I finally (got help) slapping Wordpress into shape and Runaway to the Stars is now releasing as a public webcomic! Thank you so much for your support over the years, and sticking with me while I'm slowly chewing my way through this book. I'm very excited to share this story! It'll be updating every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday thanks to the massive Patreon backlog. Patreon will continue to update as I finish pages, which happens on a sporadic non-schedule.
If you experience bugs with the site report them to me. Some things may occasionally break, as coding problems tend to be a very "whack-a-mole" affair; and I'm still getting used to the interface.
Finished my Below Zero playthrough yesterday and had to draw AL-AN or I was going to explode <3 he's so neat ough. I loved the ending of the game, very nice. I highly recommend playing Subnautica and Below Zero, the OST is really pretty.
Tim Curry’s voice escapes to the one place that hasn’t been corrupted by capitalism… …SPACE!!! A goofy thing I made for my demo reel. The objective was to display the best my animation style has to offer. Pls hire me studios
Whoops, looks like the damn lizard’s at it again. Break out the warheads guys, we’ve got another containment breach…
I’m pleased that there seems to be a bit of renewed interest in SCP lately and I was sufficiently inspired to sketch my take on everyone’s favorite indestructible abomination on a rampage, looking a bit worse for wear.
One gripe I have about 682’s common depiction is that it often seems like a big mutant crocodile with missing skin - but really, since it adapts to counter any perceived threat in seconds it can theoretically look like ANYTHING. It is, after all, only vaguely reptilian according to the description. So, I decided to go the route of “hulking tangle of muscle, spikes, and armor plates that will generally fuck up everything in its path”.
The style is more of a callback to the way I used to draw in high school notebooks when I should have paid attention - I’m growing concerned that my style is becoming too sterile. SCP was, after all, a staple of my high-school life and subject of discussion with my cafeteria friends.
Play a Posthuman, Uplift or Machine crewmate with your friends; guide your modular clunker of a Starship through the gloomy, dangerous pollution clouds of the far-future Scrapveil Nebula.
Inane worldbuilding minutia of the day: there is a viral dance craze in Runaway to the Stars "modern day" (approx. 2325), because what is society without a viral dance craze. It began on Martian social media and then spread to the rest of the human internet via the extranet social platform Megaforum.
It is called "The Whop."
It takes some skill to to whop quickly without losing your balance, and videos of skilled whoppers dancing in increasingly ridiculous and inconvenient locations have plagued the human internet for years now. It has a resurgence every time a new bubble of human space discovers and spreads it.
There is also a two-person version of The Whop:
Two-person whopping is extremely popular among children, much to the dismay of their elders. If you don't pay attention and keep time with the other party, it's extremely easy to slap them square in the face. Video compilations of people getting injured while whopping abound. School nurses have seen many victims of the viral dance, sent in with bruises and bloodied noses after whopping too hard.
Oh man, when I began directing videos for Rational Animations I didn't think being shouted out by Kurzgesagt was something that could even happen. A year later, here we are! This is a crazy honor
I had fun redesigning Orks so they’re algae tardigrade aliens instead of green muscle guys.
Most things about them are the same green boyz we love, but now they photosynthesize and can survive any condition in a tun state - extra unkillable bastards.
