For anyone curious. Thank you @daughterofthemoon20 ☺️☺️
Is sparxshipping toxic?
I’m not sure what sparxed it but I just started to think about the, debatably, infamous ship between Bloom and Valtor. And while this is a strange post to suddenly come back with (hah, assuming I even stay active after this) I might as well ride the sudden jump in interest.
Also, take this as a revision to my past (cringey) opinion on the ship. Quite honestly, I need to revisit a lot of those older posts (should I call them editorials? analysis maybe? Idfk I’ll come up with a name for them later) Dear God, they are so bad and poorly thought out urghhh
Anyways…

I think it’s more about the fact that they’re poorly design and repetitive, none of them have original outfits anymore they’re all just copies. And even though it is feminine, they were still unique designs that fit the personality of the character.
But let’s be honest, Musa and Tecna have always been a little girly even if it wasn’t as much as the others (Tecna literally wears a bodysuit and heels like come on). The series is for girls, young girls, and is about making femininity of all styles powerful. But if they’re all the same style, then it makes it seem like there’s only one way to not only be feminine but also to be powerful.
Tumblr media
“I don’t get the Winx fandom hates the transformations of the newer Seasons became more girly. But they absolutely love the Enchantix transformation which is very traditionally feminine.” -Anon

It’s because he never told her nor acknowledged it. Like sure, maybe not technically cheating, but he was still spoken for and legally (? Idk how it works in the fairy world) with someone else.
Bloom never got the decision of whether or not she’d romantically engage with someone in his position because he never said a thing. So at best it’s a lack of communication, at worst it’s cheating.
So while he might’ve never had a choice, neither did Bloom.
Tumblr media
“I don’t really get why Sky is accused of cheating on Bloom. While he didn’t even love Diaspro, and to my knowledge they weren’t even dating. Sky was basically forced to hang with her. It was an arranged marriage. This was out of Sky’s control. Did he really have any other choice?” -Anon

I rewatched Winx Club season 4 again. And I thought back on a old conversation I had and a inspiring idea from the amazing artist and writer @charmixpower .
What if it wasn't Nabu who sadly sacrificed himself during season 4. What if instead it was Timmy!
This idea has so much potential for great story ideas! Like we get to see Tecna handling the lost of the first man she had ever opened her self up to. To see Timmy slipp away and turn into dust! To see her face the mortality, lose conteol when Ogron takes her last gift and joins Nebula and the other earth fairies to hunt down the remaning wizards instead of Aisha.
And this idea would work. Because Aisha get to rest this season (Because let this poor girl rest! She has gone through enough drama and trauma since season 2! Let her rest this season!) and most important! Nabu dosen't die and dosen't get forgotten. That also shows he matters!
And see Tecna lose control and goes on a mission to end the wizards life! She would be ruthless because she would have no controll over her emotions and no longer use the light side of Technomagic!
She would use the dark and destuctive side of technomagic! She would be like the Terminator!
And when Ogron tries to asorb her fairy magic! It would hurt him! Because her magic is now toxic against anyone who is not Zenithian.
(MORE WILL COME)

