Reaping Hook, Chapter Twelve: Out of the Rain
“What have you been up to, Sooga?”
“...It’s a long story. One that we don’t have time for.”
“So give me the short story.”
A Sheikah teenager with uncontrolled powers, eerily resembling Sooga’s, poisoned by a mysterious illness. The “illness” in question are hands, by the way. And the teen is no ordinary Sheikah, but the chosen one of the village to protect the king and princess. Only the Yiga’s most hated enemy. No biggie, Elyse.
Summary: Sooga comes clean about all that he’s been up to lately. Plans are made, everyone is on board more or less. All seems a little too good, but Sooga’s worries finally break the light.
Word Count: ~2.8k
---
Esteemed Provost Fallow,
His Majesty, I heard, will be the first one to breach the Sheikah protocols, since the age of King Drake, some 10 thousand years prior. I cannot tell His Majesty what's best, (perhaps you may be better in his court) but I believe that some things are best left forgotten. What kind of horrors lie beneath that caked earth, awaiting to be breached like a dead whale on shore.
And when that near day arrives, I fear we will see another resurgence of that shadow of Hyrule. The Yiga Clan. Be prepared, and watch your back, as well as the backs of your kin. When one falls, we all do.
Sooga peeled the letter away, gritting his teeth at the sound of crinkling, dried paper sticking to another. His mind filled in the blanks with the context he had to mull on;
Everyone in the Clan was there when King Rhoam was crowned. They were there when Queen Zelda Persephe died. Mysterious circumstances, they said, and left it at that. Contrary to belief, the Yiga Clan had nothing to do with Persephe's death. Not that time, at least.
Back to Rhoam...He had made a name for himself like many of the royals before; The prohibition of Sheikah technology remained divine law. But his daughter, Zelda Ivy, was more inclined to that ancient history. Sooga had even heard they were instating a new research facility for Sheikah technology.
"Hmph," Sooga clicked his tongue at his own thoughts--He wondered who the credit for unearthing the buried tech truly went towards; Was the cranky old man having second thoughts, or was his daughter too stubborn to let sleeping dogs lie?
Sooga uncovered another letter, and carefully unfolded it, kicking himself for his messiness in retrieving the letters. He should have killed Rowley a little more to the left.
Lord Rowley,
I share many of your fears and worries about His Majesty’s decision. Though it’s said that the Sheikah are supposed to protect the kingdom---divine duty, as ours is the upkeep of our divided sanctions. Yet I cannot keep my eyes away--our past king to keep us safe from Calamity. That foul clan is-----if something is to fall, they are surely the reason. I don’t trust the Sheikah….
The letters were faded and ink smeared too much to read.
Sooga poured through the pages again before reluctantly gathering them up into a pile of crinkly paper. As much as he hated the idea of bothering Master Kohga, someone had to make sense of it all. The date of the letters indicated they were received by the late nobleman Rowley two weeks ago. The night that Sooga completed his mission.
The Yiga would be safe for the next week, it seemed. But time was flimsy and fickle, Sooga knew. What they think is comfort in the night could be the shadow of a trap.
Rubbing a hand over his face, Sooga pushed back from his desk and reached for his swords to tie back to his waist.
He'd have to fill the rest of the mentors in on his findings. Again. But this time, he realized with a quiet groan, he’d have to talk to Tulsi, the footsoldier mentor. Tulsi always creeped him out.
“Sooga? Sooga!”
Elyse stepped into their shared room, and with a sudden fury, she threw back the curtain-door and marched in. “Where have you been?!”
It had only been a few hours, right? A day or two, yeah? Sooga’s silence as he tried to think back to the last time he had left the Hideout only made Elyse shake her head in disbelief.
“Are you shitting me? No one has seen you for…For at least three days! You got your new sword and dipped, you dipshit! You have forgotten all of your responsibilities, and you are about to answer to Master Kohga if you do not show up for at least one of them today.”
Sooga blinked. “Apologies, Elyse. I have been…It is a long story. And I…” He trailed off. He had no idea what he was supposed to be doing, and Elyse took in an explosive breath.
“You’re supposed to be teaching a class, idiot! Myself, Lareina, Adriel, Tulsi…” She counted everyone on her fingers. “And Adriel’s been covering your spot for every day you’ve been absent. Three. Days. How much longer do you think we can explain this?”
“Apologies, Elyse.” Sooga said again, wearily. “However, I did not forget that I started something within Hyrule Castle, and I intend to finish it. It involves the entire Clan. That’s where I have been this week.”
Elyse, hands on her hips, her shoulders slowly lowered. She tilted her head, her annoyance and irritation burning out. “At least you weren’t slacking.” She sighed. “I’m…sorry for yelling. Have you made any progress on it?”
Sooga gestured to the letters, his mind running to other thoughts. “In an unorthodox way, yes. One that will make sense in the future.” He began. “The five of us. After training.” He decided, and Elyse stared at him.
“What have you been up to, Sooga?”
“...It’s a long story. One that we don’t have time for.”
“So give me the short story.”
Elyse blocked Sooga’s way out, her shoulders tensed again. The two of them stared at each other through their masks. Elyse waited for an explanation, fingers drumming on her waist expectantly, and Sooga was debating on whether or not he should. How could he sum up the past few days without sounding completely ridiculous? Fabricated?
