What I’ve learned so far about ‘manifesting’

i find it extremely idiotic how people believe that they have to do this and that to get their desire. believe me, i used to be like that too. 2-3 years ago i joined a shifting community and let me tell ya, everyone overcomplicated the basics. thats when i gave up and left.

a few weeks ago when i was in a negative, heartbroken state and was begging to have my sp back, a manifestation video came up from this user called hyler. i followed her instructions and even sammy ingram’s.

that’s also where i discovered neville goddard for the first time.

i found it quite odd that we had to do affirm all the time, and thats what i did. i still felt weird, unaccomplished. i did get results, the negatives and the positives. i kept on holding on those results as a proof my sp loved me. but deep inside i knew what i was doing was completely wrong. if they tell you to live in the end, why would i affirm 24/7 to have that desire?

+also adding this, i’ve heard about the void state everywhere in pinterest and here and let me tell ya, after the experiences i’ve had in the shifting community, i stayed the (language) fuck away from that. yes sorry for the people who do the void state, yes cool if you do it if it works for you but for me i just hate doing methods.

it didnt make sense for me. i decided to listen to myself and found out more about neville goddard and edward art.

these two gentlemen made me open my eyes for the first time. this is what ive been missing. ive missed the whole point, everyone missed the whole point.

please study edward art’s works and his i am meditation.

anyways, the whole point is that you literally don’t have to lift a finger to have that desire you want. i’ve made some notes for myself when reading edward art:

“If you lived in a world where all things are possible, and you could create anything you want, would you choose to create a situation and then worry about it? No you would not. You only do because you are identifying yourself with your Outer-man! When I start to feel afraid, or worry, or feel pressure that causes me anxiety, I realize that I AM the INNER MAN CREATING that in the WORLD OF IMAGINATION.”

“I want you to stop worrying about HOW or WHEN it is going to happen and instead FEEL secure KNOWING this 3D world reflects what your INNER SELF HAS AND IS WITHIN.”

“In order to actually lose yourself in the imaginal act, one must accept it is real and let go entirely of the outer-world.”

“One must suspend rational thinking, and just accept it is real. They will free themselves that way in their mind.”

“You cannot be afraid anymore to feel and imagine what you want.”

“When I speak of feeling I do not mean emotion, but acceptance of the fact that desire is fulfilled.”

everything is all YOU. everything comes from YOU. YOU are the reason why things are like this. there’s legit no Universe telling you what you have to do. there isn’t anyone you have to follow to have what you want. no. that isn’t the point. the point is that you have been following yourself. everything has been you all along.

so basically about having that desire in imagination….. i know that you don’t have it physically in 3D but that does not matter. the thing you desire is the FEELING. please you must be very (excuse for my language) fucking stupid if you want it in the 3D.

imagine you already have your sp in the 3D, youve done the hard work and he’s/she’s yours now. great. you don’t feel anything, do you?

why do you want to be with your sp? ask yourself that.

im probably thinking that you want to be loved, yes?

bingo, that is the exact thing you desire. YOU desire to be loved. and guess what?

you are already loved. you legit don’t have to do anything to be loved. you are already loved. and i know, how tf am i loved when i’m single?

get that ‘single’ off your vocabulary. what’s important here that the 3D does not define you. put it inside your head. repeat that. remind yourself that.

the 3D is a reflection of your 4D. the 3D wouldn’t exist if the 4D never existed. the 3D lives off of the 4D (your imagination basically)

see? don’t tire yourself out by worrying about the 3D that you cannot change. it’s all in place, you cannot change it. the only way you can change it is by changing yourself.

no i do not want you to change your sp’s behaviour (remember eiypo) i want you to change your behaviour.

how?

well, how would you act and feel if you’re dating your sp?

would you still be worrying about the 3p? would you keep on checking his status if he’s online? would you be wondering if he loves you? would you be questioning on why he hasn’t came back?

all of that is useless! you’re basically still embodying as someone who’s desiring their sp. that is not what you want.

it is easy. you wouldn’t do all of those things. you already embody as someone who is in a happy relationship with your sp. you already know that you are loved. you never have to worry about them. you never feel stressed at all. you’re happy.

that is what’s important. you don’t have to be in the same state all the time btw, if you get reminded or get extremely anxious; just STOP FOR A SECOND.

don’t start affirming or start visualizing. don’t ask yourself if you’re doing it right. what is the point????? of asking that??????

instead, all you have to do is ‘know’ you already have them. leave it be. don’t meddle with it. trust that it has already happened. spoiler: it did ;)

don’t even think about the 3D, the 3D instantly changed because you changed. there is no such thing about waiting for the 3D to conform. there is no such thing about the 3D being your slave and has to obey you (let me tell ya i was confused when i saw those affirmations) the 3D and the 4D go by hand in hand. that’s the thing here.

so yeah.

i’ve read edward art’s works (plus other ppl) like few days ago so this is all the things i’ve learned. just in few days, how crazy is that lmao.

anyways, i hope you learned something from here, i also learned some new stuff while writing this.

zapsoda talks about one song from a musical he hasnt seen for a reaaaaally long time

wishs villain is a tragedy in every way. his song is. bad. (standard for the movie imo) but they way in which it wad bad enraptures me because beyond the writing itself, the performance itself is hollow.

youve heard the cliche, in musicals, characters sing when their emotions are too strong to be conveyed through words. but this guy doesnt seem to be conveying fucking anything.

uhhhhh hes selfish? i think?????? he is so empty and dull and devoid of personality. he just sounds vaguely condescending.

one criticism ive heard a lot is that the (pop) songwriter and producer duo were writing generic marketable pop songs so they would get radio hits like that one track from encanto. and i can fucking see it!!!! the appeal of musicals is how personal the songs are. the appeal of pop music is the opposite! musical songs can be relatable but when they are, its more personal, because they are *always* about very specific situations in stories which can then be applied to the real world.

in the lyrics he talks a lot about what he is? i guessss? (which. cmon guys. show dont tell) but its so fucking vague. does he even mention wishes once???? i thought that was like the whole point of his role in the movie? some shit about wishes? like at that point what is the point of including this song in the movie.

yes, villain songs are typically "i am" songs, but they do far fucking more than just tell you the villains main personality traits, thats something youre supposed to convey through their actions. typically, they are supposed to give you a deeper look into the character!

