I love the college of winterhold. everyone there is casually deranged and there's like an alarming number of students and staff who threaten you immediately when they meet you. it's always one of the first questlines I do. which makes it even funnier when you get made the arch-mage of the college. I'm level 12 and got through this questline knowing exactly 3 spells. what do you mean you want me to lead the college. this school CANNOT be an accredited institution

Okay for a while my genshin bio was "Arlecchino simp, Childe stan, Dottore apologist" and while that was my bio, someone joined my world and asked me why I liked Dottore? At the time I just said heeheehoohoo man funny cause that's true but thinking about it, I've realised why I like Dottore.

So, picture this. I joined genshin in around 3.2ish. I didn't do any events that I hadn't unlocked the story for and I wasn't really in the fandom. So lil old me was just playing through the story, and having the time of my life in Sumeru cause it was so fucking weird.

Then. You defeat the big boss. You cry about Rukkhadevata. Nahida is gonna give us some lore now, right?? Nope get fucking flashbanged.

So this was already shocking enough then out walks Mr Doctor, who had seemingly left Sumeru in a boat. Okay weird, guess he came back. WAIT WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE HAS CLONES?!?! And then his clones get merked the second I find out about them?!!?!?

So I'm reeling from that when he promises knowledge not even the god of wisdom knows. And I perk up cause lore!!! I like lore!!! Then. Then the motherfucker. He says "Sky's fake."

Remember, I knew none of this. Bitch just dropped sky's fake on my head out of nowhere. And while I was going "THE SKY IS FUCKING WHAT?!?!!?" Man just casually faded to black. Like he hadn't dropped the most batshit insane lore possible.

Now if you're normal and you knew the background genshin lore, that would make sense. You already know about the fake sky and Dottore's segments and all, so the casual delivery totally tracks.

But I didn't. So to me this man walked up, drugged us, revealed he had clones, murdered said clones, then dropped one of genshins biggest lore bombs before fucking off. In the space of one conversation. Fucking iconic.

So that's why I like Dottore :)

One thing that has deeply annoyed me about the response from Americans/Westerners about this week's events in Korea is that a lot of them, including people I like and respect, are like, "The protesting civilians and lawmakers who barged into the National Assembly would've been shot if this were the U.S./this would've never happened in the U.S. because people are too afraid of being shot." There's some truth to that, at least with regard to state violence, but I'm fed up because it doesn't account for how frightening this could have turned out to be had it not been for how much of an inept flop dunce Yoon Sukyeol is. It minimizes the courage of those who showed up.

Sure, it was likely that the military and riot police wouldn't have done much (again, YSY's self-coup wasn't thought out well, and there's more evidence of that as military officials and soldiers are speaking up about the lack of information they received, but I'll refrain from talking about that to avoid making this even longer than it inevitably will be, knowing myself), but let's not pretend there haven't been issues with them in recent years. They pepper sprayed and used water cannons during an anniversary rally for the Sewol ferry victims (x) (x) (if you don't understand how unbelievably cruel that is, look into the horrific Sewol ferry sinking). They tear gassed crowds (Korea has a gruesome history of this) and sprayed water cannons, and citizens have been injured and killed during the 2015 protests and 2016-17 Park Geunhye impeachment protests, notably Baek Namgi, an elderly activist whose death caused global outrage (x) (x). Park Geunhye was going to enforce martial law during those protests according to a leaked document, with hundreds of tanks, thousands of soldiers and special force troops! (x)

Not to mention, there are decades of extreme state violence that have scarred an entire country and are still super fresh for a huge percentage of the population. Again, check out that tear gas history piece. Look up the April Revolution, Gwangju massacre, and June uprising and see just how bloody they were. Thousands of civilians were tortured and killed. Look at how many protests were going on year after year during the 1980s. That isn't that long ago! All those older people who ran to the National Assembly to stop the coup? You bet a lot of them were college students who protested during that time or knew people who did. All the younger people? They may not have experienced what it was like living under martial law, but as I said, state violence still occurs, however much it's dwindled over the years, and you have to account for generational trauma. I don't think I'll ever forget the way I felt when I saw the breaking news alert about the martial law declaration on December 3. I've never experienced that, at least to that degree.

