Also part of the wider setting, Zenti. She does a great deal of magic nonsense as she tedtalks on the side here. You know, critical world building material.

Cosa succede in Italia? TRANSLATION When a woman comes to work in Italy from abroad, the first thing that strikes her is the creeping sexism throughout society and particularly in the workplace. Why am I telling you about this? Partly because of an exchange I had recently on social, partly because I just finished listening to Jonathan Zenti Estadeli's excellent podcast, which I highly recommend you follow I will also put the link then in the program notes. What is happening in Italy? What happens in Italy is that there is this perception that certain comments are permissible to make. You make these comments abroad as well, but the difference is that if you make such a comment in Australia in the workplace you leave, or at any rate you are subjected to a process, in the sense of a disciplinary procedure. Here, in Italy it is not, because there is a perception that certain comments are not only not offensive but are 'neutral'? So, e.g., one says look at that one there how ugly that dress looks on her, look at that one she's fat and so on or one makes comments about her alleged sexual availability, because I put them on the same level comments about clothing, about a woman's shape or her availability to go all the way to harassment, that's it, they think that's the neutral degree of expression, they think they are not offending anybody, that they are simply stating what it is, describing the reality . I think people are convinced of this because otherwise they would not make certain statements, I don't know, on public television, I think of certain comments of sports commentators, who were making horrible comments about the physical appearance of female athletes and they were doing it publicly, they were not even pretending to hide because they thought, I'm not doing anything wrong, I'm simply commenting on what I see. Here, this is the toxic culture that there is in general in Italian society and then of course, because it is everywhere, it is also found in the workplace. What to do? What we can do is not to tolerate and when we see these comments being made, especially when they are not directed at us, we should intervene, we should say something we should point it out. Why especially when they are not directed at us? Because often the person who is at the center of these comments is left feeling terrible about it, they don't know how to respond in the moment, a humiliating thing, it's a hurtful thing, you don't always have the quick thinking, so instead we, who are aware of it, should intervene and we shouldn't let one pass, because that's the only way to change the toxic sexist culture that is rampant in Italy. And believe me, it really is. If you scrape underneath even unsuspected people make the offensive comment. @ithillia you always know how to word my problems with the fandom.
It really saddens me that you can't talk about the characters without someone going karentraviss over them. I want blorbo blurbs, not worrying about the fictional character's social status based on real life and feeling shame for enjoying a FICTION.
If I had tell you that I have dealt misogyny in my past workplace or in my family, you wouldn't give half as shit than you make a fuss about fictional characters. Because I'm a real person, I'm more abstract to you than Etain, or Ilippi or Besanny. You wouldn't take me seriously, you wouldn't raise a finger for me as a person, but you would kill over fictional women you don't even respect because "they are all cardboard plates" to you and you conveniently decide who is a good woman representation and who is just "karen traviss". Fuck off with your perfect women representation!
Who the fuck are you to tell who is a good women representation???
I don't want perfect women! I want my lonely city-girl Besanny! I want my not beautiful Etain with self-esteem issues and horrible life-choices! I want my collateral damage Jilka! I want my confident badass scientist Uthan who survived in isolation for three years and who dyes her hair! I want Ruu who made up with her father after all those years! I want old snarky widow Ny to find love! I want badass Ilippi who dared to divorce from his husband when she felt it was enough! These are the women you call cardboard plates.
I want Ordo and Besanny or Fi and Parja be happy in canon, and I can make Ordo stupidly gay for his boyfriend and Fi a fuckboy in my fictions simultaneously however I want!
Seriously, you act like the author pairing up her own characters are the most sinful act a person can do, when you do the same on tumblr, shipping blorbos.
fucking hell.
I just can't take this fictional misogyny debate seriously.
...
...
Yes. I held this in for a very long time. I'm not sorry.

[Part I]
Laeema: But what about Kom’rk? He vanished hours ago. What if he really run away from home or got hurt? Shouldn’t we go look for him too?
Vau: No need to worry, Laseema. Kom’rk is safe, I assure you.
Laseema: You know where he is?!
Vau: Of course. He’s hiding in my room?
Jilka: But why there?
Vau: Because this is the last place Kal will check out.
Jilka: Smart.

The art market I went to this past weekend had a lot of really cool offerings. I wish I had the funds to buy everything I saw, alas. It was very difficult to choose from all the stalls that were there (80 different artists attended). In the end, I purchased a tote bag and three prints for my Chaos Wall from Sir Gregory & Co., three shop illustration prints from Zenti Designs, a linocut of Chaotic Good Designs' Cat, Jon Snow, an upcycled bag from Kimono Yamamoto, an illustrated book for my partner's goddaughter from La Source Australia, and a silver boundary bracelet from Mill Foundry.
There were just too many excellent artists, though. I was a bit overwhelmed on the day. I hope everyone did really well with their stalls, there seemed to be a lot of people just being drawn in via local foot traffic when we were leaving to venue.

Jilka: Let me get this straight. Skirata found out by accident that Kom’rk is a gay and so he freaked out. Kom'rk freaked out because Skirata freaked out and then vanished without a word and he doesn’t respond to any comlink calls. Then you on purpose freaked out Skirata even more by talking how desperate kids, when rejected by family, may run away from home, or worse, commit suicide and this is why panicked Kal is running around home in the middle of night?
Vau: Yes.
Jilka: You are a sick bastard Vau... I RESPECT that.
