Camp Wiegman-Part 56
Lucy Bronze x Ona Batlle
Alternative Universe : Military School

———————————————————————
Friday, February 19; 3:00 PM -Alps
"Mom," I sighed again. "Do I really have to argue with you about this?"
"Why wouldn't you want to come home as well? I really expected you to visit."
"How many times do I have to repeat myself?" I replied with a weary tone. "I have an interview on Tuesday. We would have come after that, but all my friends are staying here."
"Yes, but..."
She started her sentence but quickly stopped to sigh in turn. I had been struggling with her for nearly fifteen minutes about our possible return to Barcelona. I knew it would be difficult to tell her we weren't coming, but I didn't expect it to be this hard. She seemed really upset.
"I would have loved to see you again... Plus, I'm a bit worried about letting Joan travel alone."
"Oh come on, it won't hurt him to manage on his own, don't you think? And it's not like we're never coming back to Barcelona. It's just that the end of this vacation isn't convenient for us."
"Yes, I understand..."
I rolled my eyes as I turned to lean against the railing of our small balcony. I had stepped outside to get some space. I didn't need Lucy hearing our conversation. Who knows how it could have gone. Surprisingly, it was going more calmly than I had imagined. Especially for a disagreement. She had never acted this way with me before. It's the first time she's trying to see me, and maybe that's why I'm not being as harsh for once. From this new angle where I positioned myself, I could see inside our room. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to move. Lucy was gathering our things, offering me a perfect distraction. It's our last day today, and we're leaving in the next hour... Just thinking about it makes my stomach turn. I would have loved to extend this vacation.
"I took a few days off, you know," my mother continued, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Are you trying to make me feel guilty?" I teased. "I can be stronger than you at this game, Mom. For instance, you've never taken a vacation for me before."
An awkward silence followed. I could almost feel her nervousness from here, and yet I hadn't even raised my voice this time. She knew I was right, and she must have been afraid that I would get angry. However, now that I think about it, I can't blame her. Our relationship was so shaky that she avoided taking vacations at the same time as me. It was better for everyone if we didn't want seven to fifteen days of door-slamming arguments.
"Alright, I get it," she sighed. "I give up, but do you think you could come back soon...?"
"I don't know. Probably. We'll make sure to come back over a weekend if you really want to see us. Has Lucy made such an impression on you or what?" I teased lightly.
"I love Lucy, but I'd also like to spend time with you."
I nervously bit my lip. Her words seemed sincere, but for some reason, I felt like there was something more behind them. She really insisted on my girlfriend's presence, which was very unsettling. My daydreaming was quickly interrupted by Lucy waving at me from inside to get my attention. It wasn't hard to understand that she was waiting for my help. I sighed as I ran my hand through my hair.
"Listen, Mom, we'll come back, for sure, but it won't be next week. Just get a ticket for Joan. The best would be for Wednesday," I said, repeating what Lucy and I had agreed on.
"Alright... I'll let you know the times. You fly this route often, do you know someone who could take care of himS?"
"Yeah," I said without even thinking. "Ask Shay to take care of her. She's young, probably Lucy's age, very nice. I don't know if she'll be on that flight, but you can try."
"Okay, I'll see. Did you have a good vacation otherwise?"
"Really great. I'd love to keep chatting with you, Mom, but I need to gather my things, you see. Lucy will come looking for me outside if this goes on," I chuckled softly.
"Oh," she replied, embarrassed. "Sorry for keeping you..."
"No, don't worry. I'll call you when we get back to tell you all about it, okay?"
This conversation was getting stranger by the minute. I don't know where these words were coming from, but I felt compelled to say them given how she was behaving. One thing is certain, it does nothing to ease our awkwardness.
"Alright," she responded uncertainly. "Be careful on your way back."
"Promise. See you soon."
"Safe travels."
"Thanks. Bye, Mom."
The words slipped out again. I had never said "bye" to her at the end of a phone call before. I quickly hung up to avoid prolonging this strange and unusual conversation. I took a deep breath before heading back into the room. The first thing I did was take off my jacket. Lucy was no longer visible, but I understood she was in the bathroom from the noise coming from there.
"Did everything go well?" she asked me.
"Mm-hmm," I replied nonchalantly. "I don't want to leave," I added to change the subject.
"Oh, come on. Don't act like a child."
I relaxed, relieved that she was playing along by responding to the second part of my sentence instead of asking questions about what I had been doing outside. So I quickly continued in that direction.
"It was way too short."
"Are you done? Help me finish packing our things instead of complaining."
"Blah, blah, blah," I mumbled with amusement.
I smiled as her head peeked out from the doorway to give me a threatening look.
"I'm not kidding. Your clothes are still in the closet, so make sure to pack your suitcase."
"Yeah, yeah."
I rolled my eyes before turning my back on her. Looking her in the face right now could be regrettable for me. At the same time, it really was a perfect stay. It's the first time I've had such a hard time leaving. Yet, I tend to be the kind of person who loves returning home to find my routine after a trip. But today, I have to admit it's the opposite. Lucy was right again. I'm going to be the one making us late if I keep delaying our departure. With these thoughts, I started packing my suitcase as Lucy had asked. Everything was folded, so packing was easy. Then I tackled the nightstand, dumping what was left on it into my bag. I sighed at the same time, which made Lucy laugh in the next room.
"Aren't you done yet? Are you going to mope too?"
"Yes! Completely."
"Well, I guess I'll leave you here then."
"Hey!" I protested. "You wouldn't do that."
"Why not? You just confirmed that you'd be depressed if you left here, so you could stay here, right? That would solve your problem."
"But no," I complained. "You don't get it. I'll be even more depressed if you leave me here alone."
"Really?" she murmured in my ear, making me jump.
She placed her hand on my hip. I didn't expect her to be behind me when just a few seconds ago, she was talking to me from the bathroom. I glanced over my shoulder to see her little charming smile. When I tried to turn around, she held me back to pull me closer to her.
"So, I'm more important than a place, huh?"
"You know very well you are," I whispered. "You understood perfectly when I said I wanted to stay here. It meant with you."
"I didn't understand it that way, though," she teased lightly.
I closed my eyes as she placed her lips on my neck. My God, how I loved her kisses. Anywhere, as long as she gave them to me. She's the only one who can drive me crazy to the point of letting her touch me like this. I still can't figure out how she managed to fit so easily into my life, but she did. And damn, do I love it.
"You should..." I finally whispered.
"And why is that?" she murmured against my neck.
- Because. I don't want to go anywhere without you anymore...
I pause for a moment after saying this. I don’t even recognize myself anymore. I was never someone clingy, and I definitely feel clingy saying this.
- I can't believe I just said that, I mutter out loud, making Lucy chuckle.
- But you did. It’s cute.
I take advantage of this moment to turn around and face her. She gives me a quick peck on the lips without adding any more comments that could make me uncomfortable.
- Alright, now that your little bout of depression is over, can we finish packing our things? I promise we’ll end our vacation just as well as we started it.
- I know, but it’ll be different. Not as... magical. We had our own little world here, you know?
- I can't argue with that... It’s true it will be different, but we have to return to the real world sooner or later.
I nod in agreement. It’s true, we’re really going back to reality. This last week of vacation will bring more work and responsibilities. It will start with the interview Lucy arranged for me, and then with my brother's arrival. I’m quite happy I won the battle against my mom. There was no way I was going to impose another long trip on us. Plus, after talking with the girls, I found out that Ale is staying in Manchester with Jenni, and Mapi already bought her ticket back for next weekend. Going back under those circumstances was out of the question. Having spent several weekends in Manchester before, this is the first time it’s happening. I can understand why my mom is worried about sending Joan, but he’ll only be traveling alone for one trip as we’ll make sure he returns with Mapi.
- Well, Lucy says, closing the suitcase. It’s time to head down. Are you done on your end?
- Yep.
I throw in the last of my things that I had in my hands before doing one last check. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s repacking when leaving. I always feel like I’m missing something. Fortunately, everything seems to be in order. I close my suitcase and join Lucy, who has already moved towards the door. I glance back one last time with a slight pang in my heart. I’m really going to miss this place. It was truly our little haven.
- Let’s go, Lucy murmurs.
I give her a sad smile and grab her hand. She shuts the door behind us, and we head downstairs. I’m surprised to see that we’re among the last to finish. I expected the others to take more time, considering this is the first time it’s happened. Usually, we’re among the first.
- I’ll go return the keys, Lucy tells me.
She steals a kiss before heading to the reception. I take the opportunity to join Alexia and Mapi, who seem to be having an animated conversation from where I’m standing. It looks like it’s the case, given how they greet me.
- There you are at last! Mapi calls out. We had an idea, Ale and I.
- Oh really?
- Yeah, she says proudly. Do you think Lucy will let you go for a night? We were thinking of having a girls’ night when we get back. Just the three of us, no girlfriends, nothing. Just us.
- Do you really think I would spoil the night by not wanting my presence, Mapi?
Once again, Lucy catches me off guard with her sudden appearance. The girls didn’t expect it either, judging by the looks on their faces. Since I told her what Mapi thought, this is the first time she’s made a remark that could suggest a reproach. Yet, I know they’ve talked. Neither of them wants to tell me what was said, but all I know is that things are better. They’ve settled their differences and know what they think of each other. I had pestered Lucy to be kind, and it seems she was. The most important thing is that their relationship has improved. It would be great if they didn’t take three steps back again. The comment had its effect on Mapi, as she gives me a disapproving look. She knows I told Lucy. At the same time, she should have known that was the case. A little cold sweat breaks out when she looks back at Lucy again. She almost seems embarrassed.
- It’s not that, it’s... Well-...
Her distress is evident in her eyes. Fortunately for her, Alexia comes to her rescue.
- We just wanted to have a night with friends, you see, Alexia interrupts. We’ve never had the chance to do one since we’re never together.
I bite my lip as I see Lucy raising her eyebrow seriously at Alexia’s intervention. Knowing her better now, I immediately relax. I was afraid she might react negatively, but I quickly realize she’s just teasing them. She often plays on her influence, and it’s very amusing to watch. I’ll never know how she manages to stay so serious every time. It’s something I could never do. Her serious expression slowly turns into a smile, making me burst out laughing.
- It’s fine, relax, Lucy finally laughs with me. Do you really think I’d stop her from going out? I’m not her mother, I’m her girlfriend, remember?
The girls’ faces are priceless. It’s funny that they always ask for Lucy’s permission. They still see her as my school chaperone. They haven’t yet understood that Lucy clearly distinguishes between the two relationships, and it will never be the case.
- But the night needs to be decided so we can plan, okay? Lucy adds while running her hand through my hair.
- Yes, Commander, I tease.
She rolls her eyes with a little smile.
- I’m going to Jenni’s, she finally says.
She kisses my cheek before heading off in her direction. I linger on her before turning back to the girls, who seem really uncomfortable.
- Forgive us, it’s just that we always feel like she’s the one calling the shots, Alexia apologizes first.
- I assure you, she lets me live my life fully, I giggle. If that wasn’t the case, I’d let her know.
