Honey will never spoil but crystallization is a natural process. Crystallization may make honey appear opaque or cloudy especially if there is a high amount of pollen in it. Some beekeepers will harvest honey from brood boxes on purpose to produce this quality of a product. This honey came from a hive that didn't make it through the winter. 2 weeks and 353 growing degree days later. Growing degree days is a summation of heat based on daily high and low average temperature. Calculating growing degree days can help growers predict plant maturity and when to expect harvests. It can also help with interpreted lest management practices as well. This is the split I made from a hive I had that was raising queens. I simply removed the frames with queen cells along with frames containing brood, honey, pollen and (of course) BEES! Ideally it's best to remove the queen from the host hive and leave a few queen cells behind but I just could not locate her for the life of me. I feel somewhat confident she's in there still because of the amount of fresh eggs that were present including eggs recently laid in queen cells. Today's agenda includes thinning through 96 tomato plants and transplanting them so they can be moved outside.
