Said this in a reblog of @melfinawins post but also now making into a post cuz it needs to be reiterated going into s3.

As I’m doing my umteenth rewatch before s3, it’s clearer every time that Syd as a character is allowed no grace for her flaws, whereas the incels constantly worship Carmy and Richie regardless of their flaws. They overlook Carmy leaving the cigarettes next to the stove, Richie’s unsanitary proxy job, Carmy starting the brigade and dumping everything on Sydney, the way Richie is literally an asshole to everyone and super microagressive to Sydney, Carmy’s toddler level meltdown during the to go mess. No, allll of that is understandable because they are the (yt men) heroes of the story. But god forbid Syd have a vision for making the restaurant thrive, “Syd is overbearing and overstepping.” Syd doesn’t let Richie get away with being an asshole and defends herself, “Sydney is a b*tch constantly putting Richie down.” Sydney quits after Carmy lets the kitchen devolve into a toxic hellhole following an honest mistake, “Sydney is a POS that leaves everyone hanging after her unforgivable f*ck up.” Yall are EXHAUSTING. Let Syd exist and allow grace for her character flaws the same way yall do for Carmy and Richie.

The in-game mission "The Fine Art of Conversation" is most remembered for the famous "I'm afraid," scene at the end (and rightfully so!)

However, one thing that has really caught my attention on recent replays is in this scene here:

Of course, tensions are already high, and as the player as soon as Arthur starts coughing you start thinking, "No, please, not now, this is literally the worst possible time," (as does Arthur, I'm sure.)

What impressed me, though, and what I didn't catch on my first few playthroughs because I was focused on Arthur, is Charles's reaction - or, rather, his lack of reaction.

Whether platonic or otherwise, we know Charles cares a hell of a lot about Arthur - enough to bring him to this meeting, a decision which I suspect was less about helping Rains Fall directly, and more as moral support for Charles himself. (Despite Arthur also being a white man, I doubt his presence would've made a difference in the negotiations, since simply siding with the tribe would have immediately "othered" him to Colonel Favors.)

Yet when Arthur starts coughing, very clearly not okay, Charles does not move a MUSCLE. He doesn't flinch, doesn't tense, doesn't move his hands or turn to look at Arthur. (Keep in mind, this is before Arthur tells him about the TB in "The King's Son" 4 missions later, so even though Charles knows something is wrong, he doesn't know what.) Even when Arthur is all but dragged away, taking Charles's own safety net with him, he stays as immobile as a statue, making himself into a wall for Rains Fall and taking every cruel jab that is thrown at the chief (and at him, by proxy) in calm silence. The amount of restraint that took must have been agonizing.

We've seen Charles's temper, we know he doesn't stand for injustice willingly if he's given the choice, and he'll use whatever means necessary to protect himself and those he loves. For him to set all of that aside here, bottle up whatever he must be feeling and stand there in silence while still trying to keep an eye out for the first sign of danger, speaks to his deep respect for Rains Fall. No matter what's happening around him, even when he no doubt wants to make sure Arthur is alright (and/or just take care of Colonel Favors with his shotgun), he puts his promise to the tribe first, and does everything he can to help the meeting succeed.

Had to share as soon as I noticed this little detail. All of the characters in this game are so wonderfully written and acted, it's incredible.

Yeah, the GGDD 'parking lot incident'. Fans get really excited about stuff like this. Well, here are the photos so you can decide for yourself:

Both of these are much clearer than the alleged 'parking lot kiss'.

😅 Sorry, I really do have a point though.

The photos behind this and many of the other supposed sightings of GGDD together are so blurry you can hardly make out humanoid shapes in them, and even if you suspend disbelief and accept that the shape might be a person, it could literally be anyone. The only thing we ever have to support the idea that it might be GG and DD is the word of the stalker scum who claims to have taken the photo/video. And they have a lot to gain by lying about it, or even staging these sorts of things and making the accompanying material conveniently blurry and indistinct.

Consider the source and what they might have to gain by lying. Consider the possibility that the source might themselves have been misled or misreading what they were seeing. Consider the power of mob mentality and wishful thinking. Consider whether you need someone else to tell you what you're looking at in order to be able to even 'know' what you're looking at, and what that might say about the BS level involved. Consider whether you have any evidence at all in front of you.

And I'd like to remind everyone that this kind of thing is a knife that cuts both ways. If we're willing to take seriously a blurry photo where we can't even make out humanoid shapes let alone identify who those people might be or what they might be doing, then what's going to happen when antis show us a fake photo that they claim depicts an actress wearing a bone necklace, for example?

