Gaza is starving. Aid has been cut off. My beloved friend is terrified of dying of hunger on the one hand or an airstrike on another. The internet is full to saturated of fundraisers for Gaza. I don't know how to help her.

on march 15, the largest protest in serbia’s history took place in the capital, with some estimates ranging between 800,000 and 1,000,000 people on the streets. however, there were incidents of organized attacks on demonstrators—people were trampled, hit with stones and firecrackers, and tear gas was deployed. the most extreme action by the police was the use of a sound cannon (LRAD), which triggered a stampede. dozens of people were injured.
serbian students have been protesting since november of last year, following the collapse of the novi sad train station canopy. for more context, please read these posts [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Save the life of my husband and children from death 🥹💔🇵🇸
Hello friends, despite the difficult circumstances we are living in, from famine and the lack of food and drink and facing death at every moment, my husband and I were exposed to direct and close bombing by Israeli warplanes😭, and as a result, my husband and I were seriously injured. My husband entered surgery and spent several days in intensive care. As a result of the injury, he lost his left eye and 70 centimeters of intestine were removed.💔😭
His condition is critical and he is now staying in the hospital and needs treatment and healthy food that is not available 🥹💔
In addition, my tent was damaged by the missile bombing and became unlivable 🥹💔
So please, I need your support and help 😭 Try to help me with any donation to provide shelter for my children and treatment for my husband.
Please, my life and the lives of my children and husband are in danger 🥹💔💔
Any donation you make will help me provide a tent or at least provide medicine and food for my husband.

Over the weekend, agents of the government entered a legal resident’s home without a warrant and arrested him, and then flew him a thousand miles away without notifying his family or lawyers about his whereabouts for a day. If you read about it in any other country, you would know what to call it.
This happened to Palestinian activist and green card holder Mahmoud Khalil in New York on Saturday night. The ostensible crime was, per a Homeland Security spokesperson, leading “activities aligned to Hamas” — or, described another way, protesting a genocide while a masters degree student at Columbia University, an obviously First Amendment-protected activity at the very core of theoretical American values. Khalil’s wife, an American citizen who is eight months pregnant, was present during the arrest, and was threatened with detention herself.
The arresting agents apparently told him his student visa had been revoked — only he doesn’t have one, and is, again, living here legally with a green card. According to Khalil’s lawyer Amy Greer, his wife tried to visit him the following day at a detention center in New Jersey but was told he was not being held there. For at least a while, no one outside of the government knew where he was — and it later became clear that he had been flown all the way to Louisiana to be detained.
This is, obviously, blatantly illegal, horrendously immoral, and straight-up fascist. This is what dictatorships do — arrest people without legal backing for thought and speech crimes against the government. As many have already pointed out, the choice to start such depravity with a Palestinian activist seems deeply and cynically calculated, given the attitudes of much of the government itself as well as various elite institutions on the subject; at one point on Monday Morning, a small-type link to a story on Khalil’s arrest was 39 stories down on the New York Times homepage. As of this writing a couple of hours later, it does not appear to be on the homepage at all.
Call it a trial balloon. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it outright when he shared the Khalil story: “We will be revoking the visas and/or green cards of Hamas supporters in America so they can be deported.” But why stop there? As Jamelle Bouie said on Bluesky, “if they can disappear permanent residents they can disappear citizens.”
There have been plenty of examples of creeping fascism since Trump took office, but this seems like the most breathtakingly obvious one yet. “Silencing dissent is unlawful, unjust, and authoritarian through and through,” said Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D—MA). “A President who detains a protestor and revokes their legal status can only be called one thing: A dictator.”

(This is a gift article)
Due process is a cornerstone of democracy and the rule of law. Without it, anyone can be arbitrarily deprived of life or liberty. Leaders who aspire to absolute power always begin by demonizing groups that lack the political power to resist, and that might be awkward for the political opposition to defend. They say someone is a criminal, and they dare you to defend the rights of criminals. They say someone is a deviant, and they dare you to defend the rights of deviants. They call someone a terrorist, and they dare you to defend the rights of terrorists. And if you believe none of these apply to you, another category might be “traitor,” the label that Trump and his advisers, including the far-right billionaire Elon Musk, like to give to anyone who opposes them.
I would add that as this article went up, the Trump administration released a statement explicitly saying that Khalil is not being accused of any illegal activities and is being targeted because of his speech.

