconds of silence on the line. Long enough for Barry to thoroughly puzzle out Bruce’s words. Long enough that Bruce was actually worried that Barry had decided to run to the manor after all. When Barry eventually answered, his voice was serious, “Bruce. Are you planning on sending them home?”
“Yes. That is the plan. I was going to ask you for help with that too, once I knew more about their home dimension. But more immediately, I need to know how to keep them from blowing up every lightbulb in the kitchen by accident.”
“I cannot believe this.”
“Barry…”
“What the hell, Bruce! How many of them did you even take? Four? Five?”
“Two. And I didn’t take them. I have no way of entering an alternate universe on my own. They appeared in Gotham.”
“Okay,” Barry answered immediately, “Most meta outbursts are related to overwhelming emotions and lack of training. How old are they?”
“Both thirteen. One of them has training, but he’s spent most of his life switching off his emotions to make himself ‘more efficient’. When he turns them on, he doesn’t know how to cope with them, and if he’s angry he gets violent. The other can’t control his power at all. It’s triggered whenever he gets too emotional, but according to the boys, he wasn’t born with the capacity to even learn to control his ability.”
“Damn. That’s a handful. Have you tried some meditations? At least for the emotionally stunted one?”
“I…No.”
“Try meditations. Also—least with Wally—exercise was always a solid bet. Not training exercises, at least not serious training. Like, sometimes if Wally gets angry, he will just go for a run.”
Bruce thought about it for a second. His own boys often used exercise as an outlet. Usually it was training, though, and Bruce wasn’t sure an obsession with perfection was a healthy coping mechanism. But convincing Chad to go for a run when he got frustrated didn’t sound like a bad idea. “Okay. Exercise should be a good outlet for Chad,” Bruce said, taking a long breath, “Any advice for Vince?”
“Vince is the one who can’t control his power?”
“Yes.”
There was another long silence. Almost five seconds this time. Eventually Barry swallowed and asked, “How dangerous is he?”
Bruce grimaced. Vince had been very clear that his ability could cause statewide black outs and start wildfires when at its worst. He could burn a person alive, or electrocute them. The shattered light bulbs were nothing in comparison to the damage he could do. The explosion in the restaurant wall was nothing. “Extraordinarily dangerous. To himself, and others.”
Another couple seconds of silence, and Bruce was starting to get antsy. Barry said, “I feel sick even suggesting this, but it sounds like his power is more of a disability than a gift. You could…give him an inhibitor collar.”
It was Bruce’s turn to be silent. He’d heard how painful it was for a meta to wear an inhibitor collar. He’d seen for himself how desperate and anxious Barry became when he had to wear one. Would it have the same effect on Vince? There was a possibility that Vince’s anxiety would decrease with the knowledge that he was no longer in danger.
It wasn’t an option Bruce had let himself consider before, because the idea of inhibitor collars on kids just seemed synonymous with child abuse to him. Especially the ones with the shock function. But he’d never encountered a meta who couldn’t learn how to control their abilities with enough training. “I’ll consider it,” Bruce finally said, “But it’s not a viable long term solution.”
“I agree. God, do I agree with that,” Barry said, “But if you wind up keeping them for a long time, genetic surgeries have really advanced in the past few years.”
“This situation is a little unprecedented,” Bruce said, “But I’ll keep it in mind.”
“Okay, Bruce. My lunch is almost over. I’m going to check in later, though. Maybe Wally and I could drop at some point.”
“Arrange that with Alfred,” Bruce said, “It might be good for the boys to meet some of our Earth’s meta-humans.”

Idk if this has been done yet. I know there's a lot of stuff along these lines, but I've never read this specifically:
A fic where young Tim Drake, who is still in his stalking Batman and Robin phase, gets caught in the middle of a battle and winds up in an alternate universe.
At this point, he realizes something is different, but isn't quite sure what. He decides that the battle was enough excitement for one night, and he heads on home.
But...when he get's home, his parents are there. At first he panics, but manages to give a passable excuse as to why he is not home at midnight. His parents have other concerns. They wind up calling the cops because a little kid they don't know just broke into their house.
Tim thinks through various possibilities (including that they've just decided they don't want him as a son anymore) before he realizes that they genuinely don't recognize him. He runs before the cops get there.
Tim has nothing at this point. It's too late to find a shelter that's still open. He goes back into the city and simply wanders around for the night. He sticks to the rooftops for safety's sake.
By the time morning hits, he's beginning to notice how hungry he is. He does have some cash on him that he usually gives out during his nightly escapades, so he is able to buy himself a decent meal. He considers going to a shelter that day, but decides it is too risky if his parents still have the cops looking for him. He doesn't sleep that night either.
On the third night, he sits down to rest in a book on a rooftop just for a few minutes...and passes out. He wakes up to a stranger in a red helmet shaking his shoulder.
...
Red Hood finds a kid passed out on a rooftop. The kid has no idea who Red Hood is. Until Nightwing calls Red Hood "Little Wing".
And then the kid chokes on the food they gave him, and yells, "Jason?!"
That's when they call Bruce. And of course, Bruce can't resist the urge to adopt all the traumatized orphans. Especially one's who know his secret identity already.