- Okay, so when would be a good time for the girls’ night?
- Probably in the next few days. Joan is coming, so I’d rather avoid having him with us or leaving him with Lucy, I say with a shrug.
- Really? Joan is actually coming? You managed to call your mom?
- Just about. It was hard to convince her because she wanted us to come instead, but she finally agreed.
- That’s awesome! Alexia exclaims. So, you’re staying?
- Well, yeah, I laugh. We weren’t going to leave when you’re all here. Joan will probably come on Wednesday, but it would be best for us to have this girls' night over the weekend.
- We could do it tomorrow night. It’s Saturday. Saturday night is fun, right?
- Yeah, Alexia agrees. Jen told me she hasn’t done anything with Lucy in a while, so it’ll be a good opportunity for everyone to go out.
- We’ll check with them then, I say.
- Hey girls, are you coming? Beth calls out to us. It’s time to leave.
- It’s funny that it’s the latecomer calling us, Mapi jokes.
She nudges her playfully before they head off together, joining the others in laughter. It’s amazing how this trip has brought everyone closer. As for me, I’ve spent a lot of time with the four girls and Jenni. That girl is great, and I’ve learned some stories she shared about Lucy. It seems she was very protective of her and still will be if necessary. It’s good to know she’s surrounded like this, though I often wonder why. From what I know of Lucy, it’s hard to believe she needs it. Other than her, I’ve also talked a lot with Beth since she loves art, but also with Aitana during the evenings we spent together. Lucy was never far when one of her friends approached me, and I’m grateful for that. She has a good understanding of my anxiety, so I’m glad. Speaking of Aitana, she’s the last latecomer before we finally head out. We were very lucky with our cars. Since we barely used them these past few days, they were all covered in snow. Fortunately, the staff noticed and offered last night to clear them before our departure. Now that we’re in front of them, the result is really there. They’ve cleared everything, both on top and around. We decide to keep the same seating arrangements as on the way, which suits me perfectly.
- I’m still sad, I confess to Lucy while Jenni loads the car.
- We’ll come back, I promise, she chuckles.
- Hmm... But we might have to wait. Our next trip will be somewhere sunny.
- Are you going on vacation this summer? Alexia joins our conversation.
No. With the work at the gym, we won’t have time, Lucy replies. We’ll probably go to my parents' place during the next school holidays.
Lucy brought up this idea to me this week. I wasn’t particularly thrilled, but I couldn’t really say no. She had already met my mother, and she herself agreed to come back with me when I asked her. She admitted to visiting them twice a year: once during the end-of-year holidays and the second time during the summer vacation. Unfortunately, this year the second visit won’t be possible. Since she’s leaving her job to open her gym with Jenni, it goes without saying that they will have a lot of work on their plate this summer. When she told me about it, I expected her to say she wasn’t going. However, she promised them that she would come during the April holidays, so she can’t back out now. At first, I thought she just wanted to warn me about her departure, but in reality, I quickly realized that she wanted me to accompany her to introduce myself. I clearly panicked. It was sudden, and Lucy is older than me. Her parents must expect things different from mine. I don’t even know myself how we’re going to move forward after school, and I’m not in a hurry to find out, to be honest. All I want is to take my time. I was almost ready to say no to her, but she then explained that her parents have been worried since Keira’s death. Understanding Lucy’s desperate state, they had asked her to come back to Portugal, but Lucy categorically refused. She explained to me that she didn’t want to do that, that it would have been like taking ten steps back in her life. According to her, she had gained her independence by coming to Manchester and she had learned to love this city. It was because of this event that their project with Jenni truly came to life. If all this hadn’t happened, they would have waited before starting their own business. However, it was apparently the only thing that convinced Lucy’s parents to let her continue living in UK. Lucy managed to hide from them that she felt lonely and destroyed, and instead, she was determined to continue her new life. I felt bad hearing these revelations. I didn’t like knowing she was feeling so badly. Her solution to cope was Camp Wiegman. She confessed to me that it was her best way to heal. With this job, not only was she able to make money, but also, she managed to forgive herself for not being able to save Keira by helping other people in distress. It’s crazy that we could have met this way, but I’m so happy that her presence has been woven into my life.
- Yes, that’s exactly what I thought, that’s why I was asking, Ale continues with a smile. It’s cool if you can leave before! And where are you coming from then?
- From Portugal.
- You too? she wonders, knowing that I am too. Wow. Two Portuguese together, then, she giggles.
- Oh yes, Lucy laughs.
- It’s true that it’s a good idea to come back, Jenni says, closing the trunk. It’s been a long time since we did that with everything that’s happened.
- It was you who didn’t come back with me in December, Lucy replies. But if you want, you can come with us, Lucy offers. We will definitely leave the first week of the April holidays, but that remains to be confirmed.
- That would be cool! I agree. I would feel less alone, I joke.
- So yes. Know that Ona is really scared of meeting my parents, Lucy teases, making me blush.
I was panicking too. After what she told me, she never introduced someone after Keira. I can imagine that I would be the center of all their attention to ensure that I wouldn’t harm their daughter. In itself, I can’t blame them. I would have been the same and that’s what terrifies me.
- Well, at the same time, there’s a lot going on with Diane, Jenni laughs. Does she at least know that you have someone new in your life? It’s been a long time since you introduced someone to them.
- Since Keira, she murmurs. They don’t know about Ona yet, but I was planning to tell them over the phone in the next few days.
- I feel like you’re going to get a good scolding, she mocks. How long has it been since you called them? Knowing you, you’re still avoiding them like the plague, right ?
- Oh stop it. I avoid them much less than you avoid yours. I call them every weekend since... Well, every weekend except last weekend. She might have noticed that I’m hiding something from her, and I didn’t want to tell her about Ona right away. Anyway, did you know that your parents asked about you? she smiles amusingly at this news.
- Yeah, that doesn’t surprise me, she grimaces. But with all the organization and everything, I was pretty busy. That’s why I’m saying that maybe I should go back there, she giggles.
- You’d better call them more often, she scolds.
- You’re not in a position to preach to me. Start by telling her about Ona. You should know that the sooner the better. They’re just waiting for you to come back with someone.
- Hum, hum, she rolls her eyes.
- Hey guys, Aitana calls out to us, interrupting. Are we good to go?
Yeah, we’re good, Jenni confirms. Let’s get going before we get yelled at again, she tells us with a little laugh.
- That would be the height of irony since we were always the first this week.
We laugh as we get into the car. As on the way, we take off our jackets to be more comfortable, and Jenni hurries to turn on the heater. After Jenni checks the other cars, she opens the road as it’s still us who have the GPS. I look back with a slight pang, but I forget it very quickly the moment Lucy rests her hand on my thigh.
- Anyway, in all this, Ona, I confirm that you have reason to worry, she jokes. Diane will be relentless with you, believe me.
- Hey, Lucy replies upon seeing my face. She’s already quite panicked like that. Don’t make it worse. I would have preferred if you reassured her.
- Do you want to know the truth? she asks me.
- Because that wasn’t the truth?
- Yes, she laughs. But what you really need to know is that Lucy’s parents are adorable deep down. They’re just worried about her, so they’ll simply make sure that you deserve her. To do this, you’ll certainly have to go through a very thorough questionnaire, and they’ll definitely check your background—
- Jenni! Are you out of your mind?
- What? We both know they’d be capable of that, she snorts. No, seriously Ona, knowing you, they’ll adore you once they get to know you, believe me.
Lucy sighs before resting her hand again on my thigh. Looking at her now, I almost feel like she’s more stressed than me about this meeting. Maybe if she wants to take me right away, it’s to do it as quickly as possible like Jenni said earlier? I won’t hesitate to ask her. Anyway, I would follow her to the other side of the world if necessary. She has already done so much for me, so I wouldn’t hesitate to return the favor. However, it doesn’t change the fact that I’m totally panicked and if it were up to me, I would have gone back to Barcelona to spend my days studying for my exam.
- Everything will be fine, OK? she finally tells me. It will be the rest of the world against the two of us, in any circumstance.
This sentence may be cliché—and I hate it so much—but coming from Lucy, it's just adorable. I link my hand with hers and bring it to my lips to kiss the back of it.
- I know, I murmur before taking a deep breath. Anyway, you’re going to come with us too, right? So maybe they’ll have other distractions since it seems like Jenni hasn’t come back in a long time.
My subject change ended up easing the atmosphere. We laugh under the groans of the driver of the car.
- The worst is that she’s probably right.
I smile, staring outside. After all, it’s not really a bad idea this vacation. I’m going to have to face her parents sooner or later, and I’m happy to return to Portugal. It’s been a while since I last set foot there, me too. I miss my country. Maybe I’ll ask her to stop in my city as well...
Friday, February 19; 9:30 PM - Manchester.
I can’t take it anymore. I’m literally exhausted. In a good way, of course. Since it was mealtime upon our return, we all stopped at a pizzeria again to grab a bite. It’s been about an hour since we ate, and we’re now chatting. Most of our conversations are about our stay. Unlike in the Alps, there’s no more snow here, but it has been transformed by rain. Lucy told me she got used to this city, but I still wonder how. Maybe the weather will warm up now. I blink several times to stay awake. I try to follow what’s being said while being completely slumped over Lucy. A little more and I’m lying on her.
- Do you want to go home? she whispers to me.
- Hum, hum.
I shake my head, sinking into her neck. I don’t want to ruin the evening because of me. Everyone still seems to have their heads in the living room. We've done so many things that there's a lot to talk about. Lucy kisses the top of my head, holding me close.
- We’re going to go home.
No, I mumble.
- "Yes, let's go home," she giggles. "I don't exactly want to carry you all the way to my apartment."
- "I'm fine," I mumble. "I'm not that tired..."
I try to sit up, but she firmly keeps me against her.
- "You're allowed to be tired, babe. We've had a long week."
I smile at the thought. We definitely had a long week. Between parties, hikes, and activities, I don't know where my head's at anymore. Lucy had promised we'd go sledding, and that's what we did yesterday on our last day. Afterward, we stopped by a chalet for hot chocolate and ended the evening in the pool. It was the perfect way to unwind one last time. I didn’t expect to be this exhausted, though. There were nights when we didn’t get much sleep, but I should be used to short nights by now.
- "Alright, everyone," Lucy says to the others. "Any volunteers to drive us home?" she asks.
- "We’ll take you," Jenni teases. "We’re falling asleep too."
Eventually, everyone agrees to head back. I was surprised to find out it was already nearing ten o'clock. Suddenly, I didn’t mind going home. I thought it was much earlier. I struggle to get up, barely managing to stay on my feet, which seems to amuse Lucy.
- "It’s not funny," I mumble with a small smile.
- "Do you want me to carry you?" she teases.
- "No, and stop mocking me," I complain.
- "Oh, by the way, we didn’t get a chance to talk about the girls' night," Mapi says, approaching us.
- "You can talk about it tomorrow. She won't remember anything tonight," Lucy laughs.