Please be careful out there, and learn to evaluate 'evidence' in a rational, critical way. There are plenty of free resources for learning critical thinking, and even many free university level courses available online. I can't possibly overstate the importance of understanding these concepts - not just as a fan but as a person trying to navigate an increasingly fact-averse world.

Where are GG and DD in all this?

But on to the bigger issue with this particular type of material, which is our attitudes toward GG and DD's privacy and well-being.

I've talked about this a lot over the years, and I've even answered this exact 'parking lot' question multiple times in the past (this claim isn't from 2024, it's actually many, many years old - I think it goes back as far as 2019 IIRC). This kind of invasive BS is far, far beneath our dignity to explore and dig into. I hope we can all strive to be better people than this.

If GG and DD were actually ever photographed kissing in a parking lot somewhere, would you not think the kinds of people who would get excited about this and share it around and breathlessly comment on it are total assholes? Because I certainly would. This is stalker behavior, and people having a wank off of an invasion of GG and DD's privacy. It's putting fandom insecurities and 'proof-seeking' above GG and DD's well-being.

As fans we should always have GG and DD's best interests at heart. There is no leap of logic where going after this kind of thing can be perceived as being in any way in GG and DD's best interests.

We shouldn't be dupes, we shouldn't be stalkers. Please always remember that GG and DD are human beings, not characters in a drama. If we don't see photos of them together it's because it's not in their best interests to be seen together. Sit with that for a moment. Take it to heart.

I know this kind of response from me can feel harsh to some people, but I really feel that these ideas will be totally self-evident to anyone who centers the humanity and well-being of GG and DD in their fandom experience. It's sad when people's first thought isn't for GG and DD's safety and privacy, especially when we're talking about a gay couple under a queer-hostile government.

Whether the photos are real or not, the attitude we have toward them and the way we discuss them creates a climate and a standard for how fandom handles such things. Treating this type of thing as exciting and salacious rather than as invasive and disrespectful gives people social license to pursue and share stalker material. It helps fans disassociate GG and DD from their humanity and treat them as objects or fictional characters rather than as people.

I understand that it's easy to get swept up in things and I don't want you to feel judged or disliked by me. I don't feel that way at all - I truly don't - and I hope you don't take my feelings about this topic personally. I just get so angry when I see stuff like this.

You are by no means the first people to get caught up without thinking, and you won't be the last. I just hope you'll reflect on it and understand why it's not a good path to go down if you want what's best for GG and DD.

I firmly believe that everyone should engage in fandom in whatever way best aligns with their values and interests. I just think that choice should ideally be a conscious, informed one.

Okay, I've applied a few patches to y232* including using a different backend for yt videos, I'm seeing big speed improvements but I did have to retry so its definitely not immediately solving the problem but we'll see how it pans out, I think tomorrow I'll write a proxy pausing algorithm for when the dreaded error pops up so hopefully that'll solve a little more of the issue

Toby Appearance HCs

It's been awhile since I've read his backstory and I am aware of the tobyxclockwork fiasco, so this Toby will be a little different.

I picture him to be about 5'5, 6 pretty average height, he has a pretty slim muscular figure and has plenty of scars.

He has multiple scars from the accident and many more from being a proxy. He counts them every day and tells EJ so he can document them.

His hair is brown and very curly, it kinda shags behind his ears when it gets too long so he cuts the sides, kind of like funkyfrogbait (on yt) if you've seen them.

He still has the mouth hole on his face but he got it for a different reason when he was younger (more in my backstory section)

His fingers have bandages courtesy of EJ cause he keeps biting them and he wears gloves or oven mittens (funny story) to keep them away.

Although he bites absentmindedly, it helps when they can't be seen.

He usually wears a variety of cardigans, pullovers and hoodies with baggie jeans and some sneakers, not a specific brand, but most likely a high top of some sort.