Instead of viewing the response from civilians and elected officials through the framework of police brutality in the U.S., it should be contextualized using Korea's own history. Thankfully most of the serious discussions are doing this, but like I said, even people who are smart about reading up on things have reflected on how this wouldn't fly in the U.S., not because of the difference in protest history, civil movements, and public engagement with both in the two countries but because of the military/police response. There's an insinuation there that Koreans would be more reluctant to do what they did if they knew what it's like to live in fear of violence instead of living in such a safe country like Korea...and I want to yell.

It was monumentally brave of everyone to do what they did to stop the coup. We're all laughing at how stupid the coup was and there's a reason why people were more furious than scared because of the political history of Korea and the laws set in place to protect the democracy and neutralize coup attempts, but this could have easily become a disaster. It's not alarmist of me to say so because there was no way for anyone to be 100% sure of how the military would react—especially when no one knew what the hell was going on.

cfoolish morals are central to all the conflict he faces in such a compelling way. it's specifically the fact he holds himself to a higher moral standard then the people around him— he won't kill people and won't take revenge. and those choices cost him everything again and again and again and he keeps making them. he keeps choosing to be kind, to be forgiving, to be lenient, and throughout the story he loses more and more people— through betrayal, through distance, through loss of faith.

one of the most interesting to me is csam bc sam never hurts him, but it's sam's action in the prison that completely change how not just how foolish views Sam, but foolish's entire worldview. "Maybe you are right, maybe everyone's a scumbag". But this damages foolish's and sam's relationship to the point that the June 6th conversation is one of the last they ever have in canon. bc foolish's morals can't let him stomach being friends with someone who would do that. sam was his friend. And it's this loss of faith in his friend that shakes foolish to his very core— to the point he starts considering throwing everything he believes away, because why is he holding himself to a standard no one else is?

Thinking about how Haru worships Tarhos like a god, because he was the only thing that answered his prayers during the invasion and is doing something even if it's not the most humane thing. The way Tarhos's general dehumanization of people in general feeds Haru's dehumanization of Noxus and the people they probably don't even want to be there. They're just cattle for his God to pluck from the earth and feast upon in any way he sees fit and Tarhos is calm and content with his life.

But also thinking about how eventually there's not going to be any Noxians left on Ionia after a while unless Swain does something stupid and how easy it is to turn devotion into sacrificing yourself to a being that is perceived to have actually done something while others stood aside and watched it happen. How easy it is to turn people into fanatics when saved from destruction.

Time to talk about Vezz for a minute because I haven't a lot recently and I need to.

Every time he has nightmares, he's back in Theta-9.

Vezz was never cut out for the Inquest. He likely knew as much going in. But he joined out of spite, anger at his old krewemate Dhass and bitterness towards his father Vilarr. He immediately caught the interest of the Theta-9 overseer, a mesmer named Zaige, and Zaige was handsome by asuran standards. Long ears, large eyes, keen gaze, sharp teeth.

While Vezz had more stable relationships, Zaige tended to seek him out frequently. Vezz's studies in Synergetics had focused a great deal on Oola's research into necromancy and golemancy, and Zaige believed Vezz was on the verge of a breakthrough.

But Vezz only ever wrote notes. He wouldn't hurt the skritt or experiment on hapless adventurers that ended their all too short careers infiltrating a secret Inquest facility.

And it all came to a head when he discovered that Zaige was using his research and experimenting on progeny.

When he has nightmares, everything is crystal clear. The acrid smoke from chemical fires burn his nostrils, and he tastes blood that may not be his. He stumbles and screams his way through smoky hallways, following Zaige's mad laughter, only to find himself kneeling straddled above the overseer one last time. Hands clenched on a slender neck.

He can't let go; he's done this a thousand times before. He knows how this ends, even if he doesn't want to watch the cycle repeat.

Zaige cackling up at him, calling him weak, nothing without him. Calling him a coward. Telling him he was never suited for the brilliance of the Inquest, things Vezz has told himself a million times.

It isn't uncommon for him to wake up in a cold sweat just as the vision of his past begins to bleed Zaige's life from him, an unholy sacrifice to his necromantic prosthesis. Most nights, he can't get back to sleep.

Therapy has helped him come to grips with the horrors of that night, but even though many have told him "They were Inquest, they were experimenting on children. Their death is on their own hands?"

He can only answer, "But what about the blood on mine?"
