Corset WIP - swipe to see the steps! This was a slight challenge as it was my first corset cover to make. I ended up putting my corset on a body form in order to make a pattern with muslin off of it first. This allowed me to make true measurements unlike if I had laid it flat on a table since the corset has built in curves. I only pinned muslin to half of the corset since the two sides are built identical and I can just turn over and double the pattern. Once I had the strips drawn and pinned, I used the muslin pattern to trace out and cut the red and white fabric. Starting on my next cosplay! Female Tony Stark! I am super excited about this one because he is one of my favorite Avengers (although it is really hard to choose!!) I am making the Arc Reactor that ends up poisoning him with palladium. I am using a mason jar lid as the base (scratching the label off in order to not have any black shine through - just the metal which amplified the led lights) as well as a battery operated blue EL wire and EVA foam. I have secured the EL wire using hot glue. My next steps will be to pretty up the EVA foam, paint it, and then attach it. Wip of my kaylee cosplay! I still have to draw on the kanji and do a little staining but so far she's come out great! . . The sewing for this cosplay was fairly easy, No crazy patterns, just bring in the seams and cutting out the extra fabric that remained. . Also fun fact about this cosplay! I didn't own a sewing machine for for first two photos! May the 4th be with you!!! #starwarsday Rey’s staff was a pretty easy prop build, all things considered. I ended up using PVC pipe for the base to build off of. I got PVC pipe caps for the top and bottom so as to close off the ends and not scratch the floors. I used two types of black electrical tape to build some of the smaller thinner bands, as well as to make more seamless transitions for the other materials. I used empty pill bottles - cutting off the bottom to make a tube - to provide more dimension and bulk at the top, and then a phone cord to make the coil look at the bottom. The fins were made with hot glue and cardboard (and also really easy to replace if they get banged up at a con or in transport). Tip for cosplay tattoos and skin art! . . Use a liquid eyeliner pen when doing tattoos for cosplay. If you get a waterproof pen the makeup won't smudge after it dries. Another good that's comes with using an eyeliner pen is you get cleaner lines then when working with a paintbrush and skin paint!
