People will claim to be a fan of some thing and then hate all of the themes and motifs and story lines and plot lines and protagonists and antagonists like man I don’t think that you actually like it here
#to be fair. it’s hard to let go of something you loved bc it used to be so damn good (or at the very least enjoyable — see: MCU for me)#i clung onto that franchise a lot longer than i should have because i loved the world and the characters even as the media itself became#as frustrating as it did. and i think that’s the case for a lot of fans of long-running franchises. they remember when it used to be#great and they’re still here because they’ve become so attached to the characters or bc they have hope that it’ll be good again someday#and then they feel disappointed and betrayed when the quality of said media doesn’t live up to its previous seasons/films#anyway i don’t actually disagree with you OP. i think if a piece of media is more upsetting than enjoyable it’s better to stop engaging#with it for your own sake above everything. my tags are mostly me reflecting on what i’ve been seeing in my current fandom (911)#re. fans being unhappy with current canon and still staying in fandom#fandom
