What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I really hate to say this but probably my Single Dads AU. She's so beefy and the size of it has scared the hell out of me. As much as I love it, I don't think it gets as much traction as other wips and the beans just haven't been there.

What are your writing strengths?

I honestly don't know, I think I can write smut pretty well? And I'm not bad at cute stuff. The honest truth is I am extremely insecure about my writing abilities and think I'm average at best.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I struggle with dialogue as I often feel like I'm being too OOC. Also descriptions. I spend the most time sitting there thinking of how tf to describe something.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I can google translate pet names and that's where I draw the line. I don't want people to say that I'm saying stuff wrong.

First fandom you wrote in?

Marvel and Sherlock, at the same time.

Favorite fic you've written?

Play me like a fiddle is my labour of love and the fact that it flopped the way it did made me so sad. My next favourite would be You've got me whipped (Brat!Buck BDSM fic) cause it was so out of my comfort zone but I feel like I did it well, or In a drought I'll give you water because I have never been funnier in a fic than in this one.

I try to, as much as I can now! I wasn’t too good at it when I first started writing fic about a year ago-ish, but I’ve come to like the interaction with people :)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

either uncharted (bc it basically was a prequel fic to SVU ROTPS (back door pilot to Organized Crime) OR Purgatory (which basically was EO stuck together in hiding but it’s just them *not talking* featuring an unused shotgun).

Idk I try to end my fics on a happy note bc that’s just the type of person I am.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

THIS IS HARD — like I said, I really try to end on a positive note because I love to wrap things up in a cutesy little bow but maybe geocache or bankers box since those are coming home stories.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I did once, but I’ve since learned the art of comment moderation 🫡

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I’m inclined to say no, but that would be a lie. I did in like 1 AU pilots fic. People said they liked it (maybe?) but I also am super uncomfortable writing it. It was a nice challenge to write it and to get out of my comfort zone.

SVU/OC live in the same universe, so while technically a crossover, I’m not going to count it here.

Right now, it’s EO bc they’re the ship that got me to dive head first into all things fandom.

….. gonna have crickets here…..

it’s not that I don’t like my 2 WIPs, it’s just that I think I bite off more than I can chew with both of them and I have second hand embarrassment from them now.

I also prefer to live in oneshot heaven 😇

Not sure… I like to think I can write a loosely enough connected thread to make a storyline come out of the woodworks… but I also don’t know exactly.

Oh most definitely grammar.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I’ve done it! It’s fun and at least for the EO ship, it’s a playground bc it’s a detail that we as fans know but the writers room seems to ignore/not sure how to incorporate it. Live laugh love continuity.

oh gosh… this feels like a toss up because I have a few I always rec to people… this is her story holds a special place in my heart, but I also ADORE bankers box and geocache. Probably those 3 I feel like best represent my work, but I have little pieces of my heart deposited into all my writing 🫶

5, if we count my Newsies/Supergirl crossover for both fandoms. The others are Glee, Riverdale, and Call the Midwife. (God, that’s eclectic to list.)

1. But Now I See, my blind!Kurt/sighted!Blaine fic. (Tbh, I don’t love that I took this prompt and made the big moment in this one curing Kurt’s blindness, but I wasn’t aware of how ableist that trope is when I wrote it. I’m not going to delete it because that feels like sweeping it under the rug, but please know that I know better now.)

2. Unforgettable, a Cheerio!Kurt/nerd!Blaine AU based off this prompt: “You probably don’t remember but you saved me from some bullies once in middle school and god damn it every year you just get hotter"

3. Finally Found the Boy, a florist!Kurt/barista!Blaine AU in which I utilized every trope known to man: “#okay but combine all four: person a works at a coffeeshop #person b works at a flowershop #they start fake dating to cover for person a who's lied to their parents about meeting their soulmate #but then they do whatever thing reveals soulmates while fake dating and start REAL DATING #THE END”

4. Covert Cupid, aka your classic nerd!Kurt/jock!Blaine gift-giving AU. (You know, like Secret Santa, but for Valentine’s Day.)

5. Make A Move, a Cheerio!Blaine based off this anonymous prompt: “a klaine alternate meeting fic where one of them is working at a kissing booth and the other one keeps coming back with money and asking for kisses “for charity” and they basically end up making out in front of everybody bc the kisses are so great okay love u bye” (Yes, I DID use a One Direction lyric for the title; no, I am NOT sorry.)

Every time! At the very least, I drop a “thank you” and a heart, because I’m just that grateful that anyone has enjoyed my fic enough TO leave a comment. If there’s a more specific comment, I try to address it, too.

Uh, probably none of them? Happily ever after or BUST, pals.

Okay, I literally looked through all of my fics and this drabble is the only thing that even REMOTELY ends angstily. Plenty of my work has some kind of drama in the middle, but I firmly don’t believe in tragic endings. 

7. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written?

I’ve only done one proper crossover (e.g., featuring characters from both universes), but I’ve done plenty of AUs based on other pieces of IP! My one true crossover is Just Be Real (Is All I’m Askin’), which mixes Newsies and Supergirl with a dash of past lives/reincarnation. Listen, when you put Jeremy Jordan in two things I love, I’m gonna find a way to combine those things, friends.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I once got called out for using the term “maiden name” in a fic, but I’ve never truly been flamed or anything. Hope that stays true!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not often, and not outside of the Klaine fandom, at least as of right now. In those fics, I leaned a little more M than E in my ratings, and there were some D/s leanings, but that’s really based on how I saw that pairing. If I ever do smut for another fandom, I may totally mix up my kinks depending on how I see the couple/throuple/etc!

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I think I had some stories posted to at least one of those random pirate sites back in the day? But I’ve never been deliberately plagiarized that I know of.

11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I’ve definitely tried! Truffles and I worked on at least one co-authored fic once, but I don’t remember if we ever posted it.

Like many Millennials, I’m sure, it was Harry Potter. If you go digging in MuggleNet FanFiction, you should be able to find my terrible acrostic poems from when I was 14.

Oof, again with the favorites? I have a couple that I’m more proud of than others.

Of my Call the Midwife fics, I love What’s in a Name? the most, simply because I included so many characters and feel like I managed to capture all their unique voices/personalities. And I created a moment I want to see on the show!

For Newsies, my 9k beast We Just Might Win proved to me that I can write more than 2,000 words without having to base the story on another piece of IP, and I’ll always love it for that. (And for Jack, Davey, and Kath, of course!)

I’m proud of all my Klaine fics on some level, because they unlocked a creative output level in me that I genuinely will not ever be able to match again. I think a crowd favorite of mine was my Sound of Music AU, My Heart Will Be Blessed, but if I had to pick a personal fave? I’d have to go with Destiny. Caroline @thehouseofthebrave gave me this incredible prompt for it, and I just love how I filled it.

So, here’s the thing: I’ve never posted anything I have written XD One day, I will, but until then, I’ll answer the questions I can answer to the best of my ability ^^ I’ll modify some questions and keep the original ones for anybody who wants to answer those.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Funny thing: thanks to this question I’ve rediscovered like ten folders with the beginnings of different fanfics I’d not opened in years. Thank you, @scribbledquillz for making me find my old writings! My main work rn is a Dragon Age Origins retelling (featuring Astala Tabris of course, though I have decided that the other origins--Surana, Amell, Brosca, Mahariel, the whole gang--also survive because yes.) I also have two separate unfinished pieces on Caduceus and Caleb of the Mighty Nein (Critical Role) respectively. Equally unfinished are one fanfic with Loki and his Jotunn heritage, and another about the extermination of mutants in the X-Men universe prior to X-Men: Days of Future Past. Both projects were ambitious, but exist mainly as ideas now. The longest (and oldest) fanfic I’ve ever written is a collaborative super self-indulgent self-insert fix-it fic for The Hobbit. I am quite proud of my younger self for pulling through with this one and sticking to it over such a long time. It is, sadly, also unfinished.

Do you Would you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I would definitely respond to comments. It’s polite. I’d also want to mirror back the joy a comment has inspired in me.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

The X-Men fanfic ends with the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, which (spoiler?) means all the characters were going to die. But it’s okay because the movie fixes that ^^ But generally speaking, I’m not big on angsty endings. Angst is fine anywhere else.

I think it has to be either the The Hobbit fanfic or the Dragon Age Origins retelling. Characters I strongly identify with tend to get the happiest endings. Oh do I ever wonder why that is so

I’ve never written a crossover, but I’ve read some really cool ones. There was one featuring the Mighty Nein in the Undeadwood setting (both by Critical Role) that I wished had gone on longer bc it was so cool.

