Okay, OKAY, this might sound dumb of me, but I was rereading (again 😭) and I NEED to gush about this for a second, because it's such a small writing detail, but I love it so much

In a lot of fanfics I read where children are part of the main cast alongside adult characters, I feel like sometimes writers fall into a pit-trap of making the child sound weirdly "adult" in how they speak to better match them with the other characters. (That, or they make them overly stupid by comparison, but that's a different pickle.) Here, though, is a perfect example of how you manage to keep Vanellope's emotional intelligence intact while also acknowledging that she is a child and isn't going to naturally bust out words like "ostracization". It could've been easy to have her just say the sentence sans the verbal stumbling, using the excuse of "Oh, she heard King Candy say it exactly once weeks ago, it's just a call-back to that conversation!" but it simply wouldn't have sounded natural to how kids talk. I like that you DID call back to the older conversation, but also had Vanellope stumble over her words there because it's not something she'd normally say and she wouldn't be likely to remember it perfectly just from one old comment. It adds so much naturalness to the conversation and I'm kind of nerding out over it but anywho, that's all I wanted to say, hope you're having a good one!

Tbh sometimes I think I do still fall into the trap of like, kinda the whole thing you said with making them too "adult-like" in speaking compared to normal children, but I do think part of that has to do with the fact that she's just, like, dealing with situations that a kid shouldn't be going through in the first place, so it's gonna be a mess regardless I guess KJAUJSDHHXSJCD (And she is naturally pretty clever as we see in the movie at points, so I feel like risking making her sound a little smarter than what might be natural is the better road to take rather than dumbing her down, lmfao)