I groan again, giving her a gentle push. Bad idea. Not only does she barely move, but I also stumble. Without another word, Lucy lifts me into her arms, making me let out a small cry of surprise. It was the last thing I expected her to do after joking about it. I smile as I relax against her, no longer finding the strength to protest. It takes just a few minutes for sleep to take me.
Saturday, February 20; 3:00 PM - Manchester Supermarket.
I sigh for what feels like the hundredth time as I push the cart. Whose idea was it to do the shopping the day after a vacation? Especially on a Saturday. It’s packed with people. This isn’t exactly how I imagined getting back to normal life. At least I got a good ten hours of sleep last night... I could’ve easily slept ten more.
- "I’m sore all over."
- "Are you done complaining? You've been doing that since you woke up," Lucy teases.
- "I’m sleep-deprived. I don’t really understand why you volunteered us to do the shopping. The others volunteered too. We could’ve spent the day on the couch!"
I’m starting to think it was a mistake to agree to this evening so soon. I should have known that with Mapi, everything would need to be meticulously organized, and that’s exactly what happened. This morning, during breakfast, she called me bright and early. Before her call, Lucy had confessed that she wanted to bring it up last night, but I fell asleep before she could. Mapi didn’t hesitate to remind me, teasing me about it. I laughed it off, so I can't really be mad at her. It’s something that’s never happened to me before. Then again, we didn’t get much rest during the vacation. We scheduled the girls’ night for tonight. I would have preferred to move it to tomorrow, but Lucy and her friends will be heading to The United while I’m out.
- "I’m starting to think I should have let you sleep in that restaurant last night instead of carrying you. And to think I said I wouldn’t do it."
I gasp, lightly hitting her arm.
- "It’s not my fault I was completely exhausted. You would’ve dared?"
- "Hmm... I would have if you were acting like you are now. You wanted this girls' night tonight, so own it."
- "Listening to you, it sounds like you're not too thrilled about it."
- "Don’t put words in my mouth," she sighs.
- "Then what? Are you going to say it’s my fault again? I consulted you, and we didn’t really have a choice since you’re also going out to your bar."
- "That’s not what’s bothering me right now."
- "Then what? Are you going to blame me for agreeing to a girls’ night? Did you not want me to?"
I ask, feeling a bit panicked. What if that’s it? I barely consulted her, but she said it was fine yesterday. At least, it seemed like tonight worked for everyone since she’ll be out with Jenni and Ingrid while I’m with the girls.
- "Of course not. It’s not about the night out. It’s you making a fuss about these groceries that’s irritating me. That’s all."
- "Well, the others could’ve handled it. Mapi and even Ale offered to help."
- "We needed some groceries anyway. Besides, Jenni’s going to start working solo on our room, so I owe her since she’s already doing a lot. And as for the other two, I don’t trust them with the shopping list. You know what I mean?"
I swallow the words I was about to throw at her. I’m such an idiot sometimes. I should know by now that most of her decisions are well thought out.
- "Sorry," I mumble. "I get it now, but I was just expecting we’d spend the day on the couch, so I’m frustrated."
- "It’s fine, I know. We’ll have time for that too. I promise, babe."
- "Yeah, well, I’m afraid we won’t have much time left, you know? Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had a chance to relax?"
- "Are you going to tell me you regret last week?" she challenges, raising an eyebrow.
- "Of course not... Alright, have you finished contradicting me just to change my mind?"
Lucy laughs as she continues filling the cart that I’m pushing. Some of it’s for us, and the rest is for tonight, as she mentioned earlier. We’re staying at Jenni’s apartment, so we needed to buy stuff since she’s low on supplies too. We decided to make pizza, so we bought what we needed, as well as some drinks. In the end, I’m glad we’re taking care of it. At least I know what we’re buying, and if it helps the others out, then all the better.
- "Nope. It’s actually pretty funny," she teases with a small smile. "Anyway, how about we grab some things for a movie night tomorrow, hmm?"
I was about to pout, but Lucy knows just how to talk to me to avoid that, it seems. I nod enthusiastically.
- "That sounds tempting, for sure."
- "We can finally finish the Harry Potter series after all this time."
- "You’re the best."
- "Alright, let’s finish these groceries then. We’re almost done."
Now that I look into the cart, I realize that Lucy had already started picking up stuff for tomorrow. I smile, amazed at how she always manages to distract me. It’s incredible.
- "Hey, you’re not really mad at Mapi, right?"
- "Why do you ask? I thought everything was settled."
- "I thought so too. It was just a question based on your remark yesterday. She blamed me for talking to you," she giggles.
- "Oh. I was just joking. I thought you guys understood that."
- "I did. I just wanted to make sure now that we’re alone."
- "Mapi is your friend, Ona. Like I said before, we’ve settled our differences. As long as she stays honest with you, I’ll appreciate her."
- "Even if she makes me drink tonight?"
- "Well, I’d rather not talk about that."
I laugh, knowing exactly what she’s thinking. She really doesn’t like it when I drink. Keira must have really left a mark on her in that regard.
- "I’m kidding. I promise it won’t be a wild night. Alexia didn’t seem to want that, and with what you picked out, I doubt we’ll get drunk."
I say, glancing into the cart. There are mostly beers, two bottles of low-alcohol liquor, and some soft drinks. I don’t think we’re at risk of getting drunk with this.
"And what do you plan to do tonight? Do you have any plans yet? »
My smile widens. She just can’t help but be curious. Even though she told me this morning, and just repeated, that she didn’t want to know anything about tonight.
- "I have no idea. We’ll probably talk a lot. Anyway, you’ll be looking for me tonight, so there’s no risk of anything happening to me, right?"
- "Don’t be so sure. If I find you drunk, I’ll make you run beside the car on the way home to burn off the alcohol."
I burst out laughing. The craziest part is that she really would do it.
- "Well, we’ll try to avoid that, huh?"
- "It’s up to you to avoid it, sweetheart," she replies with a wink. "Come on, let’s check out. When we get home, we can prepare the room for your brother, get the snacks ready, and finally relax. I’m starting to get tired too."
- "It’s about time," I giggle.
- "What can I say? I guess I have more stamina than you," she teases.
- "Yeah, well, not all of us are as athletic as you," I retort with amusement.
- "True," she smiles. "But even the best can get tired."
- "What nonsense! I never said you were the best."
- "I don’t need you to say it. I know it myself, and that’s enough," she boasts.
I laugh, giving her shoulder a gentle push. Her smile widens, making mine grow too. She’s joking when she says that, but she probably doesn’t realize how true her words are. She’s such an amazing woman, and I feel like she doesn’t even see it. I can’t wait to get home and hibernate on the couch with her.

Ruben Dias x Reader - Fake Love Part 7
Reader is a kindergarten teacher. Nothing more nothing less. But following an accident whistle vacation in Dubai she somehow makes her boyfriend believe that she does somthing else for a living, something that earns her way more money than she has. Her boyfriend, Ruben, is just happy to have found someone who understands him so well, someone who doesn't want him for his money since money isn't an issue for neither reader or himself. Or so thinks. Would finding out the truth ruin their newfound relationship? Readers thinks so, and does everything to keep up the lie, although it has some bad people from the middle east looking for her.
Enjoy!
"Okay, how much is that?"
"About 7 000 total."
"Ugh, we're still 13 000 pounds short." You groaned, falling back against your couch.
You and Alicia agreed to sell all the things that she had bought, in order to pay Mr Siddiq back. You managed to sell most of her designer items online, and some of the items that she hadn't even worn yet were returned to the store for a refund. You spent all week living like savages, glued to the computer, making phone calls to meet up with potential buyers.
"I don't understand why we can't eat, though? Or have heat?" Alicia asked, wrapping her body up in a blanket.
"Eating costs." You muttered. "So does heat. All of our money is going to paying back Mr Siddiq. I've told you this."
"Yes, but like you said, we're still 13 000 pounds short. I don't think we will be making that much money in 24 hours and I'm starting to get hungry."
You rolled your eyes. You really couldn't with Alicia. How could her financial judgment have been so poorly? I mean, her mother is an accountant for God's sake. However, it might have been her dad who used to spoil her as a child. The thrill of a man paying for everything she pointed to must be her aspiration in life. But today Alicia's aspirations had gotten you in a lot of debt.
"Would you please pick up your phone, my ass doesn't want to vibrate forever, and I'm pretty sure your boyfriend is calling me now."
It was true, you recognized Ruben's number on Alicia's screen. You stood up to take the call, disappearing into your bedroom.
"Ruben?"
He had been calling all week. But with everything going you weren't in the right head space to talk to him, let alone be honest with him.
"Hey, baby. Is everything alright?" He sounded concern, probably because you were talking to him through someone else's phone.
"Everything is fine. Life is just pretty hectic right now."
"Oh, sorry if I'm disturbing you..."
"It's fine Ruben. Hearing your voice is really what I needed."
"Good." He shriped and you imagined the dimples that came with his smile.
"I've actually got some news that might cheer you up?"
"Really? A man named Mr Siddiq and his entire family sadly passed away in a plane crash?
"Yeah, I'll be in London this weekend for our away game against Chelsea."
"Oh"
"Oh?"
You perked up. "I mean, that's...that's really nice Ruben. But I'm not in London this week?"
"No? Where are you then?"
Don't lie, don't lie, don't lie.
"Stevenage!" You blurred out, immediately regretting it.
"Stevenage? What is that?"
"Um, it's a city. Where I grew up actually. Where my parents live."
"Oh, you're visiting your parents?"
"Yes, so I'm pretty busy."
"I'd love to meet them someday."
"You do?" You paused, Ruben's answer suprised you.
"Of course. Wouldn't you like for me to meet them?"
You had just gotten comfortable calling Ruben your boyfriend, him meeting your parents would mean another milstone reached before you had told Ruben who you really are.
"Sure." You mumbled.
"Let's make it happen someday." He said, sounding happy about the fact.
"Um, I've got to get back to work..."
"Of course. It was nice to hear your voice too. Can I call you again later tonight?"
"Um, sure."
"Alright, talk to you later then. I love you."
"Bye Ruben."
The room fell silent as you ended the call, however the guilt and shame inside you was louder than ever. You dragged yourself back to the living room, handing Alicia back her phone.
"You good? What did he say?"
"He said he loved me." You plotted down on the couch, eyes staring blankly into space.
"Oh my god, really? What did you say."
"I said, bye Ruben."
Alicia frowned.
You turned to her with tears in your eyes. "He's never gonna talk to me again when he finds out."
"Finds out what?" She cought you as you slumped into her embrace. "That you're nothing but a gold digger?"
You sat back up. "That's not funny Alicia."
Her shoulders shrugged when she laughed.
"I am not a gold digger. You on the other hand...."
"Okay, okay. I get, I messed up. I'm the bad guy in all of this. But speaking of gold diggers...." She said, with that look that often haunted your dreams. "Wouldn't it be easiest to just ask Ruben for the remaining money? I mean surely he's good for it, and if he really loves you..."