Oh yes! It’s an amazing experience. The creativity is squared. It is important though that all collaborators are on the same page about where the story goes, how the characters will be portrayed, etc. Especially if you give somebody your own OC or self-insert to write about.

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

There are a few that have a special place in my heart. Shadogast comes to mind, or Percy/Vex (from Critical Role). I love the Zevwarden ship because it’s a story about allowing feelings and romance and being stronger because of them (at least in my mind). I’m scared of what Fenris/Hawke might do to me when I get around to play DA2 XD

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Definitely the The Hobbit fanfic. It is a glorious mess, and from time to time I go through the documents again... but it’s just a really big project and my collaborators are busy

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue! Banter! I love it. I absolutely adore it. I make it way too long but it’s so much fun. I’m very much character driven I think, which is also why fanfic is so appealing to me. Actions speak louder than words, but characters shout through a megaphone. I also like pairing dialogue with very day-to-day, down-to-earth actions (like folding laundry). I feel like it allows me to convey so much more about the caracters than only through the words they say and the dialogue tags of “he said, she whispered”. Another thing I consider myself strong at is worldbuilding and generally keeping the practical things in mind. If it’s autumn, it’s probably gonna rain, the ground will be wet, they’ll sleep poorly and that’ll be reflected in heightened tempers and therefore more drama in the next scene. The fact that in canon a town has a harbor will have impacted this character who was born there. I like the details and puzzling the pieces together to make a world really come to life XD And, last, I have also recently learned that I write best non-chronologically, and to just write it all out and edit later. It does wonders to advance a project

What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptions. I hardly write any at first. I normally see scenes very clearly in my head, but I... don’t communicate it XD I’m so character-driven that I kinda forget about the rest. I also tend to get too bogged down by the mundane? The fact that I like to play around with details of the worldbuilding and have it all make sense means I’ll write that scene where they break up camp even though it... doesn’t really add anything to the story apart from the fact that it happens and they indeed do break up camp. Things that I should tell, I show. It reflects in my wordcount.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I like it! I find it really interesting. I might even listen to the spoken dialogue via Google trnaslate XD The only reason it might bother me is that there’s just no elegant way to integrate the translation into the text on AO3. In a normal book, I’d go for a footnote, but in AO3 and with my chapter length, I won’t make anybody scroll down, read the translation, and scroll up again.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

My first ever fanfic before I knew what fanfic was were things I wrote age 11 with a friend about the cowboy stories this German late 19th century writer Karl May wrote. We were obsessed with those novels

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

I gotta say the Hobbit fanfic. It was melodramatic, it was self-indulgent, it had everything. I remember staying up with my friends way into the wee hours of the morning discussing how we’d save Thorin and his nephews from certain death and why Kili was so obsessed with Tauriel after talking to her once XD

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Sometimes. I try to if I’m not in a non-social mood. Mostly, if I start off on my page before reading any fic and see that I have something in my inbox and it turns out to be a comment on my fic, then I’m more likely to reply to it. Idk why it works like that. Otherwise, it’s kinda touch and go whether or not I’ll reply to something, you’ve got a 50/50 chance, but I always read and appreciate every one that I get.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

*Looks at my abundance of angst fics* There’s... a surprising amount of angst without happy endings in my repertoire. Um. I’ll give you three that I vividly remember. (All of these are Star Trek and Spones) Written In The Stars - This is one of my really early works, and was gonna have a sequel that made it have a less angsty ending, but I could never get into the rhythm of writing it. I won’t spoil it, but this is probably the only fic I’ve written where Sarek is a straight-up dick. Battlefield - As the title suggests, there’s war with no real context. And major character death. It’s sad. I genuinely made people cry with this. I am both proud and apologetic of that. Unreal - This is probably one of my more complex concepts, and I’m really proud of it. Features ooc Spock with contextual reasons I won’t spoil, defensive/protective McCoy and major character death of a sort.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending

This is kind of difficult, bc while I have excessively written angsty endings (see: above answer) I do usually write happy endings, and I can’t remember all 160 fic endings left over, and even then it’s difficult to rank them by happiest. I like Nutcase {Murdoch Mysteries: Watts-centric) a lot, oh and also Blame It On Me (Star Trek Pricard: Hughnor) which is angst with a happy ending (and has amazing art accompanying it). There are many others with happy endings, but like I said I have no idea how to rank them by “happiest”.

Do you write crossovers? If so, What is the craziest one you’ve ever written?

I don’t really, but I have written one as a request that I really really enjoyed. A Good Day is ThorBruce and is set in the DS9 era of Star Trek, in which Thor is a captain and Bruce is his chief science officer. It’s really adorable and features sleepy, over-worked Bruce and a very characteristically happy Thor.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No, I don’t think so, unless you count unsolicited advice I felt I couldn’t turn down on ff.net when I was struggling to write Uhura. I’m kind of surprised I haven’t tbh (not that I’m complaining) since I do write for some very popular fandoms and ships (although, conversely, also some very niche fandoms and ships).

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I write it but have only ever posted it thee, four times if you count the exploratory one I posted under a pseudonym that wasn’t really that smutty. I’m hoping to get the confidence up to post some of what I’ve written tho, bc I do really like hat I’ve managed to do with some of it.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I’m aware.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, I have! A lovely person found my fic 1967, which is probably one of my favourite Spones fics I’ve written, based around the UK’s decriminalisation (well, partial) of homosexuality, and traslated it into Hungarian here. I’ve not been able to check it out, due to not knowing a thing in the language (tho I could probably ask my friend to) but the translator seemed really lovely, so I trust them to have done a good job.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not something I posted, but before I even started posting fanfic, me and my best friend really randomly started writing a Star Trek TNG x Star Wars crossover whenever they were at my house. We gave up on it after about a year and never wrote much for it, but it was... it was something.

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

This changes all the time with my hyperfixations! One that will always be in my heart is obviously Spones, my og ship and within my special interest. Currently I’m obsessed with The Witcher so I’ve got Geraskier on the mind but who knows when that might change!

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

In terms of fanfic I don’t really have any that I don’t think I’ll ever finish. I have an original script that I started writing months ago but only got about three scenes into and haven’t touched since bc I don’t actually have a plot for it.

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue; Is situations one? That sounds like a good and fancy way of saying AUs; Finding synonyms should be one, that’s like half my search history

What are your writing weaknesses?

Description; Despite my talent of finding synonyms I feel like I do repeat words a lot; Planning and outlining, I just don’t do it - it works for me tho.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I’m pretty sure the only times I’ve really done it is for Jedtavius (having Oct speak in Latin occasionally) and I might have done it once or twice with Spock speaking Vulcan, both times it’s mostly terms of endearment or Oct wanting to be romantic. Idk, I don’t really care about reading dialogue in other languages as long as there’s a translation somewhere in the work or I can easily pick it up or search it. Just do whatever, it’s your writing. As long as you do it well and it makes contextual sense, I don’t really care.

Why would you do this to me??? I love most of my fics!!! I’m just gonna link a few here cause I’ve been doing this for an hour now and it would definitely take me an hour to choose just one! The Relationship Series - modern AU, autistic Spock (written by a self-projecting autistic writer), there’s angst spattered about but is especially prominent in part 6, I just really love this series Promises You Can’t Keep - Loki spoilers, I love this bc it’s based on “what if my finale theory was right instead of being debunked three minutes into the episode”, definitely angst with a hopeful ending I love all of my Charite At War fics, but I’m gonna link my 20 years post-canon fic Grow Old With Me and my modern AU You Give Me Your Light - both have some heavy topics (post-canon is set in 1960s East Germany, modern AU topics are tagged) but I adore both with my entire heart You’ll Never Burn - Merlin/Merthur, again kinda heavy (not as heavy as the Charite ones in my opinion) but short and everything is tagged I love all of my Babylon 5 fics but Secret Rendezvous will always have a special place in my heart. It’s very sweet and essentially follows Vir and Lennier trying to navigate coming out about their relationship to their ambassadors I also recommend all the of the fics I’ve already linked in the post ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now for the hard part - tagging!

Would you happens to know any good kon fics?

I’m not sure if ris went on anon and asked the same question twice, or if this is two different people. Either way, ask and ye shall receive.

There isn’t enough Kon content out there, in my opinion. He’s such an underappreciated character, both by DC and by the fandom. Most of the works out there that feature Kon only have him as a background character, and then most of those are centered around Tim. But I’ll try to find the ones that focus mainly on Kon. 

