With Royal Ceremony, We Welcome You
I finished my gift for @noctusfury (or @herbyuki)! It is a "long" oneshot by me, and it is HakiZana! I know you've been working hard to give us a HakiZana Week coming up, and I read your and Els' cowritten first chapter of a fic, and I was surprised to see that you made yourselves into Haki and Izana's children! So, I thought, you would enjoy a fic, with them as parents too! :) Also, you get a bonus side of ZenYuki, which I thought you would also enjoy!

Y’all I was bored so I made a demon slayer OC
(Actually I made like 16 but these two are the main attractions okay 🥰)
Meet Charlotte (right) and Calypso! (left)
(Yes I named one of them after me deal with it 🙄🤚💅)
Warnings: mentions of SH, forced sūi¢ide, and death
Info abt them!! :)
-Her favorite color is purple, (if you can’t tell) mainly because it was her mother’s favorite color.(but she also thinks the color is really pretty)
-She always has some sort of assortments of flowers in her hair, they can be any color, but most if the time they are either purple, blue, or dark pink.
-She has a star tattoo on her left cheek, because of her father’s profession. He studied the stars, and he sometimes took her outside with him to look at the constellations and different patterns in the sky at night when it’s darkest.
-She has a flower eyepatch to cover an injury when she was younger. She had hurt herself while carelessly playing with her mother’s katana, which left her eye almost blind. She can still see out of it, but barely. She prefers to cover it up, however.
-The white streak in her hair is a form of vitiligo, but instead of it affecting her skin, like her mother, it affects her hair. (She really likes her white streak becoming she thinks it unique)
-Her mother also used to be a demon slayer, a powerful one at that, but she retired shortly after having her younger sisters. Her husband’s mysterious death also affected this decision.
-She has an older brother, and two younger twin sisters. Her brother is three years older than her, and her sisters are both five years younger. (She also has a step sister from when her mother remarried)
-At this current state and time, she is twenty-one years old, and stands at about six feet four inches. (Literally like two inches shorter than Tengen😭)
-Her skin is light compared to her mother, brother, and one of her twin sisters, who have more of a dark mocha complexion.
These are the names of her family members!
(Left to right)
Callum (🕊️), Ezra, Charlotte (herself), Larissa, Maeve, and Aurelia! (Not including the step sister because she’s a snake 🙄) (also she lives in a family of giants 😭) her sisters are short lmao
-In her free time, she enjoys casually singing to herself, or reading romance or mystery novels. She also sometimes walks through her mother’s zen garden, just listening to the quiet wind.
- She also sometimes plays games with her younger sisters, who enjoy her company when their brother won’t play with them. They mostly play hide and seek or make paintings, or just walk outside and enjoy the sun while talking.
-She became a demon slayer after her brother was ambushed by a few in the woods, but was saved by another slayer. While he was healing Charlotte when to her mother and asked to tell her more about demons and the demon slayer corps., which ended up in her mother training her to become one.
-But, since her father had died, her mother could not protect her from any suitors in her village who wanted to pursue her.
-She ended up being engaged to a snob of a man, but he ended up cheating on her with her step sister. He didn’t show up to the altar anyhow, so she decided to just ditch the wedding and run away.
-She took her mother’s old katana, and ran away from the village, but not without leaving her family a note to where she was going.
-She lived aimlessly in the woods for a while, until stumbling upon a wisteria plant. She tucked it in her hair, thinking it was pretty, but didn’t know it kept demons away until one tried to attack her, then it backed away from her once it saw the wisteria in her hair.
-Fast forward to present day, she is a Hashira. She uses Dahlia breathing (something I made up 😘), and is very close to Tengen and Rengoku.
-Whenever she is on a little vacation, she always visits her family back in her home village. (Her step father and sister got kicked out ✨) She also visits the lovely little flower shop in their village, and has taken a liking to a certain florist who works there. 😏
(The florist in question) His name is Noah :)
I’m going to kms is they don’t get married and have kids together omfg
-Whenever she visits the flower shop, Noah always has a bouquet of one flowers ready for her. (Purple Dahlias, Butterfly Snapdragons, Fuchsias, Orchids, or Forget-Me-Nots.)
-Mitsuri and Shinobu always tease her whenever she brings home a bouquet, saying that they want to meet her “secret flower supplier”. She always gets embarrassed when they ask and gets all flustered.
-She is very close to the butterfly children (Kanao, Aoi, Kiyo, Naho, and Sumi), and often spends time with them. They remind her of her younger sisters, and make her feel less homesick.
-On stormy nights, mainly when Shinobu is away, she often goes to comfort them. The butterfly triplets always beg her to read them a story, while Kanao and Aoi prefer to hear her sing them a lullaby. She usually ends up doing both, and they’re all asleep right as the song ends.
-She was one of the last Hashira alive, and often spent her days visiting Uzui and Giyuu. Sanemi came to visit a few times, mainly to reconcile for the past.
-Calypso is, you guessed it, a demon. She is a purebred demon, which means she was born and conceived by one. No one is sure if her age, family, or origin, however.
-It is believed she has some sort of tie or connection to Charlotte Takahashi, whether spiritually or by blood, no one is really sure or has come up with an answer.
-Her blood demon art is “Starlit Frontier” (Referring to space). Some abilities include; Siren Song, Zero Gravity, Supermassive Star, Cosmic Blind, and Universal Pressure. I’ll explain each of these abilities.
-Siren Song is used for hypnosis/manipulation. She can use her voice to put anyone, demon or slayer, into a sort of dazed or hazy state. The sound of her voice will be irresistible to them, making her able to control them very easily. She can make them do absolutely anything she wants, including snapping their own necks. She rarely uses it, though.
