For quite a while I have been trying to figure out a distinct method of visualizing magic with the VV world. Recently I landed on this idea of magic being threads that are woven by mages. This particular scene has been rattling around in my head for a year now, and maybe I have finally have the skills to portray it.

I started a new DnD campaign, and this time, I'm not playing another wizard. This is Altan, a brass dragonborn ranger. So far he's been great to play, and I have a lot of ideas for him, so he'll probably get some more art.

A little storyboard/animatic I'm working on. I have this very specific idea of how magic is seen and interacted with in the VV series. I want it to be these threads that can only be seen by casters. In order to cast a spell, the mage has to 'weave' these stands of the arcane. The more complicated the spells, the more intricate the weave. Imagine a very powerful spell having this elaborately woven pattern surrounding the caster. It all looks very cool in my head, but my visual experiments are not turning out very well. I'll keep trying, because I think that if I can pull it off well, it will be very distinctive.

One aspect that my art has been lacking is environments and backgrounds. I've made a couple studies, so here's one of my favorites.

Look at him go!! I made a little test of Jerm's werewolf form and decided to try making a run cycle for him. For his wolf form I wanted him to look less like a wolf and more human, for maximum unsettling potential.

Unpopular opinion: let your characters have happy endings. Olen and Priscilla both had it rough, I think they deserve a bit of whimsy.

some more silly guys in funky colors. Zale's color palette in this will never not make me think of a Barney who has fallen on hard times

A bunch of silly guys! I was struggling with artblock last spring and ending up drawing these little color palette challenges to get me out. They still hold up, so I thought I could post them here while I'm working on bigger projects

While I was driving I saw the most incredible sunset, only a narrow band of the sun shining through the storm clouds that had been lingering all day. So I went home and painted it, plus I added in a little church steeple for some more interest. I know its cliche, but dusk and dawn are my favorite times of day to depict

Even the wildest woods do not give him peace.
Have some Halgard art, he's the druid of the main cast from the D&D inspired animated series I am writing.

Meet Jeremy guys, he's a werewolf who is most definitely not having a good time. I made this little doddle of him to practice drawing his transition into a were wolf and I think it came out quite nicely.

Inktober 2024 Day 12: Remote
Let us ignore that it is November.... my drawing tablet is busted anyways, so I might as well work on some traditional art. Anyways, today's drawing is rather obscure in its inspiration, as I have been rereading The Deerslayer by James Fenimore Cooper. (Great book by the way) The floating log cabin featured in the book is about as remote as it gets. I am conquering my fear of building this year in Inktober, so a log cabin wasn't too bad.

A group newly appointed as Inquisitors of the Truth Hunting Guild sets out to solve mysteries. On their adventure, they begin to unravel a set of cases that are more connected than at first glance.
Simply put, I am making an animated series, all by my self, like a mad woman. A good DnD campaign just gives you that kind of audacity I suppose. Here is a little poster and series synopsis that I whipped up, as a treat.

Inktober 2024 Day 11: Snacks
After watching Delicious in Dungeon, when I saw the prompt 'snacks' I had to draw Laois with a walking mushroom. I love this autistic adventurer, he's one of the best characters in the show.

Inktober 2024 Day 9: Sun
The three controlling forces on Dune...
Ever since I saw Dune 2 this year I've been captivated by it's cinematic shots and vivid color palettes. I might redraw this on my tablet sometime, I'll be able to improve the colors that way.