"poor unfortunate souls" is about how ursula portrays herself as a benevolent do gooder but actually just uses vulnerable people for her own benefit. "be prepared" is about scars evil plot to usurp the throne. "friends on the other side" is about faciliers curse shit.

this song could most accurately be compared to gastons song (is it just called 'gaston'?) but the mob song filled in for what it didnt provide, and "gaston" at least had the decency to be an entertaining and audibly enjoyable experience!

this is none of those. i guess it tells me about the character???? vaguely???? its not entertaining because its boring and repetitive, and it sounds like shit!

whats worse is the villain himself sounds bad. and i checked! chris pine can sing! he was in into the woods! whoever directed him just failed him miserably. i get this very strong impression that the song was not written with him or his character in mind.

back when the movie had just been like. announced. i heard rumors about him being kind of an ableist stereotype of a narcissist and i cannot confirm or deny that (havent seen the movie) based on testimony and what i have observed myself, he doesnt seem to have much of any character, let alone one that is exaggerative or stereotypical. he doesnt even seem to have much of a motive. he just wants whatever is convenient for the plot and does whatever will effectively move the plot along. (from what i fan tell)

for me the tragedy is that he is a disney villain. i love disney villains okay there hasnt been one and a while and he was created to bring that archetype back. hes an evil king! except hes not. hes just some fucking bland empty nobody. and yet the animation in the music video is so lively. its gorgeous. he moves so dramatically, his body language screams personality but his words, his design, and his actions do not.

clearly the people who worked on the movie are extremely skilled in what they do in a vacuum, and yet somehow they came together to make a really lame and boring end product. which i suspect is largely a result of the big faceless execs at the top of it all, wanting to make the safest and most marketable product imaginable. as opposed to, yknow, a work of art.

#i will never disparage the artists themselves especially visually. ive seen a lot of complaints about it but i really like it #the relative simplicity in terms of shading and depth reminds me of nimona #gives it a sort of storybook quality (just based on what ive seen)

So, first of all, how dare you? There's no reason for the emotional whiplash I experienced reading this monstrosity (positive with all the love and respect in the world i promise) yet here i am... a further damaged woman lmfao

But forreal though, you have a great ability to pull emotions out of your readers and thats just amazing in my eyes, especially as a fellow writer myself :') theres nothing I love more than making the ppl who read my own fics suffer emotionally so congrats to you!

I love how you write everyone in the story, they are so incredibly flawed and fucked up and human that it just makes me shed a tear. Thats why MC frustrates the HELL out of me, even though I adore her. Her flaws make my ass itch but all i want for her is to heal and be happy in the end (same with the others! I be wanting to punch the shit outta them sometimes 😭)

ESPECIALLY Hongjoong cause my guy is just unhinged but i love his character the most honestly because unhinged is hot to me. Im still kicking my feet and twirling my hair lmao

The relationships are so real and just... messy. Messy messy in the best way. But i just have to cheer them all on.

That chapter when mc and yeosang banged I was quite literally going bonkers like HELLO?????????????? I didnt expect that but now i want more of it cause their dynamic (especially when it comes to wooyoung) is so juicy

MC is such a tragic character and I feel for her the most. I love how we started off thinking Jisung was this great person but turns out that hes a fucking lunatic. You, Caly literally manipulated us into thinking so, like how Jisung manipulated MC and idk if that was intentional or not but it was brilliant. And Hyunwoo turning out to be like *that* was a punch in the gut. MC being betrayed by the ppl she cared for so much makes her question everything on the crew, especially Hongjoong and that's why I cant be too frustrated with her lol

I dont want this ask to be so long cause i can go in about every little detail 😭 but youve dont such an amazing job. The world building is beautiful, and i dont rly read a lot of scifi like fictions set in space, but when i first got into ateez the first thing i thought of were pirates / space pirates and i even started my own fic with that premise bc i cant help myself but be self indulgent trash so 🤷🏼‍♀️ but thats beside the point

I cant wait to read more of this masterpiece and see how things go. I want everyone to be happy cause you are putting them through the fucking ringer 😭😭😭 please go easy on them I cant take more of this 😭😭😭😭

hehe emotional whiplash is my specialty!!! i too am very much damaged after writing moc. and the damage will continue. for the good of the plot!!!

i'm so touched you think so, i really love evoking emotion out of the reader in my works and i'm glad that im effective in doing so <3 one of my goals from the start of writing moc was to create an mc who isn't always likable or enjoyable to read bc i find those sorts of stories unrealistic and sometimes boring, because even tho the setting is very much not real, having characters who do feel real has always been huge to me! i love creating characters who have peaks and valleys, who grow and stumble along the way, and to really show a journey of growth!! hongjoong is just. pure insanity at its finest LOL he's gonna take a lot to fix but we'll see!

i honestly had way too much fun writing that chapter too, i love love looooooove a good hatefuck and it was just too tempting to NOT do >.<

it was fully intentional to sort of bring the readers in on the manipulation yes hehe! i like playing my cards very close to my chest and not giving anything away until the absolute last second i can!!! i think you hit on something lots of people who want her to just give into hongjoong forget - she's experienced so much betrayal from the people she trusted most and that does really stick in the brain and cause lasting trauma, and our poor mc is deeply traumatized by many things that have happened to her! it only makes sense for her to be retaliating and distrustful of those around her in these circumstances!!

There had to be something wrong with your programming, right? I mean you know it's not normal for you to be this aware of your place in this establishment. What was the word? Having autonomy? Perhaps the correct term is sentience? You understood you were made of metal, you understood you were created to entertain, but you had feelings. At first, it was simple things like being able to feel pain when someone hit you. That eventually evolved into emotional feelings like happiness, sadness, and anger. Then more complicated feelings came, distrust, grief, and jealousy. So now here you are battling the biggest emotion you've ever come across. Your love and attraction to Freddy.

It had started when he'd smiled and pat your head, using that same superstar line he always did. Yet something was different, you shied away from him at the action. Your insides were abuzz with too much energy at the simple happiness. What was he doing to you? At first, you thought nothing of it. That was until it became a massive problem. You performed as his backup vocals so you saw him constantly and that only made things worse. At some point, you’d even start to try and avoid him. The feeling of every single wire in your body lighting up like a Christmas tree made your head spin. I mean you don't even know if Freddy is capable of these feelings too! What if it's one-sided? What if you're confusing this feeling and it's not love? What if you're just overreacting and there's a glitch in your software? For those reasons alone you decided you'd never tell Freddy how you felt.

Though your avoidance of him didn't go unnoticed. He watched the way you shrunk when he stepped into a room, the way you seemed to step back if he got within a certain range of you. How your neck had developed a nervous twitch every time he looked you directly in the eye. Honestly, he thought you were mad at him, or possibly just uncomfortable. He couldn't understand why. He couldn't remember upsetting you?

“You're free now, are you not?” Your eyes widened as the massive bear looked down at you. Do you lie?

“I am, you know I don't do much after shows.” No, no you wouldn't lie to Freddy. You'd just play it cool.

