Hi,
Not a skincare related post but still very important. There hasn’t been much coverage relating to Hurricane Eta that impacted Central America recently. I’m originally from Northern Honduras which has been severely impacted by flooding. Family that I have living there is okay, but I know someone people that are not. Lives have been lost and several homes as well. It would mean a lot to me and even more to Hondurans impacted by the storm if you could donate and/or share.

Hey, im pretty crazy abt skincare too but a month ago, my skin started going absolutely mental (it was FINALLY clear of everything but some pih). At first i thought it was purging but then i realised it might have been me ruining my skin barrier and a sign of it is breakouts. I started only doing niacinamide and moisturiser and cleanser but it still wouldnt go away. Its been this way for a month now. My skin was only only ever this bad BEFORE skincare was a thing for me
Hi,
Thank you for your submission.
I know exactly what that feels like because it’s happened to me before.
A couple weeks ago I was doing my normal routine of using vitamin c and a benzoyl peroxide wash in the morning and then using a benzoyl peroxide wash and retinol at night, alternating with an AHA. My skin was glowing. It looked better than ever and then suddenly I breakout like crazy. Huge, red, painful pimples and whiteheads all over my face. I have no idea why this happened.
What I usually do when I over do it, is the same as you. I really take a step back in my routine and bring it back to the basics and slowly reintroduce actives into my routine.
My skin is back to healthy and I limit it to only one or two active ingredients. In the morning I use vitamin c and a benzoyl peroxide wash. At night I use retinol. I haven’t used a chemical exfoliant in weeks. I just haven’t needed to. I do shave my face though, which is a form of exfoliating.
As far as why this happens to us? The causes are endless.
Our skin has a delayed reaction to skin care products or ingredients and it takes days or weeks for it to show up on our skin
Eating poorly
Poor sleep
Cleansing improperly
Your pillow case needs to be changed
Being stressed or other hormonal factors
Clogged pores
Dehydrated skin
Over exfoliation
Sun damage
A change in weather
There’s really no bad guess as to why.
The best I can say is be kind to your skin and really try to listen to what it wants. The solution could be as simple as adding a hydrating toner or as complex as you’ve become allergic to an ingredient in your cleanser. These are just examples of course.
If you can’t find a solution, your best bet would be to see an esthetician or dermatologist.
But to try to avoid these breakouts I highly suggest patch testing products, only introducing one product at a time and is it for a few weeks to see if your skin likes it, focusing on skin hydration and moisture, and decreasing exfoliant usage.
But most importantly. Wear a sunscreen. So many skin issues can be avoided and reduced with proper sun protection.
I know I didn’t exactly answer your question. But frankly it’s hard to say. Also I’m not a professional, just a boy who like to read ingredient labels lol

I have really bad acne how do I stop it
Hi,
Thank you for submitting a question!
I’m going to assume you’re referring to regular acne/teen acne for the sake of answering your question. If you have a different type of acne such as hormonal or cystic acne this won’t be too helpful. And if you’re unsure of what type of acne you have, my best advice is to see a dermatologist or esthetician.
You want to make sure you have a good basic skincare routine to start. This includes a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. You must have these if you want healthy skin. Your cleanser is responsible for washing away excess sebum (which are oils in your skin), dirt, and other impurities, which if left on the skin can cause acne. A moisturizer keeps your skin moisturized. A lot skin issues can be resolved by simply moisturizing (including acne), so don’t skip out. Sunscreen is the most important step in your routine. It protects your skin and helps prevent wrinkles and acne from worsening
To treat common ance you want to use acne fighting ingredients. I have a post listing ingredients that fight acne (link here). My favorite ingredients for treating acne are retinol and benzoyl peroxide. These happen to work the best for my skin and fit into my routine. There are also other ingredients such as salicylic acid, azelaic acid, or sulfur that fight acne as well.
Acne fighting ingredients come in several forms. I have a list of products that could be helpful for you (link here). A acne cleanser is a great place to start. CeraVe has a salicylic acid cleanser and PanOxyl has a Benzoyl Peroxide Creamy Wash. Both are great and clear acne quickly. They also help prevent acne if used regularly. You can use this in place of your regular cleanser or switch it out as tolerated. I’d use either in the mornings. You could also pair it with a retinol at night. I like La Roche’s Posay’s Adapalene Gel. Follow up with a moisturizer and in the mornings use a sunscreen.
Example of a Good Acne Skincare Routine
Morning
Cleanse and Treat with Panoxyl’s Creamy Wash
Moisturize with Clinique’s Moisture Surge
Protect skin with Purito’s Green Level SPF 50 PA++++ sunscreen
Evening
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cleanser
Moisturize with Clinique’s Moisture Surge
Treat with La Roche Posay Adapalene
This is just an example of a good routine. It doesn’t have to be exact, but it’s a good template to take inspiration from.
Be kind to yourself and your skin. Acne is normal. You are beautiful with and without acne.
I answered this to best of my ability. I hope I was helpful! If you or anyone else has more questions or needs clarification, please submit a question!

