🍍Pineapple Tea🍍

The way I do it is really simple:

Buy a giant jug of already-made tea (I like gold peak!)

Buy a carton of pineapple juice

Freeze the juice into cubes, pour a little of it in the tea for extra flavor

And that's it. That's aaaall you gotta do.

There's all kindsa ways you can dress it up, but nine times out of ten I just do this and drink it by the gallon when it's hot out.

If you wanna get fancy with it, feel free to cold brew your own black (or green) tea, add actual hunks of pineapple fruit in there, add some orange juice, add some honey, add some coconut milk or sweetened condensed milk, whatever sounds good! (Also, pairing pineapple tea with coconut cookies? SO GOOD.) Put mint in the pineapple cubes if you like mint! Add a bit of boiled ginger root or some brown sugar and cinnamon for a little kick! Heck, last summer I used blue peaflower star-shaped ice cubes just because they were pretty.

(Peaflower petals don't taste like much, but they make a GORGEOUS blue, and if you put something acidic in there like lemon juice IT TURNS PINK. :D)

🍓Strawberry Tea🍓

I find this stuff sort of difficult to find where I live, so often I go the same route as the pineapple tea: grab a jug of black tea, grab a jug of strawberry juice, (ocean spray has a really nice cran-strawberry one I like) freeze the juice, mix, and enjoy. Super simple.

If I can't find strawberry juice, I dice some strawberries up and put it in a jar with some water and a bit of sugar for a few hours, then add *that* to the tea. (heck, it's really nice all by itself!)

What goes with strawberry? ANY DANG THING YOU WANT. I am particularly fond of lychee. Jasmine tea and rose petals pair really well with it too. Again, if you like mint, it's *really* nice with strawberry. And you know how if you put black pepper on strawberries they taste even strawberrier? (If you haven't tried this, go do it, it's magic.) Same goes with the tea, add some peppercorns or a teeny bit of chili powder or some ginger.

🍏Apple Tea🍏

As with the pineapple and strawberry teas, it's totally fine to just go find some ready-made tea and mix it with some apple cider or apple juice for tasty low spoons fun. If you drink it iced, a bit of sugar and lemon juice brings out the apple flavor nicely!

I prefer drinking this stuff hot though. You know that Fall Drink post that was floating around? IF YOU HAVEN'T YET, TRY IT, IT'S AWESOME.

☕Chai Tea☕

So here's the thing about chai for me personally: I don't tend to drink it iced or sugary, but if you do like it iced and sugary, there are a couple of really nice chai tea concentrates:

Pacific Chai isn't concentrated, but you can use it to make hot or iced chai and it's really lovely, not too sweet and super easy to work with. As for dressing up chai, I don't tend to! There's already so much going on with all the flavors, I just drink it as-is most days. Play with milk-to-tea ratios or sugar amounts all you like, figure out what's your jam.

This is how Papa got his start and then eventually also worked his way into carpentry (it takes some time, so this is as far as MC will be, but eventually they can also do carpentry). MCs that pick this may have special options or outcomes in the story because they will have better aptitude towards wielding a tool/weapon and will, in general, be stronger.

Carpentry-Carpenters take the wood from loggers and make things from it - furniture has a big market, but so do tools, utensils, and even art. They work in the fine details and beautification of wood. They also may be called upon to do some repairs to a home or assist in building bigger projects. MCs with this skill will have deft hands and an eye for detail.

Swordsmanship-If your MC has studied the blade, they're likely going to called upon to work as a guard or general peacekeeper for the area. MC's hometown is a bit sleepy, but isn't without trouble since it sees a fair few travelers. Duals are also a common form of entertainment as well as practice. MC's with this skill will have boost in hostile situations out in the world and be, in general, stronger.

Archery-If your MC has studied the bow they will also be called upon for guard duty. This is another very popular form of entertainment and sportsmanship in the world and there are almost never-ending tournaments that MC can be apart of both in and around the MC's hometown (this nets a lot of gold). MC's that master the bow will be second in skill only to their da (even if Oswin claims otherwise). MC's with this skill have a boost (from a distance) in battle, and nice strong arms. [This skill almost got a split between sporting (doing the competitions) and hunting, but there is already too much coding involved as is, so I didn't do it.]

Medicine/Herbalism-You need a healer in every party and MC can be a darn good one. MC's that study medicine mostly work with the established healer, Kavi, and his wife Betony (who specializes in midwifery). Lakota, MC's best friend, is also a practicing herbalist and will work with a healer MC. If your MC knows medicine, they'll not be as good in a fight, but a boon after it's over (assuming they are conscious...).

Trade-MC's that learned trade will be the money makers. They know what things are worth and can strike a deal with almost anyone. They may tend to be a bit more charismatic without much effort (they don't even need to be especially friendly, people just trust them). These MC's have a mind for numbers as well and are often good at spotting a scam. Not always so good in a fight though.