“Good, may I speak to you outside?” He tilted his head towards the door leading away from the backstage.

“Sure.” You were nervous. I mean obviously, the one person you held any sort of intense feelings for had asked you to talk. What if he knew? Oh you might just blow a fuse. You followed him put into the hallway, standing to the side of him awkwardly for a moment as he thought of what to say.

“Have I upset you in anyway?”

“What?”

“Youve been avoiding me.” He turned his head to look down at you. He seemed genuinely upset, a small whine clinging to the back of his words. It sounded like a mix between a soft hiss and a whistle, that couldn't be good for his voice box. Not that you were any better as your voice hissed in return.

“I don't know what you mean-”

“Yes you do, you know you've been avoiding me. Your ears drooped when I said it.” Damn your ears! How they betray your thoughts and spill your feeling out!

“Look Freddy I'm not angry with you.”

“Then why have you been avoiding me?”

“Well, I don't know.”

“You don't like to look me in the eyes, you twitch and grow stiff when I enter a room, your ears stand at full attention when I speak. Do I frighten you?” You felt as though the world had stopped. Was he really that worried about you? He noticed all that?

“Of course not! You're not frightening in anyway.”

“Then why are you reacting as though you're scared?”

“It's not fear.” You said that and watched the way he began to process this new information, eyebrows knitting together. You waited until finally, his eyes glowed and he looked back down at you.

“You're not angry, you're not scared, yet you jump and turn away when I enter a room. It's not that there's anything wrong with me, it's another of your feelings. Isn't it.” You nod but make no mistake, you have thousands of words to say. Your insides feel as though they're overheating the longer you stay quiet and if it kept going you might damage something.

“What feeling is it?”

“I don't know,” your voice box let's out a hiss and sounds as though there's bubbles and water caught in your throat.

“Its love.” If you could jump out of your shell and run you would.

“W-What?”

“Its love, isn't it? That's why you won't look me in the eyes.” You can almost feel yourself melt into a puddle.

“Hey, Hey. You have to calm down. You'll send yourself into a frenzy. You don't want to be in maintenance all night, right superstar?” You nod as he cups your face and you don't turn away, allowing him to touch you for the first time in weeks. He was oddly, cold? Comforting? Comforting. He was comforting.

“Thank you.”

“Of course, I love you.”

“What? Do you- I mean- do either of us know what that means?”

“Well, no, but if I had to find out what it meant with anyone. I'd like for it to be you.” Okay so maybe you were indeed going to spend the night in maintenance. He can't just say that as if you won't overheat!

But I will not support yaoi obsessed fangirls that make a compelely different story when clearly there are two happy families that youre trying to ruin just because you want to see two guys together. Can you not read? Have you not seen the anime? And like I said with the other one SS also is happily married it is all canon AND BESIDES THAT they have a daughter. If you say and you claim that, that you like these characters so much, then stop making them look so bad. They go from happy husbands to mean cheaters because yaoi girls are horny.

Man I hate to do this, because in no way do I like to be this negative, and you messaging me telling me what I can or cannot draw, I can still easily ignore. I don't know what I said about Sarada/Gaiden, but I have an idea.. so if you must know: yes, I am in fact studying creating a manga. Yeah, that says jack-shit- I’ll get to the point.

I’ve been obsessively studying story/world/character building ever since 2020 when I decided to learn how to draw in order to create my own web-manga, but I’ve been completely ignorant then, thinking that learning that was all I needed to do.

The way you set-up your panels, the flow in which the reader goes through your story, how you carefully pick out every single word of your characters and give anything you see, objects, gestures, composition, expressions.. all are equally as important! (If not more.) Then there are parallels and recurring themes, little hints and details.. the pace. It all matters.

Keep all I said before in mind and in short, Gaiden screams: “Sarada’s very existence is probably (partly) science based and Karin is in any case involved. Perhaps Orochimaru too. Also, they all look guilty, distressed and obviously are keeping secrets about the way she’s conceived/born and there is no proof SS are even married.” The recurring theme from Naruto to Gaiden however still is “connection” and “bonds”.

That’s just a fact. Canon Manga-wise. Same with everything SNS.

Now whether that eventually is the case or not we don’t know, we’ll have to wait. However, we don’t call the author: ‘Kishimoto-sensei’ for no reason. The man’s a genius as he forces us at times to read studiously in order to pick up the complex, though very obvious allegory within the Naruto-verse. He completely makes use of the previously mentioned manga potentials as expressive tools in order to deliver in my opinion the most beautiful narrative between two people ever written as well as darker themes which on the surface may seem like “just an easy-to-read shonen story.”

If you’re going to lecture me on storytelling, then in turn, I’d like to recommend you to look into Allegories in Literature. If you understand this method of writing and you would take off your NH/SS goggles then you might come to know what I mean. Meh, a little far-fetched to ask of you, but I still have hope.

But anyway, Kishimoto implying the Sarada thing in Gaiden and then in the end doing a complete 180 would be..

..well, maybe a repetition of Chapter 700 of Naruto. Defying all storytelling rules, dropping it all in the bin, rapidly diminishing, as if he suddenly forgot he was creating Naruto for a large part of his life.

It wouldn’t make any goddamn sense. But it can happen.

I would hold your ignorant hand to test my own patience and walk you through it, but there are people already who have made very insightful posts pointing out most of the things I had in mind. I would leave links, however I'm sure you’d go harass them also, so go look for it yourself if you must, but keep your shitty opinions to yourself. (Again.. I have hope!!)

NOT ONE SNS fan cares about your silly “they’re married” or “it’s in the novel (fancy fanfiction, you mean)” arguments, trust me. In fact, I can guarantee you that there is nothing you can come up with that’ll make any of us sprinkle some value on your hunched over form as you proudly gush out Viz Media’s latest marketing plans that keeps your little shipping heart temporarily happy.

It’s like stopping a stranger on the street and creepily whisper to them that “water’s wet” and expect them to be so enlightened that they’ll follow you around and join you behind your stalker tree for support.

Idk if you’ve seen Attack on Titan, but this is what you remind me of.

carrie fisher, gillian flynn, cormac mccarthy, ocean vuong, mary oliver, stephen graham jones, jeff vandermeer and john darnielle (yes this is the mountain goats and he just released a new book this year)

jeff vandermeer's southern reach trilogy is like... one of my all time faves. my favorite horror, definitely. stephen graham jones writes some good horror as well, and so does john darnielle. carrie fisher is an excellent story-teller and always keeps a bit of humor in everything she writes. gillian flynn has the most interesting characters, most of whom are not good people. cormac mccarthy has a very distinct style and author's voice and like flynn he writes very interesting characters. his books typically scratch my western itch. ocean vuong has the most beautiful prose and his writing sticks with you for weeks, months, years. mary oliver is my favorite poet :-)

i don't read a lot of fantasy, i typically get my fantasy fix through video games but i'll recommend the books of the underrealm again, the series and publisher focus on diversifying the fantasy genre. i'm still reading a cloak of red which has been quite fun. priory of the orange tree is another fantasy book (not a part of the underrealm) that has been on my to read list forever... one day i will read it </3

unfortunately i don't do a lot of reading these days. i have a lot of to read book piles in my room, and none of them are getting any smaller.... 😔 there are a lot of newer authors i really want to read but just haven't.

also i asked my friend @nyehilismwriting and they have some recs, too!

