What I'm watching
Summer Strike 1-5: I went into Summer Strike to compare it with Welcome to Samdal-ri, and found it so contrasting it borders on symmetry. Unlike Samdal, Yeo-reum, our heroine, is so anonymous that her mother's death feels like it never happened, this catastrophe barely puncturing the routine of her corporate grind. And Yeo-reum is a stranger to Andok, the sleepy seaside town she retires to as she tries to cherish time in her life again. There's fun perspective switching in the early episodes. Yeo-reum wanders through Andok with hazy whimsy, blossoms in the air, the sea; but the townsfolk are grounded in very specific interiors as they discuss and negotiate her place in their town. Already, without her even knowing, they've fitted her into the politics of their small world. Yeo-reum runs away to Andok to get her time back and she's very lucky that she can do that, because others are desperate to leave for Seoul. The synergy between Seoul and Andok is very real, and more nuanced than anything WTS tried to pull. Success isn't guaranteed in Seoul, peace isn't guaranteed in Andok, & happiness isn't guaranteed in either. Bom, the high-schooler she meets, needs an escape - her poverty and dysfunctional family feel magnified by Andok's smallness and the intense judgement of its people. Bom and Yeo-reum's sisterhood is so touching, and it wouldn't happen if Yeo-reum wasn't an outsider, wasn't presenting a vision of an adulthood not defined by desperation. I love them so much 🥹 The direction and performances are brilliant, especially Shin Eun-soo (Bom) and Park Ye-young (Ji-young).
No Gain No Love 1-4: Cannot believe how fun this show is. It hits its emotional beats with surprising effectiveness - I was seriously moved by the wedding, where Hae-young's foster siblings visit (and mourn) her mom, who can't remember them. And I vibe with its humour so much its almost embarrassing. Hae-young and her sisters are the perfect trio. People were lamenting pairing The Shin Min-ah with Kim Young-dae (very valid), & I was sure I'd enjoy the secondary couple more (with my fav Lee Sang-yi) - but that has not been the case! Kim Young-dae has outgrown the stiltedness that plagues these pretty boy actors, and his chemistry with Shin Min-ah is palpable. It helps that the show isn't afraid of sex and Hae-young is an assertive adult woman who knows exactly what she wants. NGNL isnt deep but its very honest and true to itself. I'd forgotten that you could write a romcom with characters that felt "real".
Perfect Family 1-6: My Sky Castle parents are back!! Kim Byung-chul & Yoon Se-ah have the most striking, photographable faces, which makes them the perfect pair for a gorgeously directed slow-burn thriller about two parents nestled in secrets, a mystery to their increasingly paranoid daughter. It's very slow moving so far, building up tension + expectations - I'm hoping what it's building up to is worth it. But I'm enjoying the slow-burn so far.
Beauty and Mr Romantic 1-40:
Tumblr media
loll but in all seriousness, I've enjoyed my (re)discovery of charming Im Soo-hyang (which led me to check out My ID, one of the best things I've watched this year); I've enjoyed chatting abt it w/ the lovely people on Dramabeans, I've enjoyed the weekend check-in on this show's insanity. So it's not like I'm not having fun, but this show really, really, really doesn't want to be liked. I'm sure writer-nim is doing this on purpose - psychos outnumber sensible characters 6:1, and the writing goes out of its way to be as mean and low as possible. I never expected much from it, but there was a point where it was cute, and now it just seems determined to sink itself on its own aimless cynicism.

Beauty and Mr. Romantic (K-Drama): Episodes 33 & 34 Review | kdrama review | The Drama Scoop
Tumblr media
Episodes 33 and 34 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic cover the events and aftermath of Soo-yeon’s husband Jin-taek and in-laws learning that she is Pil-seung’s biological mother. Mi-ja, on the other hand, manipulates Ji-young and forces her into a compromising situation yet again, asking her to date Jin-dan. Ji-young is struggling because she has feelings for Pil-seung. This weekend’s episode also suggests a connection between Ae-kyo and Sun-young’s new tenant. Our article “Beauty and Mr. Romantic (K-Drama): Episodes 33 & 34 Review” contains major spoilers.
