YuruYuri is probably one of the most interesting Yuri series made, despite it being a lighthearted comedy series…… it has a lot of characters, and there is no central “romance”. Instead all of the characters have openly lesbian tendencies that they exhibit with each other, and treated as normal. Some characters have multiple simultaneous crushes/pairings and there is a lot of flirting and romantic gestures, that usually get foiled. The result is a series that isn’t romantic, but is thick with a kind of “ambient” lesbianism and romantic tension between all of the girls that makes it so enticing.

I don't think I ever said anything in response to this and its sequel getting announced, but I was of course excited and now that they're both out on blu-ray I have watched the first one. Gonna have food then do number 2. Absolutely delightful experience, possibly my favourite YuruYuri character designs? Don't quote me on that it's been too long since I've rewatched and the series in anime format has a fair few major styles. Sakurako was never my favourite of the series' core cast and so I didn't expect to really enjoy a spinoff of her and her two sisters who are total background characters but actually yeah no I mean you see my score I had nothing but fun here, was especially invested in Nadeshiko's relationship with her mystery girlfriend because here's the thing Nadeshiko is Chiwa Saitou and of the three girlfriend candidates that it could be within this episode itself one of them is Aoi Yuuki and I mean come on of course I need to see the Chiwa Saitou character and Aoi Yuuki character talk about loving each other, I'm literally a Madoka fan. Hoping second episode explores that more, although even if it doesn't I'm sure I'll still love it.