- blindsight by peter watts (super in depth speculative scifi about first contact with an alien species, heavy on the science, written by a marine biologist but touches on various ideas of neuroscience, ecology, space travel, very tongue in cheek, beautiful turn of phrase, lots of very interesting concepts. also, vampires)

- children of ruin by adrian tchaikovsky (sequel to tchaikovsky's children of time which I also cannot rec enough: speculative scifi abt different types of intelligence with some really nice exploration of interpersonal relationships; children of ruin expands on everything that was good in the first book while introducing even more interesting characters and some horror aspects. very delicious)

- the calcutta chromosome by amitav ghosh (scifi/medical thriller mystery set in the near future, haven't finished this one but it's very interesting so far)

- the antelope wife by louise erdrich (dreamy horror/generational mystery ?? follows the lives of several generations of two native families from the american revolution down to modern times, alternates between surrealist horror and very gritty realism, beautifully written with some really interesting characters.)

#as an edgy teen i read a lot of kurt vonnegut and chuck palaihnuik as well #no idea how i would feel about their stuff reading it now lol #but i know for a fact palaihnuik's style influenced me #*palahniuk sorry #for better or worse...#i tend to like darker books that focus on heavy subjects #because i have issues lol #edit: i wrote stephen graham jones' name wrong fml #also i should have said mccarthy and darnielle are both like. polarizing in my experience #some ppl really love their writing and some ppl really hate it lol #ask #unbreakablehorselegs

You’d be in a shop together looking around and he’ll tap your shoulder, showing you a lace shirt that you instantly fall in love with

It’s just your style!

You’d ask him how he knew you would like it, to which he would simply mumble with, “you told me a few months ago that you like shirts like this.”

But at the same time on those late night after-practice dates he just wants to make sure that you’re not staying up too late all the time just to make sure he’s doing okay after practice, his y/nnie needs their sleep too ):

as for dates, to me he seems the type to be into really spontaneous and random things!! He’d love going somewhere fun or just simply randomly travelling with you without a destination!

He especially loves to sneak out of the dorm late at night and meet you at you and his favourite park.

It’s located at the top of a really tall hill, and you’ll both spend hours sitting on the swings, chatting away with little care for the rest of the world or the time as you both simply giggle at each other’s jokes and contentedly talk about anything and everything; watching the city lights glow from hundreds of metres below you

He’d offer you his jacket when the temperature drops by a few degrees suddenly

You’d be like no!! It’s okay you should also stay warm, I’m okay 🥺

But then because he is such a sweetheart he’d huff and sit next to you on the swing, making the single-seater far too cramped as he tries to supply you with his body heat if that’s the only way that you’ll accept not freezing to death 😠

But then you’ll both slip due to there not being enough space for both of you on the wing, and your both fall flat down on your butts lmao

You’d both freeze, staring at each other blankly on the floor

but then you’d both crack up and laugh for the longest time — hushing each other in-between giggles from the fear of maybe you were being a bit too loud and could wake some people up?

But then you’d both fall into giggling messes once again as you blame each other for causing the other to fall down ):

You’d eventually sit together huddled on a bench, sitting in silence and simply staring out at seoul’s twinkling night lights as you share his leather jacket: heavy and warm as it drapes across you and his’ shoulders

But eventually you’d both finally head home! — your eyelids soon growing too heavy and both of you afraid of accidentally falling asleep at a park at 1am lmfao

idk why but i can just see a lot of late-night dates with jake,, such as

baking cookies together at 1am???? probably has happened twice already in your relationship aha 😁

honestly you both spend so much time together casually that you end up arguing on whether that time where he randomly showed up at your house wanting to make relationship bracelets together was really a date or not lmao

he will pick out a selection of items he thinks will look good on you, and - to admit it to himself: he does a pretty good damn job

Since you both go to the same school, a lot of your little dates are actually spent there

He’s pretty shy with you at times,, but when you’re both alone it’s then that dates with him are usually so so goofy and silly; days filled with his teasing and your eye rolls and giggles.

Meeting at the rooftop before school to simply talk and giggle and drink chocolate milk? Yes.

Staying after school for small study sessions in the library? Yes.

With jungwon, you’re not able to see him as much between school and him being an idol, so every little moment together means so much to both of you ):

“mr. stark, i am so sorry, the school closed because some kid set fire to the science lab and i didn’t have time to find a sitter—”

pepper was really happy!! it was a pretty cool family

you dont get to tell me that representation doesnt matter when im crying over cemetery boys because its the first book ive ever read with a trans main character. i didnt realize how much this book would mean to me. because ive never had that in books or any media.

it is so fucking important that young kids have characters and stories that they can relate to and see themselves in because previous queer generations didnt have this. im still very young and part of a generation that is being exposed to more representation, and even i didnt see any queer characters until late middle school.

so when i see a character talking about things like his family deadnaming and misgendering him, wearing a binder and being uncomfortable without it, and not feeling confident enough to even use the correct bathroom, i think, “hey, i feel those things. i experience these things. i resonate with these things.” and i want all young lgbtqia kids to have that feeling because its the fucking best thing in the world.

He ignored it. It wasn’t real, someone was just pranking him. A demon? That's absolutely ridiculous. He went about his life as normal, mining, building, and repeating. There was a routine to it that he somewhat appreciated. He would fly over to the ocean on occasion, or the swamp. He would help his allies when they needed help, and then he would assume business as normal. The vines someone kept building around his palace didn’t really bother him, so he left them be. There weren’t that many anyways, not in comparison to the other empires.

So whatever. He really didn’t understand why everyone else was so concerned. There was no reason to panic, he insisted to his friends. No reason to panic when a messenger sprinted into his palace, talking much too fast for it to be a normal message between kingdoms. No reason to panic at all. Especially not when they say something about the ocean kingdom being overtaken. She's fine. The demon isn't real. There's no reason to panic.

He wasn’t panicking as he excused himself from the room, as he stumbled outside and took off in the direction of his wife’s kingdom. He wasn't panicking as he saw the lily pads and houses and palace below him, all covered in corruption. He wasn’t panicking when he saw her collapsed on the floor of her palace, covered in red vines.

