Hey there. Great question. It's totally possible to support yourself as an editor. I've done it, and so have other editors I know. However there are a few important things to consider before choosing editing as a career path.

Your chances of being a self-employed freelancer are extremely high. The number of in-house editing jobs in publishing are low and getting lower. While being self employed can give you a certain amount of flexibility, it also comes along with a lot of hustle and hassle, namely fluctuating income, a stupid amount of confusing tax paperwork, and the need to constantly promote yourself to clients in order to maintain steady work.

You probably won't make as much money as you'd think. Editing is one of the many skilled jobs that suffers from market saturation, which has sadly driven down the price the average client is willing to pay for editing services. I can't tell you the number of overqualified editors I know charging barely more than minimum wage for their work. Personally I've stuck to my guns about charging what I'm worth, but I've sometimes suffered by not having as much work as my colleagues who charge less.

Robots have already chipped away at the future of editing as a human occupation, and will continue to do so at exponential speed in the years ahead. They will never obliterate the job completely, as there will always be humans who prefer to work with humans instead of machines. But the outlook will become ever bleaker as more humans compete for fewer gigs, which in turn will drive down prices even further.

If you are also a writer, editing may adversely affect your writing. I don't mean that you'll become a worse writer, quite the opposite. My editing work has brought new depths to my writing, and I'm grateful for all I've learned by working with my clients. However, editing takes time, uses creative energy, and requires staring at a screen (or paper), and personally the more I edit, the less time/creativity/screen-staring capabilities I have left for my own writing.

If you mention you're an editor, someone will troll your post for a typo, grammatical error, or misused word, and then triumphantly point it out to you in the comments. This is mostly a joke. But it does happen every single time.

I hope this hasn't been too discouraging. If you feel a true passion for editing and really enjoy the work, none of the above should dissuade you. However, if you think you might be happy in any number of occupations, I'd honestly advise you to explore other options. Choosing a career path at this point in history is a gamble no matter what, but the outlook for editors is especially grim.

If you'd like to work with writers and aren't attached to being an editor, there are a few jobs (still freelance) that I believe will survive the coming robot apocalypse. Do a little Google research about "book coaches," "writing coaches," or "book doulas." These are people who act primarily as emotional supporters and logistical helpers for writers who are trying to get their book published or self published. Some of them do actual editing, but many do not, and due to the therapeutic nature of their work I believe they will flourish longer than editors in the coming robot apocalypse.

If you do explore editing as a path, the further away you can lean from spelling and grammar (e.g. proofreader or copyeditor), the longer your skills will be useful when competing with robots. AI still struggles to offer the same kind of nuanced, story-level feedback that a human can give. (Speaking from experience here--I'm a developmental editor and have yet to see a dent in my workload because of robots.) They'll catch up eventually, but it could be a while, and as long as there are human readers, there will always be humans who are willing to pay for a human perspective on their writing. Human spell checkers maybe not so much.

I also saw on some of your posts that you self harmed. I had self harmed too during during covid and post covid, but now I feel a bit better. I know someone telling you that they've been through the same is not something you might be wanting to hear, but believe me you'll defeat the darkness in your life soon. You know I have been trying to be better now, but somedays just hit so bad that the whole progress that I have done shatters, all the streak of not self harming, all the streak of nights without anxiety, everything fucking everything ends after one day and it makes me feel even more worse, I still try to be a bit better but sometimes I just can't.

People don't believe this but I have been self harming since I was 6, not in a severe way but yes I have been, it's my escape every since, escape from the anger, frustration, guilt, sadness and even myself.

I know things would get better but I don't want them to be, I don't know why but I just don't want them to be better.

i started doing digital art pretty early on, like elementary/middle school? (started out just drawing stuff like my little pony and warrior cats fanart hbds)

ive spent most of my time messing around w fanart for anime and western cartoons, so i would say that other fanart/official art for those styles have been my primary influence! although my style has changed it's pretty much always been stuff with solid colors and cel shading.

i also focused on animation (without doing 'regular' art) for a period of time, inspired by a lot of japanese animators! (it's something that i'd love to return to after i feel a bit more 'solid' with regular art, so maybe you'll see some haikyuu animations at some point!! maybe??? no promises though)

the manga influence has been pretty recent, i'd say just the past year or so, because it's just been something i've been paying more attention to when reading manga. furudate's influence is even more recent because i've actually only started reading the manga around the time i started doing these! (i'm so glad i did) i've become more comfortable with doing a kind of 'clean sketch' style, with quick, loose, kinda angular lines. i like it because i don't have to focus on getting each line 'perfect', and working in just black and white means i can draw things a bit quicker (i think lol)

I'm basically freshly back from a writers block break and generally being tired with writing that lasted for like what, 6 months???