Prem Thakker at Zeteo:
On Saturday, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers detained Mahmoud Khalil – a recent Columbia University graduate who helped lead the Gaza solidarity encampment – at his New York City home, an apartment building owned by the school, says advocates. According to the advocates, at around 8:30 PM, Khalil and his wife – who is eight months pregnant – had just unlocked the door to their building when two plainclothes DHS agents pushed inside behind them. The agents allegedly did not identify themselves at first, instead asking for Khalil’s identity before detaining him. The agents proceeded to tell Khalil’s wife that if she did not leave her husband and go to their apartment, they would arrest her too. The agents claimed that the State Department had revoked Khalil’s student visa, with one agent presenting what he claimed was a warrant on his cell phone. But Khalil, according to advocates, has a green card. Khalil’s wife went to their apartment to get the green card. “He has a green card,” an agent apparently said on the phone, confused by the matter. But then after a moment, the agent claimed that the State Department had “revoked that too.” Meanwhile, Khalil had been on the phone with his attorney, Amy Greer who was trying to intervene, asking why he was being detained, if they had a warrant, and explaining that Khalil was a green card holder. The attorney had circled back to demanding to see a warrant when the agents apparently instead hung up the phone. Khalil was initially detained in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in downtown New York, pending an appearance before an immigration judge. Greer said they now do not know his precise whereabouts. They were initially told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey. But when his wife tried to visit him, she was told he wasn’t there. They have received reports that he may be transferred as far away as Louisiana. “We will vigorously be pursuing Mahmoud’s rights in court, and will continue our efforts to right this terrible and inexcusable – and calculated – wrong committed against him,” Greer said in a statement.
[...]
Free Speech?
Khalil, who is Palestinian, served as a lead negotiator amid the campus’s Gaza solidarity encampment last spring. He had appeared in several media interviews, in the past telling outlets he had a student visa. Advocates say he had gotten his green card since. The escalation comes amid several reports of ICE presence on the school’s campus this week. It also comes after a massive escalation by the Trump-Vance administration to crack down on speech. This week, Trump announced his intentions to jail, imprison, or deport students involved in protests. Then, reporting revealed that his State Department was planning to use artificial intelligence to monitor online activity, and revoke visas for whomever they deem to be “pro-Hamas.” On Friday, the Trump administration cut $400 million in grants to Columbia, claiming it has failed to take steps to address antisemitism, despite it having one of the most militant responses to student protesters. In February – after Columbia president Katrina Armstrong met with Israel’s education minister, where they discussed taking firmer action on campus speech – Columbia’s Barnard College expelled three students for political activism for the first time since the 1968 protests. This week – as the school welcomed former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who once said, “I’ve killed many Arabs in my life, and there’s no problem with that,” to campus – NYPD arrested nine students involved in a campus sit-in. All the while, Columbia is maintaining a shadowy process to discipline students who are critical of Israel, including, apparently for writing op-eds.
Khalil himself said he was accused of misconduct by the school just weeks before his graduation this December. “I have around 13 allegations against me, most of them are social media posts that I had nothing to do with,” he told the Associated Press last week. The school put a hold on his transcript and apparently threatened to block him from graduating. But, according to Khalil, when he appealed the decision with a lawyer, the school eventually backed down.
Mahmoud Khalil got unjustly detained by DHS for leading the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at Columbia University. This is an egregious attack on the freedom of speech, as Khalil was detained and arrested on politically-motivated charges designed to chill pro-Palestinian protests and speech.

And again, zero reflection from the stupid and gullible crew that maybe all of these coordinated rage bait posts against Democrats across social media platforms are working exactly as intended to take all of their anger and attention away from Republicans, who are actually in power and causing massive harm right now.
Btw, you know how little the SOTU matters in the grand scheme of things? Do any of you remember Biden’s last SOTU address in 2024? It was praised as a great, energetic performance that proved his “Biden too old” critics wrong. Yeah.

