Masa
Organized as a grouping of distinct but interconnected volumes, this building houses a cafe, a bakery, and a retail space. Using simple forms and materials to maximum effect, it articulates spaces, textures, and light to deliver environments with unique character.
To resonate with its surrounding context in a residential neighborhood of Bogota, the building’s mass is fragmented into smaller parts. This approach defines more intimate rooms yet, with a continuous ground, allows you to move through them with the freedom of an open plan. Large triangular windows, cut into the building’s textured concrete walls, open the facade to the street while revealing the life within. Inside, different ceiling heights, lighting, and seating conditions modulate the space and lend each zone its particular character. A quiet outdoor patio shaped around an existing tree provides shaded seating and connects the public to food production areas in the rear. The design was comprehensive and included all the architecture, furnishings and landscape inside and out.

Home ^ Dome House / Idoia otegui_arquitectura
Architects: Idoia otegui_arquitectura
Text description provided by the architects.
In the traditional neighborhood of Chamberí we find a huge dome 10 meters high that crowns a small squared space with two terraces on both sides, connected to the main floor on the lower level. A symmetrical house staggered in 3 heights that gives us the opportunity to carry out a comprehensive reform, where on the rectangular ground floor we will place the most public uses of kitchen / dining room / living room / in a single space, and behind a smooth and clean sliding door it It hides a Chinese cabinet that surprises with its dense decoration, and which in turn serves as a work space and a guest rom. Above the central space on the upper floor, the en-suite bedroom, crowned by the cupola, which can only be accessed by a delicate cat staircase made of corrugated pipe that climbs up to access a space of 10 meters height that has the power and beauty of being useless ... a space without a name, without use, a Follie, an extravagance, a useless, sublime luxury, where serious and conventional uses of the home have no place.
Behind the bedroom, an unconventional bathroom of only 1 meter wide and 10 meters long, which correlatively includes all the functions that a space dedicated to the enjoyment of cleanliness and water can desire; the toilet with a reading area, decorated with a built-in staircase that the painters forgot and necessary to access the cabinets 4 meters high; the sink embedded in a lighted niche where you look handsome and powerful at the start of the day; a large shower / balcony that flies and jumps over the stairs, with views of the bedroom and the Sierra de Madrid; a sliding glass door that allows you to shower indoors in the morning sunlight or with the door open to the south-facing outside terrace; an outdoor shower to shower outdoors on those sunny days in Madrid from February to October; and finally an outdoor pool or bathtub with hot water and a solarium area for sunbathing. You cannot ask for more!!!!

Whiteline Loft / Neumann Monson Architects
This 3,800 sf residence, which occupies the top floor of a converted historic urban warehouse, balances the duality of the clients’ public and private lives through processional layout and spatial contrast. The design assigns bright, open social spaces to the perimeter and encloses private areas with dark tones and rich materiality. The juxtaposition provides the chiaroscuro of the clients’ extensive calligraphic art collection, writ large in space.

Text description provided by the architects. Stonewood is efficient: its elegant plan offers flexibility for a humble family. It's operable screens transform connecting spaces, sectioning large areas into intimate nooks, directing views, and channelling breezes. Folding and unfolding according to use, Stonewood reveals a different story in each configuration, appearing effortlessly spacious within a modest footprint. Stonewood presents an aspirational solution to a designing on a modest bu dget. The 8.5 star rated home utilizes elegant planning, and passive methods of thermal comfort to tackle a site presenting a series of dichotomous interests. With a street address and sun to the north, privacy to the south, and heritage context to the west; Stonewood’s operable façade serves to resolve each of these needs.

Circa Morris Nunn Architects and Studio Ongarato worked with the family-owned Behrakis Group to develop the new boutique hotel Moss in Salamanca, Hobart. The site has a rich history, set in Georgian sandstone warehouses on the docks of Salamanca Place. The name, Moss, is a tribute to the successful modernizing of heritage buildings, with moss growing on rocks symbolizing renewal.

In typical Algarve style, Vila Monte, situated in Moncarapacho in Portugal’s Olhão municipality, uses whitewashed surfaces and natural wood to create bright, airy atmospheres. The property sprawls over nine hectares, encompassing orange and olive groves, gardens and ponds, two swimming pools, a tennis court, and four buildings that house its 55 rooms as well as a Suites Collection that includes private terraces or gardens and a personalized butler service. The interiors were designed by Vera Iachia—who has worked with Andy Warhol and Jacques Grange—and the hotel’s event and activity offerings include fishing in the Ria Formosa, boat tours, seafood tasting, desert island sunbathing, and trips to the Olhão market with the chef of the hotel’s À Terra restaurant. During the summer months, guests can watch movies in the great outdoors and enjoy one of the area’s jogging trails.

The 1980s Yorkville townhome originally designed by acclaimed architect Barton Meyers was built as two 2-story duplex units. The project scope includes converting the building into one 4-story single family residence, renovating and reprogramming the full interior, adding on a 15’ rear addition, elevator and redesigning the rear facade. The interiors are designed around two double height atrium spaces and the new 4 story south facing full height glass facade. On the outside of each of the 10’ high glass sliding doors is a minimal glass railing, allowing the home owner a seamless indoor outdoor relationship with the mature spruce tree canopies in the rear yard. The light filled open floor plan boasts a fourth floor master retreat inclusive of a bridge like connection to two large walk in closets, and a spa like master bath with a freestanding soaker tub against a frosted glass wall open to the adjacent lightwell. The lower level entertainment space stretches out to a secluded terraced garden with existing mature trees. And of course a new elevator makes the four story residence accessible.

What a spot for a charming resort—on the tip of southernmost Portugal where an expansive pine forest meets the deep blue of the Atlantic! The resort—Praia Verde Boutique Hotel—sits in harmony with its preserved natural environment in the untouched eastern part of the Algarve. The languid and beautiful seascape is celebrated in the expansive 65 suites with plenty of floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies. Each room comes equipped with a separate living room and a kitchenette. With almost year-round good weather, there are plenty of activities for guests to enjoy, from water sports, to dolphin watching, to bicycle rides, to golf. In the summer, there is also plenty planned for families, such as treasure hunts, painting, and theater.

11 Howard, a 213-room boutique hotel in New York City’s fashionable SoHo district, combines cutting-edge Scandinavian design with socially conscious hyperlocalism. More than just an ideal vantage point for downtown exploration, the property is an art spectacle in itself and a community hub partnered with a range of local businesses and nonprofits. 11 Howard describes its raison d’etre as “conscious hospitality”, which begins with the property’s design—a collaborative creation between Anda Andrei of Anda Andrei Design and influential Danish firm Space Copenhagen—then extends to its intuitive, discreet flow of service, which incorporates technology for self-check-in and smart room service delivery. Add to that world-class food and beverage offerings by famed restaurateur Stephen Starr; a dynamic co-working space, the 11H Collective; collaborations with standout contemporary artists, such as Katie Yang, Dan Attoe, and Hiroshi Sugimoto; and involvement with a number of nonprofit organizations and businesses (Global Poverty Project, Conscious Commerce, and others) in an effort to give back to the community and to the world, and you have an unrivaled downtown hub—cool, creative, and always conscious
