8. Hi! I'm looking for this fic where wwx and lwj are thrown into an arranged marriage together, and don't know each other. Wwx is generally happy and excited, and lwj sees this and immediately hates him, bcoz he wanted a calm, quiet spouse to live with. The whole thing is orchestrated by Madam Yu, who basically abandons wwx at cloud recesses bcoz she figures he would be miserable here. Lwj doesn't like him to or try to understand him, so wwx slowly gets more and more depressed and suicidal, kind of as a parallel to Madam lan. I think he tries teaching for a while, and he's very good at it, but the elders step in and claim he's corrupting the children, so that's that. He finds the yin iron, and plans to destroy it worth a circle that will also take him out along with it, but before he can go through with the plan lwj realises how depressed he is and starts making an effort to help him. The fic ends with lwj offering to run away from cloud recesses with him, and wwx telling him no, he doesn't want to be some sort of shameful indulgence, if lwj really wants him he'll stay and fight with the elders on his behalf @arsonistbydaylibrarianbynight

9. Hi! For the next Fic Finder, I’ve been trying to find a fic where LWJ leaves the CR to go help WWX in the Burial Mounds. It kind of starts of with LWJ and WWX confrontation after WWX rescues the Wens. There’s a sequence where LWJ is gathering stuff to take to the Burial Mounds. Then in later chapters it’s LXC, LQR, and a couple of Lan Elders going to Yiling to try and bring LWJ back to the CR. They find him in Yiling, selling produce, only to discover that LWJ is living a happy life with WWX and is no longer following Gusu Lan’s rules as he lets a bunch of kids decorate his hair. Sorry this is super long. I can remember what happens in the fic, but for the life of me I can’t remember the title. Thanks a bunch!

11. Hi! This is for fic finder. I honestly dont remember if it was a fanfic from this fandom or a chinese bl novel i red years ago. It didnt help that i dont remember much of the story. I will call them mc and ml (if it was a fanfic, wwx is the mc). They are an actor. The mc got a big role and there are a sex scene in the film with the ml. And then the mc catch a feeling to the ml. The plot of the movie they shoot is where the mc always running away. The movie plot kinda resobate with the mc feeleng. And the writting style is tell a twi stoey. The movie plot and the fic. Long story short, the mc get kidnapped. I dont remember if its trully happen or the movies's plot but i think the mc was genuinely kidnapped. The kidnapping is meticulous that make people tell the ml to brace himself for the worst case scenario. The ml helped to find the mc. In the end, the mc is found but in the bad shape. Near the end of the story, they are in shooting where the plot is the ml found the mc. They hugged and the staff say that it feels genuine.

What is below the cut is a list of some extra headcanons (+ Relationship Dynamic Headcanons) for MDZS.

FOREWARNING! I do not ship bash, nor do I tolerate it. If your opinions on ships and their relating dynamics differ from mine, that's okay! I may have ships of my own that I prefer to be romantic, while you may think the opposite, and vise versa. THAT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL. Just, for the love of the gods, do not bash the ships. They are fictional characters, who cares that much?

It is rather short as of now, but hopefully that will be rectified! if you have any ideas or headcanons of your own that you wish to add, please feel free to say them!

Extra Headcanons

The stronger your cultivation level, the more you are able to do that others may not realize is possible. For Example, if a cultivator’s spiritual power is high enough, they can make their spiritual weapon turn into a tattoo somewhere on their body.

The Sect Leader outfits are like those of the game version, or at least more intricate than how they are perceived in canon.

Cultivators are known to have very long lifespans, long enough to where someone in their 90s would be considered young. The longest a cultivator (who wasn’t immortal) lived was recorded to be 328 years old.

Relationships (Romantic/Platonic)

They had developed a crush on each other during their time at the Cloud Recesses but only acted on those feelings in a moment of shared grief after Wei Ying’s death. They dated for a few years but ended up ending things when Huaisang became too distant after his brother’s death. They still ended up staying friends, though, and later became sworn brothers.