-Zero Gravity is pretty self explanatory. She can either make everything around her float and use it to her advantage, or make herself float. She uses this one a lot, mainly because she likes floating in the air and flying around.
-Supermassive star is one of her more dangerous abilities. She can fuse her hands together and make a ball of light, sometimes as hot as the sun and as heavy as a neutron star, and stretch it to mass quantities. She doesn’t exceed more than five feet, however, since the results would otherwise be catastrophic.
-Cosmic blind is an ability where she can flash someone with immensely bright light and temporarily blind them, or make them permanently blind. Whichever she chooses. She can control how bright the light is, and how the results pay out.
-Universal Pressure is also very dangerous. She barely uses this one except in very, very dire circumstances. How this ability works is that she can build up energy inside her and trace it down to her hands, and she directs them at her target and then the ground. What happens is that her target feels an immense amount of pressure on top of them. Sometimes it’s not enough to break bones, but other times it can turn her desired victim into meat putty in moments.
-Calypso prefers to use her more harmless abilities, like Siren Song and Zero Gravity.
- It is widely believed that she has a strong fascination with a certain demon she met in the forest. The two of them are very close.
Going to jump off a cliff if they don’t get married
-If I’m being honest, her personality does not fit her power. 😭 She’s introverted, and actually very shy. She likes to remain quiet and is quite skittish. She’s surprisingly powerful. And she’s also not very good at socializing.
-She often likes to find open areas of land (preferably a beach) to gaze up at the stars and planets. She could sit for hours in one spot, just gazing at the night sky. She has memorized every constellation to be seen, and knows what stars appear in which season. She also happens to know when certain planets align.
-There tells of a legend of a demon who fell from the stars, who was given extraordinary gifts. She felt back when earth was still a young planet. After many eons alone, she found a lover. They went on to have many children and descendants, who would become powerful and revered.
-Calypso was born in that line. No one can trace her back to her direct family members, only to the demon who fell from the stars. Charlotte Takahashi was born around the time when Calypso was, as well. Her blood can also be traced back to Calypso’s ancestor.
-Her pupils are meant to signify a broken heart, hence the line in the middle of them. Her eye color represents the dark void of space and the galaxies and universes in it.
-Her horns are meant to signify the zodiac sign Aries, the Ram. Which also happens to be her zodiac. (And Charlotte’s) (irl and my OC)
-Her hair is a mixture of purple and dirty blonde, the purple is said to be tied with her connection to space and other galaxies, while the dirty blonde is her regular hair color.
-Her skin is a purple-ish hue, and if touched, it feels like the petals of a fresh dahlia flower basking in the sun. She also emits a light, sweet lavender scent from her person at all times.
-Her flower crown was a gift from the demon she befriended. She now wears it wherever she goes.
-She has a birthmark in the shape of a star, and a scar on her right eye, along with a little white streaking through her hair. (Similar to Charlotte Takahashi…)
-Her claws are made of pure obsidian, and each have an amethyst tip at the end of them. Very sharp. One swipe can cut a hand clean off, bone and all.
-Her tail can kind of be used as a third hand. She can grab things with it and can use it in combat. (Usually for balance, or as a whip)
-She wears a shortened version of a kimono, (she ripped off the bottom half to have better movement in combat) and has a breastplate underneath it.
-Her gloves (wrist sleeves?) cover up the scars of SH. She rarely takes off her gloves anymore, mainly because she doesn’t want anyone to find out or know.
-She made her shoes herself, and wanted to make them look “stellar!” as she put it. (Hence the stars in them. Cause you know- stellar? star?)
-The scars and cuts on her legs are mainly from previous encounters with various demon slayers. And also from how clumsy she can be from running through the woods.
That’s all for now! I hope you guys like them. And if you do, maybe I can post some content about them! If you’d like. :)
@meowzfordayz I just wanna give Calypso a big hug SHES SO ADORABLE WAAAAAAAA

The Great Chain, Chapter 5
The Hierarchy of Beings | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4
Written for @nebluus for her birthday! It was a MUCH WELCOME break to have something non-obiyuki to work on during bingo, especially to play with HMH, even if this did turn mostly into two OCs having a nice chat with one another XD
Ambassador Prak is punctual, as would be expected from a man raised to the grace of Chanvaty’s gaze, sharply dressed and not a hair out of place. He favors the style of these heathen lands, mirror-shined boots and indecently tight pants, as well as the ridiculous high-collared coats that they wear. She peers at him through a haze of gold, and with the same swiftness as the God’s breath, decides that the costume is not entirely unbecoming. After all, he is here to live among the heathens, to learn their ways so that he may better come to understand what value they can be to Wati. Imitation is but one tool through which trust may be forged.
“I must admit, Most High,” he says, bowing at the waist as these heathens do, “I did not expect your summons. Nor your...request.”
She nods, and ah, it is strange to talk to a man with no screen between them, nor a woman of proper birth to serve as their go between. It is only she and him and the God’s breath around them.
“Nor should you,” she agrees gracefully. “It is not a whim I am accustomed to having. However--” he lips curl behind her veil slyly-- “I have been told that it would be beneficial for the vessel which houses what is most womanly and sacred if I were to...take in the gardens.”
His neck cranes up, brows raised nearly to his hairline. She grits her teeth. In her brother’s court, a man would lose his head for such blasphemy.
Here, she can expect no such justice.
“Is that so?” His voice is strained from the angle.
“It is.” She draws herself straight on her seat, shoulder rolled proudly back. “Do you find that strange, Ambassador?”
