FrUK FACE family Parent Trap AU, part 8! Part 1

Last time we left off, Tony had just returned and Matthew met “his” future stepdad. It was a shock to come face to face with Tony the way he did, but Mattie didn’t give himself away. He’s had plenty of practice dealing with curveballs by this point. So, they all sit down for breakfast and, afterwards, Matthew gets to witness Arthur and Antonio interact. Just ordinary domestic stuff. Mattie observes, and soon he can see what Alfred meant when he said that - although he likes Tony - he doesn’t think Tony and his dad are a good match. They get along, but there’s no passion. It’s almost like a business friendship, albeit an affectionate one. Tony is a nice guy and Mattie enjoys laughing at his jokes and chatting about ordinary, day-to-day things. So, no potential evil stepfather subplot here. But he still feels his stomach sink at the thought of what could happen in the future after he and Alfred swap back.

Can Matthew picture Arthur married to Tony? He can, but it’s not a picture that sits well with him.

What picture would sit well? Ah, isn’t that just the question. But one we’re not ready to answer. Yet

Meanwhile, Alfred is enjoying his time with Francis but Mattie’s jibe last time they talked is still niggling him. Alfred knows that he isn’t really a bad kid, but he does frustrate and exasperate Arthur. Lot’s of calls from teachers about talking in class and angry neighbours clutching baseballs and complaining about broken windows. Stuff like that. The thought of Arthur being happier with his more well behaved son? A son he won’t have to constantly excuse and apologise for? Yeah. Alfred no-likee. He’s well on his way to loving Matthew as a brother, but still. A little seed or resentment being planted? Maybe. Both twins have some complex feelings to deal with. I mean, on top of everything else going on with their situation, lol

Things go on as normal, until a few days later when Alfred comes home from school to find Uncle Gil waiting for him. Francis was called away last minute for work and so Gil is here to babysit. Alfred doesn’t mind. Gil is awesome! The two of them are ignoring Francis’s meticulously laid out instructions and making their own idea of food instead (“Hey, Uncle Gil, can we have a can of frosting for dinner?” “Sure, kid!”) when Gilbert casually brings up that his brother is getting married soon. In New York. Seems his fiance, an Italian expat, runs a restaurant there. Afterwards, Gil’s brother plans to move to New York permanently to live with his new spouse. Without thinking, Alfred starts enthusiastically talking about how great NYC is and how much Gilbert’s brother (Uncle Ludwig to Mattie) will love it there.

Alfred goes on and on about his home city for so long (homesickness nipping at the lad? Yep) that he doesn’t realise Gilbert has fallen silent and is just standing there, watching and listening. With an unreadable look on his face. Alfred trails off when Gilbert suddenly reaches out and tilts Alfred’s head, brushing his fingers behind his ear. Alfred is confused.

“Uncle Gil? What-?”

“You fell off the wall at the end of the garden when you were a kid,” Gilbert says. “Fell and cut yourself on a stone. Bled like a stuck pig and needed stitches. First time in hospital. Fran was having kittens. Think he cried more than you. Remember?”

Alfred feels his heart start to bang in his chest. Mattie never thought to tell him about that. It happened too long ago and they didn’t have time to go over everything. Alfred tries to sound confident when he replies:

“Yeah, yeah. I remember.”

“You do, huh? Like you remember New York?”

Alfred’s mouth is dry. The confidence is rapidly ebbing.

“I - y-yeah…”

“Weird, since you’ve never been.”

Alfred’s heart stops.

“I…I…”

Those red eyes bore into him.

“Or,” Gilbert says. “Should I say, Mattie’s never been. Or is that wrong now, too?”

Gilbert feels behind Alfred’s ear again, then takes his hand back. And stares Alfred down.

“No scar.”

Alfred can’t speak. He feels like he’s going to faint.

“Let me guess,” Gilbert says. “Alfred?”

When Louis gets invited along to Anne's wedding, Harry is prepared to let people think whatever they want about their relationship. That's what Louis said -- let people think whatever they want. That all changes when Louis sees his ex, who turns out to be Anne's future husband's son. Now, Louis wants to prove that he's an omega that an alpha could want, and Harry wants to get through this weekend without letting his best friend figure out he's in love with him.

They walk into the restaurant at 7:02pm, and are promptly guided down a set of stairs into the lower-level party room. 

From the doorway, Harry can see his mom and future stepdad, talking to a couple of younger guys – a dark-haired alpha and a blonde omega from the looks of it. They all laugh and his mom goes in to give one of them a hug while John clasps the other on the shoulder. That must be John’s son and the boyfriend Harry’s heard them talk about. 

