i think i’ve said this before but its really funny how analogue horror became this huge new beginner-media-creation accessible horror trend because outta any fucking subgenre of horror it takes arguably some of the MOST trialsome artistic standards to get “right”. the amount of energy that goes into setting up an immersively “real”-feeling mixed media faux nonfiction broadcast type thingy dealy PROPERLY is like, wow no wonder the genre cliche is “psas over a monochrome background with the occasional still image of a face or diagram drawn by a child” lmfao

My dearest, tell me about your conlang scripts, please❣
Yeassss thank you beloved I will now kill for you <3 Ask me to kill for you.
I truly do not know how long this is going to end up but I'm just gonna go for it.
Montaran
Montaran is fauns' native language: it is alphasyllabic (rather than alphabetic), made up of character 'blocks' that are themselves composed of syllabic components. It's based off a mix of Korean and Sanskrit (mostly Brahmi script).
Tumblr media
⬆️ "This is an example sentence" written in Montaran. Pronounced "Bavna mōskadatōk nin."
Components are arranged in blocks of three max, with spaces between words. It's written and read top to bottom, left to right. In three-component characters (called full blocks or complete characters), the arrangement of the components tells you where the syllabic emphasis is.
Tumblr media
Here's the same sentence but with the components split up. The first word bavna has it's emphasis on the syllable na, and you can tell by reading because it's alone, as opposed to the other two components, which share space on the top of the block. The second word, Mōskadatōk, has its emphasis on the first and fourth syllables mō and da- the ones that are alone in their vertical placement. For partial blocks, like the last word nin, you can't tell emphasis by reading it.
Montaran is an abugida, which means its alphasyllabary is made up of consonant letters and small, diacritic-like additions that determine vowel sounds. Consonants can exist alone, but vowels must be connected to a consonant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where vowels are connected to a consonant can vary- usually there is a standardized method, but handwriting can alter it.
Montaran doesn't use any articles or particles, is written subject-verb-object (though the verb to be is considered an implied verb and therefore not actually written or spoken in sentences which would need it in other languages). Adjectives and adverbs are placed before what they alter.
Homonic
Homonic is humans' native language. It's alphabetic, made up mostly of vowels. The consonants are just 6 'base' ones, the sound of which changes with the inclusion of diacritics. It's based off of mostly English and Japanese.
Tumblr media
⬆️ "This is an example sentence" written in Homonic. Pronounced "Goa ja ikaruth zonosh hfow."
Likewise I had more explanation for those weird phonetics but once again I am going to joker out so what the fuck ever. The r is a tapped r though.
Tumblr media
Consonants base form is considered the default, while the diacritics change what sound it makes. The handakuten indicates a harder sound (P to B, F to V, L to tapped R), the tilde indicates a softer sound (hard G to Y, L to R, F to a sort of harder H that's not quite an english H), and the dakuten indicates a much softer, sometimes voiceless sound (P to W, F to H, T to Th). I should say now that I wrote out the phonetics of these in a way they make sense to me, so they might seem like nonsense to you. Because I don't understand international phonetic alphabet. But I digress. Vowels are never given diacritics.
Homonic uses both articles and particles, but particles are mostly used for action and subject indication. It's written subject-object-verb: Adjectives go after the noun they alter, but adverbs go before the verb. It's written left to right.
Paitarō
Paitarō is ipotanes' native language. It's an abugida, but unlike Montaran, consonants cannot exist alone. Instead, letters in their 'default' state are assigned the inherent vowel a, and all alterations from that indicate different vowel sounds. It's based mostly on Ge'ez and Eastern Cree.
Tumblr media
⬆️ "This is an example sentence" written in Paitarō . Pronounced "Roujih myudae ba raisakō louhayka".
Paitarō has a bunch of different versions of verbs depending on context. They have general vs current forms, constant vs transient, beginning vs ending, and some verbs have a gladly vs reluctantly form. I gave examples, but this is my third time trying to edit this and I can't be assed to write it all out again without becoming the joker.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rotation and diacritics determine the vowel sound of a letter. It's very consistent, so while it looks like there are 8 million letters, really there's just 12 that are altered slightly for different forms. A clockwise rotation 90 degrees will always result in the vowel ay, an macron will always result in the vowel i, etc.
It's written left to right, subject-verb-object, and uses no particles (but does use articles). It's also one of the harder languages to learn from an outside perspective, because many of the vowels (particularly o, oo, ou, and ō) sound similar to the untrained ear.
Arbor
Arbor is satyrs' native language. It's alphabetic, and has the largest alphabet of any language, with 42 letters (Paitarō beats it only if you consider all rotations and diacritics separate letters, which I don't). It's based mostly on Russian and Japanese.
Tumblr media
⬆️ "This is an example sentence" written in Arbor. Pronounced "Shleya bouk dzyañen aotal voh."
It's written right to left, verb-subject-object. It doesn't use articles, but does use particles, which make up far more of the grammatical structure than of any other language. Particles indicate time, possession, location, direction, vocatives, pragmatics, formality, connectives, and conjunctions. For example, in the above sentence, the particle voh indicates certainty- what is being said is fact- not up for debate.
Formality particles are something that is mostly unique to Arbor: Homonic uses some, but they are loanwords from Arbor, and not used near as often. The only circumstance in which a satyr would not use formality particles is when speaking to children (or if the speaker is a child). Because of this, for an adult to speak without these particles is perceived as immature or patronizing or both. There are generally four 'levels' of respectful particles: familiar (for friends and family), peers (for acquaintances and strangers), respect (for superiors or elders), and higher status (for governmental or religious leaders). There are also degrading particles that are only used explicitly as insults, but are naturally not used in everyday life.
Tumblr media
There are no true diacritics in Arbor, similar letters (like eh, ih, and uh, or v and fh) are considered distinct, not the same letter but altered).
Shotali
Shotali is nightlings' native language. It's syllabic, written calligraphically from top to bottom. It's made up of common humanoid phonemes as well as a clicking sound that is unique to their physiology. It's mostly based off of Khoisan and Vulcan.
⬆️ "This is an example sentence" written in Shotali. Pronounced "Sikosha taori niloth zhoi."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's the same sentence twice, one with the letters and other aspects of the sentence pointed out. The letters are designed to run into one another, where one letter ends another begins. Words are separated by a small open circle at the beginning and end to make clear the joint between the two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It uses only two diacritics: a handakuten and a macron. In natural Shotali, they are used sparingly, but their usage has since expanded to allow for other sounds to be transcribed into Shotali. The macron traditionally changes just a few letters from an i vowel sound to an e (ri->re, ni->ne, li->le), but now can also be found to alter any letter with an i to an e, even if it was not originally allowed. The handakuten, in natural Shotali, indicates a click, made as part of the syllable alongside the voiced pronunciation, and is not actually considered a diacritic in this form. It's present only on hard consonants (k, v, d). These consonants can be written/spoken without the click and therefore without the handakuten, but only in very specific words or it is incorrect. Some words only define meaning by the presence or absence of this click- this makes things tricky for any other species trying to learn/speak Shotali.
Now, though, the handakuten is also placed as a diacritic on some other letters- not to indicate a click, but to harden the sound (Th to T, P to B, Zh to Z, J to hard G). These characters are not included in the base alphabet as they are considered adopted characters, meant to transcribe sounds from other languages- Shotali has a lot of technically allowed ways to write/speak that arent included in the 'official' alphabet.
Only d, j and th (or t with a handakuten) can exist as a consonantal sound without a vowel, considered a whole syllable by themselves in Shotali. It's written verb-object-subject, and uses no articles or particles. Adverbs and adjectives go before the noun or verb they alter.
Bonus: Chimerae's sign-morse
The chimerae, which live in the depths of the ocean and thus do not interact with any other humanoid species, converse with a form of sign language that utilizes their bioluminescent abilities. It is untranscribable, and so doesn't have a proper name. It's made up of similar signs as that of shallower merfolk: large, slow movements of the hands and caudal fin, but is additionally altered by light. Light carries meaning in: where on the body it is located, how quick the flash is, and what physical sign it accompanies.
Chimeraes have two distinct dialects of this language: a distant and close dialect, both used in conjunction with each other depending on context. Because detail gets much harder to see at distance, and the deep sea is big, the type of sign-morse used when far away from your conversation partner is different than that which is used when you are right next to each other. The former is vaguer, but more obvious, while the latter is more intricate and specific.