MASTERLIST
A magic dimension is obviously going to be full of magical creatures. Fairies, witches, pixies (do specialists count as magical? To be discussed later), and several others. But what makes a fairy a fairy and a witch a witch? Aside from aesthetics and alignment, there’s always been a lack of information about the differences and makings of the various beings that exist in the magic realm. There’s also a lack of information about important beings like the Great Dragon, Daphne—nymphs in general frankly—, Faragonda, and many other people & events. Hell, no one can even tell how long the war against the Ancestral Witches lasted. Was it 16 years or over multiple centuries? Like seriously, why is Faragonda old as balls but the war started when she was a teen / young adult, but Bloom is only 16 and nobody remembers her or the war? (Even if she was born at the end of the war, that’s still not enough time for everyone to forget about it).
All I’ve been able to gather from the series is that witch magic is fueled by negative emotion & winx magic by positive emotions. But this isn’t always the case since, for example, when Bloom was infuriated because she thought Kikko was dead she released a massive amount of power. Call it a hunch, but I don’t think she was feeling very live-laugh-love in that moment. Though, you could argue her love for Kikko was the motivation even if the emotion was a negative one. Still, at the end of the day, she acted out in rage and not love.
And clearly, one’s form of magic can be changed, given Mirta became a fairy. Which I personally don’t like, she could’ve just been a good witch (which would help fight the stigma that they’re so adamant about keeping up until it’s convenient for the witches to help the good guys) but I get the school environment might’ve not been the best for her. It just sucks that the only reoccurring witch character we get are the Trix and then are expected to just accept that witches aren’t evil.
Given that Stella said Bloom was born with her powers and the city of Magix, especially the schools, don’t allow non-magical beings to enter. This has to mean the specialists are magical creatures. But the only magical thing they do is use their weapons (which I’m not even actually sure is magic or if it’s just advanced tech or both?) What specialists are is such a neglected topic I’m almost convinced they’re just regular dudes. Also, why are princes training the same way as knights or squires? Like yes, I get “military training” given Sky would lead the royal army if ever the occasion, but I would imagine there’s more to being a king than being able to fight. The princesses don’t ever get “military training” though I guess they do learn how to fight (I think, it at least looks like it) and change the color of their hair. A necessary skill to rule over a kingdom, surely.
I believe that all of their magic is the same but what they choose to do with it ultimately dictates what they end up becoming. But then that puts into question why are witches allowed to go to school? And what are any of them going to school for? Relating back to my previous rant “Cloud Tower | School of Terrorists” most of the Winx dubs have set up witches and their school to feed off negative emotion, not to mention have called most of them evil especially given the terrible deeds of the Ancestral Witches. But how does school function within the magic realm? Because in real life, it’s meant to prepare children for jobs or further education. This idea is never really explored, honestly, I think the fact that the girls are growing up and will soon leave Alfea is never really brought up (mind you I haven’t watched season 7, so maybe it is) since even once they’ve graduated they stay at the school to act as teachers. Which is cool and all, but eventually these girls have to move on. Stella, Aisha, & Bloom all have kingdoms to rule over and Tecna, Flora, & Musa have their own interests but this idea of growing up and moving on from school is never really talked about. And while I know most of my writing is about the actual writing of the series and not its influence on its audience, this idea would’ve been great for young girls to watch so they’re not so afraid of growing up and moving on. Because it’s inevitable and seeing your fictional idols experience that and overcome it, would make it less scary.
Tumblr media
Anyway, it’s unfortunate we don’t get to see what they learn from school often. We hardly see what the fairies learn, let alone the witches or specialists. And weirdly, for a show that heavily involves magical schools, we never see any arcs about school competitions, tournaments, festivals, or interactions with other schools. Even regular high schools have basketball or football games against other schools regularly. It’s just sad how little their school life actually makes an appearance in the series. Especially when it seems they’re either too scared or too lazy (perhaps even too uncreative) to let go of them being at Alfea.
I also wish we got to see more unique cases, similar to Mirta, of people who don’t fit the binary of witch, fairy, and specialist. Also we never really learn about other kinds of these species(?)/groups, like how there are nymphs and presumably an equivalent level for witches, not to mention there are also sorcerers. It’s even weirder given Nymph is the next level in terms of fairy magic and yet none of the main crew go on to learn how to become one? But also, what is a nymph? Like always it isn’t explained, saying they’re a stronger fairy isn’t much of an explanation.
Sometimes it makes me sad to write rants like this because it makes me realize that Winx was not as unique as I thought it was nor as in-depth as it could’ve been. I still love the series of course, but taking it apart and analyzing it like this has its consequences. Though in a way, it does motivate me more to add my own ideas and creations to the series, and I hope my ramblings and machinations are at the very least entertaining!

what is this account about?
It’s a Winx fan-blog where I basically just rant about my interpretations of the series and its characters, mostly of its story so I can, at some point, make a fix-it fic / comic. Sometimes the rants are just standalone and sometimes they are things I think could be changed whether or not because its bad or just because I have a different take. I also make posts to look into my designing or planning process (the character profiles & worldbuilding posts). I hope this helped!