“No, no, not at all,” he assures her. “It is common for the ladies of the court to take a daily turn about its pathways.”
"Am I not a member of the same court?” If she were her brother, she would raise that single, dangerous brow, but she settles for tapping a displeased finger. “Should I not partake in their preferred pastimes?”
“I...” His jaw shuts with a quiet snick. “Of course, Most High.”
“Then come.”
She stands, though not without difficulty. Her brother always had a strong presence, moving with the grace of a warrior and the gravitas of a god. She is neither, levering herself to her feet only by virtue of the rests on either side of her arms. Still, her ambassador is awed when she holds out a hand. “It is time that I walk on my own two feet.”
The pace the ambassador sets is slow; so slow she assumes he mocks her until she sees the other pairs that promenade down the garden paths. It makes some sense, in a way-- this is, after all, an activity of leisure, not exercise. Though even with the veritable crawl he sets, her feet ache mere minutes after their start. By the time he suggests a rest to smell the roses, it has spread all the way up her legs, even into her hips.
“Thank you,” she pants, bending over a large, ruffled bloom. Through the veil she can hardly smell it, but she’s glad for the excuse to linger, to let the burning in her legs subside. After all, she has not yet even begun to complete the business she set out to do on this walk.
“My pleasure,” the Ambassador assures her. “It is my great honor that you have brought me along as your particular companion.”
She straightens, examining another flower on a higher branch. “Is that not how it is done here? We have passed many pairs.”
“Yes, Most High. The paths are narrow, and the ladies prefer to keep their parties small, or plan to be paired.” Prak nods, leading her to another bush, one with a flower nothing like the last, but still labeled a rose. “Most choose to come with their closest female companions. However...”
She turns to him. “However...?”
“Ah, well...” He smiles, sly. “Some choose to take advantage of the garden’s more secluded nature and take a turn or two with their, ah, intended. Or perhaps, more accurately, their...intended intended.”
She stares for a long moment. “You mean assignations?”
His mouth twitches. “The court is quite young, Most High. They have a tendency to get into...shall we say...spirited follies.” He slants her a look from the corner of his eyes. “Perhaps you might invite Prince Zen on your next walk, should you enjoy this one.”
She is glad for the veil, for then no one can see how her jaw drops, how her face heats. To think that she-- that he--!
“I do not think that would be prudent.” Or enjoyable, she does not add. “And the prince must have other duties that need his attention.”
Prak barks out a laugh, muzzling it when she stares. “I think,” he says, careful, “that his most pressing duty is your attention, Most High.”
Her fingers hesitate on the bloom she holds, its silky petals slipping against her skin. “What do you mean?”
She is not used to being stared at in such a way, let alone by a man of the God, but the ambassador does, both brows raised. “Surely you have not forgotten, Most High, that the contract between our countries relies on whether you accept his suit.”
She had, entirely. After all, it was not as if her brother would welcome her home with open arms if she refused. He had made that clear enough before she left.
To return would disappoint the God. His face is as smooth and forbidding as any statue of the God, with the same chill as stone. You will stand in his shadow should you return to feel his light.
Her hand clenches in her sleeve. “Of course.”
Prak holds out his arm. They have apparently lingered enough. “It would not surprise me if the king had informed his brother that wooing you was his highest priority.”
She hesitates, her hand hovering in the air between them. This is how the others have walked, ladies arm-in-arm and gentlemen with hand either placed on top of or tucked into their elbow. This is what is polite here, what is expected.
But still, still. She is the sacred feminine, a child of the God himself. To touch another is to profane herself. To touch another is to spell their death.
Or that was what she had been told. But when she had laid a hand upon the prince he hand not burned, and when the concubine had looked upon her bare form--
Nothing. Perhaps this country is a sight too far for even Atar Wat’s gaze.
She lays down her hand, his coat rough beneath the sensitive pads of her fingers. “He has a strange way of showing it.”
“Has he not come to see you?”
“No.” It has been a relief; she had thought a man who loved his own voice so would importune her with it more often. “We spoke only the once. The first day.”
Were he not a man of dignity and gravitas proper to his station, she might say that Ambassador Prak was agog. “That was nearly a week ago.”
She shrugs a hand. “So you say.”
“Hah.” Prak hums, thoughtful. “Did you say anything to make him think you would not want his company?”
Until we are married, she had said, so sure, so proud, I will remain untouched by your eyes.
“Ah, there.” She points around a bend in the path. “Come, tell me the name of this flower.”
She might not be much of a hunter, but by the God’s grace, she still finds her quarry.
Mistress Shirayuki. Prak good humor is unfeigned when the woman startles, red tail whipping over her shoulder. I suppose it should be no surprise to find you here.
Ambassador Prak. The concubine stands, her smile more strained than his. Munkhtsesteg. Prak’s brow twitches at the name. I didn’t expect to have visitors.
We were only passing through, he assures her, slanting her a questioning glance as her hand tightens on his sleeve. Her Most High wished to see the gardens.
They are lovely this time of year. Or any time of year, really! The girl’s smile puts the sun to shame. She might be the god’s vessel, but it is she who is blinded when Shirayuki looks at her. I’m happy to see you’re taking my advice.
The ambassador’s brow twitches again, and she resists the urge to hunch in on herself, to become smaller as the lesser folk do in the presence of their betters. But there is no man or woman who can claim themself her better, save for her brother and the God, so she stands tall. Who is this man, born under the gaze of Rith, to question her?
I had thought it might be prudent to see these much vaunted gardens, she allows graciously. Since it seems this...promenading is the activity favored by the young ladies of this court.
