Small little warning: Some violence ahead, so be warned of that. :P

You gripped the flashlight in your hand hard, your fingers twitching from your strong grip and from the nervousness coursing through you. You took a deep, shaky breath through your mouth, slowly exhaling out of your nose as you slowly walked down the dark cavernous tunnel.

It was unlike Sloan to suddenly vanish like this, strange for them to not come back when they said they would. It terrified you that they hadn’t come back yet, so you went looking for them yourself.

Flashlight in hand, you approached the rooms that lead to the room that the artifact was said to be in, the room that Sloan had gone into to retrieve it.

You could hear the faint glowing hum of the back room which contained the artifact, a burning feeling of dread burning your chest.

What even was this artifact? Did Sloan even know anything about it?

As you walked through the cracked stone room, some writing on the wall caught your eye. It was written in a type of hieroglyphics that Sloan had taught you. You carefully brushed away the dust with a small brush, lifting your flashlight to read it.

“Beyond this point lies ____. An ancient being capable of curses that cause beings to _____, and leaves destruction in its wake. Beware.”

Your heart lurched in your chest. You couldn’t read what kind of curses it talked about, but knowing curses were a possibility made you more afraid than you were prior.

It was then you heard it. Faint gasps for air and wheezes of pain. Your attention immediately snapped to the source of the sound; the back room where the artifact was. Without a second thought, your feet moved. You bolted for the back room, your mind racing with thoughts of what could have happened.

Upon getting to the very back room, the humming was almost deafening. You closed your eyes as you winced feeling the hum pound against your eardrums, shaking your head to try and shake it off. Through the pounding hum you could still hear the gasping and wheezing, now even louder, closer. You slowly opened your eyes, looking around the room.

You froze as you saw Sloan to your right with the light of your flashlight covering them. They were on the ground on their elbows and knees, their left arm bent with their palm on the ground. They were panting and leaning heavily on their right arm, their arms and shoulders jolting with each breath. You took a single step forward towards them, raising your open hand up and towards them slightly, “Sloan..?” Your voice was shaky, “Are you okay..?”

You hoped that they were, but you knew they weren’t. You asked more as a cry for help than anything, the panic in your body burning.

Sloan shakily sat up and leaned back onto their knees, their body falling slightly backwards with their spine supporting their weight, their arms limp. Their mouth hung open with a small bit of saliva dripping from the corner of their mouth, still releasing small but heavy and shaky breaths.

From where you were standing, you could barely see their face. Their skin was darker than normal, eerie, disturbing, it shook you to your core. You watched Sloan stand up onto their feet, their upper body leaning forward, their arms and head limp. You were in such a panicked state by this point that the humming from the artifact was tuned out of your hearing, all you could hear was Sloan’s shaky breathing.

Sloan slowly turned to look back at you, each of their breaths now sounding more like a sharp airy hisses.

You stared at Sloan in horror. The scleras of their eyes were pitch black, their irises and pupils a very light blue. The edges of their eyes looked almost ripped, only deep shades of blues with white spidering lines. Their expression was animalistic, their teeth bared as they growled darkly at you.

You took a step back, your hands shaking more than before. You dared to speak again.

“Sloan… What happened to you..?”

Sloan’s gaze relaxed ever so slightly, almost in a confused manner. It wasn’t long before that faded right back to the primal teeth baring.

You took another careful step back, keeping your gaze on Sloan, your heart throbbing in your chest. Every instinct in your body screamed at you to run, but you couldn’t. You hesitated.

The instant you hesitated, Sloan bolted in front of you, their hand clasping over your throat. They slammed you into the wall behind you, lifting you off the ground against the wall.

You gagged and dropped the flashlight in your hand as the impact knocked the air out of you, your body unable to take in any more from Sloan’s hand over your throat. You grabbed their wrist with your hands, trying to pull them away from you as you pulled your legs up against the wall. From your weakness, you couldn’t pull hard enough with your arms, nor get your legs close enough to Sloan to get them off of you.

Now that the flashlight you held prior wasn’t on Sloan, you could see clear blue wisps of light around their head, their eyes appearing to bleed a similar energy.

The curse the hieroglyphics warned about… No, it couldn’t have, right?! There was no way it could cause something like this!

You were forced out of your thoughts and Sloan tightened their grip on your throat, now with both hands. You could feel yourself getting light headed, dark spots appearing all over your vision. Your throat and lungs burned, begging for air that you couldn’t provide. Your hands slipped from their wrist as your arms dropped, colliding limply with the wall behind you. Your legs dropped as well, all the strength you previously had fading from your body.

The first excavation you ever went on with Sloan… you now knew was also your last.

And so...after an almost two month long hiatus...ONWARD FAN ART FRIDAY IS FINALLY BACK!!! 🎨 🖌 🎉

Anyways...

Who doesn’t love the idea of a pet dragon?!?!? Aside from catching things on fire at any given moment, it would be so cool! 😍

So for the grand return of my Onward fan art showcase, I present to thee the Lightfoots' lovable energetic pet dragon, Blazey!

If I could name any character from the film that I wish had more screen time it would most definitely be her...a loyal friend in times of need, always ready to share her love to those who need it or even don't need it lol, and with a great knack for tracking things like Phoenix Gems and the scent of her owners, I'd even go as far as saying she's the glue that keeps the Lightfoot family together!

A bringer of liveliness and excitement to the room, here are 10 artists' 10 different versions of our beloved Blazey!