the bar for "revolutionary" webhorror is so low. what happened
#god lord im so sick of itttttttt ToT#if you dont know analogue horror is on is deathbed and now ppl are onto ''digital horror''#which is the same thing except using digital mediums instead of analogue (like the internet instead of vhs)#and i do mean the same thing lol nothing has changed#not the conventions of storytelling not the limitations of the medium not the types of scares it presents#the only thing that has changed is the aesthetic. and that is unbelievably sad#if youre going to do a horror series based in the internet then why not.... actually use the medium of the internet for horror#theres so many scary things about the internet (esp early internet!!!!!) and yet no one is using that for their series#just the same old ''missing children's spirit communicating through tape oops i mean the website :)'' like cmon man.... :(#why not use things like viruses or the sudden connection to any and everyone through the internet or early hoaxes/creepy ads#lack of regulation on the early internet or the isolating/uncanny aesthetics of old hardware (kid me was so scared of computers lol)#or literally anything else that is DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE MEDIUM YOUR SERIES IS BASED ON#does anyone else on earth care about this or am i just picky??? hello???#i just want smth that leaves a genuine impact. i just want a series that feels like smth thats never been done before#i just want webhorror that knows what it wants to be and fits neatly into the confines of its medium#petscop felt like a real videogame. it felt like smth i could see in an ''obscure ps1 games youve never heard about!!'' video#it had a will they wont they about whether or not the game was actually talking to paul (through ghosts or other users etc)#but it was never in your face and it was left just vague enough that instead of breaking immersion it sucked you in even more#paul felt like a real person playing a real game and experiencing genuine fear and obsession alongside the audience#there was never a point where the screen started turning red and pauls voice became distorted and ''scary'' while creepy imagery popped up#bc petscop works entirely within the limitations of a man playing a videogame. no more no less#thats the kind of dedication to the medium that i want!!!!!!#i only critique webhorror so much bc its my favourite type of horror and i want it to improve

I just watched this video about a school closed for insane uranium exposure and the school district wants to sell it as-is to someone who will likely not clean it up because they were told 'oh, it has safe levels of uranium, people can be there and work'. This guy is the superintendent;
Tumblr media
Why do you need a Bible on your desk, sir?! You run a public school district where the Bible should be taught as just another book, not as a teaching manual! It's not Christian to sell poisoned land and structures to someone else so more people will get fucked up when you have a whole lot of children dealing with it already!

Got it!!

do you have any tips on writing karkat dialogue? im trying to get a better feel for it
honestly... i dont know how to do it
like. i do it but i dont know *how*. idont even know how i got here
uh... 2 me all the trolls ring true as analogues of weird people youd meet on a forum.
you gotta imagine the kinda guy that goes on a forum n like. says shit about how important and busy he is irl, and highkey constantly wants admin so hard he like, enforces the forums questionable rulez himself, over dumb shit. tries to impress users he finds cool and authoritative. and all the staff find him annoying.
then add a layer of "overly candid teenage boy who doesnt get out much and cries all da time irl, unabashedly loves his friendz but cant say it with his mouth&eyes directly". the hopeful romanticism is crucial. he loves love. hes pathetic maybe. hes a fuckin guy. great at painting nose-wrinkling mental images.
i think the most important part of writing karkat is knowing when 2 be brief and when to write 1k words of rant. karkat knows how to listen and he also knows how to chew ur ear out.
also knowing the right amount of cusses to sprinkle in. you gotta get creative with the vocab, have fun with it yknow. dont just have him say fuck and stuff. its just too easy
im genuinely sorry i cannot give more meaningful advice than that. i hope thats... anything