Harry takes a deep breath, smoothes out his shirt, and reaches for Louis’ hand, ready to walk in and muscle his way through this weekend.

But Louis doesn’t take his hand. Instead, he grabs onto Harry’s wrist and yanks him in the opposite direction. 

“What?” Harry asks, stumbling a bit as he’s pulled. 

Louis doesn’t say anything, just gets to the restroom area and shoves Harry inside one of the single-room bathroom. 

“Ouch,” Harry says, shaking out his wrist. He watches Louis lock the door and whip around with wild eyes and frown lines etched into his face. “Louis, what the fuck? We’re already lat–”

“Will is here,” he says. 

Harry furrows his brows, unsure what that is supposed to mean. “Will…?”

“Will,” Louis says frustratedly. He looks to the door as he adds, “Will. My ex-boyfriend, Will. Will, who broke up with me after three months because he thought I was too loud and too clingy and too much.” He turns back around to Harry to emphasize, “Will!” 

Harry gasps. Ex-boyfriend Will, who refused to meet Harry because he didn’t like that Louis had an alpha best friend. “Dickhead Will?” 

“Dickhead Will,” Louis agrees. “Fuck. Fuck.” He reaches up and grabs fistfuls of his hair. 

What are the odds that Louis’ ex-boyfriend from Oakland is here in Sacramento now, working at the one restaurant where his mom’s rehearsal dinner is?

“Hey, it’s okay.” Harry steps close, and tries to pull Louis’ hands down from his hair, but they don’t budge. “We can ignore him, yeah? It’s just toni–”

“He was hugging your mom,” Louis interrupts. 

Harry is confused. He shakes his head immediately, ready to say that no, that was his future stepdad’s son – when it clicks.

“William,” Harry says.

“Yes,” Louis says, annoyed, finally pulling his hands down from his hair. “Will is often short for William. Very good, Harold.”

“No. John’s son is named William,” he explains. “He’s John’s best man. They’ve been talking about William and Dimitri – his boyfriend.”

Louis pales. “Jesus Christ.”

“Okay, it’s okay,” Harry says, looking around the room like the sink or toilet will tell him how to handle this. “We’ll just… avoid them.”

The look Louis gives him is unimpressed to say the least. “Avoid them?” he asks, voice filled with mirth. “You –also in the wedding and the co-person of honor with your sister– want to try and avoid another person in the wedding party?”

Harry inhales, his shoulders slowly rising up to his ears as he closes his eyes. “I don’t know, Louis, I’m trying to think of what will make this easier on you. I’m not sure how affectionate they are, but I don’t want you having to see it the whole weekend.”

Harry opens his eyes when he feels hand digging into his shoulders. Louis gives him a little shake, eyes still wild but frown lines mostly unetched. 

“That’s it!” he exclaims.

“What’s it?”

“Affection!”

Humming uncertainly, Harry says, “Affection?”

Louis shakes him again. “Yes.” He looks over Harry’s shoulder as he continues. “That bastard called me clingy, and basically told me an alpha wouldn’t be able to put up with it.” He locks eyes with Harry again. “I can show him I did find an alpha who not only puts up with it, but loves it.”

Ideally, if Scott and Emma had kids in the main comics, would you want Megan and Ruby to co-exist? Or do you consider them similar enough to be multiversal variants of the same person, a Cable/X-man or Hope Pym/Nadia Van Dyne situation. I tend to lean toward option 2, but it would be interesting to see them try to get along in option 1.

(But also writers need to remember Emma's actual original surrogate daughter, the Hellion Catseye. She's both a daughter and a cat, which is peak cuteness. She should get a chance to hang out with her posh cuckoo sisters and/or help her mom troll her current stepdad Tony.)

I want them to coexist. Scott Summers is meant to be a girl dad, he's meant to have a large family. I love Megan, Ruby, Megan's siblings (the one named Alex goes straight to my heart, he and his brother might fight a lot but he loves Havok so much), all of them. Emma is meant to be a mom and not in the way where it's like "she's not fulfilled until she's a mom". Her biggest fear was turning out like her father (the way she acted with the Hellions and getting them killed, the small thought she had where she was like 'im just like him'). With Megan and Ruby both, their stories boast about an understanding mother, one who was caring. She was the White Queen to everyone else but she was the mom Hazel Frost never was. Attentive, caring, not just focused on image and perfection.