You batted your eyes. Baffled by what was coming out of Alicia's big mouth. Surley anyone would agree that now would be the only right time to slap your best friend in the face. "Alicia." You said, with the lowest most calmest tone you could extract from yourself. You were convinced that this was the only way that she would understand you, if you were babying her.
"Yes, Y/N?" She said, with that naive twinkle in her eyes.
"Have...you...learned...nothing. You are NOT. I repeat NOT, borrowing money from anyone ever again, especially not Ruben."
"Then how are we gonna pay the last 13 000 back?"
"I'm...." You said, getting up and walking over to grab your coat. "I'm going to talk to someone I trust and know will lend me the money, with a promise that I'll pay him back with interest."
Alicia looked over to where you stood. "It's not Byron is it?"
"That's none of your business." You hissed, slamming the door on your way out.
Byron agreed to hear you out over a beer. You met in a small pub in town and to your suprise Byron agreed to lend you the money.
"And don't worry, you won't have to give me all of it until June."
"It's okay." He said.
"It is?" 13 000 punds was alot of money. However, there was something else on Byron's mind, a question.
"Is this you?" He asked, showing something off his IPhone.
Heat rose to your face seeing a photo of you in the club with Ruben and his friends, Ruben's arm waying over your shoulder as you sat next to him.
"Um..."
You had seen it before, the photo, going around the internet, with the caption talking about Ruben and his new boe. It was first posted on Lauren's Instagram. Lauren who was Ruben's teammates girlfriend.
"Yes, yes that's me." You sighed.
Byron nodded. Of course it was you in the photo, he wasn't blind. People in Stevenage watched Football and knew of the hype around it. You only belong to the few people who didn't.
"How do you know Jack Grealish and Ruben Dias ?" He followed up, in a way that sounded more like you were being accused of a crime rather than asked a simple question.
"I um....met them during a night out with friends." You lied. He wasn't Ruben, you had no problem lying to Byron.
"And so the two of you...?" He was reffering to Ruben.
"Took a photo and then went our separate ways." You nodded. "Yeah, that's pretty much what happened."
Byron didn't look to believe you, but proceeded. "It's obvious that you're seeing someone Y/N, I mean you never come over for game nights anymore and I've seen you texting someone when you should be paying attention to your class."
You chuckled. "Byron I have no idea what you're point is, but if this is you criticizing the way I teach my kindergarten class then..."
He shook his head. "No, it's not that."
"Then what is it?" You really didn't have the time. You should get back to the apartment, help Alicia sell her clothes. And Ruben would want to facetime soon.
"I like you Y/N."
"There it is." You sighed.
"And I'm not lending you the money so that you'll finally agree to be my girlfriend, but...."
"But?" You frowned. "There is no but in this Byron. Either you lend me the money out of the kindness of your heart, or you don't. This is not an exchange of services."
"Then, no." He said, fixing his posture as he sat across from you.
"No? What do you mean, no?"
He got up to leave, grabbing his jacket. He looked down on you with pitty on his face. "Life is about choices Y/N, and you seem to keep making the wrong ones."
With that he left.
You got back to your apartment, pretty sure that smoke was coming out of your ears.
"Y/N, there is something you should..."
"Not now Alicia."
You stomped across the living room.
"But you should really..."
"God, not now Alicia." You hissed, not meant to take your anger out on her. Nevertheless the damage was already done as Alicia crumbled where she sat on the couch. "I'm sorry I..." You ran a hand down your tired face. "I just got to facetime Ruben first. I have to tell him that I love..." The handle to your bedroom door pressed down just as you were about to do it. The door opened and he appeared in the frame.
"Ruben?"
He grinned. "You sounded down over the phone so I brought something that might cheer you up."
"W...what?"
He stretched out his arms. "Me!"
Warmth erupted inside you. You stumble forwards, melting into his giant embrace. Although this was a bad thing, a really bad thing that he was here, you really needed to be held right now.

From: Leia Organa-Solo <leiaorganasolo.personalacct> Date: Thu, Jul 11, 29 ABY at 3:41 PM Subject: Happy Thursday! To: Ben Solo <benquadinaros99>
------------------------------------------------------
Hi sweetie,
Thank you so much for visiting last weekend! It was really so wonderful to have you home. I'm sorry Rey wasn't nicer to you—I've spoken with her, but she's going through a phase, so please try to be patient with her. Maybe you can remember what it was like to be her age. With all due respect, my beloved firstborn, you were much worse. 😉
I'm also grateful for the conversations you and I had on the Falcon, both on the way home and on the way back to Naboo. Thank you for understanding why it's important to me to know that you're safe. But you're right, that I can trust you to let me know if anything is ever wrong, without me asking all the time. You'll have to forgive an old woman's pestering, as I am irrevocably your mother, but I'll do my best to ask about the other things in your life, and not just about your wellbeing.
Ben, I wanted to share something with you. Feel free to completely ignore it. But for some reason, I was lying awake last night next to Dad, and I felt like this was something that might be useful for you to hear:
I didn't want to admit I'd fallen in love with your father, at first. Those were the Rebellion days. I'd just lost my planet. The galaxy was at stake, and every day I woke up and fought for a dying chance at hope. Han seemed to be everything I disdained: cocky, individualistic, hardhearted, motivated by money. (I know—it doesn't sound like Dad now, does it?) I liked nice men. Respectable. Noble. Responsible. But your father was a rogue, and I hated that.
What I hated most of all was that I loved him. Your father was smitten with me, and made so many advances, he probably would have seemed like a bit of a creep by today's standards. 😛 Even though I liked him in spite of myself, I rejected him every time. I had a job to do and a vision for my life, and Han was not part of it.
Then, one day, we were captured on Bespin, and I watched as Darth Vader lowered your father into a carbon-freezing chamber. Vader intended to freeze Luke in carbonite and bring him to the Emperor, and was testing the technology on Han to see whether a sentient could survive the carbon-freezing process. We didn't know whether Han would live, or be killed instantly. And I decided in that moment there was no more time left to waste.
"I love you," I told him as they lowered him in, worried that if I didn't tell him then, he would never know.
"I know," Dad said, showing me he already did.
And that's the origin of our little family phrase. 😊
These are different times. There's no more war, on a galactic scale at least, and I hope there never is again in your lifetime. Life is peaceful, relatively speaking, and I still spend every day working to keep it that way (despite the endless useless politics over nothing). But even so, we will never know how much more time we have. I'm glad I let go of my pride, and said yes to your father.
In many ways, he did turn out to be the kind of man I wanted: principled, loyal, affectionate. In other ways, he's still a bit of a scoundrel, and absolutely still a half-witted, scruffy-looking nerfherder. I had a lot of doubts going into our marriage, and I'd be lying if I said I never doubted things now (no marriage is perfect). But when I look at all of us, at my beautiful family: my handsome grown-up son, my spunky Rey of sunshine, and yes, the snoring nerfherder at my side, I know I've made the right decision.
I don't know what decisions you're facing in your life right now. But I know you, Ben, and I know that you're smart and thoughtful. I'm confident that one day, you will look back on your life and be thankful for the choices you've made. Like how I feel when I think of Dad...and whenever I think of you. 🤍
I love you Ben-Ben!
Love, Mom

RL Simself Story ( 18+)
CW: Pregnancy, adult topics, cheating
I didn’t think I’d get so jealous. But it’s my own fault I would say. 😕Nobody forced me to come here, where my ex and his (Ex) -fiancée lived together...
Nico: Sorry. But I put away almost everything that was possible. Her furnishings I can’t just let disappear overnight.
Me: What?... Um, no! I-... I don’t mind those furniture she bought or all that stuff. It looks great. Tbh, this is perfect! I just wonder, why didn’t it look like this in our apartment back then? I couldn’t even buy a new couch, without you starting to discuss with me. But you allowed her to change everything here.
Nico: Didn’t you listen to me a few mins ago? She bought all this shit here without my permission. I had no idea about it! I was playing soccer abroad. And you got a new couch back then. Just remember how many times I painted the walls for you. Hm?
Me: All this here looks pretty expensive, compared to our apartment. I kind of feel like she’s.... like Isabella.🤑
Nico: Isabella?... Hell, no! ..And she’s not wealthy like Isabella, if that’s what you wanted to know. Actually, she’s like.... you. Self-conscious, anxious, indecisive, a bit shy and.... sad. 🫤
Me: You must have a weakness for depressed women, ha?
Nico: You know what I meant. But she's not hooked, she has other serious..... issues. Just she’s not as cute and hot as you are to me.
Me: Yea, sure.... I just don’t understand why you moved in with her? I mean, you have a house! A pretty big one! An apartment was not really necessary. 🤨
Nico: Excuse me?.. Why would I live with my mother? You and P. also had plans to move together. Why is it allowed for you, but not for me?... Yes, he told me you chose him, when I visited him at his fucking college. So I had to move away, to avoid the two of you! But this here isn't her place. I was here before she and I got....well, serious.
Me: Sorry. I didn’t mean to. And I didn’t really choose Philip. I thought I had it, but.... no. I lied to him and myself. I always felt bad about you and he too! That’s why it was so easy for me to fall in love with Daniel. Frankly... I was glad that it was over with Philip. I didn’t want anything to do with you two, after I was with him abroad. 😒
Nico: That wasn't my fault, his ... Natasha bitch. I never did such a shit to you. But to be clear, I’m not blaming you for my own mistake! I’m sorry I asked you to sleep with him. I never admitted it, but.. the first time I saw you & him together,..... I wanted to kill P. ... Yea, now it’s out. I was jealous. Even though that damn thing was my fucking idea.🤷♂️
Me: And still, you insisted that I continue.......Hm? You know? But that spa-weekend was pretty nice. We should definitely repeat this. Just the two of us, of course!! Without Philip...... So sorry, N.
Nico: And I'm sorry for being crazy. I was so stupid to share you with Philip and pass between the two of us. I thought that would help you and I trusted P. Never thought he’d take you away from me. I was sure you would choose me if necessary.
Me: I chose you, but I couldn’t tell anyone. I didn't want to hurt P., so I went nuts and told my Dad.🤦♀️I told him the last 3 weeks alone with P. were hard. He locked me up not to relapse... and that you couldn't leave me alone, bcs I started using. I said all this to him... I wanted my Dad to get me out of that mess. Not really, I just didn't know what to do?...I was so unhappy bcs you had to go back to Italy. And at the same time afraid to lose P. But my crazy Dad sent you away, not Philip.
A bit later....
Nico: That movie sucks, babe. You really wanna keep watching this crap?... I’d rather continue with you.😏
Me: I gotta tell you something... Something serious. (🍼🤰 )
Nico: Daniel?? 🙄
Me: Agh, no... Anyway, let's talk later. I want you, too N.
Nico: From now on, you stay with me.
Me: She didn't even really move out here.... but I'd love to stay with you. 🩷
Nico: Then you stay, babe. No time to waste. I have so many plans for you. But most importantly, you divorce Daniel.
Me: This time, I’m not questioning what you’re up to.. I’ll do whatever you want. Besides, I have plans for you too. (😬🍼) And Daniel took off anyway. He doesn't want me.