He has some piercings but they can't be visable around Slender because of proxy dress code (more on that later) so he either takes them out, wears them only on special occasions, or has them hidden.

no I've never found any art historian community online due to a mix of competitiveness, elitism, possessiveness with our research, imposter syndrome, jealousy, and rigidity within specailizations. it's not like classics where everyone works together. it's radio silent. people who aren't top experts in the field with 20 per reviewed publication reeeeally don't like talking and sharing ideas. 0 of my friends or mentors post about their research or life, they only brag through a weird proxy like on linkedin or smarthistory or via their star students. one of them is a leading high renaissance expert and you wouldn't know if you aren't connected to the sistine chapel or italian scholarship conference circuit.

there are a FEW influencers like katy hessel and mary mcgillivray who have gained a following for their mini lectures and of course millions of hobbyists posting incorrect content. but it's rare to see anyone with PhDs putting their work out there on the lower level.

a little update that i managed to get to the pop-up shop!

goodies were sold out the day it opened, and stuff was only restocked 2 days before it ended... so i went on the exact last day and not much was left + my card declined for some reason cuz of my bank refusing to authorize this purchase, and i could only get aimery-kun's akustas with what i had besides my card, orz. (the clerk was very understanding but it was definitely embarrassing lol)

pictures of inside the store were prohibited, so nothing to share about that. i do have the free flyer, my goodies and tokutens to share!

My fav hair colors on the Fates kids

Hi I’m back. Third post of the day!!! LMAO. I wanna rant abt hair colors because I ship a LOT for hair color in Fates and Awakening. This will just be for Fates tho.

Neutral:

Kana: For female Kana, it’s anything blue. Flora, Reina, Azura, and Oboro. She can just really rock blue tbh. She can also rock white really well! For Male Kana, I like anything grey-ish. Laslow, Jakob, even kind of Takumi to an extent. I don’t hate any colors on F!Kana, but I DESPISE both Kaze and Kaden’s hair colors on M!Kana. Not a good look. Actually, I do take it back. I don’t love the Camilla lavender on F!Kana. It looks wrong.

Shigure: I’m kidding

Dwyer: Nyx is the correct option here. I don’t like Mozu or Kagero’s because they’re too brown. But with Nyx, it’s like the exact same shade as his gloves, and that’s satisfying to me. But also Corrin’s default hair color, Corrin’s black hair, as well as Effie’s hair color look nice on him. Everything else looks disgusting

Midori: I talk about Azura a lot and I love that color, but honestly this is the only kid that can get Setsuna’s hair color and look good. She already has a lot of green in her pallette so it works. But other than that, my favorite is probably still Azura, and by proxy Beruka. I’ve also seen Camilla!Midori a lot on YT before and I lowkey fw it. Hinoka’s doesn’t look great, nor does Selena’s

Shiro: Either blonde or brunette. He looks great with the canon Kagero/Mozu color, but Rinkah also suits him. Azura and Felicia look atrocious

Kiragi: It’s Oboro or nothing. He looks fine with Rinkah and MAYBE Hana’s too. I don’t like anything else on him. Orochi and Setsuna are close ENOUGH to be okay with me, but everything else looks so wrong

Asugi: I’m not even gonna lie, I don’t ship Saizo/Sakura anymore but I still think it’s Asugi’s best hair color. It’s that classic Gaius orange we all know and love. And once again, Azura is a swing and a miss. Not a cute color at ALL

Mitama: Once again, Sakura wins for best hair color. But it’s genuinely cruel to do this ship imo so I don’t. Felicia’s is also cute. I hate Setsuna’s on her, it looks like swamp water

Hisame: The only good one is Hana. Second/Third place is Kagero/Mozu, and everything else can get fucked. This kid was BORN to be a brunette and you cannot convince me otherwise

Caeldori: I’ve talked before about Hinoka red and why it’s arguably the best. Sakura’a is also cute. But an underrated one is Rinkah’s tbh. Caledori already kind of has blonde energy, so I think this suits her nicely! It almost reminds me of Rapunzel. And I do not like Azura on her either, but honestly she can surprisingly rock a lot of stuff

Rhajat: Nyx is first, Rinkah’s a close second. Black and white are her colors for sure. Orochi’s is nice too. And Felicia’s is kind of a vibe. But once again, Setsuna is failing to make an impression on me. Also Hinoka’s looks ass

Selkie: Selkie is the only character in the game that looks good with every single color tbh. Except for like, Kagero. I genuinely like them all on her. But obviously I like Sakura as her mom so I have to say that’s my FAVORITE favorite.

Nohr:

Siegbert: CHARLOTTE. Nothing else. The reason why is because Siegbert dresses in the same colors as Xander, so any color that isn’t blonde looks really out of place. Get OUT of here with the Hinoka propaganda 😭 Peri’s is also atrocious, poor kid looks deathly ill/his Private Quarters icon makes him look like he has clown face paint on

Forrest: Honestly? My favorite for him is Effie. Horrid for stats, I know. But here comes Color Theory Slaycation. Forrest’s uniform is a cool toned pink, so a cool toned color is gonna look best for his hair. Hence, why I think Effie’s white-blonde looks really good on him. I have a love-hate relationship with the Nyx. And honestly? I don’t love Felicia’s on him. It’s too much pink all at once for me. Makes it look like his hair is blending into the hat. But he will forever be my little Avatar 21 brunette baby 😭 and I don’t like Sakura’s. The pinks clash.

