The next day, you received a call.
It was a Sunday, and you had decided to meet up with Miyu and Rento at a local cafe to catch up.
However, mere minutes in, your phone rang.
"Oh? Who's calling you?" Rento quirked up an eyebrow, putting his mug with steaming tea down.
Miyu looked surprised. "You have friends outside of us?"
You rolled your eyes. "Shut up," You chastised her, slapping her arm. She let out a loud cackle.
You gave her a stinky eye. Witch.
You took your phone out of your bag, but the smile fell off your face as you checked the ID of the caller.
Picking up on your change in demeanour, Rento eyed you worriedly. "Who is it?"
"Just... my fiancé." You said trepidatently.
Normally, he didn't call, preferring texting above calling, especially on Sundays, because then he would train the whole day.
A pit started to form in your stomach.
Had something happened? Was he okay? Had he caught wind of what had happened here?
"I... I need to take this." You rushed to say, eyes glued to your screen.
The other two hastily nodded, beckoning you to go.
You quickly walked to a more secluded spot, fumbling with your phone.
You swiped the "accept call" button, hands slightly trembling as you placed your phone to your ear.
"Hi?" You said breathlessly.
"Hey pretty."
He greeted calmly.
You were not.
You fidgeted with the hem of your t-shirt, bumping against the pendant of your necklace.
"...How are you doing? How's football?"
"Same old, same old." He responded. "However, I'm more curious as to what is happening with you."
You grimaced. "Have you seen my text? Our apartment burned down."
A weary sigh on the other end. "Yeah. How unfortunate. Where are you staying now?"
You froze.
Pursing your lips, you let a moment of silence fall, debating whether or not you should tell him.
"...Bachira."
It became eerily quiet.
"I hope you're joking." His tone was unamused.
You sighed. "I'm not. But it was just better this way. There weren't any hotels in the vicinity of the JFU."
"...What did he say to you?"
Huh?
You raised your eyebrows at his question.
"Oh... uh... just that he missed me. Why do you ask?"
He coughed. "No reason. But you don't need to stay with him, you know? No need to force yourself into an uncomfortable situation."
You bit your lip. It was definitely awkward after five years with no contact, but the familiar way Bachira acted made it feel like as if no time had passed at all.
Though, Isagi... he had been behaving... out of character. Why? Not the singlest of clues. However, that didn't take away the fact that him acting so distantly hadn't made your chest twist guiltily.
But it hadn't been... uncomfortable. Just something you had to get used to again.
"It's not uncomfortable. Bachira has actually been quite hospitable." You stiffly said.
It was quiet for a moment.
"....Glad to hear that. Though, you would put my heart at rest if you'd stay somewhere else. I don't want a repeat of that fight from years ago." He admitted, a trace of worry in his voice.
A small smile flitted on your lips at his concern.
You thought he'd be upset with you for coming in contact with someone he tolerated on a good day, and abhorred on a terrible one.
However, that wasn't the case. Rather than focusing on his loathing for your former friend, here he was, instead, worrying for your well-being.
Captain Thoughtful, huh?
No wonder you had given him that nickname years ago.
Your eyes fell on the necklace you had been unconsciously rolling between your fingers.
Happiness is not momentarily with you.
This necklace was a testament to that.
"I'll be fine." Your voice was soft. "They've been nice to me so far."
"...They?" Your fiancé echoed.
Your face fell. Shit.
You chuckled awkwardly, but it sounded strained to your ears. "Did I say "they"? I meant Bachira of course. And uhm... his monster."
"His... monster?"
"Ah, yeah. Bachira he uh... plays football with his... monster?"
Your voice rang unsure, and it was clear you hadn't managed to convince your fiancé as he stayed silent for a debilitating moment.
"You met Isagi again?" His voice was calm.
Too calm.
"Uh..." You pursed your lips. "...yeah."
"Oh."
"But I didn't see him for long. He just... came to pick me up from work and drove me to Bachira's. I haven't seen him since." You acquiesced in a reassuring tone despite the pounding in your ears.
"...He didn't try anything, right? Or said anything?"
You furrowed your eyebrows. "No, of course not. He isn't the kind of person to do that."
"Could've fooled me."
You frowned.
Out of all people, Isagi was the person who had the biggest vendetta with your fiancé, and by the biting tone of your fiancé's voice, it was clear the sentiment was mutual.
"He isn't like that." You sighed. However, you couldn't ignore the hint of doubt in your voice.
Isagi's personality had done a whole 180. At least with you. He had acted as if you hadn't been anything more than strangers, something that was at odds with Isagi's caring nature.
So who is to say that he wasn't capable of more?
At the thought, your stomach twisted. You screwed your eyes shut. No. Isagi wasn't like that. He just wasn't.
"He's not like that." You repeated.
A beat of silence.
"...Alright." Your fiancé eventually conceded. "But... just try to stay away from him, okay?"
You laughed. It was devoid of humour.
It wasn't like Isagi had been doing his best to get closer to you. On the contrary, it seemed he had made it his personal mission to put as much distance between you as he could.
"...Okay."
An approving hum resounded in your ears. Your stomach twisted.
"I'll look for a hotel, okay? Just keep tight. I have to go now, so I'll talk to you later." There was a rustle on the other end, indicating he would hung up.
"Wait!" You shouted rather loudly.
A few heads turned to you.
You gave a sheepish smile in return, before hastily speaking at a lower volume.
"When... uhm... when are you coming back?" You stumbled, the words awkwardly fumbling out of your mouth.
"In another month or so? I don't know. Training's gruelling at the time, so it can take two or three months, give or take."
Your eyes widened. "Two or three months? But... what about our wedding? We haven't prepared anything yet."
A silence fell.
Your heart sank.
"...Don't worry. I will make it in time. Maybe you can do some of the planning already?"
The air was punched out of your lungs, your lips parted, disbelieving.
Your heart sank even more.
"Oh. Okay then." You eventually murmured, voice cracking at the end.
You harshly blinked, trying to ignore the stinging behind your eyes.
"Have succes with training. I love you." You whispered in the phone before quickly hanging up.
"Wai--"
You leaned your head against the wall, taking in a deep breath.
It's going to be okay. He will make it. He promised.
But whatever you said to convince yourself, it didn't make your heart beat any slower.
There was a knock.
The door opened.
"You want to come in?"
"...Yeah."
Isagi sat down at the table, a warm mug of chamomile tea in his hands.
Bachira took a seat across from him, enveloping a steaming mug in his hands.
It was exactly the way how it had been two days prior: the exact same people, the exact same place, the exact same shitty feeling.
"How are you coping?" Bachira said perfunctory before wincing. "Ah, wait, never mind. Stupid question."
Isagi took a long sip of his tea. "I think we both know."
Bachira gave him a sympathetic smile.
Dragging a hand across his face, Isagi murmured, "It hurts. Having her look at me like... like..." Isagi faltered, squeezed his eyes shut.
Your paled face flashed in front of Isagi's eyes.
it was as if you'd seen a ghost.
"You know, I don't think she hates you." Bachira kindly spoke. "Just... a little bit wary."
Isagi smiled weakly. "...I probably deserve it."
Bachira fixed him with a pointed look. "You don't. It happened five years ago, and she isn't one to hold grudges, you know that."
"I know. She's the most kindest person I know." Isagi said, defeated. "But every time I look at her... I just... I can't forget."
Couldn't forget that look of pure horror of devastating hurt on your face the last time he'd seen you before everything went downhills.
Couldn't forget that the last few words he'd said to you had been cutting and vile.
Couldn't forget the guilt and heartache that tried to swallow him whole, leaving nothing but an empty, aching shell.
Bachira patted his shoulder. "I don't think I'll ever forget, either. But that doesn't matter. What matters is, is that we move on, and so should you."
"...I don't know how." It was a desperate plea.
"It's difficult." Bachira leaned back, his eyes turned to the ceiling. "She's just... such a big part of our lives, it's near impossible to do something without thinking of her."
Isagi blinked to quell the stinging behind his eyes.
"But..." Bachira continued. "That's why we should make new memories."
"...Are you saying I have to forget about her?"
Isagi's eyes were wide, his knuckles turning white around his mug. "I can't. You know I can't. I've tried everything, but I just... I can't."
Bachira shot him a knowing look. "Not everything."
Isagi stood up, chair screeching against the wooden planes. His eyes were intense, his jaw tensed. "I'm not going to look for someone else."
"No, no. I didn't mean that, jeez." Bachira placated, hands raised disharmingly in the air.
Isagi warily retook his place after giving Bachira a silent, assessing look,
Bachira deeply exhaled. "Just... try to talk to her, you know? Right now, what you're doing is hurting the both of you, and I can't keep on watching the two of you suffer."
"I..." Isagi faltered.
A silence fell.
Isagi clenched his fists, his eyes a mixture of frustration and affliction.
Bachira took a sip of his tea before shattering the silence.
"You know, I took her to the restaurant yesterday." Bachira mentioned.
Surprised eyes flicked to him.
"She seemed... pleased. Still remembered the exact way we used to sit."
"She at the window, you at the pathway, and me across of her." Isagi rattled off.
Bachira nodded. "She really seemed to appreciate it, you know? I think she needs it, with her home burned down and her fiancé abroad."
Isagi's teeth clenched. Fiancé.
"But... I think the person she needs most right now is you."
Isagi's shakely exhaled, his eyes cast downwards.
"You know," Bachira mused. "Did you know she always had a reason to sit at the windowsill?"
"...Why?"
"She wanted to people- and stargaze." Bachira recounted fondly.
Isagi let out a chuckle. "Sounds like her. I can't remember any moment she hadn't cared about anyone else."
"I sat at the pathway to get my food as firstly." Bachira confessed.
Tsking, Isagi let out a laugh. "Knew it. You even pushed me away once when I tried to sit there."
Shrugging, Bachira said, "What can I say? I have to protect my food."
Isagu shook his head, incredulously, a small smile playing on his lips.
"But what about you?" Bachira inquired. "Why did you always sit across from her? Why not just next to her?"
Pursing his lips, Isagi looked to the side, the tips of his ears turning red.
"I just... I wanted to look at her, you know? I think it was my own form of stargazing."
Bachira stared at him, mouth ajaw.
"That was the most cringiest, sappiest thing I've ever heard."
Face flushed, Isagi stomped Bachira's arm. "Shut up! It's not my fault she's just so... so..." Breathtaking. Mesmerising. Ethereal.
"...so pretty." Isagi mumbled weakly.
"Nah, you think she's the most captivating person on this earth. Anyone can see it." Bachira teased.
"Wait, what? You think she knows?" Isagi's eyes were wide, panicked.
"No, of course not. She's the most oblivious person I know." Bachira countered. "Well, aside from you." He tacked on.
Isagi's head shot up. "Hm? Did you say something?"
"Oh, no, nothing!" Bachira said quickly. "Just that if you want to do something, you have to do it now." He urged.
"She's getting married in just two months. It's still not too late, you know? At the very least, you'll get closure."
Closure. What a wonderful word. Too bad Isagi didn't want it.
"I... I don't... I don't know."
"Well, I kind of already expected that answer. That's why I undertook action."
An ominous feeling crept up to him, his lips turned dry. Isagi was almost too afraid to ask. "What did you do?"
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe signed a contract? I'm going to play for FC Barcha this month."
"Wait... that's amazing!" Isagi's eyes shone.
"It is." Bachira nodded in agreement. "But I'll be abroad. Which means..."
"Which means...?" Isagi repeated, confused, the gears in his heads turning.
Bachira abroad. Which meant he had to stay abroad? Which meant...
"You're leaving her alone in your house?" Isagi squeaked out, incredulously.
"No. I'm leaving her to you." Bachira corrected.
Isagi stilled. His lips parted, but no words came. He blinked a few times.
"...What?" He feebly whispered.
"She's going to stay with you. It's not a problem, right? You've stayed in Japan for all these years even though you've received countless offers overseas. Did you sign any contract now?"
At Bachira's knowing look, Isagi felt small.
"...No."
"Perfect!" Bachira clasped his hands. "When are you available? I'm leaving in two days."
"Wait--two days?!" Isagi exclaimed.
"Yup!" Bachira said cheerily. As if he hadn't just tilted Isagi's world upside down.
"What--you... I..." Isagi stammered.
"Yes. Me." Bachira proudly puffed out his chest. "And you should hide. I can hear a car pulling up. Looks like she's arrived."
"Wait--what?!" Poor Isagi cried out, looking frazzled.
His eyes wildly scanned the room as he jumped out of his chair. "She can't see me! Especially not now!"
Bachira grimly nodded. "Yeah you look like shit."
Isagi shot him an unimpressed look before panic overtook his features once more.
"Quick, where can I hide?"
"Uh...The cupboard?"
Isagi rushed to the cupboard, practically throwing it open. His eyes widened.
"It's too small!" He hissed.
"Well, it's too late now! You just wasted too much time sulking about her!"
"What?!" Isagi gawked at him, thoroughly offended. "I wasn't sulking! Shut up!"
"You should shut up!" Bachira stood up and pushed him into the cupboard. "She's coming!"
"Wha--" Isagi blurted out as his back roughly crashed against the wall.
His eyes were wide open, a gasp on his lips before Bachira slammed the doors shut.
Just in time, because the clinging of keys resounded, and you stepped in.
Isagi held his breath, heart hammering in his chest.
A sliver of light fell in the cupboard. Isagi pressed his eye against it.
"Hey, Bachira." Your voice clang.
Isagi froze.
"Ah, hey Y/n!" Bachira waved, hair tousled and voice breathless.
You raised a suspicious eyebrow.
"...Are you alright? You look a bit..." You made a vague gesture with your hands at Bachira's dishevelled state.
"Oh, this?" Bachira chuckled, forcedly. "Just uh... cooking?"
Isagi facepalmed.
"Cooking?" You echoed. "Well, guess that's a given, considering you almost burned the house down by making breakfast."
"Making breakfast is hard!" Bachira complained.
"Really?" Sarcasm dripped off of your voice. "Making toast is hard?"
"Well!" Bachira began.
Well, he didn't actually have an answer for that.
Isagi shook his head. Second hand embarrassment was a real thing.
"Well, you got an amazing brunch out of it, did you not?" Bachira countered.
You stilled.
Then, "...Yeah. I had forgotten how tasty those pastries were."
Pastries, huh? Isagi mused. She still takes the same?
A knowing smile flitted across Bachira's lips. "I bet you had also forgotten how enjoyable my company was."
You raised an eyebrow. "You mean how obnoxious you were?"
"Shaddap." Bachira punched your shoulder playfully.
You let out a laugh.
Isagi stiffened at the sound, his pulse ramming in his ears.
He pushed closer against the doors, wanting to see more.
The doors rattled.
Everyone froze.
"Uhm... what's that?" You asked, a prudent glint in your eyes.
"Oh... uh... nothing!" Bachira hastily said. "Probably some...uh... rat."
"You have rats in your house?"
"I...uh..." Bachira licked his lips. "Just... one big one. And that big rat should just sit still."
Isagi tensed, not even daring to breathe.
You eyed Bachira catiously, not knowing if you should be concerned or frightened.
"Well... uh..." Bachira scrambled, trying to divert your attention, as you eyed the cupboard suspiciously.
"I signed a contract!" He yelled.
You startled, tearing your eyes away from the cupboard. "Uh... okay? Good for... you?"
"Yeah! Good for me!" Bachira nodded vigorously. "And I'm leaving in two days for FC Barcha."
Your eyebrows climbed upwards. "You're... leaving?"
"Yeah. But don't worry, I know someone who can offer you a place."
"Oh." You shuffled, eyes directed to the ground.
"I... uhm... my fiancé actually decided it would be best to stay at a...hotel?"
"At a hotel?" Bachira echoed.
Fiancé? Isagi frowned. Why would he be the one to decide that?
"Yeah..." You said to the ground. "So I guess I'll get out of your hair."
"What? No--" Bachira stammered.
"He found one, just six hours from my workplace," You spoke further, cutting him off.
"But... that's too far!" Bachira argued.
You shrugged, but the lackadaisical gesture was at odds with the subdued look in your eyes. "Guess I'll have to work at home or make more hours."
"I-- you can't do that!" Bachira cried out, eyes searching yours.
Isagi was very much inclined to agree. When he had seen you the first time, you had seemed exhausted, eyebags heavy and a dull glint in your eyes. It wasn't healthy.
"I have to." You said matter-of-factly. "Thank you for offering me a place to stay, though. You really didn't have to do that."
Isagi tightened his fists, feeling utterly impotent. His heart screamed at him to burst out of the cupboard, to reassure you that of course they'd always offer you a place to stay.
You were important. Why did you continue doubting that?
He could give you everything he had, and it still wouldn't be worthy of you.
"I... are you sure?" Bachira's eyes were set deploringly, dimmed in intensity.
"I am." You spoke, strong-willed and resolved, but the slouch in your shoulders betrayed you.
"Anyway... congratulations on your contract. That's what you've always wanted, right?" You changed the subject, a hint of pride shining through.
"Yeah. Thanks." Bachira said, hollowly.
You gave him a nod. "I'm going to call it a day, goodnight." You stood up, making your way to the stairway, leaving two pairs of eyes staring holes in your back.
"...Goodnight."
You wearily trudged your way to the stairway, feet laden.
It was momentarily after all.
You let out a quiet laugh, but it left your throat ragged.
Tomorrow, you would leave.
Tomorrow, you wouldn't have to see them again.
Tomorrow, you wouldn't have to deal with the complicated feelings anymore, wouldn't have to confront the past and pretend that you had moved on.
You placed a foot on the first step.
You wavered.
It's just momentarily.
Right?
You frowned, the one side of you urging you upstairs, the other tugging you back to the living room.
A pit formed in your stomach.
Was this right? Were you right?
Did you want to leave it like this? With a measly goodnight and words left unsaid?
You shakely inhaled.
Without thinking, you turned around, bursting back into the living room where Bachira still stood, an empty look in his eyes.
Before he could react, a flash of colours barreled towards him before he was engulfed into a tight embrace.
"Thank you." You whispered against his shoulder. "Thank you for everything, Bee."
You bit your lip. Hesitated for a second.
"And... if... if I don't see you again..."
Bachira's stomach sank.
"Just know I had fun with you, okay? Even if it was momentary, thank you."
Bachira was struck speechless. He tightened his arms around you.
"And..." You tensed. "When you see Isagi, can you please tell him..."
Eyes squinting in concentration, Bachira silently let you whisper in his ears, his expression turning from surprised to resigned.
"You know... you can say that to himself." Bachira gently spoke, his eyes darting to the cupboard.
Isagi quickly pulled his head back, going rigid. His heart hammered in his ears. Was Bachira about to reveal his presence?
"You can still stay at Isagi's, you know that, right?"
A feeble smile twitched on your lips. "I don't think so."
Isagi's throat went dry, making it difficult to swallow.