Review of Rovectin Skin Essentials Activating Treatment Lotion
Tumblr media
I was sent this product for free as part of Wishtrend’s Beauty Tester Program at the beginning of this month
About The Product:
Price:
$29 for 6.1oz or 180ml on Wishtrend
Claims:
This product claims to hydrate the skin for a plump appearance, moisturize, provide anti aging benefits, even skin texture, and neutralize free radicals
Texture and Smell:
It has a thick water consistency, is clear, and smells medicinal. It feels tacky after applied.
Ingredients:
Water, glycerin, methyl gluceth-20, pentylene glycol, butylene glycol, niacinamide, sorbitol, adenosine, caffeine, sodium hyaluronate, allantoin, panthenol, arginine, hyaluronic acid, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, centella asiatica extract, glycine soja (soybean) sprout extract, carica papaya (papaya) fruit extract, 1,2-hexanediol, sodium pca, acrylates/c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, hydroxyethylcellulose, trehalose, sodium polyglutamate, hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, sodium acetylated hyaluronate, potassium hyaluronate, sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer, disodium edta
Key Ingredients And Benefits:
Glycerin is hydrating
Niacinamide helps with evening texture, anti aging, and balancing oils
Hyaluronic Acid helps draw water into the skin
Licorice Root Extract helps even skin tone
Soybean Extract helps brighten skin tone
Papaya Fruit Extract slightly exfoliates
How I Use It:
I use this twice a day after my lighter toners and before a serum and apply about 3 or for drops of it to my face and neck. I only apply one layer. I also apply this at night, about 4 drops, on areas of my body that need hydration and brightening (thighs, chest, and back).
My Opinion:
I was so excited when I received this product because it has licorice root and soybean extracts. These ingredients help with brightening and I’ve never tried them before. I can’t really say that this product specifically helped with my hyperpigmentation because I was using other skin brightening products alongside it (Vitamin C, Retinol, and AHA’s), but I did see a more even skin tone since I started using it. It also didn’t help with my texture, but I wasn’t expecting it to, since there aren’t any potent exfoliators. Where this product truly shines is in skin hydration and moisturization. I’ve never used a more moisturizing toner before. It moisturizes like a lotion since it’s so thick, as the name claims (I still used a moisturizer). It’s also very hydrating. My skin feels plump instantly and it definitely helps keep my skin from getting dehydrated. I’ve enjoyed it so far this fall, but I see it working even better in the winter months. I only use one layer as of now because I have oily skin. I think this would be great for layering in the winter or all year round for drier skin types. I gladly recommend this as an everyday toner and look forward to trying out more cosmetics from Rovectin and Wishtrend.

I was sent this product for free, but I am not being paid for a review.