During the closing credits of episode 34 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic, we see the staff protesting against the drama’s cancellation. Ji-young appears to fall during the process. Furthermore, Sun-young and Hyeon-cheol pay a visit to Jin-taek to ensure that Pil-seung is not fired from the drama. However, Jin-taek appears determined to pull the plug on GOGO Entertainment following Soo-yeon’s betrayal.
Highlights Of Episode 33
Ae-kyo becomes suspicious of Soo-yeon after discovering that she has been hiding a childhood photo of Pil-seung.
The debt collectors kidnap Mi-ja and threaten to kill Do-sik and Do-joon if she doesn’t repay the money or kills herself to avoid paying them back.
Mi-ja goes to Jin-dan’s office and practically manipulates him by using Do-ra’s name to extort money from him. However, he refuses to help her this time around.
Pil-seung takes Ji-young and Ji-young’s grandmother out, rekindling old feelings between them.
When Pil-seung drops Ji-young home, he assures her that he will always be by her side. Jin-dan, on the other hand, spots them together and grows envious.
The debtors begin to press Mi-ja into paying the debt, and she receives an offer from Jin-dan to pay her debt in exchange for being with Ji-young.
Mi-ja manipulates and persuades Ji-young to date Jin-dan in order to save Do-sik and Do-joon.
Ae-kyo has Soo-yeon and Pil-seung’s DNA tested, which confirms that they are mother and son.
Ae-kyo proves that Soo-yeon and Pil-seung are related to Jin-taek and Dae-sook.
When Soo-yeon returns home, Jin-taek, Ae-kyo, and Dae-sook confront her about the situation.
Highlights Of Episode 34
Jin-taek confronts Soo-yeon about Pil-seung being her son, and she accepts. Following this, Jin-taek asks that she leave the house.
Ma-ri struggles after Soo-yeon leaves the house. Following this, Pil-seung and Geum-ja reassure and support her.
After Mi-ja manipulates her, Ji-young reluctantly starts dating Jin-dan. She doesn’t seem interested in him, though.
Soo-yeon goes to Jin-taek’s office and apologizes to him. She goes on to explain her situation to him, but he suggests a separation.
We then see Soo-yeon faint in the office building, after which Pil-seung takes her to the hospital and Sun-young looks after her needs.
Following the major revelation, Jin-dan steps in and does everything he can to remove Pil-seung from the position of drama director at GOGO Entertainment.
After seeing Pil-seung drinking alone, Ji-young joins him and consoles him. When Jin-dan sees them together, he gets furious.
Jin-dan pays a visit to Ji-young’s building and asks that she stay away from Pil-seung.
The drama’s staff protest the APP group’s decision to halt production.
Beauty and Mr. Romantic (K-Drama): Episodes 33 & 34 Review
Positives
In episodes 33 and 34 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic, tensions are at an all-time high. On one hand, Soo-yeon is about to get divorced, and Pil-seung is about to lose his job as director at GOGO Entertainment. Mi-ja, on the other hand, manipulates Ji-young into dating Jin-dan in order to repay her debt. These plot twists will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.
The kdrama has a reputation for presenting outrageous situations, which works well for the show and, ultimately, keeps us coming back for more. In some ways this kdrama is similar to a toxic relationship; the extreme highs and lows act as a drug, keeping you engaged.
Negatives
While the episodes keep you hooked, they can also be frustrating. The kdramacurrently has nothing pleasant going on, which is certainly upsetting to watch. We can only hope that the resolution is worth going through these unpleasant plot twists.
Beauty and Mr. Romantic Episodes 33 & 34: Our Verdict
Overall, episodes 33 and 34 of our favorite K- drama Beauty and Mr. Romantic are entertaining, albeit somewhat unpleasant. The kdrama has also teased some fascinating developments during its credits, so it will be interesting to see where the show goes from here.