The concubine nods, pulling at the thick gloves covering her hands. And what do you think?
“It’s vulgar,” she says, the disgust on her face masked by the weave of her veil. The concubine’s smile does not fade, but she glances up at Prak, brows raised in question.
Her Most High means that it is quite different from her brother’s court. Her glances down at her, mouth pinched. The transition between them if quite...difficult.
A politique answer from a politique man. She would have expected no less from their finest diplomat.
Oh? Shirayuki’s face is alight with interest. Are the gardens very different there? Do you have colder place to grow plant from other countries, or--?
Ah. Prak smiles, chagrined. I do believe Her Most High meant that the...activities are different, not so much the gardens.
But they are, she supplies, too eager. Come, you shall walk with us, and I will tell you of them.
The concubine stiffens, every inch of her pale skin blooming with crimson. She worries-- surely the girl would not be so gauche as to suffer apoplexy here, now, in the garden of her king.
Most High, the ambassador says, as harsh as a whip’s crack. Surely Mistress Shirayuki has duties to attend to.
Oh, no! When she looks again, the girl is smiling, wide and bright. I would be happy to come. I just need to finish a few things here first. Do you mind waiting?
Of course not. Her lips curve wickedly beneath her veil. There are times where even the God must hold his breath.
The girl’s gaze skitters to the ambassador before meeting hers again. Then I’ll be just a moment.

*cracks knuckles* Clearly I’m going straight for the Blackout.
ENJOY, FRIENDS. FOR YOU, I THROW IT UNDER THE CUT
Under 1000 Words
take my burdens (and bury them deep) by @thelionshymnal Rated M Nothing makes me happier than a fic of my favorite BroTP, especially when Obi is offering to disappear Kiki’s dirty dealings. Content warning for attempted sexual assault and Obi doing what he does best: getting rid of the body.
A Fic That Got You Involved In Fandom
Seven Suitors for Shirayuki by @sabraeal Rated T Look. You all are just going to have to accept that there is a certain generation of this fandom that was dragged in, kicking and screaming, by this fic. I wanted to diversify by saying something else managed it, but no. It was the fact that this story was stuck on chapter five for MONTHS that made me vibrate until my own fic fell out. XD
Made You Laugh Out Loud
An Extra Rise Before Dawn by @sabraeal Rated G I don’t often worry that I am going to pee from laughing so hard when I’m reading something, but this one definitely does. In one spot in particular. You might be able to guess it. It is simultaneously an incredible sweet and incredibly funny fic that hits all the right notes for me.
Favorite Trope Reversal
Fussing with Firedrakes by @leewritingrecs Rated T 1) Dragons. 2) Damsel in distress is no damsel and she is NOT in distress thank you very much 3) Kiki is a DRAGON 4) Obi is cursed, and 5) DID I MENTION D R A G O N S ???
Fic That Made You Friends With the Author
The Wide Florida Bay by @sabraeal Rated E I had to think about this because while I read Seven Suitors first, this was the series that made me start sending anons and eventually made me join tumblr where I proceeded to endlessly play the ‘what if’ game with Jen. CLEARLY this is where our friendship was forged.
Action-Packed Fight Scene
Agent, Parts I, II, and III by @infinitelystrangemachinex Rated T Like Jen, I was positively torn, because both Andi and Sarah do fight scenes SO WELL, but Agent ultimately won out because there is just something so delightful about Shirayuki flailing and clinging to Obi like a cat that doesn’t want to go in the bath while arrows zip all around them
Edit: Screw it, I’m reccing them both
Republic of Tanbarun by @claudeng80 Rated T An action adventure series where romance is involved but is by no means the focus. Zen and Obi adventures abound. Politics galore. And some masterfully done slow-motion to quick motion fight scenes that I L O V E D
Gen Fic
Fugue in Three by @infinitelystrangemachinex Rated G Ryuu casually destroys Obi and Shirayuki by breathing as they count down the days until he comes of age. Technically this fic has a romantic pairing, but it is by no means the focus of this fic. If you don’t agree, you are welcome to meet me under the Big Oak between the hours of 12 and 4 for a duel.
Missing Scene
Like Brothers Do by @claudeng80 Rated G Obi is clearly Kiki’s annoying big brother and handles Mitsuhide’s rejection in the best way he knows how. Also read: Mitsuhide gets what’s coming to him. (ง'̀-'́)ง
Canon Divergent
We work at the mall by @kaedix Rated T With how many AUs we got floating around this fandom, I was hard pressed to choose a favorite. But there is just something so sweet and wholesome and American teenager about this. It just latches onto you and never lets go. (Also the gang all work at my favorite places in the mall when I was growing up. What’s not to love?)
Steamiest Kiss
Were Hearts Not An Unknown Country by @sabraeal Rated T LOOK. SOMEONE was going to have to go dig this out of the rubble of her compilation fics and it might as well be me. Also the birthplace of the much loved AnS fandom practice of solstice kissing.
Contains Your Favorite Headcanon
The road to Clarines is Gravel by @codango Rated E Not the focus of the fic as a whole, but like, Torou and Obi are siblings. GALAXY MIND EXPLOSION. I mean, I loved that so much that I wrote a pre-canon fic of this fic. Additional note totally not related to the bingo square: I will ALWAYS be here for positive sex worker representation in fics. Fair warning, though, this is the most unfair AU in existence because the brain screams that it SHOULDN’T WORK and yet by some sort of writerly sorcery, it DOES. PLEASE READ IT IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY.