Like how she is with the Cuckoos. She's a little awkward because they're teenagers but multiple times she's seen worrying about them, caring about their feelings. When they didn't return home from the first Hellfire Gala when it was sunrise, when they approached her about becoming the new White Queen, when Esme told her about her and Nathan's relationship and she helped her through that.

And Catseye being overlooked is really annoying. Because they pulled this Emma and Kate like Emma has always had her eye on Kitty being her apprentice, even though they butt heads a lot in older comics. Catseye probably wouldn't have been made Red Queen but maybe someone on Emma's team of people at Hellfire HQ.

I honestly loved the things they did with Empath still working for Emma while with the newer Hellions team. She still cares about them obviously. They're all alive on Krakoa, there is a scene where Empath is being yelled at by them because he let Sinister use their team name.

I personally am not a big fan of the Tony Stark/Emma Frost thing. I enjoyed it when it was a fling but Emma is a strong fighter for mutant rights. AVX and the other superhero teams reactions (FF4) to Krakoa were very revealing, showing how the Avengers viewed mutants and mutantkind having another nation. Tony Stark can say he's sorry a lot but it doesn't change the fact that Emma canonically holds grudges, she's always waiting for a way to get you back. They're cute together but only if you ignore the countless times Avengers have slandered the mutants, even when having mutants on their team.

Meeting Friday would be adorable, I will admit.

Anyway, I'm rambling and frazzled from work so this might not make sense.

ok so Vicky backstory coming up

So Vicky was born as Victoria Wißmüller to a Spanish and English Teacher in Linz, Austria and is the Middle of 4 children. Her Brother Toni (or full name Anton) is a sports journalist and around 5 years older than her. Her biological dad left before she was born (Toni was his child too).

When she was seven her mom Nicole Wißmüller fell in love with her now stepdad Alexander, who was ironically the father of on of her students. (They did not find that out until the 4th date. They actually met at a garden shop because Alex was looking for vegetable to plant in the garden because his daughter wanted some. But he didn't know shit about plants so Nicole decided to help the poor (although handsome) man) Alexander Falkenstein inherited a steel manufacturing company after his father and mother fucked of into the Alps for retirement, and introduced Toni & Vicky to a life style they were not quite used to with a single teacher mom. So now Vicky gained a dad, a loving set of grandparents and a sister (Julia is around 16 the time (making her 9 years older than Vicky)).

In a (at the beginning a bit awkward) attempt at father-daughter bonding Alex took her out to go karting. And Vicky fucking loved it. So Alex took her over and over again until the owner of the local cart track told him to just sign her up for a few races.

And of course Vicky got addicted to winning. So naturally her grandfather (now getting bored in retirement) took her to as many carting events as possible. At one of them she met Johannes 'Hannes' Acher (he switched to Alistair when he entered f3), got called a 'Trottel' by him on the podium and then they went out for pizza together.

When she was 12 her parents got married and she took the Falkenstein name. Julia was already halfway through her medical degree by then.

She and Alistair (now actually going by Alistair) entered F3 together in The red Bull Junior Academy. Somewhere around that time Vicky's mom got pregnant and Vicky got another sister named Elizabet. Alistair and Vic battled closely, Alistair winning in the end after Vicky's other teammate crashed her out (she made out with his gf the week before and he was a teeny tiny bit mad). They both moved up to f2 In campos Racing, Vicky winning the championship this year.

However Vicky didn't get the promised F1 seat. Alistair did. Alistair got moved to Toro Rosso/Alpha Tauri/what ever, leaving Vicky without a seat anywhere now that she couldn't race in f2 anymore now that she won the championship. So she left the Red Bull academy and signed with McLaren for a reserve driver spot.

the next season however, Lando moved teams, helping her up into the McLaren seat next to Oscar. Meanwhile Alistair was struggling with his shit box of a car. Her grandfather had taken on the role of her manger a few years beforehand (you should have seen him yell at Helmut Marko, who was ofc at the very least very influential in the decision to not sign Vicky). She got her first win in her rookie season (On a technicality, since the og winner Checo got disqualified).