If I were to give advice, don't push it and believe me on that one. Don't push yourself into writing something even though you may think that you NEED TO finish it. The fic won't run away anywhere and what's more important is yourself, if you feel burned out or have a writers block and you will still insist on finishing it will make you stay away from it even more and if you're an overthinker like me it'll send you into a loop of thinking your writing is shit😭

I write for the enjoyment of it and for relaxation after a hard day of uni and student stuff, I do it because I like it, it's a perfect way for me to perfrct my english plus I really love the community where I met a few wonderful people♡

So to sum it up, believe me that it will come by and you'll someday finish the amazing sounding fic and I hope you'll please tag me in it💔 Just give yourself a breather, don't push yourself and it will come itself♡

Even the title screams them I mean come on now. They both are head over heels for each other. But neither of them have said anything because Fanboy thought that Mute was with Ramble then he thought Mute was gonna go after Hangman. Then Fanboy goes on a date with someone else and Mute gets discouraged. One day they will laugh over the fact that they were so foolish with each other. The only exception to this song is that they actually end up together.

They were meant to be and no one will ever change their mind. They love each other more than anything. I could put this whole fucking song in here because it fits so well. Even if they were in a different century they would be together. Plus the fucking photos come on guys that's literally Jake's favortie thing to do. I think it's 100% possible that Plus Sized S/O would stumble into an antique shop and find books and books of photos and be blinded by the similarity to her and Jake. Jake also definitely writes her love letters. Now to pick out what exactly to put down for this. I picked a tiny chorus even though this whole song is so them coded.

It can get really hard to stay positive and to stay hopeful, even for someone who's been doing it for a long time! Things will always happen that make you upset or sad or heartbroken, and sometimes it's hard to look for that light to reach for.

And that's okay!

What matters is that you tell yourself it'll be okay, and that you just have to make it through the hard times with a smile! I know it sounds a little bit silly, but I've learned over the years that "fake it til you make it" is genuinely good advice!

When you're losing hope, you have to tell yourself that it'll be okay in the end, no matter what. Even if you look at yourself saying that and go "that's silly, look how bad things are right now" you have to keep telling yourself it'll be okay in the end! It doesn't matter if you don't believe it yet, you'll start to believe it one day.

And then, one day, you won't have to force yourself to tell yourself it'll be okay in the end, you'll do it without even thinking.

It's the same for if you're doubting your skills or talents in something! Tell yourself you're amazing, even if you don't believe it yet, and you'll notice your confidence will start climbing up more and more day by day!

And, if it's too hard for you to do it all by yourself? I'll get it started for you.

So, oh, before I forget, I do study English literature and translation ( Arabic - English) btw you're a teacher? I saw some anon I think (💜 anon?) Wishing you a happy teacher's day idk about it cause we don't celebrate that here but yeah I didn't know that sounds fun! Let me guess (English teacher?)

So you know, yesterday I had a relaxing shower and afterward I wanted to style my curly/wavy hair naturally, so I think k it's a mix of 2a and 2b and that's funny cause I really tried like I saw some pics on pinterest and some videos on tiktok that motivated me but I kinda failed? 😭😭 I just rubbed the cream into my hair and pulled it back into 2 low buns but that's funny cause just before going to bed (I'm struggling with insomnia I've been staring at the ceiling since 1am and now it's 4am😭)anyway so I just fixed my hair to bed and it looked good! Like I had put effort into it, but I didn't! I think the curls aren't gonna make it till the morning🙈

So back to classes and huffs and puffs, my finals start on the 20th. I'm not nervous, tbh I'm excited, I wanna get over with these freaking exams to read my books in peace.

So.. Love and Other Words and The Rose Code, huh? They really sound so interesting. I'm gonna need to read them. I'm also planning on reading the Twisted and King series, and do you mind if I tell you that you need to check Interlude right the tuck now? It's so freaking good you need to read it. You'll shed many tears, istg never have I ever cried this much in my whole life in "that" specific chapter, but I just love angst! But I promise it's not like that, okay? It's just amazing amazing I'm currently reading insurgence (the sequel) it's still on going bur I just love this book so much. I hope Mikii considers publishing it someday!

I am a teacher! A math teacher actually if you can believe it. Writing is just a hobby of mine and I love it, but it's only for me. Teaching math is much more enjoyable than teaching English (at least I imagine so). In the US we have teacher appreciation week to recognize teachers' hard work. I had one of my current students write me a letter and one of my students last year messaged me to wish me well. But it's not that exciting tbh--well, I do get a lot of coupons emailed to me hehehe

I know NOTHING about hair. (Literally had to google what 2b meant) I make my sister figure out what I need to do and then I just do what she says. I think we might have the same hair type though based on the pictures I googled! I have one curl cream thing that I put in my hair and scrunch each morning and then hope for the best (and that there will be low humidity). It's cool to experiment with your hair, even if it doesn't turn out the way you want it to in the morning! Then you know for the next trial. Of course I tolerate you--even though that's not what I would call it, I love to hear what you're doing!

I bet you're going to crush your exams! It sounds like you're ready for it! Books in peace is a MOOD. I'm excited for you!

My favorite piece I've written oh boy. Umm...I think it would be Protection. Or maybe Zipper. Idk I feel guilty picking one over the other and I love writing them all. I will tell you I think I like Protection more than Traditional which is probs sacrilege to write on my own blog because I think everyone under the sun would choose Traditional over Protection hahahaha but I liked planning Protection more than Traditional. Although Dolcezza really took hold of my heart VERY hard. Especially lately. Probably one of the three: Zipper, Dolcezza, or Protection.

I hope studying has gone/went well and you got some sleep after being up so late! You're going to have a wonderful future, I'm sure of it, and don't worry about forgetting something. I'm not going anywhere! 💕