"Why not?"
You fidgeted at your necklace, a wistful expression donning your face.
"You know why." You said at last.
"Him?" Bachira whispered.
Your silence was answer enough.
"And... I don't think I could bear it." You confessed.
"Every time I look at him... I keep on seeing that moment from five years ago... and I just..." You screwed your eyes shut. "I don't think I can handle that."
"You blame yourself." Bachira whispered.
You smiled. It was bleak and dull.
"And maybe..." Your eyes fell on your necklace.
Happiness is not momentarily with you.
"Maybe we were just momentarily."

I don't know if I'll ever finish it, but occasionally, I am reminded that I started writing crackfic based on a dream I had after playing too much Garden Life and also reading too many Nightwing comics, and I'll open up the document and laugh myself sick at how awful a time Slade Wilson is having in my haunted flower shop AU.
He's been ripped body and soul out of his genre and into a cozy Hallmark movie with undercurrents of cosmic horror, and there's nothing he can do about it. Worst of all, the human he kidnapped is unkillable. At least by him.
---
Slade took a menacing step forward, then stopped dead in his tracks, unable to move another inch. "The fuck."
He looked down at his boots, struggling to uproot them from the dirt-strewn floor. When that failed, he gave up and took a desperate swing across the shop counter. The little witch didn't even flinch. She didn't need to. The same invisible force wrapped around his arm, holding it in place as he strained his outstretched hand toward her neck.
"What the fuck did you do?" he demanded, arm shaking as sweat began to bead down his brow.
"Me?" she asked, far too innocently, like butter wouldn't melt in that smug, annoying mouth. "Bless your heart, dearie, that's not me. That's the plot armor."
"Plot what?"
"Armor," she repeated slowly for him. "I know you're familiar with the word. I've seen that discounted Spirit Halloween ensemble you call a costume."
Slade snarled, renewing his efforts to crush her windpipe. "I know the word. What does it mean?"
"It means I'm protected. The story can't advance without me, so you're stuck with me." She smiled sweetly. "Lucky you."
"Story? What story? What the fuck are you talking about?"
"This one," she said, gesturing around them as though that explained anything. "The one we're in. The one you pulled me into. The one I can't leave until you figure out whatever the fuck you're supposed to be doing. So if you could hurry up and do that, that'd be great. I've got shit to do, and it doesn't involve holding your hand through whatever bullshit character arc crisis you're going through."
"Lady," Slade breathed out through gritted teeth, "you are fucking insane."
"Oh, sweety," she drawled, leaning across the counter and causing his arm to draw back of its own volition, not allowing him to get a hold of her throat, as she patted him condescendingly on the cheek. Clearly, whatever bullshit proximity magic she was pulling didn't apply to her ability to touch him. "You don't know the half of it."

Idk man I just think that mizu/ena5 and its progression was really beautiful actually. I just think that the release of the ena5 song was also really beautiful and kind of the nail in the coffin for me and I haven't been able to get the event(s) out of my head all week and that I kind of want to talk about it, actually.
It's about being hurt so deeply and continuously that any kindness that could be offered to you manages to feel like a sin, that it makes you crumble and shatter but for all the wrong reasons, not because of the newfound safety, not out of relief, but something worse and more deeply ingrained in you than kindness ever was. It's about carefully measuring the distance at which you keep others away from yourself, to ensure that it never happens again ("To save yourself the trouble", if that makes it easier).
It's about realizing that the people you've been spending all this time with are drifting closer, that they just might bump up against the unsightly parts of yourself that you've tried to keep locked away, it's about turning around and sprinting at full speed and slamming the door shut and holding onto the handle behind you to stop it from turning, because you're as frightened of the possibility of another wound being inflicted on you as you are of the possibility that kinder, gentler hands will reach out and smooth over the exposed scar. It's about hating eyes that judge and silently condemn you as much as you hate eyes that simply see you and take all of you in without scrutiny, because no matter what they're looking and they're looking at you and they know that your hand's on that door handle and they know that you're hiding something because, as much as you try to keep it shut, they've seen through the crack that you foolishly left open.
(The prominence of eyes in Bake no Hana, specifically eyes looking and searching, and finally landing on you, the viewer, Mizuki, is so fucking. Visceral in my opinion. Every character in the MV stares at the viewer in a deadpan, almost judging way. Even though Mizuki knows deep down that niigo won't really hate them, won't judge them, she just can't stand their kindness either; any gaze directed at her is a loss, another prick in their skin. It screams "don't look at me" while making sure that you know, with horrific certainty, that they're looking for you, that you're being watched. You can't go outside, can't leave your room, because they're searching for you, and while that should be reassuring, to you it's anything but).
It's about not wanting to be dissected, whether it's with hands that want to pull your organs apart or stitch them back together because no matter what they're there, and they're getting frighteningly close to your heart. It's about blinding yourself and covering your eyes to it all because seeing means exposure and exposure means they're taking something from you and you can't do anything about it, much less take it all back, much less have a say in the matter. Everyone's just taking and taking and taking and you wish you could just be alone. You wish everyone would just disappear and you could live in a world all to yourself, for only yourself (but is that really what you want?).
It's about the way that, near the beginning of the Yoka ni Mitoreta MV, Mizuki and her loneliness is represented as a dark, splotchy stain in the shadows. No colors, no patterns, no way to clean it or wash it all away, just raw ugliness marring a blank canvas. It's about the way that Ena reaches out to it anyway, the way she startles when the glass shatters just when she finally starts reaching forward, the way that the rest of the MV/song represents her searching for and reaching only further out to Mizuki, even if the broken shards of glass will only cut her fingers, potentially leaving scars.
It's about how, in every way, subtly, directly, consciously, and subconsciously, Ena shows that she fucking cares.
It's about the way that Ena lets Mizuki have autonomy, despite the situation being so horribly out of their control. And it's such a delicate thing: If she really wants to, Mizuki can take the opportunity to just run away, keep running forever, repeat the cycle over and over, and maybe she'll just destroy herself with it again, but it can't be denied that it's something important to them, something she can't quite live without just yet, their means of survival. Mizuki's autonomy is their identity, it's her tailoring her own clothes and choosing her own ribbons and styling her own hair the way she does. Ena letting them have that is as much about trust as it is about understanding that Mizuki of all people should have this right, when control was something stripped from her throughout so much of her life. She couldn't control how she was born, how people look at her or why, can't control what they think of her; lacking control has only left Mizuki vulnerable to the cruelties of others, has only caused them to suffer, which is why it's so important that it's given to them now.
She had the control to make the choice to see niigo's welcoming love and run away instead of staying, and she has the control to make the choice now whether she wants to keep things the way they are or take a step forward to be at their side again. She has every right to have it, and I think the fact that Ena realizes and respects that, even if it's subconsciously, is really beautiful (there is an entire fucking Verse about this in the new song and just. God Look at this. It's so caring, unconditional, and for fucking What. I think there is something to be said about how much Ena is willing to put aside for Mizuki, and maybe deep down it isn't healthy, but for now I'm just kind of in awe)

It's about how insanely patient Ena has been this whole time. Mizuki says that she basically lied to Ena's face about telling her their secret, even after Ena said with such conviction that she would wait for Mizuki as long as it takes, and Ena is just kept waiting and waiting and worrying like this seemingly indefinitely. It's about how Mizuki danced around it, avoided it, kept the distance, straight up ran when she was finally pushed, but Ena still chased anyway when she saw that she couldn't wait anymore, kept chasing just enough to intervene and get a straight answer out of Mizuki when she really needed to, but still leaving her enough space to leave if that was truly what she wanted. It's about how relieved Ena is the moment that Mizuki finally says outright how much they want to be with her and niigo, how much she wants to try, how much more light Ena's voice sounds when she grabs her hand, relieved, the way that the relief she feels can be felt through the music, throughout the entirety of Yoka ni Mitoreta, the way that warm colors always follow her when she chases after Mizuki, just to hold onto her and stop her from running away completely.
It's about how that careful combination of Ena's directness, Ena's persistence, Ena's warmth, her patience, her bluntness about her feelings, the way she chases and holds on but not too tight and her regard for how unsafe and exposed Mizuki feels actually works and breaks it all down. It's about how she really did reach through to Mizuki, despite the thorns and broken glass shards and nearly-unfulfilled promises, the way that Mizuki did finally let her turn the door handle and step through to see what she'd been hiding all this time, the way that Mizuki's hand, limp, when Ena first grabs onto it, shifts to hold hers back as they cry in the face of Ena's gentleness.
Despite how harsh Mizu/Ena5, and even Ena herself as a character can be (or at least was in the very beginning of pjsk), everything is somehow gentle and warm in the end, blindingly so. And you know what, I think that's beautiful. And what's even more beautiful than that is how Mizuki allows themself to crumble and shatter under that kindness, that warm light, but this time, finally, out of relief.
On a final note, I just want to say that I also appreciate how all that didn't have to solve everything. The scars haven't disappeared, haven't gone away, and Mizuki knows that their desire to run hasn't gone away forever, and maybe it never truly will. But for now they've calmed it, at least a little. She's learning to allow herself to be seen, learning that when someone's fingertips brush over their scars the way Ena's did that it's only out of care, and that maybe taking in that care and allowing herself to feel kindness and safety is okay. They're safe, for now, somehow. They're learning. They're trying. And I think that's cool :)

It was a Friday—a perfect day to go outside, breathe in the fresh air, and maybe even touch some grass. But Wonwoo? He was planted in his chair, fingers flying over his keyboard, eyes locked on his screen as he dove deeper into his game. Sunlight streamed through his window, but he barely noticed. His entire focus was on his mission.
Then, of course, his phone rang.
The sudden vibration made him flinch, just in time for his in-game character to take a fatal hit. A sigh slipped past his lips, long and resigned, as the screen dimmed to black. Game over.
Annoyed, he reached for his phone without checking the caller ID. "What."
"Hey, Wonwoo!" Mingyu's voice rang through, far too cheerful for his liking. "You remember that money you owe me?"
Wonwoo leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temple. "I paid you back."
"Yeah, like, half. You still owe me ₩103,000."
Wonwoo scowled. "What do you want, Mingyu?"
"I'll cancel the debt if you pick up my sister from her hagwon."
Wonwoo blinked. He could practically see Mingyu's smug face through the phone. "...Are you serious?"
"Dead serious. Think of it as a fair trade. You get out of debt, and I don't have to leave my photoshoot early. Win-win, right?"
Wonwoo exhaled sharply, glancing at the gaming laptop he had been saving up for. A hundred thousand won wasn't something he could just brush off. And really, what was so hard about picking someone up? He'd just drive there, wait, and drop her off. No big deal.
"Fine. Send me the details."
"Knew I could count on you!" Mingyu cackled before promptly hanging up.
Wonwoo stared at his phone, regretting everything.
Later that evening, Wonwoo pulled up in front of the hagwon (cram school), resting his arm on the window frame as he scrolled mindlessly through his phone. The street was packed—students flooding out, parents calling names, engines revving. He ignored all of it, his attention on the notifications lighting up his screen.
A knock on the window pulled him out of his trance. He looked up.
There you were, bright-eyed and smiling. Mingyu's sister. You had the same features as him, Mingyu was handsome, there was no second guessing you'd be really pretty as well.
It really runs on the family huh, but your energy was a complete contrast. Where Mingyu was overbearing, you seemed naturally lighthearted.
Wonwoo unlocked the door, watching as you slipped inside. "Hey, thanks for picking me up! I could've taken the bus, but this is definitely an upgrade."
He put his phone down and shifted into drive. "Mingyu made me."
"Obviously." You laughed, buckling your seatbelt. "If it were up to you, you'd rather be home playing some game, right?"
Wonwoo glanced at you briefly before focusing back on the road. "...Something like that."
You stretched out in the passenger seat, completely unfazed by his short responses. "Figures. My brother said you never leave your house unless it's life or death."
"He exaggerates. I go out when I need to."
"Mmm-hmm. Like now?"
"Like now."
You laughed again, shaking your head. "Unbelievable."
You both drove in silence for a bit, though it wasn't uncomfortable. You hummed softly to whatever song played on the radio, while Wonwoo kept his eyes on the road, appreciating the fact that you weren't forcing conversation.
Then, after a few minutes, you turned to him. "So, what's the real reason Mingyu couldn't pick me up?"
"I told you. Photoshoot."
You raised a brow. "And you believe that?"
Wonwoo hesitated, then shrugged. "Not really, but it's not my problem."
You grinned. "Smart man."
He smirked slightly but didn't comment.
When you pulled up in front of your house, you unbuckled your seatbelt and turned to him with an easygoing smile. "Thanks again, Wonwoo. I owe you one."
"No, you don't. Mingyu does."
You laughed. "True. But still, I appreciate it."
Wonwoo just gave a small nod. "It's fine."
As you stepped out of the car, you waved. "See you around!"
He didn't respond, but after you disappeared into the house, he lingered for a second longer than necessary before finally driving off.
Maybe the day hadn't been a total waste after all.
A couple of days later, Mingyu called Wonwoo again, but this time it wasn't for any money or favor. Instead, he was inviting him over to his apartment for a casual hangout.
"Yo, you coming? I'm having a few friends over tonight, including Joshua, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Minghao. It's nothing special, just wanted to hang out."
Wonwoo was about to decline—he had a ton of work to do—but then Mingyu dropped the one detail that made him reconsider.
"Oh, and my sister will be here too. She's staying with me for the weekend, so I figured you could catch up with her."
Wonwoo didn't immediately respond. It wasn't the idea of seeing Mingyu's sister that stopped him—it was more the fact that he wasn't entirely sure how to act around you yet. The two of you hadn't really had a chance to talk much after that brief car ride. He had no idea what you'd be like outside of that moment, and Mingyu always had a way of making everything a little awkward when it came to his little sister.
"...Fine," Wonwoo finally relented, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'll stop by."
When Wonwoo arrived at Mingyu's apartment, the atmosphere was relaxed. Joshua was already lounging on the couch, casually scrolling through his phone, and a few other friends were scattered around, chatting. Mingyu was in the kitchen, preparing snacks—probably to feed his giant appetite. The usual loud energy that always accompanied Mingyu's presence was alive in the air.
But there was no sign of you.
Wonwoo made his way to the living room, greeting Joshua with a nod, but the silence between them was noticeable. Joshua shot him a playful glance, but before they could talk much more, Mingyu called out from the kitchen.
"Yo, Wonwoo! Help me with these drinks!"
Wonwoo reluctantly walked into the kitchen, but as soon as he stepped through the doorway, he froze.
There, standing at the counter, was you—completely at ease, casually chopping vegetables as if you'd been there the whole time. You looked up at him, your eyes lighting up in surprise.
"Oh, you're here!" you exclaimed with a smile, your hands still busy at the cutting board. "I didn't think you'd be the first one to show up."
Wonwoo blinked, a bit caught off guard. He hadn't expected to see you in the kitchen, especially not so comfortable.
"You're... here?" he said, unsure of how to react. "I thought you were... uh, I don't know... staying in your room or something."
You let out a small laugh, your eyes sparkling with amusement. "I was, but then Mingyu didn't have enough snacks. He asked me to help out." You gestured to the plates you had already prepped, your movements smooth and confident, as though you'd done this a thousand times. "I figured you'd all be hungry."
Wonwoo was honestly impressed. The last time he saw you, you were cheerful and talkative, but he didn't expect this... domestic side of you. He felt a little out of place in the kitchen, but he didn't want to act awkward.
"I'm sure Mingyu can handle it," he replied, trying to mask his surprise with a nonchalant tone.
You smirked, clearly catching onto his tone. "Yeah, but I'm sure he'll make a mess of it. You know how he is." You shook your head, looking back at your brother as Mingyu popped his head around the corner, grinning.
"I heard that!" Mingyu called, sticking his tongue out before retreating back to the living room.
You chuckled at his antics before focusing back on the food you were preparing. "Anyway, I'm glad you made it. I figured we'd finally have some time to talk," you said, your voice light and welcoming, making it clear you weren't bothered by the sudden interruption.
Wonwoo nodded, still trying to shake off the initial surprise. "Yeah, I guess we never really got to chat much." He leaned against the kitchen counter, unsure of where to go from there.
"You're a bit of a man of few words, huh?" you asked with a teasing grin, raising an eyebrow as you slid the plate of veggies aside. "Mingyu always talks about how you're so quiet, but I didn't realize it was this bad."
Wonwoo gave you a half-smile, feeling slightly embarrassed. "I don't talk much unless I have to," he said, his usual dry tone creeping through.
You just laughed, the sound easy and warm, making him feel less self-conscious. "Well, I'll make sure to fill the silence then," you said cheerfully, as if you were on a mission to make him feel comfortable. "You're kind of a hard nut to crack, but I think I can manage."
The tension that had been there earlier started to melt away, and Wonwoo found himself talking a little more than he usually did. You asked him questions, talked about school, and even joked about how overprotective Mingyu could be at times. As the minutes passed, he realized how much easier it was to talk to you than he initially thought.
By the time he moved back into the living room with the snacks, there was no awkwardness between the two of you anymore. You had succeeded in doing what few could—making Wonwoo feel at ease.
A few days later, Wonwoo had stayed at Mingyu's apartment, slacking off on the sofa while playing some horror games on Mingyu's television.
"You're really bad at Identity V, Mingyu," Wonwoo teased, getting a little frustrated at how Mingyu had to be revived multiple times.
"Just switch the game already, this one's boring," Mingyu groaned, throwing the controller to the side.
Wonwoo just chuckled, not even pausing the game.
Then, the doorbell rang.
Mingyu groaned, dragging himself off the couch. "Ah, right. I forgot—my sister was dropping off some kimchi from Mom before she heads to cram school."
When you stepped inside, you flashed Mingyu a quick smile before handing him the containers. "Mom said to eat it while it's fresh."
Mingyu took them with a nod, already peeking inside. "Smells good." Then, without looking up, he asked, "You want me to drop you off at cram school?"
You shook your head. "Nah, I'll just take the bus. It's not that far."
Wonwoo, who had been watching from the couch, found himself unexpectedly... disappointed? He wasn't sure why, but he had kind of looked forward to talking to you again. You were easy to be around—bubbly, charming, and not at all fazed by his quiet nature. Not many people could handle his silence so effortlessly.
Mingyu, meanwhile, was still leaning against the doorway, arms crossed. "You sure? It's getting late."
"I'll be fine," you insisted, adjusting your bag on your shoulder. "It's just cram school, not a different planet."
Wonwoo hesitated for a second before speaking up. "Hey."
You turned toward him, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
He cleared his throat, feeling a little out of place but saying it anyway. "I can walk you."
You blinked, clearly surprised. "Oh? Why, so you can chat me up again?" you teased with a wink.
Mingyu snorted, looking between the two of you. "Since when do you offer to walk people places, Wonwoo?"
