I've complained about this before but the biggest problem with Ikémen vampire is just the main conflict just doesn't freaking work. look dawg, the destruction of Magnus Hirschfeld's Institute was an important moment in the Holocaust, but I feel like ever since goyische tumblr learned about it it's literally all they talk about. People have just instantly latched onto it because it's something that makes them feel connected. "Those famous pictures of Nazi book burnings are them burning gay and trans research" comes off as less of recontextualizing history and more of "omg that's me! I'm famous!". The fact that it's brought up in every conversation about the Holocaust now, even when the discussion is about the specific persecution of other groups, is highly suspect. When Jews talk about the Holocaust, we don't view the victims as people like us. They are us. They're our parents and grandparents, our great- uncles and aunts. In every generation we must see ourselves as if we left Egypt

JKR is engaging in Holocaust denial, but it's a soft sort of denial. Someone told her the Nazis hated trans people, and she responded "nuh-uh" because she didn't want to believe trans people have been around for that long. It's bad, sure, but we already knew she was a shitty person. I think it's a better opportunity to discuss the process of radicalization and closed-loop ideological thinking than to shit on the internet's favorite punching bag with your new favorite factoid. Jews right now are experiencing violent antisemitism. Bomb threats, death threats, rape threats have become the norm for a lot of us, but I have yet to see that discussed with the same fervor as JKR being shitty for the gajillionth time. If you truly want to make yourself a part of the living history of the Holocaust, you have to understand how to fight for what's important. You have to learn how to protect what you love, not just destroy what you hate. It's very important not to lose the plot here

It's crucial that we remember that the book burnings were primarily about Jews. Joseph Goebbels proclaimed in Berlin "The era of extreme Jewish intellectualism is now at an end. The breakthrough of the German revolution has again cleared the way on the German path...The future German man will not just be a man of books, but a man of character." The German Student Union described book burnings as a "response to a worldwide Jewish smear campaign against Germany and an affirmation of traditional German values." Science, study, reason, progress were all seen as Jewish plots to destroy society (wonder where else we've seen that). Magnus Hirschfeld was persecuted because he was gay and his Institute was full of gay and trans people, yes. But it was also because he was a Jew, and a man of science who was pushing the boundaries of medical care for LGBT people. Just. something to think about

Having spent pretty much the entire year immersed in studying Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, and genocide more broadly, my heart is bursting with the need to stress how much you should take Project 2025 seriously. This is a long post but please stick with me.

Don't take this post as an attempt to concretely predict anything. We can't ever fully know the future and I think it's silly to say with total certainty “if Trump wins then America will become just like Nazi Germany” - not only because the future isn't written yet, but also because Germany under the Nazis was a very specific regime with its own quirks and peculiarities and I don't think that even a worst-case-scenario Trump regime would look exactly like Hitler's Germany. No two regimes ever look exactly alike: it would use the same colour palette as all far-right dictatorships but be constructed from a different medium, like what a watercolour is to an oil painting.

But just because Trump is a very different person from Hitler, and a worst-case-scenario Trump dictatorship would not literally be “Nazi Germany all over again”, that doesn't mean that what happened in Germany isn't instructive here. Forget the specifics of whether or not Trump as a dictator would organise a state identically to how the Nazis organised Germany or whatever; on a far broader and more relevant level, there is a distressing number of similarities. And too many people are falling into the same thought traps as they did then.

Please don't assume that Trump is “way too incompetent” to achieve what's in Project 2025 or Agenda 47. They said the same thing about Hitler. They said that there was no way this showman could govern effectively - holding big rallies and making speeches that get people riled up isn't the same as being good at running a functioning state and achieving what you want. The New York Times even wrote after he became Chancellor of Germany that this would only “let him expose to the German public his own futility”. And in many ways Hitler was pretty incompetent. But that didn't end up mattering. The greatest crime of the Nazi regime, the Holocaust, was masterminded mostly by a whole load of people besides Hitler, who were delegated the nitty-gritty task of actually orchestrating it. Hitler's personal incompetence didn't prevent war or genocide.

Please don't assume that Trump is “just a wacky nutcase” who “can't possibly be a real risk”. They said the same thing about Hitler. The mainstream media gave constant coverage to all the crazy extreme things Hitler said as if he was merely a bit of a joke and not a massive threat. The Nazis were quite happy with this. To quote Goebbels repeatedly in his diary, “The main thing is they're talking about us.”

