And with that, I've watched pretty much all of the shows I planned to check out this season. So now it's time to rank my first impressions of them!
Just as a reminder: This will be my ranking of these shows based purely on how I felt about the first 1-3 episodes. Continuations and anime that I've already read the source material for will be put into a separate rank after the rest.
Honestly, this is turning into a fantastic season already. Multiple high quality CGDCTs, lots of yuri and lots of good music from both OPs/EDs and insert songs. I genuinely have high hopes for most of the shows on my list this season.
A-Tier (sold on it in 1 episode)
Rock is a Lady's Modesty
Tumblr media
Class S Ojou-samas rocking out while drenched in sweat and flipping each other off while also being super gay and having bdsm fantasies about each other.
This show was made for me and is already my number 1 series from this season.
Mono: Weekend Animation
Tumblr media
Photography club yuri! Super fun and cute first episode that's already way surpassed Yuru Camp in gayness within 1 episode. Cute/pleasant vibes, very funny humor and Akiyama is already my pathetic little meow meow of the season.
A Ninja and Assassin Under One Roof (Ninkoro)
Tumblr media
Assassin girl who has zero qualms committing murder x ninja girl who has zero qualms hiding the body yuri. The comedy was hilarious, both of the MCs had great chemistry together and the animation was Studio Shaft doing what Studio Shaft usually does. Absolutely need more.
Food for the Soul (Hibimeshi)
Tumblr media
The foodie anime of the season that also doubles as the "she's just like me fr fr!" ultra introvert girl anime of the season. The Food porn was top tier and I related so hard with Mako's social anxieties…
I'll just have to remember not to watch this series on an empty stomach because damn that's some good food porn…
Princession Orchestra
Tumblr media
Welcome back Symphogear…. SymphoCure?… Singing toku magical girls and also there's a disaster at a concert by episode 1 so yeah. Welcome back.
B-Tier (strong start but I need a few more episodes to lock it in)
The Catcher in the Ballpark!
Tumblr media
You know what? Sure, I'm down to be convinced that ballparks are actually fun experiences. The cute gyaru beer seller is already doing most of the work tbh…
C-Tier (rough start but has some promise)
Nothing
D-Tier (I'll stick it out but they're on thin ice)
Guilty Gear Strive Dual Rulers
Tumblr media
Look, I get it. Trying to summarize even a small portion of what the fuck is going on in Guilty Gear isn't easy (Woolie literally took multiple hours to do it).
But with that being said: holy hell is that a rough start for the series. Maybe it'll start pulling itself up in the next couple of episode, but those first two episodes do not give me any high hopes for the series.
…Also good luck to anyone going into this anime cold without any story context from the games (and weirdly canon pachinko machine) cause uh… it definitely expects you to already know what's going on…
F-Tier (lol, no.)
Nothing
(S)pecial-Tier (I've already read the source material or it's a continuation)
I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level S2
Tumblr media
The immortal witch is back and ready to add more girlfriends and daughters to her harem!… and if the OP is anything to go off of, she's going to double its size.
DNF (Could be good, could be bad, but I couldn't finish episode 1 for some reason or another)
Nothing

brother crab's spring 2025 first impressions: batch 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
stacked season for cgdct enjoyers let's goooooo
zatsu tabi: i was all excited that this was like. about a working adult! instead of high schoolers! manga artist going on travels, hell yeah! but right from the start i was like hm yeah she's basically indistinguishable from a high school student and then she was like "i'm 18" so that explains it lmao anyway. still fairly cute and i think anyone who enjoys watching travel vlogs will enjoy this
mono: i say "it's not yuru camp but it'll do in a pinch" about a lot of cute girls doing cute things BUT THIS ONE. FINALLY. it's still not yuru camp but it is by the same creator so! it certainly captures a similar magic and i'm really enjoying it so far. especially how it's going even harder on the yuri vibes like. five minutes in we have girl who took 30,000 pictures of senpai in one year and other gil who's in love with 30k pictures girl. also an incredible cat. god. what a good start i'm so sold
hibi wa sugiredo meshi umashi: for most of the first ep i was thinking this is kind of like zatsu tabi where if you enjoy watching travel vlogs you'll probably like it, except it's food vlogs for this one. but it seems to have more of an actual plot! interested in seeing where this one goes
of the cute girls doing cute things trifecta, i'm most strongly sold on mono so far. everything about it is just so delightful to me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
aharen-san s2: WELCOME BACK AHAREN MY BELOVED MOROSEXUAL4MOROSEXUAL ROMANCE man i really did not expect to enjoy this so much when i picked up the first season but it is so cute and funny and fun and healing. thrilled to see this bunch back, they are just so delightful to me. really looking forward to seeing more of their dating life! and the new characters! fun so far!