Wonwoo shot him a look but didn't bother responding. Instead, he turned back to you, waiting for your answer.
You grinned, clearly amused by the whole situation. "Alright, alright. But no awkward silences, got it?"
Wonwoo nodded, grabbing his jacket as he followed you out the door. Mingyu watched the two of you leave, shaking his head with a grin. "Well, that's new."
Mingyu leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, watching the scene with growing amusement. Wonwoo wasn't the type to jump at social interactions, especially not when it came to people outside their usual circle. And yet, here he was, offering to walk you to hagwon like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Mingyu's brows furrowed, suspicion creeping in.
No way. Does Wonwoo... like my sister?
The thought nearly made him laugh out loud. He knew Wonwoo well—too well, in fact. His best friend wasn't the type to wear his emotions on his sleeve, let alone make some grand romantic gesture. But still, the way he lingered, the way his gaze flickered toward you, even the fact that he was putting in the effort to talk—something was definitely up.
Mingyu smirked, but he kept his mouth shut. For now.
"So," he drawled, pushing off the doorway, "you two gonna be alright?"
Wonwoo shot him a look, equal parts unimpressed and knowing. Meanwhile, you just rolled your eyes. "We'll survive, Gyu."
Mingyu chuckled. "Alright, alright. Have fun, lovebirds."
"Bye, Mingyu," you deadpanned, grabbing Wonwoo's wrist and tugging him down the hallway before your brother could say anything else. Wonwoo barely had time to process it before he was matching your pace, hands stuffed into his pockets.
The air between you was light, easy. You glanced up at him with a grin. "Didn't think I'd ever get you to walk me to hagwon. Kinda fun, huh?"
Wonwoo huffed out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. "Not what I expected to be doing today, that's for sure."
You nudged him lightly. "What, hanging out with me is that bad?"
He glanced at you—really looked this time. You were different from Mingyu's usual crowd. Where his friends were loud and chaotic, you had this effortless energy that didn't demand anything from him. You just... talked, and somehow, he found himself talking back. It was weird, but not in a bad way.
"You're different," you mused, tilting your head. "I mean, I knew you were quiet, but you're not as... closed off as I thought you'd be."
Wonwoo smirked slightly, gaze forward. "I'm still quiet."
"Mm, not with me," you pointed out, eyes twinkling. "Why's that?"
Wonwoo hesitated, not because he didn't have an answer, but because he wasn't sure how to say it. Instead, he settled for the truth, plain and simple. "I don't feel like I have to try so hard with you."
Your steps slowed just slightly, your expression softening. "Huh. That's kinda nice."
He exhaled a small chuckle. "Guess you're a special case."
"Ooo, so I'm special?" you teased.
"Don't get ahead of yourself," he muttered, but the faint smile on his face gave him away.
The conversation drifted into easier topics, laughter and playful jabs exchanged as the hagwon came into view. Wonwoo still didn't know what exactly made him want to be around you, but he didn't mind figuring it out along the way.
Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Mingyu leaned against the window, watching the two of you disappear into the distance.
Yeah, something was definitely up.
And as your older brother, he was gonna keep an eye on it.
A few days after that walk, Wonwoo found himself running into you more often than he expected. At first, it was innocent enough—quick encounters while he was out running errands or grabbing coffee with Mingyu. But soon, those moments stretched longer, turning into something he actually started looking forward to.
It didn't help that teasing you had become his new favorite pastime.
You'd be minding your own business, walking down the hallway in Mingyu's apartment building, when suddenly, you'd sense a presence behind you. Turning around, you'd find Wonwoo leaning against the wall, arms crossed, a smirk playing at his lips.
"Going somewhere, princess?"
The nickname never failed to make you flush, though you'd gotten better at rolling your eyes in response. Still, it was the way he said it—so effortlessly teasing—that made your stomach flip, like you were missing the punchline to some inside joke.
At first, you chalked it up to friendly chatter. But the more it happened, the harder it became to tell if he was just being playful or if there was something else beneath it.
Then came the café incident.
You were sitting with your friends, chatting about classes, when one of them suddenly perked up, nodding toward the entrance. "Hey, isn't that your boyfriend?"
You blinked in confusion, following their gaze—only for your breath to catch slightly when you saw Wonwoo stepping inside, exuding that quiet, effortless confidence he always carried.
"What? No way," you sputtered, your voice catching as you waved off the idea.
Your friends exchanged knowing looks. "Come on, we've seen you two together all the time lately," one of them pointed out. "And let's be real, you'd make a cute couple."
Your face went hot. "He's not my boyfriend!"
"Then why do you look so guilty?" Another friend smirked.
Before you could form a coherent response, Wonwoo approached the table, sliding into the seat next to you as if he belonged there. "What's all this talk about me?" he asked, his deep voice laced with amusement.
"Nothing!" You nearly choked on the word, sitting up straighter.
Your friends weren't buying it. "We were just saying how cute you two look together," one of them supplied, grinning mischievously.
Wonwoo, the absolute menace, didn't even flinch. Instead, he leaned back lazily, his lips curving into that smirk that made your heart stutter. "Cute, huh?" he mused. Then, with a glance in your direction, he added, "She's already shy around me. You think she'd survive being my girlfriend?"
You gawked at him. "Wonwoo!"
He chuckled, clearly enjoying the way you flustered so easily. "Relax," he murmured, leaning in slightly, just enough to send your brain into overdrive. "I'm just helping you out. You should be thanking me for making you so popular."
You shot him a glare, but your friends were eating it up, laughing as they nudged each other. "Honestly, you two are like an old married couple already."
You groaned, burying your face in your hands, half-expecting the ground to swallow you whole. Meanwhile, Wonwoo looked way too pleased with himself, the playful glint in his eyes only growing stronger.
And from that day on, it only got worse.
Every time he ran into you, your friends' words echoed in your mind, making you hyperaware of every smirk, every lingering glance, every low chuckle. You weren't sure if it was all just a joke to him, but the real problem was—you were starting to hope it wasn't.
Because, teasing aside, there was something about the way he looked at you lately. Something softer, something unreadable. And that? That was the most confusing part of all.
Over the next few days, it became a pattern—these little run-ins, the teasing, the way Wonwoo always seemed to appear right when you thought you'd get a break from his smug remarks. If you were being honest, it was starting to feel less like coincidence and more like... something else.
Like right now.
You had just finished your class at the hagwon and were walking home when you heard footsteps behind you. At first, you didn't think much of it. But then—
"Hey, princess."
You nearly tripped over your own feet. Whipping around, you found Wonwoo standing there, hands in his pockets, looking entirely too smug.
"Seriously?" you huffed. "Do you have a tracker on me or something?"
He chuckled, falling into step beside you. "Nah. Just good timing."
"Suspicious timing," you muttered under your breath.
He grinned. "What, you don't like seeing me?"
You opened your mouth, ready to give a snarky reply, but the words stuck in your throat. Because, truthfully, you did like seeing him. You liked how he always managed to sneak into your day, turning normal moments into something else—something charged with a kind of tension you weren't sure how to handle yet.
But you weren't about to admit that.
"Did you just happen to be in the area, or are you stalking me now?" you teased instead, nudging him lightly with your elbow.
Wonwoo made a thoughtful sound, tilting his head. "Hmm. I guess I should start charging for my services if I'm going to be your personal bodyguard."
You rolled your eyes. "Bodyguard? Please. What are you protecting me from? My own two feet?"
He smirked. "You almost tripped earlier. Maybe you do need me."
Your mouth opened, then closed. He had a point, but you weren't going to let him have the satisfaction of winning this round. Instead, you crossed your arms and shot him a playful glare.
"You're insufferable, you know that?"
"And yet, here we are," he mused, his voice low, almost amused. "Walking home together. Again."
You faltered. There was something about the way he said it—like he was reminding you that these weren't just coincidences anymore. That maybe, just maybe, he was seeking you out just as much as you were looking forward to seeing him.
The thought made warmth creep up your neck.
The walk continued, the air between you shifting—still lighthearted, but tinged with something heavier, something unspoken. At some point, you felt the faintest brush of his hand against yours. It was barely anything, just a fleeting touch, but it sent a jolt up your spine.
You glanced at him, half-expecting him to be smirking at your reaction, but instead, Wonwoo was looking ahead, his expression unreadable.
The silence stretched between you for a beat too long.
"You're quieter than usual," you finally said, your voice softer now.
Wonwoo hummed, glancing at you. "Just thinking."
"About what?"
He hesitated, then shrugged. "You."
Your breath hitched. You blinked, caught completely off guard by the casual way he said it—like it wasn't something that would send your heart into a tailspin.
He must've noticed your reaction because his lips twitched into something close to a smirk. "Surprised?"
You scoffed, desperate to regain some control over the conversation. "You say that like I should just expect it."
"Maybe you should," he said, voice smooth, teasing, but with a weight behind it that made your stomach flip.
And just like that, the game between you shifted. It wasn't just harmless teasing anymore. It was charged, loaded with something more than just playful.
You were in trouble.
And worse? You weren't sure you minded.
Wonwoo should've seen it coming.
He was halfway through his iced americano when Mingyu—who had been rambling about his fantasy basketball team for the past fifteen minutes—suddenly leaned forward with a serious look. The shift in his tone was so abrupt that Wonwoo nearly choked on his drink.
"Don't date my sister."
Wonwoo blinked. "...Huh?"
Mingyu crossed his arms, leveling him with a look that was rare for him—stern, like he wasn't just joking around. "I'm serious. I know how you are, Wonwoo."
Wonwoo raised an eyebrow, feigning nonchalance. "How am I?"
"You don't do relationships," Mingyu shot back. "You flirt, you have fun, and then—poof—you're gone."
"That's not true," Wonwoo muttered, looking away.
"Dude. Jiwoo? Jiekyo? Mijin?" Mingyu listed off names, counting on his fingers. "You get bored too easily. My sister's not just some girl you can play around with."
That one stung.
Wonwoo clicked his tongue, tapping his fingers against his coffee cup. "You make me sound like some heartless asshole."
Mingyu exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Look, I'm not saying you're a bad guy. I know you, Wonwoo. You just... don't take these things seriously. And I don't want her getting hurt because she thinks you do."
Wonwoo didn't answer. He could argue—say that things were different this time, that maybe he didn't know why, but the usual rules didn't seem to apply whenever you were involved. But he also knew Mingyu had a point.
Did he even know what he was doing?
Mingyu must've taken his silence as agreement because he nodded, looking satisfied. "Good. I just wanted to clear that up."
And that should've been the end of it.
Except... you had other plans.
The problem was, you were very aware of Wonwoo's usual avoidance tactics. And yet, despite Mingyu's warning (which you totally overheard, thank you very much), you weren't about to back off. If anything, it made things more fun.
So, naturally, you decided to corner Wonwoo after one of his gym sessions.
You found him outside, sitting on a bench, scrolling through his phone like he wasn't sweating buckets from lifting weights for an hour.
"Hey," you greeted, plopping down beside him.
He glanced at you, then back at his phone. "Hey."
Silence.
You smirked. "You're avoiding me."
His thumb hovered over the screen. "No, I'm not."
"You so are." You leaned in, trying to peek at his phone. "What, are you texting my brother to report my suspicious activities?"
He sighed, locking his phone and shoving it into his pocket. "Your brother would kill me if he knew we were talking right now."
You tilted your head. "Funny, I don't see Mingyu around."
He shot you a flat look. "That's not the point."
"You're acting like he owns me or something," you teased, nudging his arm with your shoulder. "What, are you scared of him?"
Wonwoo exhaled sharply, rubbing his temples. "It's not about that—"
"Then what's it about?"
He paused.
You took the chance to scoot closer. "Let me guess," you hummed, tapping your chin dramatically. "You think you'll break my heart? That you'll flirt, we'll have fun, and then poof—you're gone?"
Wonwoo visibly stiffened.
Bingo.
You grinned. "What if I told you I like a little risk?"
He groaned. "Don't say stuff like that."
"Why? Is it making things harder for you?"
He looked at you then, really looked at you—like he was trying to figure out if you were messing with him or if you actually meant it. And that's when you knew you had him.
"Relax, Wonwoo," you said, leaning back with a smug smile. "I just wanna grab coffee. Not a wedding ring."
He exhaled, shaking his head, but you caught the small smirk tugging at his lips. "You're impossible."
"And you are running out of excuses."
He stared at you for another beat before groaning, rubbing his face like you were the biggest headache of his life. Then—finally—he let out a short laugh, shaking his head.
"Fine," he muttered. "One coffee."
Your grin widened. "I knew you liked me."
"Shut up."
And just like that, the game was back on.
You should've known.
One coffee turned into another. Then into late-night calls. Then into hanging out at Wonwoo's apartment, always under the pretense of studying or just chilling.
Which was a huge lie. Because, really, what kind of studying involved Wonwoo's knee pressed against yours, his fingers grazing yours every few minutes, and him murmuring things in that low voice that made your brain short-circuit?
The worst part? He knew what he was doing.
And the proof?
Right now.
You were hanging out at his place after a long day, claiming his couch like it was yours while he sat beside you. Some dumb multiplayer game was on the screen, and you were so sure you were winning.
Until Wonwoo conveniently lost at the very last second.
"You're so bad at this," you teased, laughing as you nudged his arm.
Wonwoo, who had been sitting back lazily just seconds ago, suddenly leaned forward. "You made me lose on purpose."
You gasped dramatically. "How dare you accuse me—"
Before you could finish, he moved.
Fast.
One second you were playfully bickering, and the next? You were flat on your back, pressed against the couch, with Wonwoo hovering above you—his hands trapping you on either side of your head.
Your brain short-circuited.
"W-Wait—"
Wonwoo's knee nudged between your thighs, pressing down just enough to make you hyperaware of every single point of contact between you. The air shifted, playful teasing melting into something heavier.
Something that made your skin burn.
The way he looked at you—half-lidded eyes roaming over your face, his smirk growing as he took in your reaction—made your stomach twist into knots.
The corner of his lips curled. "What's wrong?"
Your throat was so dry. "You're—you're too close."
He hummed, tilting his head slightly. "Am I?"
And then—because this man had no mercy—he dipped even lower, his nose brushing against yours as he whispered against your lips,
"You started this."
A second later, his lips crashed onto yours.
Soft but demanding, like he had been holding himself back for too long. His hands slipped down, gripping your waist, fingers digging into your sides as he pulled you impossibly close. The kiss was slow at first—just a gentle press of lips—but then Wonwoo tilted his head, deepening it, his mouth moving against yours with a languid, intoxicating rhythm.
You melted.
Your hands, which had been gripping onto his hoodie for dear life, moved on their own—one slipping into his hair, tugging slightly. The groan he let out against your lips sent a shockwave down your spine.
Wonwoo's hands moved lower, resting on your thighs before effortlessly pulling you up onto his lap.
The sudden shift made you gasp, your hands flying to his shoulders to steady yourself. But before you could even think, his lips found yours again, this time more urgent, more needy.
And you?
You couldn't even pretend to fight it.
Because Wonwoo kissed like he meant it. Like he was making up for all the stolen glances, the teasing touches, the lingering tension that had built up between you for weeks.
And you let him.
Because, honestly?
You wanted it just as much.
From that night on, it was impossible to pretend you weren't completely wrapped around each other's fingers.
Sure, Mingyu didn't know yet, but Wonwoo made it really hard to act normal.
Like when he'd pick you up from hagwon (cram school) at night, leaning against his car like some effortlessly hot drama lead, hands in his pockets, waiting for you. And when you walked up, flustered and mumbling about how someone might see?
He'd just smirk and lean down, murmuring, "Let them."
Or when he'd help you study at the library but deliberately lean in too close—his breath warm against your ear as he whispered, "You're not focusing."
As if he was helping??
And the worst part? He loved seeing you flustered.
Like the time he casually pulled you into an empty library aisle, tilted your chin up, and kissed you right then and there.
"You keep getting distracted," he murmured against your lips, eyes gleaming with amusement.
And you?? You just stood there, clutching your book like your life depended on it.
But hey. What Mingyu doesn't know won't kill him, right?
...Right?
---
Honestly, you and Wonwoo had been too good at sneaking around.
The stolen kisses in empty library aisles. The late-night study sessions that turned into him pulling you onto his lap just to mess with you. The way he'd casually lean against his car outside your cram school, hands shoved into his hoodie, waiting like some effortlessly cool drama lead.
Y'all really thought you were slick.
Until one night.
You were saying your goodbyes outside your house, the streetlights casting a golden glow over the both of you. Wonwoo had driven you home like always, but this time, instead of the usual quick peck and see you later, he leaned in, his hands resting on your waist, his breath warm against your lips.
"You're so cute when you're nervous," he murmured before pressing a lingering kiss to your lips, tilting his head just right so you felt it all the way down to your toes.
And that was the moment your soul left your body.
Because the second Wonwoo pulled away—both of you breathless, smiling like lovesick idiots—you heard it.
A slow. Dramatic. Clap.
You froze. Wonwoo froze.
And then—
"Well, well, well. Look what we have here."
Your blood ran cold.
You turned around so slowly you swore time slowed down.
And there, standing in front of the house, arms crossed, wearing the most betrayed expression you'd ever seen, was Kim Mingyu.
"Oh, shit," Wonwoo muttered under his breath.
"OH SHIT IS RIGHT, JEON WONWOO," Mingyu roared, stalking forward like an older brother about to ruin your entire existence.
You instinctively stepped in front of Wonwoo like that was gonna protect him from the absolute storm that was about to hit. "Mingyu, listen, before you freak out—"
"BEFORE I FREAK OUT???" Mingyu's voice cracked, eyes darting between you and Wonwoo. "YOU'RE KISSING MY BEST FRIEND ON OUR FRONT PORCH LIKE IT'S A K-DRAMA AND YOU WANT ME TO STAY CALM???"
You opened your mouth. Closed it. Looked at Wonwoo for help.
Wonwoo: 😬
You: 😭
Mingyu let out a deep sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose before turning to Wonwoo with the deadliest glare known to man.
"You. Follow me. NOW."
Wonwoo shot you a look—part this is it, I'm gonna die and part I regret nothing. And then he followed Mingyu inside like a man walking to his execution.
You just stood there, hands on your head, wondering if you should start preparing a eulogy.
Because one thing was certain.
Kim Mingyu was about to ruin your entire love life.
You had never paced so much in your entire life.
Standing outside your front door, you tried to listen in—tried being the keyword. But Mingyu's voice was booming from inside the house, and you could already tell from his tone that he was about to make Wonwoo regret all his life choices.
You pressed your ear against the door.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
Oop. You winced. That was not a good start.
"Mingyu, calm down—" Wonwoo started, but Mingyu was having NONE of it.
"CALM DOWN? OH, SORRY, SHOULD I THROW YOU A PARTY INSTEAD? CONGRATS, YOU'RE DATING MY BABY SISTER??? BRO, I TRUSTED YOU!"