1. The Mystery of the Superboy Shirts by Aviatricks Tim/Kon. 4,000 words. You can’t have a Kon fic rec without including this one. There’s a very high chance that you’ve already read it, but I’m going to add it anyway because it’s one of my favourite DC fics of all time. It’s from Tim’s point of view, but it’s centered around Kon, and honestly, just one of the most hilarious things ever. Read this if you want a short, feel-good, happy fic that will make you laugh.

2. On My Chest, On My Heart by dnawhite76 Tim/Kon. 20,000 words. Now this! This is an absolutely wonderful Timkon fic that’s actually centered around Kon and is from Kon’s point of view. Amazing. It’s a Love Simon High School AU of sorts, featuring lots of superfam and Kon being a gay disaster, and an incredible coming out sequence. Kon feels a little lost, a little out of place, and not at all happy (at the beginning), but the way the author wrote his family and friends’ support and his character development was the BEST. It’s a little lengthy, but so worth it.

3. Boys of Summer by MarbleAide Tim/Kon. 5,500 words. A summer camp AU that follows Tim and Kon through the years. Again, from Tim’s point of view, but he’s so in love with Kon, it’s so cute. It’s a cute fic with a healthy dose of pining. The prose is a little simple, and the pacing’s just a bit too fast, but the overall universe this fic (along with the rest of the antics of the core four) is adorable. 

4. Close to Home by iesika Multiple pairings. 65,000 words. Ooooooh boy this is a LONG one. AU in the form of canon divergence. There’s a murder in Smallville High, and Kon and Tim attempt to solve the mystery together, while Kon goes through normal high school stuff (and some abnormal hero stuff.) It’s very very plotty, with a mystery that drives the whole thing. It’s got some pretty cool OCs, though I’m not usually a fan of that stuff, and it’s sort of kind of Timkon? It’s got an ambiguous ending, both of which I tend to shy away from. Overall, not my cup of tea but still a pretty great fic, and if you’re looking for Kon centered fics, this is the one to check out.

5. Gonna Be A Better One (A Thousand Miles To Your Door) by @traincat​ Tim/Kon. 18,500 words. I haven’t read this one in a while, but I do remember really really loving it. It’s classic take on the problems that come with being two teenagers dating while simultaneously being two teenage vigilantes. A little bit of cute core four stuff, the few instances where Steph shows up, she’s pretty well characterized. The two of them are hopelessly besotted, but also dealing with a lot of issues and they’re trying to figure out if their love is worth it. I loved this one, definitely worth a read. (Also unrelated but traincat is the spideytorch queen and spideytorch is like one of my top ships of all time so even if you’re not into marvel comics you should go read them anyway because I love them.)

6. Boys in Leather Jackets by @merelymine​ Tim/Kon. <3,000 words. I. Um. Yeah this is just PWP. I am completely unashamed. It’s cute at first, and then it’s hot as hell, and I will not apologize for reccing it. 

7. Curse of the Red-Heads by @pupeez4eva (sorry if this is the wrong link, their tumblr wasn’t linked on the fic so I did a little digging) Multiple Pairings. 5,000 words. I’m a little hesitant to rec this because it is mainly about Tim and Kon, but it’s told from Damian’s point of view and it’s got a fair bit of him as well. Regardless, Kon is actually hilarious whenever he shows up, and I loved him, so I’m reccing it anyway. Damian doesn’t understand how relationships work, and meddles in people’s love lives. It’s absolutely hilarious, if you’re up for a laugh, give it a read.

8. Three Little Words by timkons Tim/Kon. 10,000 words. Once again, centered around Tim, but features Kon being an incredible, loving husband so I’m not complaining. It’s a little angsty, and dives Tim’s emotional vulnerability. Tim and Kon fight, Tim is Emotional and Hates It, and it takes you on a ride of feels. But it ends happily, so that’s nice. (Sort of) Domestic and older Timkon, I really enjoyed this fic. 

9. Through Another Lens by animegoil Tim/Kon. 7,000 words. Mind the tags on this one, it’s a little bit triggering, and has a tad bit of non/con. This one isn’t one I really love, but it’s not bad overall. It’s a bit too wordy, and a tad anti-climatic? In a sense? But it’s from Kon’s pov and it shows his thought process pretty well. There’s a little bit of angst, followed up by Talking About Feelings and a hint of hurt/comfort. Overall, a decent read. 

10. Class Differences by wisia Tim/Kon. 13,500 words. Ooooooh man this was a good one. I was expecting silliness and fluff. Instead I got a ride of feels and some really really well written words. This fic centers around Kon dealing with the publicity that comes with being “Timothy Drake”’s boyfriend. And man is it rough. I just loved it though, absolutely incredible. I might reread it sometime and make a moodboard idk.

11. Matters of the Heart by @nyerus Tim/Kon. 13,500 words. This one is a case fic, with Kon realizing he’s in love with Tim and having to deal with that. Very plotty, but the action was done super well, so it added to the overall vibe of the fic. Kon is so in love with Tim, he’s hopeless, it’s great. Also, the author got Kon’s point of view down, like damn it’s incredible. Definitely worth a read!

12. What’s in a name? by dancingsweetheart129 Tim/Kon. 21,000 words. This one is more of a character introspection, as Kon learns to let his old name go as he grows up. I wasn’t really a fan of the writing style, it was too fast in some places and too wordy in others, and the prose got a little messy at times. But it is a really good character study, so if you’re looking for Kon centered fics, this is worth a shot.

13. We’re Not Dating by @dianaraven (once again, i’m not entirely sure this is the right url bc it wasn’t linked in the fic and I had to do some digging. sorry!) Tim/Kon. 5,500 words. Exactly what it says on the box. An old trope but a good one, fluff, pining, and people not realizing they’re in love with each other. Just a good, wholesome read.

14. Reveries by @nyerus Tim/Kon. 5,500 words. Another fic by nyerus, but this one’s short and sweet. Again, focused mainly on Tim, but it features the two of them being super in love and adorable and I love it. Read it if you want Cute Boyfriends being Cute Boyfriends (and tim getting some sleep for once in his life).

Okay, when you were describing all of the things that you would want in the relationship, I thought of San due to how clingy and affectionate he is with the other members of ATEEZ. He is a Cancer, which is good because that is one of the star signs that are compatible with yours. I don't believe that the age difference of four years would be that much of an issue, especially since San acts younger than he is most of the time anyway. I feel like most men are intimidated when their female significant other is tall themselves, but he is tall himself and I feel like the fact that you are taller is kind of one of his favorite things about you? One of his other favorite things about you are your curves, he always puts his hand on your thighs during movie night at the boys' dorm or in the back pocket of your jeans when you two are walking into KQ Entertainment together. When you wear dresses when all of you go out to fancy dinners together, he has to hold himself back because he ADORES you when you wear dresses! You said you're am ambivert, I feel like he relates to that in some form of way, like I feel like there are certain situations where he feels a bit more introverted about. Sometimes Hongjoong has to scold him because he texts you so much, but he can't stay mad at you when you pop into the building with their favorite Starbucks drinks and hand-made lunch boxes for them. Just as you always support his creative endeavors, he always returns it for you tenfold and when you are talking about issues you care deeply about, he gives you his full attention and stares at you lovingly. Not just San, but all of the boys, come to you whenever they are dealing with stress and they just want someone to talk to because you are so amazing at giving advice and supporting them. There was a time when a sasaeng approached you, San, Wooyoung and Jongho when you were doing some late night grocery shopping when another ATINY stopped her, causing an argument and nasty words to be exchanged. Let's just say, you shut that sasaeng down REAL quick when you heard some of the things she said. One day you woke up and found a present that San made for you, a mixtape of all of your favorite songs from all your favorite genres of music, along with a little keychain that had tokens of all of the states you had visited. He wholeheartedly loves you and he makes every effort to support all of your dreams. When he has days off from work, the two of you make a blanket fort in your living room and watch old episodes of Forensic Files and Law & Order: SVU, whilst surrounded by fluffy blankets and a couple of his favorite plushies. His life an idol doesn't afford him much down time, unfortunately, but he always makes time for you and you always have the craziest adventures with not only each other, but all of the other boys as well. Squishy San will want all of the cuddles, have you SEEN how affectionate he is with the other members?! Also, him in all black outfits.... YES, PLEASE AND THANK YOU. One day he was visiting your apartment and he surprised you with matching beaded pearl bracelets and he never takes it off, not even for performances. The boys don't really think nothing of walking into the bathroom to brush their teeth whilst one of the others is showering, that just comes with their busy schedules and their dorm life. Let's just say this: Mingi wasn't able to look you in the eyes for two weeks because he did just that, not realize that you had snuck in and stayed the night, and were currently going to the bathroom whilst San was in the shower. Your camera roll is not only filled with silly pictures of San that you've captured, but of the most magazine worthy, model pictures you have ever been lucky enough to take. He accepts you for all of your flaws, and helps you to try to work on them, however that may be and you do the same for him.