Cooking-MC's that have mastered cooking draw a great deal of attention from the wealthy. Eating isn't always a luxury in this world and need often comes before taste. Those that can forego need and afford the finer foods in life, will clamor for your MC's cooking. They prepare feasts and raise everyone's spirits with their skills. They have a lot of connections in high places. Cook MCs may not be super powerful (though those arms from kneading dough are nothing to balk at), but they wield knives with terrifying grace.

In Chapter 3 your MC will also get to pick a hobby that they primarily do for fun, but that may add some extra flavor for their usual occupation. [Singing, drawing/painting, sculpting, storytelling, whittling, and needlework]

Fannish Year Review (2023)

1. Your main fandom of the year: The X-Files (always); but also the Duchovny fandom. It was a fun ride the entire year. And the late bloomer was Beauty and the Beast 1987-- thank you, amplifyme, for roping me in. ;))

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year: For me? Strangely, the Barbie movie. Glad everyone else vibed with it-- seemed like a fun time~. The excitement and fun and memes were wonderful, regardless.

9. Your TV/movie boyfriend of the year: The boyfriendification phenomenon ended for me in middle school when I realized I crushed on people who were simply a version of myself or a trait I aspired to attain (this was in middle school, I believe.) Haven't felt that way since. :DD

Scully tied with Diana Bennett but for different reasons. Scully because her fashion-- sleek, professional, simple-- is my style incarnate; but more importantly, her beautiful (hand model's) manicures finally got me to notice and take care of my own nails (more). Diana because she wasn't afraid of other people or how they perceived her. I also admire both of their work ethics, their body language, and the individual ways they talk.

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year: I squee over "real" people, e.g. my mutuals and their creativity and good days, DD's successes this year and his family hanging out and looking happy, making people laugh in the tags or sending asks that reinforces their value to the community or to me an individual, etc. Moments that we can come together as internet friends or irl strangers or even anons and enjoy whatever relationship we have in the moment, no matter if it changes, waxes or wanes. Because I have faith in the good ones; and I'm content knowing they're living life and either enjoying or working towards peace.

Dancing

It’s pretty obvious that Stella is clumsy. Really clumsy. So, when it becomes apparent that it’s not something she is going to overcome alone, at around five years of age, her mom contacts a dance instructor from Callisto to give her lessons twice a week. Stella doesn’t like it. Callistian music is enchanting, but a little too slow for her Solarian heart. She does all she can to get out of those lessons – she fakes temperatures (which is tricky, because Solarians’ body temperature is already a little higher than normal, due to their connection with the Sun and the heat in general), headaches, injuries of every sort … it's only when, sneaking into the ballroom during a party, when she was supposed to be already asleep, she sees her mom and dad dancing together, and smiling, that she decides to give dancing lessons a chance.

In the end, when she really starts trying, it doesn’t seem so bad. She learns to be more graceful, but unfortunately that applies only when she is dancing. And though Callistian music and dances are good, she prefers the Solarian ones. Especially the Dance of Happiness, her father had thought her that himself!

As she grows older, she has the honor of dancing both during Summer and Winter Solstice, joining the sun and moon dancers, respectively.

Sewing

Stella’s passion for fashion starts at an early age. Her first experiences with sewing regard altering her dolls’ clothes. When Luna enters her bedroom and finds little Stella in tears because she has pinched her finger with a needle, she sits down with her and decides she would teach her. She takes her to the Palace tailors and asks them to set up a workstation for her and the Princess.

Some of Stella’s most cherished memories of her childhood are of her and Luna bickering about color combinations and fabric. She and her mom DON’T have the same taste!

Power

Oh, she knows her parents are big shots, especially her dad. As a child, she always used to sneak into the throne room, sit her dolls on the floor and order them about from the throne. She loved playing Queen. Radius knows, of course. Everybody at court knows. When she is a little older, at nine or ten, the King allows her to sit by him during hearings and he starts teaching her what a King (or Queen) does and how they listen to their people. Those are maybe the only times when Stella manages to sit still and pay attention without falling asleep.

Birthdays

She know that her mom doesn’t like the Sun all that much, but Luna always makes an exception for Stella’s birthday. With Radius, they spend the day at the beach, building elaborate sandcastles, tanning (Radius and Stella), organizing fashion shows (Stella and Luna), and eating marshmallows. When the Suns go down, Luna moonbathes with her, while Radius tells them the story of the constellation of Stella’s choosing. For some reasons, those stories never leave her memory. She can name every star, constellation, and celestial body in Solaria and Callisto, and she is learning about the others.

Though the memories of those birthdays are carved in her heart, she knows those things have only happened two or three times. Her parents started growing apart when she was little, and though they always made an effort to make her birthday special, it wasn’t like before.

Singing

She doesn’t know many Callistian songs, but she knows hundreds in Solarian! Sacred and secular. Radius sings when he prays, and she sings too. It’s in the room of the Second Sun that she learns Old Solarian, when she sees her dad kneel and pray for strength, peace, and light. Always light. Light in the sky, light in his mind, light in their life.

