So some Leyya talk tonight!
Leyya opened up about being trans to three people initially: Zojja, her mom Pruri, and Snaff. Her dad found out after most of her classmates and he STILL misgendered her for months after.
Then, after not speaking to her for YEARS when she got back to Rata Sum, Orann was at least not misgendering her anymore. But she later found out he had FORGOTTEN ABOUT HIS OLDEST and was like "Oh right my daughter" and. Forgot she was trans.
That's his Very Cis Oldest Daughter
(Leyya insists this was not one of the reasons she decked Orann at the accountancy waypoint. This is not true. But she still says it is.)
Her father Orann is… an interesting case. Not a good one, but an interesting one. He's the middle of seventeen kids. Blended family, as is common with asura. And he thought he wanted a big family like his parents and all their partners had. Which is why he jumped feet first with Pruri after their college romance.
But almost immediately after Leyya was born he just. Chickened out. Had the contract ended early and had very little involvement in her life after that.
And this became A Pattern. Hence why Leyya has seven younger siblings on her dad's side to Pruri's five. Including one who is eleven when she's almost 40.
(Fun fact, Orann is the reason Leyya never wanted to be a parent. His shitty parenting scared her off it. She keeps the line pretty clear even when she gets custody of Chuui from their dad. Chuui is her ward, certainly, but her little sister. Leyya can't replace a mom in her life. (Nor can Zojja.) But she is there to be as supportive as she can, to give her a safe environment to grow up and thrive.)
The only reason Orann had custody of Chuui to begin with was because her mom died in childbirth. So he was taking care of a progeny he didn't really know how to care for.
Leyya doesn't have much of a relationship with her siblings on her dad's side. Like her, most of them kept their distance from them. She knows them. But that's about it. She was the only one who stepped in with Chuui. The others didn't even really know she existed.
But Leyya had been gone for years, and she wanted to at least… try to reconnect with her parents. Pruri she had reconnected with in Cantha after she and Zojja got settled in. She heard how bad her daughter was hurt, reached out to Orann so he'd know, and caught the first airship down. She stayed in the krewe's space while Leyya recovered.
(She kept feeding the krewe, Zojja, Leyya, AND Rama. Rama would come by and she'd fuss him into a chair to eat with them.)
She sent food over for Joon and her family too, but only met her a couple of times.
Pruri breaks my heart sometimes too like. She wanted so badly to be a good mother. She didn't have any family herself, since she was an orphan. Didn't know ANYONE in her family. And there was a time, early in her trip to Cantha, that she worried out loud that she hadn't been a good enough mother, or good enough role model for either of them. Leyya OR Zojja.
It was Qirri who sat with Pruri for a while to talk to her, and pointed out that she tried. She and Taimi both remembered her being around, and Taimi had been in her progeny classes when she was very young, since Pruri was still teaching progeny classes for wards of the council.
Orann never wrote. Never showed up. He even had the audacity to express surprise at her artificial eye when she encountered him after they returned to Rata Sum, even though he'd been TOLD how badly she'd been hurt. And I don't think he ever manages to close the gap, between that, his treatment of Chuui, and the fight at the Accountancy Waypoint.

An update to this: post-SotO, Zojja and Leyya decide to finally update the old device, which had been new when Snaff was in his teens and he'd just invented it.
They name the updated device, based on his original design, the Dynamic Vocal Diversifier.
...or DVD.
A series of thoughts that came to me in the shower and are now canon to our setting:
the voice change device Leyya used when she transitioned, that she borrowed from Snaff, is officially called the Vocalization Coefficient Recombobulator.
Snaff affectionately referred to it as a "VCR."
Yes, you had to rewind it manually after every use. He never updated it. He invented it when he was a teen. Why?
Snaff was a trans man! And had it on hand from when HE transitioned and wanted to alter his voice.

Realizing this has other funny implications regarding the conversation that must've happened over him letting her use the device, too.
Leyya: Whoa, you just… had this? Snaff: Why yes! I think I invented this when I was roughly your age, in fact. Leyya: Oh did someone you know want to change their voice? Snaff, cheerfully: Oh you might say that! Leyya: … Leyya: …… Leyya: OH.

Pspspspsps you want to talk to me about Guild Wars 2 and be friends. I definitely won't be awkward when asking if you want to play with me. I'm super new to the game and only remember to use like 2 of my abilities that I have. I'm also looking for a chill guild, but I have no idea how they work. You want to adopt a gw2 newbie so bad.

^don't worry about the box.

While I rattle around the drawings I'm working on, I'm sitting here thinking about Vezz going back into the fray to deal with MORE Inquest shenanigans.
Like my god he cannot catch a break. He's just out here living his best life, taking care of his garden and his flowers and baking bread and making THE best apple butter and apple jam, and being the most wifeguy wifeguy to ever exist, and then his old coworkers decide to pop up stirring up shit again.
Just looking at Rissia like "Darling, beloved, love of my life... I'm afraid we have to kill these guys."
He's not even done talking and she has a gun out.

I'll have planned art (including a couple of Surprises) this week; today was just @wall-legion's birthday and the last couple days have been spent making a birthday cake for her.

So for what I've played so far!
Amalgam: So fun. Faceroll your way to success. There really is some resource management to it, which I've never been good at, but even played by someone as mid as me, it does big numbers.
Antiquary: Look I know people were mad about how meme-y it is but I was genuinely having fun with it. I can see builds being tricky due to the RNG element, but it was just... fun.
Paragon: You get to die when I say you can die. Solid heal alac, hopefully there'll be a power build someday. Nice flow, nothing horribly complicated. I'll be giving it to Pyjax and Butch for sure.
Evoker: Number go up! I immediately go down. Maybe I'm just not meant to play elementalist outside of tempest. The summons are super cute though.
I'll try more tomorrow after work! Today I wanted my blanket bc it's getting chilly.

Characters who choose death but are forced to live, my beloveds.
Characters who have to come to terms with a second chance at life they never asked for, my darlings.
Characters who move forward on the trembling legs of a newborn fawn through the overwhelming, blinding crush of an existence they fully forsook but which was thrust back upon their unwilling beings, my obsessions.
