All the “kiss the homies goodnight” memes to me are a manifestation of the fact that straight men yearn for platonic physical intimacy just as much as women do. Men crave to be physically and emotionally close to people, and yet only believe they should have these things in romantic relationships. Hugs and cuddles are reserved only for their girlfriends, and so when they don’t have one, they simply don’t get these things. Platonic physical intimacy is so healing, and while women place high value on this in friendships, straight men are too caught up in “masculinity” to consider it.