witch watch: trying not to get my hopes unreasonably up about this one but i loved kanata no astra, by the same author, so i'm. quite hopeful! actually watching the second ep as i write this and the first ep was already fun, but the second is even better. i don't think it's kanata no astra tier for me, but it doesn't need to be. delightful to see this author is still into adorable pink-haired one-brain-cell girls. they do have bill shoes to fill bc aries and kanata were like. peak morosexual4morosexual to me. just like aharen...... so anyway. hoping witch watch will deliver something similar lol
sentai daishikkaku s2: i need that heinous bitch sousei to come back and do some freak shit and i need him to do it now
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
uchuujin muumuu: "warring factions of our catlike alien race killed off all the engineers so the only ones to escape our planet before its destruction were us. the idiots" funniest goddamn setup i've ever heard. that sure does explain why this cat alien can't fix the spaceship it crashed lmao. really enjoying this so far! social anxiety girl + cat alien + various science/engineering facts. cute and educational
apocalypse hotel: oughhh god. god. i think i may end up having some shrimp emotions about this one it's so. melancholy already. because like. they're waiting. they're waiting for people who aren't going to come back...... can i cry...............
moonrise: haven't actually started this yet because it got... batch released...... rip. making a note here to remind myself i picked it up for the arakawa character designs mostly lol

I was talking to my sister (probably weeks ago) about anime and I realized I always set out to watch the ones everyone loves recently cause DUH but I literally never do. IDC about Naruto, Spy x Family, Kaguya-sama, Komi, Jojo's, JJK, BNHA, AoT, ETC. Only mentioning cause they're the shows with the most fans as of recently. Uhhh I watched a few eps of Tokyo Ghoul, same w/ Soul Eater and Death Note and Noragami (this one I do wanna watch eventually) and BSD. I can't think of any popular others that I haven't watched.
The ones I have watched: OPM (te amo Saitama. remember nothing tho), Haikyuu!! (up to 3rd season maybe, I forgor but I want to remember 💔), KnY (was OK), Wonder Egg Priority (don't remember the end), Yuru Camp (love SoL), HxH (both 1999 AND 2011 in their entireties), Horimiya (NEED to watch S2), Eizouken (silly), Hanako-kun (remember none of it), Kakegurui (both seasons, I watched w/ my sister), MP100 (S1 & 2, probably rewatch b4 S3), CSM (funny. Denji te quiero), Erased (it was good IDC), Kill la Kill (2015 Dante was built different), Yuri on Ice (vamos maricones), Ososan (funny), Owari no Seraph (Yoichi te quiero), Mirai Nikki (it was fun IDC).
LIKE I have watched my fair share of "popular" anime but out of that list I liked ummm lemme count. 7/18. enough to remember anything about them. It's pretty hit & miss to the point I don't even know what to watch anymore 😭 it's been so long since I last finished an anime. SAD.

that was the winter anime 2021 that was
Still not quite ready for a dozen posts about how terrible the likes of Combatants Will Be Dispatched are, sorry. Watch Vivy though, it owns. Here’s some more things that are (mostly) good. As always, worst to best.
Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki S3
Tumblr media
Yatogame has long run out of hot Nagoya facts and its ensemble comedy never amounted to much, so now it seems mostly content to just spam more and more wacky character designs. About the only thing that it has left going for it is that 3 minutes a week are more effort to drop than to watch, so I expect them to make a movie next. 4/10
Go-toubun no Hanayome S2
Tumblr media
Quints is a weird one. S1 was a barely good enough (i.e., well above average) implementation of the ages old harem chestnut. S2 is actually better at the core of its appeal, since it gives all the characters a sharper profile (things like taking Nino from joke to badass and making Ichika a villain are no mean feat), but it does pay a steep price for it. You see, to deliver a steady drip feed of meaningful character moments it apparently has to rush through the source material at a breakneck pace, which completely wrecks the "story" part of this story and makes every episode seem like a recap. And it still keeps wasting precious time on vestigial nonsense like its framing device and the Kyoto flashback scenario that was already the worst part of S1. But by far the most annoying aspect is its insistence on keeping all the options valid, since it prevents any real progress and makes everything seem arbitrary and pointless. So sure enough, after a season of much ado we still don't end up anywhere — you can't really raise the stakes if all at stake was "who wins" to begin with. It's watchable and even enjoyable scene-for-scene but it's getting harder and harder to call it a solid show overall. 5/10
Skate Leading Stars
Tumblr media
I was watching this primarily because I didn't like Yuri on Ice much and wanted to see if something that is a blatant attempt to cash in on it would be better — because while YoI delivers on one aspect (being hella gay), it really is an absolute shambles of a sports show. And sure enough, Skate Leading has none of the auteur appeal of YoI, but it just works much better. In particular I appreciate how it managed to make me care even a little about a cast of assholes, which is a nice contrast to the nauseatingly ingratiating way YoI tries to make you love its characters. Also, Skate Leading is just generally cheap and unambitious, so not susceptible to trying hard and painfully flaming out on the presentation side like YoI is. But at some point you gotta let go of these comparisons and on its own Skate Leading is... just fine, I guess? Competent, mildly engaging, not very memorable. And that's probably where it loses to Yuri on Ice in the end after all, even if I think it's "better". 6/10
Idoly Pride
Tumblr media
Idoly Pride sold itself on me with a really good (and hilarious/tragic) first episode that was just too bizarre to ignore — I mean, how can you ignore GHOST IDOL MANAGERS. Well, the majority of the show isn't like that. It's a competent and solid version of the idol franchise show, yes, but it really had more potential than that. Especially midseason, it gets lost in these dozens of characters, and while they're all likeable, it does seem like a waste of a good story just centered on Mana/Kotona/Sakura. By the end it comes back around to the heart of the matter with a Maeda-style sob story, which could be a disaster but seasoned veteran Jukki Hanada makes it work anyway. Overall, there's quite a bit of ridiculous hacky melodrama in this, but quite honestly that's the best part and I wish it would concentrate more on it. The rest is just okay. 6/10
Yuru Camp S2
Tumblr media
Yuru Camp is still likely the best pure iyashikei show when it gets down to business. Compared to S1 though, this seems to happen less and less. At its peaks (i.e., basically any quiet moment with Rin) it's at least as good as ever, and there's some good cast additions like Mini-Inuko, but it appears that Yuru Camp simply has run out of things you can do with camping and it fills up the time with other... stuff. This stuff includes the generic school club shenanigans it was never particularly good at, and a gigantic helping of crass consumerism. Yeah, I would say the majority of Yuru Camp is just a straight up infomercial at this point, which itself ranges from the perfectly acceptable (which cute anime isn't about food constantly), to the sketchy (I don't know whether the Izu tourism board cut this production a fat check, but if they didn't, Yuru Camp still gives its best effort to make it seem that way) to the highly irritating – I am aware that camping requires gear and you can't just ignore that, but you most definitely do not require whole arcs dedicated to talking about raising funds for the purposes of acquiring the Lamp of Comfy Happiness at your friendly local Caribou™ either. Not to mention an arc where the aforementioned lame school club does the same, for double irritation. Make no mistake, this show is so riddled with scenes that beg for a solution to embed affiliate links in video files that it makes me wish I was watching something as anticapitalist and underground as Love Live. And irritating really is the last thing a show with this core concept, as stellar as it is at that, can afford to be. Bummer. 6/10
SKOO the Infinity
Tumblr media