Soleil: Either Selena or Felicia. Selena because they have the same uniform colors, and Felicia because it’s closest to the canon Olivia color. Don’t care for blue on her. The colors of her outfit read as warm toned to me (there’s like red undertones in the black and white), so any cool color clashes to me. The worst are probably either Azura or Camilla. Azura’s is like fucking green on her and I don’t like it

Ophelia: Elise this and that, I wanna talk about the runner up in my opinion, and that’s Charlotte’s. I know I just complained about Felicia!Forrest blending in too much, but this one actually works. She looks like Goldilocks in the best way. Also probably terrible for stats. Elise does still win tho, in case we were wondering. Oh, and Felicia’s is cute too. I don’t like Nyx’s, too dark on her (same reason I hate Lon’qu!Owain, the canon blonde children typically look really wrong with super dark hair

Nina: PASTELS. Give her pastels. Literally ANY pastel will work. Felicia, Camilla, Beruka, Azura, give Niles the Corrin marriage and give her the pink hair. She literally rocks every single pastel color. Effie’s is closest to canon and I like that. Obvs tho Niles/Camilla is one of my OTPs so ofc she’s gonna be one of my favs. Just keep her AWAY from Peri, Selena, or Charlotte (beware the primary colors)

Percy: Literally only Elise/Charlotte/Effie looks good. Everything else looks shit,

Ignatius: Beruka is the first on earth I ever saw, so it’s the one that looks best to me now. Selena’s is the worst by far. Mozu too.

Velouria: Mozu is EASILY the best one, followed by Nyx. Effie’s is fine, I suppose. I just don’t like the way that the line forms around the streak when the rest of the hair is the same damn color. But Felicia’s looks weird, Charlotte’s looks like she got movie theater butter in her hair, Azura’s feels out of place, and Camilla’s just gives me a full body visceral reaction of just pure rage.

A Weird Cosplayer on YT Is where I got the idea of there not being a literal mansion, but rather a spot of land.

A Web Series that I think got abandoned and I can’t remember the name of- This is where I get the dynamics between the dungeon and mansion; the two and a half mercenaries story; how the Proxies and the woods work.

Criminal Minds gave me inspiration for the Two and a Half Mercenaries story along with how I portray Nina.

The SAW Movies I feel kinda obviously gave me ideas for the Dungeon and Liu

Death of Hydra was inspired by two songs- The Grand Finale (Set it Off) gave me the idea for the actual setting and end of the first world and all that. The Devil is Human (AURORA) gave me the idea for the children of Hydra.

I somehow got a lot of inspo for EJ’s backstory from SABATON… I don’t know how my brain went from Sabaton to Human-Eating-Demon, but it did

The Great War gave me some fucked up information about torture and (I forgot the word) methods which mostly consisted of gas use. Whenever you do research about this kinda stuff, you can learn a lot about chemistry. Since my brain is like a sponge for fucked-up information, I used that beautiful chemistry knowledge to craft EJ’s Anatomy and How all that Works.

My Sexuality, Body, and History is what inspired the way I portray Toby, EJ, Clockwork, Scarecrow, and Nathan.

My personal interests and behaviour, ofc, shape how I make all the creepypastas in my AU. For example, the chess thing. However, I am also obsessed with some stuff that I put into different creepypastas like Bloody Angel sleeping on the floor and X-Virus being a petty-drama-lover.

My Husband gives me a lot of inspiration for Margaret, Her passed husband, and Liu’s dynamics. There is actually a headcannon I have that I’ll elaborate on later than is based on my husband’s sister and brother.

My Childhood inspired how I portray Chess Master since I was fucking obsessed with chess as a kid. I wanted to be the greatest of all time! However, once I won a rookie trophy, I was satisfied lmao.

Personal Trauma is what gave me ideas for some of the issues that I give Liu and Jeff. I’m not going to go into too much detail. All I will say is that I project a lot of my own issues into my creepypasta stories.

I got Haiyi AI a few weeks ago (shoutout to ppl on the synthv discord for helping me out with that lmao. commercial proxy sites have so many fees it almost doubles the cost of a voicebank) and fell in love with her voice. This song had been in limbo for weeks because I couldn’t find someone who was a) suitably versatile with a high AND low enough range to hit these notes and b) actually fit the vibe of the song. Then I tested Haiyi and she sounded PERFECT.