There was a pause. A deep sigh. Then:
"I told you to break up with her."
WHAT.
You slammed the door open so hard it bounced off the wall.
"EXCUSE ME??"
Both of them turned to you like deer caught in headlights.
"YOU WHAT???" you yelled, pointing at Mingyu like he'd just confessed to murder.
Mingyu blinked at you like he just realized what he said. "Uh—wait. No, that's not what I—"
Wonwoo was dying. You could see it. He was looking between the two of you, lips pressed together, trying so hard not to laugh.
You turned to Wonwoo, still pointing at Mingyu. "DID YOU KNOW THIS?"
Wonwoo immediately held his hands up. "Nope. No idea. But honestly, this is the best plot twist I've ever witnessed."
"Mingyu," you hissed, grinning like an absolute menace. "Wonwoo's a great guy. Make him break up with me and I'll never talk to you again."
Mingyu let out the loudest groan, dragging his hands down his face. "I DIDN'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT. I meant—I don't know! I just didn't want you dating Wonwoo of all people!"
"Wow. Okay. Ouch," Wonwoo muttered, actually offended.
Mingyu whirled on him. "I'M SORRY, BUT DO YOU KNOW YOUR OWN HISTORY? YOU'RE A HEARTBREAKER, BRO. I'M NOT LETTING YOU BREAK MY SISTER'S HEART."
Wonwoo's face immediately darkened. "Mingyu," he said, voice low.
And just like that, the room shifted.
Because that tone? That was not Wonwoo the sarcastic asshole. That was Wonwoo the serious guy who doesn't mess around when it comes to things that matter.
Mingyu must've felt it too, because his whole demeanor changed.
"I'm not playing around with her," Wonwoo said, steady and clear. "I'm not screwing this up." His gaze flickered to you—soft, almost apologetic, like he hated that this conversation was happening in front of you.
"I like her," he continued, voice quieter now. "A lot. More than I probably should." He exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. "And I get it. You're looking out for her. But Mingyu, you have to know—I wouldn't start something with her if I wasn't serious about it."
...
DEAD. SILENCE.
You held your breath, watching Mingyu's expression shift.
He looked at you. Then back at Wonwoo.
Then back at you.
And then—he sighed the biggest sigh of his life.
"Ugh. Fine." He dragged a hand through his hair, groaning. "Fine. If you two wanna make out and be disgusting, whatever. But," he said, suddenly deadly serious, "if you hurt her, Wonwoo, I swear on my life—"
"I know," Wonwoo cut in, smirking. "You'll kill me."
"No," Mingyu said. "I'll make you wish I did."
WELL.
You weren't sure whether to be relieved or terrified.
But at least you and Wonwoo weren't hiding anymore.
And the best part?
Mingyu would never find out just how much sneaking around you two had already done.
Mingyu had no idea what he had just unleashed.
Because the second he begrudgingly gave his approval, Wonwoo had decided on a new mission in life:
Make. You. Flustered.
And he was very good at it.
---
EXHIBIT A: THE COUCH INCIDENT
Mingyu was in the kitchen, completely unaware of what was happening in the living room.
You were sitting cross-legged on the couch, a controller in hand, fully focused on the game—or at least, you were trying to be.
Wonwoo, on the other hand?
Oh, he was definitely not focused on the game.
He was watching you. Studying you like a predator stalking its prey.
And the moment you made a mistake in the game, he pounced.
"HAH—GOTCHA," he laughed, tackling you onto the couch.
You yelped, the controller flying out of your hands as Wonwoo pinned you down, his arms caging you in.
"W-Wonwoo—!" you stammered, wide-eyed.
"Cheaters don't deserve to win," he teased, leaning closer. His weight was warm, his cologne intoxicating, and his smirk was nothing short of sinful.
And just when you were about to absolutely combust, he dipped his head—
And kissed you.
Deep. Slow. Lingering.
Your hands fisted his hoodie, a helpless whimper slipping from your lips as he tilted his head, kissing you deeper.
His lips moved against yours like he had all the time in the world. Like this was something he'd wanted to do for so, so long.
And then—
"WHAT THE ACTUAL FU—"
MINGYU.
Mingyu. Was. Here.
You froze.
Wonwoo froze.
Mingyu's scream could have shattered glass.
"WONWOO, GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY SISTER RIGHT NOW."
But Wonwoo?
Wonwoo smirked.
And he didn't move.
Instead, he pressed another slow, deliberate kiss to your lips—just to spite Mingyu.
"OH MY GOD, YOU—YOU—"
You didn't even know who moved first—Wonwoo scrambling off you or Mingyu lunging at him like a wild animal.
All you knew was you were absolutely dying of embarrassment.
EXHIBIT B: THE STUDY SESSION FROM HELL
You should've known studying with Wonwoo was a terrible idea.
Not because he wasn't helpful—he was. Very helpful.
But his idea of helping you study was apparently making you flustered as hell.
You sat across from each other in the library, a pile of textbooks between you. Wonwoo was supposed to be quizzing you, but instead—
Instead, his foot nudged yours under the table.
You ignored it.
Then his foot slid up your calf.
Your breath hitched.
And when you finally looked up at him, the bastard was smirking.
"W-what?" you stammered, gripping your pen so tight you thought it would snap.
Wonwoo propped his chin on his hand, voice low and teasing.
"Nothing," he murmured. "Just wondering how long you can focus before I distract you."
Oh. Oh.
You gulped.
And then—you felt a shadow loom over you.
MINGYU.
Again. AGAIN.
His arms were crossed. His expression? A mix of pure disgust and betrayal.
"...Am I interrupting something?" he asked flatly.
You and Wonwoo both jumped apart like you'd been electrocuted.
"N-no!" you squeaked.
Mingyu's eyes narrowed.
"...Are you two seriously making out in the LIBRARY???"
Wonwoo, without missing a beat: "Wouldn't be the first time."
Mingyu died on the spot.
Mingyu was 100% sure he was living in his own personal hell.
Because every time he turned around, Wonwoo was doing something to make his little sister blush like crazy.
A hand on her waist. A whisper in her ear. A kiss on the cheek.
AND IT WAS DRIVING MINGYU INSANE.
He started setting rules.
"NO KISSING IN FRONT OF ME."
But then, Wonwoo would smirk and kiss you on the forehead instead.
"NO TOUCHING."
So Wonwoo would lace your fingers together behind his back, out of Mingyu's sight.
"NO SECRET GLANCES—OH MY GOD, I SAW THAT, YOU THINK I CAN'T SEE YOU TWO STARING AT EACH OTHER??? STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW."
Wonwoo, grinning like a menace: "I don't know what you're talking about."
Mingyu was this close to throwing himself off a cliff.
The moment Wonwoo got you alone in his apartment, there was no hesitation. The second the door clicked shut, his hands were already on you—warm, firm, desperate in a way that sent shivers up your spine. His fingers trailed along your waist, pulling you flush against him before he backed you up against the kitchen counter, his dark eyes locked onto yours, filled with something dangerous—something hungry.
"Do you have any idea what you do to me?" he murmured, voice low and rough, the heat of his breath fanning over your lips.
Before you could answer, his lips crashed onto yours, devouring, claiming, stealing every last ounce of air from your lungs. His hands roamed, fingers sliding down the curve of your back, gripping, exploring, pulling you closer until there was no space left between your bodies. Your knees nearly buckled from the intensity, the sheer heat of it all, but Wonwoo held you firm, like he'd never let you go.
His lips trailed down, pressing hot, open-mouthed kisses along your jaw, your neck, sucking lightly until you whimpered—until he had you melting for him, hands gripping onto his shirt like you needed something to hold onto or else you'd fall apart.
"Wonwoo," you gasped when he suddenly hoisted you up onto the counter with ease, spreading your thighs so he could step between them, his hands sliding under your dress, fingers tracing the sensitive skin along the inside of your thighs.
You barely had time to react before he tilted your chin up with his fingers, his lips brushing yours as he whispered, "Tell me to stop."
But you didn't. You couldn't. Instead, you pulled him in, kissing him with all the desperation you felt in your body.
He groaned into your mouth, deep and guttural, and suddenly, the warmth of his hands was gone—but only so he could hook his fingers around your dress and unzip it, painfully slow.
The fabric slid off your shoulders, pooling around your waist as Wonwoo's eyes darkened. His fingers traced down your bare skin, mapping out every inch of you, as if memorizing the way you shivered under his touch.
Then, in one swift motion, he lifted you off the counter with ease, his lips never leaving yours as he carried you through the apartment—straight to his neatly arranged bedroom.
You barely had time to take in your surroundings before Wonwoo pinned you onto the bed, hovering over you, his weight pressing you into the mattress, his eyes burning into yours.
"You have no idea how long I've wanted this," he muttered against your lips before kissing you senseless— deep, slow, and thorough, like he was savoring every second.
His lips trailed lower, down your neck, your collarbone, his hands exploring, teasing, making you squirm under his touch.
He was taking his time, driving you insane, and when his fingers finally dipped lower, teasing at the edge of your underwear, you let out a shaky breath.
"Wonwoo," you pleaded.
He smirked, dragging his lips back up to your ear. "Patience, princess."
But patience was the last thing on your mind when he finally, finally touched you.
The second his fingers slipped past the band of your underwear, featherlight but deliberate, you shivered beneath him. Wonwoo took his time, tracing along your soaked heat with the slightest pressure—just enough to make you tremble, but not enough to satisfy the aching need building in your core.
He was cruel like that.
His lips brushed against your ear, his voice low, deep, and intoxicating.
"Look at you..." he murmured, dragging a single finger down your slick folds before circling your entrance—just barely pushing in. "So wet already. Is this all for me?"
Your breath hitched, your fingers tightening in his shirt.
"Wonwoo, please—"
A sharp gasp left your lips when he suddenly pushed in one finger, slow and deliberate, letting you feel every inch before curling it just right, pressing against that sensitive spot inside you.
"Please what, baby?" His smirk was dangerous, his movements even more so as he added a second finger, stretching you, filling you, setting an excruciatingly slow rhythm that made you feel helplessly desperate.
Your hips bucked instinctively, seeking more, but Wonwoo only chuckled, his free hand pressing you down against the mattress.
"Needy little thing," he muttered before dipping down to kiss you again, swallowing every whimper, every broken moan as his fingers moved faster—deeper.
You were barely holding onto reality at this point. The heat, the pleasure, the way his voice sent shivers through your spine—it was too much and not enough all at once.
Then suddenly, he was gone.
You whined at the loss, blinking up at him in frustration, but Wonwoo only chuckled as he pulled his shirt over his head—revealing his lean, toned body, his sharp jaw, his intense gaze locked onto yours like you were the only thing he could see.
"Relax, baby," he whispered, crawling back over you, caging you in beneath him. "I'm not done with you yet."
His lips trailed lower, down your neck, your chest, your stomach— his tongue and lips teasing, tasting, claiming every inch of your skin until you were gasping beneath him.
By the time he reached your soaked heat, you were already a mess—whimpering, squirming, aching for more.
And when he lowered his head between your thighs, his dark eyes flickering up to meet yours just before his tongue flicked against your most sensitive spot—
You swore you saw stars.
The first stroke of his tongue sent a full-body shudder through you, your fingers immediately tangling in his hair as he dragged the flat of his tongue along your soaked heat.
Wonwoo hummed at the taste, his hands gripping your thighs to keep you still as he set a slow, torturous rhythm—kissing, licking, sucking—his tongue swirling around your sensitive bud before flicking against it in teasing little strokes that left you gasping for air.
Your thighs trembled, threatening to close around his head, but he only chuckled against you, the vibrations sending another wave of pleasure through your already overwhelmed body.
"Already shaking, baby?" he murmured, lips brushing against your core, voice dripping with amusement and hunger. "Thought you wanted more?"
You barely had time to answer before his tongue plunged inside you, and that was it—your head fell back against the pillow, your back arching off the bed, your grip in his hair tightening as he ate you like he was starving.
Deep, slow strokes. Messy, wet kisses. His nose brushing against your clit just right.
It was filthy. It was heaven.
Wonwoo knew exactly what he was doing, and he was doing it so well it had you a whimpering, moaning mess beneath him, your legs trembling as he took his sweet time ruining you.
The heat in your stomach coiled tighter and tighter, your thighs twitching with every sinful movement of his mouth, until—
"Wonwoo—I'm—"
He didn't stop. If anything, he devoured you harder, one hand reaching up to lace his fingers with yours while the other pinned you down as you cried out, your orgasm crashing over you so hard your vision went white.
Your whole body tensed, shook, melted all at once as he licked you through it, riding out your high until you were twitching from oversensitivity.
Only then did he finally pull away, lips and chin glistening, looking up at you with dark, satisfied eyes.
"You taste so fucking good," he muttered, crawling back up, his body hot and solid against yours as he captured your lips in a messy, heated kiss—letting you taste yourself on his tongue.
And just when you thought you couldn't handle any more, you felt it.
The hard press of his cock against your thigh. Heavy. Hot. Desperate.
Wonwoo groaned against your lips, his hips grinding against you in slow, torturous drags.
"I need you, baby," he whispered against your lips, his voice wrecked with hunger, want, need.
He reached down, gripping himself, lining up against your still-throbbing heat—
"Tell me you want this."
His voice was gravelly, deep, wrecked, his forehead resting against yours, his breath hot against your lips.
You exhaled, still dizzy, still trembling, but you knew exactly what you wanted.
"Wonwoo..." You cupped his face, brushing your lips against his, meeting his dark, burning gaze.
"I want you. All of you."
That was all he needed.
With a low, guttural groan, he pushed in—
The stretch of him had you gasping—a slow, deliberate push that filled you inch by inch, his cock dragging along your walls so deep, so hot that your nails dug into his shoulders.
Wonwoo groaned against your throat, his breath ragged as he stilled inside you for a moment—his fingers gripping your thighs tightly, almost trembling.
"Fuck—you're so tight, baby," he muttered, voice wrecked, strained, pressing hot, open-mouthed kisses along your neck as he bottomed out.
The feeling was overwhelming. The stretch. The heat. The way his hips were pressed flush against yours, his cock pulsing inside you.
"You okay?" he whispered, kissing your jaw, your cheek, your lips.
You barely had time to answer before he rolled his hips, dragging himself out before pushing back in with a slow, deep thrust that had you moaning into his mouth.
And then he did it again. And again.
Slow. Deep. Hard.
His hands gripped your hips tightly, pulling you against him with every thrust, burying himself so deep you felt him everywhere.
"You feel so fucking good," he groaned, forehead pressed against yours as his pace quickened, the slow drag of his cock turning into harder, deeper strokes.
Your body arched beneath him, chasing the friction, your legs wrapping around his waist as you gasped, whimpered, moaned, nails raking down his back as he thrust into you harder.
The room was filled with the sound of skin against skin, of breathless gasps, of desperate moans.
The pleasure built fast and hot, your body tightening around him, your thighs trembling as his movements turned desperate, hungry.
"Wonwoo—" you moaned his name, voice wrecked, needy, broken.
His pace stuttered at that—his grip on your hips tightening as he buried himself deeper, faster, harder, hips snapping against yours in deep, punishing thrusts.
"Say it again," he growled against your lips, his hand slipping between your bodies, fingers pressing against your sensitive clit, rubbing tight, slow circles.
"Wonwoo—oh my god—"
The heat coiled tighter, your body tensing, trembling, shattering—
And then you were falling apart.
Your orgasm crashed over you in waves, your body tightening around him as you cried out, gasping his name, trembling beneath him.
Wonwoo groaned, cursing under his breath, his thrusts turning erratic, deeper, rougher as he chased his own high—until with one final, deep thrust, he buried himself inside you, his body shuddering as he came, moaning your name against your lips.
For a moment, the room was silent, heavy with heat, with breathless gasps, with the aftershocks of pleasure still running through both of you.
Then, slowly, he pulled out, pressing a lazy, lingering kiss to your lips, his hands still holding your body so close, so tight.
You were dazed, boneless, completely ruined.
And so was he.
Wonwoo chuckled, breathless, tucking your hair behind your ear as he smirked down at you.
"Think Mingyu's gonna kill me if he finds out?"
You groaned, shoving him playfully, but he only laughed, kissing you again, slower this time, softer.
"You're mine now, you know that, right?"
And with the way he was looking at you, you knew there was no going back.
The aftermath was warm, quiet, and dangerously comfortable. Wonwoo was still half on top of you, his body radiating heat, his breath slow and steady against your shoulder. His arm was firm around your waist, keeping you close, like he wasn't ready to let go.
"You good?" he murmured, his voice deep, low, still wrecked from what just happened.
You hummed, nuzzling closer, feeling the soft press of his lips against your forehead.
This was nice.
Too nice.
And then your phone vibrated.
Wonwoo groaned, burying his face in your neck. "Don't answer it."
But you had to. Because when you reached for it, Mingyu's name was staring back at you.
Shit.
You shot up so fast that Wonwoo barely had time to react before you were scrambling for your clothes, your heart pounding.
Wonwoo, still half-naked and looking so effortlessly wrecked, just lay there, watching you in pure amusement.
"Relax," he said, grinning like a menace. "He doesn't know you're here."
You shot him a glare, still clutching your phone like it was a ticking bomb.
"He will if I don't answer," you hissed, and before Wonwoo could make another smart remark, you swiped to pick up the call.
"Mingyu?"
"Where the hell are you?"
You froze. Shit.
Wonwoo was watching you closely now, eyes dark with amusement, but he didn't move—just propped himself up on one elbow, looking like sin itself.
You cleared your throat, desperately trying to sound normal. "I—I'm at the library."
Wonwoo bit his lip, shaking his head.
Liar.
"The library?" Mingyu sounded skeptical. "You never stay this late."
Think. Think.
"Uh, yeah, well—Wonwoo said he'd help me study," you blurted out before you could stop yourself.
The silence on the other end was deafening.
Wonwoo raised an eyebrow.
"Mingyu?" you tried again.
"You're with Wonwoo?"
Your stomach dropped.
Wonwoo, the absolute devil that he was, just grinned, running a hand through his messy hair like he wasn't literally in bed with you.
"You—" Mingyu let out a sharp exhale. "I swear to god, if that bastard tries anything—"
"Relax!" you cut in quickly, forcing out a laugh. "It's just studying."
Wonwoo snorted.
Mingyu sighed. "I don't trust him."
"Gee, thanks, Gyu," Wonwoo said loudly, just to be annoying.
You glared at him, mouthing 'shut up' before turning back to the call. "I'll be home soon, okay?"
Mingyu grumbled something under his breath but eventually let you go.
The moment you hung up, you turned to Wonwoo, scowling.
"You were not helpful."
Wonwoo only smirked, sitting up, the sheets sliding down his torso, revealing even more of his very distracting body.
"Studying, huh?" he teased.
You threw a pillow at him.
"Shut up."
Sneaking around was thrilling.