Skoo has one really huge asset: ADAM, its magnificent villain. It also has one really huge liability: Reki, its not magnificent protagonist. To be more specific, it's very good at anything outrageous, physics-defying and silly, such as most scenes ADAM is in, and quite bad at anything serious, dramatic (in a serious way) and down to earth, such as most scenes Reki is in. So, what's the verdict? Well, the rest of the cast is more ADAM-like, and Reki's co-protagonist Langa is fine as the straight (yeah, right) man. The tedious buddy drama is a comparatively small part of this show, and at least it pays off quite well in the end. Seriously, I was ready to give this a 6, but the final episode is probably the best one of the show, in all of its aspects. That's really not something you see often. Skoo's a great time. Except when it's not. 7/10
Non Non Biyori Nonstop
Tumblr media
Speaking of the rare good ending, what about we gave one of those to a slim and inconsequential slice-of-life show? NNB has always been solid, comfy and amusing quality with a couple of standout moments (usually something with Renge), and Nonstop has that plus an ending as conclusive as any show of this type is ever going to have. Besides, it does a lot of things right by focusing on more characters than the central 4 (especially Konomi has great material in S3), it expands the universe just enough to not get stale, and it moves things forward — It's definitely a lot better than the movie, is what I'm saying. Apart from that, well, we're three seasons in, if you have any interest in this you probably don't need me to explain what's good about NNB at this point. Bonus points for being nothing but an ad for the manga. 7/10
Wonder Egg Priority
Tumblr media
Oh boy, so here's the big one. Wonder Egg is the rare Meaningful Arthouse Show About Real Issues You Guys, as you might have heard. And well, the long and short of it is that it's a very good show with quite a few glaring problems (besides not actually being finished due to production issues, but what we have is enough of an ending to be able to meaningfully talk about it). In particular, one problem: WEP is, at its core, one of these metaphorical Magical Girl-ish series that are just a thin layer of abstraction over coming-of-age or societal problems. The issue is that "metaphorical" in this case means "literal" and "thin" means "basically nonexistent". This show is not subtle regarding what it's about, at all. This is a double-edged sword — on the positive side, some things really should just be said aloud, and I'm really, really fucking tired of the Ikuhara style of "here's some wacky things, maybe a blog post will eventually tell you how it's actually about the most important thing ever" obfuscation — if it's really so important, just spell it out. On the other hand, there are limits to this and when a second, different Ai appears I don't really need a voiceover line telling me that yep, this show is about parallel universes now. WEP spells out many important things, but it also spells out many things that are implicitly clear or better left vague. Not to mention that with being so obvious up front, the show's tendency to leave figuring out what it's actually saying about it up to the viewer can leave the wrong impression. Again, I settled on the opinion that it's subtle after all where it counts the most, but you might easily get the impression that it pulls its punches (Ikuhara does this the exact other way around — once you figure out what the fuck he's talking about it's abundantly clear what he's saying about it).
In fact, this show is so good at subtle, quiet character moments that it calls into question the need for big huge fighting fantasy layer in the first place, especially since I'm not a fan of the fantasy designs and the fights aren't great. Sure, they look impressive on a technical level (this show is very good looking in general), but the lack of actual impact or rhythm makes me think this is not made by people who are very familiar with action and maybe they should have asked some seasoned shounen veterans for this — or just, you know, not do it. They can (and do) impress with character acting in quiet scenes just the same. And while Ai's character story actually does pay off quite nicely by the end we got, and Momoe and Rika are also handled well, Neiru's backstory is significantly less good, not to mention the whole Frill subplot regarding the show's mythology that they introduced just before (and that's the part to be resolved at a later date), which is a huge can of worms. We'll see how well they handle that, I suppose, but as it is it's a weird and vestigial detour that doesn't add much besides thematic headaches.
But yeah, apart from all that — I like it, a lot. Great character writing in the details, cool looks for the most part, tons of ambition, and a message that I consider to be appropriately handled — for the most part, and for now. Not quite ambitious arthouse anime at its finest, but also not a pretentious disaster like Sarazanmai, Monogatari et al. 8/10

so btw the YuruYuri rewatch took a break over the weekend so myself and the 3 other people participating could have something of a break, but we’re back on today and I just watched Nachuyachumi and. Holy fuck. I don’t think I was prepared for that to be so fully incredible? Like, okay. It’s not that funny, it’s hardly chaotic past the first 2 minutes or so, and it’s not even really that gay. And I consider those to be majorly important elements to YuruYuri and s2 lacking them is part of the reason it was so weak. But Nachuyachumi dials the fuck out of the yuru - the laid back feel. This is straight up iyashikei with a bit of yuri and it was. Just so delightful and sweet to watch. Genuinely a level of chill and comfy and happy that nearly made me cry from just how much I was enjoying it. Score upped to 9. I’d be amazed if this isn’t the best part of YuruYuri.