A week later he walks into a completely different castle, in a land of flowers, not coral.

“How can I help?” he asks, tired and filled with grief, now unable to enjoy the bliss that comes with ignorance.

"I'm so fucking happy you're okay meuf!!" Jo says as she arrives with Max and Sekou at the hippodrome. She jumps up and hugs Lola, clinging on to her for way to long. For the past hour it was just lola, Elliot and the gang there, preparing everything for the movie showing, but now other people had started to show up, including the girl gang, some of elliot's college friends (Elliot actually had friends! Lola never doubted it. How could he not?) and, of course, lamif.

Lola was very happy to see the three of them and she couldn't stop smiling. After Jo finally let go she spotted Elliot and jumped on to him as well, as Max smiled at Lola shyly and gave her a warm hug. "It's so good to see you", he said. "I really hope you're doing better". Lola smiled and they let go and she gave him a smile as it was Sekou's turn for a hug. Jo let go of Elliot and started blabbing about him and his movie and that Friday and how excited she was to work with him, without noticing behind her that Arthur, Basile and Yann were staring at this weird girl that was obviously obsessed with Elliot, while Lucas was standing next to them laughing and exchanging looks with Elliot, who was laughing too.

"What the fuck is happening, man?" Yann asked Lucas and the other too looked at him, waiting for an answer.

"Elliot has a fan!" Lucas said happily. "She's a friend of Lola's. I think they met threw the urbex thing".

"Oh, that's right!" Bas said. "Daphne told me something about that too! So she's a friend of Maya as well?"

"Wait.. Who is Maya? What is the urbex thing?" Asked a very confused Arthur. "Gosh, I feel like I've missed everything because of the fucking bac!"

They laughed. "It's okay man! It's all over now and we get to chill." said Yann and put an arm around Lucas and Arthur that were sitting next to him on each side.

"Exactly! And now, that you're gonna be an amazing and brilliant graphic designer, everything will be amazing and we'll never miss a thing again!" Baz said and hugged Arthur.

Elliot walked towards the gang with Jo still babbling walking behind him and Max, Sekou and Lola, laughing while following them.

"So!" said Elliot, excited. "Max, Sekou, Jo, this is Yann, Arthur, Baz, and Lucas, my boyfriend. Guys, these are the kids that helped me with the filming-"

Elliot wasnt able to finish his sentence as Jo's screaming interrupted him.

"LUCAS!!" she screamed and jumped on him, hugging him very tight. "You have no idea how much I've heard about you!! You're, like, a legend! I was really jealous of you in the beginning, but after Elliott's stories I love you!" she said and continued talking while the rest of them laughed. Baz got up and looked at Sekou and Max, with his weird fake strict look.

" So, mecs! You are friends of Lola, right?" he said, as the other two nodded. "Well, you know who I am, right?" he asked, and they shook their heads. "What??" he said, disappointed. "Well, I'm like, Lola's official older brother. I'm dating her sister, you see. Ah, look there", he pointed, " the beautiful one with the long, blonde hair. So, if you ever mess with Lola.." he looked at them seriously, "I probably can't take you, let's be real, but look at my gang over here, we are ninjas and we'll find you!! Check de gang, mecs!" He said and the gang ignored him. Lola laughed and she though Basil's and Jo would be so much fun as friends. " Thanks, big bro" she said jokingly and Baz looked at her with so much love in his eyes that he immediately needed a hug, even though he waited for Lola to nod a yes. They hugged tightly, and when they let go Basile almost had literal tears in his eyes.

After that, Lola let the gang and la mif mix and walked towards her sister, who was chatting with her friends.

"Salut!" Lola said. "How are you girls?"

"oh, meuf, we were just talking about how Manon and Charles broke up!" Emma said.

"Emma! You can't tell this to everyone! It literally just happened!" Alexia said.

"it's okay, it's okay!" Manon interrupted. "It was a long time coming. Like, a long,long time. I tried to ignore all the shitty things that he said or did, because I was so in love with him. But in the end, it wasn't worth it. The love faded away and his true colours were just more and more obvious. And I completely lost sight of who I am all this time. He literally stands for everything I hate. I thought that I was in the wrong for so long, that I had my standards too high, but I just couldn't do it anymore. So I'm actually really relieved, and really happy". She smiled.

"that's great, Manon." Emma said. "I mean, sad, but great. You should just be happy.

"Yeah! And if he doesn't make you happy, then fuck him! I never liked him anyway", Imane said.

"Anyway, can we talk about you trip to Morocco?' said Manon to Imane. "Are you excited?"

"So excited! I can't wait" Imane said and smiled at Sofianne who was looking at her from a few meters away.

"Can we also talk about Alexia?" Daphne said. "Our brilliant, multi talented girl! Lola, did you know she is taking a gap year, travelling the world, because the girl is too good at too many things to decide right now what she wants to do?"

Alexia smiled and blushed a little. "Oh, stop it!"

"No, girl, that's really cool!" Lola said. "Are you traveling alone?"

"Yeah, mostly. I just really need to see other cultures and places, meet new people, you know? Get inspired. Emma, who is also kinda lost, though in a different way, is gonna come to a couple of places with me, and these other ones are gonna visit some times, and Arthur will probably come to a place or to at some point. He also wants to travel."

"oh, Arthur? Didn't you guys use to date?" Lola asked.

Alexia smiled. "Yes, and it ended in a disaster. Honestly, I'll always love him, you know? Even if it is just as a friend. But who knows? Maybe everyone deserves a second chance. But also, how cool would it be if I got myself an international girlfriend?" The girls laughed and Daphne pulled Lola aside to talk.

"How are you doing today?" she asked Lola.

"Better", she replied. "Taking it slow, you know? I actually cannot wait to meet my new therapist, which is weird for me. But I think I'm ready. Ready to talk. Ready to take all the help I can get."

Daphne smiled. "I'm really proud of you, Lola."

"that's bullshit. You have nothing to be proud. All I have done so far is create problems. With you, with Maya, with Lucas, with Elliot.. I literally run away, like, a few days ago".

"Yeah, but did you see anyone mad at you? Nobody is mad at you, Lola. Sure, you have done some things that weren't great. But youve apologised and we understand. It's okay. We're all here for you. You know I'm not perfect either. But as long as you're staying strong, I'll stay strong."

"You are the strongest person I've ever met".

"I'm not that strong. But having you helps a lot. And I also wanted to tell you something else. I finally went to the therapist."

"That's great! That's amazing! Daphne, I'm so happy for you."