THEY'LL TORTURE YOU WITHOUT A TRIAL TOO. YOUR LIFE MEANS NOTHING TO THEM. YOUR CHILDREN DYING IN SCHOOL SHOOTINGS MEANS NOTHING TO THEM.
IF YOU ARE NOT ANGRY, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.
So to catch you up to speed
Luigi Mangione is an innocent man who has not been confirmed to have been involved in any crime.
We have police documents confirming he was not DNA tested or fingerprinted, and confirmation no usable DNA or fingerprints were recovered at the crime scene due to incomplete prints and immense DNA contamination of New Yorks streets.
No evidence has linked him to the crime.
No facial recognition has even remotely come close to identifying the cctv suspects face as that of Luigi. His own family and friends do not see a resemblance. Most people agree the features in the cctv do not match the very well documented features of Luigi Mangione.
Luigi Mangione has no history of violence nor with firearms. He is a vegan pacifist with no history of mental illness and an aversion to killing even bugs.
He is still only a SUSPECT and all involvement in any crimes are merely ALLEGED at this time. Alleged by the most corrupt police force in the entire nation; the NYPD who do more organized crime than they've ever stopped.
Luigi Mangione's attorneys confirmed they have been shown absolutely nothing that even places Luigi at the scene of the crime.
People have repeatedly tried to recreate the entire timeline of events and found it is not physically possible to do what was alleged in the time frame police gave. Especially dubious for Luigi Mangione to have done given his recent, crippling back injury.
Luigi Mangione in his own words has said police planted evidence on him and are not being honest about his arrest or what he had on him at the time.
There is no body cam footage of Luigi's arrest.
There is no autopsy report for Brian Thompson.
Luigi has so far been:
Stripped of his hat, jacket and shoes and forced to walk in the cold in December wearing wet socks.
Forced to urinate on himself where police then took and published humiliation photos of him.
He was then stripped of his shirt pants and socks and put in a blue psychiatric gown and strapped to a chair inmates called "the torture chair" and left for prolonged periods of time. To the point the entire inmate population at the prison protested in anger.
He was slammed unto a brick wall, choked, and shoved by various police officers for no reason.
Was marched through nyc at gunpoint by officers with military firearms, forced to wear chains
Was called a murderer by the mayor of NYC on national television.
Was then placed in solitary confinement for weeks. Something extremely damaging psychologically to be exposed to for even just a few days. Something usually reserved for cannibals.
He is now being forced to sleep on the floor despite again, a crippling back injury.
Again, he has not even had trial yet. He is an innocent man by the very definition of the law. He has nothing tying him to any crime. And even the crime itself was a nobody being shot in a city where nobodies are shot everyday, seven days a week. And those shooters don't get this treatment. Cannibals don't get this treatment. Serial killers don't get this treatment. Why are they doing this? Because we entered an oligarchy and they want people who are rich to matter more than people who are not. The NO ONE, no name, insignificant person that Brian THOMPSON always was and WILL ALWAYS BE is more important because of his net worth, to the fascist oligarchy we've entered into, than the innocent man, data scientist and robotics engineer with a promising future that is Luigi Mangione.
The NYPD doesn't want him to be innocent. They are torturing him gleefully and postponing his trial because they know he's innocent. They just want to scare the public into understanding that the ultra rich, even those who's names will never be remembered as anything other than markings on a never visited tombstone, are the only persons who matter now. Not yours. Never yours. You're poor. They'll torture you without a trial too. Your life means nothing to them. Your children dying in school shootings means nothing to them. Pinning a crime on an innocent man they can beat to scare the public out of class consciousness is the only thing that matters to them now. Depose them.

A lot of leftist accounts are suspiciously quiet on the section 504 lawsuit, proposed medicaid cuts, and the "make America healthy again" executive order.
I know other leftists are not the enemy but if we don't have able bodied allies and general population support, there's no hope of pushing back against these ableist policies. These big accounts ignoring a massive minority at risk is scary. The current admin is the problem but there's no hope of a solution without allyship.
We need visibility. We need allies.