Wept Real Tears
let it make you by @thelionshymnal Rated M It’s not every day that someone manages to write a fic that makes me stare numbly at the very first line for a solid 15 minutes, big fat tears rolling down my cheeks, but Hymn did it. And then she somehow managed to kiss it better. All in 1100 words.
Free Space
AnS Role Swap AU by @owlsshadows Rated M This series has it all. Shirayuki as an assassin. Obi as both a royal bastard and a pharmacist. A mysterious meeting out in the woods where it makes you question whether Nanaki and Obi are two different people or the same. Also Zen having some very conflicted feelings regarding his royal authority and how he can choose to handle rejection.
Edit: Since I’ve already doubled up once, let me double up again, I have so much love to give and not enough space to give it!
Blizzard by @nebluus Rated T This is one of the earliest fics I read in this fandom and it remains to date one of my absolute favorites. Obi gets hurt protecting his Miss and a blizzard rolls in. Thankfully they find a cabin where Obi, who is definitely on his death bed if no one finds them and SOON, proceeds to still fuss over his Miss. Best scene: When he warms her hands with his. Also the second chapter is all sorts of delightful domesticity I IMPLORE you to please read it and soon.
Favorite Fan-Made OC
All Pain Will Turn to Medicine by @sabraeal Rated M All y’all should’ve seen these coming from ten miles out. I fucking LOVE Herr Anda, the cantankerous little bastard. And Jen knows this because she designed him specifically with me in mind. Academic catnap >:|
AU That Made You Find the Source Material
All Knotted Up by @sabraeal Rated G Admittedly, there are a great many AUs out there that made me look up the source material, but this Tangled AU is the most recent because I finally got on Disney+. And yes, Mitsuhide is the horse. Ryuu may be Pascal a little bit, but Mitsuhide. He’s The Horse. XD
First AnS Fic You Read
Loyalty by Evelyn Fiedler Rated K+ (which is basically G on AO3) My one and only ff.net rec from my earliest days in the fandom when I was combing for absolutely any content I could find, begging the fandom to help me decide if I was down for Obiyuki and all that it implied and this author most assuredly delivered.
Favorite Minor Character
Undertow by @jhalya Rated E The fic itself is a space odyssey of sorts. One mission among many where humanity attempts to colonize Mars. However the real selling point here, if you didn’t know, is Lord Seiran. He is a delightfully eccentric billionaire who clearly always wanted a large family, judging from how easily he fills out the adoption paperwork.
WIP
Caulk dirty to me by @leewritingrecs Rated E Have I mentioned I love the sex worker trope? I. Love. The. Sex. Worker. Trope. Also Obi is clearly divine at all of his jobs. Shirayuki already got to experience his skills at one of them. I wait with BAITED BREATH for her to experience the other :3
Canon Compliant
Thicker than Blood by @infinitelystrangemachinex Rated G In the aftermath of the death of King Kain, Izana and Zen must decide on which path they will take moving forward. Amazing fic. Unfinished, but a wonderful look into the dynamics between the Wisteria brothers and their absent mother.
One-Shot
Worth his Weight in Rice by @claudeng80 Rated T AU set in an Edo-adjacent Period where a disease has wiped killed off a significant portion of the male population. Resulting societal shifts occur. If you go into the comments, I have a couple of pages worth of reasons why I love this AU, but what I appreciate even more is how you have an absolutely perfect oneshot in this fic. It is a well-translated universe where we get a delightful clear, beginning, middle, and end, all in 5k. NOT an easy feat. Please enjoy.
Rare Pair
the fog pushing through my mind by @thelionshymnal Rated E Obi/Yuzuri, friends with benefits. Two pining idiots with some sore feelings decide to get stoned and take comfort in another warm body for the night. I just really enjoyed the casual intimacy of the encounter and how this is clearly neither of their first experiences with a one night stand. Neither of them are going to make it weird in the morning, they just need to take the edge off, ya know? Additional bonus for Obi being ready to stab the dumbasses who made Yuzuri feel like she was a weirdo in her past.
AU You Took a Chance On (And Now Love)
Lightning in a Bottle by @jhalya Rated M I mean, if Jules is gonna play dirty by making Obi the hot fish man running around without his shirt on 99% of the time, then of COURSE I’m going to enjoy Deep Blue Sea. It’s, like, one of my favorite movies now.
Favorite Trope
Moonshine Phantom by @leewritingrecs Rated T We got a murder muffin who ALSO used to be a sex worker? Sign me the fuck up, I am 1000% here for this. Also all the showgirls who clearly love their coworker and only want him and his adorable wife to have the best. They may have never heard of her before, but she looks sweet, and they all have a silent agreement between them that if she breaks his heart, they’ll cut her.
Fic That Gave You a New OTP
What the Heart Wants by @sabraeal Rated G Haruto/Mukaze. An attempted kidnapping and subsequent rescue makes Zen and Shirayuki painfully aware that their parents have had, at some point in their lives, sex. Izana may not be happy about someone banging his mom, but is HE rather pleased at having a new sister. >:3c
Pre-Canon
The Wolf in the Woods by @krispy-kream (YES I STILL HAVE THIS BOOKMARKED) Rated G Everyone knows that I have very delicate food feels and this ALMOST went under the Wept Real Tears category, but I like to spread out the crying as much as possible XD Shirayuki finds a boy at the edge of the wood and decides he needs something to eat. Filed under: Guaranteed to wreck me in 500 words or less.