Lis please give me your lecture about sociosexual hierarchy i want to know what you know about bullshit incel stuff
YAYYY YIPPIEE YAYYY
Tumblr media
first of all, have a scheme i made myself a while back to put everything I've gotten from hashtag Authentic Incel Blogs and YouTube Channels into a more coherent format. Rather than putting them all into one pyramid, i think it's more accurate to present alpha/beta/omega vertical separately from the other designations. This vertical is the basis of sociosexual hierarchy (hence also the part of it most people have heard about it) and it follows a very clear "chain of command" so to speak. Long text under the cut
Alpha males stand at the top, representing the ideal standard of masculinity. Alphas fight between each other over whos the better hashtag Role Model and are very competitive in general. Betas are a rank below, following the standard set by Alphas/looking up to them. Omegas fail to follow the standards set by Alphas and therefore resent them while still believing in the standart/the idea of dominant toxic masculinity alphas represent. There's a LOT of bioessentialism in the incel movement, so Omegas sort of are in a weird position where they simultaneously yearn to reach that masculine standard but also live with the grim acceptance that nothing in their lives could be changed ever and they will stay outcasts <- majority of incels are Omegas in their self imposed hierarchy thats their whole thing.
Less of an established vertical and more of an analogue connection I've made myself is the Sigma/Gamma thing. Those two types of guys are united by the fact that they ignore the masculine standard/social norms as they are directed at men. Sigmas are often presented as like "lone wolf" guys, who don't care about fighting for dominance with Alphas or being the standard etc etc, but they are still at the top of the hierarchy due to being cool like that. Gammas ignore the masculine standard all the same, but due to not being cool like that fall to the level of social rejection similar to Omegas. Incels (who are again, mostly Omegas) consider most "nice guys", "simps" and "white knights" Gammas, hate them a lot too and claim that most people who identify as Sigmas are actually just Gammas who lack self awareness.
Deltas are literally just normies. Your average person. Deltas don't know anything about the sociosexual hierarchy beyond the funny memes mentioning alphas on Tiktok. Oh how I wish to be one of them...
Zeta and Lambda males are a bit of a special case. In my scheme I grouped them together because I really didn't feel like bothering with explaining the whole deal beyond "both of them exist somewhere on the outside" but essentially. Zeta males also reject the "social" norms and exist outside of the hierarchy, with strong leaning towards the Man Hoing Their Own Way movement. Lambda males who fucking knows what their deal is. I have seen people claim they have their own separate hierarchy and are somewhat related to the pickup artists type, but "lambda males" are also a troll type of guy people made up to make fun of the sociosexual hierarchy so finding any info thay is 1) from the inside; 2) not trolling; 3) not some recently even more made up "lambdas are creative and sensitive ones💫" because. incels Would Not Say That; is very hard. I included them just for the sake of it but it's a bit dubious tbh.
Now let's discuss telling apart some closely related types of guys.
Sigma, Alpha or Zeta? Alphas naturally follow the standard of masculinity and represent it, Sigmas naturally and instinctively reject it, Zetas actively and purposefully reject it.
Beta or Delta? If you know what a Delta is, you are not one.
Omega or Gamma? Omegas try and fail at performing masculinity "correctly", Gammas don't try and naturally reject it (akin to Sigmas).

j0ns@ isnt 100% to me but stans disbelieving in the ashford tourney interpretations now because it didnt fit what they wanted makes me lol now its invalid by having robert arryn when its not supposed to be a 100% recreation, harrold harryn is too much coincidence that it signals sans@'s suitors ,saying the final targaryen suitor died is coping because like Valarr Targaryen, jon also just died the difference is he'll get resurrected
my favourite excuse is "well nobody married lady ashford" well duh its a tourney,it might not even happen in a romantic light more for desperate political reasons the denial is hysterical
Hi anon,
I understand their need to constantly be “debunking” the theory because how dare Sansa have a parallel in another book and thereby be an important character in the series as a whole😤
I don’t think Robert Arryn is the chink in the armour they think he is. With all of Sansa’s previous suitors & Harry, there have been concrete plots to get her married to them. She was officially betrothed to Joffrey (the Baratheon suitor) before the Tyrells brought in Willas (the Tyrell suitor) and were actively planning to spirit her away to Highgarden right under the Lannisters’ noses, only for them to catch wind of the plan (if it can even be put that way) and forcefully get Sansa married to Tyrion (the Lannister suitor). As for Harry, Baelish’s northern plan comes into play which rests on the heels of Sansa getting married to Harry. Not to mention Hardyng is a pretty unknown House to just throw in, dontcha think?
Lysa brings up Sweetrobin in passing, with no plan or even an actual intention to marry them. This is literally never brought up again when Lysa is alive, or even after. The only one repeating any similar sentiment is Sweetrobin himself, who has a crush on Sansa but clearly doesn’t know what it means. So should we take Sweetrobin as a valid suitor? I mean, do crushes count? Because then why not include a whole legion of other Westerosi men who are interested in Sansa and make it a watertight argument. Baelish absolutely wants to marry Sansa, he even asked Cersei for Sansa’s hand in marriage, why isn’t he included? “Because…” yeah you’re there. My point is, the arguments against Baelish & SR are both strong but take a step back to what they have in common, Sansa’s story is leading somewhere else and thematically neither of them fit. One is less serious than the other & thats SR. Be fr with your SR arguments jesus.
Moreover, the Ashford theory and Sansa’s suitors don’t have to be perfect analogues of each other. Hell, we know nothing about Lady Ashford except that she’s 13 and involved in a tourney that was disrupted, and that Sansa is 13 and involved in a tourney that will be disrupted. Man, does this girl have to be named Pansa Ptark now for it to be a valid parallel? Why does George even bother naming his books, he should start calling them the war of the roses and be done with it. Why are we even reading political fiction, let’s just open today’s newspaper. Tf.
And I don’t think I can add anything to the Jon - Targaryen suitor theories that hasn’t been proposed + your points too. We consider R + L = J to be true, first and foremost. The “white guardian”, “dark hair” “the Targaryen suitor being dead” etc etc. In the same vein as the argument above, does he need to be named Jonnel/Jonos now to be taken seriously? Well, he is in another parallel but even that is “reaching” so what can I say? 🤷‍♀️ They’re not going to see what they don’t want to see, but, like you said, watching them jump through hoops and perform mental gymnastics and open a whole circus in the process is truly hilarious lol.
You do bring up an excellent argument, anon, that all of Sansa’s previous suitors have been for her claim to the North, so her marriage with Jon might also be for political reasons. However, the slight exception of Joffrey who was a King in his own right (lmao) exists; which again sort of foils Jon and his actual claim to the iron throne. So I feel that while a political marriage is totally on the cards (solves one too many problems for my liking 😤), Sansa might marry him out of love considering her theme of independence and not-marrying-for-claim. But who am I to say 🤷‍♂️
Lastly, nobody crowned Lady Ashford the queen of love and beauty so Sansa isn’t marrying anyone is sort of funny. Well, Loras gave Sansa a red rose amongst all the young maidens present there, are they a foreshadowed endgame pairing now? Also, how does one come up with Sansa is gonna end up as Lady of the Vale by marrying HH and Sansa is going to end up alone in the same breath?