Review of The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA
Tumblr media
I purchased this over 6 months ago I believe. I’ve used it on and off, but more recently have been using it once or twice a week as part of my twice a week chemical exfoliant treatment.
About the Product:
Price:
$6.80 on Sephora
Claims:
Solves uneven skin tone, texture, and dullness. As well as fine lines and wrinkles.
Texture:
It’s a very light serum. It sinks into the skin so quickly. I’d say it disappears faster than water and has a light pinkish or orange hue due to the tasmanian pepperberry.
Ingredients:
Water, Lactic Acid, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Potassium Citrate, Arginine, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit/leaf Extract, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Ethyl 2,2-Dimethylhydrocinnamal, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol.
Key Ingredients And Benefits:
Lactic acid is an exfoliant, AHA, and helps in skin hydration
Glycerin is a humectant that aids skin hydration
Sodium Hyaluronate provides moisture
Tasmannia Lanceolata is anti inflammatory and soothing
How I Use It:
I tend to use this once or twice a week. I use chemical exfoliants twice a week. Sometimes I’ll use a BHA once and this or use this twice a week. I do this after I cleanse and use a toner and/or an essence, but before a moisturizer at night and ONLY at night. However, you can use this after a moisturizer if you’re starting out in order to reduce skin penetration and irritancy. I started out by using 3 drops and moved up to 6 and now i can use a dropper full. It can burn and sting a bit, but it should go away quickly and if it doesn’t you should wash it off. Make sure you use a sunscreen after using this because it’s removing dead skin, therefore making your skin more vulnerable to sun damage (aging, burning, and skin cancer).
My Opinion:
I absolutely love this product and for many reasons. It’s affordable at only $7 and lasts a really long time. It’s very effective. It does what it claims. I have an undeniable glow the morning after I use this. My skin feels a lot smoother and softer as well. It’s not a temporary fix. This delivers long lasting results with consistent use. It really helps control my oiliness as well. I think it’s due to it helping decongest my pores or perhaps it's the extra hydration this provides. I’ve never had a problem with this being drying, even though its a powerful peel. It does make my skin brighter and more even. I have a few dark spots and it’s help fade them noticeably, though, I have one that is being very resistant at the moment. I enjoy the packaging. It’s simple and looks clinical. It’s easy to travel with too. I’ve never had it spill and closes very tightly. It sinks into my skin so quickly, so I have to work a bit fast, but I don’t mind at all. It can burn a bit, but it subsides quickly. I’ve enjoyed using it so far and will continue to do so. I’d definitely recommend this product. It’s gentle enough to not harm my skin, but potent enough to deliver the results I desire.

I’m 20. Should I start using anti ageing cream?
Sorry for the late reply! I just saw this. Thanks for submitting a question.
There’s not a set age that one must be to start using anti aging products. It’s up the individual to decide.
A lot of anti aging products serve more than just treating fine lines and wrinkles. For example vitamin a, or retinol, is a well researched anti aging ingredient, but it can also help treat acne, dark spots, and provide gentle exfoliation.
If you’re starting to see fine lines and wrinkles form or already have them and you’d like to reverse those signs of aging, yes, use an anti aging product.
If you’d like to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, yes I think it would be beneficial to start using an anti aging product. You probably won’t see a difference, but it could help in the long run. It’s not at all necessary though.
If you want to treat other skin issues, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, or uneven texture. Yes, use an anti aging product that will also target your problems. Such as vitamin a, b3, and c.
The most important anti aging product you NEED to use is sunscreen. Sun damage is responsible for 90% of premature aging. The sun is also responsible for skin cancer and most skin issue.
Maintaining a healthy diet, excercising, and getting enough sleep will effect how your skin ages more than any topical treatment (sunscreen being the exception, also retinol) so really focus on that as well.
I hope I answered your question! And if not sorry about that and feel free to reach out again.

How do you figure out what skin type you have
Hello,
Thanks for the question!
For me it was really easy to figure out my skin type because I produce enough oil on my face to deep fry a large chicken. That being said, I do understand it might not be as easy for everyone.
I think a good way to find out what your skin type is would be to wash your face with a gentle cleanser, rinse it off, and let your face air dry for about an hour.
If your skin start to look oily, shiny, and slick to the touch after an hour, you may have oily skin.
If your skin feels tight, dry, maybe even flaky or rough to the touch, you may have dry skin.
If your skin seems to be neither over greasy or dry, you may have balanced skin, better known as normal skin.
You could also have a combination of all 3 or 2 skin types on different parts of your skin.
I answered your question to the best of my skincare knowledge. If you need further information feel free to ask!