Ooooo. Okay so what would Wisteria think of my OCs? I mean, she wouldn’t care about them; they aren’t Unknown, but still
Much like Unknown is, she’s got no care in the world beyond what she wants. There is a sense that she has tunnel vision and can only fixate on one notion and it does make sense given what she’s gone through to the point where she can’t even identify or wants to identify herself as Lila anymore. She’s very much got a one-track mind. All she can think about is the fact that she wants to stay close to Unknown and protect him. She would do anything to keep him from getting hurt, even get hurt himself in his stead, or hurt others or do what he does not have to waste his time on.
Mortality is chaotic when it comes to Wisteria. She would take one look at Eliza, and see someone like herself who is clearly “weak” but she would not be cruel to her about that. Eliza has use, she can be deceived to take down Zen, and that only helps Unknown. Risk, as chaotic as she is, would be of use as well as she cares for Seven, and she wants Unknown to be able to get rid of him. Risk has use like Eliza.
Has nothing against them. Just sees them as useful.
Probably has no ill will towards August, but the fact that he’s with V doesn’t look good on his part. Unknown has said plenty about that man, or at least, enough that she knows that he needs to go down like Seven. That’s not her place to do so, if she thinks she can trick him, she will. Morgan would be tough-y. She’s a clear realist and would probably see through Wisteria’s innocent princess acts, so, Wisteria would have to reveal her true sense. They would likely go back and forth. It wouldn’t be pretty. Morgan probably has the power to say something blunt enough to make Wisteria doubt herself, though.
Tasse wouldn’t really have a problem yeeting her across a room. So, there’s that going for them. Wisteria wouldn’t have a problem with them either, but they don’t hold much use since they’re close to Yoosung.
The thing is, she doesn’t have anything inherently against people. She just sees people as how useful they can be to help Unknown. It’s her twisted way of trying to protect him. The faster the RFA goes down, the faster he won’t have to suffer and she can stop feeling so angry and so tired and—
It’s wild, my dudes.

So I heard there was some talk about Zen needing more of a happy ending in the obiyuki verses! Very well, challenge accepted! My friend @bubblesthemonsterartist and I sat down to fix precisely that! Anything for some world-building and character creation 😈
Here we go! Zen marrying a foreign queen! I agreed with Joanna that he would surely do really well as a prince-consort, as excitable and driven as he is! He’ll be the easygoing to her strict, the extrovert to her introvert, the blush to her smirk~ It would do him well to humble, but also be humbled.
More to come later, bc this impulse design of ours has already garnered some interest on the discord 😘

Names in the Sunlight, Snow and Rain Series
I thought I would post my notes on the names for the four Akagami babies for anyone who might also be interested!
I love names; I have for years. For my twelfth birthday, my mom got me a book of baby name meanings because I had read the family’s old copy to tatters. So, of course, I spend way too long on OC names.
Ringo is the most obvious, since his name is discussed in-story. It’s Japanese for “apple” and is actually used to describe Shirayuki’s hair in the anime. In a way, Raj is naming his son that to remind himself of how far he’s come since meeting Shirayuki and of how important being a good and unselfish king for his people is.
(For those curious about Katan’s name: I got it from a minor Star Wars character. I literally picked it out from a list of female Star Wars characters because I liked the way it sounded. Tanburun has a slightly smaller proportion of characters with Japanese names than Clarines does, so I was trying to maintain that. I was also expressing my frustration with the fact that google searching “Obi” always turns up Star Wars results.)
Fujiko is also pretty straightforward. Since Zen is dead in this AU, Kiki and Mitsuhide named their daughter for him. One meaning of “fuji” is wisteria, so Fujiko just adds the common Japanese feminine diminutive to become “little wisteria.” (Mitsuhide’s overprotective reaction concerning his daughter should give you a hint about how well he’s processed Zen’s death, even years later.)
The origin of Orbia is also hinted in-story: Ryuu asked Obi and Shirayuki to name her after the orbia flowers with the colorful seeds that he gives to Obi. I also picked this name for her because it beautifully completes the family: Obi and Shirayuki, Shigure and Orbia.
Shigure’s name has the longest, most complicated history. I wanted a name that indicated some union between Obi and Shirayuki’s names. Unfortunately the meaning of Obi’s name is unclear because it’s only written in the phonetic Japanese alphabet and a single sound can have a number of meanings in Japanese. I looked up all the meanings associated with the two sounds in his names I could find and compiled the following list:
“o” can mean male, cherry blossom, thread, beginning, center, idea, sound, peace, cheerful, great, imperial
“bi” can mean beautiful, Japan, day, sun, truth, reality
Now if I were writing a fic solely based on the meaning of Obi’s name, I would probably assume that he made the name up. Getting everyone to call him “beautiful man” seems in keeping with Obi’s sense of humor, so I would probably go with “o” meaning “male” and “bi” meaning “beautiful.” Two things stopped me from doing that.
One, I don’t know enough about the Japanese language to say for sure, but I suspect that the kanji for “bi” that means “beautiful” is most commonly used for feminine names. Two, and more significant, that meaning didn’t help me pick a name for their kid at all.
While I was brainstorming, I looked up name meanings for other characters. I found out that Mukaze’s name meant “breeze.” I was thrilled: that meant he matched Shirayuki—they both have weather related names. And Obi had potential weather-related meanings for him name, too! The sound “bi” could mean “sun.” (I never did decide which meaning for “o” I would want to pair with it). It would be great to give Obi and Shirayuki’s son a weather name of his own. Meanwhile, my sister weighed in to opine that Shirayuki would definitely name all her kids after flowers. That made me think of the yura shigure because I had already seen the name “Shigure” used for another character. Looking up the meaning just cemented it for me. The name turned out to be pretty rare and also to refer to “a shower in late autumn.” If Shirayuki is snow (winter) and Obi is sun (summer) then “autumn rain” is the perfect name for their son!