the ext. zodiac is DEFINITELY bullshit (they literally try to relate trolls signs to sburb aspects which is so stupid its funny) but i think that it makes more sense to just go off-zodiac entirely since, in-comic kanaya equates trollsigns to names / signatures. and i dont really think it makes sense at all for an entire interplanetary empire to have only 144 available names
i think highbloods just place a LOT of value in genetic lines, and since signs are like lastnames to them they get really fascist about people who might be related to them
basically; ext zodiac is horseshit but thats why i think going off of it is fun
i don't really know what you're referring to other than the part where kanaya seems to assume rose's signature is her sign but the idea that trolls sign their names using their signs is not really a deal breaker to me.
i mean literally look at 'RL' as an example. there are only 325 possible combinations of 2 letters, which is not nearly enough combinations to possibly make 'RL' a useful signifier of one specific individual. because a signature is only one in a list of ways to authenticate a document. even in the real world putting your signature on a document is only really meaningful if someone else witnessed the signing of the document, because there are only so many ways to sign your name, and it's ultimately just a little drawing that anyone else on earth could easily copy if they really wanted to. or like, picture an aristocrat's signet ring, which could be even closer to what we are talking about here. it puts a picture on the document that is supposed to represent the authenticity of the aristocrat's contribution. but if you really wanted, you could copy the picture. and maybe once upon a time - working with a certain level of primitive technology - it would even have worked, but even there you're still ultimately going to have to fall back on the word of certain reliable witnesses, because the signet itself is just representative of something that is inherently more complex.
this is basically how the whole concept of a last name works too. if you want to be especially crafty, instead of just signing with your two initials you could sign with your whole last name, and on the town or city level that might work to distinguish you from all the other Johns or all the other Smiths. but as soon as you scale up to the level of an entire country, let alone an entire planet, it becomes totally useless, and you're always going to have to supplement your first+lastname with some additional information about yourself, like your date of birth. let's think to the most populous countries on earth, where surnames are more monocultural than we're likely to be familiar with in the world's english-speaking countries (and therefore are probably a closer analogue to uniquely-alternian cultural signifiers): something like 8% of people in China have the surname Yang! that's damn close to one in every 10 people you know having the same last name. the name Khan enjoys a similar level of popularity in Pakistan. to say nothing of all the Nguyens in Vietnam: it could be argued that in some respects a system whereby all members of the same caste have an equal 1 in 24 chance to have the same sign - and almost no chance at all to have the same first and last names! - is a hell of a lot more efficient than a lot of the family name systems we've got here on earth!
is 144 a bit on the small side when scaled up to an empire whose indeterminately large population spans almost to the edges of a galaxy? i'm willing to say yes. but even if you make it 244, or 544, or 1044 unique signs, there's going to be double ups, because it's never going to be enough for every living troll to get a sign all to themself. and hiveswap doesn't have to account for an entire galactic empire's worth of trolls, it only has to account for a couple hundred at a stretch! so it should use an alphabet of signs that suits a cast of a couple hundred. obviously for design purposes it makes complete sense that main or named characters all get their own unique signs - but if the rules dictate that sometimes trolls will share a sign, then the background trolls should reflect that reality! or else you're just breaking the rules of your own setting for the sake of upholding what is, in-universe, arbitrary fascist mythology, exactly like i said.
you also have to remember that, as i've already emphasised, the VASTTTT MAJORITYYYY of trolls in this galaxy-spanning empire are gonna be lowbloods, who don't buy into this mythology! so there isn't even a solid lore reason why lowbloods should have more signs to avoid double ups. and i think the comic already gives us a pretty clear image of the way lowbloods are cast aside by the grandiose conventions of alternian identity, in the fact that highbloods are remembered by such distinguished titles as "Spinneret Mindfang" and "Dualscar" and "Darkleer", and yet even the most significant scumbloods in alternian history are just "The Summoner" or "The Handmaid" or "The Sufferer". these names have significance to us, the readers, but in the context of thousands of years and thousands of lightyears of history there's no damn way there was only ever one "The Disciple" or one "The Signless". and while I do understand quite clearly that the concerns of the reader should always outweigh in-universe concerns when it comes to matters of design or writing, in this case i think it would actually be MORE effective storytelling to treat signs the same way. while it would seem significant to US if another troll, unrelated to tavros or rufioh, appeared wearing a Taurus, it would also serve to communicate that all of the sign shit the readers have been buying into this whole time was nonsense, and i think in this case that's the more important message

@eremorte for some reason i could not post my answer to this ask???? but i love it and have thoughts so we're answering this analogue version!!!! MY ANSWERS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
WHATS CHASE DOIN!!!!! showing him anywhere, doing anything, letting my poor boy come 2 eah and be at peace with friends.. it makes sense for him to transfer!! or the webisode could be him running away from his bint mother n being discovered in ever after by the wonderlandians after maddie heard he crossed thru the portal or something :( i want him to wear normal clothes and hav a nice cup of tea
^^ i suppose thats already quite self indulgent but i could go 4 another one!!!!! i always loved maddie's diary entry where she chases the sound of giles' knock all around the school by herself and wouldnt that be a fun thing to make into a little webisode!!!! a flashback to the days of summer, empty school, eerie atmosphere, maddie-focused episode…. they'd never make it. thats why it would be so good"!!!!!!
i kno this is grand expectations for . an eah webisode. but i would have liked to see the ramifications of thronecoming.... like its fair enough that the student population puts their frets aside 4 the Big Dance because why wouldnt you!!!!! god knows ur not having fun any other time!! but afterwards the storybook is still missing and as far as anyone's concerned, could b anywhere!! scary stuff. i wanted to see briar sweat a little bit. they RLLY sidelined her after her single act of agency in thronecoming and i needed to see that mounting tension!!!!!! maybe a scene with her and apple, the growing schism between them.. her and ashlynn, ashlynn suspecting but saying nothing, their new rebellious camaraderie....we could hav had it all
AFTERMATH!!!!!!! LIKE WHA?????? the storybook has just been destroyed!!! isn't this like the pillar of your society or whatever???? why is nobody flipping out and hoarding cans of kelpie steaks in their fortified basement?? you could even make it funny [?] by having some people take on full doomsday prepper mode after finding out the storybook has been destroyed instead of jus . moving decently and calmly with their lives, deflating all and any influence and tension the storybook plot held. JUST A THOUGHT 👍
HM......... something with duchess and sparrow i think! they really shine as antagonists but i feel like true hearts day wasnt as far as they could spread their wings <- bird pun. maybe the special could b focused on figuring out wht the fuck exactly was up with duchess' white/black swan dissonance!!!! why did she turn into a black swan when she transformed 🤷‍♀️ what is up with that. what is up with duchess. mattel please answer my voicemails!!!!!! sparrow could help out nd be comic relief and also we could see them be friends because i love them. THERE'S NO LOSING
THIS WAS ALL DEEPLY DISJOINTED BUT SO MUCH FUN TO THINK ABOUT 💜 I LOVE AIRING GRIEVANCES

