Hierarchy of Living Beings
Hierarchy of Living Beings
Quite often growing up in ‘modern’ world where science has very strongly influenced me, I had few basic questions like – why one should not eat meat? If one has to eat non-vegetarian then is there a hierarchy of beings? And, most importantly, aren’t plants ‘living’ beings! If they are, then ‘eating’ them is much worse a sin than eating meat of a dead animal or bird. I found the answer in the…

The girls are plottinggggg
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wen chao#wang lingjiao#Realizing she was supposed to have an upper lip mole was a cold slap in the face. So sorry ma'am. I won't forget again.#They are evil dumbass 4 evil dumbass and I think we are all missing out on the sheer potential of the comedy between these two.#They have way too much power and are using it for the wrong reasons - which makes them truly great villains.#And when things don't go their way they become piles of whining sludge.#Wang Lingjiao is forever fascinating to me even though we only get crumbs about her.#She's a servant girl who's greatest asset is her beauty and her attractiveness.#Meaning she's had a life being in the gaze of people with significant positions of power over her.#I can't help but read her childishness and petty tantrums as someone who has finally been given the chance to not feel powerless.#If she was a more virtuous type we might 'like' her more but honestly...I don't think she would have survived to this point.#WLJ has only known power hierarchies her whole life. Probably accused of seduction before she even understood what that meant.#I love contrasting her with mianmian because they have similar(ish) backgrounds but different approaches to moving forwards#But WLJ's story is about flying too close to the sun and mianmian's is about going too close to the water.#Like the sea mist dragging her down into complacency - all the sect powerplays are mandatory to 'go along with' if she wants to climb-#-the social ladder. Yet she is the cautionary tale (and a foil to JGY as well) she leaves before sacrificing her own morals.#Mianmian flies away with her wings only slightly plucked while those who sacrificed everything to reach for the top crash and burn.

I'm sure Minkowski never forgot that Cutter was the first person ever to call her Commander. After recruiting her in Once in A Lifetime, he starts to call her Lieutenant, then breaks into laughter, before correcting himself: "What am I saying? Commander Minkowski." He draws attention to himself granting that title, stressing its significance. By initially calling her by a lower ranking, then conspicuously correcting himself, Cutter emphasises that he's the one granting her that title. Right at the beginning of Minkowski's employment with Goddard Futuristics, Cutter plants the seed for his line in the finale: "People cared about you because of what I made you: A soldier. A leader. A commander. I gave you that, and now? I taketh away."
And he does take it away. Cutter makes a point of calling her Commander in that first meeting, but he hardly ever calls Minkowski Commander after that. He almost always calls her Renée. He makes the point in that first interaction that he has the authority to grant her that title, and then in every subsequent interaction he tries to make the point that she doesn't have command over him. Having called her Commander once makes every time he doesn't call her by her title seem more deliberate. It's not that he never uses titles - it's that he uses them selectively. He gives her a taste of that sense of authority, but he doesn't want her to feel worthy of it.
In the liveshow, he cuts her off by shouting "I AM SPEAKING, LIEUTENANT!". Minkowski is the Commander of the Hephaestus in official terms at this point and Cutter even refers to her as "a mission commander" later in the same episode. So there is a deliberate malice to Cutter calling Minkowski Lieutenant here. Not only does it emphasise the use of authority structures as a means for control and the abandonment of first-name-basis false friendliness, calling her by another title makes his choice not to call her Commander even more explicit, denying her that authority.
Apart from when he recruits her, the only other time I can think of when Cutter directly calls Minkowski Commander is in Ep60, when he lays out his offer to let Minkowski leave on the Sol: "How does that sound to you, Commander?" Again, calling her Commander is a kind of power play, an attempt at manipulation, highlighting the sense of responsibility that motivates so many of Minkowski's actions. Cutter is prompting her to ask the question she would be asking herself anyway: what choice would a good Commander make? Just as he did when he recruited her, Cutter offers Minkowski something she desperately wants, and the use of her title here only draws attention to the idea that Cutter is the one with the power, choosing what to give her.