In summary: You both are simps for each other and I AM HERE FOR IT.

In BTS, I ship you with Namjoon!

Another tall boy for you, I got you! You both are Virgos, but I looked it up worried that two Virgos would clash, and it said that they would be very intuitive with each other and would understand each other! The age gap is quite large, I don't know how okay you are with that? I know everyone has different preferences. He approached you first when he saw you at the mom & pop coffee shop/cafe around the corner from your apartment, and he thought you were the most beautiful person he had ever seen. Another man who I don't think would be bothered by your curves (men can be shallow dicks), I think that is his favorite thing (same as San) about you. Not even in a sexual way, I feel like his hands would always end up on your butt without him even noticing. Most of the time, one of the other boys will point it out when all of you are hanging out together, and he will be proud that he has a significant other like you, but he almost might become a shy mess about it I feel like. I feel like he can get jealous, just because you are closest to Jungkook in the group and you often pull pranks on the other members together. There is never a shortage of laughs when all of you are together, pure crackhead energy if I've ever seen it, just non stop jokes and banter between all of you. You were able to get time off from work and were actually able to join them (their managers were surprisingly chill about you tagging along? CONFUSION?) on their tour around Europe and you had so many memories. You actually brought along a Polaroid camera that you found in a little store one day when the two of you were shopping, and you ended up having to buy an extra suitcase on the trip because you took LITERAL hundreds of pictures of all of your adventures and the tour shenanigans. He has childish tendencies, I feel like he would love to play Roblox with you? I feel like he would take a very mathematical approach to building things, that's just the vibe I get from him. He often stares at you when you're doing your makeup in the morning, he finds it fascinating and he even asked you to do his makeup for some of his shows. His makeup artists weren't angry, luckily, all of their staffs absolutely adore you two together. He is all up for adventures, I feel like he would chicken out at the idea of skydiving, though lol. You keep stealing his sweaters, which he low-key highkey is SO happy about because he loves the way that you look in them. The size difference is only three or four inches (I've seen people say he's 6 feet, but then others say he's 6 foot 2, WHICH IS IT?!), so it's pretty easy to sneak kisses from him whenever you want them when you're together. If he sees you struggling to stay awake whilst studying, he'll softly close your book and drag you over to your bed for a couple hours so you can take a quick nap to regain the energy. I don't really know his temperament that well, he has to be rather even-tempered to deal with those hooligans he calls the rest of BTS, so I feel like you wouldn't have that many fights. You both are always striving to help each other to be the best versions of each other you can be. You joined the boys on vacation at a lake house and one night you were having dinner and he blushed after you said something cheeky to him, causing you to say to him, "You look like a cute tomato when you blush, my cutie pie." in front of the other members. Needless to say, he turned even more red and the boys teased him mercilessly for the rest of the night. Don't know how the cooking would go (this boy is a DISASTER in the kitchen), but you would have fun learning new dishes. He would brag about getting a dish right, and you quickly praise him but also say, " and that's why you a big ass head.", causing him to die laughing. He is the very definition of a hard worker, and I feel like he would love being praised and doing the same for his significant other, so I'm glad that you said that you liked the words of affirmation love language, because GET READY. He's definitely been buffing up (I SCREAM WHENEVER I SEE PICTURES OF HIM NOWADAYS), so

his hugs would always be the best things, so warm and comforting. Don't know how you feel about children? We've all seen that VLive where this idiot literally bought baby shoes because he thought they were cute, so I think he would definitely want children down the road in your relationship if you were both comfortable with it. Best father and husband award goes to him.

hi, yes, are we all past the “yuri on ice is perfect with no flaws” phase now? because i have a few issues, i feel like literally no one talks about....

to preface: i think yuri on ice is a wonderful anime with canonical lgbt+ rep, well thought out, respective to different cultures, and did not fall into any offensive stereotypes that i’m aware of. but this does not make it free from all flaws, because it kind of has a fair number of them. i still love the show, but these are things that make me highly uncomfortable when i think about them.

the sexualisation

i’m not going to pretend that i know everything, and that my word is law. there is obviously, going to be a little bit of preference in this post. but one thing that kind of makes me severely uncomfortable is the sexualisation of, well, a fair number of skaters.

now, this could just be a thing in ice skating, i’m not going to pretend i know everything about ice skating because i don’t all i know comes from the show itself and a handful of teen skating movies i’ve seen over the years. but the fact that there’s a recurring theme of sexual desire is kind of a problem, because it implies that every worthwhile skater does a sexual routine in their career.

this is pretty much hammered in for me in the episode where victor gives out the agape and eros routines. the way the show portrays it with camera angles hints that yuri p is gonna skate to eros while yuuri k is gonna skate to agape.

now, you may think “oh but that’s just to surprise the audience bc we’ve all seen that yuuri is shy and not v confident” but uh. you’re kind of forgetting that sixteen year old yuri pliesetsky heard about that routine and thought “okay so that’s the one i’m doing”, and absolutely no one in that room thought that it would be a bad idea for that.

i’m not implying that victor or yuuri k would make yuri p skate to it, or sexualise him, but there’s still something very inherently wrong about the fact that yuri p was considered to skate to it in the first place.

and to leap off from that, the welcome to the madness exhibition skate??? yep, you guessed it, very sexualised. he’s still 16 years old. he actually skates to this one. yes, it’s a bonus thing not actually in the show, but it’s canonical.

this is a recurring thing throughout the whole show. while it make come down to taste that there are characters like chris who canonically have an orgasm on the ice while skating, and just...his whole performance is so over the top sexual dancing. again, that might be accounting for taste, but it’s...not super good.

the fetishisation of mlm couples

this is...kind of more of a fandom issue, but it’s so heavily prevalent it needs to addressed.

i want you to go to the yuri on ice tag on ao3 and tell me what the top 50 fanfictions are in terms of ratings. do you want to know how many of them have at one point actual porn or characters thirsting over others? because i have counted and that number is actually 30, nearly all of those are just pure smut, or long fics with multiple chapters of smut.

while, i absolutely am not saying “all smut is bad!!!” i rankles me so much, just to see this relationship only been seen through a sexual lens. there can be a lot of grey areas where people don’t mean to fetishise mlm couples, or they consume fetishising content and that influences their own works. and i’m not saying that i myself haven’t consumed any of this, because chances are i have without realising it or because i didn’t think about the fic for long enough to recognise it.

there are always going to be fandom trends. tropes and themes that fandoms will latch onto whether they’re hinted at in canon of featured heavily. and because of the sexual nature of parts of canon, this means that the fetishisation of victor/yuuri is unfortunately a fandom trend when cis female authors write smutty ship fics, or just pure porn.

i’m not gonna demand that all author’s present their “i’m not straight” i.d. card just to post their content. but, it’s something to keep in mind. some straight cis female authors do show respect to the mlm couples they write in sexual situations, but not all. please, if you’re going to consume content with sex in, then please keep in mind that some authors aren’t doing it with the best intentions, or their writing can be harmful.

i will stand and yell on this podium for as long as i breathe air, but there is something very very nasty about certain ships that are popular in the fandom. there are always going to be some creepy and wrong ships in every single fandom, but honestly the fact that one ship in particular is so prevalent when it’s very obviously wrong is....well it’s not right and anyone who proclaims it, goes straight on the list of people i avoid just as i do when i find someone who sexualises yuri p.

yep, if you hadn’t guessed it, please don’t ship otabek and yuri p. they have an age difference and yes it’s a creepy difference. and here’s why:

yuri p at the introduction of the show is 15, and at the end he’s 16. we don’t have any information about how old otabek was at the start, but he’s listed as being 18 when he’s officially introduced and speaks to yuri p.

the defense that i see a lot is that they’re both in the age to be in high school. seniors and sophmore date all the time, there’s not THAT big a difference. but the thing you’re missing is that while they knew each other before otabek was 18, they hadn’t even spoken. they’d only heard of each other. in my opinion, this counts for shit all for “excusing” the age difference.

they were not friends beforehand, and they practically met each other in barcelona.

the thing about age difference is that there’s not a hard “five years max” that covers every single age group. there’s different allowances in our culture that apply to different age groups and the consensus seems to be that two years is about the norm for teen relationships, whereas young adult ones range from three to five, and older adult age differences is five or more.

there is however, a hard rule that some people like to skirt the line. that anyone who is 18, must not date someone who is younger than 18. there’s allowances, those that date 17 year olds, or if they’ve known each other since before the older one turned 18.

so keeping that in mind, while disregarding otabek’s and yuri p’s first meeting, a romantic relationship between these two is just plain wrong. maybe i can understand it when the romantic nature doesn’t appear until after yuri p is 18, but shipping them as they are in canon is wrong. even hinting at it. please know this.

it’s also especially sinister when you keep in mind the fandom’s tendency to fetishise every single mlm couple in yuri on ice. because that means you’re fetishising the relationship between an adult and a minor. i won’t go searching to see if there’s any tasteful takes that doesn’t fetishise them, because the ship itself makes me sick, but there probably isn’t any out there.