Bloom is kind, quiet, and reserved, but hot-headed. She’s quick to socialize when given the chance, but for the most part she isn’t approached. Her closed off appearance, and messy, spiky red hair usually wards people off. So pre-Alfea, she tends to spend time alone drawing and taking walks, or helping her mother out at her flower shop.
She tends to be an over-thinker and quite emotional, but her negative feelings often blow over into anger or annoyance pushing her to take time for herself. At the beginning of the series she tends to be quite immature, not taking time to resolve conflicts and instead choosing to ignore it or blame others. Despite that, she has a strong knack for calling people out, often speaking harsh truths when it’s needed most.
As a kid she was always told stories about fairies, dragons, and knights by her father. But despite her father long since stopping in telling such bedtime stories, glimpses of fairies and peculiar encounters kept her belief strong even though she’s 16 years old. In school, this passionate belief would often get her in trouble with teachers or bullied by her peers. She doesn’t openly tell people her beliefs anymore, but some of her childhood classmates still make fun of her for it, like Mitzi.
Growing up she didn’t have that many friends, especially not close ones. Except for Selina, who was the only one who also believed in such fairytales. But a sudden move would cut their friendship short. And her first boyfriend, Andy, had drifted away when he began to focus on his music more than her. Near the end of 8th grade she was given Kiko; she’s had him for about 3 years now.
When she first met Stella, they were attacked by Knut and it awakened something in her. Before she was sent to Earth, Daphne cast a rune on her so Bloom’s powers nor her natural features would come into fruition. Not unless broken, whether magically or physically. And it just so happens tons of concrete fell on top of her.
After she finds out about her true origins, she questioned whether or not she should find her parents. To which she concludes it’s best left alone, that is, until her sister Daphne dies. And with her last breath, she told Bloom to find their parents.

Trivia & headcanons.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Other than being a powerful fairy, Bloom still wants to be a well-known artist. Eventually moving from pencils & water-based markers to sculpting and painting. Making statues that are cleverly engineered to move, spreading magic through more sentimental means. Even though she cannot sculpt and can barely paint.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Her Western Zodiac is Sagittarius.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Her Eastern Zodiac is in the year of the Rabbit.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Bloom is a spiritualist.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Her birth-name are references to dragons of myth and associated places;
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Lilith’s earliest appearance is in Sumeria (and the mythology I’m specifically referencing, not Lilith in the bible). She’s identified as a wind spirit, which Bloom originally was going to be fairy of. She’s described as a wild, free spirit/ She also has an affinity for dragons, which of one she owns and can manifest into.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ T’ai Shan is a referenes to the Green Jade Mother in chinese myth, the Jade Emperor’s sister, who is also known as the Old Lady of T’ai Shan, which is her sacred mountain.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ She’d love to train with the specialists since she’s always loved knights and sword-fighting.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Bloom hates how spikey and crazy her hair is.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Some of her extended family on her mother’s side have or had red hair, freckles, and blue eyes so she didn’t question why she didn’t look like her parents.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Bloom loved the feeling of being Dark Bloom / Gloom, but hated the mindset, the lack of self-control, and her impulsiveness. In some ways she misses being Dark Bloom, and she hates that she misses her.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ She’s bisexual with a preference for women, which she discovers while at Alfea.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ Her first crush and rejection was Selina. Bloom thought it was her confession that made Selina move away.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ She was born with black fingernails that grow quickly.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ After her first transformation, her dragon features became permanent. She loves how unique they are but hate how creepy her eyes can be. For a while, her friends and even her boyfriend would avoid eye contact with her. The only people that looked her in the eye was Faragonda & Icy.
ᖭི༏ᖫྀ After Diaspro and her makeup, Diaspro developed a fat crush on Bloom and would constantly follow her around. At first Bloom thought it was cute but then it got really annoying. It did help her realize she preferred women though.