you are my favorite artist!! i really admire your coloring style, and how soft the lighting makes it feel despite being on-model. you have any tips? on the topic of lighting, i also ADORE your shading!! :3
You have no idea how happy this made me (ノω・、)
You are such a sweet heart
(≧◡≦) ♡
I tried my best explaining and understanding the question!
(My english isn’t the best)
A heads up: i explained more than i needed to!
First i wanted to show how i color
There are 4 simple steps
Base
Shadows
Light
Details
Tumblr media
Before i color i decide where the light is coming from, so I’d know what im doing with light and shadows
-
Now with the actual shading and lighting
It’s actually just 2 easy steps, for me atleast
I’d say my shading&lighting is kinda lazy..
Tumblr media
I know it hard to see it, so how about we actually use it on a model or two
Examples:
Tumblr media
I used blue and yellow as an example to show what it looks like with warm and cool colors :p
You can see how it changes when you add shading and lighting (tho you cant see the light that much…)
For blue i gave him for shading analogues colors that means the colors are neighbors on the color wheel, the same with yellow.
Its good to know a bit of color theory! It can help! (Im also learning)
-
Next lighting&shading refrences
How they look when the light source moves
Tumblr media
(Ignore the laziness…)
Its good to have a real reference to help you
You can see how it can changes green depending where the light source is coming from, it can change a mood.
And thats it!
This is how i shade and do lighting! (Plus color)
Tumblr media
Thank you for reading me ramble about colors ( ˙▿˙ )

Rogue thoughts and reactions--->
not taking many notes this time cause i wanted to Savour this one tbh and what a blast so far
rogue and doctor so far is like. rtd striking gold potentially here (i kno he didnt write this one i mean more like. in the long run. i could see fans going crazy over this Type of ship and spending sweet $$$$ on it lol).
ruby looking at this "scene" like it's a tv show………. live…….. honey u best believe in ghost stories hyper post-modern genre tv show seasons cause u are in one
cushy… wordsmiths-ing count…
"ruby: you know how i forget about a man?" with a woman? (shot)
the parallel of these guys "dishonoring" these ppl while the doc and ruby do kind of the same all the time sdkflj
mmm second time i see a triangle logo (it was there last ep on the door to the MEP area that lindsey and rickey ran into. camera held on suspiciously long on it…) (triangles…. three…. susan TRIAD???)
doctor this says you're single and available. oh another word. "very" available.
COME ON ACE WE HAVE WORK TO DO
"wow" boner dialogue
mention of gallifrey.... "i might take you one day" oh man. oh man………..
"random barren dimension" yes this is not an equivalent to a silent confinement analogue at all don't think about it too hard guys
"i lost everyone"
they're leaning on……………. oh yaz just broke a coffee mug somewhere
maybe the real enemy was fandom all along
THOSE TV SIGNALS BEAM OUT ACROSS THE STARS. TV SIGNALS. TV SIGNALS. TV ISNGALS TV
SIGNASLKDJASLKDJASKLJ1!!SKLFDJDSLKJFSDLK JF SHUT UPTJSDLFKSDJ (i die)
ok im enjoying The Concept a lot, as expected…….. but gotta say rogue does feel a bit two dimensional so far :/ (maybe even a bit cliche?) i feel jack in his first ep had more depth at first for example (bounty hunter but also lost his memory. doing amoral things but being swayed by the doctor at the end. etc). but there's time THERE'S TIME. DONT LE TME DOWN EPISODE PLEA SE. there's always a twist-
you people and your bridgetons. in my time this would all be a big ass downtown abbey reference
sad thing is this is def one episode i wont be able to watch with my homophobic parents at all oof lmao
this dialogue.... kinda thoschei acadamy years coded ngl
"tell me what your heart wants or i shall turn my back on your forever" defining 15 character dialogue……….
(commitment phobe doctor moment. my girl hastn changed at ALL) (btw intrigued by rogue's "i lost them" bc it could mean a lot right. it's the most delibarely ambiguous of pronouns dklfjsd like it could be a nonbinary character but could also be a couple characters? or maybe im reading it wrong sdlkjf)
play our games on a magnificent scale…………… games motif……….
"i thought i was interesting- but you??" exactly!!! doctor who>>>>>>>> bridgerton/all other tv shows. case made.
god i feel so stupid. i dint catch that twist at all TOT
wedding season finale. chuldur's know where it's at.
oh finally there's the scene from the trailers!!!!!!!!!
"how long do they live for?" oh he's gonna says A Thing "thats a long time to suffer" I WASN'T WRONG /GOES FERAL ( i knew the family of blood coding was leading somewhere…)
the doctor beatiing these cosplayers with his "i object" tv tropyness……….. the meta of it……… theory gang we're gonna make it yet i swear
ok yes this is sad poor ruby but like. but literally last month 14 killed/sacrificed donna w/o sm hesitation so sdklfjdsklfjsdklfj (yes im still like. HEY THAT WAS A SIGNIFICANT THING THAT HAPPENED. WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT IT.)
oh is rogue a chuldur as well? he feels too invested in the trolley problem of it all sdlkfj
im gonna say it.... i thought that resolution was kinda........ as the kids say..... weak sauce sfkdj
like oh nooo he got teleported oh noooo. like he's gonna be fine slkdfjsd didn't really hit that hard :/ should have had a proper death sacrifice thing.
"im sorry....." "....AAAANYWAY , it is what it is!!!! " my man is so broken holy shit. holy shit.
it's ok to be sad. !!!!! TOT
CONCLUSIONS!!
sdlkjf ya'll i really wanted this to harder but idk i didnt feel the depth or sensibility this called for was there tbh. but it was a blast!!! but … it missed a bit of that x factor thing. like some kind of universality to the romance w/ the rogue. i feel he was too sketched-in.... i was also a bit disappointed that ruby's friend was not her friend bc it meant her whole thing this ep of connecting to that woman was for nothing (and up until that point it was feeling very Important specially after the marti thing) (and speaking of, the chuldur's were kinda very sketched-in / surface-level as villains as well) … yeah. idk. kinda disappointing ngl (diodati > this i think). pretty fucking gay tho so that was nice.