Hehehe I think I’m being clever with the title.

Here’s some more from that “Angie is a greaser and Stan is a nerd” AU that I’m going to tag as “West Coast Trio”, bc Angie, Stan, and Ford all end up at West Coast Tech in this AU.

Specifically, in this collection of scenes, we see the first meeting of Angie (who goes by her middle name, Quinn, in this AU) and Stan, the first meeting of Angie and Ford, and also the first hints of the good ship Stangie.  Enjoy.

              “Whattaya gonna do about it, Pines?” sneered Tom.  Stan could feel the bricks of the building digging into his back as he pressed up against it.  Every inch of him was shaking in fear.

              “Look, Tom, I don’t think that we need to get physical about this-” Stan started. Tom leaned in, close enough for Stan to feel his breath.

              “I think we do, charity case.  You and that freak brother of yours don’t belong here.  You know that.”  Stan clenched his hands into fists.  Before he could respond to Tom’s insult about Ford, a female voice spoke.

              “Tommy boy, what are ya doin’?”  Stan and Tom looked over.  A girl Stan had seen around campus a few times was idly leaning against the wall, chewing gum.  She blew a large bubble and popped it.  Tom took a step away from Stan.

              “N-nothing,” Tom stammered.  Stan glanced at Tom in surprise, then turned his attention back to the girl.  Her hair was roughly chopped short and dyed a bright magenta, popping against her dark leather jacket.  She cocked her head curiously.

              “Sure ‘bout that?” she asked.  “‘Cause it looks to me like you were messin’ with this poor feller.  Intimidatin’ him, perhaps?”  Her voice was breezy, but an undertone of threat wove in with her southern accent.  Tom swallowed.

              “Nope.  Not- not at all, Quinn.”

              “See, I don’t think I believe that,” the girl – Quinn – drawled.  She stood straight.  The arm she was holding behind her back fell to her side, revealing that she was holding a large, wooden baseball bat.  Tom blanched and stepped further away from Stan.  “You know I don’t tolerate folks beratin’ other folks.”

              “I wasn’t-”

              “Kid,” Quinn barked.  Stan stood up straight.

              “Y-yes?”

              “Was he botherin’ ya?”

              “…yes,” Stan said.  Quinn glared at Tom.

              “I’m gonna- I’m gonna leave,” Tom stammered.  Quinn’s eyes narrowed.

              “I think that’s fer the best.  You can get a head start that way,” she said in a low voice.  Tom sprinted away.  Quinn strode over to Stan.  She looked him up and down.  “He didn’t hurt ya, did he?” she asked.

              “N-no,” Stan mumbled.  Quinn frowned.

              “Ya sure?  You seem a bit…quiet.”

              “I’m- um-”  Stan rubbed the back of his neck nervously.  Quinn stuck out her hand.

              “Quinn.  Quinn McGucket.”  Stan shook the offered hand.

              “Uh, Stan.  Stan Pines.”

              “Stan…”  Quinn’s eyes widened.  “Oh! You and yer brother work on that comic strip in the school paper, don’t ya?”

              “Y-yeah.”

              “I like it.  It’s funny.” Quinn cocked her head, a small smile curling the corners of her mouth.  “Think you’ll show me how ya make it sometime?”

              “M-maybe.”

              “I’d like that.”  Quinn sighed and looked over in the direction Tom had run off.  “But right now, I’ve got other fish to fry.  See ya ‘round campus!”  She marched away, whistling a tune that sounded vaguely familiar to Stan, but he couldn’t quite put a name to it.  Stan felt a slight flush spread across his features.

              That was…the most badass girl I’ve ever met.

              Ford didn’t turn when the door to his and Stan’s dorm room opened.  He was too engrossed in his biology assignment. He scowled at the worksheet.

              Why is this so difficult?  It’s a simple pairing question.

              “This is where the magic happens,” Stan’s voice said proudly. There was a soft chuckle.

              “The magic, huh?  Ya have a mighty big opinion of yer lil comic strip, don’t ya?” a southern voice asked. Ford’s head shot up.

              A female southern voice.  He spun his chair around to face the door.  Immediately, dread dropped into his gut.  Oh, no.  Standing in the doorway with Stan was a young woman Ford had seen around campus.  From her brightly colored hair to her thick combat boots, every inch of her stuck out like a sore thumb among the other students, who tended to come from upper-class backgrounds.  Most likely, she does that on purpose.

              “Oh!  Quinn, this is my twin brother, Ford,” Stan said, gesturing towards Ford.  Ford inclined his head slightly in a small nod. “He co-creates the comic strip with me. Ford, this is Quinn McGucket.”

              “I know who she is,” Ford said.  Quinn raised a blonde eyebrow.

              “My reputation precedes me, I see.”  She grinned viciously.  “Good.”

              “So, Stan, how did you meet Quinn?” Ford asked.  Stan shoved his hands in his pants pockets and grinned.

              “She saved me from getting my ass kicked and realized that I work on the comic strip.  Turns out she’s a big fan.”

              “Yes, I am,” Quinn said.  She shrugged. “It’s funny.”

              “Yeah, that part’s all me,” Stan said proudly.  Ford quirked a small smile.

              “He’s right.  Stan’s the comedic genius of the two of us,” Ford said.  Quinn chuckled softly.  “What are you majoring in, Quinn?”

              “Biology.”

              “Ah.  A noble field.  Not as noble as some fields of science, but-”

              “Let me guess,” Quinn said.  “Yer a physics major?”

              “How did you-”

              “All the physics majors I’ve met act that way ‘bout biology.”  Quinn turned to Stan.  “So, where do ya get yer ideas?” she asked in a low tone. Satisfied that his role in the conversation was finished, Ford turned back to his homework.  He didn’t realize Quinn had crossed over to his desk until she spoke behind him.

              “You’ve got that wrong,” she said lightly.  Ford’s arm jerked in surprise, leaving a streak across his worksheet. Quinn pointed at the matching problem Ford had been having such a difficult time with.  “That’s not the coccyx.  It should be the pharyngeal arches.”

              “How did you know that?” Ford asked, erasing the streak as well as the incorrect answer.

              “Uh, did ya not hear me say I’m a biology major?”

              “No, I did, I just assumed that you weren’t-” Ford started.

              “Oh.”  Quinn’s voice was completely flat.  Ford looked over at her.  She had stepped away from his desk and was watching him with a disgusted expression. “I see.”

              “I- I just mean- you come from an upper-class background-”

              “No, I don’t,” Quinn snapped.  She crossed her arms.  “My parents run a farm.”

              “Then how did you get into West Coast Tech?” Ford asked.  Quinn’s eyes flashed with fury.

              “On my merit,” she snarled.  “Just like you and yer brother.  What, ‘cause I’m a girl, I can’t get in on my brains?”

              “No, not-”

              “Or is it ‘cause I’m southern?”  Quinn’s voice became harsher as she continued to speak, viciously biting off the end of each syllable.  “Maybe ‘cause I grew up in the country?  ‘Cause of course, no southern hick chick could ever be smart?”

              “No!” Ford said desperately, holding his hands up.  Quinn did a double-take at the sight of his splayed fingers, but returned her fierce gaze to his eyes.  “No, none of those things!  You’re just- with the-”  It was one of the few times in his life Ford found himself at a loss for words.  His explanation died on his tongue as Quinn’s raw anger magnified.  “The hair and the jacket and the boots-”

              “Oh!  It’s ‘cause I’m tough!” Quinn said.  “I get it.” She looked around, caught sight of a stack of books on Ford’s bed, and shoved them onto the floor.  “You should learn how to judge people by gettin’ to know ‘em, not by rumors or appearances,” she spat.  “You seem like the kind of person who has a lot of experience with folks judgin’ ya exactly fer those things.”  With that, she spun around and stormed out of the dorm room, slamming the door shut behind her.  Stan crossed his arms, glaring at Ford.