Nico: His mistake, my gain. Such an moron!
And that's N.'s (ex-) fiancée. Stephanie.🤨 Don’t worry, she didn’t catch us in bed!!! But she was there! I didn’t see her myself the moment she came. I was sleeping. Nico was up. She came by to pick up her stuff, he thought. But she also wanted to talk to him and did not intend to leave. He didn’t tell her I was in his bedroom, he just asked her to leave. Nico told me she was crying and wearing... sleepwear?
He seemed worried and was somehow.... weird to me after she showed up at his place. I had the feeling, he didn’t want me anymore? 😞 All though a few hours ago, he wanted me to stay with him. He wanted me to move in with him. You know? However, I asked him to drive me home to my parents. I had to change & shower, so yea, he dropped me at my parent's house and said, that he would pick me up in 2 hours. I was so relieved that he wanted to come back. I was afraid to lose him a second time. Besides, I was pregnant. I mean, I haven’t taken a test yet, but I just knew it. Something changed in my body, I could literally feel it. It was like the last time I was pregnant. And btw, I told Nico what happened to me last year, about this whole annoying issue with my contraception. He reacted totally relaxed. He said, if I want a baby, he wouldn’t use protection. I really didn’t expect that!! 😲 I knew Nico never wanted to have children. At least not at this point. I was about to tell him, I was very likely pregnant, but I wanted to take a test first, to be absolutely sure!! I was so happy about N.’s composure on this subject. I already imagined our future with our Baby and all this. 🩵 Just as I mentioned before, the next morning, all this seemed to be in danger, bcs of that girl, Stephanie. 😓

Homesick
Shingen x OC/reader fluff
(although oriented more on the official route of Shingen's; with family and friends remaining in the present, I doubt that anyone would go without missing them)
I sit in the kitchen of my parent's house. A place with countless childhood memories. A place I don't get to visit as often as I'd like anymore. My mother stands with her back to me, cutting vegetables fort he lunch she's cooking. Dad's probably in the living room, reading his newspaper as usual.
I rest my head on my hand and gaze out the window. Seems to be one of those lazy and peaceful weekend days. Not that I'd complain. It's quite exhausting at work right now, so I enjoy doing simply nothing for once. If it were for me, it could stay this way forever.
"Why?"
The word is so quiet that it takes a moment to register. Confused, I look up.
"Did you say something?"
"Why?"
Alarms start blaring in my mind. I stare at my mother's back. Something feels wrong.
"Why what?"
Mother turns toward me, and to my utter horror, tears are streaming down her face. Never in my life have I seen her this upset. Not my calm and composed, yet also humorous mom.
"Why did you leave like that?"
"Leave? What are you talking about? I'm right here."
"Are we not good enough? Have we not taken good care of you? Why did you go to a place we can't follow? And all for a man from the past?"
Upon those words, the memories come crashing down on me. Shingen! Of course! The wormhole to the Sengoku era! How could I have possibly forgotten about all of this? Yet, somehow I am back home right now. However, seeing my mother like that leaves me even more shaken. As do her words. Each one is like a dagger to my heart.
"Mother, I…"
"What does a man who's long dead have that we don't? Does family mean nothing to you?"
"No! Mom, please listen! You met Shingen. You even quite liked him. And it's not that I willingly was sucked up by a wormhole. It was an accident. Nor did I chose to find love in the past. But… I did find it. And I love him with all my heart. As he does me."
Despite my desperate plea, mother rambles on as though she hadn't even heard me.
"Just leaving us behind like that… it broke your father's and mine heart."
"Mom!"
She still doesn't seem to hear me. Instead, her face contorts into a mask of anguish, and she lifts her arms towards me.
"Why did you leave, my little girl?"
My eyes fly open. It takes a while to orient myself in the faint moonlight. But then I recognize the ceiling as the one from our bedroom in Ttsutsujigasaki castle. And I sense tears flowing down my cheeks.
What by all the kami had that been?
Suddenly, a warm and strong arm wraps itself protectively around me. A thumb catches one of the tears and wipes it away.
"What's the matter, my goddess? Kami, you are crying."
"Sh-Shingen…?"
"Shhhh, it's alright. You're safe."
I take a few moments to recharge in his comfort, to calm my beating heart and wipe away the tears.
"That must have been a terrible nightmare you had", the head of the Takeda says. "You were squirming around in your sleep. Had you not awoken by yourself just now, I would have woken you to end it. And the tears… if I could, I'd slay that nightmare for having made you cry."
How good it does to hear it. Shingens reliability and support never fail to give me strength.
"Thank you", I answer him. "And yes, I did have an awful dream."
"You mind telling me?"
I don't, and so I oblige.
When I'm done, Shingen just holds me, silently pondering what he just heard. I can't see his expression well in the dim light, but he clearly isn't amused. Eventually, he pulls me into a proper embrace.
"Oh my angel… do you miss your home so much?"
"I… I guess I do."
How can I not miss it. As much as I love Shingen, the choice has been a cruel one. With how unreliable wormholes were, we couldn't just visit my home, my time, whenever we want. Without Sasuke, we can't even calculate when the next one is going to open. So, after the successful surgery on Shingen in the future, it had been either go back to the Sengoku with him or remain and return to my family.
He gently streaks my head. "I am so sorry you have to feel that way."
"Ah. No, Shingen, don't you dare start blaming yourself." I take his face into my hands and lock eyes with him, as well as possible in the darkness. "It's nobody's fault. Yeah, I hate that this decision was forced upon me. And I do miss my parents a lot. However… this is the choice I made. And despite the pain, I don't regret it one bit. Because I have you. It's just… I guess I hadn't expected it to hit so hard. Not after I've been here for over half a year."
He's silent for a few moments. Then he says: "You truly are a goddess descended into my life, you know that? Sometimes I wonder how I even deserve you."
That last sentence does sound flowery. But I hear every single word. Before I can reply, however, he pulls me close to him into a tight embrace.
"I never had the kind of family that you have. This era of wars seldom allows for close familial bonds to form."
I nod. Vividly, I remember when he told me that he had to usurp his own father in order to save Kai and make it prosper.
"That's why", he continues, "this gift of you giving up a family like yours for my sake is one I can never even hope to repay. Nor can I truly understand your pain. However, you said it yourself… I am here for you. If you need someone to talk to, or a shoulder to cry on, you know that you can always come to me."
"Yeah, I know…"
His warmth, his kind words, must have broken a dam again. The tears start flowing anew. And I let them. I let all the pain I didn't know I held back drain out of me. Hells, I thought I had come to terms with leaving my family. Apparently, I had not.
Shingen just holds me, pats me supportively on the back now and then. Finally, after an eternity, they do subside.
"Are you better now?", Shingen asks.
"Yeah… Thank you."
"Don't mention it, my angel." A gentle kiss on my forehead. "I'll do anything for you."
It's the truth of those words that in the end made me stay with him.
"I know."
"Now, please go back to sleep, my beautiful flower. And this time, allow me to guard your slumber, so that no bad dreams dare bother you again."
Despite the sadness, I can't help but smile.
"Oh, I am sure that they will flee at the mere glimpse of my mighty, fearsome tiger. My slumber shall be safe and sound with you guarding it."
"Hey now. I'm trying to be a gentleman here."
We grin at each other, then we share a brief, yet passionate kiss. Finally calm, I settle back down in his arms, cuddling against his broad, firm chest. I hadn't lied before… I never feel more safe than with his tall frame and strong arms around me. Heh, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually was able to keep the nightmares away with his sheer presence.
He is my family now. My one and all. The center of my life. As I told him, it is a choice I would make again and again, no matter how many times I would be given it. I will never regret it, despite the pain about what I had to leave behind. And while I will keep the memories of my loved ones in my heart, it is the life at Shingen's side that I will keep my gaze set on. Because that is the place I belong to.
Slowly, enveloped in his warmth, I drift back into sleep. And the nightmares indeed did not return. Because a certain big, strong tiger is guarding my slumber.

Hello!!! Just wanted to talk about how perfect this new chapter is. It made me giggle and kick my feet at the start and then cry a whole river in the end (in a positive way ofc). Starting the chapter with Keegan and his mother wasn't something I was expecting but his mother is so sweet😭💞. I think it fits perfectly for him to have a loving mother that's also really straightfoward. Shyanne's personality made me smile so much, but I also think she'd get along with mama really well if they met (praying that soon enough that'll happen). The way Keegan interacts with her made me curious too, and it made my heart ache to see him being overwhelmed by his work and feeling like a bad son for various reasons. I'm really curious about his past now too, mostly about family dinamics. I was also not expecting to see Colleen's daughter now, and the whole situation involving her and her mother is just so sad. First of all the fact that Simon didn't have a glue about Colleen's criminal record made me so mad like, he's literaly in the military, how researching for your fiancée's past beside from her family matters wasn't a thing he prioritized??? And it makes everything worse because she was arrested for child endargement and abuse, AND HE HAS A DAUGHTER. It's unbelieveble that he was so desperate to find a reason to have a divorce that he didn't even check if the woman he was going to marry wasn't a complete menace for his family's well-being. And we have poor Madi. She made me cry so, so much. It's heartbreaking for me to see that the things her mother did to her traumatized both her and her father, but I'm glad at least now she'll have a better life with that bitch away from her. I was cringing so much when Simon started to pry into mama's things too, specifically when he was basically demanding for her to say how she discovered that she was having problems with her sex drive😭. It just makes me so frustrated because it's such an awkward topic and they're not married anymore, and he makes things even worse by asking if she discovered it with Keegan💀. Mama has so much self-control because I'd be yelling at him already or laughing in embarrassment. And then we have Fawn. Honestly the last chapters were very traumatizing for her, it makes me feel so bad for her💔. It's heartbreaking to see how she doesn't even want to spend the weekends with her father anymore because of the whole baggage of trauma that happened involving him and Colleen and even more to know that she doesn't want to open up about why she's acting like this with her parents. As I was expecting, the lack of communication between them ended up staining their relationship even more, and I can't stop thinking how confused Fawn must be now. It makes me even more furious with Simon because if he had checked Colleen's background none of this would've happened. But I do think it's very soothing to see that Keegan can make her open up about her feelings, shows how much she trusts and likes him. Also, mama's definitively being more responsible than Simon now, specifically when she decided that there should be a break from visitations. I was already crying and that made me cry even more, yes (maybe listening to "Quando Bate Aquela Saudade - Rubel" ((btw the song is great, but idk if you'd enjoy it💔)) didn't help much, this song makes me too emotional), but it was a reasonable thing for her to do considering how the little girl's mental health must be after everything she went through. At this point I can't decide if I want to slap Simon or give him advices on how to not be an idiot (maybe both would be good). This chapter was a lovely rollercoaster of emotions and had wonderful plot shots. Also I was wondering how Fawn looks like, if she has a specific appareance or if it's up to the reader to decide that. Anyways, I hope you have a good week💞💞💞
Hiiiii! 💛
I must say that I fully believe Keegan was raised by a single mom, having a good relationship hence why he's so respectful to women (minus Colleen 💀) ((and even more so to mama))
And oh boy does Simon have a lot of reflecting to do, and now that Colleen is gone for good, it'll get pretty interestingggg 🤭
Simon is getting into the deeper parts of his feelings now with mama, the worrying and constant need of reassurance she's okay but EUGHHH was I cringing and biting my laptop lmao it was so hard to write with how awkward it was!!!