Please don't assume that being in power will “moderate” Trump and that “of course he won't be able to do all the crazy stuff once he actually has to govern”. They said the same thing about Hitler. It was a common sentiment in the early 1930s that all the sensible politicians around him would force him to moderate his stances. Fritz von Papen, the last Chancellor of Weimar Germany, persuaded President Hindenburg to make Hitler the Chancellor by assuring him, “In a few months, we will have pushed [Hitler] so far into the corner that he will squeak.” It turns out that power doesn't “moderate” people who are openly talking about a dictatorship.

Please don't assume that there's any truth to the whole “Trump has nothing to do with Project 2025 and trying to link it to him is just liberal hysteria” line. They said the same thing about Hitler. People repeatedly asserted that Nazi street violence wasn't really representative of the party leadership; it wasn't representative of Hitler. He was even subpoenaed by a very brave lawyer in 1931 in a bid to prove that recent violence by Nazi stormtroopers was committed with the knowledge and encouragement of the party leadership, with part of the prosecution's argument hanging on a pamphlet by Goebbels that promised a violent overthrow of the state if the Nazis couldn't come to power legitimately. Surely no legal political party could be publishing that. In a successful attempt to escape criminal charges, Hitler repeatedly lied that the pamphlet was not official Nazi Party material and that he didn't know anything about it. No Trump didn't write it, no it isn't an official GOP manifesto, but the links between Project 2025 and Trump, the previous Trump administration, and Trump allies are extremely well documented. Just the other day, Project 2025 co-author Russell Vought was caught calling Trump's disavowals of the document “graduate-level politics” and saying, “what he's doing is just very, very conscious distancing himself from a brand ... he's in fact not even opposing himself to a particular policy.”

Please don't assume that “there's no way something like that could happen here; we're way too educated and advanced”. They said the same thing about Hitler. The Germany of the 1920s and 1930s was one of the most educated and most scientifically and industrially advanced nations in the world, and its cities were some of the most progressive in the world. People were stunned and horrified that it was in Germany of all places - Germany, land of music and art and science and literature! - that fascism took root. Germany's economic and social advancement didn't stop about 40% of its voters choosing the Nazis. It didn't stop them taking power.

Please don't assume that Project 2025 is “just a wishlist” and “not actually a serious plan”. They said the same thing about Hitler. As is hopefully very clear by now, plenty of people did not think that the Nazis were capable of, or would dare to try, putting into actual practice the horrific ideas about race that undergirded so much of their ideology. “I like Hitler; he talks sense economically and I think all this stuff about Jews is just bluff and bluster.” “Every party has a loony wing, right? You have to understand they're not serious when they talk about this stuff; they're just telling their base what they want to hear.” “God have you heard this crazy race science shit about head shapes and stuff? It's hilarious! I'm sure none of them at the top really believe that; there's no way they'd be that nuts.” When a group of people like this tells you what they believe and tells you what they want to do with power, believe them. No matter how ridiculous they seem, they're not joking.

In the words of Hans Litten, the lawyer who subpoenaed and cross-examined Hitler in that court case in 1931, “Don't listen to him; he's telling the truth.” Litten was arrested on the night of the Reichstag fire in 1933 and spent the rest of his life being tortured in concentration camps before dying in Dachau in 1938 at the age of 34.

A tyrannical dictatorship can often be seen coming a mile away. I don't want to imply for a second that what the Nazis did came as a surprise to everyone and couldn't possibly have been predicted. There were people who saw this coming in the 1920s and 1930s and tried to sound the alarm while they still had a chance. But they were too often in the minority, taking the threat seriously while others had convinced themselves that there was no need for concern because the Nazis wouldn't really do all the things they repeatedly talked about wanting to do. Everyone should have seen this coming, but too many people wanted to believe it couldn't be true.

Don't let this scare you. Let it energise you. Talk to the people in your life about Project 2025 and Agenda 47. Push back against people who assert that “they'd never actually do all that stuff” or “Trump didn't even write Project 2025” or “it's not a real plan, just a list of crazy shit to get the base riled up”. Have conversations with folks you know who are on the fence about voting or about who to vote for and who seem persuadable. Make sure you're registered to vote, and keep making sure, especially if you live in a red state where people keep mysteriously dropping off voter rolls.