              “I didn’t mean to-”

              “Yeah, Sixer, that’s pretty obvious.”  Stan rolled his eyes.  “C’mon, man! My first shot at a friend here, and that’s how you treat her?”  Stan shook his head, then exited the room.  Ford pursed his lips.

              Should I follow?  At least to apologize?  I don’t want Stan to socialize with a delinquent like her, but he could use a friend other than me.  He has higher social needs than I do, after all.  With a sigh, Ford got up and walked to the door.  Before he could open it, he picked up on muffled voices.  He pressed his ear to the door.

              “I’m sorry,” Quinn’s voice said.  “That was- that was rude of me, to push someone’s things ‘round when I’m a guest in their livin’ space.  I do apologize fer that.”

              “It’s fine.  Ford was being a dick,” Stan’s voice said.  “He deserved it.”

              “Maybe.  I just- I have to go study fer class.”

              “…Oh.”  Stan sounded disappointed.  “I guess I’ll-”

              “-have to give me the grand tour when Ford’s not home,” Quinn finished for Stan. Ford couldn’t see his twin, but could easily picture the broad grin stretched across Stan’s face.

              “Yeah.  Definitely.”

              Ford turned his head to the side.  Being pressed up against the side of the chemistry building and threatened was rote at this point.  His primary concern was to avoid Bennett’s disgusting breath.  It was futile.

              Did he eat onions marinated in garlic?  It reeks.

              “I told you before, freak,” Bennett breathed.  “I don’t like it when people show me up.  I warned you last time not to open your damn dirty mouth in class, and you didn’t listen.  So.” Bennett grabbed Ford’s shirt, snagging Ford’s skin in his roughness.  Ford’s eyes began to water, both from the pain and the smell of Bennett’s breath.  “You’re gonna pay, freak.”  Ford resisted the urge to point out that Bennett had used the insult mere moment ago. Abruptly, Bennett was pulled off Ford, startled enough to let go of Ford’s shirt.  Bennett hit the ground, landing on his back with a heavy thump.  Ford looked over at his rescuer.

              “Bennett Thompson,” Quinn snarled, standing over Bennett.  “Prep school bully extraordinaire.”  She tossed her bright purple locks.  “Remember how you asked me out last week?”  Quinn smirked at him.  “Yer insistence on harassin’ folks was just one of the reasons I said no.  The other one is yer nasty-ass breath.”  Quinn cocked her head.  “Have ya ever even heard of a toothbrush before?”

              “Quinn, I-” Bennett started.  Quinn’s face hardened.

              “No,” she said flatly.  She slammed a boot-clad foot onto one of Bennett’s hands.  There was a sickening crunch.  Bennett let out a yelp.  Quinn leaned over and whispered something in Bennett’s ear.  Bennett nodded, his face pale as a sheet.  Quinn straightened again.  “Good.”  She slowly lifted her foot off Bennett’s hand.  “Skedaddle.”  Bennett jumped to his feet and rushed away, cradling his hand.  Quinn turned to Ford.  “You all right?” she asked gently.

              “I- you-”  Ford stared at Bennett, quickly disappearing into the distance.  “Quinn, that was vicious.”

              “I don’t pussyfoot around.  But you knew that.”

              “Yes, I suppose I did, I just-”  Ford swallowed.  “You used such force to assist with someone who isn’t even a friend of yours, I-”  He stopped at the sight of Quinn’s heartbroken expression.

              “…We’re not friends?” Quinn whispered.  Ford’s heard plummeted.

              Oh no, I’ve offended her.  Quinn looked away, blinking rapidly, as though she was fighting back tears.  No.  I’ve hurt her feelings.  That’s worse.

              “I didn’t mean-” Ford started.  Quinn let out a harsh laugh.

              “Is that yer catchphrase or somethin’?  I hear it come out of ya all the flippin’ time,” she said.  She was attempting to portray a light tone, but her voice was thick with emotion.  Ford thought back to his first impression of Quinn.

              That she’s insisting on being a lone wolf because she knows she’ll be mostly on her own as is.  Quinn kicked a pebble.  It bounced a short distance away.  She’s decided to lean into it, embrace it.  It’s the same principle behind Stan’s motto when he was hospitalized but still cracking jokes.  You either laugh or you cry.  You find a way to spin it in a positive way, even if it feels like you can’t or shouldn’t.

              “Whatever,” Quinn muttered.  She began to walk away.

              “Wait!” Ford blurted out.  Quinn stopped by the stairs leading into the building.  She turned.

              “Yes?”

              “I- I do apologize.  Sincerely,” Ford said.  Quinn rolled her eyes.

              “Sure.”  She crossed her arms.  “Look, I get it.  You think I’m a delinquent.  I’ve heard ya say as much to Stan.”

              “Yes, well…”  Ford rubbed the back of his neck.  Quinn scoffed.  She began to turn away.  “No, Quinn, I- thank you.”  Quinn stopped.  She stared at him.  “Not just for saving me, but also for saving Stan.  It’s- I- to be frank, we could use the protection.”

              “I ain’t yer personal bodyguard.”

              “No, I know, I just-”  Ford swallowed.

              Let’s try a different tactic.

              “I get the feeling that you have roughly the same amount of experience with friendships that I do.”  Quinn’s expression changed from frustrated to bemused.  “That is, minimal outside of family members.”  Quinn leaned against the stair handrail.

              “Is this yer way of sayin’ that ya suck at communication?” she asked.

              “I- yes.”

              “Hmm.”  Quinn looked away.  “That explains why ya keep puttin’ yer foot in yer mouth.”  She sighed.  “Didn’t know ya were observant enough to catch onto my own…social deficits.”

              “Wh- I’m very observant!” Ford protested.  Quinn shrugged.

              “Sure, with science ‘n data.  But with people?  I’d say yer more oblivious than observant.  Or did ya forget ya managed to insult me within ten minutes of meetin’ me? Or what just happened a few seconds ago, where ya upset me after I saved yer ass from bein’ turned to creamed corn?”

              “Creamed corn?” Ford asked.  Quinn scowled at him.  “Never mind.” Ford looked down at his feet. “You’re still upset that I had made an impression of you even before we met.”

              “Yup.”

              “You can’t honestly blame me for thinking you might be dangerous after hearing about the numerous occasions in which you beat someone up with a baseball bat.”

              “Sure, I can,” Quinn drawled.  She looked off into the distance.  “All those folks deserved a good kneecapping.”

              “I-”  Ford let out a wry laugh.  “Fair point.” He chewed on his lip, thinking. “Why do you do it?”

              “Kneecap folks?  ‘Cause they deserve it.”

              “No, not that.  Well, not that alone.  Your entire…thing.”  Ford walked over to Quinn and leaned against the handrail as well.  “I know how it feels to stick out.  Why would you choose to do it, when you could easily fit in?”

              “You have far too much faith in our classmates,” Quinn said dryly.  “I doubt I could ever fit in with them boys in letterman jackets and boat shoes.”  She was silent for a moment.  “I don’t need to prove myself to others,” she said softly.  “I don’t need to bend to the whims of what society says a lady should be.  I can succeed without doin’ either of those things.”

              “That’s…not an answer.”

              “Yup.”  Quinn grinned crookedly.  “It’s only part of one.”

              “What’s the full answer?”

              “Oh, I ain’t tellin’ ya.”  Quinn met Ford’s eyes.  “It’s somethin’ I’d only tell a friend.”  A challenge sparked in her gaze, daring Ford to say they were friends just to get a full answer.

              “Cruel, but fair,” Ford said, backing down from the unspoken challenge. Quinn raised an eyebrow thoughtfully.

              “Hmm.”  She looked away.

              “I suppose I could always get Stan to ask, and then he would tell me,” Ford remarked.  “Since the two of you are friends.”  Quinn rolled her eyes, but a small smile played around her lips.  “By the way, Stan wants to be more than friends with you.”

              “Oh, I know,” Quinn said.  A faint pink blush began to spread across her cheeks.  She ducked her head, hiding her smile, which was getting stronger.

              “You do?”

              “Yes.  I might not have a lot of experience with friends, but I know my way ‘round body language and social cues.  Unlike some folks.”

              “Ouch.”  Ford watched Quinn’s face continue to flush.  “I take it you feel the same way about him?”

              “It don’t matter if I do or not.”  Quinn stood straight and stepped away from the handrail.  “He can’t handle me.  Not yet.”  She glanced at her wristwatch.  “Biochem starts soon.  We should head inside.  I’ll walk with ya.  Someone’s got to protect ya from bullies.”