Poor Fawn is been through it! Thankfully she's gonna get lots of Keegan time!!! 💗💗💗
As for her appearance, she has Simon's hair color, his eyes, but I left her skin tone a blank canvas, depending on readers tone they decide if it's tan/olive/pale or anything and she's got a little bit more height than normal 5 year olds (Simon makes some big, chunky babies lol)
And I will definitely check out that song! I haven't heard of it so I will take a listen at some point!! 💛

In lieu of a Monday Philm post tonight, I wanted to tell y'all about the long weekend I had in Western New York. I took a very special trip up to Phil's hometown of Rochester, NY, for a special 35mm screening of Owning Mahowny—which ended up being one of the best nights of my life. TL;DR I met his family and got to tell them how much he is loved ❤️
As some of you might know, the Eastman Museum in Rochester is now the permanent home of PSH's statue, and to celebrate, the museum's Dryden Theatre is showing his films all year long. I've been dying to see Phil's hometown and especially the statue since it was unveiled last year and finally made it (many hours and several hundred miles in the rain) up to WNY for a couple days. Y'all I can't even tell you how excited I was just to be in Rochester, like geeking over everything. We visited Fairport, where Phil grew up, and went to a restaurant with a burger named after him (yum), and got his fave kind of donuts at the Wegmans where he worked as a cashier in high school (I told you, geeking HARD). It's such a nice, friendly city and so many little things about Phil clicked just being there.
We went to the Eastman Museum first thing Saturday morning to see his statue and it's so perfect. Yes I cried a little bit as soon as I walked up to it! I don't need to tell y'all how much Phil means to me and finally seeing this public tribute to him, which looks so good and is so approachable and huggable and real and lovely, was amazing. Passed it four times going in and out of the museum and made my mom take my photo with him every time :-)
That night was the 35mm screening of Owning Mahowny. Already one of my favorite PSH films, I recently finished the book it's based on—No Limit: The Incredible Obsession of Brian Molony by Gary Ross—which is just as engrossing and made me even more excited to rewatch the film on the big screen. We were the first people to the theater bc I was so anxious to be there lmao.
I recognized Phil's mother, Marilyn, and his older sister, Jill, who arrived about 20 minutes before the film and sat a few seats away. My anxiety was through the ROOF—I am very shy in person, but I knew I'd regret it if I didn't say anything and since this was a PSH-related event I figured they probably wouldn't mind if I brought him up. Thanks to Phil I have a hundred times more confidence than I did just a few years ago, so I worked up my courage and went over to introduce myself, tell them my name and how far I came just to see the statue and the film, how much I admire Phil and his work.
Y'all I'm tearing up again just typing this because they were the nicest people I have ever met in my life, seriously. His mom and his sister were immediately so kind that my nerves melted away, it was like talking to friends. They were touched that I'd come so far, they thanked ME for coming over to say hello. I shook their hands and we had a whole conversation for several minutes—I got to tell them that Phil changed my life, how I've seen all of his films, the ways he's inspired me to make my own art. I can't even believe I am writing this because it was so surreal and incredible. They asked me so much about my trip and myself, which is cute because I've heard so many stories about how Phil always asked people about themselves, their lives, their families, their work. His mom asked if I'd seen the statue (of course!!!) and told me to make sure I took a selfie with him :''''') so obviously I took another one when we left <3
Jill and I talked about Owning Mahowny and gambling while my mom talked to Phil's mom (like how is it even real that I'm saying that?), then Marilyn told a funny, sweet story about when Phil was filming Mahowny in Toronto in 2002. One day he called and asked to come home for a while, then drove down and spent the day with her watching hours of dailies of the same exact shot, scrutinizing each take and laboriously trying to decide on the best one—and his mom was like, "Phil, what are we searching for, these all look the same to me" LMAO 😭
The film itself was obviously amazing, no need for a full review here. Equally wonderful to share it with a big audience laughing, cringing, gasping, crying, smiling. The 35mm print looked beautiful. As we were leaving, Phil's sister made a point to catch my eye and thank me again for stopping to say hello! We said goodbye to her and Marilyn and they wished us a great rest of our trip to Niagara Falls the next day—it was so sweet they remembered I'd even mentioned it.
I hardly slept that night I was so excited lol. It's been two days and it still feels surreal. I'm repeating myself but I can't get over how warm and kind they both were, how we were all kind of moved almost to the point of tears talking about their beautiful son and brother, my hero, the artist and man who saved my life and brought us all together. I'm so so so grateful for the opportunity to tell them what Phil means to me. Since then I've had a million thoughts like "oh I wish I'd said this or that," but really it would be impossible to sum up in words, even if we had all the time in the world, everything I want to say. I said it before but it's easy to understand how Phil turned out to be such an amazing person, coming from a family like that.
One of the simplest yet most meaningful couple of days in my whole life. It was better than I could've hoped for. Mostly joy—and while there was some grieving and missing him, too, I know it all came from love. I feel closer to Phil than ever. Thank you for making me feel so welcome in your home, Phil. Words are never enough but I love you so much, we're all so proud of you.
#philip seymour hoffman#psh#*#words#I don't even know how to tag this!!!! the craziest best thing to ever happen to me!#btw the hoffman burger kicked ass. it was so good I wasn't hungry for the rest of the weekend literally

What I'm watching
Summer Strike 1-5: I went into Summer Strike to compare it with Welcome to Samdal-ri, and found it so contrasting it borders on symmetry. Unlike Samdal, Yeo-reum, our heroine, is so anonymous that her mother's death feels like it never happened, this catastrophe barely puncturing the routine of her corporate grind. And Yeo-reum is a stranger to Andok, the sleepy seaside town she retires to as she tries to cherish time in her life again. There's fun perspective switching in the early episodes. Yeo-reum wanders through Andok with hazy whimsy, blossoms in the air, the sea; but the townsfolk are grounded in very specific interiors as they discuss and negotiate her place in their town. Already, without her even knowing, they've fitted her into the politics of their small world. Yeo-reum runs away to Andok to get her time back and she's very lucky that she can do that, because others are desperate to leave for Seoul. The synergy between Seoul and Andok is very real, and more nuanced than anything WTS tried to pull. Success isn't guaranteed in Seoul, peace isn't guaranteed in Andok, & happiness isn't guaranteed in either. Bom, the high-schooler she meets, needs an escape - her poverty and dysfunctional family feel magnified by Andok's smallness and the intense judgement of its people. Bom and Yeo-reum's sisterhood is so touching, and it wouldn't happen if Yeo-reum wasn't an outsider, wasn't presenting a vision of an adulthood not defined by desperation. I love them so much 🥹 The direction and performances are brilliant, especially Shin Eun-soo (Bom) and Park Ye-young (Ji-young).
No Gain No Love 1-4: Cannot believe how fun this show is. It hits its emotional beats with surprising effectiveness - I was seriously moved by the wedding, where Hae-young's foster siblings visit (and mourn) her mom, who can't remember them. And I vibe with its humour so much its almost embarrassing. Hae-young and her sisters are the perfect trio. People were lamenting pairing The Shin Min-ah with Kim Young-dae (very valid), & I was sure I'd enjoy the secondary couple more (with my fav Lee Sang-yi) - but that has not been the case! Kim Young-dae has outgrown the stiltedness that plagues these pretty boy actors, and his chemistry with Shin Min-ah is palpable. It helps that the show isn't afraid of sex and Hae-young is an assertive adult woman who knows exactly what she wants. NGNL isnt deep but its very honest and true to itself. I'd forgotten that you could write a romcom with characters that felt "real".
Perfect Family 1-6: My Sky Castle parents are back!! Kim Byung-chul & Yoon Se-ah have the most striking, photographable faces, which makes them the perfect pair for a gorgeously directed slow-burn thriller about two parents nestled in secrets, a mystery to their increasingly paranoid daughter. It's very slow moving so far, building up tension + expectations - I'm hoping what it's building up to is worth it. But I'm enjoying the slow-burn so far.
Beauty and Mr Romantic 1-40:
loll but in all seriousness, I've enjoyed my (re)discovery of charming Im Soo-hyang (which led me to check out My ID, one of the best things I've watched this year); I've enjoyed chatting abt it w/ the lovely people on Dramabeans, I've enjoyed the weekend check-in on this show's insanity. So it's not like I'm not having fun, but this show really, really, really doesn't want to be liked. I'm sure writer-nim is doing this on purpose - psychos outnumber sensible characters 6:1, and the writing goes out of its way to be as mean and low as possible. I never expected much from it, but there was a point where it was cute, and now it just seems determined to sink itself on its own aimless cynicism.

(Lana's POV)
We're engaged! Parker proposed on a wonderful night in Myshuno Meadows park. It was such a surprise to me because I genuinely thought I'd be able to tell when it happened, so for me to be surprised is just another cherry on top of the happiness sundae!
We had plans to head to San Myshuno for this conference on relationships that Reece & Stacie's church was hosting in the city, at the time time my parents got an invite from some family friends to visit, so I flew in with them and my sister . Parker's parents were invited to speak at the conference, so them being in the city wasn't a surprise to me either. The conference was definitely a blessing, who would've thought that I'd be able to apply the notes I was making in the not so distant future!
Maggie, Shane, Reece, and Stacie also all attended the conference with us, so it was a great bonding session for us all. I feel so blessed that Parker's sisters and sisters-in-law have taken me in and treated me like family since we met, and now we're going to actually be family soon! After the conference was over we went for a large family dinner the next day since we had a long weekend, after dinner Parker and I branched off with the siblings and we headed out and got some hot chocolate and nice winter desserts as it started to slowly start snowing. Maggie suggested we go into the park and appreciate the nice view with the snow and maybe get some pictures, and as we were walking the boys headed off towards the park whilst us girls got caught up taking pictures.
As the girls and I walked into the park and got into the area by the gazebo, Maggie and Stacie both told me I had to wear a blindfold for what would happen next. I went along with it and started walking and reach what I know to be the gazebo that's in the park. When at the gazebo the blindfold is taken off of me and replaced with Parker's hand and we walk further down - at this point I knew that the proposal was happening but didn't want to believe it. As we were walking, Parker was reminding me of our conversations about the future and what my 'dream' proposal would be like, and as I was agreeing is when he lifted his hand off my face and I saw the ring and all the decor!
In that moment, time stood still as Parker began quoting "I have found the one whom my soul loveth" and got on one knee and asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. It was all so surreal, I don't think I said yes for a good 2 or 3 minutes until Parker asked me again. It was only after he put the ring on that I zoned back in and realised that Maggie was photographing the whole thing and our parents and siblings (well, my sister and then some of Parker's) were just outside the gazebo waiting to celebrate with us! Parker made my dream proposal come true, outside with the snow falling and our families surrounding us.