Delete or keep?
Masterlist
Hopefully I get responses to this because I genuinely need like another opinion. But should I delete my old stuff or just heavily edit it? I feel like if edit it, it won’t go into the algorithm well and people won’t see the new stuff. But also it could be good to keep the old stuff as like a way of showing my progress and making a new version and just having two posts. But it feels like a bunch of unnecessary clutter. Idk man what should I do?

Princess Amentia of Downland (Queen in 4Kids dub), first appearing S2E4, is the ruler of a small kingdom of people called Trog (which I have a few problems about that we’ll talk on later). She is a dominant, perfectionist that falls madly in love with Brandon, Stella’s boyfriend. She serves as a minor conflict and minor ally to the Winx against Darkar. And while I think Amentia is a unique character that should’ve been explored more, she is also written off as a pitch poor portrayal of women in positions of power and borders on racist stereotypes. It’s unfortunate that I’ve yet to see any posts or articles talking about the inappropriate portrayal of her character and her people.
Not only is she a powerful ruler, she is also an impressive warrior, and so are many of her people. Despite their impressive nature, she and her soldiers are written as brainless brutes. Especially the soldiers. This is a common portrayal of unfortunately several brown people, but especially Indians & Arabians (also Natives, with how they’re written as savage and uncivilized) All of these cultures are stereotyped as being controlling, the same way Princess Amentia is. But I specifically want to talk about her being a woman in a position of power first.
In the world of Winx we don’t often get female rulers, which is strange as the Magic Realm has various societies and cultures but for some reason they’re all Kingdoms? Another rant for another day. But my point still stands, she is, other than the Queen of the Earth fairies, the only female ruler and indisputably the only female warrior. Yet, she’s controlling and doesn’t understand the idea of consent. She’s selfish, self-centered, and uses her position as a way to, frankly, just be a bitch to everyone. While she has good qualities, like being a strong strategist and, of course, fighter. She’s written so shallowly for the sake of being a low-stake conflict instead of a fully-rounded character. It’s sad to see the only woman in power to be written in such a bitchy way as many women with positional power are viewed.
It’s also gross with the way they solved this conflict by forcing her to fall in love with someone else without her consent nor the work necessary to make a happy couple. I know one of the dubs made it where she realized Sponsus is her soulmate instead of falling in love with him on the spot, but I’ve always hated the soulmate trope because, in this case, it just feels like an easy fix.
Tumblr media
Now onto the stereotypes, it was always something I noticed even as a child. It’s clear the Trog is a weird mix of Aztec & Orientalist aesthetics. Amentia wears what looks like a dupatta in her military outfit (a strange contrast to her immodest outfit which goes against the usage of the dupatta). She also wears a bindi or a Tilaka, which personally I think it is more of, which isn’t specifically a problem but helps to prove the Trogs are pulling from Indian asesthetics. Her and the other female Trogs dress in what looks like bellydancing costumes or vaguely Aztec costumes. And while I don’t have a problem with her or the Trogs being inspired by various cultures, the fact that they’re portrayed as savages leaves a sour taste when paired with their outfits being poor, sexualized versions or shallow depictions of real cultures.
Not to mention the forced marriage conflict, is strange. I get using arranged marriages as conflict, this happens in several series, it literally happens multiple times in Winx alone. But it feels downplayed for how uncomfortable Brandon was and for how often Amentia forced herself on him. And while this may be a stretch, it just looks like they’re minimizing female-initiated sexual assault and harassment.
Lastly, the name Trog. This is literally an insult in the english language, it being a shortened version of Troglodyte. It’s already a shitty move to name a species after an insult but to have these stereotypes on top of it, is so much worse.
Tumblr media
Amentia deserved to be taken seriously as a character and not a gross interpretation of women in power, her being aggressive and forceful are not what make a powerful woman powerful. She deserved to learn how to fall in love and not to pick a suitor based on looks or her perfectionist ideas. Her people deserved to stand as interesting characters without being stereotypical or shallow. Also it would’ve been great to see her pop up again in later seasons, especially S3. As one of the only kingdoms that doesn’t use magic it would’ve been interesting to see where she stood against Valtor.
There is so much that could’ve been done with her personality and a character in her position, yet they threw them in for low-stake conflict and filler content.
In short, Princess Amentia deserved better.