              “Maybe I should hire you as my personal bodyguard,” Ford mumbled. Quinn laughed.

              “Nah.  You couldn’t afford me.”

book review: K Webster, Hale (2018)

Is it explicit: Yes, extremely explicit. In fact if this had been published on literotica i would have accounted it a well-above-average story.

Is it endgame: Yes

Is it shippable: Yes

Bottom line: This is the most vanilla thing I have read in a LONG time and if i hadn’t paid $3.99 for it i doubt I would have bothered to finish it

I picked up this title because shipcestuous added it to her to-read shelf on goodreads, and while it’s clear from the editorial copy (“This book is an epic, emotional, raw love story”) that they think something groundbreaking is going on here, I would like to direct these amateurs to the Sibling Incest tag on Ao3. Or the Incest Shipping Yay page on TVtropes. Or Astrid’s now-defunct blog, if tumblr ever sees fit to restore it. Trust me, you do not have to be doing anything experimental or original for me to enjoy your tropetastic incest story. You don’t even have to be good with words. Stephenie Meyer, for instance, is not what anybody would call a first-rate stylist, and yet I’ve never had any trouble finishing any of her books (none of which feature incest, but the point was about writing generally).

Hudson and Rylie Hale lose their parents in a tragic car accident. Their shared grief is the catalyst for the affair that blooms between them, and I will give them this much: these kids at least know better than to leave any incriminating texts or pictures lying around on their phones. Their vigilance in the digital realm is then completely nullified by the way they conduct themselves irl—they’re walked in on by (1) their aunt aka Rylie’s guardian and (2) Hudson’s roommate at college, all within a week of getting together. I know the risk of being caught is part of the allure of incestuous relationships, but these clowns need to learn to keep it in their pants at least until they can find a closet.

In my opinion this story would have benefitted from an Outsider POV or two. Not every story needs one—Cathy Dollanganger’s first-person POV is more than adequate to carry Flowers in the Attic, and speaking of authors who are shoddy stylists, look at how bad V.C. Andrews was, and how little it mattered—but there’s not enough substance to either Hudson or Rylie’s characters for their alternating POVs to keep the reader invested. In brief, Rylie’s clinically depressed, and Hudson’s attending college on a baseball scholarship. There’s a scene where they watch a movie together and end up fucking on the couch, which would usually be my jam (standard sibling interaction leads to white-hot sex), except I was boooooored. There’s a scene where she visits him at school and they go skinny-dipping in a lake with some of his friends, and they both have to fight off the attentions of prospective romantic partners, and it ends with him carrying her to his truck and fucking her in the back off it. Which again in theory sounds amazing. In practice I think the jealousy trope works better if you’re threatened by your partner’s emotional intimacy with somebody else. And what is Rylie worried about? That this girl has porn star tits, where Rylie is much more modestly endowed. Ok you know who else has small tits? Natalie Portman. Keira Knightley. Emma Watson. Physically unprepossessing women the whole lot of them, amirite? Rylie is overcome by the same unwarranted insecurity when it comes to Hudson’s on-again-off-again ex-girlfriend, who is described as having humongous knockers. I understand how this can make Rylie feel inadequate—women are taught to hate their bodies from day one—but this chick also clearly has nothing going on upstairs, and her emotional connection with Hudson is nowhere in Rylie’s league. So Rylie’s jealousy strikes me as unearned and unrealistic.

Hudson and Rylie spend a good chunk of this book struggling against their feelings, berating themselves for being sick and twisted, all of which would normally be my kryptonite since i am on record gushing about the taboo/forbidden angle of incest and how I’m into sneaking around!! And none of it did damn thing for me in this case. The more reviews I read that contain the word “raw” the more I start to wonder if we all read the same book.

As far as canon incest happy ending goes, the “run away together to where nobody knows you guys” strategy has its drawbacks, namely that it means leaving loved ones behind. I have discussed my preference for Option B before, but that option isn’t on the table for Hudson and Rylie because THEY GOT THEMSELVES CAUGHT IN THE ACT and exposed their relationship to multiple people so they can’t plausibly carry on denying it. Especially when Rylie starts popping out kids. Look, I’m into pregnancy kink as much as the next person but it just seems unearned. As is the fact that Hudson found a good-paying steady job even without the college degree their parents worked so hard to push him to get (he was kicked off the baseball team + lost his scholarship due to a combination of grieving for parents & obsessive infatuation for sister). This is America, where good jobs don’t just fall into high school graduates’ laps (unless you have family connections, which the Hale kids don’t, bc they had to move a thousand miles away to live amongst strangers!). And I can’t write these lapses off to the influence of the genre because I know there can be coherent class discourse in a romance novel.

A professor of mine once gave me a copy of Reading the Romance: Women, Patriarchy and Popular Literature (1984) by Janice Radway, and it remains to this day one of the most transformative nonfiction reading experiences of my entire life. Janice Radway conducts interviews with dozens of mostly-married, mostly-middle-aged women in a midsize midwestern American city, and finds that for them reading romance novels is a form of self-care. They spend the rest of their time supporting and nurturing their families & extended social networks, but with a Harlequin romance in hand, husbands are much less likely to bother them. They can carve out time and space for themselves, they can draw from these escapist fantasies the emotional sustenance that their marriages/children are not providing. They can form friendships with like-minded women who also read a lot of romance. It resonated deeply with me even if I’m not a middle-aged white homemaker in middle America in 1984, because ever since, I’ve been very clear-eyed about why I read romance: To meet my own emotional needs that are for some reason not being met by my existing meatspace relationships. That, to me, is the point of the romance genre, and to hell with character and plot. And that’s why I say Hale let me down, because it didn’t succeed in making me feel anything.

There’s a post floating around that contrasts the way we categorize published fiction (by genre, ie. what happens—wizards or starships? corsets or lawyers?) with fanfiction, which is organized based on how it makes us feel: fluff, angst, hurt/comfort, etc. And fic has never let me down in that department, so I guess that’s why romance and fanfic fall under the same mental classification in my head. okay but ??? heres my little onion which i admit, is unconfirmed, i have not made any sort of survey amongst the s*******ool fandom but i am very confident in this onion of mine: 

what they do is watch cartoons, see cherry picked panels on tumblr and consume fanart and fanfiction. and this literally isnt just a thing that happens in sp********ool fandom, it happens in every popular comicbook fandom, like take for example batfamily and batkids. a lot of people are fans of the various robins and they form their opinion SOLELY on fan material, which is a very interesting fan-trend to consider from a scholarly perspective, but speaking from a perspective of a fan who reads source material – it’s annoying as all fuck. and dont say this is a classicst issue bc trust me, if somebody can google spiderman on putlocker, they definitely can google spiderman comics. or a guide ‘how to start reading spiderman comics’ 

but thats the thing with consuming FANcontent generated by FANS when you are a FAN. it gets stagnant very fast and it is just the same regurtitated shit. peter is a twink, whos delicate but very loving. wade is wacky and random, represents freedom from society’s rules, but at the same time hes a broken man and thats why he needs a loving twink to fix him. its all very basic and self-indulgent, in the same way ‘50 shades of grey’ is (yes i went there). is that a bad thing, well, no not usually (if you ignore the underage thing which u shouldnt). 

the problem with sp*******ool is that the fans DONT ignore the underage thing, dont explore the characterization established in comics (they prefer the simplified cartoon version) and they just love to drag other ships into this mess. they catch a glimpse of c*blepool in the tag, they dont know shit about it but what they do knoow is that cable looks like a big man and hes old, so he must have abused wade in some sort of way right?? they go ‘i havent read the comics so i dont know anything abt relationship between wade and nate but now i can tag my ao3 omegaverse as c*blepool because i wrote a scene about how nathan beat the shit out of wade and peter can now glue him back and fuck i wish i could fix a man myself, maybe then he’d love me forever and i wouldnt have to live in anxiety of being abandoned for who i am as a person !!!’ 

and that sucks. but not as much as the constant mischaracterization of the two character that matter the most in the ship– or the fact that the main reason… the MAIN reason spiderman and deadpool get paired up in titles is because theyre two main red cash cows that bring in money every time they appear together in a comic, ANY comic

so put em together and what do u get…. $$$$$ for the mister mickel mouse himself…… 

anyways i think shipping s/p/i/d/e/y/p/o/o/l is gross at worst (when we think abt cinematic universes for example) or creatively stagnant at best (when its about comicverse)

Name: K/orekiyo Shing.uuji. (Sorry but,,, I’m going to be talking about some uncomfy stuff and I’d really rather it not go in the tag riuguir). 