Could you recommend anime to watch?
I can :D Though maybe I will repeat myself about some very well known anime because... I don’t watch that many anime. I usually watch 1/2 anime per seasons (if I feel like something could interest me), and now it’s mostly anime with yuri subtext (I won’t use yuri bait because I don’t like the negative connotation of that word) or yuri. I read way more manga and doujinshs, usually :D - So well to get over it, non gay anime I really enjoyed back then (and that are, super well known) : GTO, Chobits, Jigoku Shoujo (hell girl), The Ancient Magus Bride, Pandora heart (though I recommend the manga a bit more), A Silent Voice, Tamako Market (though Midori is clearly gay).Jigoku Shoujo was one of my fav anime for a long time... It’s a bit of horror (but I was able to watch it even though I don’t really like horror). Season 1 and 2 were awesome, season 3 was... Surprisingly a bit gay, not that good quality but still really enjoyable. They recently did a 4th season and I absolutely don’t recommend it because it was meh. Kyoani anime in general are just amazing anyway, and A Silent Voice by Yamada is a must see.
- Yuri sub anime: Hibike Euphonium (obviously), Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight, Yuru Camp, BanG Dream!, Kakegurui, Little Witch Academia, Maid Dragon, Madoka MagicaI will always recommend Hibike since it’s my favorite anime :D (I think it’s pretty much visible through my Tumblr :p). S1 is amazing, S2 is awesome until ep 9, then some additions are... A bit stupid.I obviously recommend Liz and the blue bird, because the movie is a masterpiece (even though Nozomi and Mizore aren’t my top fav ship so it didn’t impact me the same way as it did for some people. I do love them but yeah.)I haven’t watched Chikai no final yet, but I know that Ishihara did some stupid additions that aren’t in the novel, though in the end they are apparently pretty much skippable and wouldn’t change the movie.
Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight is my second fav anime (and I really hope for a S2 like they did for BanG Dream, with the chara from the game :3 I want my child animated <3 ). I must admit I had some difficulties during the first few ep because of Karen. She isn’t exactly the kind of MC I like... A bit like Honoka in Love Live. But beside that little detail, everything in the anime is just great.
Yuru camp became also one of my fav anime because it’s just so comfy and relaxing... Even I who don’t really like camping, it made me wanna try it out.
BanG Dream the anime is a bit special. I really love the game, I watched the first season before I actually started playing. A lot of people say that S1 wasn’t good, I don’t agree with that. The first half is a bit slow, but then it’s really good and enjoyable. S2 was also awesome, but I think you need to play the game first if you wanna understand who is who, among the other bands (except Roselia that is already introduced in first season.)
Kakegurui is super twisted and strange but it’s really good (if you can go through the weird mood).
Maid Dragon is hilarious (and Kyoani Anime, so you can be sure of the quality) and it’s one of the anime I had the most of fun watching.
Madoka is a classic.
Little witch academia was also a great anime, though I must admit that I am not THAT into Diakko compared to a lot of people (I do love Diana, but I have like no opinion about Akko).
- Yuri anime: Yagate Kimi Ni Naru, Kase San (OVA), Citrus
Yagate Kimi ni Naru is for me the best yuri (labelled) anime made so far in my opinion (if we don’t count Hibike that I consider as yuri). They totally nailed the manga and the quality was really great (the musics were amazing) despite a little drop of animation quality due to budget at the end.
Kase-San is just an OVA so it’s super short, but it’s super cute
Citrus is a must see because it also became a classic, though I do believe that you understand Mei a bit better during the 2 first arcs if you read the manga. I have a bit less interest in Citrus than what I used to (I collectioned like, a lot, and it was my fav serie until volume 10 arrived) but I can tell that the anime was really enjoyable... That is, if you do enjoy the manga in the first place (since the manga is not really for everybody, tastes and all).