Being sworn brothers was not intended to be a secret, but they also never said anything about it (but they also didn’t hide it either, people were just either completely blind to it, or thought they started dating again).

Xiyao (Romantic(?) → Enemies(?))

They had feelings for one another, but unlike Sangcheng, they never fully acted on them, as Lan Huan was a sect leader and Meng Yao was (for a little while) only classified as the “son of a prostitute” by others. The way their relationship was shown to others only became closer when Meng Yao was publicly/formerly accepted into the Jin Clan and became Jin Guangyao.

There was a time when they were in a “situationship” of some sort, but it never got any further than that as Jin Guangyao was quick to put an end to anything since he was set to marry Qin Su (his sister 🤢) in the coming months.

During the following years, Lan Huan never completely lost feeling for the other until the events at Guanyin Temple happened and Jin Guangyao’s masterplan was revealed in front of all of them.

Jin Guangyao has a hard time determining his exact feelings for Lan Huan. He can’t entirely say that he was in love with him, but he can admit that he did have feelings for him, even if it was only a small amount and lasted for not even a year

Jin Guangyao knew of Lan Huan’s feelings for him and used them for his benefit.

Zhancheng (Rivals(?) → Familial/Platonic)

While they were younger in the Cloud Recesses, they felt as if they had to compete against each other for the attention of Wei Ying, so in consequence, they didn’t like each other too much.

During the three months that Wei Ying was gone and they went on all of those search missions together for him, they began to get closer. 

When Lan Zhan was out of his (forced) seclusion, he asked Jiang Cheng for help in order to raise a child (Lan Huan bugged him about asking the Sect Leader since they were both single parents and similar in age). He was reluctant about it at first because of the falling out they had during the Burial Siege, but they started to get closer after a few months.

Jiang Cheng knew immediately that “Lan Yuan” was actually Wen Yuan, but he didn’t say anything about it. 

During the times when both Lan Huan and Lan Zhan would be away on official business, Jiang Cheng would be the one to take care of Lan Yuan if the boy couldn’t go with the Twin Jades. While the boy was at Lotus Pier, he was taught to swim and had small playdates with Jin Ling (as well as following Jiang Cheng like a little duckling all around YunmengJiang).

A little Zhuiling ramble

Dark!Lan Sizhui is one of my favourite things to write but it can be a challenge for me. Keeping the balance between his darker thoughts and the outwardly nice, ideal disciple image he portrays. To show he’s dark not because he’s a Wen. And on the flip side that there can be a dark side to being a Lan too. To me, the root of his darkness isn’t a want for revenge, not purely at least, but a desire to protect and maintain what he has, as someone who had little to call his own. It is a need to love as singularly as a Lan, and as intensely as a Wen.

Speaking of what he has. The relationship I like to focus on is his one with Jin Ling - someone who Lan Sizhui has accepted into his life by choice. It’s implied that he spends more time with him after the main story concludes, enough that he even absorbs Jin Ling’s fighting style, and takes punishments from his sect because he goes on night hunts with his friends so often. Jin Ling is very much like him, closest to the heart of the Sunshot Campaign, but young enough at the time to have not been involved in the fighting and machinations. They grew up as polar opposites, one coddled and spoiled, the other in the burial mounds and later raised in a strict sect. They definitely have a lot to learn from each other, and can help each other grow through their similarities yet different perspectives.

Those differences would definitely frustrate Lan Sizhui but also intrigue him, because Jin Ling pushes back. Jin Ling looks at his perfect-discipleness and then acts like a little shit, he doesn’t praise easily or defer to him like the rest of his peers. He’s hard-won. He challenges Lan Sizhui’s stance on demonic cultivation, because to Jin Ling it’s personal. Jin Ling expresses his emotions freely without care of consequence. He doesn’t care that Lan Sizhui is the leader of the Lan juniors, he’ll jump in front of him and declare that he’ll kill any ghost for him.

