i got far enough into The Wire that i got curious about that eternal question: "ok so what are the top ships on AO3 tho"

and, okay, even given that this is an older show (and thus most the fic ever written for it probably predates ao3), and given that it's really not a show that's amenable to fic'ing (like, i personally can't imagine ever really craving a fic for this), and given that the small # of fics overall is going to skew the representation of stuff by any given Especially Prolific Author...

...even given all that, i was not prepared for this result

actors i would like to see cast as pall atreides in future adaptations of dune:

1. Ziggy Sobotka

Ziggy Sobtoka, who played Ziggy Sobabka on "The Wire" would make an excellent Paul atreides in the reiminanging of a future adaptation of the movie "dune" by Denis Villenauve. I think Ziggy Sobokta would dmake and excellent addition to the "Dune-iverse" franchise by playing Paul Atredies in the fictional story of Frank herber'ts "Dune".

Here ZIggy would make this face during the climatic "Gom Jabbar" scene where Ziggy Sobotka would play Pal Atredes getting his hand sucked off by the wicked witch of the Emporor. By portrying his acting chops in the climatic scene of Season 2 of the wire where Ziggy is REALLY sad I think he would make an excelent addition to the future cast of dune how the fuck did an ant get on top of my comptuer

i watched s1 of the wire and enjoyed it but had to stop watching during s2 bc that guy ziggy..... i have never had such a visceral hatred of a character before but i think it brought out some latent ptsd from having a coworker who was the boss's nephew........ i am not a violent person but i think if someone made ziggy real and locked me in a room w him i would kill him & feel good doing it. feel crazy typing this but. it's true. i will eventually get back to watching the wire when i've recovered from this damage on my psyche and grappling w what it says abt me.

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): ohhh this is so hard. I love the view from halfway down, fish out of water, time's arrow and so many others but I'm gonna go with the old sugarman place because it impacted me so much.

my favorite cast member: love aaron but I'll pick alison brie bc she's great and I've loved her in three different roles.

my favorite ship: hmm I don't think I have one but I thought diane and mr peanutbutter was interesting from a character study standpoint.

BACKGROUND.

tw: death, drugs, body dysmorphia

he crawled straight out of the trash piles of fresh kills landfill in staten island, new york. at least that was the running joke in the family. it wasn't a broken home, nor were his parents bad. his sister was normal. as far as he knew, his father was a good guy firefighter until he passed away. anytime bash thinks about it, he has to wonder what the hell was wrong with him.

from the moment he could walk he was causing trouble. constantly doing stunts, climbing things, fighting with whoever was available, making messes, etc. this only got worse as he got older, constantly exhausting his widowed mother even more. he loved her, don't get him wrong, but he couldn't help it - he lived for the rush of it all and he loved to party.

to their mother's benefit - she tried to get him some help and it worked for something. he found out why he'd always felt wrong in his own skin and one of the reasons he felt off all the time. that counselor helped set bash on the path to come out and begin hormone therapy and puberty blockers. however, that didn't change his rebellious and overall mischievous nature - though it did give him confidence and esteem where he didn't have it before.

eventually he graduated high school, the one thing he promised his mother and he had to admit he wanted to give her at least one thing to be proud about. it was likely the last thing. for his eighteenth birthday she gave him boxes, wishing him the best but it was time for him to be his own problem and learn some responsibility (that's yet to be seen)

he fell in with the jade tribe quick, to be honest it was the first place he felt like he fit in. bash loved it. he feels like he's on the top of the world and every time he does a job it only adds to the rush.

bash is good at pushing product, he's been doing quick change transactions with cash since he was a teenager so he's only gotten better at that. he's always trying to take it to the next level, constantly out and about, at social events, making sure he's always available.

he still does a lot of stupid stuff to get laughs out of people. also has a bad habit of picking fights with people that he won't win. he's a scrappy kid but he's well aware that he looks like a sick victorian child on the best of days - that's why he's gotten really good at running. he's often cracking jokes, he's aggressive when it comes to selling product, and he loves to push buttons.

currently he doesn't have an end goal, he just wants to do his job well and keep having a good time. he still drops by to see his mom, give her some money when he can but she knows it's coming from somewhere suspicious so she often turns it down. other than that he's living his best life and trying to raise a little hell everywhere he goes.

when i was watching season 2 of the wire i kept wondering, was that one guy on the sopranos? And finally i checked and yes he was. He played coach molinaro in that one episode. but the other thing i noticed, when i was scrolling imdb to find the actor’s name, well horseface is billed lower than ziggy sobotka so i had to scroll past him. and i was like wait why does ziggy sobotka’s actor’s name look familiar? did he die or something and i know that name from the news? and well it turns out he didn’t die but he WAS in the stephen king clown movie that half this website was obsessed with five years ago. and that’s how i know his name. Through cultural osmosis. because i never even saw that movie