name :: amos, altair, layne, sav/saf (safia), bree
age :: 13 to 17
pronouns :: she/her, it/its, zhe/zher, xi/xir, di/der (dirtself), si/sin (sinself)

orientation :: cuiporomantic, autosexual
source :: brainmade, songtive (no one’s here to sleep)
aesthetic :: analogue horror, zombie apocalypse, darkcore
appearance description :: “amos is gross” : that’s what everybody says when they look at her. it cakes its hands in mud, lets its hair get greasy, re-wears the same clothes over and over again. zhe knows it’s unhealthy - but zhe can’t stop zhirself. letting xir guard down for even a second could get xem and xeir headmates hurt. di opts for darker, less noticeable clothes that dey can move around in; the more di can move, the less likely dey are to get trapped. si keeps sir hair long (no time to cut it), sometimes snapping it into a ponytail. when si does change clothes, si always keeps one thing on: a black jacket covered in patches si made with sir former friends.
personality description :: amos is most well known for her hostility towards people zhe doesn’t know. new people are seen as possible infected: kept at an arm’s distance, keeping communication to a minimum lest they be potentially hostile. zhe is quiet most of the time, often thinking about how zhey would deal with the worst outcome should it come to pass. (this often involves fighting.) even after befriending zher, zhey don’t get much nicer: zhey always have a backup plan in place in case the other person betrays zheir trust.
likes :: fighting hostile entities, keeping the way clear, survival skills, survival YouTube channels, pocket knives, portable gear, zombie movies where the humans win, first person shooters, PvZ, barbed wire bats, punching people in the face
dislikes :: sleeping, shadows, long creeping hallways that twist and turn, unsettling environments, things that upset the “norm”, zhemself (especially in terms of being a good person), other people, zombies seen as “good”, being called cute or adorable

kins :: ellie from the last of us ; ace of clubs from the batman universe
typing quirk? :: prefers shorter sentences. proper punctuation. opts for simpler words to get the message across. does not capitalize zhir sentences.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
name :: tj, frances, miles, wendall, rhodes
age :: 20, on the cusp on 21
pronouns :: he/him, hu/hum, per/pers, roe/roeself
roles :: absorber, optimist, caesian, energetic alter
species :: human through and through!
gender identity :: your typical male. he doesn’t really like labels, as he finds them more confining than they are helpful.
orientation :: bisexual with a preference for men
source :: brainmade, songtive (part of the band)
aesthetic :: wanderlust, americana (specifically wide open plains), campcore
appearance description :: tj is simply incapable of dressing normally. he is that one guy who wears shorts during the winter and long pants during the summer. hum reasoning? “hey, you never know, maybe we’ll end up in Florida today!” per likes to mix and match, but he does have some semblance of consistency: everything he wears is easy to move in and won’t end up with bloody knees if he does some parkour tricks. while he does wear some jewelry for funnies, he almost never takes those camping with him unless they’re designed for extreme conditions. breaking his accessories would be heartbreaking.
personality description :: the most out-there guy you’ll ever know. tj does things that make him happy whenever he feels the inkling to. this can be climbing on top of things, scaling walls, jumping up a tree, driving five hours to see a friend — he cannot and will not be stopped. unlike amos, tj sees the best in people and situations no matter what happens. he sees the silver linings in the grey skies: sure, the game got rained out, but hey… that’s perfect sleepover weather!
likes :: taking things as they come, road trips, long car rides, sporadic adventures, being active, camping, sitting around the fire, walks through nature, natural wildlife, having a good time, fucking around and finding out
dislikes :: people who can’t chill, hyper-specific organization, charters, control freaks, plane rides (can’t see the world go by), over-urbanization, pollution, hostile architecture, people being addicted to social media (he doesn’t get it — why fixate on a small screen when you can see the real deal?)
front triggers :: car rides, sightseeing, camping, being with friends, trips, natural beauty, worldly wonders
signoff :: 👣, 🪵, 🗺️
mood board :: tj
songs for you :: could have been me by the struts, the great escape by woodkid, where is your rider by the oh hellos, someone to die for by hurts, torches by x ambassadors, FUNGUS by the narcissist cookbook
kins :: bennett from genshin impact, indiana jones (allegedly)
typing quirk? :: rambles a heck of a lot, chronically allergic to punctuation, never swears and rather substitutes them for sayings (dangnabbit = damn, flipping flapjacks = flying fuck)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
name :: max/maxie, jessie, waylon, cora, wilder
age :: 17 to 19
pronouns :: he/they (alternating), he/him, they/them, thon/thons, co/cos
roles :: apparently normal part, pseudo host, sensory soother
species :: human (asomatic)
gender identity :: cassgender, dazegender, coyotething
orientation :: gay, reciprosexual
source :: brainmade, songtive (NOT ENTIRELY ALONE)
aesthetic :: amateur photography, prairie, rustic
appearance description :: despite spending so much time in the sun and desert, Maxie is soft by nature. their clothes are kept clean and tidy, their hair is a reasonable level of messy, and they take good care of their skin. Maxie opts for large baggy clothing in neutrals and dark colors due to the fact they’re often outside.
personality description :: calm and comfortable, maxie doesn’t lean too hard one way or the other unlike his system mates. they are a watcher of all the things they can see, trying not to take things for granted. thon would love to share thons appreciation for the world with others — but with everything around them feeling like it’s falling apart, it’s harder and harder for thon to get people to listen. cos is horrible with conflict; whenever cos is faced with a problem, they switch out to let either tj or amos say their piece and (hopefully) smooth things over without starting a fight.
likes :: watching the sky, birds flying overhead, talking to people, rustic furniture, country music, playing the guitar, pottery, horses, coyotes and wild dogs, what has yet to come
dislikes :: things outside of his control, natural disasters, darkness, animal abuse, rapid urbanization, people forgetting his name (really, it’s so simple!), being talked over, people who don’t listen, conflict, picking sides
front triggers :: country aesthetics, wide open spaces, horses & horse riding, taking pictures, peace and quiet, howls in the night
signoff :: 🌵/📷
mood board :: maxie
songs for you :: fire by barns courtney, ghost on the shore by lord huron, foreigner’s god by hozier, the mute by radical face, swan upon leda by hozier, o susanna by the smoky mountain band
kins :: none to speak of, but he likes dolly parton a good bit. (and mater from cars, but he won’t admit to that one.)
typing quirk? :: doesn’t quite… finish their sentences. frequent use of ellipses… oh… lots of interjections… always seems a bit distracted.

