It's the start of the second semester. Day 3. Wednesday. The situation has escalated beyond what I previously thought was possible. The nurse in charge of our ward saw us (a pack of tiny, tired, clueless, confused 3rd years, lost, searching for our tutor) and thought we were INTERNS, and asked us to put up an IV line because the patient had pulled theirs out (obviously we declined, even though technically we know how to do that. Supposedly). I'm already behind on 7,8 lectures. I've been staring at the same picture of tertiary syphilis for an hour, trying to figure out how this spirochete, spirally, spaghetti type bacteria can drill holes in your skull. I'm never kissing another person again. My tea is cold. I am willingly carrying around a 1175 page textbook and I still know nothing. Peeled an orange today (for myself).

MATERIALS Faber Castell Polychromos and graphite on Fabriano Schizzi/Sketch 90 gsm paper, with tissue paper scraps. Very loosely based on a random angel sculpture. The warm-up sketch on the right is a study of a statue by contemporary sculptor Pete Sherrard. I've been listening to Florence + The Machine lately, the whole discography. I'm quite enjoying their sound and lyricism. University's taken it out of me, but I'm back (I always come back :)) so here's a little welcome back sketch. The tissue paper's there because I don't know what they (you know who) will do to me for drawing body hair. God forsake someone have hair anywhere but on their head :') It's only a statue, after all. Self-growth ⭐🌟✨ I'm growing. Finally. I can exist with all these pieces and parts that I have collected and stitched and mended together. I am not here to look pretty for you. If you don't like what I have made of myself, you can close your eyes and move on. I will not pull myself apart for you, nor will I twist and fold myself into some familiar shape for you, one that may be easier to digest. My existence is a field, and the grass is overgrown and wild with flowers, and the trees are tall.

This is my personal expression of 'self-growth', and the process thereof. There are so many levels to growth, personal or not. Physical, emotional, spiritual growth. Artistic growth. Everything is a process, and the process is different for each individual. My goal is to trust and enjoy the process, and see where it takes me. With the lunar new year upon us, I thought it would be a great opportunity to reflect on growth, but more so on how I want to grow. What do you think? What's your idea of self-growth, or just growth? How would you want to grow this year? I'm always eager to hear your thoughts. And let me know what you think of this one. I enjoyed playing around with the shadows and light. MATERIALS Faber Castell 3B + Goldfaber 3B on Fabriano Schizzi 90 gsm. This set of illustrations was the direct result of my anatomy classes. This semester we are covering neuro-anatomy and illustrating the content and subject matter is my method of coping. I was in the mood for some grotesque beauty in graphite. It's nice to take a break from the colourful pencils every one in a while and produce something a little atmospherically different. When I take a break from university, I find solace in sharpening a pencil and talking to the paper. These days, I've been attracted to this style of illustration. What do you think? Is it haunting, or pretty? Perhaps both? Happy Friday, folks✨

-CHOSEN KARMA- Let's flip a coin (I'll decide your fate)

A personal project cover illustration based on @pixy_official_ 's album, CHOSEN KARMA. Their darker concepts are quite interesting, so I was inspired by that to create this illustration.

Some motifs included: The stars represent fate, or a higher calling/purpose that one cannot escape from. Think 'written in the stars'. The coins represent the obvious - flipping a coin to make a choice - heads or tails? Let the coin decide for you :) The pocket watch is a symbol of time. Time is moving on, or perhaps your time is running out. Either way, whether you choose to stay or go, the clock is running. The plants are signs of life and personal growth. Green represents luck and life, contrasting the rust palette of the suit.

I love art like this, creature and character design. It's so fascinating, the combination of organic and inorganic, mechanized and fleshy. This has just increased my fear of trains slightly. The animation is gorgeous.

Perfectly normal train running to greet you cmon give it a hug (FYI, its this guy i drew half a year ago and i still think about it)

a soldier's wish

Illustration based on a scene from a production by the Takarazuka Revue, the Japanese all-female musical theatre troupe, featuring Rei Yuzuka (uniform).

Some footnotes about this illustration: I changed the accent colours of the original uniform from red to purple/plum. Do not fret, I'm not romanticising war or acts thereof here, I simply liked the reference image and the energy between the two characters/actors. I am also just a big simp for Rei Yuzuka, but who isn't :') It was meant to be a warm-up sketch but then something came over me and I wanted to develop it further. I used Faber Castell polychromos on Fabriano 90 gsm sketch paper. This was a great exercise for me to practise my colour theory and shading.