A Sheikah teenager with uncontrolled powers, eerily resembling Sooga’s, poisoned by a mysterious illness. The “illness” in question are hands, by the way. And the teen is no ordinary Sheikah, but the chosen one of the village to protect the king and princess. Only the Yiga’s most hated enemy. No biggie, Elyse.
“Well?”
Sooga pressed his hands together-
“Sooga!”
-And he teleported away.
"That is all for class today." Sooga lowered the practice sword, and returned a bow that the few students had given him. "Continue practicing your positions; Partner and make use of the sparring room."
A few chuckles and murmurs went around between the six or seven students. Sooga blinked, and pursed his lips, but let it slide.
As the classroom filed out, familiar faces filed in one by one. Adriel swiped a wooden stick left behind, brandishing it at Sooga with a playful jab. "En guard, Sooga! Eh, eh?" He posed like a Hylian knight, snickering at the exaggerated movements. Elyse walked in behind, scoffing.
"Are you going to teleport away again?"
"Ah, he's gotten the hang of it, finally?" Adriel replied. Elyse crossed her arms.
“Sooga’s only been avoiding my questions, like he’s been avoiding training.” Elyse’s disdain could be heard loud and clear. Adriel looked over at Sooga with a grin in his voice.
“Now, that’s no fun, Sooga. Is that what this meeting is for? To tell us all the gossip~”
“I will, but-”
“Did anyone invite Tulsi?” Lareina asked.
“I did, she scuttled away, said she had to feed Stella.” Adriel responded quickly, before turning his head back to Sooga. “Soooo…We can get started early and fill Tulsi in later. What have you been doing that’s so much more important, Sooga?”
Sooga crossed his arms with a grunt. “You must all swear secrecy. Right now. Hands in front of you.”
The three of them glanced at each other, and Sooga knew this was not how they envisioned it would begin. But Sooga closed two eyes and opened three; He needed to know they weren’t lying as they promised.
Sooga took a deep breath, took a seat down on the mats, and began.
“There is talk that the king will begin excavations around Hyrule. For buried Sheikah technology. Knowing the history of the last Calamity, there is buried technology here in the desert.”
The room was quiet between them. Even Adriel had nothing to say, chin in his hand, attention on Sooga.
“We need guards in and around the village and the hideout.” Sooga explained, and Elyse held up a hand to stop him from going any further.
“Does Master Kohga know about this?” She asked, and seemingly read his mind. “We can’t keep this from him.”
“There’s not enough information.” Sooga replied. “Rumors and gossip is all that’s in those letters, but there is some truth in the talk. Infiltrating the castle again is my only hope to gain more insight. To know exactly when, how, and where it’s going to happen.”
“We can’t have another situation like Faron.” Elyse announced all of their fears, confirmed by head nods. “I didn’t want to pursue it, but…I see now that I need to put my fears aside.”
Silent footsteps came up behind Sooga, and he closed his eyes to hold back a sigh. “Welcome, Tulsi. Did you finish feeding the spider?”
“Her name is Stella. And…Yes. Sorry for my absence.” She said, and Sooga braced himself for another jab. But Tulsi moved around him, and folded her long legs down to sit on the empty mat between Sooga and Lareina. “I have already heard, no need to fill me in. I will train the footsoldiers.”
Lareina lifted her head, quiet the whole time. “I can handle the investigation.” She looked at Sooga. He almost did a double-take. He had no doubt in Lareina’s abilities, but…
“I thought you said you were not a good liar.” Sooga said. Lareina turned her gaze down.
“That’s true, but…I want to help. I can learn.”
“Elyse and I can take up guard duty.” Adriel shrugged. “But that means you’ll have to take up training, Sooga.”
“Very well.” Sooga nodded. But something lingered on his mind. “There is one more thing that I have discovered. It seems the royals do not trust the Sheikah. And I….I have met one that was exiled from the castle, it seems. The way the old Sheikah was exiled long ago.”
The others all stared at Sooga, Elyse being the first one to whisper, “What?!”
“A young kid. I found him far away from the castle, farther than any castle Sheikah has ever gone. They are usually bound to the king or princess, but this one was injured outside of the Highlands.”
“A spy, then.” Elyse snapped. “Did you ever think of that?”
“Of course I did.” Sooga responded. “But I know how to detect intentions. He shares the same curse as I do. He’s had multiple chances to betray me, and I have had ample times to betray him.”
“Aaaand you’re friends now?” Adriel guessed, deadpan.
Tulsi tilted her head, listening intently to Sooga.
“You know as well as I do that the Sheikah and Yiga are closely related. I am not heartless, Adriel. He was attacked by a monster we’ve never seen before in the Tabantha fields. It has left him with a poison that only grows worse every night. If he were a spy, he’d have returned by now, or been retrieved. No one has come.”
“I want to see them.” Tulsi spoke up, every word clicking in sound. “If they are Blademaster size, then you two can work it out amongst yourselves. But if they are Footsoldier size, I will be the judge.”
Oh, no…Sooga held back a long and weary sigh. “Fair enough.” Sooga braced a hand on his knee. “Are we all at an understanding?”
“Adriel and I will take a few students to begin guard duty. You and Lareina will work on infiltration. Tulsi will continue training, and apparently have one more student.” Elyse rolled her eyes at the last part.
With that, Lareina, Adriel and Elyse all filed out one by one, to work on their next tasks for the night. Tulsi did not leave, instead unfolding herself as Sooga stood. When she stood, she towered over him with her height alone. The decor of her mask never helped, and neither did the fuzzy tarantula walking across her shoulders.