AAAAAAA ur reading house of leaves??? im buying that next week thats so cool! do u have any book recs? or recs in general shows movies etc
I AM!! I'm several chapters in and super enjoying it, although reading it alone in a tiny hotel room in the middle of nowhere was a Distinct Mistake.
As for recs! I'm going to specifically go for stuff that isn't super mainstream, in the hopes that I'll recommend you something you have never heard of before. Here's some stuff for you!
Podcasts
Dreamboy - one-season podcast from Night Vale Presents, definitely one of their less-known ones. Explicit in places, what I would describe as AO3 M-rated sex scenes. A worn-out musician ends up embroiled in inexplicable events in a small town, and also there's a murderous zebra and fossils that want to fuck. It's a musical cinematic podcast masterpiece, I'll always be sad there's only one season.
Apocrypals - nonfiction. Two non-believers read through the Bible and try not to be jerks about it. If you're interested in theology and apocryphal texts but have no idea where to start, this is such a good place. The hosts are delightful, and have a really nice way of taking you through all the various layers of Biblical scholarly nonsense. Considerable backlog of episodes, but worth listening through from the beginning. Weirdly, there's continuity.
Til Death Do Us Blart - five poor fools watch Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 every Thanksgiving from now until the end of eternity, and report back yearly on their mental state. You may think to yourself 'wow, that doesn't sound like a good time'. It isn't, to the hosts. To anyone listening along, it's fucking hilarious. Nine episodes so far, and it's a single episode per year, so plenty of time to catch up.
Web Series
The Monument Mythos - Several seasons. surreal analogue horror alternate history of America told through a series of videos of varying format. Brilliantly absurd, fucked up, and horrifying by turns (sometimes all at once).
No Evil - ongoing animated series, made mostly by a single person. Please don't immediately wave it off because of the colorful anthropormorphic animals. The mythology is amazing, the animation is sublime, and the music is haunting. The pacing is a bit strange at first, and you may be confused at the way the plot moves, but you have to understand that it's all part of its charm. I think about No Evil way too much.
Dances Moving - you may know Brian David Gilbert from his work at Polygon, and his more recent absurdist Youtube ventures. This is from way before that! It's a fun and gradually heartwrenching musical exploration of a local dance group and what it means to move away from home. Seven short episodes.
ENA - this one is a bit more mainstream, so you may know it already. Who knows what's going on in the world of ENA? Definitely not me. Absurdism at its finest. Bizarre architecture, strange characters, if it's a metaphor I don't know what it's about, but the vibes are immaculate. Three actual episodes of varying length, apparently there's a video game set to come out soon-ish?
An Unauthorized Fan Treatise - serialized story. If you're a fan of internet drama a la Msscribe, you're going to adore it. It's a fiction story about a fictional fandom, and one massively messed up person who decides that two of the lead actors in her favorite show are secretly dating and sets out to prove it with a cited multi-chapter essay. And then it gets wild.
Comics
The Property of Hate - a wonderfully dynamic and colorful webcomic about a young girl getting chosen to become a make-believe world's Hero. Puns and wordplay galore. Absolutely delightful characters and worldbuilding. Ongoing.
Eat the Rich - a young woman goes to meet her boyfriend's extremely rich family, and learns their horrifying secret. Warning: cannibalism. 5 issues, complete.
Beanworld - impossible to describe, but I'll try. An absurdist semiabstract musing on the nature of life and cycles and community, set in a world where the rules are weirdly two-dimensional and you as a reader get weirdly invested in the routines and cycles that the inhabitants follow. And all of the main characters are cute lil bean guys. If you read anything on this list, do this one. (Linked is the only online version I could find, and it's not up-to-date. I own all the omnibuses in print. If you liked what you read here, I recommend tracking them down too.)
Short Stories (in no particular order, and certainly not all my favorites - just the ones I had bookmarked and on hand)
Bride, Knife, Flaming Horse - a young Indian woman looks for marriage in the fantastical, and finds several suitors
Fish (in 13 sections) - an obsessive unpacks a bewildering insult. Just, really fun.
Fandom For Robots - a robot discovers anime, and definitely doesn't have big feelings about it
Informed Consent Logs From The Soul-Swap Clinic - two people decide to swap bodies, for somewhat murky reasons.
The Magician's Apprentice - a young girl learns magic from her mentor. This one's about grooming. But not like that. But also a lot like that. But also it's so much more fucked up than that. (This one is a MEGA favorite, it's by Tamsyn Muir. Who you may recognize as the author of the Locked Tomb series - I'd rec that too here, if it wasn't definitely too mainstream for what I'm going for. Read this. And also read the Locked Tomb.)
The Tale of the Foolish King Who Banished Music - it's a snippet of a longer Doctor Who audio drama, but stands so nicely on its own. Unnerving little fairy tale.
The Spider - 1908 horror story about a man trying to figure out why so many men have spontaneously committed suicide in a specific hotel room. It's basically a TMA statement, in more ways than one.
Video Games
What Did Veronica Dream Of? - strange little rpgmaker puzzle game. Obtuse and weird, and I adore it. I wish I could explain why.
Secret Little Haven - point-and-click about being a trans girl on the internet in 1999. Completely nails the tone it's going for. Period-typical homo- and transphobia.
Linelith - a short (1-hour) puzzle game with no plot and no characters, and yet it contains one of the greatest plot-twists of all time. I'm begging you to play it immediately.
Lingo - puzzle game about linguistics, words, non-Euclidean goemetry, and figuring out an endless series of rules in a constantly expanding world. RIDICULOUSLY clever and good, and I've been playing it almost continuously for the last few months. It's got so much content for such a reasonable price, and the community-made maps add even more content (and are also excellent). If English isn't your first language, you may struggle, but otherwise - grab a bunch of friends and stream it. It's better with friends helping you out, I can guarantee it.
For A Change - a 1999 interactive fiction game about raising the sun in a world where words do not mean what you think they mean. If you're familiar with old text-based games, go ahead and play it - otherwise, you may want to read this transcript of a group of people playing it together instead.
Other Things
Carmilla - the classic 1800s lesbian vampire novella. I read it very recently, and it's extremely good. Absolutely delivers on the lesbian vampire premise in full gory detail, although do be aware that it was written in the context of homophobic fear.
Alberio - very fun light musical about two siren brothers reconnecting under less-than-ideal circumstances.
Mosquitoes - stage play about life and families and physics (theoretical and practical both). Very heavy topics, pulls no punches. The Boson's final monologue always wrecks me.
Ghost Quartet - musical/song cycle/experience about love, death, alcohol, and (of course) ghosts. Lots of cyclical stories and time travel weirdness. All of the songs are incredible.
Yankee and the Foreigners - music group that performs delightful upbeat covers of songs in animal onesies. Their Bare Necessities cover is a favorite of mine.
I'm sure there's lots more things I could rec (not a lot of books or movies here, huh? sorry about that. I immediately forgot everything I've ever read and watched) but these were the things that came to mind when I sat down and wrote this list, so hopefully there's something new and good for you in here!