Beside those, I am... Not super fan of the yuri anime that have been made before Citrus... I did enjoy Kannazuki No Miko and Strawberry panic a fair bit, so I could also recommend them if you wanna watch them, but I consider them as “yeah that’s fine” more than “really amazing”. For Kannazuki No Miko I think it’s mostly because of the mecha background that wasn’t really my thing.
So yeah, that’s pretty much that ... At least that’s the series that come into my mind when I think about recommendations

some shoujo ai anime
bc who doesn’t like lesbians
kanamewo - about this girl whos riding home from work and she finds this like alien godess in front of her demolished shrine and takes her home. this one is only 5 minutes and has no dialogue (really good music tho) and it ends kinda sad but it’s pretty good.
Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san - about these 2 girls and one likes dogs but has a cat-like personality and the other likes cats but has a dog-like personality. i don’t really remember what happen since i watched it 6 months ago, but this one is a lot more light hearted than kanamewo. Sadly, this one is only 3 minutes but! it has 13 episodes and an special. (buy literally took me forever to find y’all better appreciate)
Yuru Yuri - This one is a lot more popular than the others but i’m still putting it here because i love it. it’s about like 5 middle school girls who just like chill in their club room being gay. wow sounds like the best anime ever .I summarized it badly but if your looking for a chill anime because youre a lesbian whos tired of suffering and just wants some moeblob, u got it. (other seasons 1 2 3)(buy s1 s2)
Yagate Kimi ni Naru - This one is a manga but, it’s about this girl who just entered high school but still still hasn’t responded to this boy that confessed to her at the end if middle school because she liked hi but didn’t get a “specual feeling”. later on she sees the student council president turning down a confession and gets inspired to ask her for help. i haven’t finished this one because I was thinking about buying it but i loved the first chapter bc i could relate so much!!! i was really happy because you rarely ever see asexual/aromantic characters in anything. (if you want to buy JPN ENG i think it’s english???)

Awards:
Best “Is It Me Or Is It The Others Who Are Wrong” Award: Little Witch Academia
This show was hyped up to the max on /r/anime, to the point where there were daily posts with the number of days until the first episode would air. I didn’t really buy into the hype after watching the original OVA and leaving it feeling a bit underwhelmed. And after two episodes, I knew what I was getting myself into: it’s not anything amazing, but it’s not horrible either. It’s right in that middle ground of enjoyment, enough for me to continue with it even though it’s two cour. Yet there’s still a thought inside of me, wondering why I’m not enjoying it as much as other people seem to be. And after much thought, there’s two reasons that people are loving this show that I narrowed down: the great animation and the Disney-like story. Those two things are pretty much the reason for my lack of enjoyment for this series.
Good animation is nice, but it’s not anything that’s going to significantly raise the score of a show for me. And as for the second point, the show is Disney-like in the sense that it portrays the message of “if you believe, you’ll surely accomplish it”. It was prominent with the OVA, and so far with the first two episodes it’s been a thing as well. Unfortunately, I’m not really about the whole “with the power of believing/friendship/whatever we can surely win/accomplish this task/etc.”: it’s the main reason why I generally don’t watch shounens/sports shows, and it’s the reason why I don’t particularly like some CGDCTs with that message as well, such as Yuru Yuri sometimes or what GochiUsa’s second season is starting to look like from the episodes I’ve watched.
What it really boils down to is basically “it’s not for me”. It’s basically the same situation with Flying Witch: I’m not saying the show is bad or that I hate the show. In fact, I appreciate what Flying Witch contributed towards the iyashikei genre (healing show in a sense), and I appreciate the whole backstory with LWA and how it got Kickstarted. But in the end, I rate based on how I enjoyed a show, and for me at this point, LWA hasn’t been amazing, but is still okay. We’ll see how it progresses later because things can change dramatically, but so far this is how I feel about it.
Best “Random Action Scene” Award: Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
Sasuga KyoAni. In a comedy/slice-of-life show, we get a pretty dang good action scene featuring the two dragons that have been introduced so far. I’m not watching very many action shows this season, so I’m not going to so far as to say that this scene was the best action scene of the young season. Instead I’ll just say that this scene is a good example of the versatility of this show. We got the laughs for sure, but it can go farther than that as there were actually some nice heartwarming moments as well with the kid dragon’s exile scene. I’m curious to see how the other characters will fit into the dynamic of the show, based on what I saw from the OP/ED sequences. We’ll see I guess.