"thanks. It was hard, I'm not going to lie. But I had to. I've been avoiding this for way too long. And just having Basile cook for me is not enough", she said and laughed. Lola looked at her lovingly and she hugged her tight. "I love you", she whispered.

"I love you too, Lola" Daphne whispered back.

That's when Daphne spotted Maya coming through in crowd and let go of Lola. Lola followed Daphne's eyes and she saw Maya. Her heart started beating a little faster and her face was covered in a smile she couldn't hide.

"Go to her", said Daphne.

Lola smiled at her sister and walked towards her girlfriend.

"Salut!" said Maya, smiling.

"Thanks for coming", said Lola, and she wrapped her hands behind Maya's neck, kissing her.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world!" Maya said smiling, after they let go. "Your cinematic debut! You're gonna be a huge star one day!"

Lola laughed and kept looking at her.

"Listen, Maya. I know we didn't get to talk that much the other day because you were working, but I just want you to know that I don't want you to ever be with me because you feel sorry for me or whatever. And also I just want you to know that I know that I've hurt you, and I'm really, really sorry for everything. But I'm trying, and I'm gonna try even harder to be better, to do better. But I'm not always going to be perfect. There's probably gonna be times that I slip up, and that I fuck up, and I'm gonna be shit again and I could hurt you again. It's never my intention to do so, but I don't know if I can always control it. So I want to apologise in advance, and I just want to say that, if you can't stay with me during the bad times, it's totally understandable! But maybe we shouldn't do this at all, then".

Maya looked lovingly at Lola, the girl she had a crush on the fucking day she first met her. She smiled.

"You know, mon amour, I know some things about these stuff. I understand. And even if I don't understand everything, I would love for you to explain things for me, only if you want. And I've fucked up too, I shouldn't have ghosted you, I shouldn't have been with Char and I shouldn't have left that day you broke up with me since you clearly weren't okay. And I'm not with you because I feel sorry for you! I'm with you because I'm in love with you. Fuck, I'm crazy for you. I fell in love with you the second I saw you walking down those stairs that day we met, and I just kept falling more and more ever since. And I promise, I'm not gonna leave you when things go wrong. I swear. No matter how bad they get. Unless you,like, cheat on me or something". She laughed.

Lola laughed too. "You don't have to worry about that. I could never even look at anybody else when I'm with you".

They both smiled at each other.

"So we're good?"asked Maya.

"Yes. We're good" Lola said and Maya hugged her.

Elliot and Lucas where looking at the girls from a distance, smiling. Elliot was feeling so unbelievably proud.

"Did you do this? Did you get them back together?" Lucas asked.

"No! No no no" Elliot answered. "Okay, maybe I helped a little" he continued, smiling happily.

Lucas smiled and stepped on his tiptoes to wrap his arms around Elliots neck and kiss him on the cheek.

"You know, I'm really proud of you", he said.

Elliot blushed. "Oh, come on! What did I do?'

"Are you serious? You wrote a movie, you filmed it, you directed it, you star in it, you have your first ever official showing tonight! As if that's not enought for me to be proud of?"

"Okay, I guess that's true", he answered smiling. Then his smile got smaller. "But I disappointed you last week".

Lucas stopped smiling as well. "I'm not disappointed, my love. You could never disappoint me. I knew from the beginning that things like that could happen. And you didn't do anything that bad! I'm not disappointed in you. I'm not mad at you. I was just, really, really worried. And scared. But it turned out that you were okay, so I'm okay. Do I wish you wouldn't have gotten drunk? Of course. Do I wish you hadn't attack that security guy? Of course. Do I wish you would have called me before everything happened so I would at least have known about it? Also of course. But it happened. I was just mad at Lola, but I'm not anymore. She apologized and she knows she shouldn't have treated you that way. And she was in a really bad place. But she also can't be held responsible for your actions, only for hers. And you are the one that should or should not be mad at her."

Elliot sighed. "Well, I'm still sorry, Lucas. I hate worrying you, especially in the middle of your bac. And it's not all her fault. I was just insecure and she stepped on those insecurities. It just... sucks to be different sometimes, you know? It sucks to feel like people expect me to fuck up, all the time. It sucks to feel like I'm nothing more than my mental illness, you know?"

Lucas took his hand. "You know that I don't see you that way, right? You are not your mental illness to me, Elliot."

"I know, and I'm sorry that I doubted you in that moment. I'm really lucky that I have you in my life" he said and Lucas smiled and kissed him.

"I'm also and yet again really sorry that I didn't tell you about urbex earlier" Elliot mumbled after the kiss.

Lucas laughed. "Okay, I was mad about that. But Im over it know. Just, don't lie to me again, like, ever. Okay?"

"I promise", Elliot replied, and they kissed again.

Everyone was dancing and talking and laughing and Elliot was so happy when he saw Idriss and his friends walk in. They hugged and laughed and chatted. Everyone greeted them and Imane and Lucas found themselves alone together.

"So, is everything well?" Imane asked.

Lucas sighed. "Yes, now, everything is fine. Finally. Chill. No bac, no more angsty best friends losing their hearing and cheating on their girlfriends, no more boyfriend getting drunk with a 16 year old. Hopefully they learned their lesson and will both get better."

Imane smiled. Lucas turned to her.

"What about you, miss future-doctor? Going to fucking Morocco with your habibi, then what? You'll start med school, you'll get married? How is everything going for you?"

Imane laughed. "Well, I can't complain. The bac was very difficult, let's be real. But now I'm really excited", she said, while staring at Sofianne who was chatting with Idriss and Elliot.

Lucas looked at them too. Then he looked at imane. "Who would have thought, right? The gay guy and the Muslim girl, best friends, while dating a non Muslim guy and his best friend".

"We are not best friends!" Imane answered while laughing.

"Fuck that! You are definitely my number one girl best friend" Lucas said.

"Okay, okay. If it's like that, then you're my number one boy best friend too."

They smiled at each other and they heard Elliot yelling "Okay, everyone! Movie is starting! Take a seat!"

Everyone sat in front of the screen. Daphne next to basile, holding hands. Next to them was Sofianne with Imane, then Yann next to his girl best friend, Emma, then Alexia and Arthur, and then Mika and Camille who had also showed up for the film, next to them Noee with her new girlfriend. They were both friends with Arthur and Alexia. Lucas and Elliot where sitting next to the projector, Elliot being extremely nervous but Lucas holding his hand, trying to calm him down. The la mif guys were really excited to see what they had created, but they were also really excited to see Lola and Maya together for the first time. They were teasing them lovingly and they were all grinning. Lola had now rested her head on Maya's shoulder, while Maya was excited to watch her girlfriend in the big screen.

All of the grew were kind of sad and melancholic, thinking about this being one of the last times they'd all be together. But they were all really excited about the future and the new adventures it held for them.

