Tao is a really great example of heterosexuality that just doesn’t give a fuck about conforming to heteronormativity. He hugs his friends so much, he’s not concerned at all about being perceived as gay, he’s an ally (but he never demands rewards for it - he doesn’t even seem to think about it much, it’s just what friends do). He's openly loving and emotional.

That's not to say Tao isn't struggling with masculinity. How could he not? Everything about him is a challenge to normative masculinity (which is always white, straight, etc). He's clearly on the outer at Truham, and while he hasn't been bullied the way Charlie has, he's part of that less-socially-accepted circle. And he responds aggressively to it, he gets dragged into Harry's bullshit so easily, and responds to Harry's bullying in kind. Let's be honest, sometimes it's satisfying to see Tao get the better of Harry, but it's not the most constructive way to solve the problem - as Tao says himself, even with all his good intentions, it just ends up making things worse.

Of course he fucks up sometimes - who doesn’t? He’s insecure, and that makes him behave in ways that hurt the people closest to him. And there are some interesting parallels between Tao's insecurtiy and the way a lot of other straight guys are insecure. He's afraid of losing people, of not being good enough, of not being enough, and he lashes out because of it. He leads with anger instead of vulnerability. But where some guys require other people (often women) in their life to do the work of making it better, he recognises where the responsibility lies and works on it himself. He sets an example of how guys can find their way out of those harmful habits.

Tao also leans a bit into the resentful nerd stereotype in ways that can be reductive, even as they're understandable. He dismisses all the rugby guys as "moronic", and implies that he and Isaac and Charlie are "better" because they're intelligent and academic and artistic. I mean... they are "better" than Harry, but because of their behaviour (most of the time...), not because of their brains. Tao struggles to respect people who are into different ways of living from him - especially Nick and his sport - because he used this sense of intellectual superiority as a defense against the shittiness of other guys. Just like his other insecurities, it's really understandable. And just like his other insecurities, even though he starts in a less than ideal place, he recognises the need to do better and then he does.

Tao Xu is a wonderful example of how teenagers can learn and grow, even as they make some pretty big mistakes. He doesn't see himself as lovable, but he really is, and he deserves his second chances. He always leans towards love. Yeah, he’s a bit pretentious and a bit of a snob and definitely interferes too much, but he's also a sweetheart, and given enough time, he'll give anyone a chance. He prioritises love - for friends, family, Elle - over everything else, and what more could you ask for in a friend?

December is really busy so I was able to finish this Drawtectives Season 3 Hype fanart only now. But maybe it's a sign for everyone who missed it to go and watch the first episode!

percy had an 'im a big three son' moment when he choked a goddess with her own saliva (controlling a fluid that was INSIDE her body) annabeth was terrified.

nico had an 'im a big three son' moment when he disembodied bryce lawrence (quite literally dissipating and shrinking his LIVING soul into a spirit) and threw him to the underworld, smashing his zombie warriors. reyna was terrified.

yet we were robbed of jason's 'im a big three son' moment where he sucks the air out of someone's lungs and makes them stop breathing, or damaging a person's nervous system with his lightning control, and literally cause internal bleeding, or a damaged/fried skull if he electrocuted hard enough (look up the effects of lightning damage on body y'all will get a whole list, tbh he doesn't even need lightning to do any of this, air control is more than enough since air takes charge of everything going inside the body, but this is just an added effect.) he could give people STROKES if he wanted to. he's the literal definition of burnt out kid who was suppressed from discovering the magnitude of his abilities, because one, his dad's ego wouldn't be able to handle it, two, because he, for some reason, can't be allowed to do anything other than get knocked out :/

also adding on, hardcore pjo fans know that after the ending page of boo, there's this fan story that rick chose to publish in the last few pages of the book where a fan reimagines the ending of hoo, in that work, annabeth collapses from an attack and percy sobs clutching her body. jason calmly asks him to step aside, and kneels before annabeth, jason regulates her breathing using his wind/lightning powers and brings annabeth back fully from her cardiac arrest, causing percy to be relieved. (I wanted to link the pics of the pages here so bad but I didn't have the hard copy of the book with me, and this isn't available anywhere online either, only in the original covers of boo uk and us version, so I edited this post and asked people to reblog this post w the pics if they have the hardcopy, and a kind blogger found the story I'm talking about and reblogged the pictures of the pages, you can check my reblogs of this post for the pictures of the almost all the pages after this scene) considering rick approved and even liked the fan's work well enough to publish it in the official boo book, I'd say rick was aware and never completely ruled out expanding jason's abilities and had them in mind, he simply didn't incorporate it into the books. (also W fan for giving jason the rep he deserves, I will always remember you, you saw the VISION before any of us did, the story was very well written, with great dialogue.)

Whatever the hell Bill and Ford have going on in the books is so funny to me because, like, we have Journal 3 where Ford spends some time one-sidedly pinning over that asshole and the Book of Bill has Bill one-sidedly moping over Ford AND IN ANY OTHER, NORMAL SITUATION that would make this weird clusterfuck of a relationship mutual but somehow it still always stays one sided, if you get what I mean

Thinking about DP x DC Jason Todd being a revenant again. Here's my scenario. Jason gets called that by some ghost. He's like "what the fuck is that supposed to mean?" He's heard the term before but he doesn't know any actual lore. He googles it. He scrolls past the Leonardo DiCaprio bear movie. He opens the wiki. Sees the words "animated corpse" and gets a chill diwn his spine. He starts reading the first section.
