How engines are sentient.

Basically, engine sentience was assumed into existence. The first engines were noticed to snort stubbornly as a human might, so they were anthropomorphized. And slowly, they began to have faces, real and tangible, and souls.

Now, the Lady of the Rails used the memory of human souls to create something that mimicked them, all their pride and wisdom and playfulness and moodiness. The memories of those who gave their lives to the railroads, whether through building the track, engineering, or something else entirely.

Their spirits remained. Their desire to be Really Useful will always remain.

#16: Al-Andalus (Continued)

Here we have the next portion of the Al-Andalus neighborhood. The first portion was posted as my 7th sheet. In this sheet we have many things. Parks, highways, large roads, winding streets, grid-like streets, etc. What we also have here is a small "ancient" Muslim village that was incorporated into the main city. In the top left corner/northwest corner we have a large mosque and large souq (market). I tried to fashion the area after ancient Muslim villages and towns in Iberia (Spain/Portugal). There's also a Saray or hotel close by for those traveling through.

Most streets here are named after places in Muslim Iberia and Italy. We have:

Gripes about the film aside I do think that Mickey 17 had an interesting fixation on voyeuristic violence and all the different forms that can take. Mickey running from a rich loan shark who wants to put him in a snuff film only to end up under the thumb of a bunch of people who basically do the exact same thing to him, again and again, but under the thin justifying veneer of scientific advancement. Marshall's obsession with looking good for a propaganda reel in which he gasses an entire sapient species to death. Juxtapose this in some way, if you'd like, against the pointed lack of security cameras noted by Timo in the waste disposal area- a wildly unsafe working environment that's ultimately the site of three attempted murders because of how easy it is to for people to kill each other in there- because those in authority never put the cameras on violence it would be inconvenient to draw attention to. Indeed, despite Marshall's ridiculous grandstanding during the "trial" of the Mickeys and Nasha, his torture of Zoco while in full dress uniform and so on, the only one actually recording any of that, to the best of my recollection, is an incipient mutineer doing so surreptitiously.