And Lan Sizhui would be drawn in by that. This person whose family is the enemy of his, who protects him so earnestly and makes his blood boil. Who is unfailingly kind despite his sect’s influence and spoiling, and genuinely wants to help the common people just like he does - something a lot of those in power have forgotten. I've got two excerpts from my masquerade AO3-posted WIP, two from a divorced coparents NieYao fic hopefully being posted in 2025, one from a NieLan Fandom Trumps Hate fic being posted sometime in the next two weeks, and one random ZhuiLing fic in which Jin Guangyao is thrilled that his nephew wants to marry the only polite boy in the jianghu, but the other parental figures have some concerns. OH and also one from a short oneshot collection in which 3zun and SXX are romantically split up and paired up with their narrative foils. SzunXzunXjun, as it were.

My word is WONDERS.

W - “Well, I’m not gonna lie—my stomach feels pretty bad. Almost as bad as Uncle Sangsang’s that time we went out for Spanish dim sum—” “Tapas,” Juliang corrected with an exasperated giggle. “You remember, right? ‘Oh, Liangliang, I can’t move, my tummy hurts so bad. I can’t even take one more bite so you have to finish my flan or else I’ll make myself sick.” It was uncanny.

O - “Old families will sometimes keep spiritual weapons as mementos,” Song Lan pointed out. “They don’t have to license them if the weapon is deemed unusable, but they can be repaired. And the Jin are an old family.”

N - Nie Huaisang waited. He shivered again, performatively, and mused aloud that he should have taken Jin Guangyao up on that offer of coffee—maybe he could have just a sip? Jin Guangyao handed over his mug without a word. What do you know, Nie Huaisang? he thought. More importantly—what do you want?

D - “Da-ge is unhappy because he thinks you don’t like him,” Huaisang said impatiently. “He thinks you’re only pleasant to him because you’re pleasant to everybody. He told me to stop complaining when you go off to Cloud Recesses, because he thinks if you want to be there instead of the Unclean Realm, then it would be cruel to make you feel guilty about it.”

E - “Eloping,” Sizhui. He glared at Hanguang-jun. “We can’t elope in front of everyone we know!” Jin Ling protested weakly, with a nervous glance at shushu, whose polite smile had frozen on his face. “Oh, yes we can.”

R - “Remember, we’re hosting lunch and board games on Sunday.” “A-Yao,” Xue Yang groaned. “If financial stability means we have to give up the living room lube in favor of Sunday board games, then I don’t want it.”

S - (Sometimes, when Meng Yao had had a particularly hard week or a particularly strong drink, he complained to Xue Yang that all of this felt a bit silly given that by the time he was nine years old, he had become well-accustomed to being left in the apartment overnight while his mother went to work, let alone for a few hours after school. “That’s what you fucking get for joining the middle class, babe,” Xue Yang cackled without a hint of sympathy.)

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care about anymore? I think probably Alec Scutter/ Maurice Hall from Maurice but I wouldn’t say I don’t care about them anymore

2. Which ship would you consider your first one? I had to think about this really hard. I don’t remember if it was George and Susan San Francisco from Alien Nation or Maurice Hall and Alec Scutter from Maurice.  I loved both of these couples fiercely but especially the former I haven’t even thought of until I started thinking about this. 

3. Your first fanfic was about which couple? I didn’t ever write it down till much later

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw fanart of? I apologize to artists – I do not!!

5. Have you ever gotten into ship discourse? With my social anxiety? Heavens no.

6. Did you use to have any NOTP or have one currently? I guess I do but I honestly don’t think about it too much. Like I don’t read those ships but honestly can’t be bothered to block any content because I don’t care that much.

7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read? WeiLan from Guardian (Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan)

8. Currently, do you have any OTPs? SO MANY (can one have multiple One True Pairings?  Yes, yes you can).  ZiNing (Ouyang Zizhen /Wen Ning) is my absolute number one.  But I also passionately love ChuGuo, BigTay, ChanPol, XiYao, YaoYang (CLs Yao and Ouyang), ZhuiLing, and Qin Su/Bicao.