Now, again, please don't read this as some confident prediction that Trump will be a Hitler figure. I want to stress that is a worst-case scenario. If a Trump presidency is what happens, I would much prefer the best-case scenario: that he spends four years fumbling around and not really accomplishing anything and then gives up power at the end without much of a fight. But it would also be a folly to be smugly overconfident that the worst-case scenario “won't” or “can't” happen. It could. It has happened before. There is no reason it couldn't happen again.

“Let’s wait for Emmanuelle to come before we start talking.” said Zoller, making a guy you worked for sigh.

They continued their discussion while you looked at the entrance at the other end of café. Your table was isolated from others highlighting the importance of men at the table - Frederick Zoller and Joseph Goebbels who you worked for.

You knew that somewhere close was Hans Landa but you didn't see him.

As you were waiting you noticed some noise slightly dying up. The change of the people at the other tables was so small - you barely noticed it - when two people entered. A blonde girl and tall man in leather uniform. You guessed that the woman would be Emmanuelle Mimieux but the second person you knew.

Officer Dieter Hellstrom.

You meet him once marginally, Goebbels introduced the two of you out of politeness.

Mimieux and Hellstrom walked up to your table. Her expression was slightly annoyed while his walk behind her was confident as if not letting her escape. Zoller stood up like an exited puppy making my eyes roll.

Zoller introduced the blonde to Goebbels and you. You politely shook her hand.

“And you met the Major.” he turned to Hellstrom.

“I didn't introduce myself. Major Dieter Hellstrom of the Gestapo. At your service.” he told her, his demeanor has changed slightly. You noticed that in Emmanuelle's eyes. He was probably an asshole to her before. He chuckled but there was nothing nice about it.

“Have a seat please.” he pointed at the seat. After she sat down he poured champagne for her and himself. He took a seat next to you.

You translated the conversation between Goebbels and Mimieux feeling the gaze of Gestapo officer on you. The four of you continued to talk for a while, the tall man only watched you without a word. He looked slightly amused by the discussion which to your surprise made you glad, knowing that you're not the only one finding Frederick's actions ridiculous and a little bit pathetic.

“Ah, Landa, here you are.” announced Goebbels as an older man entered. You uncontrollably straightened up your posture which to Hellstrom exhaled as some sort of chuckle. You looked at him surprised but others didn't seem to notice this interaction - fully focused on Landa. He smiled at you and casually turned his attention to others, leaving you to wonder if he actually smiled or did he just continue some sort of secret mockery.

Goebbels excused himself, not saying anything to you. You wanted to stand up and follow him but Hellstrom gripped the backrest of your seat, stopping you from pushing back your chair. His hand clenched on the wooden chair was almost touching the skin on your neck. You could feel the heat emanating from his fingers.

“Don’t leave so soon.” his voice drained with mockery. “I believe you know officer? Landa.”

Your eyes flickered up to Hans Landa. You answered unsure.

“Yes… We met.”

Older man took your hand and brought your palm to his lips.

“Pleasure to meet you again.” he said, still holding your hand as you smiled politely hiding the fact that you wanted to get away.

Hellstrom continued to stare into your face as you took my arm away from Landa. Older man turned to Emmanuelle. You exhaled the breath you were holding in.

Dieter's hand was still gripping on the backrest of your seat trapping you. His eyes were focused on you and you struggled to hold his gaze.

“Perhaps you chose the wrong line of work if talking to german officials makes you so nervous?” he as asked in low voice as the rest of table was focused on themselves.

“I’m not nervous.” you mumbled as he leaned in closer.

“Of course you're not.” he said ironically, his voice quiet. You felt his thumb lightly caress the back of your neck sending shivers down your spine but you didn't react.

You cleared my throat hoping that he would stop before anyone noticed.

Then why did you felt disappointed when he brought his arm back to the table and cold air hit your skin?

He took out a pack of cigarettes from the pocket of his leather coat. He offered one to you as his fingers swiftly took one for himself.

“I don't smoke.” you said, Hellstrom slightly raised his brows and muttered.

“Well aren't you a good girl?” he casually lit his cigarette like he didn't just leave you speechless. The rhetorical question was supposed to be sarcastic but he kept a straight face. You wondered if he was flirting or did he just want some sort of reaction from you.

He inhaled and blew a smoke in the air. Your eyes traced his jaw clenching as he exhaled.

“I hope you wouldn't mind if I talked to Miss Mimieux. I have a couple of questions regarding the safety of the cinema." Hans Landa interrupted your thoughts.