Maybe it was the risk of getting caught, or maybe it was the way Wonwoo would sneak touches when no one was looking—his fingers grazing your waist, his lips brushing your ear just to whisper the most unnecessary things.
But Mingyu was getting suspicious.
And Wonwoo? He was making it worse on purpose.
Like now.
You were sitting across from Mingyu at a café, trying to act normal, when Wonwoo slid into the seat beside you—so close that your knees bumped under the table.
"Gyu," he greeted casually, stealing a fry from Mingyu's plate.
Mingyu narrowed his eyes. "What are you doing here?"
Wonwoo just shrugged, unfazed. "Saw you two and thought I'd join."
Liar.
You knew for a fact that he had been waiting outside the whole time, texting you the filthiest things under the table, just to watch you squirm.
Now, he was acting innocent.
And he was way too close.
So close that you could feel the heat of his thigh against yours, the brush of his fingers as he reached for another fry.
Mingyu was still watching him suspiciously.
And then Wonwoo did it.
His hand, sneaky as hell, slid under the table.
Onto your thigh.
You froze.
Your breath caught in your throat as his fingers pressed against your bare skin, teasing, stroking, inching higher.
You shot him a warning look, trying not to choke on your drink.
He only smirked, looking way too entertained.
Mingyu, completely unaware, was rambling about something—basketball? A movie? You weren't even listening. Because Wonwoo was dragging his fingers along the hem of your skirt, toying with it, barely slipping underneath.
You squeezed your legs shut, but it only trapped his hand there.
His gaze flickered to yours, dark, teasing.
'Relax,' his eyes seemed to say. 'Unless you want him to notice.'
You bit your lip so hard it almost hurt.
Mingyu frowned. "Why do you look weird?"
Shit.
You cleared your throat, forcing a smile. "I—I don't?"
Mingyu narrowed his eyes.
Wonwoo, the absolute menace, just chuckled and leaned back, finally pulling his hand away.
"You should eat more, princess," he murmured, just loud enough for you to hear.
Your entire face burned.
And Mingyu? Oblivious.
For now.
Your voice was barely a whisper, heart pounding as you felt Wonwoo's breath against your ear.
"That's what makes it fun," he murmured, voice low, teasing.
This was dangerous. Reckless, even. But you couldn't stop yourself.
It started as a simple study session. Wonwoo had picked you up after hagwon, claiming he'd "help" you with your assignments.
Total bullshit.
Because now?
You were pressed up against the library bookshelf, the dim glow of the emergency exit light barely illuminating the mischief in his eyes.
Your breath hitched as his lips brushed over your jaw, slow, calculated. "You're so easy to mess with, princess."
You swallowed, trying to act indifferent, but your body betrayed you.
Because his hands were already on your waist, sneaking under your oversized hoodie, fingertips grazing your skin, making you shiver.
"Wonwoo," you warned, voice wobbly. "Someone might see—"
He kissed you.
Cut you off completely, swallowing any argument you might've had. It was deep, consuming, with just enough desperation to make your knees buckle.
And he knew.
He gripped your thighs, lifting you effortlessly, pressing you harder against the shelves. You gasped, wrapping your legs around his waist instinctively.
His lips traveled down to your neck, kissing, sucking—leaving marks in places only he would see.
Your fingers tangled in his hair, tugging slightly, earning a low groan from him.
"You're gonna be the death of me," he murmured against your skin, his voice sending heat straight to your core.
And then, his hand slipped under your skirt.
You gasped, back arching as he dragged his fingers along your soaked panties, teasing.
"Already wet for me?" he whispered, grinning when you squirmed in his grip.
"Wonwoo," you hissed.
"Shh," he hushed, lips finding yours again, muffling your soft whimpers. "Unless you want someone to catch us."
Fuck.
This was so, so wrong.
But god, it felt too good to stop.
His fingers moved against you, slow, deliberate, applying just enough pressure to make you tremble.
And then—
"Hello? Is someone there?"
A voice.
Somewhere in the library.
You froze.
Wonwoo, however?
He didn't stop.
His fingers kept moving, rubbing slow, lazy circles against your clothed heat.
"Wonwoo," you pleaded, voice barely a breath.
He just smirked.
The footsteps got closer.
Your heart pounded as Wonwoo kissed you again, swallowing your gasps as he slipped his fingers past the fabric, stroking your bare heat.
And then—
The footsteps faded.
Whoever it was, they were gone.
And you were falling apart in Wonwoo's arms.
He didn't stop until your body was trembling, until your head fell against his shoulder, until you were gripping onto his sweater like it was the only thing grounding you.
And then, finally, he pulled back.
He grinned, watching you struggle to catch your breath. His fingers—still wet from you—slid up your thigh, leaving a teasing trail.
"You were so loud, princess," he whispered against your ear. "I almost thought you wanted to get caught."
FUCK.
---
There were no fancy words, no grand declarations.
But when Wonwoo loved, he showed it in every little thing he did.
It was the way he kept your water bottle filled when you were too busy studying. The way he brought you warm meals when you forgot to eat. The way he let you borrow his headphones, knowing you liked his playlists better than yours.
Even now, as he sat in his gaming chair, his fingers absentmindedly traced circles on your bare thigh, pulling you closer onto his lap.
"You're too busy for me," you pouted, resting your chin on his shoulder as he adjusted his headset.
Wonwoo smirked, clicking a button on his keyboard. "I just spent two hours helping you study, princess. What do you mean?"
You huffed, nuzzling into his neck. "I mean, you're always playing games or working. I miss you."
His fingers paused on the keyboard.
A moment later, he let out a sigh and removed his headset, turning to face you.
"You're clingy," he teased, but the way his hands slid up your arms, the way his thumb brushed your cheek, said otherwise.
"You like it," you shot back.
He chuckled, pulling you in for a soft kiss. It was lazy, unhurried, like he had all the time in the world for you.
Maybe he did.
Because after that, he turned off his PC.
You blinked. "You're done?"
"Yeah." He stood, effortlessly carrying you to the bed. "I'd rather spend time with you."
Your heart melted.
"But your game—"
"It's just a game," he murmured, pressing a kiss to your temple. "You're more important."
Fuck.
That did things to you.
You clung to him tighter, burying your face in his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
Wonwoo wasn't the type to say 'I love you' a hundred times a day.
But he showed it. In the way he adjusted your blanket at night. In the way he massaged your shoulders after a long study session. In the way he never let you walk on the side of the road.
And in moments like this, where he'd drop everything just to hold you.
"You don't need anything but me, right?" he whispered against your hair, voice warm, teasing.
You smiled, pulling him closer.
"Right."
You were curled up on the couch, drowning in an oversized hoodie that—surprise, surprise—smelled like Wonwoo. The weight of your laptop sat in your lap, screen glowing with the absolute horror that was your unfinished assignment.
Two thousand words. Due tomorrow. You had written ten.
A dramatic sigh left your lips as you flopped onto the cushions, staring at the ceiling like it held the answers to life.
Wonwoo, who had been watching you from his desk, barely glanced up from his monitor. "You're sulking."
"You're ignoring me," you shot back, hugging a pillow.
"I'm working," he replied, but there was a teasing lilt in his voice. "And you should be too."
You groaned into the fabric. "I can't. I have no motivation."
Finally, he turned his chair around, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose as he studied you. His dark eyes flickered with something unreadable—fond amusement, exasperation, love, all tangled into one.
"You're acting like a baby," he murmured, but the way he got up and walked toward you said otherwise.
And then—before you could process it—he was lifting your legs and settling himself between them, pulling you into his lap with ease.
"W-Wonwoo?" you stammered, hands instinctively gripping his shoulders.
"You don't have to ask, princess," he said, voice soft, low, knowing. "I already know what you need."
Your breath hitched.
And then his lips were on your forehead—one slow, lingering kiss.
Then another on your cheek.
Then your temple.
Then your nose.
The kind of kisses that weren't just physical, but something deeper. Like he was pouring everything he felt into them without saying a single word.
Your heart felt like it would burst.
"W-Wonwoo," you whispered again, but this time, it came out softer, more delicate.
"Mm?" He hummed, resting his chin on top of your head.
You swallowed. "You're distracting me."
He let out a soft chuckle. "Good."
You wanted to be mad, but how could you be?
Especially when he wrapped his arms around you tighter, rocking you slightly, like he was trying to comfort you without even realizing it.
Like you were his whole world.
---
Wonwoo didn't like extravagant gestures.
But spoiling you? That was different.
He'd do anything to make your life easier.
Which is why, when you walked into your apartment after a long day, you stopped in your tracks at the sight of takeout containers neatly placed on the table.
Your favorite food. From your favorite restaurant.
And beside them—a brand new necklace, delicate and subtle, but undeniably expensive.
You blinked.
"Wonwoo?"
From the couch, he looked up from his book. "Yeah?"
You pointed at the table. "What is this?"
"Food," he deadpanned. "And a gift."
You narrowed your eyes, crossing your arms. "Why?"
He shrugged. "You had a long day."
Your heart faltered.
You took a slow step forward, staring at him. "Wonwoo, I told you not to keep buying me things."
"And I told you to stop acting like you don't love it," he murmured, flipping a page.
You huffed, but your face was already burning. "That's not the point!"
"You're so spoiled, you know that?" he said, tilting his head. "If I don't do this, you sulk."
"I do not."
"You do," he smirked, and before you could argue, he was standing up, taking slow steps toward you.
Your breath caught.
"You like being taken care of," he murmured, stopping just inches away. "And I like taking care of you."
Fuck.
Your pulse skyrocketed.
"Wonwoo," you whispered, and his hands slid up your arms, featherlight, teasing.
"Mm?"
"You're not being fair."
He leaned in, lips brushing your jaw, sending shivers down your spine.
"Neither are you," he whispered, pressing a kiss to the corner of your mouth.
And just like that, you melted.
Wonwoo wasn't a morning person.
But when he woke up to the empty space beside him, his eyes narrowed instantly.
You were supposed to be asleep in his arms, tangled in his sheets, where he could keep you safe and warm.
Instead—
He blinked blearily, pushing the covers off. The faint glow from your laptop illuminated your silhouette, hunched over at the desk.
"Baby?" His voice was gravelly, hoarse from sleep.
You turned, blinking at him. "Did I wake you?"
Wonwoo ran a hand through his hair, eyes flickering between you and the glowing screen.
He didn't say anything. Just stood up, walked over, and gently closed your laptop.
You gasped. "Wonwoo, I need to finish—"
"Later," he murmured, voice low, commanding. Not angry, not strict. Just firm.
You opened your mouth to protest, but then—he was lifting you effortlessly, carrying you back to bed.
"W-Wait—"
"Shh," he whispered, tucking you back under the sheets before crawling in beside you.
Then his arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you against his bare chest, his lips grazing your shoulder.
"Come back to bed," he murmured.
You shivered. "But—"
"You can finish in the morning," he whispered, pressing a soft, open-mouthed kiss to your neck. "Just stay with me right now."
And really, how could you say no to that?
"You're exhausted. Just sleep, princess."
The dull ache in your shoulders was killing you.
It had been a long-ass day, and all you wanted to do was collapse.
But your laptop blinked back at you, merciless and taunting, deadlines creeping closer.
Wonwoo watched you silently from across the room, arms crossed, brows furrowed. You could feel his stare, heavy and knowing.
"You need to sleep," he finally murmured.
You didn't even look at him. "I'll sleep after this."
A beat of silence.
Then—before you could react—arms wrapped around you from behind, lifting you with ease.
"W-Wonwoo?! Put me down—!"
"No." Deadpan. Unbothered.
And just like that, you were in bed.
He pressed you into the pillows, throwing the blanket over you like tucking in a child.
"W-Wait—"
"You're exhausted," he muttered, climbing in beside you. "Just sleep, princess."
You tried to fight it. You really did.
But then—his arms tightened around you, his lips ghosted over your forehead, and his warmth melted into your body.
And suddenly... your eyelids were too heavy to keep open.
Damn him.
"Give me your bag, princess."
College was draining you.
You had just finished a three-hour lecture, your brain barely functioning, your bag heavy as hell.
And then—there he was.
Waiting outside, tall and gorgeous in a black hoodie and sweats, hands in his pockets, eyes softening the second he saw you.
Wonwoo, your personal chauffeur.
You sighed in relief, grateful for his presence alone.
Until—he took one look at your slouched shoulders and frowned.
"Give me your bag."
You blinked. "Huh?"
He nodded at your shoulder. "Your bag. Give it."
You clutched it instinctively. "It's not that heavy—"
Wonwoo didn't even let you finish.
He gently pried it from your grip, slinging it over his own shoulder like it weighed nothing.
"Wonwoo—"
"You looked tired, princess," he murmured, taking your hand. "Let me take care of you."
Your heart skipped a beat.
...Yeah. You weren't arguing with that.
"Sit still, princess. Let me take care of you."
You sighed in bliss, eyes fluttering shut as Wonwoo's fingers worked through your damp hair, massaging your scalp.
God, he was good at this.
His touch was gentle, slow, firm—soothing every little knot of tension you didn't even know you had.
"You're going to fall asleep," he murmured, amused.
"Mm," you hummed, barely awake, tilting your head into his hands.
He chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to your temple. "You're so easy to please."
You smiled, eyes still closed. "Only when it's you."
Wonwoo paused.
And then—you felt his lips on your neck, slow and deliberate, his voice dropping into that low, teasing drawl.
"I like the way that sounds, princess."
Shit.
Suddenly, you weren't sleepy anymore.
"Stop looking at me like that, princess, or I'll take you right here."
Wonwoo knew what he was doing.
The man had zero shame when it came to making you blush, and he thrived off of it.
Which is why—when you were in the middle of a crowded restaurant, surrounded by people—he had the audacity to run his hands up your thighs under the table.
Your breath hitched.
"W-Wonwoo—"
He smirked, taking a casual sip of his drink. "Something wrong, princess?"
You shot him a glare, but your face was burning.
"I hate you," you muttered under your breath.
"Liar," he whispered back, his fingers tracing slow, lazy circles on your skin.
You gulped, shifting in your seat. "We're in public."
He leaned in, lips brushing your ear.
"Stop looking at me like that, princess," he murmured, voice deep, teasing. "Or I'll take you right here."
Your breath caught.
And the worst part? You knew he meant it.
"I missed you, princess."
The night was quiet, the air cool, the city lights glowing softly through the window.
Wonwoo had been away for a few days—a work trip, nothing major—but God, you had missed him.
And apparently—he had missed you too.
Because the second he got back, he grabbed you by the waist, pulled you into his lap, and buried his face in your neck.
"You good?" you laughed, wrapping your arms around his shoulders.
He didn't answer.
Just... held you.
Long. Deep. Like he was soaking in your warmth, grounding himself in your presence.
And then, after a few moments—he whispered against your skin, voice low, hoarse.
"I missed you, princess."
Your heart melted.
You pressed a kiss to his temple. "I missed you too."
His arms tightened around you.
"I know."
"Stay close to me, princess."
Crowds were overwhelming.
Wonwoo didn't care about them much—he was good at blending into the background, unbothered.
But you? You were a whole different story. One talk with a stranger, you'd be friends with them almost too immediately.
Which is why—his arm was always around your waist, keeping you pressed firmly against him.
"Wonwoo, I can walk by myself, you know," you teased, looking up at him.
He just hummed, pulling you closer. "I know."
You rolled your eyes, but secretly?
You loved it.
Because as long as he was there, holding you like this, you never had to worry.
Not about getting lost.
Not about anything.
The night was warm, suffocating with tension, electric with something neither of you could fight.
It started innocent enough.
A late-night drive. The city lights flashing past. His hand on your thigh, firm, possessive, always touching.
You had been teasing him all night. Unintentionally, of course.
Or maybe not.
Because when you leaned in, whispered something soft, something sweet—
He snapped.
Before you could react, he pulled into a secluded parking lot, turned off the engine, and turned to you with dark, burning eyes.
"Out," he ordered, voice low, rough.
Your breath hitched. "Wonwoo—"
"Now, princess."
You gulped. Obeyed.
The second you stepped outside, he was on you.
He pinned you against the car, one hand in your hair, the other gripping your waist, his lips crashing into yours—hot, desperate, consuming.
"You drive me insane," he growled against your mouth, pressing his body against yours, forcing you to feel just how much you affected him.
Your fingers curled into his hoodie, tugging him closer, chasing his warmth, his touch, his everything.
"I need you," you breathed, and that was all it took.
The world disappeared.
Nothing existed except him—the way his hands roamed your body, the way his lips marked your skin, the way he whispered, 'Mine. All mine.'
And when he finally—finally—gave you what you both needed, it wasn't just lust.
It was love.
Raw. Overwhelming. Unshakable.
And as he held you close, forehead pressed to yours, breath uneven but laced with affection—
You knew.
You would never belong to anyone else.
And neither would he.
Your back hit the cool metal of the car. Wonwoo's body pressed against yours, solid, burning, intoxicating.
"You've been teasing me all night," he murmured, trailing kisses down your jaw, his breath hot against your skin.
Your lips parted, a shaky breath escaping when his hands slipped under your dress, fingers skimming up your thighs.
"I wasn't teasing," you whispered, but your voice betrayed you.
Wonwoo chuckled darkly. "Liar."
His fingers dipped between your legs, pressing against the heat that had been building all night.
You squirmed, gripping his hoodie, your body arching into his touch.
"Wonwoo—"
He swallowed your plea with a kiss, deep and desperate, his tongue sliding against yours, stealing every thought from your head.
"Tell me how much you want me."
Your breath hitched as he pushed your panties aside, his fingers stroking slow, deliberate circles that made your knees buckle.
"I—" You gasped, gripping his shoulders. "I want you. Please."
That was all he needed.
With one swift movement, he spun you around, pressing your front against the car, his hands exploring, teasing, making you beg.
"You love being touched like this, don't you?" he whispered, his lips brushing against the shell of your ear. "Needy little thing."
You could barely breathe, let alone answer.
And when he finally—filled you, stretching you with a slow, deep thrust—
You shattered.
Your nails scraped against the car's surface, your moans mixing with the night air, his name falling from your lips like a prayer.
Wonwoo didn't stop.
Didn't slow down.
Didn't let you come down from the high before pulling you back against his chest, one hand gripping your jaw, forcing you to look at him.
"Open your mouth," he murmured.
You obeyed without thinking—and he kissed you, deep and messy, swallowing your moans as he drove you to the edge again.
"Mine."
His voice was a growl, his arms tightening around you, his thrusts turning erratic, desperate.
And when you finally fell apart with him, gasping, trembling, completely undone—
He didn't let you go.
He held you close, pressed kisses against your skin, whispered against your lips—
"I love you."
And for the first time, you realized—this wasn't just desire.
This was obsession.
This was forever.