Honestly, I'm really excited for Season 3 of Bridgerton for so many reasons, but a big one for me is the representation of bigger/plus-sized girls. Bridgerton is such a massive show with millions of people watching from across the world and I can't wait for people to see a bigger/plus-sized girl being the romantic lead and finding love. (correct me if I'm wrong but) I feel like this is the first time we'll see it so mainstream and it's not gonna be a plot point or something that must be mentioned/noted (not that I hate it when it is but it's annoying when referenced almost every time). Ofc we've seen movies where a "hot" guy falls in love with a plus-sized girl, but he's always the only one. In season 3, we will not only see Penelope and Colin fall in love but we'll see Penelope garner the attention of other gentlemen and be wanted by more than just Colin. Another thing I've seen with the guy who falls in love is he'll say something along the lines of he fell in love with her as a person and not what's on the outside, whereas, with Colin, he very much is attracted to Pen's mind and body (and for haters who say he isn't; read RMB there's PLENTY proof he is). In cases where a plus-sized girl did fall in love with a guy and get a HEA, it seemed surface level or that there should've been more to it, but I definitely think Polin will be different (cause it's Bridgerton ofc it's gonna be deep and we'll get all the details). All in all it's gonna be such a nice refresher to see Penelope getting multiple suitors, being seen as beautiful, and seeing her and Colin's relationship bloom and have such a beautiful love story being told; all the while nothing will need to be said about Penelope's body being different or seen traditionally as less beautiful than any other lady in the ton because she is just as beautiful. I'm so grateful for the representation that we will see in season 3 and can't wait

Portrait of Friedrich Lieder the Younger by Friedrich Johan Gottlieb Lieder, 1834 (Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest)
The stock, lined and stiffened at the sides with whalebone or pig's bristles and arched from the cheeks, is dated as early as 1818. It is best known, however, as the neckpiece of fashionable men from c.1830–c.1840.
— Doriece Colle, Collars, Stocks, and Cravats
Stiffeners of buckram and steel springs were also used, as noted by C. Willett Cunnington and Phillis Cunnington in Handbook of English Costume in the 19th Century.

does anyone else ever think about the fact that Perc’ahlia might not have happened the way it did if Vax hadn’t encouraged Vex to be honest with Percy about her feelings for him because I think about it like 12 times a day

Beauty and Mr. Romantic (K-Drama): Episodes 31 & 32 Review | The Drama Scoop
Tumblr media
In episodes 31 and 32 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic, Pil-seung and his family deal with the aftermath of discovering that Soo-yeon is his biological mother. Ji-young, on the other hand, receives a surprise visit from her grandmother, which causes her grandmother to bond with Pil-seung. Furthermore, after experiencing guilt over abandoning Pil-seung, Soo-yeon considers divorcing Jin-taek. Our article, “Beauty and Mr. Romantic (Kdrama): Episodes 31 & 32 Review” contains major spoilers.
By the end of this weekend’s episodes, the kdrama’s ending credits suggest that Ae-kyo discovers Pil-seung is Soo-yeon’s biological son. Furthermore, after being kidnapped by the loan shark, Mi-ja goes to Jin-dan for money. He agrees to pay her money as long as she does what he says. Given her track record, it is not far-fetched to expect her to pimp out her daughter yet again.
Episode 32 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic concludes with a hint at potential future twists. Given the kdrama’s reputation for mind-blowing plot twists, we may be going too far, but we’re assuming the new tenant has some important connection to one or more of our characters. Could he be Pil-seung’s biological father? Or perhaps he has other ties to an important character on the show, only time will tell.
Highlights Of Episode 31
Pil-seung overhears the chaos in his home and discovers that Soo-yeon is his birth mother.
Ji-young’s grandmother pays a visit to Pil-seung’s home while experiencing a dementia episode.
Pil-seung takes Ji-young’s grandmother to her house, which warms Ji-young’s heart.
Mi-ja isn’t happy with Ji-young’s grandmother’s presence in her house.