Our mamas were the first people onto the gazebo to celebrate with us, and they took this cute picture with us. They started planning the wedding as we stood in the gazebo! It's such a blessing that we have such wonderful parents, Parker is the 11th of his parent's children to get married and his mother is still overjoyed with each engagement and wedding that comes in to the family. My mama has been praying for this moment her entire life, and is rejoicing now that it's coming true for her.
My parents love Parker to bits from the moment they got to meet him, he fits right in with us. Before we started dating, my parents decided to upgrade our 4 person dining table to a 6 person one, what incredibly forward thinking. Parker fits right in at family dinners, and is like the son my parents never had, when he comes to visit sometimes my dad will take him out with other guys from church and they'll do different activities from time to time. Out in Oasis Springs the desert doesn't provide you with much recreational activity, but they still found a way to bond.
Parker's parents, siblings and their spouses have made me feel so welcomed into their family. From inviting me to whole family events, to his sisters and sisters-in-law inviting me out with them, as well as inviting me, my mama, and my sister out to different outings and events. I can't wait to officially join the family and be Mrs.Collins! Let the wedding planning begin!

Landcaster Legacy Gen 7 Update #49
Dear Diary, Well, term break is almost over. The last three weeks have been absolutely amazing, I feel like I learned so much about music, and I definitely think I'm a much better singer and song writer after the last few weeks. My mom will be here soon to pick me up. -Violet
While Mads headed to Del Sol Valley to pick Violet up, Nat came over to help Leo pack, so he'd be ready to move to college in the morning. "I'm so excited for you to go, but it's making me sad at the same time," she admitted. "I can come back any weekend, just tell me when."
"I can always come to Britechester too," Nat pulled her phone out. "I just have to find a weekend my mothers are free to watch Sawyer." "Whatever works for you," Leo told her. "It might be a bit easier to be alone if I come visit you," Nat explained.
"Speaking of being alone," Nat scooted a bit closer to him. "If you know what I mean…" Leo let out a nervous laugh, "I think I do understand what you mean." "LEO!" shouted a voice from behind the door.
A moment later, Lacy burst through the door. "I need your advice." "About what?" he asked clearly annoyed. "Bad timing much?" "What do I do about Owen?" "What happened with Owen?" he asked. "You two are friends." "Yes, and?" "What do I do?" "ABOUT WHAT?" "He didn't tell you?"
Lacy explained everything that had happened at the pier a few weeks ago. "If you like him, just tell him that," Nat tried to advise her. "I can't though," Lacy said. "Then what do you want him to do?" Nat asked. "I don't know," Lacy complained. "That's where Leo comes in."
Violet burst through the front door. "HELLO!" she yelled. "THE FAVORITE CHILD IS BACK." When nobody came rushing to greet her, Violet frowned. "I've only been gone for three weeks on the other side of the save file, and nobody missed me?" she called out.
Ethan came down the stairs. "Sorry sweetheart. was putting the twins down for a nap. It's been a hectic day." "I'm home now though! I can tell you all about my trip!" "I'd love to hear about it, but I have some chores to finish, can we talk about this during dinner." "Sure."
Soon, Lacy burst into the room. "Hey!" she exclaimed. "How was it? I bet Del Sol was amazing, you need to tell me all about it!" "Finally, someone is excited to hear what I have to say!" Violet quickly recanted all of her tales from Del Sol Valley. "So, what about you?" she asked
"So, yeah," Lacy finished. "I really don't know what to do about Owen, and he leaves for college tomorrow." "First off," Violet began. "This Maggie sounds like a bitch, and second of all, why did you go to Leo of all people for advice?" Lacy shrugged, "I don't know."
The girls headed upstairs so Violet could get unpacked. When she was finished, they sat down on the couch. "Seriously, though," Lacy asked. "What do I do?" "I'm going to be real with you for a second," Violet admitted.
"I know how much you like Owen, although I don't understand why," "Vi!" "Okay, okay," Violet rolled her eyes. "Seriously though, if you aren't willing to fix all of your problems in order to be with him, then I think you have to let him walk away." "I don't want to hurt him."
"I know you don't want to hear this, but that's exactly why I think you need to let him walk away. Stringing him along is just going to hurt him more." "What if he marries Maggie?" Lacy asked. "We're 17, it's a little early to be thinking about marriage," said Violet, horrified.
Lacy let out an agonizing sigh, "I guess you're right," she grudgingly agreed. "Oh," said Violet. "I know I am."

Chapter 12 - Save me
By mid-January, classes had already started. Emm was more than thankful when one of her boring professors ended the class earlier. She used that free time to visit her boyfriend at the restaurant where he worked. Fortunately, Yoongi was on one of his breaks, so they could sit down and talk while having a drink.
"You didn't have to bother coming all the way here." Yoongi shyly commented.
"Bother? Why'd it bothered me coming to see you? You're crazy if you think I'd miss seeing you so shy."
“How annoying…” he whispered as she laughed.
"Cute!" Quickly and without anyone seeing them, Emmy pinched the musician's cheeks, something she loved doing because they were so soft. Of course, Yoongi didn't enjoy it that much and his bitter cat face got worse every time she did it.
"If you stop doing this, I'll show you something I have for you."
"What is it? Tell me!" She ordered looking for something Yoongi had nearby, but besides the hot tea in front of him, there was nothing.
Finally, the boy took something out of his pocket and placed it on the table. There were two tickets for…
"Are we going to the fair together?" Emmy's excited cry nearly deafens Yoongi; to tell the truth, it left him unable to hear properly for a few seconds. The girl had been asking him non-stop for at least two weeks, but Yoongi kept saying no, until he finally gave in to her.
“There are TWO conditions if you want me to give you your ticket.” He warned raising his left eyebrow. “First, NO roller coasters.”
"What if I get on and you wait for me?"
"Deal." He said nodding his head.
"What's the second?" Emmy's question was accompanied by a mischievous smile on the musician's face.
“You'll stay at my house for the weekend. Jin has a trip and…”
"Deal." Said the girl without caring about anything else and taking the ticket from her boy's hand, who smiled looking at her. “Can we go on your motorcycle?”
“Do you really like it that much?”
"I can hug you without you complaining or telling me I'm choking you, of course I like it!"
“Hey… don't make me look so bad. I don't complain when you hug me."
"Yes you do, and you do when I squeeze your cheeks."
“I do it because some days ago I appeared on the radio with red cheeks. They all asked me what had happened to me. I swear I looked like Pikachu.”
Time passed quickly between them laughing, but soon Yoongi had to go back inside. Meanwhile, Emmy would wait for him, she would stay at the same table; after all, she already had several assignments piling up. But before the musician left, Emm took his hand and Yoongi felt something in it.
“Tomorrow at 2:00.”
"Huh?"
Not understanding what she was talking about, Yoongi opened his hand and saw a doctor's card. He recognized the name just by looking at it, he was the best orthopedist in Korea. His brother had mentioned him, but only to refer to how impossible it was for someone like him to see his mother. Had Emmy actually gotten it?
"Make sure she goes."
“Emm, this is impossible, we tried to contact him, but his secretary told us that there's no space for new patients and the price is…”
"Yoongs, hush."
"But freckles..."
"He'll take care of your mom, don't worry about it anymore, okay?"
"Emm, we can't afford this."
“Just take her to the appointment, forget about the rest. Now, come on… you need to work, you don't want to get fired.” She said pushing him.
The whole drive home was about Emmy and Yoongi talking about the doctor's appointment thing. It was very challenging to persuade him to accept the help, but in the end, he did. He did it for his mother, of course, but also because he had made an effort to change certain attitudes that were getting him nowhere, and one of those was not accepting help. Also, Emmy was doing it so selflessly and honestly that Yoongi couldn't say no. According to Yoongi, they agreed that it would be a temporary help and that Yoongi would return all medical expenses to her later. Emmy said yes just to go along with him, but she knew she wouldn't accept anything from Yoongi.
Later, the couple had their piano lesson, then prepared dinner together and ate it while watching a basketball match in the comfort of Emmy's couch. It wasn't something the girl commonly did, but she knew Yoongi was passionate about the sport and it was an important game. To tell the truth, it wasn't that bad, seeing Yoongi that thrilled ended up being very funny. But even more comic was how offended he was that Emmy had fallen asleep. It was enough for the girl to rest her head for a moment on Yoongi's shoulder so that in seconds she would already have snored. After that incident, the musician made sure to ask her every two minutes if she was awake, something that became so irritating that Emm kicked him so he could leave her alone. It wasn't in Emmy's plans to kick him so aggressively; however, Yoongi had caught her about to fall asleep again and that aroused her anger.
While putting ice on Yoongi's leg so the pain could numb, Emmy couldn't suppress her laughter. Yoongi kept whining, even pouting, because of how hard she had hit him.
"I'd NEVER wake you up again. Not only did I end up injured, but I also couldn't finish watching the game."
“Don't be such a crybaby. You didn't even pay attention to the game because you kept bullying me. See what I'm telling you, Yoongs? You can't be without me, you can't even bear to watch a game without me." She teased tickling him until the musician took her hands.
“You are saved ONLY because I must leave early so I can take mom to her appointment.”
“I can tell Mr. Siu to take you." She offered talking about her driver. "I wouldn't mind walking to class with Hobi."
"No, princess, it's enough." He said tucking her hair behind her ear. "You've already helped me more than I can thank you for."
"But…"
Yoongi silenced her with a sweet kiss on the forehead. "Go to sleep, no more practice for today."
“Good luck with your mom. I'm sure the doctor will help you and sooner than you think, she'll be fine. Call me when you're out of the doctor's appointment."
Yoongi agreed with a smile, and after thanking Emmy again, he left.
************
The next morning, Emmy had barely woken up when there was a knock on the door. She didn't quite understand why her driver was there so early and why he was dressed so formally.
"Miss, you have to hurry up, we must go!"
“Mr. Siu, what are you talking about? Where are we going? My classes haven't started yet."
“The flight, we're gonna miss the flight! Remember how upset the pilot was the last time you and Mr. Woosung made him wait for two hours.”
"Flight? No… I don't have any scheduled flights.”
"Miss Emmy, you went out yesterday, right?" No… that wasn't it, he knew Emmy, he knew how she woke up when she had gone to a party the night before. He was more than used to seeing her with a headache and in a bad mood from a hangover, and that morning she didn't look like that, she just seemed lost. "Oh no! Please don't tell me you didn't read Hana's emails again." Hana was Emmy's legal representative, she was in charge of dealing with family legal matters, but Emmy had a terrible habit of forgetting to read what she sent her.
That's how she took her cell phone and searched directly for Hana's latest email. The last thing she expected was to see that she was forwarding an email from her family's lawyer's office.
"Shit!" She cursed reading the summons.
The girl had managed to stay moderately away from the family business while she was studying, she knew that once she graduated, she would have to work with them, but in the meantime, she could avoid awkward encounters with her sister and her father.
