Summary:

[Cloud] wasn’t disappointed; the moment Zack laid eyes on him that look was back, desire mingled with surprise. Cloud let his lips curl in a bit of a smirk, gesturing for Zack to join him at the table. “Cloud,” his name was whispered with a reverent intensity usually reserved for behind closed doors. He chuckled slightly and caught Zack’s hand before it could roam further than his bare shoulder, and brought those scared knuckles up to press a kiss to them. “Be good,” he instructed softly, a glint in his eyes. “Dinner should be out shortly.”

When I Started: Technically only a couple of weeks ago but I've been working up to writing this piece for actual years now. How I Lost My Shit: Intimidated by the subject matter! Takes place immediately after Zack and Cloud break out of the labs in Crisis Core. Loosely following the journey they made, but taking creative freedom.

Cloud actually did a very bad job emulating Zack's persona, because the defining trait of Cloud-as-Zack is "cool", and Zack wasn't actually cool but he was to Cloud. Zack views Cloud getting to live as a relief and Cloud views it as a curse. Zack thinks saving Cloud was his One Good Thing and Cloud thinks of Zack as the ideal hero and himself as the Mistake. Zack would probably been overjoyed when Cloud recovered his memories because up until his death Zack never really came to terms with The Concept Of Zack Fair, but we know he loved The Person That Is Cloud Strife.