KILLER? I BARELY KNOW HER! FUSHIGURO TOJI / M!READER
summary. shadows of your past catch up to you – but you're the strongest, and there's nothing you can't handle.
wc. 5.5k
tags. smut | top reader, bottom toji. mentions of underage drinking. sorcerer + teacher reader, enemies-to-lovers (with extra steps), sorta sugar baby toji/rich reader, doggystyle + missionary, mentions of exhibitionism + filming, unprotected sex, brief degradation (r. receiving), brief breeding kink, implied shower sex
notes. every dark-haired male jjk character deserves a silly and illogically powerful best friend with whom they have romantic tension :3 you're him. literally.
The pleasant chime of the doorbell echoes throughout your home. You're not expecting anyone.
You know you should be careful. In fact, you shouldn't be staring at the back of the front door at all. Opening it would ruin the carefully put-together façade of the closed-curtain windows and dark rooms.
Maybe you're tired, and you forget, moving on instinct. Maybe you're bored.
Maybe you're hopeful.
The door inches open, and a man looks up from where he'd been staring listlessly at the flower-spotted bushes lining the patch of green between the entrance and the driveway. His hands are shoved into the pockets of his sweatpants, and his eyes are dark, flickering with an emotion you can't quite catch before it flutters away.
"Toji?" you say, the surprise in your voice teetering on warmth. "Hey..."
"Hey," he replies – exhales, really, something like a hum. He reaches up by his shoulder, the action too familiar for you not to stiffen, but he just rubs the back of his neck, stretching out the cricks of his body. "So. New place, huh?"
Your hand rests behind the door. He knows better than to expect it to be empty. "Old, technically. It was my first property purchase."
He tilts his head. "Yeah? When did you get it?"
"Fifteen. A birthday present for myself – a gift for surviving another year of high school. And curses, I guess. Surviving them was way worse because getting their blood in my mouth made me want to die."
He scoffs, and the raised scar over the corner of his lips shifts with his amusement. "Fifteen... And what does a teenager do with a house?"
You shrug. "Drink. Party. Pirate movies. The usual."
"Hah. Sounds like you were a fun kid." Toji scuffs the toe of his sandals against the ground absently. Then he rolls his neck and sighs. "Look, I didn't come all the way here to talk history. Long-ass way out, too, so just let me in."
Lifting an eyebrow, you give him a once-over that feels keener than it should be. "Are you here to kill me?"
"What, you think I'm here for that bounty? Who do you think I am?"
"Don't blame me. You seem very well aware of it."
"Isn't worth the effort for the price. 'Sides, you've given me more than that over the years, haven't you? I like to keep my options open, and it seems to me like it's a better investment to keep you alive."
"You talk as if you could kill me at all," you mutter, a little disdainfully, but it dissipates swiftly when Toji cracks a smirk, so familiar and entwined deeply with your favourite memories. The breeze stirs lightly, and Toji's hair ruffles, almost blue in the sunlight.
"Couldn't I? You're the one who runs away."
"Yeah, after immobilising you. Not a lot of fun to be had if you're dead as a doornail. Say – how deep are you in the jujutsu world? You must be rusty. I'd be willing to help you train."
"You'd help me kill your fellow sorcerers?" He chuckles and arches a brow. "I'll have you know I'm looking at a contract worth thirty million from a bunch of religious crazies."
"Peanuts." You wave a dismissive hand. "Now that I mention it, I'm getting complacent, too... I could use the challenge. Keep in contact with me and I'll pay you double."
"You're paying me to use my body?"
"Your words, not mine."
He holds your gaze steadily for a while, and despite his airy voice, his eyes are thoughtful. "Let's not talk business on your doorstep. Lost your manners, have you?"
Finally, your shoulders loosen, and the tension in your body vanishes. With a soft chuckle, you pull the door open further and step aside. "Don't make me regret this."
"Please," he says, slipping out of his sandals and into your home. "You never do."
Zenin. Fushiguro. The Sorcerer Killer. All of his names, all of his history, and yet, to you, he is just your baby – your Toji. It'd be embarrassing if he cared enough to be embarrassed, he thinks as you draw him into a rib-shattering hug. Instead, he feels smug.
Before that Gojo kid, there was you. It wasn't a position you were born for – like the kid was – but you trained your way up and eventually found yourself most suited for the role, all but waltzing into it – because what youth wouldn't want to be number one? It was almost gross, your selflessness and single-minded ambition, and Toji knew how that sort of mindset made the people in power feel. They commissioned him for your death at one point, after all.
It was fun. You were both so young: dancing around each other's weapons as if it was all a stage, chasing each other's clues like a couple of dogs running after a bone. Still – you were society's best, the cream of the crop, and for you to be his, of all people, was a selfish triumph he indulged in too many times to count.
His hands creep up beneath your baggy shirt as he leans up to kiss you, tongue slipping between your lips to share in the taste of some expensive whisky he can't name. He hums – a low, rumbling sound, like a tiger chuffing – as his fingers bump over thick, warm muscle.
Blood and bone. That's what you all are, when it comes down to it.
"You should wear tighter clothes," he murmurs against your lips. "Less to grab in a fight."
The backs of his thighs press into the edge of the kitchen bench, where a forgotten glass of water sits – the remnant of your half-hearted attempt at being a good host while his lips found your neck.
You huff. "A 'fight', huh? I wasn't expecting one."
"You should always expect a fight. While you're at it, always expect to lose. Stops you from being disappointed."
"Sounds pessimistic."
"That's the price we pay for being good at what we do."
"As if you pay for anything, Toji."
He chuckles. He drops the hem of your shirt before sliding his palms up your chest – what a tease – and cupping your face. His hands are warm, callused, thrumming with lifeblood. He sweeps his thumb absently over your cheek, committing every pore of your face to memory. You have the urge to pull away, look down, like a schoolboy with a crush – but Toji's hands are firm.
"C'mon, at least look me in the eye before we kick this off. You that ashamed of me?"
Startled, your gaze flicks up to his. Instead of the half-wry look you expect, he smirks and pulls you in to meet his lips. His fingers interlace loosely at the nape of your neck, caging you in place, and you have no choice but to bend to his whim.
"Stupid," you mutter against his lips, mostly to yourself. "Stop playing with my feelings, Toji – that's manipulative. You're breaking my heart here."
Rather than pulling away himself, he pushes you away, a palm flat on your chest but without any real power. It remains there as he leans back against the stone countertop. "My bad, baby. It's just funny."
"Funnier than you calling this," you gesture between your chests, "something to 'kick off' after... how many years? If you weren't all over me seconds ago, I'd think you came over for a beer and a game."
He lifts his hands in teasing surrender at your accusatory tone. "All right. We'll fuck, then. Maybe include some heavy petting for the B-roll, if you're up for it. Sound good?"
You cross your arms over your chest and muster up a suitable amount of annoyance for a glare. Toji finds it hard to take you seriously – what with your dumb jokes and ridiculous inclination towards flashy fighting – so to him, it's more of a pout. "So, you got lonely without me, huh? Yeah, nah. We're not filming ourselves."
"Hm." It's not a yes, but it's not a disagreement, either. "Why not? It'd be hot."
"I'm a teacher, Toji," you remind him, clicking your tongue when he shrugs, one hand on his hip. "I don't want that kind of thing to exist. If it got out..."
"So you are ashamed of me," he mutters. He steps forward to grab your hands when you start to protest, visibly distressed. He snickers. "Kidding, kidding. Fuck, it's fun to play with you. You don't care about the other one, then? The one from the abandoned restaurant?"
"Well—" Your breath stutters when Toji absently compares hand sizes and laces your fingers together. You watch as he aligns four of his fingers against your ring finger specifically, one at a time as if comparing again, but this time...
"Well?" he prompts, his grin broadening. His shaggy hair falls across his eyes as he tilts his head.
"Well, I don't look like I did ten years ago, and as far as I know, my face isn't in it..." All logic scatters like leaves in the wind when he looks up at you through his lashes, that playful, pretty smirk of his tugging at your heartstrings just right. It's like the years never passed. You swallow. "I-It was different," you finish lamely.
Toji's eyes flicker down to your lips. With a flick of his wrist, he twists a hand in your collar and tugs you down so that your faces are inches apart. Your chests collide roughly. He doesn't seem to care, his gaze trained on you with a heavy, smoky intensity. "Fine. If you won't let me film it, you better make it memorable. I'll decide later if it was worth coming here for."
—
Toji should have known you were serious when you pulled the bedframe about six inches out from the wall. He'd laughed at first, insulting you for such uptight behaviour regarding something as boring as walls, but you'd just dragged him to the bed with a roll of your eyes.
With how loud he was moaning, you could only be glad that he didn't find you at your apartment property.
"Toji," you breathe, your gaze trapped on the tight, firm ass ricocheting off your hips. Your grip tightens. "Toji."
"Fuuuck," he drawls as his cock throbs, prying his eyes open to narrow them at you over his shoulder. Lust has turned the usual green of them nearly black. "What?" he bites out.
"I missed you. Missed this. Fuck, baby, you're so fucking tight."
He lets out a throaty chuckle, turning back around to rest his head on his forearms. With a shift of your hips, your cock punches his prostate, over and over, and his eyes roll back briefly, a pleased groan rumbling from the depths of his stomach. His dick pulses and swings uselessly between his muscular thighs.
"M-Men are all the same," he grumbles. You click your tongue, though you don't miss the way an involuntary moan makes him stutter.
"Awful way to greet an old friend, you know. I thought you were smarter than that. Try being nicer," you slam your hips forward, making his eyes fly open with a gasp, "and you'll get what you want."
His skin prickles when you glide a warm hand up his side and come to rest it upon his shoulder, holding him down with just enough strength to make his muscles flex to fight it. Your thumb rubs little circles into the back of his neck, tracing the dips of his shoulders until you find what you're looking for. You dig into the taut muscle, making him wince.
"Stressed?" you hum, and your voice is gentle. Gentler than he deserves. "Is it money problems again?"
Something like guilt stirs in his belly, but a well-angled thrust has his thoughts unravelling. "No."
"No?"
"No," he repeats. You hum in response and don't push the matter further.
Your hand lifts from his shoulder, and already he can feel the stiffness returning. Damn those God-hands of yours. He finds himself arching back, bracing against the bed, in an effort to return your hands to their rightful place.
You hush him sweetly, pressing your chest to his back and burying your face in the crook of his neck. The angle has the shaft of your heavy cock pressed right up against his prostate and his body jolts with the fiery burn of pleasure, his knuckles turning white as he fists the sheets. "No need to chase me anymore. Not going anywhere. 'M right here, baby."
Toji manages to scoff, and his voice is steadier than he expects. "Not chasin' you, asshole."
"Yeah? Then what do you call showing up at my door as you did, unannounced?"
"Welfare check."
You roll your eyes. "I hate you."
You punctuate your sentence by yanking his hips back on your cock, the wet squelch of lube and precome making him shudder. Despite the rough treatment, a moan tumbles from his lips, and he laughs, loose and breathy.
"Fuck me like it, then," he dares, knocking his temple gently against yours.
One hand lifts to card through his hair. He groans softly as your nails scrape his scalp, but his eyes fly wide open as you grab a fistful and tug, wrenching him up to kneel. He sinks his teeth into his lower lip as you wrap your hand around his leaking cock, jerking him off at the same pace as you fuck into him – he swears he sees stars as your thumb and index finger twist roughly around his swollen tip. His cock squelches in your fist, bubbles of precome sliding down his tip and smearing across your palm.
"Fucker," he snarls, ceasing his split second of flailing to grip your hip and thigh. You'd consider it painful if you hadn't also had the pleasure of being stabbed, slashed, shot, and bitten. "Nngh – so fuckin' big—"
"Going back on our word, are we, honey?" you say slyly, twisting your fist up and down his wet cock. "Tsk, tsk, Toji... so forgetful. I'd say you're getting old."
You glide a fingernail up the line of his vein, making his hips stutter and forcing another curse to slip from his lips, and you dig the tip of your finger roughly into his leaking slit. He moans and his back arches against your hold as your throbbing cock easily slides deep into him, the harsh, rapid smack of your balls against his ass almost disorienting.
He shudders. The heat of his body pulls his skin too tight, makes his tongue heavy and clumsy. Your hands are not quite soft – years of weapons training and hand-to-hand combat would do that to someone – but they're sweet on him. Loving, nearly. Your warmth softens the rub of calluses and tough scar tissue, and Toji learns them anew.
"C'mon, baby... want you to talk to me. Love your pretty little sounds." You end the sentence in a whisper, patting his stomach with the absent sort of friendliness you had as a youth. You never shied away from touching him, rewarding him with your weight draped over his shoulders or entwining your fingers when he did something that pleased you.
That familiar feeling jolts him back to reality. He glances your way – perhaps to say something, but he doesn't remember what about – and you capture his lips with yours, tilting your head and running your tongue over his lower lip.
He keeps them sealed, airtight.
You groan into the kiss and nip at him pleadingly, because you'd have to break Toji's jaw to get him to open up – and you couldn't do that to your favourite killer. Your name falling from his lips like a prayer is too sweet to pass up on.
Eventually, with enough petting and kisses, Toji relents, if only to see you perk up like a puppy tossed a bone. He groans softly as you explore his mouth, tongue curling around his and gliding over his teeth.
Your breath is hot and sweet against his, your lips shockingly gentle despite the quick and steady pace of your hips bouncing off his ass. He jolts every time your cockhead kisses his prostate, swollen and sensitive from your unrelenting pace. His dick bobs, dark red and pulsing hotly in your palm, and he groans like an injured animal. It's almost desperate.
Your shaft drags against his slick walls, which clench with a rippling squeeze as if he's trying to milk you dry. With each hungry snap of your hips, your tip punches the breath out of his lungs. His vision blots out, and he swears he can feel your cock in his damn throat.
Without warning, and without a word, he comes, his expression going lax with pleasure as he releases thick ropes onto his stomach. It's four hard spurts and two weaker pulses, the slow, measured tugs of your wrist twisting in a way that has his thick thighs trembling.
You coo softly, and Toji's face is uncharacteristically warm. Little kisses drift their way up his shoulder and neck and he sighs softly, eyes shut and head tilted back against your shoulder. You press your palm against his chest to feel the heart thudding beneath his ribs, the rise and fall with each shallow breath.
You cup his chest and squeeze.
He cracks an eye open, disapproval furrowing his brows. In response, you grin cheekily and nip at his earlobe as you smooth your fingers through his hair – a silent apology for being so rough.
To his credit, he lets it go. Doesn't even smack you for being an ass. He does, however, clamp down punishingly around your cock when he pulls off, making you hiss at the scrape. It bobs and you shiver at the cold air.
Thoughtfully, Toji glances down at it, still hard as rock and curving upwards towards your stomach. He reaches for it.
Your eyes widen when he slips a nail under the edge of the condom. "Wh-What are you doing?"
"Don't sound so scared. I know we're both safe. Said ya missed me, right?" He grins, dark and sharp, with eyes half-lidded – almost coy. "I'll let you finish inside me. For old times' sake."
"Contract-sanctioned stalking? I thought better of you, Toji." Despite your flippant words, your breath hitches, and Toji's grin widens. He tugs the slick condom off and tosses it aside – without even tying it up, the bastard – and before you can grumble about it, he grabs your jaw, forcing you to look at him, and presses his lips to yours.
You groan softly as he parts his lips and allows you in. He shifts closer, his knee between yours, and grabs your hand. He brings it down between your bodies.
"Baby..." you whisper as he wraps your hand around your lengths, pressed together. He is hot and velvety in your palm.
"Mm." The sound is deep and content, and he blinks up at you slowly like a cat. "I know. I want it."
Then, slinging his arm loosely around your shoulders, he pulls you down with him.
You barely manage to catch yourself before crushing him, your instincts and reflexes dulled by familiarity and a dreamy languor. Not that you think he'd mind – not with that grin.
Toji spreads his knees and hooks his calves around your thighs. He guides your cock into him again, and he rumbles out a pleased moan as it buries itself hilt-deep into his slick warmth.
His head falls back against the pillows as you press your hips flush against his ass. "Ah, shit..."
"You good, baby?" you murmur, swallowing harshly as his gummy walls flutter tightly around you, as if he can lock you inside forever. Your dick twitches.
"Mmh, fuck, jus' sensitive. Move."
It's only natural that you obey.
Toji feels hotter now that you don't have the layer of plastic to contend with – hotter, wetter, hungrier. You thrust shallowly at first, but as his moans grow louder – less restrained – you allow yourself to move tip-to-base, deep and dirty the way he used to like it. Seems he still does. The rim of his puffy asshole catches on the ridge of your cockhead and his nails rake down your shoulders and back, leaving stinging raised lines in their wake.
Pride fills your chest, inflates your ego. An infamous assassin, the Sorcerer Killer, spread wide and inviting with his cheeks all flushed – he's certainly given you a thousand little deaths. You grip the meat of his ass and lift his hips off the mattress, fucking into his wet heat at a new angle that has him shouting your name.
Maybe it's because you can see his face – see all the pretty cock-drunk expressions that wash over his features – that you find yourself chasing the precipice of release embarrassingly fast. He locks his legs around your waist, thick and muscular, and you want to laugh at the absurdity of it.
Why would you ever want to leave?
"Toji," you grunt, panting softly. "'M gonna..." Your breath fans against his sweat-slick skin, making him shiver and arch into your touch. He cups the back of your neck as you nibble and suck dark bruises into his tanned skin, his lashes fluttering as you shift his thighs on your lap and leave far too many deep red hickeys printed on his skin. You even scatter a few across his collarbones and chest, and you're only pleased when he looks like he was mauled by a bear.
He pants softly, his bitten moans making your cock throb even harder. Fuck, you're so hard – the shape of your teeth printed into his skin for all to see makes you prouder than you'd ever admit. You trace the marks gently with your fingertips and Toji's chest stutters.
Gazing up at you with lidded, unfocussed eyes, he laughs, freer than he had since you met him earlier. Your heavy cock plunges into his stretched hole, again and again and again like you're trying to make him take, and your grip on one of his thighs is tight enough to leave red crescents. He grasps your face, turning it down towards him, and offers a sleazy, roguish grin, breathless. His eyes trace the cut of your cheeks, the curve of your lips.
"You look less stupid than usual. S'all you're good for, ain't it? Fucking me nice an' deep with that fat cock of yours – f-fuck. S'mine, yeah? All mine?"
You shudder and groan, bone-deep, and Toji can feel the heavy throbbing of your cock leaking inside him. The slick feeling of you against his walls builds a hot ball of arousal in his lower belly. Your chest heaves against his and your stomach tenses, familiar planes of muscle firm against his hand. Excitement roars through him like a wildfire – eager and keening.
He yanks you down for a devouring kiss as you come, catapulting off the precipice into white bliss. You gasp into it. His ass clenches around you with his own release as he moans, his soft walls stroking you and sucking you in.
