Now that we are back home and already reminiscing on the most incredible trip of our lives, we think this photo best sums up our most recent travels. We got married, and had fun doing it; supported each other; danced; laughed; connected; had plenty of sunshine; visited stunningly beautiful places; and experienced yet another trip together hand-in-hand, only this time as husband as wife. We would re-live it again in a heartbeat if we could, but life doesn't work that way so it is time to look forward to a couple of months back in Canada before our next trips away. Coming up we have Washington DC for a long weekend, as we go from bride and groom to witnessing other friends get married; England, France and Spain, before Christmas in a cabin on one of Ontario's many Great Lakes. The alleys of Italy are some of the worlds most wonderful mazes to get lost in. Everywhere we turned in Locorotondo there was a picture to be taken. This comes as no surprise seeing as the pedestrianised historic town was rated as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. #tbt to one week ago today when we started our honeymoon by driving 8 hours south from rural Tuscany to Puglia, in the heel of Italy. We arrived at our stunningly white hotel and knew we were on honeymoon with views like this. It has been our favourite place to stay so far, although others have come extremely close. The trulli of Alberobello, a UNESCO world heritage site, are absolutely fascinating. The limestone dwellings are designed and constructed using prehistoric building techniques, and this cluster of them in the tourist area shows them off perfectly. They are made of limestone boulders collected from neighbouring fields and come with pyramidal, domed or conical roofs, which is one of their most distinguishing features. They are all whitewashed and many residents have added colour to their homes through beautiful flower pots and arrangements. Some even have good luck symbols on their roofs. Other locals have opted to use their trulli as a form of income turning them into shops and restaurants. Nothing beats a bowl of two of Puglia's finest foods at the end of a long day of sightseeing. Seafood Orecchiette was on the menu tonight and we could not resist. Orecchiette quite literally means "small ears" which refers to the shape of this homemade pasta. We had it with fresh tomatoes, olive oil, herbs and seafood, but have seen it offered with broccoli or tomatoes and ricotta as well. The shake is ideal for soaking up flavours, and boy did they tonight! We know we are going to miss the amount of fresh food we have eaten when we return home next week. The streets of Monopoli, Puglia are simply stunning. Crisp white and cream stone buildings, bright flourishing flowers and brilliant sunshine. This coastal town of around 50,000 inhabitants is the perfect stopping point in Puglia for access to Polignano a Mare, the trulli town of Aberobello and beautiful sand and rock beaches. It is also home to some fantastic seafood restaurants offering as much local fish as possible. Sadly though at dinner last night our waiter informed us that they had no local oysters or mussels and by next year they would likely be out of them altogether. A reminder to be kind to our seas and marine life.