Willy doesn't know Scary had a very traumatic experience earlier and has been disassociating as Terri for a bit. He doesn't know (weeeeeell, perhaps suspects. He never was too too trusting to begin with) that while she was separated from him for a few days, his control on her has weakened a touch. If she was so easily willing to murder the others at Rebecca's house just a few days ago, surely she won't mind it right now. Of course he is nice at first contact, keeping up the friendly charade as long as it suits him

but.... still.... guns. The kid-dads are on Earth with guns. The second Terry jr sees them float in he starts SHOOTING A GUN Not cast something. Not wait for them to land, get close to lead Scary away and oooh noes, the boys have been sniped by a mysterious assassin while offscreen! ...etc etc etc No, he shoots on sight. Willy absolutely set up the pieces in such a way that he gets what he wants & she wouldn't know ~ have no reason to suspect ~ she been played

Couldn't just write plainly "murder anyone w/ her" on those collars, not when there was a chance she may get close enuff to read it. noooope. "blast" or "stop all of them" could mean anything, plausible deniability y0! Scary needs to clearly see the weapons in this scenario, watch her [former?] team-mates be shot by those she knows. Bonus points if by stepdad - person she dislikes the most. But any of the kid-dads landing the final blow leads to exact same results.

She will end up alone.

Alone & isolated from her peers, toxic angst swelling inside by the second, zero doubts of Willy being her one and only true friend

but also - speaking of guns None of us question the sniper is Grant. Oh, we absolutely claw at the walls and wail in despair as it happens, but .... its fitting, isn't it? Poor lil Grant Wilson, the broken kiddo who was very much into shooter games. Of course he'd be the one to pull the trigger ("I'm up bad and broken, and wrong, and villain person. And it's important to me that you... I can't pass that on to you, okay? You can't be anything like me. So you gotta promise, don't ever kill anybody. Ever")

but hang on.... ALL the kid-dads have guns at this time. And why not Lark, who clearly is just as much about the guns. He was only giving one to his nephew literally at start of ep1! oooh right.. Lark comes prepackaged with Sparrow and the lvl of bitter betrayal at having him be the shooter just isn't the same . He already unleashed literal End of the World himself, the element of surprise won't work twice Terry jr could only fall by Grant's bullet.

Willy has been manipulating Scary for a while now, but he never actively tried to kill the others (even after separating them RE: Tony Pepperoni incident) Taylor's beheading was carefully done. Intensely shocking & upsetting, but non-lethal. Ever wonder why?

Sure, a group would have an easier time at getting all the anchors, but she's been more powerful than them for quite a while now; it is no longer as dangerous for her to go out there alone. But he didn't outright murder them..... because home & Earth dimensions hopping!!

the "amigara falls" door needed all 4 teens ~ alive and well as it were ~ to be able to travel between Earth & Forgotten Realms! Recall how furious he was with her when she sent that selfie of having "killed" them (you're fucking stupid for killing them because now we have to find another way into Faerune or Earth, I guess)

Behind The Scenes - Chapter 24: Family Sticks Together.

“Steven, are you okay?” Rose asked from the kitchen, It was the next morning. Steven was at the table with his father, Rose was making eggs for her son. Steven nods.

“I’m fine.”

“Are you sure, kiddo? I can call in the school to say that you're not coming in today.” Greg said, pulling out his phone, ready to call the school.

“Dad, it’s six in the morning…. And I’m fine to go today.”

“You had a nightmare, Steven.” Rose said, putting his chocolate milk on the table.” We're worried for your mental health too, education can wait, Steven.” his mom told him. Steven drank his chocolate milk and then nodded.

“If this is what you want, we can take you to school, okay?” Greg said.

“Alright,” Steven said.

“But…” Rose said making Steven look up at his mother. “If you feel like you need a break, you can call one of us and we will pick you up.”

Steven smiled and nodded. They watch him stand up from his chair and go to his room to get dressed.

Steven was dressed in a new Sonic The Hedgehog t-shirt that his mom had bought him. Steven slipped on his vans and put his Sonic beanie on top of his curly hair. He grabs his ukulele and puts it in his backpack.

Steven slung it over his shoulder and put the other strap on, Then he went downstairs. Rose grabs the keys to her husband’s van and they walk out.

“Hey, Mom, when are you getting a car for yourself?” Steven asked her. Rose has been driving Greg’s van since they got married. Rose even dropped Steven off on his first day of school in his van.

“I don’t know, Steven…. I hope the people at the dealership aren’t racists.” Rose said, sighing. Steven looks at her mother in concern. He is worried for her because of the problems that she has to go through, Steven knows that the other Gems go through this too, and he feels bad for them.

Steven was in class, Miss. Amin was at her desk on her computer, and some of the students were still working on their assignments. Clarence and Steven were done first, while Jeff and Sumo were still working on his. Steven looks around the room and sees Connie on the other side of the room on a beanbag chair, reading a book.