He's so fucking warm, so fucking wet. His body is slick with sweat and he shoves his tongue into your mouth like a man starved. Maybe he is. You groan, low and pleased, and his thighs tighten around you like a cage, possessive in his hungry, unyielding embrace.
Spilling into him is heaven. You've died and ascended, you're certain of it. He drinks you deep, as if he was made for it, and lets his head fall back against the pillows with a less-than-steady sigh as your balls tighten and pulse hotly against his skin. Dragging it out, you grind your hips into his ass in lazy circles, huffing and puffing against his throat as if you've run a marathon. Your fingers graze his own, fluttering in a way that seems almost... uncertain.
Hah. As if you knew what that word meant. You were unshakeable, infallible. The strongest. You'd hold onto that title for as long as you could; the burden was heavy.
Rather disappointingly, you don't choose to hold his hands. They glide down his waist and hips, making him shiver, and you slowly pull out, the solid but gentle grip on his thighs never wavering. You set him down as if he was made of glass and his body twitches as thick come leaks from his stretched hole, dripping and pooling white below his ass.
He tosses a lazy arm over his eyes, bending one knee and bracing against the bed. Another hot gush of come. "Ah, f-fuck... shit. You still come like a truck..."
Your gaze, once so dark and sultry as if you were about to eat him alive, now snaps to him, wide and kind and so embarrassed that Toji can't help but crack a grin.
"Sorry, sorry! I didn't hurt you, did I?"
He rolls his eyes. "Other than the hickeys, no. Wouldn'ta minded it anyway," he adds slyly, peering out from within the shadow of his arm. "Pretty hot when you get creative."
Shuffling off of the bed with a soft chuckle, you pick up the discarded condom and toss it in the bin. You pull open the wardrobe with a flex of a wall of muscles that Toji watches keenly, spreading his knees to eye you through them. His tongue darts out to wet his lower lip.
"Y'know, I was thinking," you begin suddenly, rifling through clothes and drawers.
"You can do that?"
"Shut up. I was thinking about you – your situation."
He closes his eyes and sinks back into your bed. "When'd you have the time? Not while you were fucking me, I hope."
"Just listen, Toji." You turn around, washcloth in one hand and a pile of clothes in the other. Dark, but loose and unremarkable – as he prefers it. You toss the clothes at the bottom of the bed and disappear into the adjoining bathroom, raising your voice as the faucet squeaks on. "I was wondering if you'd wanna... you know – catch up. Or at least let me help you."
You continue, "I could find you a place in a better school zone, get you set up legitimately. Honestly, actually, you wouldn't even need to work. You could just focus on your family and I'd take care of the rest."
Toji sits up, ignoring the pinch of pain and the mess between his legs. It'll ache later, so he'll deal with it later. "What?"
"I said—"
"Yeah, yeah, heard you the first time. But why?" He lowers his voice as you return to him and begin to clean him up. He meets your eyes and his mouth takes on the beginning slant of a smirk. "My ass that good, huh? You want me to be your sugar baby?"
Heat floods your cheeks. "You're not that hot, Toji. Don't get ahead of yourself."
"Wasn't talking about my face. Still – it's not like you to beg me to go on the straight and narrow. What's with that?"
"At the risk of sounding humiliatingly sappy after sex," you sigh, sitting back and dropping the cloth aside, "I still care about you. A whole fucking lot. I only want good things for you, Toji, and I have all this excess wealth that I can't donate fast enough, so if I can change just two more lives – I'd beg for the chance."
The desire to change lives without ending others'. He can understand the sentiment.
"What would you want from me?"
For a moment, you're taken aback by the tiredness in his voice. You blink. "Nothing? Like I said, the money would just vanish into a charity otherwise. Well – maybe I'd like to be invited over on the weekends, and maybe drop off-slash-pick up itty-bitty Megumi every so often. He's that age, right? Oh – and you gotta let me into the kitchen. I make a mean lasagne. Wonder if the boy would like it..."
He snorts. "That's a lot of conditions."
"Well, I am offering to let you live like a plump and happy housewife, so..."
He's quiet for a while, his hair falling over his eyes in a way that blocks your view of his face. You toss a rolled-up towel at his head, and he catches it without looking.
He lowers the towel. "You... don't seem to care that I left you."
"No, I didn't at all care that my friend dropped off the face of the earth without warning." You cross your arms and scoff, the smile slipping from your face. "I only heard about what happened months after you vanished, and by that time, there was nothing I could do to search for you. I had too many people looking at me to dig up old underground contacts and not enough time to comb through the country myself. You could have talked to me, you know," you say, your voice softening. "I would never turn you away."
He shrugs, noncommittal. "It's like you said – too many people looking at you. Would be alarming if I came strolling up to your door, wouldn't it?"
"You did today," you point out.
"Yeah, when there's a bounty on your head. I could be killing you right now."
You scoff, though the hint of a smile flickers across your lips. "You're impossible. But fair point. Just... think it over, okay? Come find me after all this bounty business is over and done with. You know where I live."
Toji chuckles softly, and he accepts your offered hand. You lead him to the large bathroom and he threads his towel over the rod next to what must be yours. He stares longer than he should, but the sight of the two towels beside each other – his green, yours blue – forms a lump in his throat that's hard to swallow around. His heartbeat quickens.
The sound of water hitting the tiles fills the bathroom. He raises his voice over it. "Hey."
Glancing over, your arm shimmering with water droplets from where it rests against the faucet handle, you tilt your head wordlessly.
"I should be picking up the kid in a couple of hours," he explains, "at six. As far as he and the childcare know, I work a normal nine-to-five like the rest of 'em. You could go."
Your eyes widen, and you let out an endeared laugh. "Toji, Megumi doesn't know who I am. The last time we met, he was a newborn. I'm not about to give everyone a heart attack by showing up on your behalf."
"It wouldn't be on my behalf, dumbass." His tone borders between disparaging and fond. "I'd go with you."
"Wh—?" Your throat bobs harshly. The shower seems forgotten, and Toji pushes you backwards into it with a palm on your chest because he's not about to waste the water. It pours onto your head, your hair beginning to stick to your face, and it still doesn't seem to register. A smile pulls at his lips as he reaches for your body wash, scanning the label while your brain putters out and short-circuits.
You didn't expect an answer that soon.
"You heard me," he says coolly, as if this is a normal Tuesday for him. He squirts a dab of body wash onto his palm. "Isn't this what you asked for? In my opinion, it's not that fun. I get a lot of women chattin' me up while we wait. Awkward as hell since I can't be rude or they might tell their kids, and then their kids won't like Megumi... ah, it's a big deal. You being there will help. You love to talk, so you can do it for me. Good game plan, right?"
"Toji, I..."
"The fact that I'm talking more than you worries me."
"You said pick-up's at six, right?" you say suddenly, the glint in your eyes intensifying.
He arches a brow, glancing up at you. "Yeah."
"That means we have an hour." You lean in, trapping him against the glass of the shower. There's a hint of mania in your gaze, starved with a vehement zeal. "I'm gonna fuck you, now."
His eyes widen. A feral grin spreads across his face. He laughs against your throat and moans when you press your thumb roughly into one of the many hickeys littering his neck and chest. "You're crazy. Fuckin' crazy – oi."
It's disturbingly easy for you to lift him by his thighs and press him against the cool glass. His skin prickles as he grips your shoulders and mutters, his breath mingling with yours: "If you drop me, I'll kill you."
"Promise?" you ask with a breathless grin.
He crushes his lips to yours. No one else gets the privilege of taking your little deaths.

I'm honestly so psyched to do this series, as it's one of my favorite tropes + relatively short as I'll be busy irl, but we'll do what we can!! i was lowkey feeling this concept when i was re-watching Ranma 1/2 and figured it would work great with Gojo. So, here's to hoping i can properly execute my thoughts with this series, hehehe~
reblogs + comments are appreciated wholeheartedly ❤︎ gif header made by me + fic dividers used are provided by the wonderful @cafekitsune and @animatedglittergraphics-n-more!!

Dating in a Dream - Epel Felmier
SUMMARY: What would his dream be like, exactly the same as in the original story, but with the small detail that he is dreaming that you two are dating?
CHARACTERS: Epel Felmier x Reader 🍎🦐
TAGS: Fluff; GN Reader; In a Relationship (kinda)
WARNING: Spoilers from Book 7 and Epel’s dream (Eng Server)
WORD COUNT: 1.530 words
COMMENTS: As English is not my first language I asked Gemini for help with Epel's dialect/accent. This was written as a companion piece to the original dream story, so the parts that are the same as the game are just summarized.
I hope you enjoy 🍎
Dating in a Dream: Idia / (Epel) / Rook / Vil / Kalim / Jamil / ...
“Aether signal tracking successful.” Ortho says when you land in the new dream, along with Grim, Silver and Sebek. “We have arrived at the designated coordinates.”
You're on Main Street, looking around and trying to figure out whose dream it is. That's when you hear abnormally heavy footsteps running and getting closer. You look and see an Epel's head in a body that looks more like Jack's, which made it all the more strange, uncanny, and almost hilarious.
You hear him saying something about being late and that's why he doesn't see your group. Grim was the one who had to shout to get Epel's attention.
“Ah, Grim! (Y/N)! Good morning! And behind you, Ah see... Ortho and some Diasomnia fellas Ah don't hardly know. Ah don't get why y'all're glowerin'.”
“Cease your incessant mumbling!” Sebek says.
“Huh? Ah was just... Ain't you Sebek from Class D? What's yer problem? Y'wanna start somethin' with me, huh?”
Epel approaches Sebek as if he were ready to start a fight, that's when you put yourself between the two of them to ask Epel to wait and say that there's no need for that.
“Oh, they’re yer friends? Sorry babe.”
“W-what did he call (Y/N)?” Grim asked with wide eyes, the same expression as everyone else.
“Hey, since you're here... Ah was goin’ to ma Spelldrive practice. Don't you have cheerleadin' practice too? You always practice with us.”
“C-cheerleading?” You ask.
“Yeah. You probly forgot ‘cause you're always so busy. If you're free, come with me. Ah always play better with you cheerin’ me on.” He smirks at you. “And Ah know how you love seein’ yer boyfriend win another game.”
“BOYFRIEND?!” Everyone said in unison.
“Oh boy.” Idia's voice says through the tablet. “Dude is dreaming that he's some sports team captain who's dating the head cheerleader. So cliché. What did I tell you about his imagination being weak?”
“Epel Felmier. May I make you a few questions?” Ortho asks and Epel agrees. “From what I understand, you and (Y/N) are dating, correct?”
“Ya bet we are!” Epel confirms with a huge smile. “Ain't they just as kind as can be, and as pretty as a picture?” He grabs you by the waist to pull you against him. “Shoot, Ah must be the luckiest guy aroun’!”
“Aww, so sweet.” Idia says. “If I get diabetes after this I'll be sending this guy the bill for my medication.”
“You two really make a very cute couple.” Ortho says to Epel. You didn't know if he was being sincere or sarcastic just to keep the conversation going. “When did you two start dating?”
“Lesse... When was it again? It was after I gained muscle and get this tall. And that was... Uhh... When WAS it? ... Hrk! Mah head... It hurts!”
The dream begins to distort, but when you think Epel is about to wake up, Vil and Rook appear, darkness versions of them.
“I believe it was near the end of winter break when your height surpassed mine, Eple.” Darkness Vil says.
“Oui. And you two started your love affair in the spring.” Darkness Rook complements. “Tellement romantique!”
“Really?” Idia complained again. “You start dating in the spring? How predictable. Were the birds also singing their hearts out when (Y/N) said 'Of course I want to date you, silly' ?”
“Epel.” Darkness Vil speaks again. “You left the dorm rather early today, so why are you standing around shooting the breeze?”
“Ah was on mah way to mornin’ practice when Ah ran into (Y/N) and these other folks...”
“Conversing with friends is indeed a valuable thing, but are you not the Spelldrive club most promising rookie?” Darkness Rook says. “I hear as much all the time from Leona.”
The two darkness figures with the appearance of Vil and Rook continue talking about how Eple is strong and such a talented player that the students of Savanaclaw would like him to ask to transfer to their dorm, but Vil would never allow it because he doesn't want to lose a student like Epel.
“That’s enough idle chitchat.” Darkness Vil says. “Off with you, now, get to your club.”
“Yessir. You coming with me (Y/N)?”
“NO!” You say. “This is not you Epel! You're not this tall, muscular guy. You are a boy with a cute and delicate appearance but a will of steel. We may have never started dating, but the truth is... I like you too Epel. I really do. But not this you, the real you. The Epel who said in SDC that he was going to maximize his weapon and beat Neige with his charm! Did you forget?”
“Epel. Cease listening to those spudlings.” Darkness Vil warns him.
“Yes, indeed. You will never go wrong by heeding Vil, Epel!” Darkness Rook encourages.
“You were finally accepting yourself.” You continue “Finally seeing yourself the way I see you. You were so cool! I was so proud of you!”
The dream world distorts again until Epel breaks and awakens. His body returned to normal, and he was wearing his dorm uniform.
“How could I have forgotten?” Epel says with tears in the corners of his eyes. “I was going to accept the strength only I had, a strength like that poison apple... I swore it that day!”
You feel so happy to see him return to the Epel you know that you can't contain the urge to hug him. He stays still for a second because of the surprise, but right after you feel him returning the hug with affection.
“Oh dear, Epel...” Darkness Vil says horrified. “You look so frail now.”
“Misérables! Your physique towered as high as the Seven jeweled Hills themselves. Where has it gone?”
“You poor thing. That dirty spud have cursed you with a pitiful form. You certainly deserve someone better than them. Come to me instead. I'll restore your brawny beauty.”
“Yes, Vil, that's a marvelous idea! Come, Epel. Join us.”
Epel is silent for a moment. To then tell them that the Rook and Vil he knows would never say those things. And that he would be lying if he said that he didn't wish he could be big and brawny.
“But the strength I want... The brawn I want... The beauty I want... The love I want... That's for ME to decide, and for ME to claim myself! And one more thing... You insult (Y/N) again, and me punchin' yer fake face'll be the least of yer worries, I guarantee it!”
Darkness Vil and Rook tried to convince Epel to choose the dream over reality, but this only angered him even more and made him and the others attack the darkness figures. Epel finishes the fight by using his signature spell on the fake Vil and Rook.
“Hey, Epel! You finally awake?” Grim asks.
“Yeah, my head's clear now. I must've looked like a real doof to you guys, huh?”
They chit chat a little about Epel showing how strong he is for being able to overcome the darkness. Until Grim speaks again to caught Epel's attention with a serious expression and crossed paws.
“Enough chit chat. Epel, I need to sort somethin’ out with you.” Epel looks at Grim puzzledly and Grim points at him with a cute, threatening finger. “What are your intentions with my hench-human?”
Epel practically jumps in place with a panicked expression and flushed cheeks. He opens his mouth to say something, or at least try, but he can barely say a word without stuttering.
“If you need, I can play the audios of what you said so you remember what you could explain first.” Ortho suggests with a look of someone who smiles mischievously.
“NO! REALLY DON’T DO IT!” Epel begs. “Can we just forget about that for now and focus on the real issue here? I don’t even know what's going on. What was up with the fake Vil and Rook? What’s happening?!”
They show the explanatory video to Epel, explain the plan and that he should go with them to the next dream as they would go to another Pomefiore student's dream. He agrees and Ortho creates a dummy version of tall and brawny Epel to stay in that dream so as not to alert Malleus.
“Eugh! Now that I'm looking at it again... How in tarnation did Ah ever think Ah looked cool?!”
“Indeed.” You say. “The real you is so much better.”
He looks at you surprised and flattered.
“R-really?... Huh... hey... sorry about... huh...”
“I like you too, Epel.” You admit.
“You... WHAT?!”
You tell him that the feeling is mutual and everything you like about him. You also talk about how you prefer the real him, rather than that... weird version of him.
“You know, I could cheer for you in a game or two if you want.” You tease him.
“I’m... not gonna lie, I would love that.” He smiles, cutely and excited. He then gains the courage to hug you and kiss you on the cheek.
“PDA Alert!” Idia's voice is heard through the table.
Epel immediately moves away from you, embarrassed for having done it in front of the others.

@lunariadew asked: 'Can you write a poly fic maby like a feel good fic or date night or something with all the boys! I’m greedy and I think there’s not enough poly fics as there should be'
I've wanted to do a fic with all the boys for SO long! (Infold, hire me to write a sitcom-style show for the guys, PLEASE) Have kept it platonic since it's early stages; it's open to interpretation about how many sparks are flying and between whom exactly..... 👀 But if ppl want more of this, I'm all over it. Platonic or romantic? I'll play it by ear!

“Rafayel… what do you think this is?”
The artist stands at your open door, wearing a self-assured smile and one of the flashier outfits you’ve seen him in, and that’s really saying something. Between you is a bouquet of lilies, petals curled like frozen licks of fire that compliment— deliberately, if you had to guess— the warmer fires within his eyes. Those eyes narrow at your question.
“What do you think it is?” he says suspiciously, lowering the flowers.
“…Game night?”
You’re not sure why you phrase it so tentatively. You know what it is; you’re the host. You open your door wider, stepping aside to give Rafayel a better view of the apartment behind you, and the remainder of his smile sinks.
“Hi,” Xavier calls out, and you don’t have to see him to know he’s giving a wholesome sort of wave.
“Hi…” Rafayel answers, barely more than a whisper as his eyes flit between everyone else in the room, because he’s the last to arrive. “Game night, yeah,” he nods assertively, “I knew that.” Then a deep breath: “Can I, like, put these somewhere—”
“Kitchen counter,” you gesture.
“Got it.” He doesn’t have to be told twice.
Closing the door behind him, you watch as he skirts past the lounge and makes for your kitchen, where another bouquet already lies waiting. He zeroes in on it. “Looks like mine’s not the only heart you’re breaking tonight, huh, cutie? What are these—” he pokes at a petal— “daturas?”
“They’re her favourite,” speaks a distinctly low voice.
Rafayel doesn’t look up. He plonks his bouquet on top of the other and winces: “They’re really not, though.”
“He’s right,” you chip in, giving Sylus a sheepish smile, and now Rafayel looks up, beaming.
“She likes roses,” Zayne says, with the calm confidence he’d quote a medical journal. On the sofa beside him, Xavier nods, and you grin at them both.
“Noted,” Sylus chuckles.
Rafayel’s less convinced. “Since when?!”
“Since forever, Raf. I like lilies too, so I didn’t say anything, ‘kay?” You beckon him back to the lounge, ignoring his splutters of disbelief. “C’mere, let me introduce you to everyone.”
The man slinks to your side like a reluctant shadow, and your hands find your hips. “This is Zayne. Xavier,” you point out, putting faces to names; Rafayel’s heard stories about each. Then you nod towards Sylus. “Over there’s Skye.”