An AU where the Justice League organizes all hero training. Batman goes OFF about how even Bruce Wayne cannot afford to pay for every single building Superman destroys without insurance... and the only way any insurance company is going to insure against heroes is if they know heroes have been trained to minimize damage. And, like, making sure all heroes are well trained and can actually do their jobs is the morally correct decision.
So the story follows the JLA as they establish a stupidly intense hero training program for anybody who wants to join them. Not everybody will be able to pass. In fact, very few will. The first trainees? Their kids, of course.
Batman teaches stealth and investigstion.
Wonder Woman teaches close combat and history.
Green Arrow teaches ranged combat.
Superman teaches all things to do with relating to the public: secret identities, press releases, using social media to help your image, etc.
Aquaman teaches water operations.
The Flash teaches technology and battle tactics.
Black Canary is the psychologist available to all trainees.
After school each day, a bunch of teenagers (not exclusive to canonical sidekicks) gather in Mount Justice for superhero school. They aren't allowed on missions until they pass their multiple-years-long training and graduate (that doesnt mean they won't have to defend themselves from attacks, though).
Over the summers, they live at Mount Justice and do some apprenticing under established heroes.
Anyone have more ideas?

A Mandalorian xover:
Bruce is a Mandalorian, all of the Robins are his foundlings. Maybe they meet Din Djaren and Baby Yoda. Maybe there's a little romance between the two dads?
Dick was a part of a circus that traveled planet to planet. It stopped on Tatooine for a performance, and when it wouldn't pay protection money to the Hutts, it was attacked. Bruce found Dick and hid him before anyone realized he was still alive.
Jason tried to strip some of Bruce's ship for parts while the Mandalorian was on a job. When Bruce realized the thief was just a kid who had no where to go back too, he decided to keep him.
You might have to get creative with Tim. Maybe Bruce spent a long time in Tim's city and the kid started stalking the man. Tim might've run away from neglectful parents. Maybe he lies to Bruce when Bruce asks about his parents, telling him he's an orphan.
Damian is another one you can have some fun with. I feel like he would fit into the discipline of the Mandalorian culture very well, but he's definitely colder and more cut-throat, at least initially. I think it would be cool if he were still Bruce's biological son, but I would need to do some thinking on what Damian and Talia's background is.

I’m working on a universe where I reimagine the DC Universe into a cyberpunk world (similar to Marvel 2099) When it comes to Aquaman and Wonder Woman, I’m having trouble. So my question is: Do you think there are certain characters that simply don’t work when it comes to reimagining?
It all depends on what tone you want your world to carry. You might have to tweak certain characters a little more than others to get them to fit. Those two characters are a little out there even in the DC universe, as far as backstories and everyday duties go. Maybe in a reimagined universe, they also stand out a bit because of that? I try not to drop characters just because its tricky to fit them in. I see it as a fun challenge, but that's just my opinion. Does anyone else have thoughts?

SUPER POWEREDS BY DREW HAYES
LISTEN UP
You want super heroes? You want found family?  You want LGBT+ rep without it being the defining feature of the characters? Nerd references galore? How about college aged characters acting like college aged people? Realistic consequences for the characters’ actions? Sibling love?
A structured, believable, and diverse super hero universe? Do you want an ensemble of dynamic growing characters? Characters that learn, grow-up, and turn over prejudices they previously held? A plot that will have you screaming in your car as you listen to the (astounding) audiobooks during your commute? Writing that will have you pausing to appreciate its beauty?
Super Powereds has it all.
The powers are unique and surprising, and the system work much more like an ordered magic system than the unmitigated chaos that usually surrounds super powers.
Here’s the synopsis:
“Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop student with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.
Five of this year’s freshmen are extra special. They have a secret aside from their abilities, one that they must guard from even their classmates. Because for every one person in the world with abilities they can control, there are three who lack such skill. These lesser super beings, Powereds as they are called, have always been treated as burdens and second class citizens. Though there has been ample research in the area, no one has ever succeeded in turning a Powered into a regular human, let alone a Super.
That is, until now…“
Don’t forget to read Corpies, the spin-off set between Super Powereds: Year 3, and Super Powereds: Year 4.
Kyle McCarley narrates the audiobooks. He provides some of the best voice acting I’ve heard in audiobook narrations to date. It’s pretty magical listening to the audiobooks.
THEY’RE CHEAP TOO! The first two books are $3.99 on kindle, and the second two are $5.99.
The first book is 227,795 words long.
The second book is 180,000 words.
The third book is 356,700 words.
And the fourth book is a whopping 527,365 words long.
Super Powereds was originally written as a web series. Meaning, it reads extremely similar to how a fanfiction reads. The platform allowed for deeper character development and more time to explore the universe. You get to see the angst, and the adorable everyday interactions that make or break a story.
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW COOL THIS SERIES IS. As the characters and plot develop, hand in hand, it gets even better. Each book is better than the last, and leaves you wanting more.
And don’t even get me started on the spin-off, Corpies. It’s packed full of dad friend moments, dream following, adventure, extremely adorable romance, etc.
Just. Go read it.