Steven walks up to her in the Reading Center and picks out a book. “Hey, Connie,” he said. Connie looks up, The girl adjusts her glasses and smiles.

“Hey, Steven,” she said.

“So, what are you reading?” he asked.

“I’m reading A Wizard of Earthsea. It’s good.” Steven nods and reaches up to pull out a book off the shelf.

Steven was at recess, He and Greg were sitting at a table. Steven had his ukelele in his hands.

“Okay, you won’t get in one day.”

“But, you learned it real fast.”

“I did but, it’s different for everyone. My dad was a musician.”

“Wait what does he do now?”

“He’s looking for a job, I gave him a card for my friend's stepdad’s business in Los Angeles,” he explained.

“Cooollll!” Greg said. Steven nodded.

A few minutes passed and Greg was still struggling. “I can’t do it, Steven.”

“Don’t say you can’t. I have an idea, you can come home with me after school, my grandparents are musicians too. So if I can’t help you, Misty, Tony, and my dad can.” Greg nods at his friend.

Steven, Clarence, Jeff, and Sumo were all playing a game of kickball, they had a few minutes left until they went inside.

“Okay, guys. Let’s play!”Steven said, walking up first, Jeff rolled the ball towards him and he kicked it.

“Come on, Steven!” Sumo said as Steven was Running around the bases. He stopped at home.

“Heck yeah, Steven!” Sumo said as the boy went up. Steven sees Connie walk to him. “Hey, Connie.” he smiles.

“Hi, Steven,” she says, watching Steven’s friends play kickball. Steven pulled out his phone and texted his mom if his friends could come over when she picked them up.

Rose texted back with a yes. “Connie! you can come to my house after school!” he said. Steven flashed a smile to her friend. Connie smiles back.

Steven, Clarence, Connie Jeff, Sumo, and Greg see a van with the word MR. UNIVERSE on the side of it, Steven opens the door to let his friends in first.

Steven sat and he put his seatbelt on. “How was your day guys?”

“It was great, Mom, oh mom, THis is Greg. He’s coming to our house so he can learn how to play guitar, I’m trying to teach him but…He doesn’t understand it yet. Maybe Dad can teach him like he taught me.”

“He can. He’s home, so yes,” Rose said, driving back to Hollywood Hills. Steven got a text from Ameythest asking if he wanted to come over after school so they could do something. Steven turned to his mother.

“Hey Mom, could I go over to Ameythest’s house tomorrow?”

“Sure you can, you know how to get there right? In two weeks we are going to let you ride your bike to places close to the house But to school. You will still be riding with me or your dad. It’s too far for you.”

“How far is it?”

“It’s…” She took her phone out while stopping at a red light and googling it. “Four hours,” she said, Steven nods.

“That makes sense,” he said.

Rose, Steven, and his friends were back at Greg’s childhood home and they all got out. “I’m hungry,” Steven said, Rose opened the front door. Misty was making lunch.

“Hey, we're back!” Rose said, Misty turned around and saw her grandson with his friends whom she’d never met before.

“Hey, Steven! oh, who are they?” she asked.

“These are my friends from school. And I met Clarence, Jeff, and Sumo when we went back to school shopping on Sunday,” he tells her. Misty smiles at all of them.

“Rose, can you help me?”

“Sure,” she said walking to the kitchen.

Greg looks at all the awards on the walk from Steven’s grandparents' achievements on the walls of the house. Greg even sees a star on the wall that says 'TONY & MISTY UNIVERSE’ with a record below their names.

“Cooolllll!” he said.

“Yeah,” Steven says. Then someone knocks on the door. Rose opened it and saw Pearl.

“Hey, Pearl. what are you doing here?” Steven asked.

“How do you know this address?” Steven asked.

“Rose texted it to me,” she said, looking at her. She waved at Rose, she waved back awkordly.

“Hi, Pearl,” Misty said.

“Hey, Misty.” Pearl smiles, then she sees Steven. She picks him up.

“Pearl, what are you doing here, I thought you were at work, and how do you know this address,” Rose said.

“Remember that I went on that trip for a few days? I came back just now,” she said.

“Ohh, right. You left after we left,” she said, Pearl nodded and pulled out her phone. “I have pictures of my trip.”

“Oh, where’d you go?”

“Miami,” she said.

“Oh, okay.” Pearl went on her phone and showed Steven. “Glad you had fun, Pearl,” Steven said, she picked up Steven and hugged him. “And I’m glad that you're here to stay, Steven! I’m so glad that you're here!” she said, Steven felt super uncomfortable with this.

