ruta's first experience with the yiga was a personal one. after her champion's father died and he became the zora king, theyd had to travel to hyrule castle for diplomatic reasons. triton rarely traveled with zora knights, he thought ruta and himself was enough.

at this point in time, there was unrest in hyrule over the sheikah technology. triton had already made it clear to the elder zora that ruta would NOT be shut down, even if it lost him his people's favor. the sheikah clan effectively split, and yiga had made themselves a name and a hideout. during their travel to the castle, the two of them had been ambushed by a group of yiga. they wanted to get their name out there. going after the hylian monarchy would be too big of a task with their numbers, but theyd figured assassinating the zora king would be easier.

this would be the first time ruta took the life of someone that wasnt a monster. she didnt care about her own wellbeing, she only cared about protecting triton. they fortunately were able to strike down a few yiga, prompting the rest to cut their losses and leave. it tore her up for a while, lamenting the fact she'd killed sheikah, the group she considered her kin.

it wasnt until they got to the castle that she found out more about the yiga. that theyd split from the sheikah, and revered the calamity as some sort of god. that they wanted nothing more than it to rise again, and for it to succeed in ruining hyrule. her guilt soon turned to anger and hatred. they were allied with the calamity, the very being she was created to aid in destroying. at that point, they were the enemy.

even 9000 years later when she awoke, her disdain for them hadnt subsided. she never forgot the attempt on her champion's life. she never forgot their attempts on her life either only because she was a sheikah. ruta even finds it fun to hunt yiga down and slay them, unfitting of her normally cheerful nature. she will never forgive them, and only wants to see them all fall