Nicknames: Sweet/Gentle Korekiyo, Kiyo, Korey (Hagakure why...), Shitguuji, ‘shit eating worm’, ‘slug’, ‘creep show’ (I love you Miu). 

Orientation: Pansexual Panromantic (No preference.) 

Preferred pet names: I think Korekiyo would find petnames to be interesting. I... actually like that he offers the name ‘Kiyo’ on first meeting, it creates a sense of immediate familiarity between himself and his peers - exactly what he wants as an anthropologist, after all. Additionally, it means ‘Korekiyo’ is a name reserved only for his Sister - which we’ll get into later. Obviously, he doesn’t particularly like being compared to an insect or dung, and would prefer only beautiful things be associated with him. 

Relationship status: He’s currently in a fully committed romantic relationship with his own tulpa. He truly believes that his dead Sister’s spirit rests inside of him and they are continuing the loving partnership they had in life - but she does not. This is a coping mechanism born out  of impossible grief, and he does have brief moments of self-awareness. In those moments, the world feels sterile and empty. This is his reality.   

Favorite canon ship:  H E  I S  T H E  C A N O N  S H I P.   In all seriousness, I do find the relationship he has with the tulpa to be incredibly fascinating, fucked up and inherently unhealthy. The tulpa is simultaneously the only thing keeping him alive, and simultaneously destroying any development he could possibly have. He cannot overcome grief without it, he cannot overcome grief with it.  And if he just didn’t ... you know... kill people because of it, I feel that the tulpa perfectly embodies the theme of the game. A lie can sometimes be good, can sometimes even save lives - and that is what his coping mechanism is -  simply an incredibly well-fabricated lie. He’s such a fascinating and... oddly tragic character because of it. 

Favorite non-canon ships: I really like Korekiyo/Rantaro! Their interactions in the board game were incredibly sweet... Korekiyo is actually concerned with his health! He asks after him! They visit each other inbetween trips! K O R E K I Y O  H A S  A  F R I E N D ??? And I know you could read that he’s just getting close to him in order to kill his sisters... but? He was doing all of those things before he even knew Amami had sisters! 

I really... really feel like Amami is one of the very few people who would have the patience and the kindness to help Korekiyo work through the whole tulpacest situation. I... Idk, I just have this really profound image of Kiyo finally asking Rantaro if he wants to meet his Sister, and Amami is hesitant at first - like, he knows by now that... something weird is going on, but it’s okay, he trusts his friend enough to see where this is going...  And then Kiyo takes the mask down, and Amami’s heart just. Breaks as Sister says ‘hello’ to him, her lip trembling - and he finally clicks it all together and he understands. And then he rushes forwards and just wraps her in the tightest embrace, and her eyes immediately turn to glass and she just sobs because this is the first time he’s been hugged properly in years, and suddenly all that time spent hugging himself is... not enough. Bluuhhh and that’s my sickly-sweet power fantasy, eventually Amami helps Korekiyo get over the tulpa and accept death (or he supports his friend’s coping mechanism and they enter into a more complicated relationship) - either way, GOD. That’s the healthiest Kiyo ship I can think of and I Am Here For It. 

A quick note on shipping: Korekiyo is really... really difficult to ship. He firmly believes his one true love is inside of him, and he has sacrificed everything to fulfil that delusion. Unpicking it would be a long and hard process, and cheating on her is not going to be an option unless it’s like. a very very very clear one-time affair. Even then, he’s... unlikely to get completely physical with you - and falling in love is simply not an option........ at least, not right away. Any shipping I did with Kiyo would have to be delicately paced and involve a lot of plotting/threading. 

Opinion on true love: He firmly believes in it, and it is one of the only matters (asides from death) where he will suddenly start acting illogical. Anything concerning love makes him highly emotional, but he would also expose that ‘real’ love is not a physical connection, it is something that is worked on and reshaped and kneaded over time. He is extremely romantic,  to say the least, and believes that you should do anything for the one you love. 

Opinion on love at first sight: Although this is something ever present in folklore, fiction and fantasy - he believes that love takes more than a mere moment. It’s something that requires tending to - even if it begins like a hot-flash in the pan. 

How ‘romantic’ are they: Very.... Korekiyo’s appearance may imply anything but, but he is a highly romantic person. He enjoys affection, soft touches, hugs, being squeezed, giving gifts, huge gestures, romcoms, holding hands, dates... I could go on. He adores the saccharine and can be incredibly gentle when it comes to matters of love.  

Ideal physical traits: Korekiyo would struggle with this question - after all, his pet theory is that all humanity is beautiful. Beauty is alluring, and beauty is born from the soul - less so the body. However... He has an aesthetic appreciation for features similar to his own - archaic beauty, ink-brush strokes for hair, well-kept and slender. But! Tbh, radiant love overcomes any physical imperfections, his tastes bent to his heart’s desires. 

Ideal personality traits: He is particularly drawn to bright, effervescent people. Those who possess a deep, unending curiosity - who possess wit and good humour, intelligence and grace. There are many traits that he admires - just as there are many roles in this great kabuki play of life. However, above all else... A thirst for life. If your character displays a drive to survive against all odds, a ‘fuck you’ attitude to death - then his heart sings. Bravery in the face of impossible odds, an unwavering heart, hope blossoming amongst  the tangled thorns of despair... cliche, yes, but traits he finds incredibly attractive.  Additionally, he really enjoys being approached by someone else. His love hotel scene begins with Saihara taking an interest in him, after all. 

Unattractive physical traits: Hmm, again... there really aren’t many. 

Unattractive personality traits: He is not fond of people who are loud-mouthed and quick to interrupt him. He really dislikes those who shut down intelligent conversation, or think of him as boring, or refuse to pay attention. He hates promises being broken, and he will blame himself for being a poor teacher if someone shows even the slightest disinterest in what he has to say.  He also dislikes those he cannot pin down easily. If he cannot assign you a role and you baffle him with layers of inconsistencies/lies, he’s... going to lose interest, fast. If, however, he can pick up some threads of your puzzle - he’ll have... so much fun deciphering you that he’ll get lose in it.  Overall, it can be difficult to predict what traits Korekiyo is going to find unattractive since he is forever fishing for your beauty... 

Ideal date: Travelling, discussing anthropology, consuming media and analysing it afterwards... but more romantic moments are appreciated, too. If it’s an activity that allows him to revel in your beauty... he’s down, lmao. 

Do they have a type? Immensely passionate, confident & bright people!  

Average relationship length: Forever...

Preferred nonsexual intimacy: Being held/holding. I mean. The boy literally hugs himself bc no one else will... he’s honestly so desperate for this kind of physical affection that it breaks my heart on some level. Please.. someone... anyone.... hug him,,,,  Outside of this, while sexual intimacy can be incredibly loving and important in a relationship, I think he values nonsexual intimacy more. I know! This sounds! Really weird! Coming from! The self-declared rope man! But! He constantly reiterates that love does not have to be ‘a physical connection’. So... honestly - beyond cuddling, his favourite thing to do to express intimacy is probably  just to talk. Talk and talk and talk. Enjoy doing things together, be in one another’s company, revel in the beautiful connection between you both  - the real meat of a relationship, you know? 

Commitment level: He’ll literally destroy himself and give up his flesh in order to let you inhabit his body if u go and die on him. And although he indulges his curiosity  in the love hotel scene... we have to remember that that is his fantasy. In the dating sim mode, he repeatedly shies away from sexual topics/intimacy (though he expresses they are normal human behaviours and he respects/is intrigued by Saihara because of them), because it would be ‘cheating’. Then again, he does claim that he tied up a whole village of women, so....

The thing is, Korekiyo’s. Well. What counts as ‘cheating’ might be a little fluid - can he indulge in Kinbaku because he’s doing it for ‘anthropological’ reasons? How far does that card stretch? He seemed to be aware that he actions with Saihara were dodgy given how much he emphasised it was a one-time affair... so, idk. GENERALLY THO I’d argue he is more committed than most, lmao. 

Opinion of public affection: He wants it, but it makes him incredibly uncomfortable. Like. Ideally he could be physical with his partner near constantly - but he’s learned that matters of love are best kept private, and with good reason. 

Past relationships: My personal headcanon is that his Sister is around a year & a half older than him, and they have been engaging in taboo acts since he was around 13. It’s... highly uncomfortable to think about, but. Yeah, so. Considering he still thinks he is in this relationship, they’ve been ‘together’ for 4-5 years.