Emmy had been more than honest with Hana about how sour her relationship with her family was. She had expressed her wish to have nothing to do with them unless it was absolutely necessary, which was the case that morning. There would be a meeting with the Italian shareholders. Emmy's mother was Italian, which allowed the family business to expand. To tell the truth, the Italian cases generated even more money than the Korean ones, which was why they had constant meetings in Italy. Normally, Emmy would get Hanna to take her place, but when it was meetings with the foreign shareholders, that is, the family on her mother's side, there was no other option but to attend. As much as Seri and Emmy herself would have loved to get rid of that obligation, the email said very clearly that she must attend.
"Shit..." She repeated still in shock and with the cell phone in her hand. Not only would she have to face her sister, but she would also have to deal with her father and make decisions about things she had no interest in at all. Then, there would be a dinner, where she would be forced to sit next to Seri and then everything would go downhill.
Emmy could mentally depict what that night would be like and the worst part was that they were not imaginary scenarios because when it came to her family, the reality was always worse than fiction, everything always turned out worse than imagined.
Although there was something not THAT terrible, if it was a meeting with her mother's family, her cousins would be there, and even though Seri had tried several times, she hadn't succeeded in completely ruining Emmy's relationship with them. At least someone wouldn't ignore her at the meeting. It wasn't that her aunts and uncles were nasty people, but they were too busy making money and winning cases to pay any attention to the youngest heiress.
Hana managed to keep Emmy from sharing a plane with her father or Seri. The family had two private planes, one owned by her father and used by no one but him, not even Seri. The second plane was taken in turns by the two sisters and their assistants always made sure that they did not coincide. However, it had not been easy to get the sisters to travel with different schedules. Naturally, the one who had the worst part was Emmy. Seri would arrive in Italy earlier, she would have time to rest, Emmy would take an exhausting flight of almost twelve hours; then, a driver would be waiting for her to take her to her family's offices.
Despite so much agitation, Emmy managed to take the flight. If it hadn't been for Mr. Siu's help, the consequences of Emmy not going to that meeting would have been catastrophic.
However, it was enough for Emmy to get on that plane for the anxiety and intrusive thoughts to start choking her. Unfortunately, the hands she held onto to try to survive those crises were even deadlier than the first ones, they choked her in a different and deadlier way. Those hands were disguised as fine jewelry that Emmy took out of her bag. They all shared one characteristic, all the pieces of jewelry had clasps, which housed various types of drugs. She could choose what she wanted, she had complete freedom, she always had, the question was, how did she want to feel? Did she need peace? Or maybe a small dose of euphoria?
It was painfully sad to see such a young girl succumb to drugs like that. She had friends who adored her and a boyfriend who would die for her. There were other options for her, but Emmy had never allowed them to offer a hand; after all, accepting an addiction problem was not easy for anyone.
She chose how she wanted to evade her reality. However, the episode of guilt and regret that followed was dreadful. She had stayed clean for quite some time, longer than she had lasted before, however, some seconds were enough for Emmy to ruin all that progress.
As expected, the meeting turned out to be unbearably awkward, and though she tried not to make eye contact with her sister, Seri missed no opportunity to bug her in countless ways.
Dinner was no less uncomfortable, every time one of her cousins came up to talk to her, Seri got to avoid it. In fact, the only thing stopping Seri from making a fool of her little sister in front of everyone was that, like it or not, she and Emmy shared a last name, and it would be terribly humiliating if her name were in the same sentence as an incompetent girl.
More than once Emmy excused herself to go to the bathroom and consume something that would help her endure such an evening, but she couldn't abuse it either, if she lost control of herself, Seri would notice. Emm just needed enough drugs to stand firm and not collapse with her sister's comments and her father's apathy and indifference.
Emm was nailing it, but Seri's slam dunk was just waiting for the perfect moment.
Emmy had been silent until one of her cousins asked her what she thought about how the case of a politician accused of corruption would be handled. Seri had already said a few hours ago what they would do. Since it was an important case and she was such a competent lawyer, nobody said a word. Yet, Emmy identified a mistake that, while it seemed small, could bring down the entire case. For obvious reasons she didn't say anything, she would never dare to interrupt her sister. However, when her cousin asked her, she had just consumed a little more and the adrenaline rush led her to speak. Emmy hated the legal profession, but to Seri's bad luck, her sister was too smart and she had just proved it without intending it.
Everyone at the table heard her speak and their jaws dropped. Since when was little Emmy so sharp? It was what everyone wondered about. Even her father looked at her intently and then directed a cold look of disappointment at Seri, who took the cup tightly while showing a fake smile while the conversation continued.
"Looks like the college classes are paying off, little sis." Seri commented combing Emmy's hair with her hands. Having her that close was so threatening that Emm felt her hands begin to shake as Seri leaned a little closer to speak into her ear. "Too bad Mom can't be here. Who knows? Maybe seeing you being such a good lawyer would make her forget about the depression she fell into when you were born, the same one that destroyed her. But anyway... we'll never know, she's eternally lying sedated, unconscious, she's dead in life. Luckily you're here taking her place, our little and sweet Emmy." She whispered showing her a twisted smile.
What happened after those words was erased from Emmy's memory. The drug abuse and the shock of her older sister's comment blocked Emmy's thoughts for some time. She wasn't even able to feel the tears that ran down her cheeks from the moment she said goodbye, until she got to the hotel room.
Although that comment was the trigger to relapse, it was nothing new for Emmy, that was the type of relationship she had with her sister.
Of course it hurt every time they met, but she had learned a long time ago to direct all that pain in another direction, hence the parties, drugs, and excesses.
Normally, when she was forced to attend meetings in Italy, she took the opportunity to visit some friends, whose mansions in Capri exceeded any expectations. However, this time she didn't feel as excited to go, she preferred to be at home, watching a basketball game with Yoongi, and playing the piano with him.
"Yoongi!" She squeaked when she realized that among all the madness, she hadn't been able to talk to him.
************
The day before in Korea, at around 4 in the afternoon, Yoongi was already leaving the doctor's appointment with his brother and mother. Although it was not the musician's preferred option, he had to tell his mother that he knew everything about her illness and that from now on, he would be more present. As Emmy told him, the doctor proposed several options, treatments so novel that the family couldn't even imagine, but that would help Yoongi's mother to recover soon. As effective as they were, they were expensive, but when Yoongi tried to talk to the doctor's secretary, she looked at him confused, she didn't understand why he kept asking her how much he owed.
"There must be a misunderstanding, the doctor told me that he won't charge you."
“But, what about the treatments, the medications, the surgery that…?”
“You don't have to worry, all those expenses have been covered. I think we'd better talk about your mother's exams. Could you check that this is the correct address to which we are going to send the results?"
Yoongi confirmed that it was his email, but looking down at the name of the owner of the card that everything had been charged, he was dumbfounded.
"What did you do, freckles?"
She was supposed to help him pay just the date doctor's appointment, not everything else.
“Yoongi, is something wrong?” Geumjae asked coming closer once he saw his younger brother's face. “It's a lot of money, right? Don't worry, we'll find a way to…”
"Let's go home, hyung, mom needs to rest." He interrupted walking in front of his brother.
The rest of the day Yoongi tried to contact Emmy, but he was puzzled that the girl didn't answer his messages or calls. Even more strange seemed to him the fact that she had not written to ask him about his mother's appointment. He knew that Emmy was not the type of person who let something important slip by.
The hours went by and when it was time to go to bed, Yoongi got worried, Emmy had never disappeared like that. He didn't want to be a suffocating boyfriend, maybe she needed a little time… He would try to talk to her the next day.
Yet, that wasn't that simple. Yoongi didn't sleep well that night, he dwelled on numerous topics such as the huge sum of money he owed Emm and how he would pay it. He was also tormented by the idea of the girl thinking he was taking advantage of her, which could not be further from the truth. But the most he thought about was why he hadn't heard from her all day.
Yoongi, the person with the worst communication in a relationship, the person with the least attachment was worried that he hadn't talked to his girlfriend. It was not the fact of not knowing about her that anguished him, because no one respected someone's personal space and free time more than Min Yoongi, it was about how strange it was not to hear about Emmy.
Like night and day, the two of them had been like that since day one. Yoongi barely saw the cell phone, while Emm texted him constantly, Yoongi fell asleep and she called him to tease him and wake him up. So it was indeed strange that she hadn't written to him, even more so considering his mother's appointment.
At around five in the morning the next day, Yoongi's cell phone rang. That night his sleep was so annoyingly light that by the first buzz, he had already opened his eyes. Seeing Emmy's name on his screen at that hour not only gave him a horrible chill but made him jump up like a spring.
"Freckles! Where are you? Something happened?"
"Yoongs, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm the worst person in the world!" The girl talked until she ran out of breath, and tried to explain everything that had happened and why she hadn't touched her cell phone all day. “What did the doctor say? Is your mother...?"
"Did you eat? Did you get any sleep?"
Yoongi didn't care about the time, nor that she hadn't called him, the only thing that mattered to him was that she was okay. The flight had been very long, and he doubted that she would have enjoyed the meeting with her family.
"But... your mother..."
“Princess, she's alright, everything will be fine thanks to you."
"Aren't you mad?"
"What? Emm, no! I was worried about you. I thought something bad had happened to you."
"Yoongs..." She whispered biting her lip as it began to quiver. It was the first time someone had said something like that to her, the first time someone had expressed sincere concern for her. Emmy couldn't help but feel terribly bad for having relapsed. What would Yoongi say about that? He didn't deserve a partner like that.
"Freckles, what's going on?" he asked turning on his desk lamp when he heard a sob, it was so subtle that he barely managed to hear it. "Are you crying? What happened?"
“No, no… nothing happened. I'm not crying, I must have an allergy, the weather here is a bit different.” The musician was silent because there was something that didn't add up to him, something made him feel a bit restless. “Yoongs, I'm sorry, I know that I promised you that I'd stay with you for the weekend, but I don't think I'll be able to do it."
"Oh... that's bad news." He said sighing. "But it's okay, don't worry about it. We'll come up with something to send Jin away for another weekend."
“What about our date at the fair?”
“Baby, that can wait. Please get some rest, It must be around ten o'clock. Did you have dinner? Just eating dessert doesn't count." Yoongi's comment brought out a smile, for that's what she had done, she hadn't eaten during dinner, she had only tried a bit of dessert. "Don't go to sleep without eating, okay?"
After asking once more if everything was alright, Yoongi and Emmy ended the call, but not before making sure they would talk later. However, the girl did not think of going to sleep. She felt especially ashamed to return home and look Yoongi in the eye after taking drugs again.
It was not true that she could not go back to Korea on time, she could perfectly take a commercial flight in case her family's plane was not available. She could also use one of the planes from her friends in Capri, they had offered them to her many times and both she and Woosung had used them to attend such ostentatious parties. However, she couldn't see Yoongi yet, not after doing drugs as she had all day, and as she would for the rest of the week…