“Okay, Pearl please put him down,” Greg said. Pearl put the boy down and ruffles his curly hair. Steven walks in farther into the house with Clarence, Jeff, Sumo, and Greg.

“Hey, Steven do you want to do?” Sumo said.

“Steven I thought you were gonna help me,” Greg said. Steven nods. “Oh, yeah. Guys. you wanna go to the basement with me?” Clarence and Sumo both say yes.

Steven and his friends went to the basement of the house and saw a recording studio with instruments.

Steven opens the glass door grabs an acoustic guitar and hands it to his friend. Steven went back and grabbed another one and sat by Greg.

The next day, Steven, Clarence, Jeff, and Sumo were walking, thankfully that they had three days left until the weekend and they were excited, Steven was at their treehouse, and Steven was playing with Clarence as Sumo was throwing stuff at a big rock. Then, a girl walks over. Steven knew these kids from his class.

“Hey, Chelsea!” he smiles, and the girl waves.

The girl has brown skin, a long neck, big ears, and a ginormous bush of dense brown hair that goes all the way down to her waist. She also has buck teeth with braces, though her front two teeth are fake. She’s wearing a black shirt, and a pair of yellow shorts, and purple Adidas high tops.

“Hey, Steven!” she said as she climbed the ladder to the treehouse, Sumo, Jeff, and Clarence waved and went back to throwing stuff.

Steven threw a watermelon at the rock, their bikes were leaning on a tree, Steven got back after hanging out with Ameythest. The boy got a call from Clarence asking him if he wanted to come to the treehouse, so he took his bike to Jeff’s house so they could ride together. So, that’s what they were doing now.

Steven got a text from Ameythest a few hours later asking if he wanted to spend the night, Steven said yes looked up the address to her house, and rode his bike there.

FrUK FACE family Parent Trap AU, part 4! Part 1

Alfred and Matthew have finally realised they’re long lost twin brothers. How do you cope with that kind of bombshell? In their case: by being very, very excited. Alfred especially just wants every possible detail about Francis and Quebec and machine guns Mattie with questions. Matthew juggles answering and trying to get his share of detail from Alfred about Arthur and New York. Neither of them get any sleep that night, not that they care lol.

The next day, they agree to keep their new found secret just that for fear of the adults finding out and making things difficult. Then more talking about their dads, every time they have a free moment. Neither of them can get enough. Eventually the conversation turns to the break up. Matthew says Francis never talks about Arthur, but he’s sure he still misses him a lot. Alfred agrees the same about Arthur missing Francis. Then wonders why they ever broke up if they were so happy and still haven’t gotten over each other ten years later. Mattie doesn’t get it either. The talk turns to their dads’ love lives and it’s here that Alfred casually brings up Uncle Tony, because - being Alfred - of course he’d take that long to remember him. Matthew is aghast, especially when he hears Arthur may actually marry this Antonio. He only just found his lost dad and now he may be getting a stepdad?!

Mattie asks what Antonio is like. Alfred shrugs and tells him Tony is…fine? He’s a good guy and his paella is great! Good at soccer too, maybe even better than Arthur. Yeah, Tony is a good guy, says Alfred.

Matthew can tell there’s a “but” coming. And he’s right. Alfred, with a little prodding, says that while Tony is fun to have around, he doesn’t think Arthur loves him. Not really. He likes Tony, likes him a lot, but…

Mattie understands. He knows Francis is lonely too.

There’s quiet for the first time since the big revelation as both twins think this over. Then Matthew shyly says he wishes he could meet Arthur. Now, before everything changes when he gets married again. Alfred agrees and says he wishes he could meet Francis too. Their eyes meet. It’s not sure who has the idea first - maybe they have it together? - but either way, they know what they have to do:

“We should trade places!”

“We should go live with each other’s dads!”

“Yeah! They’d never know!”

“We’re twins! It’s perfect!”

Once they’ve decided, it takes a lot of planning. The boys have to learn everything about each other in just a few weeks. Enough to fool the person who knows and loves them best. They drill each other on names, places, friends, family history and stories, etc. That stuff isn’t so bad, but a major stumbling block is how bilingual the Bonnefoy household is. Luckily they’re not starting from nothing as Alfred does French in school and his dad has always been extra on his ass about his French grades. Even more than usual. Alfred gets why now. More drilling, this time in French grammar and vocabulary. Matthew isn’t too confident by the time they’re done but Alfred tells him to take it easy. He can pull this off! Mattie isn’t so sure, but he’s willing to try anyway. He wants to meet Arthur very badly.