“Your son?” Tulsi asked, and Sooga did a double-take on that.
“Wha- No!”
“Only a question.” Tulsi giggled- A chalky, gritty laugh, and her spider--Stella--Crawled up the sides of her mask to rest on her head. “I want to meet them.”
“Why?”
Tulsi stared at Sooga. Better not to ask again. Sooga sighed, and nodded begrudgingly. “Fine. Fine…”
He just hoped Kiso was where Sooga had left that morning. But something wavered inside of him that hinted otherwise. Call it a hunch, or…
“Do you hear that?” Tulsi froze.
Sooga stopped, and Tulsi cocked her head to the side, farther back as she turned her head side to side. The commotion grew louder; Young voices arguing, shrieking, yelling.
That bad feeling grew. Sooga and Tulsi glanced at each other, and walked at a brisk pace through the halls. They followed the noise until Sooga rounded the corner, hand on his sword.
“What is going on here?!”
Kurre stomped her way past two nervous footsoldiers trailing along, her hand wrapped tightly around Kiso’s wrist with an iron grip that he couldn’t let go of. It didn’t stop him from trying, though, and the sight gave Sooga an immediate headache. Kiso’s feet dug back, but Kurre’s grasp was stronger; She was literally dragging him behind her like a ragdoll, and Kiso growled at the two footsoldiers that unfortunately wandered too close. His face was shielded by a Yiga mask, he was dressed in traditional clothes of the culture.
He could have fit in seamlessly, if not for the ghastly, glowing miasma on his skin, now coiled around his fingers.
The footsoldiers immediately stopped and bowed to Tulsi and Sooga, nervously announcing their names in respect.
“Let me through.” Kurre demanded. “I’m going to see Master Kohga.”
“Can you please explain to me the meaning of this?” Sooga gestured to Kiso, and he tried yanking his arm away again.
“I’m fine!”
“He’s NOT fine. He collapsed in the street. His blood is infected-”
“I’m FINE.”
“-And the corrosion has grown worse since last night. I have no references to treat this, and the other doctors in town are a waste of time. I am taking him to Master Kohga.”
Tulsi leaned down, watching Kiso’s hand flailing. “How terrifying it must be.”
She raised her head as Kiso moved again, quickly joining his hands to teleport with Sheikah magic. A blue flame erupted from his palms, and combusted with a loud pang, and Kurre flinched- Enough for her grasp to loosen, and Kiso tore away, stumbling back into the footsoldiers.
Everything happened within a matter of seconds.
“Woah!” They shouted, and caught him easily, and Kiso’s mask flipped up for a brief second. Sooga’s mouth fell open as he saw the corrosion had taken over half of Kiso’s face, turning his left red eye into something monstrous; He saw yellow, red, a sharp pupil and the swirling poison before the mask fell again, and Kiso grabbed at his chest.
He saw Kiso’s third eye alight.
Kiso’s gaze whipped upwards to the walls in panic, and Sooga followed; There was nothing there, but Kiso tore himself from the footsoldiers grip and scrambled farther into the dim hall.
“Sooga, it’s-!” Kiso shouted, before his words were cut off with a choking gasp. His back flew to the adjacent wall and was pinned. His head lifted as if something were strangling him. Tulsi snapped at the footsoldiers and they nodded and took off.
“What is going on, Sooga?!” Kurre shouted, and Sooga quickly removed his own mask as he sprinted forward.
Sooga closed his eyes, reaching out to Kiso, and finally saw what the Sheikah did.
All the warm lights in the room bursted with a wailing scream; A bloody creature had its long hand wrapped around Kiso’s neck, and the color of the poison matched the creature near perfectly.
Something like blood poured down from the walls too quickly, taking shape as another hand-like creature, one with a single eye darting around before landing on its fresh target.
“Help….Me…” Kiso wheezed.
Sooga tore his gaze away and moved to press his palm against Kiso’s forehead; To make it all stop like the last time. But something unleashed and a flash of red across his vision made Sooga shout, and he felt his body crash into a stack of boxes nearby.
Someone shouted; He couldn’t tell who.
Long fingers grabbed underneath his arms and lifted, and Sooga fought against the urge to elbow a monster in the face, but Tulsi’s scarf stopped him from starting a fight.
He saw Kurre kneel down beside Kiso, hands reaching for his neck.
“WHAT is GOING on here?!!”
Kiso let out a gasp, and then a rough cough as he crumpled to the floor in Kurre’s arms. Sooga tried to stand before his legs and brain connected, and Tulsi held him afloat by his arms.
“Ah,” She said with a tense voice. “Good evening, Master Kohga.”
Oh, fuck.

ABOUT ;
Born in Deya Village to a Sheikah father and a Gerudo mother, Choji is the older twin sister of Sooga (@devotedblades). She was born exactly 17 minutes before her brother and she will hold this over him every chance she gets.
When the twins were ten years old, they were witness to a horrible flash flood that destroyed their village - their parents were in their little wood house when the flood waters slammed the house into the surrounding hills. Neither parent survived.
On their own, the twins ran. Knowing there was little kindness in Hyrule to Sheikah because of the fear-mongering of the old Kings, they ran for the desert - maybe they could find their mother's kin and seek home with them.