Most Fucked Up Shit Award: Kuzu no Honkai
(Honestly it isn’t that bad, but compared to the rest of the shows I’m watching, this is like some horror stuff)
I try to keep myself from swearing in these posts because I’m trying to limit my cuss word usage, but no euphemism is accurately going to describe this award. Straight up, this is some fucked up shit. On the one hand, this show has been a really interesting take on romance in a genre which usually is filled with annoying tropes and disappointing nothings. On the other hand, the relationships themselves are really really messed up. You have both Hanabi and Mugi pretending that the other person is their actual love during the more intimate scenes, you have the main relationship itself which I’m sure is going to end up self-destructing at some point during the season, and now you introduce more characters into the love polygon, with no expenses towards the gender of the person. It’s messy, but really fun to watch. I don’t know if that makes me a bad person, but I already knew that from the start anyway so I’m ready for the rest of this messed up ride.
Most Oregairu-like Show: Masamune-kun no Revenge
I’m seeing some similarities with this show and Oregairu, specifically in the characters. The most obvious one is Yukino and Aki: both ice queens with long black-ish hair. Then there’s the less obvious Yui and Futaba, both sort of the cheerful genki-type characters (with similar figures...). And then there’s the traps.
But really, that’s it for the similarities. And even then, these similarities aren’t really that good when you look deeper. Let’s start with the traps. Well, first let me start off by saying I don’t like traps. They usually have absolutely no point other than “oh look it’s a trap character”. That’s the case for Re:Zero and that’s the case for Masamune-kun: basically they just added the trap because they could, although they could have put a non-trap character and it wouldn’t have made a difference. Yet with Oregairu, Totsuka (the trap) actually has a purpose, and it’s the reason why I actually like him unlike the other traps out there. He basically acts as the main source of comedic moments with 8man, and him being a trap is essential to those comedic moments. In that way, him being a trap served a purpose, and so I was fine with it.
Going further, the comparison between Yui and Futaba is ruined by the fact that Yui is a main character in her show while Futaba isn’t, meaning we get a rejection in the second episode and her time on screen very much cut down. Unfortunate because I liked her the most out of all of the characters so far. And then there’s Aki and Yukino, both characters of an archetype I don’t really like: the tsundere. It’s obviously too early to tell, but from the first three episodes Aki just seems like a worse version of Yukino: she flip-flops too much between tsun and dere mode, which I think is more frustrating than just sticking with the tsun and slowly moving towards the dere like Yukino does.
So overall, Masamune-kun so far has been hit-and-miss so far. It’s had its moments and misses, but overall it’s a decent to average show. Time will tell as to how this continues, but with how it’s progressing, I’m honestly not too excited to see. Oh well, I’m in this ride for now.
The “Landfill Info Dump” Show Award: Rewrite (Moon and Terra)
First off, I have to say that this season of Rewrite so far has been much better than the first season. Unfortunately, that also leads us to this award, which was sort of a given with how unorganized the first season was. Because of the amount of stuff they glossed over, they now have to explain all of the stuff they missed, leading to a lot of information being dumped to the viewer. Now I’m not sure if this is because I’ve already read the VN or something else, but the info dump made the episodes go so slowly, and just made the show boring to watch. That might also just be the slow pacing of the show though, so I can’t really tell if it’s the same for an anime-only viewer. Well, hopefully this continues to be a decent adaptation.
The “Nisekoi” Award: Demi-chan wa Kataritai
Now before I get into my spiel, let me say that this show is some really good stuff. It’s so good that I already bought volume 1 of the manga, which tells you something given that I almost never get manga. Having said that, this episode revealed some things that I didn’t really like, namely the harem-y feels I’m getting (hence the Nisekoi award). From Machi’s crush on the sensei to Sato-sensei’s crush on the sensei to Hikari’s ambiguous crush on the sensei, I’m a bit wary. I have been told that nothing actually happens romantically, so I am optimistic that it’s just me being super pessimistic. Still, it’s something that’s been bothering me with this show, and is really the only complaint I have for it. But really, it’s a minor minor issue compared to the great things this show is doing. Still the best anime of the season so far.