The last touch and big test is tweaking their appearances and seeing if they can fool their friends and the camp staff. They practice the other’s body language and way of speaking. Then it’s mirror test time. Alfred has shorter hair and a pieced ear (the latter done 100% without his dad’s permission lol) so it’s poor Mattie who gets the impromptu makeover. Alfred Kirkland coming at you while brandishing scissors and a sewing needle is not a comforting sight, but they manage to get it done with no major incidents. (It’s fine, it’s fine! Mattie only bled for a few hours, tops). They try out the switch at breakfast, breaths held, and…!

Success. Noone challenges them. As far as anyone else is concerned, Alfred was Mattie and Mattie was Alfred. Aww yeah! Operation Switcheroo is ago! 🇺🇸 <- -> 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 <- -> 🇺🇸 🤜 🤛

Before they know it, camp is over and it’s time to go “home.” The boys bid an emotional farewell, promise to keep in touch and help the other out if needed, then part ways. Alfred takes Mattie’s passport and gets on the plane to Quebec. Matthew boards the greyhound bus heading to New York. Both are so nervous all the ways it’s agony and they can hardly sit still. Matthew almost throws up eight times. Alfred actually does throw up, then pretends he didn’t when the kind air stewardess asks if he’s okay. The journey seems to last forever, but eventually the plane touches down and the bus pulls in.

Alfred steps out onto Canadian soil and looks around for the face he’s seen only in his secret photograph. He hears a French accented voice call Mattie’s name, turns, and sees Francis for the first time. Waving and coming to meet him with a beaming smile and a big, white dog on a leash. Alfred was sure he’d be okay, that he wouldn’t cry. He was wrong, but the tears were hidden and absorbed by Francis’s kashmir sweater when he swept his son up in a hug. Alfred hugs Francis back, breathing in his scent and feeling his silky hair tickle his cheek. This is his other dad. He’s hugging his other dad!! Francis feels Alfred shaking and is concerned, asking “Matthew” in French if he’s okay. And Alfred immediately forgets every French lesson he ever learned. He might have been found out there and then if not for Mr. Kumajiro distracting Francis by barking up a storm. This little one may look like their pup, but he doesn’t smell like him! By the time Francis gets him to calm down, Alfred has recovered. He hastily dries his tears, put on a Mattie-style smile, and tells Francis in French that he’s fine. Just got a little hayfever from all the flowers at camp. Francis says they’ll get some meds on the way home. As they walk to the car, he asks if Alfred enjoyed his first time at camp? Did he make friends? Was it exciting? Alfred grins and tells him: yes, yes, and yes again. He absolutely did.

Meanwhile, Matthew arrives in the crazy bustle of New York and is barely off the bus before Arthur appears to greet him. Mattie doesn’t get a chance to think before he’s swiftly hugged, and then held by his shoulders as his dad grumbles about various things while kneeling down and checking him over for injuries. A common occurrence when Alfred returns from anywhere further away than school. Mattie stares at Arthur, lost for words. This is his other dad. His other dad just came over and hugged him. Matthew feels his mouth go dry and his eyes well up with tears and has to fake a sneezing fit so Arthur doesn’t get concerned and suspicious. The hayfever excuse works twice in one day. Then Mattie puts on his best Alfred grin and asks, loud as he dares, if they can go get some food because that trip took for-ever and he’s starving! Arthur grabs his son’s bags and says sure, he’ll cook something as soon as they get home. As they head down to the subway, Arthur asks “Alfred” if he enjoyed camp this year? Did he see his friends again? Did he stay out of trouble? Matthew says: “You bet!” “Yes!” and “Nooo comment!” Arthur tuts but can’t help the corner of his mouth quirking up into a smile. He pats Matthew on the shoulder and Mattie has to act extra Alfred-style bouncy to stop the tears coming again.

Five hundred miles apart, Francis and Arthur are both surprised and touched when their son reaches out to grasp their hand on the journey home. Neither twin has done that in years, protesting they were too old for baby stuff like hand holding.

The hayfever excuse gets a few more uses before the day is out, and not just from the twins

Im 17, and im pretty sure life is fake.

I was 8 when i realized i hated my stepdad.

“Why doesn't the Queen wave with this hand?” He asked, a goofy smile on his face as he wave his hand around like an idiot. “Eh? Why doesn't the Queen wave with this hand? 'Cause it's my hand!”