I loved all my names so much that I incorporated them into my chapter titles, which I could go on ad nauseum about. I like to read this sort of stuff, so I’ll write it, but feel free to stop here if you’ve had enough.
Day 1 – The Sound of Sunlight on Snow
This is just a reference to Shirayuki and Obi.
Day 2 – Sun through the Cloudburst
Obi and Shigure, plus my trying to avoid using the word rain over and over. Honestly I wanted just the phrase “sun shower” for this chapter but it was too different from the others.
Day 3 – Thaw in the Springtime Showers
This where the titles start getting complicated. I wanted to have a chapter named after Shirayuki and Shigure, but I love Ryuu and wanted to include his name, too. Unfortunately, I could only find the phonetic alphabet version of his name (I don’t know if any other is ever revealed). Most commonly, “ryuu” can mean “noble, prosperous” or “dragon” in Japanese. Since spring is the growth season and also associated with the blue dragon of Chinese mythology, I thought that it would be a good season to represent Ryuu. Then the “thaw” could refer to Shirayuki’s winter (and to the thawing of Ryuu’s hurt and loneliness).
Day 4 – The King’s Harvest
This one’s easier but still complicated. Harvest refers to both Shigure and Ringo, since both apples and harvests are part of autumn. The king obviously refers to Raj’s station but also to the likely origin of his name: the Hindi word for reign or rule.
Day 5 – Windy Mountain Rain
I eventually decided to give the name reference in the title to Mukaze since he’s the reason that Obi and Shirayuki were there and the main inspiration for the prompt. (Plus Mihaya was too rare a name to figure out a meaning for quickly). The title is also a reference to one of my favorite songs from childhood: “Smoky Mountain Rain”
Day 6 – The Love of Flowers for the Rain
This one was all Fujiko and Shigure because of the prompt.
Day 7 – Colors Reflected in the Raindrops
Orbia is a made-up word as far as I can tell. I decided to use the word “colors” to reference the seeds, since the color of the seeds was an important moment for Obi. With this title, I started the series with Obi’s and Shirayuki’s names and ended with the names of their two children.
And that’s that! This was very indulgent, but I hope somebody enjoys it.

The Great Chain, Chapter 4
The Hierarchy of Beings | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
ANS Week, Day 3: Wind forceful | lively | unsettled | playful
In Wati, no man is allowed to look upon the Emperor’s concubines -- at least, no intact one. It has been centuries since any man was fool enough to try, but all the stories agree: should one gaze upon the forbidden garden of delights, his eyes will be burned for the shame of it, and his tongue cut out to quiet him.
At least, that is what is said. In practice, all things are different.
The eunuchs serve them of course, but so do the young boys of the kitchens, and should any woman be granted leave from the harem, a simple veil is enough to satisfy propriety. Plenty of her brother’s favorites had been allowed at court; seated behind a screen where only their shadows were glimpsed is where a great many of them made their plots. Women had been made and unmade by what they learned shielded by silk.
She, of course, was held to a different standard. The sacred feminine, she could not be spoken to by any man save His Most High, and none were allowed to look upon her.
Save the alchemist.
A screen sat between them at every one of their meetings, with a daughter of Visoth to speak for her, should the need arise. Which it often did; so much that her own brother had called it unseemly. It had not weighed well against the alchemist when his brethren finally brought him forward for his heresies.
But until then, Samay had been hers. A man eager to impart to her the life she might lead in the heathen lands, should this fool contract of her brother’s go though.
A helpful account, to be sure. But still, that had not been the information she most wanted to hear.
“Her Most High wishes to hear of the concubine,” a daughter would say, making the words ring against stone. “You must tell her again what vile tricks she might face.”
“None, none,” Samay was all-too eager to reply, shaking his head. “She is so very honest. So brave! There is nothing on this earth that gives her fear.”
She had, like a child, thought it was a warning. But now, as the concubine turns to her, unheeding of the danger when she leaves her back to that beast --
She understands.
“Guards!” she screams, so loud the walls must shake with it. The door flies open, Prak’s men piling into the room, followed swiftly by the Clarinese.
Her hands clench tight on the silk of her gown. They are men, a half-dozen all told, and here she sits, her sacred person indecently bared, but -- but --
It cannot matter, not when the beast stands in this very room, it’s talons aimed at Shirayuki’s back.
“It’s there!” She flings out an arm, finger shaking as she points. “It’s come to kill us!”
The unclean stares at Prak’s men, who only stare back, both at a loss. The Clarinese --
What did she say? asked one, head swiveling towards the Watese guards. I didn’t catch a lick of that.
I said, she grits out, shoulders curling in, that it has come to kill us.
This only seems to cause more confusion. Sir Obi?
She fixes her gaze on Prak’s head guard. “Do something!”
That, finally, moves them. The beast is quick, but he realizes their intentions too late --
Ah, it says, its vile mouth pressed to the floor. The concubine approaches with a level of gravity most royals born to the position spend their lives striving to achieve, crouching down with no hint of fear on her features. Looks like I should knock next time.
Shirayuki shakes her head, mouth lifting slyly at a corner. It looks like you should use a door next time.
She had not believed Samay when he spoke of the concubine’s strength, of her courage, but -- never has she seen someone talk to the unclean as she does. Her hands are steady against her thighs, gaze clear and fixed, mouth bent into a scolding smile. There is no fear in her, no derision.
All right. Shirayuki stands, brushing off her lap, humor drained from her expression. I am conducting an exam in here. It’s time for you all to leave.