Gestapo officer nodded and stood up. You followed his footsteps as he left. You went outside the café, the bell rang as the doors closed behind you. He continued to smoke as he watched people walking on the other side of the street. Another smoky exhale came out of his mouth, this time his unreadable eyes focused on you. He tapped off the ashes, his fingers playing with the cigarette.

“We've met already, right?” he asked, his piercing eyes not leaving your face.

“Yes.” you said recalling it “At a banquet few months ago.” you continued after he doesn't didn't say anything. He nodded thoughtfully, pausing for a second.

“How’s your job going?” he threw away the rest of his cigarette, crushing it with his combat boot.

“I’d say pretty good.”

“Good.” he gave you a wry smile.

There was a moment of palpable silence between the two of you. The suffocating stillness carried more than words. Hellstrom didn't move, his presence had an underlying unease even in silence. The air between the two if you seemed to thicken with every second. The seconds stretched as if the two of you were playing a careful game. Who caves in first?

It was a power move - the calculated pause.

You could sense Major's mind working and waiting for your move. Expecting you to maybe break quiet or - if you were going to be stubborn - stand in the tense silence.

He signed breaking the soundlessness. His eyes softening ever so slightly.

“How old are you again?” his hand slipping into his pocket as he asked.

“Uh… 24.” I answered.

“Good enough.” I looked at him confused. He took out a pack of cigarettes and a pen from his pocket. But before i could speak he asked again.

“Are you free tomorrow?” his voice not giving anything away wasn't helpful.

“Yes.” I looked up at his face as he took out a cigarette and started scribbling something on it. Only now you noticed how taller he was standing next to you. You furrowed your brows confused as he handed it to you. Your fingers traced against his as you took a cigarette from him.

“It’s an address, be there at seven.” he said as he walked back towards the entrance to café. As he passed by he was so close you could still smell the cigarettes and a hint of cologne.

“And dress nice.” he added with a smug smile cracking through his cold exterior.

Before you could answer he disappeared inside. You fidgeted with the cigarette feeling the excitement building up in your chest.

Israel’s Enemies Tell Five Big Lies

Following the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, antisemites mount a series of vicious attacks, threats and malicious lies against Jews and Israel

With no shame or sign of humanity, the enemies of Israel have doubled down on their insistence that Israel is an illegitimate state that must be destroyed and that the savage slaughter of 1,200 innocent Jews was justified—all based on five “Big Lies” about the Jewish state.

What are the facts?

The world for Jews and Israel will never be the same. Wellesley College students receive official messages saying Zionists (i.e. most Jewish students) are not welcome in the school’s dorms. Hamas official Ghazi Hamad in a TV rant swears Hamas will repeat October 7 over and over until Israel is annihilated. West Bank Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi says “What Hitler did to you was a joke—we will drink your blood and eat your skull.”

While Hamas’s October 7 atrocity shattered the hope of many Palestinian supporters, causing them to rethink their positions, the event only ignited an explosion of hate from other of Israel’s enemies. Tens of thousands of demonstrators made clear they no longer support two states living side by side in peace. Rather they demand “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free . . . by any means necessary”—meaning, clearly, slaughter of civilians.

Power of Big Lies: Though Israel was the victim of a mass murder of innocent Jews, its enemies blame the Jewish state—not only for the Hamas massacre, but also for responding in defense. The reasons many blame Israel for the atrocity are based on five Big Lies. Big Lies were used by Nazi leader Goebbels, who noted that if he told an outrageous lie often enough, people would begin to believe it. Alternatively, if you use truth as a basis for your judgments, you may these facts useful:

Lie #1: Israel is a colonial state that stole Palestinian land. A colonizer is a foreign nation that conquers and exploits another nation. First, the Palestinians have never controlled any land in Palestine: They were also never a nation. Nothing was stolen. Second, Jews are the indigenous people of the land of Israel. They have lived there continuously for 3,000 years and had two commonwealths for over 1,000 years: They are not foreigners. No colonial state.

Lie #2: Israel commits genocide. Genocide is the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group by killing its members. Israel does not, nor has ever, targeted innocent Palestinian civilians for killing—no mass murders, no pogroms. All Palestinian civilian deaths have occurred as collateral damage while fighting terrorists who hide in residential or other public areas. Tellingly, the population in in and around Israel has mushroomed since Israel’s founding in 1948—from about 700,000 to seven million today: Zero genocide.

