since I've seen it talked about in several places recently:

if you are going to do a whump- or kink- or ANY-tober or other similar challenges please please please don't post them as one fic with 31 chapters unless it actually is one coherent fic. if they're 31 completely separate fics or ficlets then please just make a collection for them or just post them as separate fics. it doesn't matter if they're only 100 words or if you think they're too small or insignificant to post alone, they're not.

and why this?

because if you post all 31 of them in one fic the tagging is absolutely useless. if I look for things to read on ao3 I'm gonna look at the tags, and if the tags include something that's a dealbreaker for me, i won't even click on the fic. I might not even SEE the fic because I've filtered out the nope-tag! so I'm gonna lose out on reading 30 perfectly nice fics because of one fic that my nope-tag applied to.

ao3 is about archiving. it's about clear tagging and being informative. there is nothing informative about it if the tags in the fic apply to random chapters while others have nothing to do with it. it makes so much more sense to have each work as an individual fic with its own individual tags and warnings, so readers can make informed choices.

of course, you do you. I can't police what other people decide to do. but personally, I find it incredibly frustrating to weed through 31 chapters to find the ones I actually want to read. so I don't. I automatically scroll past all works posted like that. and I know some others do, too.

there is absolutely no shame in posting short things on ao3. there is no minimum word count. no one is going to look at you funny if you post a small ficlet on its own, I promise. it's just going to make some readers very happy when they can actually find the things they want to read.

so, please. at least consider the upsides of posting each work as their own fic.

i love when i discover a new author from a really good fic, and i scroll far down enough into an their bookmarks and find a fic that has some similar scene to their fic, and then i go into the comments and see them gushing about the fic and i'm like I FOUND YOUR SECRETS. I SEE YOU

it's just endearing to me lmfao i bet if someone read my big stsg wip (stsgzume) and then read my favorite fics they'd be like "oh i see this homage to saturday night live (the stsg fic) or 1000 yen for a kiss everybody (the stsg fic) or 2 sorcerers (the stsg fic)"

one of the great things about fanfics is that like. a lot of it is already repeated content, eg. how many cafe aus or canon compliant aus can you possibly read that are completely entirely original plots, but fanfic readers are used to reading a lot of similar things and enjoying all of it rather than complaining about it being unoriginal or uninspired like with original work. i think it makes you pay more attention to the little artistic flourishes that stand out, like certain lines or descriptions or portrayals

which i think is beautiful!!! i think it's great to promote that kind of positivity around just writing what you want to (usually inspired by other people writing what they want to) rather than worrying over whether it'll be the most groundbreaking drama someone will ever read. it's seriously just the two cakes meme which is just such a great way of interacting with media i think lol

so just some heads up from ole parmo:

1. i do not write for A*rcane anymore and i don't foresee myself picking it back up. trust me, go look at my ao3 and you'll see that i've done my time in those particular salt mines.

2. you can find my ao3 account here. all my fics are posted there, and i no longer post full stories/chapters on tumblr - only snippets and previews. almost all my A*rcane fics have been removed from tumblr and are only on ao3 with the exception of the stray drabble that i couldn't find when migrating things.

3. this is an 18+ blog. i say dumb shit and post dumb shit and i'm horny on main for fictional characters.

The way they mesh, the way their views on mortality clash and both soothe & bruise… He doesn’t have much time left even in best case scenario (which Mr I won’t eat well I’ll drink and smoke a lot I’ll stress all day every day is determined to not make happen) which makes it all the more meaningful for Marcille’s arc when she learns from him to finally enjoy the present moments… It’ll only be a fraction of her life, but to him he’s giving her the rest of his life. What are some decades of love worth? Worth it, surely, if nothing else

honestly after having so much writers block the last few weeks/months, i was a little afraid i was never gonna be able to finish something ever again, at least not without lots of struggle. these last few days have been very reassuring

i don’t really care about stats because if I do I’ll get way too caught up in my head (I already do) I just like writing for fun and eating up all the other incredible works by writers in the phandom but I find it almost comical that my fic that has the least amount of kudos has the most bookmarks (well over half of which are private) (slight exaggeration on both sides) i guess I can’t really judge bc I have a habit of creating private bookmarks too since before I started writing I really don’t care in fact it would make my life easier for recommending fics if I left them public but we as a society have got to stop the shame around liking reading porn guys I swear nooooooo one cares what you like reading or freakin it to and it would make a writers day if you told them you liked reading it 👉👈

the dunmeshi yuri discourse feels wild to me because it just feels like the wrong series to be doing this with. yes farcille is a juggernaut ship but like. the series is still made up of a mostly male cast and the more important side characters are also male. for a while its just marcille until izutsumi gets added and she's a teenager so no shipping with most characters for her. if we're being honest this is not a series where its a shock or an upset for there to be more m/m.

not to mention that farcille is still the most overall popular dunmeshi ship on ao3 by far, the m/m to f/f ratio seems to me that there are several m/m ships being rotated around where with f/f its mostly farcille with a couple of minor ships. the only other f/f ship ive seen any consistent content for in the fandom is namari/kiki, a little bit of izutsumi/tade, and some canary ladies.

While dunmeshi is a great series that resists a lot of anime tropes about portraying women and body types I feel like we still owe it to ourselves to be honest in that most of the central character are men who, with the exception of senshi, are pretty slim, women included (falin is fat in my HEART-). I dont really say this to critique ryoko kui, but just because I think its best to temper our expectations about what the story actually includes. you cant hang everything on "but look how well farcille is written" when, while I do love them, falin admittedly spends a good chunk of the series as a plot device more then a person. the glimpses of her self we get are really fascinating to me, and I would confidently say she's a character in her own right, but it would be disingenuous to claim she couldn't have used more screen time or depth into how she feels during all this crazy shit that's happened to her.

Not rude at all, and thanks so much, that's so nice!! :'D It doesn't have a specific update schedule though, sorry! I just write whenever I have the time and inspiration to do so, then when it feels like a chapter's pretty close to being done, I'll usually give a few day's notice of when I expect it to be posted, but that's about it, lol. I feel like the next chapter is probably still a week or two away from being done, but who knows, really! (THANK YOU, I LOVE WRITING THAT JERK LOL)

writing a felix and turbo centric fic and while trying to get inspiration i just keep thinking about how boring their ship name is like ... '80s boyfriends' dude that could refer to like any ship between boyfriends from the 80s ... like yeah it's a serviceable name but like it feels so unspecial ... glad it has the alternative 'hammertastic' tho i like that one a lot better it's more creative

while i'm at it i really like the ship name 'heroes cuties' LIKE ??? love that it's so perfect ... it also kinda works in a double way bc like not only does it rhyme with 'duty' they are also both heroes and they are cute together <3 also while 'sour candy' is kinda plain in contrast to other names since it incorporates the characters' names i mean like yeah it makes perfect sense idk what else you'd call it ... i don't really like either these ships but the names 'sledgehammer' and 'demolition derby' are also very good ...