From his place by the window, Sylus lifts a hand in greeting.
“So… yeah,” you finish. Oh, wait! “Guys, this is—”
“They know who I am,” Rafayel shrugs, his fame apparently heavy on his shoulders. He glances around the room for validation, but he gets none, so he tries again. “You do know who I am, right?”
“Sorry,” Xavier admits with an awkward smile, glancing back at Sylus: you?
The man has to think about it. You know for a fact he’s traded more than one of Rafayel’s paintings for a profit, but he smirks and gives an even more exaggerated shrug than the artist himself.
Really?
“You’re Rafayel,” Zayne states plainly.
“Yeah! See, I told you, cutie—”
“You slipped on a paintbrush and checked yourself into Akso, right? The nurses still talk about it.”
Rafayel’s enthusiasm drains. He looks conflicted as he mulls over the additional information. “In, like, a good way?” he hazards.
Zayne stares back at him, wielding silence like a scalpel before cutting deeper with a: “…sure.”
You bite back a smile. Leaving the two to discuss the finer details of Rafayel’s notoriety at the hospital, you wander over to the kitchen, where you fish out a vase from the back of a cupboard. You fill it, set it down on the counter, then reach for Sylus’s bouquet. There’s a black satin ribbon; you untie it.
“Are you sure this is a good idea, sweetie?” asks the man himself, joining you discreetly.
The others can’t really hear you— they’re still talking. “What,” you smirk, retrieving your scissors from a drawer, “you worried Xavier’s gonna arrest you?”
Sylus laughs lowly, quietly. “That’s adorable.”
“Good.” You pick up a flower and trim a leaf from the stem. “Because even if he wanted to—” you wave it, just short of his face— “I’d protect you, ok?”
He regards the flower beneath his nose. Smiles smugly. “These can be toxic, sweetie.”
“Really? Whoops.” You put it down, then snatch up a lily from Rafayel’s bouquet. “En Garde!”
“These too.”
“What the hell?”
The flame-red flower drops from your fingers, and Sylus laughs more sincerely. “Stick to roses, kitten. Or…” He moves his hand over his deconstructed bouquet, his Evol pruning the rest of the leaves from the stems. A tendril of it gathers the flowers, delivering them to him so he can hold them out to you with a flourish. “Live dangerously. Who am I to judge?”
You take them, then plop them into the vase. “Cute.”
“I’m here all week,” he grins. “You’d better wash your hands, hmm?”
With a hmph of agreement, you turn to the sink. You spend half a minute, rubbing soap and warm water over your hands, and when you turn back around— still drying them— something is different. The lilies are gone. Sylus is looking at you, innocuous.
“Real mature, Skye.”
He makes no effort to defend himself. You’re about to tell him that his magic better extend to making flowers reappear when your attention is whipped back to the lounge. The voices from that side have raised, so you lean forward on your kitchen island, watching their owners in a sort of stakeout.
“I take it you have a plan,” Sylus whispers, leaning with you.
You look at him. He looks back. “The plan is for hosts,” you scold, “not guests.” He’s much too close so you step away, reaching for the vase of daturas and holding them threateningly out, like you’re not afraid to use them. “Go back to the guests, deserter.”
Sylus lifts his hands in surrender, smirking in a way that says he knows he’s met his match. You shoo him further, back into enemy lines, then resume your stakeout. Xavier is sharing his own “embarrassing” medical story— talking about a time where he once passed out from exhaustion while fighting at your side, and you think it’s supposed to make Rafayel feel better.
It doesn’t, of course, and even Zayne is gazing down at the floor, self-conscious.
Sylus meets your eyes across the room, signals with a tip of his head: now's a good time for that master plan, sweetie.
Right. Your plan. Your master plan, yeah.
…
“You should have picked the doctor.”
Sylus’s words are near-silent: for you, not anyone else, and you pretend you don’t hear them. “But no,” he carries on, because he knows you can, “you just had to have the artist.”
“It’s Pictionary!” you snap, drawing all eyes in the room.
Lounging beside you, Sylus feigns an amused surprise, as though he hasn’t just been trying to elicit that exact reaction. On the other sofa, Zayne and Xavier stare, taken more genuinely aback. You give a smile of apology.
“Guys, concentrate!” Rafayel clicks his fingers at you. He’s stood in the centre of the space by a large drawing pad, and he goes back to frantically sketching on it. The drawing is… interesting. Abstract. Maybe even beautiful? But you don’t have a clue what it is.
“Thirty seconds,” warns Zayne, studying the little egg-timer he’s guarding.
You tilt your head at the drawing. There’s maybe a— wait, where did those extra colours come from? Where did he even get those pens? Anyway… there’s a circle. “A globe?” you guess. “Earth! No? Umm… oh! The sun! The moon!”
Rafayel shakes his head with every suggestion, adding even more intricate, unhelpful scribbles. Is that a fifth pen?! You nudge your other teammate, calling for back-up.
Sylus regards the drawing listlessly. “A unicorn.”
“What?!” Rafayel’s tone has reached a pitch that almost makes you wince. “No! C’mon, are you even trying?”
“No,” Sylus lilts with a pleasant smile, lifting the drink he’s been nursing to his lips.
You kick his foot. “A bowl of fruit!” you exclaim, determined to make up for the lack of enthusiasm. “A plate? A plate with food? Breakfast! Lunch! Dinner!”
“Time’s up,” Zayne interrupts, and it’s a mercy, really; you deflate with a sigh.
Rafayel puts his hands on his hips as he takes a step back to observe his work. He tucks four fine-liners back into his pocket— purses his lips as though he really can’t see a problem— and he’s keeping you all in suspense.
Sylus is up in an instant, stealing a card from where it’s been discarded on the coffee table. He reads the answer, then rolls his eyes. The original pen was also abandoned, so he plucks it up, then strides to the drawing pad.
He draws an oval. Then a triangle.
“A fish! A fish!” you cry out.
“You’re good at this, sweetie,” Sylus grins. He puts the lid on the pen with a click before dropping it into Rafayel’s hand.
“Is it my turn?” Xavier asks, trying to relieve the tension of the room. He gets up and smiles as Rafayel passes him the pen. “Your drawing is pretty. The composition is really—”
“Don’t,” Rafayel says. “Like, thanks? But don’t.”
“Fair enough,” Xavier chuckles.
You all prepare for the next round: Zayne handing you the egg-timer, Xavier re-organising the stack of prompt cards. Sylus takes a photo of the drawing pad before ambling back over— a moping Rafayel in tow— and they both sink down either side of you. You glance at the latter, giggling. “A fish, Raf? Really?”
“So I didn’t just wanna draw you some basic fish, ok?” The artist crosses his arms with a pout. “But fine, enjoy mediocrity, I guess.”
To your left, Sylus raises his glass in toast to the notion. There’s a noise: Xavier tearing the used page from the pad. You look up. “Xavier, can I have that?”
“Sure.” He brings it over to you.
You look at the drawing again, holding it at arm’s length and rotating it experimentally. You’re seeing a lot, but nothing that screams ‘fish’. There’s a circle, still. Oh! “It’s a fish bowl! Wait, wait, wait— is that Reddie?”
“Yeah!” Rafayel beams.
“Aww!”
The renewed team spirit drops off with Sylus; he’s on his phone, not paying attention. He seems to sense your scrutiny because he peers up, gives a ghost of a smile, then returns to whatever he’s doing. Meanwhile, Xavier is ready for his turn, so he signals for you to start the timer. You give him a thumbs up as you turn it over. “Go!”
He starts drawing.
“A car,” Zayne guesses after all of five seconds. Correct. Next. “A river? No. Oh. A snake.” Yes. “A cupcake?” Also yes. (In fairness, he was never going to struggle with that one.) “A person? Ok. Oh, a scientist, no? Ah, a doctor.” Yes again, and really— what?
Zayne continues to list correct answers, though thankfully, that’s the last of the coincidences. You watch on, vaguely in awe, until you feel your phone buzz in your pocket. You check it casually, aware that Sylus is next to you, looking down at it too.
It’s a text from him: The drawing… Can I have it?
You glance up at him subtly, meeting his eyes and giving a discreet yet firm shake of your head. He frowns. You’re not having this debate here, now, so you let your gaze return to the drawing pad while idly retrieving your drink.
A few seconds later, there’s another text: Found buyer
Then another: Quarter of a mil
You almost choke on that drink.
“Umm… cutie?” Rafayel asks, poking you. He points at the timer you’ve left on the coffee table, and the top half is empty.
“Shit, yeah. That’s time!” you call.
Xavier stops drawing. The small, crude sketches behind him have reached double digits. He looks really proud. “Great! How many was that?”
His eyes find you. Zayne and Rafayel’s, too. Were you supposed to be counting? Uh—
“Eleven,” says Sylus, and it’s way too smug to be a lie.
“Awesome!” Xavier flips the drawing pad over to where you’ve been tallying point totals. He adds eleven marks to one side. “That’s—” he counts both— “ah, thirty-three to nine.”
A silence falls over the room. Unsure of what else to do, you give a half-hearted round of applause and Xavier laughs awkwardly, still humble, despite it all. “I think we’re kinda done with Pictionary, yeah?” you suggest, rising from your seat. “I should probably get started on food, anyway.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that.”
The insistence came from Xavier, and you freeze suspiciously; he’s never turned down free food.
“You’ve already done so much,” he explains, “setting this all up for us. You should relax, really! Leave it to me.”
The word ‘relax’ is not synonymous with the image of Xavier anywhere near your kitchen, but he’s looking at you so earnestly, blue eyes brimming with warmth, and what are you supposed to say? No thanks, Xavier— I value my life? Everyone’s watching you. Gods help you. “That’s really sweet, Xavier. Thanks.”
Your fellow Hunter’s smile widens even more. He heads off to the kitchen, a spring to his step that makes your heart sink with dread. “Actually—” you glance at your ex-teammates— “could you two go help him? Zayne and I’ll tidy up over here.”
Rafayel and Sylus do as they’re asked, even though their expressions remind you that cooking is not, typically, a three-man job. It’s tactical, though. You wanted a moment alone with Zayne. “Are you ok?” you ask, once the others are out of earshot. “I know this must all be a lot. The guys can be, well… yeah.”
He knows what you mean, right?
Zayne has slipped away from the couch; he’s crouched on the floor, collecting a few prompt cards that have wandered astray. He glances up at you, pushing his glasses back on his nose. “I’m ok,” he assures with a fond smile. “Thank you, though.”
“You’re welcome.” He hands you the cards and you slot them back into their deck. Then you turn to the drawing pad. “You and Xavier make a good team, huh?”
The doctor straightens to his full height. “Mmm. It helped that we didn’t spend the entire game comparing the size of our… drawing abilities.”
You laugh unashamedly. The pen’s still at-hand, so you pick it up— reward another point.
Zayne chuckles.
“Food’s gonna be a while.”
You both turn, following the voice back to Sylus, who has apparently decided he’s had his fill of kitchen duty. What was that— a minute? He seems to have anticipated your dissatisfaction, because he’s brought a bribe with him: the box of chocolates that had come with his bouquet. It’s already open and he holds it out, tempting you.
He’s right— you don’t know when you’ll next be eating— so you select a heart-shaped chocolate, popping it into your mouth with a smile and a muffled: “thanks.”
Sylus smiles back. Then he holds the box out to Zayne. “Doctor?”
It takes a nod of encouragement from you to prompt Zayne into taking something. He chooses a white chocolate truffle, mumbles his own thanks, but Sylus doesn’t relent— not yet. He shakes the box slightly, incitingly, and he doesn’t move it away until Zayne takes two more.
Your physician shoots you a surreptitious smile as Sylus falls back onto the couch, content he’s won your hearts, and that he won’t be sent back to the kitchen anytime soon. His long fingers lift another chocolate from the box, and he meets your eyes as he slips it slowly past his lips, humming like he’s enjoying himself.
You cross your arms, unimpressed. He gives you the least convincing look of innocence you’ve ever seen.
There’s an exclamation from the kitchen: “Hey, where did my flowers go!?”
Shit. You hastily push the drawing pad aside then scurry over to assist Rafayel. You don’t have a plan, exactly; it’s not like you can help him look for them. “Umm… they’re around, Raf. I moved them somewhere safer, that’s all.”
“Where?”
“Uh—”
“Does it matter?” Sylus speaks from behind you, because he and Zayne are close at your heels. “She said they’re somewhere safe.” He leans on the kitchen island. “Don’t you trust her?”
Rafayel scoffs. “I trust her plenty.”
“So prove it. Drop it.”
“Skye,” you caution, “stop.”
Sylus does stop, but not because you asked. He’s done enough already, hasn’t he? Rafayel is bristling with indignance— a lit fuse— and behind him, Xavier sneakily checks the trash can, looking relieved at what he doesn’t find. He gives you a subtle glance: Where actually are the flowers?
You lift a shoulder an inch: Beats me!
There’s a soft, almost imperceptible crackle, and it draws your eyes to the vase of daturas between you all. They’ve caught light— their petals twisting, darkening, within larger flowers of fire.
“Rafayel!” you gasp. “No, no, no, the fire alarm!”
The torched flowers are encased, all of a sudden, in a fine layer of shimmering frost. Sylus blinks down at them, unmoved by their destruction. Zayne’s hand is still outstretched, snowflakes etched over his palm. Then something… odd happens. The ice doesn’t stop. It spreads over the rest of the kitchen island, to all of your bewilderment.
“Zayne?” Your voice is fraught with worry, but you don’t give a damn about your kitchen.
The man winces, and you so rarely see him out of control. The silver-white patterns have crawled up his wrist, and the ice continues to spread; even Sylus steps back. Sharp, jagged crystals start to form— inching out towards everyone.
“Zayne!” you try again.
His chest rises as he drags air through his teeth; it looks like it hurts, but the ice does stop. The others are still, suspended by momentary uncertainty, and you rush to Zayne’s side, taking his hand.
“What the hell was that?” Rafayel remarks, shaking away his surprise and thawing an icicle that’s way too close for comfort.
“He wouldn’t have needed to use his Evol if you hadn’t used yours.”
It’s Xavier, strangely— you would have expected Sylus. The Hunter’s tone is gentle as always, but there’s something behind it, this time: a frustration that lends an edge.
Rafayel hears it too. “Hey, I’m not the one who started this!” He points to Sylus. “He—”
“Has been lighting fires all evening,” Xavier finishes. “But at least his were only figurative.”
Sylus laughs, and it’s the kind of laugh where you just know he’s vying to make things worse. “Look at that,” he says, “the boy next door can bite.”
Xavier’s eyes sharpen. Beside you, Zayne slips his hand from yours. It’s an instinct you know well. This moment is volatile, and you have to be ready. It could go a dozen different ways; it’s just waiting for a spark.
“Guys,” you manage to get out, “please, just… everyone, take a breath, ok? Everything’s fine, we just have to—”
A spark.
There’s smoke. Actual smoke. “Xavier, behind you!” Zayne alerts.
It’s creeping out of the oven and Xavier turns— eyes wide— to open its door before any of you can stop him. Thicker smoke billows out, filling the air, and you all scramble away from it. The fire alarm triggers. You think Rafayel’s shouting something, but you can’t really hear him. Then Sylus is shouting. Maybe even Zayne. The alarm is piercing your ears and making you dizzy— or is it the smoke?
You feel a hand on your shoulder and suddenly everything changes.
There’s cool air, brushing over your skin, and it’s dark; you’re outside the building. You can still hear the alarm, shrill but further away, and your window is easy to spot: there’s a red light flashing behind it. Sylus leans into your vision, saying your name.
“Stay here,” he tells you, “alright?”
He’s gone in another moment, lost to a flicker of crimson-black darkness.
Gods, you’re so stupid.
…
You sit on a short wall outside of your building, and the street is full of people. You recognise most of them: neighbours. Every single one is mad at you. You’re all waiting for the alarm to cut out— for the all-clear to be given. The fire wasn’t that serious in the end, but there’s still a procedure. You would know; this isn’t exactly your first evacuation.
The guys are safe, which is good, because it means you can kill them later. They’ve all gotten lost in the throng, and your neighbours can keep them. Maybe they’ll kill them for you.
“Hey, cutie.”
You were staring down at your feet, but you look up at Rafayel’s voice. He’s coming towards you, evoking a sense of déjà vu, because he’s clutching a bouquet of flame lilies. That’s… the bouquet of flame lilies. How?
“Skye gave ‘em back to me,” he explains, chuckling at your expression, and he’s close enough now to hold the flowers out to you. “I don’t know where he was keeping them. His Evol’s weird, huh?”
“Yeah,” you say timidly, taking the bouquet and gazing down into the petals; they still smell sweet.
Rafayel sits next to you, shuffling close, and he leans his head on your shoulder with a tired sigh. You want to be mad at him. You really, really do— but you’re suddenly not.
“I’m sorry, Rafayel.” The admission barely makes it out of your throat.
You feel his head lift. “You’re sorry?”
“I know it was just a misunderstanding,” you speak into the flowers, “but tonight… wasn’t what you were expecting, I get it. I mean, I kinda threw you into the deep end with all this. You didn’t know you were gonna be around other people, and I—”
“Whoa— cut that out, yeah? You’re killing me, cutie. I spend the whole evening causing trouble, and you’re gonna take all the blame? Nope. Not happening. It was a collaborative effort at least, ok?”
You giggle. “Ok.”
“Good.” His head slumps back down on your shoulder, and yours tilts to rest against it. “Thanks, though. Really,” he whispers, so quiet you almost don’t notice.
Footsteps and familiar voices draw you from the intimacy of the moment. The others are wandering back to you, having finally escaped the veritable mob of your neighbours. They all look tired.
Xavier settles down on the other side of you, and Zayne sits beside him. Sylus takes a seat next to Rafayel with a huff, but he’s not half as unhappy as he’s pretending to be.
All of you sit in silence, gazes flitting between your window— where there are still glimpses of moving figures— and everyone else who’s been evacuated. For the first time all evening, the quiet isn’t tense. It’s peaceful. Easy.
“We’ll do better next time,” Zayne speaks softly.
Next time? You scoff. “Do any of you actually want there to be a next time?”
“I had fun,” Sylus chuckles. He’s taken his coin from his pocket, and he flips it, amusing himself.
“I had fun too,” Xavier grins.
“Cooking again, Xavier?” quips one of your neighbours, as they happen to pass by.
The man beside you laughs, but you can tell it’s forced. Your hand finds his; you give it a little squeeze, letting him know that it wasn’t his fault. His heart was in the right place. It’s always in the right place.
You nudge Rafayel away from you so you can sit up straighter, your free hand rubbing your arm, caressing prickled skin. You’re about to ask for a jacket when something heavy drapes over your shoulders. It’s a coat— still warm— and its owner is stood behind you; you didn’t even notice him get up.
“Thanks, Sylus,” you smile.
All eyes turn to you. What are they—?
Oh.