When Pil-seung returns home, he reassures Sun-young and Hyeon-cheol that he is their son.
Pil-seung confronts Soo-yeon for deceiving his family, particularly his mother, Sun-young.
Ma-ri is having a difficult time and falls sick because she is unable to visit Pil-seung and his family anymore.
Pil-seung assures Ma-ri that she can see him on occasion and that he thinks of her as his little sister.
Jin-taek pays a visit to Sun-young to resolve the conflict between her and Soo-yeon. However, she does not tell him anything about the issue at hand.
Jin-taek uses gifts to try to cheer Soo-yeon up. However, she breaks down when he tries to figure out what’s wrong so he can help her.
Highlights Of Episode 32
Soo-yeon asks Jin-taek for a divorce and leaves the house.
Ma-ri visits Soo-yeon and tries to persuade her to stay married to her father. However, Soo-yeon is filled with guilt and wishes to go abroad.
Ma-ri, unable to cope with her parents’ potential divorce, goes to a bar on her own.
After learning that she has gone missing, Pil-seung and Soo-yeon find Ma-ri at a bar.
After witnessing Ma-ri’s struggle, Pil-seung persuades Soo-yeon to stay married to Jin-taek.
Pil-seung takes Ji-young and her grandmother out into the city.
Ji-young tears up after seeing her grandmother happy while spending time with Pil-seung.
Jin-dan takes Tae-hee wedding dress shopping, but he can’t stop thinking about Do-ra.
Jin-dan discovers Mi-ja beneath her home and begs her to help him see Ji-young, who reminds him of Do-ra.
The loan sharks find Mi-ja and kidnap her because she owes them money.
Beauty and Mr. Romantic (K-drama): Episodes 31 & 32 Review
Positives
The k-Drama has always excelled at keeping viewers guessing with jaw-dropping plot twists, and episodes 31 & 32 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic were no exception. The show has handled Pil-seung and his family’s discovery of his biological mother in the most dramatic way possible, which is largely what makes the show so entertaining.
Tumblr media
Ji-Young’s grandmother appears and entertains us in Beauty and Mr. Romantic episodes 31 and 32, adding to the humor. Her jabs at Mi-Ja are particularly amusing because she does what viewers want to do to her.
Negatives
While episodes 31 and 32 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic contain numerous amusing, entertaining, and dramatic moments, they also have flaws. What makes the K-Drama so addictive is also what makes it seem ridiculous at times: drama.
Beauty and Mr. Romantic has a tendency to overdo its drama to the point of melodrama, which can be annoying. Many viewers have complained about the physical violence on the show, which is a valid criticism. In terms of drama, the K-Drama occasionally loses its footing and deviates into unpleasant territory.
Beauty & Mr. Romantic: Our Verdict
Overall, episodes 31 and 32 of Beauty and Mr. Romantic provided an entertaining ride with plenty of amusing and dramatic moments. However, the show tends to overdo drama to increase its entertainment value. However, this does not detract from the show’s appeal, as it continues to entertain us week after week.

call me crazy but feel like rog does remember his and v’s anniversary. did he do anything, ever, for his and laura’s, other than toasting burke in prison (by himself)? no he did not. could he tell you her birthday after ten years of marriage? probably not. however. v melts into an absolute puddle even if he does the barest possible minimum on her birthday / anniversaries / etc. ditches work to stay with her and surprise her with flowers. wakes her up with smooches & breakfast in bed ( he did not make it he's just delivering ). anniversaries they'd definitely take off to boston or new york for the weekend, birthdays though she'd want to spend at home. not for a party oh god forbid but just to be surrounded by family, maybe some time out on the boat, a little séancing to hang out with her ghost besties too.
not to be all "she was born in a wet cardboard box all alone" but having hard dates to celebrate, and feeling really loved on the birthday she has, the real anniversary she has, is soooo important to her. she needs those tangible markers to hold onto. and it's not like taking his pretty little wife out dancing is a chore, either.