Helluva ships - featuring Radioapple
Mammon does in fact tattle to Lucifer about Asmodeus and Fizz's relationship. Let's say the Helluva timeline lines up with Lucifer and Alastor getting closer sometime after season 1.
Lucifer doesn't know why Mammon bothered, even if Lucifer didn't have whatever was going on between him and Al -- he still wouldn't give a fuck. And he'd give even less of a fuck considering Mammon was still committing copyright infringement for his park, the audacity of that man was astronomical.
Still, Mammon calls a meeting to spill the tea because even he knows Lucifer is a hermit who does not keep up with the drama of Hell's so-called elite.
Asmosdeus finds out and therefore Blitzø finds out. So they all crash the meeting to give Mammon what-for. Fizz and Blitzø because they've never met Lucifer and think he's going to be pissed. Moxxie and Millie because Blitzø lied about where they were going and refused to let them leave. Stolas for moral support (and he's also never met the King, sue him, he's excited despite the circumstance) and Ozzie because he couldn't stop them so he might as well join them.
Following multiple very unnecessary pit-stops and shenanigans, they finally arrive at the palace---and it's too late.
Alastor has already kicked Mammon out and now he and Lucifer are doing paperwork, gossiping, and fighting over the (according to Alastor) tacky interior design of the palace.
The Helluva gang bust in (Blitzø is on a horse for some reason, he's very happy about this) and it's very anti-climatic.
Asmodeus: so you...don't care that I'm in love with an imp?
Lucifer, dad mode: You're in love? I'm so proud of you!
Blitzø: Just to be clear, I'm fucking this bird, there's nothing you can do about it
Lucifer: Okay??
Alastor: Darling, they think you care about hell's hierarchy
Lucifer: Oh! Yeah, uh-no. That'd be pretty hypocritical of me considering [gestures to Alastor]
The Helluva crew leave the palace once Lucifer and Alastor start bickering again looking like they've escaped a hurricane, wondering if they should be sending the King of Hell a 'Congratz on the Divorce' card.
Moxxie: ...does this mean we have two Kings now?

to me, tim and duke occupy a similar position in the batfamily where they're clearly not (or previously weren't, in tim's case) bruce's sons but also clearly have a connection to bruce's children that separates them from barb, steph, helena, jean paul, etc. none of the latter three are dick's siblings, but tim nearly always has been, and then he's cass' too. even if he hadn't been adopted, this would be true. duke is jason's brother, and is implied to have a sibling relationship with cass and damian, and has even shown up in tim's picture of his brothers. this is not changed by the fact that duke should never be adopted.

My problem with The Dragon Prince is that while it preaches about "breaking the cycle" and "choosing love", it repeatedly does so in a way that echoes the age-old idea of telling victims to passively accept their lot in life and the injustices inflicted upon them while their perpetrators never have to acknowledge their wrongs or face consequences for their actions. This is the kind of narrative they follow on both a personal and systematic axis, and it's exactly why the show will always frustrate me.

it is important that Parkour Civilization 2 is about yaoi and trust instead of classism and systematic oppression because Parkour Civilization 1 can not only be an example of the pitfalls of a rigged meritocracy but also an example of a society that has forgone the need for community, and connection and the sequel thus allows for the rediscovery and reintroduction of community and connection that will lead to a restored-to-sustainability meritocracy
#parkour civilization#within the canon of parkour civ… it was sustainable and better during the reign of the old man. but then how does it become warped?#the answer lies in the removal of the Chainmail layer—the Parkour Fight Level—and the domino effect it set off symbolically and literally#symbolically: removing the Fighter level was like removing the tier of Love and Belonging in the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs Theory#thus if the need for connection and community is erased like it never existed then everyone in parkour civilization will go from wanting#Safety and Security (health and employment in parkciv) to wanting Self-Esteem (achievement and respect)—a pipeline that encourages#self-interest and leaves forming community and forging connections to be an optional step that many will often skip on their way to the top#literally: the old man erasing the Fighter Level would lead to the rank up of Pros into weaker Masters#this means that not only are the newly ranked Masters weaker… they are also more competitive and less sociable or mindful of others…#like the Evil Champion. who couldn’t match the Old Man and instead decided to outsmart the Old Man to fulfill his selfish desire for power.#in spite of supposedly being at the top of society and at the stage of Self-Actualization—the Evil Champion wasn’t satisfied. hence his#tyranny from henceforth.#Evil Champion is an example of what a deeply selfish and emotionally isolated person who has risen to the top of a meritocracy can do to#that society. a society we discover was flourishing and sustainable in the past when forming a connection to others and reaching out was#the norm and not the oddity.#when the old man cancelled yaoi—the society began to slowly crumble and was only revived when Evbo reintroduced yaoi#aurie rambles#talking in the tags#oops i also yapped away inside the replies /lh

aromantic culture is understanding that just because platonic and romantic relationships can be/are different (and that can be a good thing!), that doesn't mean your friends are less important... and your alloromantic friends not understanding that distinction and getting mad when you point out that that's how they treat you vs. their partner