Why does everyone say you need to wear sunscreen even if you're bot going outside? (Sunscreen recommendations?????)
Hello,
Thank you for submitting a question!
You still need to wear sunscreen indoors because UVA rays can pass through windows and walls. It’s especially important to wear sunscreen if you have a darker skin type because UVA causes hyperpigmentation (dark spots) on our skin. UVA is also responsible for premature aging. For indoors you don’t need a high spf or even a water resistant sunscreen but also won’t hurt.
As far as sunscreen recommendations I’ve lately been enjoying Canmake Tokyo Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++ and Papa Recipie Honey Moist Sun Essence SPF 50+ PA+++. Both are combination sunscreens. Meaning they have organic and inorganic sunscreen filters. The Cannake doubles as a make up primer and has no fragrance or alcohol. The Papa Recipe does have alcohol and fragrance. I find that both don’t leave a white cast on my skin.
I hope I answered your questions to your liking and if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Review of I’m From Rice Toner
Tumblr media
I’m finishing up this bottle I bought from YesStyle since March of this year
About the Product
Price:
The price varies, but it costs about $25 on YesStyle.
Claims:
The product claims to give the skin a glow, even skin tone, moisturize, and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Texture:
It’s lightweight, sinks into the skin quickly, and feels like water. It doesn’t smell like anything as well.
Ingredients:
Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract (77.78%), Methylpropanediol, Triethylhexanoin, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Niacinamide, Pentylene Glycol, Portulaca Oleracea (Green Purslane) Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Amaranthus Caudatus (Love Lies Bleeding) Seed Extract, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Water, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Butylene Glycol, Adenosine, Cellulose Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol
Key Ingredients & Benefits
Rice is at the highest concentration 77.78% for brightening
Niacinamide for brightening, evening skin tone, anti aging, balancing oil production
Green Purslane is an antioxidant (fights free radicals) and soothing
Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract is an emollient that keeps water in the skin
Pentylene Glycol is moisturizing
Adenosine can help sooth, protect, and repair the skin
How I Use It:
I use this as my first step after cleansing in the morning or night, sometimes at both times. I also like to layer it up to three times, a few drops (about 5) for each layer. I sometimes even using after shaving my face and it does not burn, so if you have sensitive or irritated skin, it’s safe to use.
My Opinion:
Despite it being thin as water, I can feel a noticeable boost of hydration immediately upon use. I believe it does help my skin glow because of this. It definitely helps with brightening and evening out skin tone thanks to the rice and niacinamide. The rice is at an incredibly high percentage. This shows that I’m From really does care about the effectiveness of their product. I can’t really speak about it being anti aging because I don’t have fine lines or wrinkles, and even if I did there isn’t much research to back these claims (that I’m aware of). I’d rather use a retinol for anti aging, which I do. I love the packaging as well. It’s glass. It’s beautiful and heavy. It feels and looks expensive (maybe because it kind of is) on my shelf. This isn’t a necessary product but if you’d like a boost of hydration and help with hyperpigmentation, this might be for you. I already have a second bottle and convinced my mom to try it for herself (she’s liking it so far). For these reasons I love this product, will keep repurchasing, and definitely recommend it.

H-Hi can u teach me a skincare 😔
You’ll have to be more specific but the best place to start is by following a basic routine.
1. Oil based cleanser followed by a water based cleanser
2. Moisturizer
3. Sunscreen, preferably water resistant
You can incorporate other steps but these are the must have steps for healthy skin.

Skin Care Products with Acne Treating Ingredients
Recently I posted a guide on acne fighting ingredients to look for when shopping (link to that post) and these are products that have those great ingredients!
PanOxyl Foaming Acne Wash
CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser
The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Acne + Pore Cleanser
The Inkey List Retinol Anti-Aging Serum
The Inkey List Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) Blemish + Blackhead Serum
The Inkey List Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Toner
The Inkey List Kaolin Mask
SOME BY MI AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant
CeraVe Renewing SA Face Cleanser
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%
The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment
It is super important that if you use ANY of the products in this list that you use a sunscreen because many of these ingredients make your skin photosensitive (sensitive to sunlight) and will only worsen your acne and post acne marks and scars (hyperpigmentation).
Link to summer sunscreen favorites!
There are of course plenty of other great products with great ingredients. This list is just a few that I’m familiar with. DON’T use all of these products together for treating your acne. Also many of these products come in various strengths. Use lower percentages if you have sensitive skin and/or a new to the selected ingredient. You can use higher percentages as your skin acclimates to new ingredients, or continuing with the same percentage if you’re seeing results.
I am not an esthetician, dermatologist, or licensed professional. Do your own research and/or consult your dermatologist or esthetician before choosing a product that will suit your skincare needs.
