Nothing like hot cornbread (or even just BREAD) straight out of the oven with some butter when you're having a terrible day. I feel like if there's a type of recipe that Lucifer would pick up quickly, it's BAKED CARBS. The heat from Hell probably throws off all the proofing/rising times, but he's had several thousand years to practice.
SOUTHERN COMFORT FOOD SERIES Chicken and Waffles Sweet Tea Peach Cobbler Hushpuppies Crab/Crawfish Boil Gumbo (plus character notes!) Beignets (part 2) Shrimp and Grits Biscuits and Gravy Pecan Pie/Sugar Pie Fried Catfish ??? - Season 1 Finale
Description under the cut!
[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Colored comic!
Panel 1: Lucifer opens the door to Alastor's room, which is dark inside. L: Hiiii there mister. I made you a snack. Heard you were having a bad day -
Panel 2: Alastor's shadow appears, hissing threateningly at Lucifer, who just stands there with a plate of hot cornbread in his hands, unbothered.
Panel 3: The shadow pauses, noticing the cornbread.
Panel 4: The shadow has gone back to its usual size, and it's sniffing at the plate happily. Alastor (offscreen): Did you make cornbread?
Panel 5: Lucifer sits down on Alastor's bed. Alastor is nowhere to be seen under a massive pile of blankets wrapped around him. All that is visible are his eyes and his hands as he plucks a slice of cornbread off the top of the plate. He glares at it dubiously. L: Yup! Niffty showed me! Even used a cast iron pan!
Panel 6: Alastor munches on the cornbread within the confines of his blanket mountain, though his eyes imply he's quite happy. His shadow sits behind him, beaming and projecting little heart shadows. A: Thank you. Lucifer smiles, pleased with himself.

Sequel to RadioApple Week Day 1 (Late Night/Early Morning). Lucifer is still hallucinating from lack of sleep. Good thing Queen Bee sent over a box of various honey samples (along with their usual order of Beelzejuice) that Alastor can put to good use!
Drawing Alastor’s shadow was surprisingly challenging!
Description below the cut!
[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Radioapple Comic
Panel 1: Alastor's shadow carries Lucifer to his room, smiling fondly at him. Lucifer is still massively sleep deprived and is spilling coffee as he waves his limbs around. L: But Mr. Waddlequackers I don't wanna sleep I don't want dreeeeeeams...!
Panel 2: Alastor confiscates the mug as Shadow tucks Lucifer into bed. A: Sleep deprivation is considered to be a form of torture, Your Majesty. (No more coffee for you!) L: Nuuuu my coffee-!!
Panel 3: Shadow ruffles Lucifer's hair as he looks up, still groggy. A: And you've punished yourself enough for one night.
Panel 4: Closeup of a new mug that Alastor conjures, handing it to Lucifer. It's a large navy mug with a lime green duck with giant black eyes and an elongated neck. A small UFO is at the top, and in the middle in neon green letters is, "ALIEN AB-duck-TION." A: Here. Milk with honey. It will help you sleep. L: No dreams? A: No dreams.
Panel 5: Alastor slumps in an armchair, burying his face in one hand. Shadow adoringly watches Lucifer sleep, who is out like a light, curled up in a tight ball and faceplanted into his pillows. A: What am I doing? (to Shadow) And you - stop it.

Dream Machine
I secretly enjoy the mornings, as much as I dislike getting up at 5:45am. When it’s still dark and I feel like the only one awake, making coffee with purpose. Maybe that’s what it is: the thrumming energy of the morning. The limited time I have to get out the door charges the morning like a spring. I have everything down to the minute— 45 minutes to get up and dressed, wash my face, take my temperature while making my bed. Coffee pot is loaded, it sits on the stove while I microwave some oatmeal. I have five or seven minutes to do some stretches or a release for my shoulders. Then the drive to work, peaceful, calm, listening to NPR and (according to my “drive safe and save” app) cornering fast, braking hard, and speeding. It’s dark and foggy, so I crack the windows, open the sunroof, and blast the defroster to fight window condensation. I’m looking into the dark to find the curve of the road ahead or focusing hard on the yellow line on the pavement as the headlights of an oncoming car blind me. In the early weeks I could sometimes catch sight, in the rearview mirror, of the line of dawn breaking open over the hills, or the pink clouds that signal the approaching sunrise— the moment when the seam will burst on the night.
When day finally breaks at the vineyard— by this point, the hoses are set up and cleaned, and we are getting to the work of the day, cap actions or racking or pressing. Suddenly the day is alive and clattering, and the sense of secrecy is gone. Everyone is up, the cover of dark is blown. Lunch is coming soon, and I am thinking about what it could be. I think my favorite thing about having lunch provided is the surprise. I often don’t like what it is, but it’s worth it to have noontime feel like Christmas morning every day. I pull the cardboard lid off my Covid-friendly individual aluminum container and the meal slowly reveals itself—congealed lentils, hardened into a solid mass, and smoked trout hash, pinkish shards mixed with oily chunks of potato, dotted with something red and chopped— bell pepper? Leaves of Italian parsley clinging here and there. I’ve waited hours all morning and yet somehow one more minute of the microwave is insurmountable, insupportable. After lunch i have a little coffee and sometimes I open the big tub of instant cocoa mix and stir in a spoonful to make an improvised mocha. I look out the window of the lunch room and across the highway to the hills, searching the near hillside for the RV. One of the interns pointed it out after the fires— that it was visible again. It’s the kind that’s the size of a band’s tour bus. The original bassist in Metallica, Cliff Burton, was killed by a bus like that.
One day Austin put on the “90s rock anthems” playlist on Spotify and I was transported back to my high school bedroom, Sony Dream Machine clock alarm spewing out Z100 as I got ready for school or, more like it, lay in bed not getting ready for school. I never realized how much I listened to the radio or what an impression those songs left on me. I never bought the albums, never considered it music I liked— that was different: what I actually, intentionally listened to. And yet I waited for when, in a blue moon, the DJ would play Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order— even then, a throwback. For months, it seemed, the same Sarah MchLachlan song played at 7:00am when my alarm switched on. “And I would be the one to hold you down and kiss you so hard, I’ll take your breath away.” Pretty creepy, I guess, but sung in her otherworldly voice it sounded like a promise more than a threat. The radio marked out a cocoon of time, my own, before the breakfast table and the bus and the halls full of lockers, arrival at school. The paranoid publicity of the sidewalk as a teenager, when anyone could spot you, unsuspecting, accidentally being yourself. Or overhear your dad saying something embarrassing like “have a good day at school.” Before my own secret realm would be blasted open by the impact of other people and their desires, their energy, blotting over that hazy, dim, vulnerable time when the music flowed over me and the voices of the morning show, pattering, inane, invited me to lie quietly beside them.