Both of them were exhausted and starved by the time they reached the Gerudo Canyons. Choji was worse off than Sooga was and she told him to go on without her - find help, find them a home. Once he was out of sight, she resigned herself to die alone in the canyon.
Her brother, however, did find help and a home - with the Yiga, who took the twins in. Choji had a couple of close calls, but both twins slowly recovered, grew stronger, and became part of the Yiga clan - their own kin from the cataclysmic split thousands of years ago.
While Sooga would rise up the ranks as one of the strongest Blademasters and eventually become Master Kohga's right-hand man, Choji chose two paths - becoming both a spymaster and an apothecary. She trained in traditional medicine, stealth tactics, and hand-to-hand combat. She frequents Gerudo Town for supplies and information that can help her family,

So I finally got Age of Calamity, and I almost cried while fighting the Yiga Clan because I’m a diehard fan of Kohga and his hunk of meat bodyguard.
Anyways. Today I learned that I basically kin Master Kohga through “role playing” in a discord server. (I put it in quotes because I didn’t want to role play- my name is The Actual Master Kohga in the server and a bunch of people kept acting like I was ACTUALLY THE CHARACTER when my name is a joke- Did I mention that a random user [Sooga] kept talking to me?)

hello blessed yiga scribe i come to you with an unhinged 11pm thought
i’ve been doing a lot of thinking and i was wondering if you’ve thought about this too, but do yiga have any sort of funeral or ritual for any of their fallen soldiers? like, do they formally mourn their dead who have died both naturally and in battle
(my thought is excluding super high rank yiga like kohga, sooga, cil, von, etc. but you can include stuff about them too if you want :))
Sorry I haven't been on too much- the encanto Fandom on my other blog has been keeping me busy with commissions! Let me get to your question!(also, so good to see you in the inbox, I adore your asks)
It depends. If say, it was foot soldiers who passed, Kohga offers a quick prayer, and they blow out candles in acknowledgement. The whole thing takes no more than half a day, before they resume their duties. Friends or lovers of the fallen may ask Kohga for a quick moment of comfort, but he hates doing it. It's one of his few jobs though, so he does it. Death in battle is honestly no different than death outside of it, both are treated honorably.
Blade master's (and other high rank jobs) are a bit different. Being higher up the ladder, Kohga acknowledges them by their ranks, skills, and names, should they have one. Special blade masters who are considered the best of the best have their photos hung in what is known as 'the hall of mourning'. Holds pictures of all the fallen Yiga's important to Yiga history. Kohga also has these photos in an amblum that belongs to the head of the clan only. Kohga already has a spot for himself and Sooga.
Should Kohga die. His death immediately calls for a next of kin. Should there be no children/siblings (or any blood relatives, honestly), the second hand would take over. If, say Sooga wasn't the second hand, it'd be decided unanimously amongst the clan. Most would vote for Von, but he'd make it very clear he wants the position to go for Cil. Now this one is a bit tricky.
Let's say the next heir was pre decided. How Kohga's funeral is handled, is based off entirely to them. It can be as simple as a moment of silence (as it was for Kohga's father), or a giant firework ceremony and a week of mourning (as it was for Kohga Jr's grandmother).
If an heir isn't officially set up, then it's a mess. They both have to continue their duties, and wait three days for the clan to vote. It's hard to run a clan without a leader, but it has in fact, happened before. Regardless of how the funeral itself is handled however, one thing must remain tradition- that their ashes join their picture frames in the hall of mourning.
It's a lot of rules for this shit, and honestly it's a real bummer on Kohga, he HATES funerals.
#asks#yiga rules#as for what they do with the bodies#most of the time they're cremated and thrown into the pit#and if there isn't a body#any possession of theirs will suffice

So I Don’t Forget Again: A Breath of The Wild fanfiction
Entry 152: Zora’s Domain
It somehow felt natural waking up to his smile. It seems like he didn’t notice I woke up at first. He apologized, asking if stroking my hair work me up. He just meant to move some hair away from my face, but he accidentally just kept going. I honestly don’t know, but the was sun rising anyway so maybe the change of lighting was what did it. In the temples the lighting hardly changes, it just barely gets darker at night, I have to really look for it to tell.
Sidon apologized for falling asleep, he meant to keep me company though the night, though he was so glad to awaken with me asleep beside him. He hadn’t been awake for too much longer than me. A prince has many duties so he must rise with the sun he says.
Sidon was glad I finally let myself sleep a little. He asked me how I felt about it. If it was scary or not. It was somewhat, but I felt safe to try. Sidon was glad, though he did wish I would sleep where the doctors could monitor me.
I’m healed, though some infections are still inside me. The doctors thought that sleeping naturally healed me, but that can’t be. I know for a fact I have slept out under the stars when injured and I did not awaken healed. The new theory is that I heal when asleep only when in a bed, or I’m comfortable. I also told them about how the hot springs can heal me too. They’ve started discussing finding some Sheikah scientists and seeing if together they could figure out how my body works.
Purah said she was going to go to the Revitalizing Chamber to study it. I wonder if she’s still there.
The doctors kept me for a while, and my infections have actually spread. This was why they didn’t want me to fully heal just yet. Thankfully the damage was able to be fixed for my side before so it’s just in my arm again. They want me to stay a bit longer to adjust my medicine and make sure it has no adverse effects on me. They told me to not use my arm still, or if I must, be gentle with it, they don’t want it to possibly reach my bones or other organs. It’s eating away at me in a way, so if I’m not careful, I could tear something, and the infection gets inside and not stay outside and it will become much more difficult to manage.