#p4#persona 4#hanamura yosuke#yosuke hanamura#EVERYDAY IM HOWLING. EVERYDAY IM SCREAMING.#for context this comes at the heel of yosuke charging at mitsuo kubo in rage because of his flippance towards killing saki and he's hit har#but souji and kanji jump in to protect him#like ok a lot of things going on here such as the obvious OH MY GODDDD yosuke being yosuke and taking things on for himself#because he doesn't want to bother people?? because he's made it his own responsibility? because his survivor's guilt is still lingering?#i mean don't tell me he doesn't look at how he surrendered to his shadow like apart from his self-sacrificing propensity#i low key feel like everytime yosuke demands answers about saki's death from the murderer/god/etc there's this undertone of how#he would rather it have been him#he cheapens his own life so much and for what#BUT ALSO!! ALSO!! not just souji jumping in because we know he would he's down bad for yosuke BUT ALSO KANJI#listen you've all heard me talk so much about how i adore kanji yosuke friendships#i can't really tell whether it's kanji or souji that says “haven't we earned your trust yet” but it's a line that hits SO HARD#regardless of which one of them was saying it and i think it hits hard in slightly different manners#it's kanji's admiration and how he looks up to yosuke and how he wants to be closer to yosuke as a friend/kouhai/whatever you want#tatsumi “who's your partner now!” kanji has so much respect for yosuke he wants yosuke to rely on him too!!!#and this stands out because kanji is very conscious of social hierarchies and such but as a kouhai as yosuke's junior#he's so specific about wanting yosuke to treat him as an equal#i smtimes feel bad for kanji because he has a bit of that vibe of a poor puppy trailing after souyo because he wants to be in their convos!#he wants to be included! but critically he also just! wants them to SEE him!!#going a lil off tangent but i think kanji's attitude towards souji is very much one of kouhai respect like he understands his place#of like deferring to souji or getting advice from him and just generally regarding him as a reliable mentor#and it's the same with chie and yukiko? but idk man. with yosuke. guys. with yosuke i always feel like kanji wants to break that hierarchy#that convention. that social norm. to cross a line and be closer to yosuke.#he's more willing to tease yosuke in a way he doesn't with the other 2nd years. and this isn't coming from a place of disrespect either#AGAIN. KANJI REALLY LIKES YOSUKE. he wants to protect yosuke!!! he jumps at the opportunity for yosuke to rely on him!!#i'm getting delulu but there's those hints of “yosuke senpai i want you to see me as a man!!!” kind of energy here and i'm it's yknow hmm

I believe everybody who thinks Zoro isn't the first mate because Luffy sees every member of the crew equally should rethink what the role actually means. It isn't confirmed verbally but it is obvious Zoro accomplishes everything a first mate should do, and even if Luffy himself hasn't said it, if you told him what being a first mate is he would instantly, with no hesitation, mention Zoro. But it wouldn't be putting him first and before the others. It would be a simple statement of "oh! He's my first mate the same way Nami is my navigator and Sanji is my cook and-" because all of them are important to him but obviously have different roles within the crew.
To say a first mate is about hierarchy is just not true because Luffy himself doesn't even have a crew based on hierarchy. It isn't even big enough for that to happen. And he is the captain in the sense of inspiring everyone around him and starting the crew, the rest of them following him because they want to, but he is not an average captain and a lot of characteristics of his role are accomplished by other members of the crew.
Because after all, putting roles aside, they're a family and nobody is above anybody. There's nobody more or less important to Luffy because losing anyone would break the stability within him and the crew, because they are not only fulfilling a role, but helping with other doings and with Luffy's specifically. Zoro is the first mate in the sense that he's the one Luffy relies on the most when it comes to protecting the whole crew. Zoro is the first mate in the sense that he takes the hard decisions when Luffy can't. Zoro is the first mate in the sense that he guides Luffy to the proper path of being a captain. And everybody does a little bit of that, but Zoro's whole persona is basically devoted to that one role, and having roles in a crew doesn't mean somebody is less or more important, but that they're good at that one thing and Luffy acknowledges people's different strengths. Luffy's love for his crew isn't reflected in the strawhats' roles.
So "Zoro is the first mate" and "Luffy sees everybody as equals" are two statements that can and do coexist.

If I had a penny for every book about a boy of noble birth who watched his whole family be killed in front of him and narrowly avoided death himself, ran away and hid in an orphanage before someone unaware of his true identity recruits him into the regime that murdered his family (said regime presents the idea of everyone being equal while in reality being deeply flawed) and now has to work alongside people who would likely kill him if they knew who he really was, I’d have two pennies, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

Lemme just tell you right the fuck now black people, specifically black afabs are not tme. We just aren't. Because transphobia, transmisogyny, misogyny, and racism go hand and hand.
Black people who are perceived as female have to present in hyperfeminine ways to avoid masculinization and to be accepted as women, the same way trans women do.
Black women have to make themselves look socially docile and take so much abuse just so people don't attack them due to being perceived as aggressive (which is tied to the social concept of masculinity) bc again, transphobia and racism go hand and hand.
If a black woman is perceived as "aggressive" she'll be faced with having similar stereotypes of violence and aggression pushed on her the same way trans women do. Some people even go so far as to say an aggressive black woman is no better than a man.
Transmisogyny doesn't just function on the basis of a transphobe 100% knowing you're trans. If they did transvestigators wouldn't be a thing, and if you haven't noticed the features transvestigators like to call out the most are features strongly associated with black women and black people in general.
Transmisogyny functions on the basis of if you adhere to eurocentric standards of femininity as closely as possible and if you stray from that in any way you're perceived as a threat to white womanhood.