The “Red Flags Dropped Show of the Week” Award: Fuuka
This last episode was the breaking point. Well actually, every episode was the breaking point, but this episode just pushed it over the edge. Firstly, why is the MC such a basic biatch? Secondly, how the heck did he end up in the position he was when he fell on Fuuka? Thirdly, how did I end up watching four episodes of this? For the time I was watching this, I think I had to pause at least five times per episode because I had to recollect myself and prevent myself from facedesking too hard. There were so many stupid decisions and turns that were made during this show, and watching it was probably bad for my health. It’s not even worth it anymore for “that point”, and so I say no more.
Best Episode of the Week Award: KonoSuba S2
Okay, this episode was significantly better in the face department. No noticeable derp, and the derp that was there was purposeful and added to the humor. And speaking of that, this episode was even better than the first episode, making me laugh more than any show from last season combined. It’s stupid, yes, but it uses its stupidity in a humorous way, parodying cliches and such to turn scenes in unexpected directions. I’m interested to see if the bad derp and good derp alternate, because apparently the animation directors for episodes alternate between odd and even numbered episodes. Would be interesting if that was the case. Still, this show was the best comedy last year, and it’s making a strong case for this year as well.
And that’s all for this week: thanks for reading! Random side note: there’s a certain show on my radar that’s been recommended to me, so I’ll give that a shot and see if it’s worth watching. If you know of Youjo Senki, well that’s it. We’ll see if it’s any good considering the genre isn’t really my thing.
So until next time, I’ll see you in the next post!

Anime I finished recently
I recently caught up with a few anime with yuri sub. I am usually not watching a lot of anime, but since I am now watching them with a friend, I grew more motivated to catch up with quite some series I wanted to see someday, so here’s short opinion about them. (There’s also anime I watched during the season, I am usually watching 1 per season, max 2).
Yuri Yuru Camp
Tumblr media
(^ this is such a meme, omg) I loved the anime so much, oh my god. It was just so soft and comfy. I never thought I would end up willing to do camping because of this one. I felt really at peace while watching it and I want to watch it again someday because it was so good.
Rin is my fav <3
Little Witch Academia
Tumblr media
I wanted to watch that one for a while because of the countless Diakko fanart I saw ever since the anime was released.
I really had a good time watching it, and I loved searching all the references (Sleeping Beauty during Sucy ep, Cinderella, ...) (YES I LOVE REFERENCES). I would have liked to see more chara episodes (it’s sad Jasminka episode has been cut off the anime, and we didn’t see either how Amanda group and Akko group became friend), but the conclusion was nice and I had a really good time in front of it.
I won’t say I am really into Diakko (though I shipped it, and other stuffs during the anime), they are nice but didn’t really catch my attention.
My fav were definitely Sucy, Diana, Chariot & Amanda.
BanG Dream S2
Tumblr media
I mentioned it but I didn’t give my final opinion about the anime :D I am among those people who enjoyed S1 (the first half wasn’t really great, but the second half was totally worth watching IMO, and I enjoyed the viewing). Then I started playing the game, and it totally got me into the fandom.
I already liked Popipa and Roselia before Bandori Girls band party, but seeing all the other girls and their stories and I was totally convinced.
So about S2, I enjoyed it a lot. I would say the viewing experience was way better since I am playing the game and so I already knew the side characters (I do think anime was done on purpose tho.)
I really liked seeing RAS (gosh I love all these girls, except Chu2... Layer has such a ‘step on me’ energy <3), though I was quite surprised we didn’t get to see the whole band with Rokka. And I loved the whole Popipa story. The new songs were also amazing !
I relished of every small moments with my OTP (admittingly rare, unfortunatly. But also yeah, side characters.) I do regret we couldn’t see more interactions and usual reactions between characters (like Chisato Kaoru or Himari Kaoru), but since the anime is focusing on Popipa, I think it’s fair. I can’t wait for season 3 in 2020.
Idk if I already mentioned my best girls for Bandori (since I love them all, except 2), but since I did for the previous anime... Misaki, Kanon, Rinko, Kaoru, Chisato <3
I still have to catch up with Kakegurui S2 (I did watch the first season, but I haven’t started S2 yet) and I should start K ON someday.