How do I make an account for your youtuber downloader? Its asking me to make an account when I try to download some music

Thats a problem with YouTube itself unfortunately that yt-dlp doesn't have a fix for (that doesn't get your YouTube account banned in most cases) yet, I have a work around in place so that refreshing it and trying it again should fix it but I have to do some more programming on actively suppressing proxies that hit that error to deal with that better soon.

First, I use a VPN to get a French IP (or Belgian--I'm not sure which they accept, I just know these two work) so I can access the network's streaming site, TF1+. You should be able to sign up for a free account without issue. This is the page for the season 4 eps:

Apparently there are always two eps in advance available for the premium subscribers but I'm not caught up plus I think it'd be a little harder to sign up for an actual paid account so I probably won't be able to do that.

So normally I would use youtube-dl/yt-dlp to download the eps but that won't work here, or at least not without some extra steps, because these are DRMed. This is where it gets a little tricky and the whole process isn't super well documented both because it changes a lot and it makes more sense to teach people to learn how to do it than how to do it and also because, well, the more these methods are spread, the more networks change things up and make things harder.

The whole forum is quite useful and I've only had to post for help a couple of times, mostly I just search my issue and read through.

That provided command in the second post, that's something to be used in your command line, on Windows in Start you can open that by typing in cmd or PowerShell or just google what you'll need for your computer.

N_m3u8DL-RE is a tool you can google and download, and also ffmpeg and mp4decrypt. You'll want them in the same folder for convenience. (I think you might need to install python too? If it says you do, then go ahead, lol.)

The way to get the key, this is the most gatekept part, probably. The various streamers out there use different methods of encryption and increasing security levels, and if you read up on it, you'll see stuff about kid and pssh and cdm and L3, it can be overwhelming, but in this case, the things you need are relatively easily accessible.

I'll tell you how to get the pssh and the license URL and you'll be able to use those to get the key. There are several tools you can use them on, one is public and easy, one is private but still easy-ish, and one is pretty complex and not a route I've gone down myself yet (it's the pinned thread in that particular forum). I don't want to link any of them myself, but I'll link to a thread that mentions the easy public one. It does go down at times which is why the hardcore people recommend that last method.

First, before you click on an ep, open up your browser's Developer Tools, usually Ctrl+Shift+i will do the trick. Go over to your Network tab, this shows all the requests your browser makes when you go to a site.

Then click on the episode in the actual browser. You'll see a flood of requests in the Network tab, filter on mpd.

Select the mpd result and the details for it show on the side, click on Preview. Scroll down until you see <!-- Widevine -->. A couple of lines below it, you'll see something like <cenc:pssh>AAA[a bunch of characters]</cenc:pssh>

Grab that whoooole part that starts with AAA, that's the pssh. Go to the Headers detail tab while you're there and grab the Request URL, this is the mpd link we're going to use later.

Now to get the license. Usually you can filter in your Devtools Network tab on license or, in this case, widevine. Since we're already on the Headers detail tab, grab this Request URL now, it should start with https://widevine-proxy-m.prod.p.tf1.fr/proxy?

Now go back to that easy public tool linked in that thread I linked, lol, and just fill in the PSSH and the License. Hit Send and you get a list of three keys at the bottom. I've always gone for the one in the middle and not bothered with all three, but you can try them all.

So at this point, you should be able to fully create and use the command in the first forum link above. If you read the documentation for N_m3u8DL-RE, there are various flags you can use, --save-name "Outputname" will let you name the output what you want, -sv best defaults to the best video quality, -sa best is best audio quality, and so on.

The way to get the subtitle is to turn on subtitles on the video player on the site and to go back to the DevTools box and filter on textstream. Grab the first request, the one that ends with =1000.dash and paste it into a new browser address, and change the .dash to .vtt. That's the subtitle. :) You can use the free tool Subtitle Edit to both convert it to srt, which will let most video players play it with your video, and there's also an Auto-translate option that lets you translate to English. It offers several ways but as I don't have a Google API, I just use the normal "slow" method, it's not that bad.

A second way to get the subtitle is to use the same command as when you're downloading the ep but remove the -M format=mp4 at the end, and instead add -ss 'id="textstream_fra=1000":for=all'

This was all figured out through a LOT of trial and error on my part so please do try your own best if you hit some issues, that's the best way to learn. Also, I just don't want to be the helpdesk on this, lol.