Sidon had mixed feelings about this. At least I could finally take the splint off.
I never knew food could taste so good! After all the tests and pocking at my arm Sidon and I cooked again! I missed eating much more than I thought I ever could! We cooked so much, it was practically a feast and we fed the whole town. Even the King was impressed by my cooking and loved trying Gerudo cuisine! The feast lasted through the whole afternoon. Sidon and I only got to eat after everyone else was full and done, but I don’t mind. They popped into the kitchen once in a while to help or to just chat for a bit. It was nostalgic to make honeyed apples again. I should visit Kakariko Village soon. Any food that was left over I finished. I’d like to try combining different cuisine, I think some of the different pieces placed together would compliment each other well! Sidon was excited by the idea.
The kitchen can get really hot, so a nice cool bath was perfect after the meal.
Sidon filled the bath with bubbles again and massaged the goopy stuff in my hair and on my scalp again.
Taking baths just feels so great. Sidon agreed with me that renovating my house to add a bath was a nice idea. I think I’ll keep the bathing plants outside so they can keep growing even when I’m gone traveling. I’ll just pick what I want or need and leave them by the bath when I go in. Maybe I could keep a fire rod at the bottom to heat the water. And maybe I could get a waterbed as well. It would be nice to expand the house a little and add a bigger kitchen. I could also possibly work the land around my house for a while so I can just grow more rarer ingredients, though the plants from the desert might not be able to grow in dirt.
Sidon told me he loved hearing me speak like this.
Speaking of houses actually reminded him of something. After reading my memories a while back, Sidon wanted to help with the construction of Bolson’s town in Akkala and found a zora who’s name ending with son who was willing to go there and help. He had experienced much of life, being alive when the Calamity struck as a warrior. He just wants a peaceful life. His goal is actually to wed a couple, and surely people would want to get married in the new town. One of the Gerudo women who came traveling with Sidon, her name also ended in son so Sidon convinced her to go. So all that is left is to send a Rito their way.
I should go back and check up on the place some time soon. I’m going to Rito Village soon anyway so perhaps after I help them, though I will be going past the Akkala region on my way there so maybe I should pop by for a quick visit.
Sidon wondered if my healing only worked when I am comfy and happy. Perhaps though the water was not hot, if I were injured right then if I’d be healing. He noticed that I heal when I’m comfortable. I don’t heal when traveling because I’m likely on edge or only half asleep prepared for an attack. It would explain why baths, sleeping in a bed in a town, and eating could all heal me, because they all relax me and make me comfortable. I could see that, but then I wouldn’t have been injured so long here getting to be with him so much.
Sidon asked me if I ever get scars even though I heal. I’m not entirely sure. I know I had scars on my body when I woke up from my hundred-year sleep. I also try to eat as soon as I get hurt so they’re gone so quickly I never exactly get the chance to even remember where they were.
Sidon asked if he could have a closer look at my scars. He gently traced them, like when he was reading the engravings about Zora history. It was like he was trying to memorize them. He said it was almost surprising how such a little body could fit so many marks. Some of them are slightly discolored from the rest of my skin, some of them sink deeply into me. Sidon said he’d never seen scars so big.
Sidon let me trace his scars. He has one the left fin thing on his head. He got it from a great battle with a giant octorok that swallowed him whole.
He became oddly quiet though, then he asked me if he could ask something related to my darker thoughts. He asked if I ever wish I never woke up, that I was never placed in the revitalizing Chamber. I feel like I should have died with them, but do I want that as well.
I think if I truly grasped this situation I’m in sooner, then maybe yes. If I remembered my past when I woke up instead of not recalling a thing, I think I might have.
If I wasn’t alive there would be no one else to finish what we had started. We’d all be restless, and the others will keep being like that till I defeat the Calamity. My want to protect everybody, make sure they are happy is worth much more than eternal rest to me. If I stayed dead, then so many more people would have gotten hurt than even now with the Yiga clan chasing me. Besides, as much as I hurt, there is so much here that was not a hundred years ago. I never would have met Yunobo, or Riju or Kass a hundred years ago. And I never would have gotten to see how amazing Sidon would have become if I somehow continued to live on in that time. I have something that outweighs the pain, even if at times it is all consuming and I almost forget everyone, but that’s why I write here in the first place. I re-read this every night, so I don’t forget.
Sidon told me it truly is a miracle that we were able to meet now. He is so glad we were able to meet, but he was wondering if all the pain was too much. He doesn’t want to be blind to my feelings, he wants to understand me.
At times it feels like he knows me better than I do. I’m not sure how he could understand me better, but I’m glad he wants too. He told me that he’s glad I feel the same.
Sidon asked if I’d stay with him in his room tonight. He found himself unable to let me go yet. He wanted to stay by me longer. He told me it was selfish of him to want for all my time, but he couldn’t lie to himself, so he had to at least ask, however he made sure I didn’t feel pressured to go. He never wanted to force me into anything. He only wanted me to be with him if I wanted too, being with me would feel fake otherwise, and he wants to keep our bond genuine.
