We live in the age of unbridled internet where we see things our animal brains were never supposed to at the speed of light, which can make it really fuckin' hard to get people to meaningfully engage with your work. When your painting, or fanfic, or webnovel is one post out of millions, a half-second thought so easily scrolled past, it's challenging sometimes to not get discouraged. To wanna give up and toss all your work for fear that you're "wasting your time" making it.

I need you to hear me say this and then repeat it until its emblazoned on your skull: no time spent creating is wasted. The worth of your work is not contingent on how much attention it gets. And to be clear, it's not a bad thing to want attention! We all do, of course we do! But please don't stop sharing your art and writing and beautiful brain with the world just because algorithms and hyper-monetization make it feel futile sometimes.

The world needs art. It needs you. And if you think you don't have any fans, you're fucking wrong, because you have ME, damnit. If you have one fan, it's me. If you have no fans, I'm dead, and as far as I know, I'm still kickin' — so knock that self-deprecating shit off and go make somethin' cool!

You are doing a great job. Even if you dont get many interactions, keep doing what you love. Someday, a random person will look for a specific piece of art, and they'll find your blog, and then they'll admire you. There's always someone out there who will like what we do. Never give up.

cant tell you how bad it feels to constantly tell other artists to come to tumblr, because its the last good website that isn't fucked up by spoonfeeding algorithms and AI bullshit and isn't based around meaningless likes

just to watch that all fall apart in the last year or so and especially the last two weeks

#please dont delete your accounts because of the AI crap. your art deserves more than being lost like that #if you have a good PC please glaze or nightshade it. if you dont or it doesnt work with your style (like mine) please start watermarking #use a plain-ish font. make it your username. if people can't google what your watermark says and find ur account its not a good watermark #it needs to be central in the image - NOT on the canvas edges - and put it in multiple places if you are compelled #please dont stop posting your art because of this shit. we just have to hope regulations will come slamming down on these shitheads#in the next year or two and you want to have accounts to come back to. the world Needs real art #if we all leave that just makes more room for these scam artists to fill in with their soulless recycled garbage #improvise adapt overcome. it sucks but it is what it is for the moment. safeguard yourself as best you can without making #years of art from thousands of artists lost media. the digital world and art is too temporary to hastily click a Delete button out of spite

there are a lot of evil people in the world and a lot of darkness in the world and so it’s very important for me to stress that now more than ever is the time to spread kindness and compassion. combat the evil by not only not partaking in it, but actively refuting it. destroy the notion that being compassionate or generous or kind to someone is uncool or embarrassing or even scary. be the change you want to see. start a chain reaction. positivity only breeds more positivity. do an act of kindness for someone so that that person who is too afraid to do it themselves can see you, realize that they’re not alone, and perhaps sheepishly follow your example. and then the next person who is too afraid but sees that person can do the same. when bad news comes out about bad people or horrible atrocities in the world it’s such an easy impulse to despair, and obviously it’s important to feel what you need to feel. grieve. be angry. be sorrowful. be empathetic. but dust off your pants and get up and be a part of a chain reaction that, no matter how small the scale, and spread compassion and love and care. all the reasons why you might not—“it’s hard! it’s scary! people will make fun of me! it’s useless because there’s too much evil!” are all grade A arguments as to why you should. you have no idea how many people you could inspire to do the same. even if it doesn’t get you anyway far, you can at least say you have the nobility of trying. please choose love and please choose life. you are worth loving and you are worth inspiring others to love