9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together? Okay so this is a bit of a deep cut and I refuse to google the names of the characters lest it upset me again. I adore the actor Rupert Graves (Probably because he plays Alec Scutter) and he was in this movie called Dreaming of Joseph Lees.  His character has sooooo much chemistry with the female lead and they are so good together. But in the end she goes back to her horrible and cruel husband because he’s been injured or something I don’t remember.  I just remember I was sooooo mad and it still upsets me to think about it now.

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting? I mean probably if you have a really wide definition of ship and it encompasses my whole life of imagining fictional characters together. But I can’t think of one right now.  

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, would've been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over? I can’t think of anything. 

12. What is your favorite crack ship? People consider YaoYang to be a crack ship but like I don’t think I could be so passionate about them if I thought that. I am not writing them as a pairing as a joke.  I think the first time I wrote them seriously (a fic called A Call to Arms) I started it as a joke and a way to play with unreliable characters. But I ended up sort of getting in their heads and now I love them so much. Because I think people in my life find me annoying and a little too much of a know-it-all (who is often wrong about things) so I kind of identify with CL Yao in a way.  So but yeah I guess technically this is my favourite crack ship?

13. What is the couple you read the most fanfics about? Honestly, I guess WangXian just because there are the MOST of them. 

14. What do most of your ships usually have in common? Hmmmm.  I think, and maybe this is in all ships?, that each of the characters sees something in the other that no one else can. Like maybe everyone else thinks they are annoying (lol YaoYang) or just a sweet sexless cinnamon roll (ZiNing), or for whatever reasons the characters don’t think they deserve love or that anyone could love them.  I think that’s the thing.

15. What you absolutely hate in a ship? This is hard for me to answer because the whole point of fiction is that you can like things that would be terrible in real life.  So a dynamic that would suck irl could be a great ship dynamic?  I guess I don’t have an answer.

Just had an ‘accidental time travel’ thought where Jin Ling and Lan Sizhui suddenly wake up in present-day China but find out it’s only them who got sent to the future

How exactly? I don't understand how they're called cousins i mean wei wuxian and jiang yanli aren't blood related siblings and so the relationship between wwx and jl isn't blood related too. And sizhui was originally a wen, he was adopted by lwj and he isn't blood related to either wwx or lwj. So i don't think they're 'cousins' at all.

My shipper eras in mdzs

The first one was with wangxian

The first adaptation of mdzs that I consumed was the manhua, once I caught up with the manhua I watched the two seasons of the donghua that were on youtube, then I read the novel, and then I watched the third season of the donghua on wetv (I haven't got to see the untamed), well, when I was starting the novel, I had a kind of obsession with wangxian (in which I came to read practically all the wangxian fanfics in Spanish on wattpad), during this era I also really liked wwx I mean, I still like him, but before he was even my favorite character

The second was the xicheng era

I discovered the ship because it used to be a secondary ship in many wangxian fanfics, and since when I finished the novel jc became my favorite character and I wanted to read things about him and his dynamic with lx was smth i liked a lot, XiCheng was my god for a while

The third was the era of allcheng

In this era I just decided that it was fair and reasonable for everyone to want to fuck jc.

The fourth was the era of zhuiling

I also discovered zhuiling for being a secondary ship in other fanfics, the only thing I thought about was "oh god they are adorable" and I melted with tenderness with some soft fic

Zhuiling opened the door for the era of zhuilingyi hot

yes, hot, why? Well, I got to read junior trio porn, it's that simple (if it consisted of ls and lj giving jl love, even better)

The sixth era was lingyi

It was when I became obsessed with that dynamic of constantly fighting but worrying about the other.

Number 7, xicheng (but with dark lx)

dark lan xichen fucking jc was my only thought for days, with that i tell you everything

The last one that really lasted me a long time was xiancheng/chengxian (mostly xiancheng for me)

with this ship everything was angst and porn, angst and porn, and sometimes something soft, only sometimes

Someday i'll write a top 5 or 10 ships or characters 😔