Stella doesn’t sing in public, but she sings with Radius, from strong and meaningful songs to silly little ones. She’s sad when, getting older, she gets to do that less and less.

i’m on the fence between vampire and fae…… literally any kind of fair, pretty creature with a terrifying nature. vampire makes a lot of sense to me — pale and pretty and far too good at convincing you to let him linger near your neck… but there’s something really good abt fae!gojo too. a cute, charming creature who’s actually really horrific. skilled at tricking people. he invites you into the woods with the promise of a good time and before you know it you’re…. wedded to the fairy king? somehow???? no matter the option gojo is pretty chill tbh. not evil, just… mischievous :3 but he’s more than capable of being terrifying when he wants to be.

ANY KIND OF WATER CREATURE!! the one i always end up going back to is näcken…. a water spirit masquerading as a naked man, dutifully playing his violin by the river…. luring unsuspecting locals close so he can drown them <3 just like satoru he’s beautiful and terrifying. i momentarily considered a centaur too. i think that fits him!! centaurs are usually depicted as teacher figures in mythology and that’s just very suguru to me. and ofc i have to mention ghosts because they’re my favorites + suguru literally haunts the narrative of jjk <33 he’s a pretty sad ghost i think… just can’t let go of his grief. it consumes him and seeps into the air no matter where he goes. if you suddenly wake up to a freezing room and the flickering of your bedroom lights, it’s probably suguru.

How you met: Civilian You hummed as you finished up another cake. This was your artistic outlet. It was a slow Sunday, not many events going on, so you were finishing up on some orders for tomorrow. The bell to the shop rang and you wiped your hands of icing to greet your customer. The man looked crammed in the small shop as his dark hair almost touched the ceiling. You thought he looked handsome despite the face mask that matched his dark hoodie and attire. "Here to pick up for John Price," he said gruffly and you went to the back fridge to retrieve his order. You were surprised as you pulled out the cake decorated with gold and silver icing. You remembered making it this morning, buttercream and red velvet if you remembered correctly. "Happy 40th" it read in delicate lettering as you boxed it up. You exited to find the man looking at his phone and holding cash. "Here you go," you said as you rung him up. "You look a little too young to be celebrating someone's 40th," you commented as you counted out the cash. "It's for my boss," he replied curtly, "got sent to pick it up before tonight." As you handed him his change, you smiled. "Well let him know I wish him a happy birthday," you said and sent him on his way.

Later that day, Simon knew he would be returning to your shop as that was some the best confections he's had in awhile. Something about the delicate buttercream paired with the rich red velvet made him want more. Plus it didn't hurt that you were the cute little baker who caught his eye with your face coated in icing and arms filled with delicate pieces of artwork.

A peek into your relationship: "What are we listening to?" you boyfriend, Simon, asked as you decorated some cupcakes. "Depeche Mode," you smiled and placed a little icing on his scrunched up nose. You laughed as you finished up another row of the small baked goods. "It sounds like an opening to a crime show drama," he replied as another song began. You rolled your eyes as he critiqued your music taste. "You just don't know good music," you joked as you added some finishing touches. These weren't for anything special but you knew Simon enjoyed some sweet treats before he left for deployment. You always made sure to give him a nice array of icing and cake flavors. You still couldn't believe he hadn't found a favorite yet. "If you can even call that music," he said under his breath before you presented him with a carrot cake and cream cheese delicacy. Maybe it was the cupcake but Simon found himself in better spirits. "I like this song," he commented as you began to clean up. You couldn't believe your ears. "What did you say?" you teased as you brushed off your apron. "You heard me, love," he said as he scarfed down another one. "Funny," you began to say as he looked at your curiously, "that one is called 'Ghosts again'."

it’s another playlist anon and i’ve gone through almost all of them now! really kept listening for mark and haechan’s voices in those two, and omg “so am i” or “crash landing”? had forgot how mark sounded in them! n haechan “the rainy night” and “round&round” didn’t give him enough cred for his voice in those! as for the vibelists? these were so exciting to get to listen to! i knew you’re a swiftie but starting with “gold rush” and i would never have thought her songs could fit him so well but you’re damn right mark would nail that so good. his soft but rough and dipping into darker pitches? but especially the softness with it? would work so good man. “lost”????? that’s so good literally made for mark. all so well chosen for him! and starting with mariah carey for haechan is the most clever move i’ve seen omg. same as for mark, wouldn’t have thought of that before but that’s so true. his voice could do her songs real justice! stayc too i’m a little obsessed with imagining haechan singing them actually! also to add “bambi” to this list feels like a celebration to haechan be deserved that but also i bet he’d be very proud you put it in there. he’d do it so well! agreed, songs like “instagram” belong with them both etc omg i’m just so grateful for the time u put into making these for me and us! thank you, i might just continue to listen to your playlists if that’s ok! they’re literally perfect! it feels like just what i was wishing for without actually knowing exactly what i was wishing for! thank you for spoiling me and us like this 😭💖💖💖 your mind, your taste, and your generosity!