While working together, all four Robins are beaten to a pulp by a new villain. Tim fights against unconciousness with all his willpower, but eventually, it overtakes him. When Tim wakes up, he's slumped over in a cart with his hands bound, wearing rags he doesn't remember putting on.
A few glances at his surroundings reveal the alarming truth that he is no longer on his Earth. At least, no longer somewhere he recognizes on his Earth. Instead, he's been thrown into some fantasy world (of course, he doesn't know quite how fantastical it is yet).
The other prisoners on the cart are a nostalgic man with long blonde hair, a horse thief, and a gagged man wearing furs. The blonde man says he was caught in an ambush. Tim keeps his mouth shut, worried his accent or something he says will give away how out of place he really is.
Later, after the dragon attacks and he escapes Helgen, he turns his focus to hunting down his brothers. After all, if he was dropped in this strange world, there was a strong chance they had been as well.
The whole "Dragonborn" thing was an inconvenience.

The Justice League isn't organized. The heroes definitely aren't government sanctioned. When they band together they are strong (terrifyingly so, according to some), but when seperated they are less formidable. The government doesn't like it, so they make it their mission to track down and capture all of the vigilantes. That includes the sidekicks as well.
Once they capture them all, the government decides that it would be a shame to let all of this potential information go to waste. They start experimenting on them. The Flashes and the speed force, the Kryptonians and their physiology, the Lanterns and their weapons, and Bats and their... whatever it is they do. They've got to have something, right?
(Even the other heroes don't know what the Bats can or cannot do. It's a mystery everyone's curious about.)
They're there for a long time. The experiments aren't exactly fun, and sometimes they're down right traumatizing. The Bats get the worst of it, probably because nobody knows what to test for. The sidekicks are stored closer to eachother because they're seen as less of a threat than their older counterparts. Nightwing limps back to his flock of teenagers each day with a positive attitude just for them.
Individually, everyone is plotting plans to escape, but the sidekicks are the only ones with any freedom and opportunity to put those plans into motion. But when the teens (and young adults) finally enact their escape, something goes horribly wrong. Like, whoops-we-just-opened-an-interdimensional-portal wrong. A group of the younger heroes winds up in a strange dimension where the Justice League is sanctioned and it has sworn off employing underaged heroes. Nightwing, Wally West, and some more older ones have their work cut out for them in this new world. They have to house, feed, and care for a group of physically and emotionally abused and experimented upon superpowered teenagers. It doesn't take as long as they'd like for the JLA to take notice of their large family.
When the unfamiliar JLA finally confronts them, there is a whole lot of explaining to do.

Bruce is "dead." Lost in time, but nobody knows it. The batfamily does the only thing they can do, and move on with their lives. Dick takes up the mantle, Damian becomes Robin, never having gotten to know his father. Tim takes over WE, but struggles with his feelings of abandonment. Jason is Jason.
A while later, something interesting happens. Batman stops a couple of smaller muggings in the Red Hood's territory. Not all that strange on it's own, but Jason is bitter, so he hunts down Dick one night to chew him out for it. Dick insists he hasn't been to that part of Gotham for a month. Together, the two older brothers realize something is amiss.
They enlist Tim's help to hunt down the copycat in his civilian identity. It proves particularly difficult because, in Tim's words, "The dude just doesn't exist, sorry."
When that doesn't pan out, the batfam tracks him down physically. Jason catches him performing yet another good deed and engages him. The copycat is a really good fighter... and when he thinks about it, Jason recognizes the style too. Raw experience wins over, and Jason manages to cuff and disarm the copycat. When he demasks the fake vigilante, he's more than a little shaken.
Its Bruce. But not their Bruce. A young, new Batman from an alternate dimension who got in over his head when he faced an enemy who could wield boom tubes. A Bruce who left for his training around the world earlier, and returned sooner. He's only eighteen.
With Dick and Jason both older than him by years, and Tim only a year younger, the family struggles with what to do with their new charge. They have no way of sending him back... and he seems to be getting along with Damian really well...