Sidon only travels sometimes since he’s busy taking care of his people. Still though, he dreams of traveling more, like when coming to save me, his logical reasoning being making closer ties between his people and others, but he also just wants to travel. He wants to see the towns, experience life in other places and experience their cultures. After Mipha’s passing he was somewhat ignored and coddled. For so long, even now everyone is focusing on Mipha and grieving her, it’s still a fresh wound for many of them. Because of that he was just kind of there, still cared for, but just there. Though as the last next of kin in the royal family he couldn’t leave the Domain too often for his safety with all the guardians around. He has been taught to fight but has only gotten to use those skills on occasion, that was known at least. Secretly he’d sneak off to fight monsters who came near the Domain or the water ways that branched throughout Hyrule. The only person who didn’t do this is his father, he grieved for his daughter but he didn’t compare her and Sidon, he made sure to love and praise Sidon for his accomplishments, he actually liked it when Sidon snuck out with me to find Me or when he came to rescue me recalling his own reckless adventures as a prince, but he’s the king, he has so much to do. Sidon loves his people, and they love him too, but at a distance, because he’s not Mipha. The younger generations are more inclined to see him though. It was not a bad childhood, but it was straining at times.
Sidon told me that he actually sent out some guards to go out to search for a Hylian warrior because he’s not allowed to go out farther than Inogo Bridge. He only left because Bossa Nova got swept away by the current and he just had to go save his friend. Bossa Nova was to be kept in town, but he wandered off as usual and someone spotted him fall in the ferocious river. If Sidon had not been told, he likely would have stayed by that bridge, he only would have left if the situation had become absolutely dire.
Sidon feels he could do more for his people if he were allowed more freedom, and they all expanded their horizons and looked at the world beyond their canyon and waters. Others always came to them, rarely the other way around.
In Sidon’s room are trinkets from other places. He excitedly told me stories about each of the items. About the rock a Goron had given him, saying it was their favorite and a little guy like Sidon needed to eat great food to grow up big and strong. Some golden jewelry the Gerudo women gave Sidon after returning here from saving me, loving how excited he was happily traveling with them, and as thanks for fighting so well with them. Some sheet music Kass no longer needed since he memorized the songs long ago, they were songs Sidon was especially fond of because Sidon met Kass when he was practicing those songs. A stone frog from Kakariko Village as thanks for helping them when the town began to get flooded for a time. I would write everything, but I only have so many pages.
Sidon’s room is large and has a balcony. He has a large desk for paperwork where many of his items are placed. There’s this large pool in the middle. Zoras don’t sleep in beds often, they usually sleep in the water or pools like this. Sidon had many pillows, carpets and blankets from Gerudo Town. Sidon set them beside the pool as makeshift cushions.
It’s so strange to see Sidon without his silver pieces and the blue sash. They just seemed like a part of him I suppose, I’ve never seen him without them before.
As he was placing away his pieces, Sidon tripped over Bossa Nova who had wandered in as Sidon was showing me his items I suppose. He’s so quiet it seems neither of us noticed him. In Sidon’s room is also a work bench for chiseling and working with crystal. In the commotion Sidon had bumped into it knocking the items off it and I had to catch them before they fell into the water. Sidon panicked, screamed as he ripped the items from my hands and checked them. He shakily sighed and held my hands closely, thankful I didn’t catch the dagger by the blade.
The blade is white and serrated while the hilt is crystal. Sidon reminded me of when I told him of my time with Calisa, and all she had taught me about travel and survival. I only have large weapons so many things are difficult to work with without smaller tools. Smaller tools would be extremely useful for making fires, digging, cutting down branches, collecting bark, and many other things. Sidon decided to make a dagger for me out of his teeth. Bone is extremely strong so is should not break easily. Not only would it make for a good tool, but a weapon as well. Sidon worries that there may come a day where I’m in danger and he is unable to get to me in time, so I could at least have this, a part of him with me. He told me his affections for me runs deeper than I may even be able to even fathom. His heart belongs to his people, but to me as well.
The other item is like his sliver pieces, but bigger and longer. Sidon was also making a piece to protect my arm. It had the Zora’s crest, the three crescent shapes, but in the crescent shapes are sapphires and in the space between where the crescents touch is one of Sidon’s scales. He showed me how the gems could be taken out and have other gems placed in. At the bazaar I had taught him about what I had learned about gems and the powers they have. Sidon wanted me to be able to utilize their powers. This way I could use multiple gems powers at once or have multiple of one so the power could stack up, and with rubies, hopefully keep me warm in the Hebra Mountains where the Rito Village is till I could get some warm clothing from there. Sidon wanted to make something to protect my arm, though he was a little nervous that I’d be more reckless with my arm because it was protected and not try to shield it more.
The scale placed in armor to protect someone; this is rather culturally significant. Sidon had told his father and Muzu what he had been making for me, he started this one when he returned after saving me.
I asked Sidon if he could out right, out loud, say it.
Sidon told me that like writing down things, saying things out loud makes them more real, and I had so much on my mind already, he was worried about adding something else, about if this could stress me. I told him I would be okay. I just want to indulge myself and hear him say it first. Directly, not roundabout like we have been this whole time.
Sidon thinks he’s in love me.
I think I’m in love with him too.
The King and Muzu had questioned Sidon, but he told them he didn’t care if I didn’t return his feelings, he wanted to protect me from anywhere like Mipha with her armor and trident, Sidon would always come to my rescue should I need it, but in case he couldn’t get to me in time he still wanted to help even if he isn’t physically there.
It fits perfectly, I asked Sidon when he took my measurements. He got sheepish, telling me he just tried remembering how it feels to hold my arm.