Lie #3: Israel practices apartheid. Apartheid is a system of legalized racial segregation in which one racial group is deprived of political and civil rights. Israel has no laws or policies separating or limiting the rights of any of its citizens—including two million Arab-Israeli citizens—nor any Palestinians outside Israel. Political and civil rights of all Palestinians outside Israel are controlled by their respective dictatorships, who allow virtually no freedoms, such as speech or the vote. No apartheid.

Lie #4: Israel is committing war crimes. War crimes include torture, hostage taking, acts of terrorism, rape and intentional targeting of civilians. While Hamas committed all these acts on October 7, Israel commits none. Though some media bristle at what they consider excessive civilian deaths during Israeli military efforts, in fact, Israel attacks only military structures and personnel—never civilian-only targets. Unfortunately, Hamas places its fighters in dense residential areas or in tunnels beneath them, endangering civilians. No Israeli war crimes.

Lie #5: Israel brutally oppresses the Palestinians daily. Oppression is the malicious exercise of power to discriminate against some groups. Because Israel completely exited Gaza in 2005, it has no power over of the daily lives of Gazans. However, because of Hamas’s continuous terror, especially efforts to kill Jews and destroy the Jewish state, Israel and Egypt have placed Gaza under a strict blockade to prevent terror attacks. Likewise, because of the Oslo Accords, Israel and the Palestinian Authority share governance of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank). Thus, Israel plays virtually no role governing Palestinians daily lives and only enters Palestinian-controlled areas when terrorists flee to and hide in them. No oppression.

Above all, Israel and the U.N. have made numerous offers of land for an independent Palestinian state. Unfortunately, the Palestinians have turned down five offers of land for peace since 1948, three of them over the last 23 years. When viewing the children's bodies, Voß identified all of them as Goebbels' children, as he had seen them several times; One of the girls, Goebbels' daughter Heide, who was four years old, had been to Voß's apartment several times with her parents.

First, Gareth Jones, a Welsh freelance reporter who was in Germany in the early 1930s, reporting on the Nazis coming to power, trying to analyze why it happened and reporting on the nazis beliefs to make the world understand how insane they were, and how horrible their methods were, warning about how dangerous those developments were, for Germany and for the rest of the world. He did interview Hitler and other high ranking pieces of shit at the time, to cite in his reporting. He was very explicitly not a nazi in any way, shape or form.

But thank you for prompting me to read some of his reporting, it's a fascinating look at the era.

This exchange came when Vance peddled the lie that, “In Springfield, Ohio…we’ve brought in millions of illegal immigrants to compete with Americans for scarce homes.”

He then added, “The people that I'm most worried about in Springfield, Ohio, are the American citizens who have had their lives destroyed by Kamala Harris's open border.” After Tim Walz responded slamming Trump for submarining the bipartisan border security bill that would have addressed the issue and more, that is when co-moderator Margaret Brennan stated, “And just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status.” Brennan did not fact check the litany of other lies in Vance’s statement such as Harris had created “open borders” or that Harris “brought in millions of illegal immigrants,” etc. Brennan simply stated the truth that the Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio have legally entered the United States. Yet that comment angered Vance who believed that like at the CNN presidential debate, he should be able to use a national debate watched by millions to mislead the America public. At that point, Vance raised his voice to interrupt the co-moderators to bellow, “Margaret. The rules were that you guys were going to fact check.”  From there Vance tried to bully the two female co-moderators by speaking over them to the point the microphones were shut off for a moment. That angered Trump and MAGA world. They understand that having a fellow candidate fact check Vance or Trump will be meaningless for many viewers because it appears to be just political rancor. But when a moderator of a respected network calls out a candidate’s lie in real time, it actually is effective at destroying the lie. [...] There should never be a presidential or vice-presidential debate in the future that does not feature real time fact checking. The candidates are not there to be journalists, but to share their vision for the nation. Fact checking after the debate is just about meaningless. But as we saw with the Harris-Trump debate, fact checking in real time flags to the viewers that a candidate is lying about basic facts. This is how we protect our Republic from people like Trump--who attempted a coup, incited the Jan 6 attack and was convicted of 34 felonies for cheating in the 2016 campaign—from ever being elected President.

If the Russians had captured Goebbels, he likely would have faced a brutal death, given his high rank in the Nazi regime. As for Magda and the children, their fate would have been grim. The Soviets were known for harsh reprisals, and Magda could have been subjected to severe punishment, possibly execution. The children, though innocent, might have been taken away or even killed, as revenge was often swift and brutal in the chaos of war. The tragic reality is that their situation, if captured, would have likely been filled with suffering. And thank you very much ♥️