I'd always wanted to punch him in the face.

When I was nine, he bought a deep-fat fryer. One day, I put my hand in it. I wanted to make myself feel something.

School was beneath me, but it was a good place for observation. Because i had a plan. To get out of here. And i needed an accomplice.

“Hey.” I said, clicking my lips together as the boy in front of me pulled his earbuds out. “I've seen you skating.” I didnt. “You're pretty shit.” I teased, not that I had even seen him.

“Fuck off.” He mumbled, and i just shrugged.

I get these moments when I have to lie down because everything feels, sort of, too much. And I look up and see the blue or the grey or the black and I feel myself melting into it. And for, like, a split second, I feel free and happy. Innocent. Like a dog. Or an alien. Or a baby.

“Your presence is required, young lady.” My mother whispered, earning an eyeroll from me as i glared at her. “Get inside and help.”

My mum used to be nice, but then she divorced my dad and met... Tony. Last week, he said he thought I needed a bigger bra. So I threw a Chicken Kiev at his head. Mum pretended that she hadn't heard him. Now she has the perfect house and the perfect garden in the perfect neighborhood. I haven't seen my dad since I was eight. He never fitted in. He couldn't settle. So he had to leave. I don't blame him. But he sends me a card, without fail, every single birthday. I understand, actually. I don't trust people who fit in. I'm not saying he's the answer, but he's something. So i made quick time with getting closerto him.

“Are you waiting for me?” I asked, noticing Fezco sitting outside pf my class. He smiled kindly, his signature smile before looping rms with me. It was routine. We’d meet up, find a spot and makeout. Until one day he went to grab my hand.

“What happened to your hand ma?” He asked, making me huff angrily.

“Shut up.”

I knew that people in love went out on dates.

“Hi, what can I get for you today?” The waitress asked, earning a smile from Fez as i glared at the menu.

“Is this true?” I asked, pointing to the menu that said “top ten greatest dinning experiences in America.

“Yeah!” The waitress said excitedly, smiling as she went to take our orders.

“Uh-I will have a…banana split with extra cherries.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Some blueberry pancakes.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“And a hot chocolate with cream.”

“You're hungry!” The waitress said, chuckling to herself as she did, making me fake laugh.

“And an extra fucking spoon.” She stopped writing, and gave me a stern look before speaking.

“Excuse me?”

“For him?” I asked, and she just rolled her eyes.

“Sorry. You can't use language like that, otherwise I'm gonna have to ask you and your boyfriend to leave.

“Okay. Okay, I'm sorry. Sorry.” I explained, sighing as I continued. “I will have…a great big banana shit with extra fucking cherries all on top of it.” I explained, angering the world actress as she called Marvin her manager.

“Oh, yeah! Go get Marvin! See if Marvin can make a banana split for me, you fucking cunt!” I smirked, looking over at fezco who tried desperately to hold back a laugh before I grabbed my things, heading out the room.

“Bye, Marvin!”

It’s safe to say fezco seemed afraid of me after that day, but in a good way. In a way that meant he knew I was crazy but he liked it. That was the first date me and Fezco had ever gone on. I missed those days.

Sawyer's copaganda of choice is Law and Order SVU, so we've been watching it a lot lately. We watched an episode last night about a kid who recognizes that he's a pedophile and how he's trying to get help before he hurts anyone.

They interview a dude who runs a site for pedophiles that encourages them to look but never touch, and at one point, he randomly checks his blood.

I thought it odd, maybe a random character choice, but my dad has diabetes so someone pricking their finger to measure blood sugar is mundane to me. It's of no concern. Already forgotten. On we go.

Later in the episode, when the teenage pedophile is murdered and they try to pin it on the stepdad, they find blood in the hallway not belonging to the victim. Benson says to run it against the stepdad's DNA.

"Unless he's diabetic, don't bother."

Me, suddenly sitting upright and pointing at the screen. "THE GUY."

"What?" Sawyer asked, befuddled.

"THE PEDOPHILE WEBSITE GUY. HE DID IT."

"What?! How?!"

"DIABETES."

"What?!"

"The blood checking from earlier! He's diabetic! They Chekhov's gunned us!"

"OH MY GOD THEY DID."

"FUCK they Chekhov's gunned us so good."

And lo, it was the pedophile website guy, who lived by the creed to look but never touch, never harm, and when he decided teenage pedophile had harmed, he killed him.

Wild episode. The woman playing the teenager's mother did an excellent scream when she found his body. Toni Collette in Hereditary levels of grief screaming.