I’m trying to keep writing, but all these feelings keep welling up and I almost feel like crying? But it doesn’t hurt? Like my chest is trembling, and my throat is getting choked up? I’m only directly writing this now, so I guess it’s only settling in now how real this is? Nothing has changed. We both knew we liked each other for a while now, only thing that’s changed is directly saying it. And now I can feel my heart pounding. Am I panicking? Am I just excited? I don’t know!
Sidon asked me if he could court me. Sidon was getting a bit flustered now, and he tried explaining what me meant, but just kept tripping over his words. He leaned in before abruptly stopping. He asked if he could kiss me.
Sidon’s teeth are still very sharp. When he parted he realized he cut my lip on accident and started panicking. I had to keep reassuring I was okay and reminded him just eating or sleeping would fix it.
And my heart is racing like when he tells me I’m adorable. Why must Sidon do this to me.
It was so late, Sidon told me I could leave if I wanted. I asked him if that’s what he wanted. He wanted me to stay. I wanted to stay as well.
Sidon tried staying up again. He apologized when he couldn’t keep his eyes open. I promised him I’d go to sleep with him when I was done writing, and now I’ll do just that.

The Yiga Clan
Aka, my take on respawning. (If you read my fanfiction Sing Your Sorrow When All Your Tears Run Dry, you’ll have heard this already)
We know the Yiga Clan was born after the Royal family turned on the Sheikah, deciding to throw their lot in with Ganon for a chance at revenge.
Suppose, though, that they weren’t “just” a cult worshipping Ganon, or the descendants of the first Yiga plus whatever disaffected Sheikah they managed to recruit through the years.
What if they were the original Sheikah, the ones who lived through the betrayal? Perhaps they used the last of their magic, their last breath to swear themselves to Ganon.
Perhaps they got away - they were warriors, after all - but their families didn’t. Perhaps they had been lured far away when the stab to the back came, perhaps they had to fight their way back to their village only to find it in ruins.
Perhaps they swore vengeance on their own blood as it slowly soaked the ground, perhaps they swore it on blood-stained weapons they had turned against their own surviving kin.
Perhaps they called on Ganon among green hills, the taste of ashes and smoke in their mouth. Perhaps he came to them after they fled into the desert, and offered them the chance to seek vengeance again and again.
Either way, his power keeps them anchored to this plane of existence and returns them to life when they fall - with the help of the Blood Moon when he is weaker, even earlier when he is stronger.
Of course, there was a price for that: the Yiga return as warriors, not as people. They retain all their combat skills, but not their personal identities. They remember the betrayal - that’s pretty much all they remember and their hurt, their rage is still fresh, as though it had happened yesterday and not years, centuries ago. They don’t...quite remember who they were. What their name was, who they lost - a spouse and children? Parents? Siblings? All of them, none of them?
They only remember the loss.
Over the years, other disaffected Sheikah join their ranks, get caught in the cycle of death-respawning-vengeance, but they remain the minority. Besides, give it a few rebirths and no one can tell the difference. They don’t remember it themselves.
In spite of all this, their ranks are not set in stone - one can gain new skills and advance. The one major downside is that, if you screw up big enough, dying won’t get you out of whatever punishment the current Clan Master devises...

ZELDA RELATED VERSE / @bxstiae
Your hands had never been soft. The whispers that were etched in your history were deeper than blood. Your past had marked your future, you family had been cursed for years. They had been loyal once to the royal family, but something changed within them. They had gone from Sheikah, noble, protectors of the royal family to something wicked. Often they were mistaken for the Yiga clan, the Shimada blood was something else entirely. They were too woven into the world of the spirits, the magic that riddled bones. Passed because of how deeply the people had found faith in such matters. When Hanzo had been born hundreds of years later, history had been wiped to nothing. The bloody history of the Yiga was nothing but a speck and imprint in time, but a costly one at that. History claims there once was a group of people that had tamed the dragons when ganon had risen to power. Power is a curious thing and a birthright to some. For Hanzo it was a mark on his shoulder, that left an etching of electric current running hot in his bones, the dragons are no stories to the Shimada, they broke away from the main Yiga clan years ago, their kin had remembered the secrets of magic passed within the royal family and woven it into their children and kin over the years. It was not power like the triforce but it held a deep imprint in the soul. It was passed to the main houses children, both sons. This verse takes place within twilight princess, but Hanzo’s history and founding of who the Shimada are stem from the breath of the wild era. It was years of woven magic by their kin and a twisted curse that gave them their spirit powers. Hanzo’s dragon abilities have a deep connection to the spirit world. This being said, the dragons created by the Goddesses live through Hanzo. They are an ally despite the twisted and warped history his family has had with the royal family. Farosh ( electricity) & Naydra (ice) have a deep rooted connection to Hanzo, and the dragons, come to him when he is wounded, or his life is threatened. It is unclear as to why they have chosen him for a vessel. The Shimada clan has Yiga & Shiekah clan roots, their family was a mix of both, and because of that some of the family was close to the royal family which in turn passed magic to the bloodline, and possibly due to that blessed Hanzo to be able to see the dragons by his family’s history. Hanzo is still a master at archery, and is able to fight with a sword. The canon event of him ‘killing’ Genji still pertains, after differing ideals, and his brother being more towards helping the royal family and being aganist ganon than supporting him, Hanzo took the side of supporting ganon at first but then changed sides after he was ordered to kill his brother, Genji’s death was his shatter point and woke him up. Hanzo is around thirty in this verse. The dragons are highly protective of him, and are the sole reason the twilight did not affect him, it is not to say he’s immune, just he was able to remain out of the sprit world due to the dragons. He by no means is on Link or Zelda’s level as far as things go, he knows the triforce is s very powerful thing and it’s the soul reason he didn’t attempt to fight ganon.