Ranting and Hating
Listening to SlyFlourish talk about the Muskrat thing and like, nothing against what he said in his vid more about the idgits in his comments bringing up Lovecraft. But the thing that specifically gets my goat about the tri-monthly discourse about "the assholes who inspired/made our hobby" is that the whole "nuance/people are complicated" answer more and more feels like such a thought-terminating phrase in these spaces. Because a lot of (white) fans verbally separate themselves from the chuds and shrug shoulders about Lovecraft or whoever, but then will run off with the same tainted toys and get mad when you don't want to play with them. But like??? You have to actually do the work of understanding that the Gygaxs, and the Ron E Howards, and the Lovecrafts of the world offenders on the same level as "yeah he called his secretary toots but..." Like that shit was ideological and it is bone-deep. You can't separate art from the artist if you can't even identify the fucking signature you know?
Idk its just been a particularly crazy making week sitting in the OSR space specifically between this and the Questing Beast thing because i do think there's a specific "ttrpgs are inherently leftist" meme brainrot running through every conversation I see when the chuds kick up shit. Like some of the same people making fun of Musk or pontificating as to why Chuds seem to flock to the space in the first place "when they obviously aren't welcome" will also be the same people to run up books with fantasy worlds where there's like, 5 different vaguely European analogue cultures, maybe a barely-elaborated on vaguely arabic/persian or turco-mongol one if you want to be diverse, and the rest of the world either "Here there be Savages" if its human only, or with Orcs/Goblins/Lizards filling out the map. And all the people live in their own ethnostate complexes and have broadly applicable personality types with very little cultural variations or transfer and who view all their neighbors with a "natural" hostility.
And enough of those people will nod their heads sagely and argue that worlds like that are when fantasy was better/more realistic/interesting. Like "oh everything is so frictionless now. Things aren't as fun if we have to let orcs be people the Lore™ is so without conflict." Never occurring to them that conflicts can exist for things other than "white man dont like green man kill kill" or whatever. Or that maybe someone like me, a bitch whose Ron E Howard analogue is "unga bunga cannibals trying to eat the white women" would understandably not feel comfortable engaging with your fan favorite sword-and-sorcery product if thats the shit you're pulling from and you don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that. A "the guy who inspired this was racist" tag up front does jack and shit for me if you dont also take out the racism!!!! Yonow??? And some of them will act like it's the biggest sacrifice in the world to not have racial ability scores or tables for gnome-slurs or whatever. And im sorry if you can't engage with your game without that shit but then you can't scratch your head when chuds continue to pop up in your community.

"Disengage the fandom and curate your interaction!" - It's not that simple.
One thing I've told about my woes about fandom is "disengage from the fandom" and not to "hyperbolize" or not "open floodgates", and be "rational" and just accept not being "serious storytelling" or else it comes of as "fragility" or I guess would be "breaking from fragility"and being "defensive" and "not touching grass"
And I know this comes from a good place and I know these people mean well...
The problem is that advice doesn't work when it comes to certain fandoms who use these labels and also hyperbolize and "floodgate", the escalation of interaction, and the "consequences" of that. At least in my past experience
The problem is when you try to "disengage with the fandom" requires you to drop social media entirely. And when it comes to pop culture and creativity and start with projects, most of that stuff now requires social media and the internet.
If you "disengage" your often just left with people you know at work who might have no idea what you're talking about and can't help you in any way.
Michael of RetroBlasting of YouTube his Unplugged Video about " 'Ignoring it' and doing nothing"
It isn't the analogue world anymore, you don't just leave a comic book shop full of jackasses and go to another one and continue your business. And toxic fandoms know this too.
In fact this video explains this kind of stuff best
And what toxic fandoms do, is they set you up into a conundrum.
In the game of The Toxic Fandom, if whatever your doing that takes elements of what you liked of safe franchise, especially out of disagreement and disappointment gets big enough, they invade your space and harass you and often resort to their own brand hyperbolizing and "floodgating" first and assume the worst reasons of what makes you happy and what you want.
If you stay composed and rational and use milder words like "disheartened" and "bummed out", accept your ideas being labeled as "not seriously storytelling", and "disengage" from where if your you put stuff out and find another platform.
They see you as a wimp and keep pushing you back because "oh he's just disheartened guys, he'll get over it, so we can keep pushing him around. What's he gonna do? Be Mildly annoyed? LOL!"
and use the fact stayed "this label" instead of changing to "that label" to screw you over because "we need to make room for real storytelling, thats the consequences sorry!" for whatever reason
And if you do anything aggressive or assertive back;
which might involve hyperbolizing and flooding gates, or at the very least get more aggressive with your tone
If you defend yourself from labels and explain why you wanted what you wanted and why it makes you happy, which is not necessarily being 'defensive'
If you do anything that isn't passive...
You "Broke" from "fragility" your being "defensive", your "not being the bigger person" and "not accepting reality"
and you need to "touch grass"
Tumblr media
So the fandoms won't let you win
So in this context, you keep being passive and keep on "disengaging" and keep accepting these labels, the fandom will become more bold and invasive and even actively sabotage you by slandering you such as LilithFairen, KnightOfBalance, or Canonseeker does with AUs and ReWrites of RWBY and they might even falsely report too.
So instead of things getting hypothetically better in the long run, the damage gets exponentially worse
Now of course the argument can be made "well there's always gonna be haters no matter what." Of course there will be, so you might as well fight back to stop the unnecessary bleeding.
Now of course there's cases where it is the case where the person is overreacting and need to step back, but the problem is in my experience there's outsiders who don't bother to take the time time and figure out what's going on before making their judgement call because they think they can just assess the situation by just looking at it and make an assumption because they know so much.
Because the think they’re doing this
Tumblr media
when in reality their doing this is getting in the way
Another example I can think off is the success of Kamen America which is an active disagreement with what was done with the idea of Captain Marvel, combined with other elements of course so its not a blatant rip off.
Tumblr media
Once it got big enough, Captain Marvel fanatics began shrieking its nothing but a "Porn Captain Marvel Rip-Off" and try to reputation assassinate it, which ComicsGate tried to jump in because the "leader" has a personal beef with the creators
And these are the same people who cheer on evil superman clones like Omni-Man and Homelander or cheer on "His Dark Materials Trilogy" which was made by an author who had a big beef with The Chronicles of Narnia and CS Lewis
Because supervision/inversion is awesome when it subverts/inverts things they don't like I guess
Tumblr media
So once again, the fans like myself had to step in and say something and fight back so those out of the loop knew what was actually going on.
Once Fandoms become invasive and are policing social media and creativity to a certain magnitude and try to throw what makes us happy to the dogs when the opportunity hits, being passive and rational might not be an option.
Sometimes it is. But sometimes it's not.