Look at bert’s head! It’s about to explode with fury. He’s soooo mad! Oh no.... Bert, will have..... your.... ass..... No. because Bert would never do that. Bert is a loving guy, but he’s reached his limit, as a lot of us do from time to time. Bert gave Ernie ALL of his power. He allowed ernies antics to affect him negatively. What Ernie did? Who knows. Probably swindled Bert out of the bigger piece of pizza, and more grape drink. He does that a lot...

Ernie is a bit inconsiderate like that, or, Ernie is needy, and wants attention from Bert, and Bert is into his own thing, Either way, Ernie doesn’t mean to act like a mindless, thoughtless Turkey culo. He wants love, like we all do. Unfortunately, it’s coming off really inconsideratly. Sometimes, when it’s not you that’s the one being annoyed, it can be hilarious. But let’s put ourselves in each of their positions for a minute...

Bert, does NOT look happy. He looks mad, yes, but also, hurt, upset, not appreciated, not understood, not cared for. Bert, is a perpetual victim of Ernie’s naughty business. Bert can also tend to like things the way he likes them. Kinda an immobile, guy. Maybe a guy that takes himself too seriously, too sensitive, with no sense of humor. BUT, regardless, Bert deserves love, and respect, and consideration even though Ernie doesn’t always show it in the way Bert appreciates. Does that mean Ernie doesn’t love Bert? Not sure. Are they in a serious codependent relationship of abuse? Could be. Or are they in a mutual friendship that somehow works for the both of them? It all depends on your perception.

Let’s take in Ernie for a bit. Ernie, is a purveyor of glad tidings, fun and joy. On the flip side, Ernie has a ton of energy, and doesn’t flow outside of his own desires in the moment very well. Some would say, “Ohhhh... That Ernie... all he cares about is fun, and play, and singing, and dancing, and his rubber ducky, and he’s messy, and carefree, and doesn’t listen to Bert at all. What an Turkey culo!! But Ernie does care about how he, and others like Bert, feel. And he wants to break Bert out of his comfort zone, and have a little fun with his best friend. How you view them, is irrelevant to them, but means everything to you. Because they are not affected by you in the least. They’re muppets. But the energy that they bring up in you, is very very real.

Ernie and Bert are facets of these 2 men: Jim Henson, who played Ernie, and Frank Oz, who still maybe I dunno, periodically plays Bert. But, they created these characters. And they evolved over time, both the characters, and the men.

I heard an interview where frank oz was discussing the character of Bert. At first, bert was a conundrum. He was boring. But frank oz, in his genius, made boring, fun! Well, Bert may be boring, but he loves it! He is the single most boring guy in the world, and loves what he loves; bottle caps, and pigeons named Bernice, and paper clips, and plain soda water. Bert celebrates his boringness to the hilt! I used to not get Bert at all when I was a kid. Bert?! You’re into boring....everything! But now that I’m older, I finally appreciate Bert, and his love of the mundane, cause he’s so into it. And frank and Jim, got it too, and they shared it with me, and all the other kids my age and beyond. Celebrate people not just for their similarities, but their differences too. And if you don’t celebrate their differences, at the very least accept the person, and love them anyway.

Ernie gives Bert a serious headache. So he cares for him, and makes sure he has his hot water bottle (still not quite sure what that does...) But no one can say Ernie doesn’t care, or they can, but they’d be wrong to me, because Ernie, in his own selfish jerk way to some, cares a lot. And I sometimes appreciate him for it. Bert resigns himself to it a lot too, cause after all, both of these characters come from a place of love, and devotion to one another.

Mr. hooper: We’re not on Sesame Street right now, we’re in Kari’s blog, so it’s fine, cause she’s the one swearing, not me, as I, am dead, as I/she stated above. Alight, boys, what I’m trying to say is this; can you please, for once and for all, be more considerate of one another’s feelings and maybe just maybe get back to the love? I’m over all this bickering.

Ernie: yeah Bert, I was trying to tell you that...

Bert: yeah Ernie, but at some point you have to back up your words with the proper actions. How many times have I told you that?! And you ignore me!

George Carlin: Kari, did you her all that?

Kari: yes. Oh man. I’ve been read by Ernie and Bert. Ok, my intention for writing on my blog is not to hurt anyone at all with my POV, but to be honest about my feelings, in love. I try not to be a mean passive aggressive person. I sometimes can be, but I’m trying to clean up my side of the street with that. And I do feel like I am friendless, but it’s because I’m hurt, and don’t feel loved or appreciated sometimes. That’s what it all comes down to, really.

Carlin: ok, clearly you need some time to sort this out. So I’ll leave us with this. I love you. You are a very kind, imaginative woman, who cares about people. I will allow you to sit in hurt as long as you need to. Just know that anytime you’re ready to join the world again, I’ll be there to support you. Some of these people are gone for good, and that’s ok, but some still care, and may want to work it out when the time comes. You’ll see when you’re ready.

Kari: thanks George. I love you too. And I will go and get a piece of almond Kringle now, cause I love O & H kringles (1) a lot, and give you the bigger piece!

hey there! welcome to tumblr! its so lovely that youre thinking about writing and joining the community. thats so exciting! im uncertain if you mean writing like...in general just writing, or if you mean posting your writing? it feels like in both cases its more blog creation and getting the work out there than it is writing?

i will say - thank you for these wonderful compliments to my style! this is so sweet i am so so happy you enjoy my writing (in the case of the second ask) however the first and most important bit of advice i could give anyone is ~

=> do not try to write like anyone other than yourself. its true the more you read the more your vocabulary grows, the more you get inspired, the more you will experiment with ‘voice’ in your writing. and thats good! thats how you develop your own style. the more you write the more your voice gets honed, your style develops.

if you try to write like someone else it might feel fine at first, but honestly thats not sustainable. you are starting to write because you have a story to tell, and no one can tell that story as you can. if someone else were to do it, yes it could be the same plot and same narrative, but the experience of being in that world and the interacting between the characters will be wildly different. no one can tell a story as you can, so honor your own style. it does not exist anywhere else but in you.

but yeah as for creating a blog and posting your writing i really think its easy to get caught up in the notion of notes and followers, especially here. the only places ive ever written fic are here, livejournal way back when that was a thing, and AO3. and the only site where ive seen a focus on follower count or note count has been here. so keep the following in mind: everyone starts at 0 followers.

ive been here for three years and while i can say, yeah, notes and followers are nice - there is no logical reason behind those numbers so its best to ignore them. someone can follow you and unfollow you - and that is fine because thats a choice entirely up to them. it is out of your control. sometimes tags dont work so less people might see your story. that is out of your control. sometimes one story does really well note wise and the other doesnt gain as much traction - yet another thing out of your control.