Silence reigns after their question, so Zen waits for a few moments before repeating themselves.
“Why are we separated from the Sheikah? They retrieved some of our lost technology at the command of the Hyrulean Royal Family, who may or may not be still surviving. The Champions have Sheikah Slates. The Champions pilot our Divine Beasts. The Heroine has a Sheikah Slate. What is holding us back?”
Their queries are responded to by the elder who spoke their name the other night, who steps forward and speaks quietly and seriously.
“We were threatened, forced to leave it behind by the Royal Family, who were afraid of us. Shunned by our own people for our disapproval of that fact.”
“And if the prince is dead? If our sister clan were to express interest in reuniting with us, even if we were to stay our own clan?”
“...you wish for us to join the Sheikah again?”
“I wish for us to stop a war against them and the others that has been fruitless for centuries. Rejoining our clans as one may not be realistic, given how we’ve grown apart and the long-standing animosity between us, but I’m tired of fighting against our own kin for a disagreement that happened lifetimes ago and decisions made that have long since been reversed.”
The gathering of Yiga around the outside of the arena erupts in noise when they finish speaking that sentence, arguing among themselves. It took multiple elders shouting with their amplified voices to quiet them again minutes later, and Zen took the fact that there were far less than half of them with aggressive postures as a win. It was obvious that a significant number of them weren’t convinced it was a good idea, but they were likely to begrudgingly listen if the rest went with it.
“I have seen the Sheikah Phantom fight. I’ve spoken with him, and returned unharmed. He knows things we could only dream of, and I need not remind you of what we do know of him. The Bard learned from him. The Heroine has been learning from him.” They turn to the crowd rather than the elders, straightening their posture and setting their shoulders back a bit. “There is so, so much of our past that we’re missing out on. Our kin are reclaiming their lost culture and technology, while we haphazardly wander the kingdom, entirely directionless aside from an ancient grudge directed at people who haven’t had anything to do with our self imposed exile in thousands of years. We can keep going in our current path of chaotic warmongering and let ourselves fall farther behind, or we can recognize that circumstances have changed, and we have the opportunity to work with our old clan to repair the damages done.”
From somewhere among the thousands of Yiga, a single voice pipes up, just loudly enough to be heard. “We’ve served the Calamity for thousands of years, why change now? How do we know we won’t invoke it’s wrath upon ourselves? How do we know that the Sheikah won’t betray us the moment we’re no longer deemed a threat?”
“The Calamity is indiscriminate in it’s wrath. The hundreds of us who have gone to investigate the castle and been destroyed are evidence enough of that. It doesn’t care if we’re serving it or not, we exist as beings in a world that it loathes. We will die alongside the others in this world whether or not we serve it. As for the Sheikah, I can’t say that they won’t. But I can say that I am tired of fighting with them. There have been too many losses on both sides, and I am at least sure that a cease-fire agreement would be easy enough to agree on, until we can work through things and find a way to handle this that we can all agree on.”

ruta's first experience with the yiga was a personal one. after her champion's father died and he became the zora king, theyd had to travel to hyrule castle for diplomatic reasons. triton rarely traveled with zora knights, he thought ruta and himself was enough.
at this point in time, there was unrest in hyrule over the sheikah technology. triton had already made it clear to the elder zora that ruta would NOT be shut down, even if it lost him his people's favor. the sheikah clan effectively split, and yiga had made themselves a name and a hideout. during their travel to the castle, the two of them had been ambushed by a group of yiga. they wanted to get their name out there. going after the hylian monarchy would be too big of a task with their numbers, but theyd figured assassinating the zora king would be easier.
this would be the first time ruta took the life of someone that wasnt a monster. she didnt care about her own wellbeing, she only cared about protecting triton. they fortunately were able to strike down a few yiga, prompting the rest to cut their losses and leave. it tore her up for a while, lamenting the fact she'd killed sheikah, the group she considered her kin.
it wasnt until they got to the castle that she found out more about the yiga. that theyd split from the sheikah, and revered the calamity as some sort of god. that they wanted nothing more than it to rise again, and for it to succeed in ruining hyrule. her guilt soon turned to anger and hatred. they were allied with the calamity, the very being she was created to aid in destroying. at that point, they were the enemy.
even 9000 years later when she awoke, her disdain for them hadnt subsided. she never forgot the attempt on her champion's life. she never forgot their attempts on her life either only because she was a sheikah. ruta even finds it fun to hunt yiga down and slay them, unfitting of her normally cheerful nature. she will never forgive them, and only wants to see them all fall

Tell me about your lore, but without using the letter E. (*I chose that at random, just because that one's the most common letter. However feel free to substitute with a different letter if you think that would be more fun/funny.)
A group known as Yiga Clan is on a mission to vanquish unjust isolation of its kin by a tyrannical monarchy. Aid by many distinct groups is found along its touring through mountains, rivers, canyons, and harsh conditions in scout of impartiality.