I'm only now realizing I never talked about Tecna's other possible disability (either instead of, or perhaps combined with her emotional constipation)!
Lemme just stall y'all for a moment with some of my thoughts. I've always loved fan redesigns of Tecna where she's athletic, muscular / toned because I always saw her as somewhat sporty, mostly due to her season one outfit which looks like a very trendy tracksuit (and so do a lot of her other outfits to be fair).
So alongside being practically a genius, she was also an athlete. Specifically a track-tar. But there's one problem.
Basically, she don't got no legs.
They're prostetics.
I might take her hand too, we'll see... but I think her being a technological genius can also be expressed through the way she manages her disability. In that, her prosthetics were handmade. It'd be fun to get scenes of her doing maintenance or maybe upgrading her legs entirely (maybe she upgrades them with every new transformation since it's not always compatible with her new powers).
Tumblr media
And while I still like the idea of her emotional unavailability playing into her powers, or well, the lack thereof really. I think it's a little cliche, or at least overdone, to have a genius character that doesn't freely express their emotions. Which is also something seen more frequently with strong, logical women in fiction. That's a whole 'nother conversation for another day (maybe I'll explain in a later reblog who knows).
But I still want to keep that emotional play into her powers because it's like another way of expanding on how Bloom not believing in her powers ultimately stopped her from using them.
So instead of removing it, I might make it that her emotional unavailability came from the trauma of her legs being removed, instead of just being how she acts. Because it would force her off the track (and maybe they don't let cyborgs race in Zenith or something idk, it's a work in progress) and keep her inside and isolated till she eventually made her own aides (I'm not sure why the kingdom wouldn't provide that for her but we'll make it up as we go along. Maybe they're worse than the American healthcare, guh).
Honestly, I just wanted her to have cool technological stuff on her, and what's cooler than having cyborg legs.

Small Update!
I've been wanting to revamp or redo some stuff on here, so you might see posts using old concepts, and some posts that should've been done like wayyy sooner (like the project roadmap)
So, sorry for the reused material!
I do have some stuff coming up, some things I need to draw, and some things I'm taking in consideration (like maybe making a team to work with 👀)

are you still interested in rewriting the series?
Honestly, I’m not sure. Sorry for the late response btw!
I do enjoy imagining how things could’ve been or could be expanded upon, but in terms of actually remaking the series (whether it be a comic or fanfic) I’m not sure if I’m going to do that. If anything, I’d need like a team of people, because I think I might’ve burnt myself out from how overwhelming something like this would be lol. But that’ll be a quite big bunch to set up.
Also, I graduated like two months ago so perhaps I’ll have more time and motivation to do things, because I would really like to come back and just ramble about whatever, not only for this blog but also for my other creative project blogs.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

I'm sorry if I sound rude, but seriously, I'm really tired of that stuff. I have lived in the Reylo fandom and all the toxicity of the antis and hypocrisy. And I've seen a lot of people praise Icy and Bloom, and complain about Valtor and Bloom and how disgusting and problematic it is. No, both start from the same scheme. It is hypocrisy to complain about one, and praise the other.
I feel like this is the same person over again but I’ll respond anyways.
I never said Icy and Bloom weren’t problematic and I never said Valtor and Bloom were disgusting. It’s a character/relationship analysis and you can still have personal taste outside of what’s canon. I’m not an anti, and I don’t praise Icy and Bloom, I enjoy it, there is a difference.