But-- one of Prak’s men send her a worried glance-- Her Most High--
Was surprised, she decides firmly. Bora, it’s only Obi. You lost fifty dill to him just last week.
Oh, Miss, the unclean sighs, entirely too at ease with a knee at its back. What’s to say this isn’t revenge?
The guard peers down at it with a frown, then nods, helping the beast to its feet. I’ll win that money back, you know.
That’s what they all say, it drawls, insufferably smug, with a coy flutter of its eyelashes. It isn’t fair how very long they are. Nimol still owes me seventy.
Down from one-twenty, another guard protests.
The concubine hooks her hands over her hips, braced like a woman used to being heard. If you might all see yourselves out?
Even me? The unclean sashays nearer, hand pressed earnestly to its chest. It gives her the sort of looks hounds do when they know there is jerky in their master’s pockets.
Despite her forbidding expression, the concubine’s lips twitch. Especially you.
After such an honest mistake? it protests, pouting as she scoots it across the floor, encouraging it toward the window. Miss...
I know just how honest you are, Obi, the concubine informs it wryly. And in any case, you can’t stay.
My heart, it tells her, turning one last time on the sill, it’s broken--
You can ask Zen to kiss it better, she replies, whip fast. I’m sure he’s heard all about this by now.
The beast grimaces. But, Miss--
With a hand firmly planted on -- well, a place a concubine would be well acquainted with, save that this this was not the prince -- she helped it straight out the window, shutting it on its surprised yelp.
Now then, she says, mouth stretching wide in a smile. Where were we?
The concubine picks up her notes, skimming over them with a preternatural calm. Right, the exam. Do you still feel safe taking off your robe?
She wants to say no, to say how could I when my naked body was nearly a spectacle, but --
But the concubine sits there with an encouraging smile, gaze steady and unworried, and...it feels silly to not, even so.
The gown slips from her shoulders, each inch a further humiliation. It is good she is allowed the veil; no matter how kindly the concubine smiles, she would die rather than show her the tears that sting her eyes, that threaten to run red tracks down her cheeks. No gaze has ever fallen upon her sacred form, not in whole; even she herself has avoided laying eyes upon her own flesh.
But now she bares it for this woman, a rival --
Huh, the concubine breathes, brow furrowed. Is it all right if I touch you?
She recoils, every inch of her skin crawling at the very thought. The concubine throws up her hands, eyes wide, shaking her head. I don’t mean to offend you. I just need to see if it hurts.
She nods. It is a small concession to make, when she is already so exposed.
The girl reaches out, slender fingers grasping just behind her calf. It startles her; she had expected the difference between then to be stark: the concubine, born common, would have ruddy, work-roughened skin, with the same cast as their famed veined cheeses. She would be pleasingly bronzed, smooth to the touch, neither too dark nor too pale --
But in practice, Shirayuki is nearly as sun-kissed as she is -- which is to say, not at all. The only difference between them is the hint of rose or gold.
Do you go outside often? the concubine asks, fingers running clinically over the slight rise of her muscle. The daughters of Visoth had told her that she was the peak of feminine softness, but there is no such praise from Shirayuki’s lips, only something fretfully close to a frown. Or exercise?
No, she answers, blinking, not at all. I am meant to sit in contemplation and maintain purity of thought.
The frown deepens into a scowl. You don’t go for walks?
Where would I go? The girl’s hands press into a blister, and she hisses, Ah, perhaps I have...some. Since I have arrived. It seems to be expected of me.
Shirayuki takes a long breath through her teeth. Yes. We do expect people to stand on their own legs in Clarines.
She can hear the cut, but it is not aimed at her, but rather, farther away. Perhaps even her brother might feel it, so keen is the concubine’s tone.
Does this hurt? she asks, right before her finger press behind her heel, and by all the faces of the god, it is blinding.
Here? she asks at the knee. Here? she inquires at the shoulder. Could you roll onto your side? Do you feel it here?
The hip nearly sends her soul to the god, she could swear it. You are torturing me! she snaps, grabbing at her robe. You wish to punish me!
The concubine sits back, face stony. It wasn’t me who wanted to punish you, she murmurs. Louder, she says, It’s hard to tell the exact problem, but...you’ll need to start walking, at least.
More? she asks, agog. They already make her walk to all her own appointments, and when she is invited to dinner, it is clear she is expected to arrive under her own power. It is almost too much to be borne.
Yes. Much more. The concubine eyes her, concerned. Maybe you could walk around the gardens? They’re lovely this time of year.
She stares. Alone?
The girl blinks, sitting back in her hips as if the idea surprises her. It should; in Wati, she would go nowhere without a cloud of attendants, but here -- well, there are no daughters of Visoth here to keep her company, and she is not sure what caste of noble women would be a fitting replacement.
The concubine’s mouth takes a wry twist as she suggests, You might take Zen with you.
A man? Surely she cannot be shocked further. No. That would not be appropriate.
Shirayuki’s mouth parts in a smile. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. After all, you should get to know each other.
Yes, of course, but surely all of that can be done with a screen between them. They don’t need to be next to one another, talking.
I can prescribe you a tea as well, for the pain, the concubine continues, and if it continues after you’ve started walking, we can look into something else to help you.
Yes, of course. She grimaces, pulling on her robe. After I start walking.
The concubine hesitates. Munkhtsesteg.
She looks up, straight into a gaze far too earnest to be seen in any harem.
If you don’t want to go alone, Shirayuki says, so delicately, as if she might break, I’m happy to walk with you too.
Her hands shake on her buttons. Thank you. I will...consider it.