these are numbers you have absolutely no power over, so they do not deserve to control your power. the more you feed into the metrics and the stats, the less fun writing becomes. so please, please, dont walk into posting your blog with the hope of achieving some number that an algorithm decides. post your stories for fun. because they make you happy.

ive found that writing on tumblr is a direct experience of the quote ‘if you build it they will come.’ i am by no means an enormously large blog, but over time ive carved out a community of readership and everyone in it makes me insanely happy. just write to have a good time. people will sense that energy and come and read and they, too, will have a good time with you.

and another bit for starting your blog - if you want to start, just start! like really, it is that simple. if youre wanting this, then youve kind of already decided for yourself that you want to be here, in the fandom, sharing the ideas in your head. and that, more than anything, is a powerful experience. i think, for me at least, writing fanfiction is a method of connecting with my inner child; any hobby is a method of play, and we are happier and healthier as people when we do the things we want to do. if you want this, do it. trust me, it will makes you so happy.

when it comes to posting your works, theres some general advice thats good too. make sure you warn adequately for triggers; tag your story well so it can be found in searches. joining networks is a great way to get your work out there AND to make some friends. every network ive ever been in has a discord or a kkt group chat and some of my closest friends have been found through those networks.

the rest youll learn over time. the more you write, the more you interact (as with anything, what you put out is what you will receive), the more you spend time growing into the site, your blog will change and evolve and your writing/posting style will change. again some things cant change - again, warning for triggers, ensuring people can see your word count and the pairing, etc - but youll figure out how you want things to look as you go. that, too, is the fun of writing.

Hi Mllemaenad! I was just reading one of your posts on Tranquility (this one: /post/151051248435/youve-frequently-written-to-a-really-brilliant) and there is one thing I take issue with. You say that the Seeker Rite of Tranquility is "crude" and that Wynn had no need of such "nonsense", but let's remember that Wynn was contacted by a Spirit of Faith after a Near Death event. That's hardly a safe or reliable method, had the spirit not visited her, she'd be dead! Tranquility is (relatively) safer.

Okay, for reference, because that’s a post from 2016 and I didn’t remember what it was about either, this is what I said:

No one has investigated this and established that Tranquillity is good for its victims. Kind of the opposite, actually. While we don’t know exactly how they stumbled upon the idea, the earliest known use of the Rite of Tranquillity is as part of a Seeker initiation ritual. For the Seekers, the whole point of Tranquillity is the cure. It is a trial of faith: a crude way of making contact with a spirit of Faith (note that Wynne had no need of such nonsense, ‘sinful’ mage though she is; the spirit was drawn to her naturally). A Seeker who survives the Rite becomes a mage (I’m sure they’d object to that definition, but guess what, Cassandra, setting someone’s blood aflame is doing magic) without the social stigma associated with being born a mage. If you stay Tranquil, you’ve failed. You’re lost.

Your contention is that Wynne’s contact with the spirit is unsafe because it occurred at the point of death. Except ... that’s simply not true. Wynne has known that spirit her whole life.

Warden: Why did the spirit choose to help you?

Wynne: I have always had an affinity for the spirits of the Fade. As a child I never feared my dreams, because I knew they were there.

Warden: What about demons?

Wynne: I could sense the demons too, and their presence frightened me. It was the kindly spirits of the Fade that took the fear from me. I’ve always been able to feel the spirits, even if I never saw them. And as I nurtured my talent in the Circle, I became more sensitive. I began to notice, every time I was in the Fade, whether it was in a dream, or in magical practice, that I was being watched.

Warden: Do spirits watch people like that?

Wynne: I suppose they must. It is these benevolent spirits that create our dream worlds in the Fade. Sometimes I would see it ... a glowing, nebulous form. Most times I would just feel its presence – gentle and comforting, but somehow alien. I think it is a Spirit of Faith. They have never been seen before and perhaps I am wrong, but something tells me I’m not. It always felt like the same ... entity. This one spirit was curious about me and was ... guarding me, for want of a better word.

Warden: You mean it protected you?

Wynne: There were times, when I was in the Fade, that it seemed to stretch forth to shield me, keeping me safe. And I think it gave me strength in my most terrible battles, Ostagar being one of them.

Warden: And also in your fight with Petra’s demon.

Wynne: I don’t know why I was chosen. Perhaps it knew that there was something more that lay in store for me. I like to think that I was given a rare chance, and I’m going to make the best of the time so generously given to me.

This spirit of faith was Wynne’s close companion, her friend and her ally in many battles. It had aided and protected her on several previous occasions. Wynne’s possession, taking place just before the start of the Broken Circle quest, was a last ditch effort to save her life when nothing else would work, and the spirit chose to do that because it already knew her.

Yes: I’ll happily grant that being attacked by demons in the Fereldan Circle was not in itself safe, but Wynne was probably the safest person there. Certainly safer than the Tranquil mages you encounter being attacked by demons:

Tranquil: Thank you. That was an uncomfortable experience.

A hypothetical Tranquil Wynne would have lost contact with her spirit friend when her connection to the Fade was severed. Had she been in the Fereldan Circle in that condition there would have been no one to protect her, and she would likely have been tortured, forcibly possessed, or killed.

Wynne is a spirit healer, and notes that honing her skills made her better at perceiving and dealing with the denizens of the Fade. Likewise her son, Rhys, also a spirit healer, develops a close and unusual relationship with the spirit Cole. Anders, again, a spirit healer, has a close relationship with Justice that is largely hampered by his Circle-taught fear of becoming an ‘abomination’.

Mages, broadly, are good at dealing with spirits. ‘Spirit healers’, specifically, through honing that talent, are very good at it and tend to bond with specific spirits.

The Orlesian Empire, and its Chantry, needing people to oversee magic and deal with Fade-related crises when they arose, did not give this job to the people best suited to it – i.e. mages. Instead, they chose to create ‘mages’ who were not mages by inflicting a kind of magical brain damage on individuals without their knowledge or consent, and then just ... hoping that a spirit who did not know this random person would deign to reverse the damage.

They then used it to prevent actual mages from doing what they’re best at: dealing with the Fade. And along the way, they caused enormous trauma to numerous people in their care.

So nope: I stand by what I said. Tranquillity is a crude ritual for contacting a spirit of faith and terribly unsafe. It is ‘necessary’ only in the sense that Orlais has an intense prejudice against mages and has thus created workarounds to produce people with magical ability who don’t ‘count’ as mages (Seekers and Tranquillity; templars and lyrium) to police magic use and deal with demons.

Wynne’s way was infinitely safer. She just bonded with her spirit naturally. And it protected her from everything the world threw at her.
